“How is this false advertizing when they NEVER said exotic was going to be the last tier of equipment? They just said this wasn’t going to be a vertical progression game in terms of gear. But as I’ve previously stated there is ALREADY a progression table in place. Up until now exotic has just been the top.”

How is adding tiers to the game NOT vertical progression? I love how stupid this argument is, since you are completely wrong.

‘The new stuff ISN’T better, get over it!’

Ascended > Exotic. Done, proven better. Stop arguing.

‘They DIDN’T add vertical progression, they just added a new tier!’

So in other words you bought a first person shooter expecting to command men and build structures. Wonderful.

“To this I just have to laugh. You’re playing a game at 3 months in and expect to NEVER get new equipment?”

Yes. What are you, dense or something? This is exactly what we expected. New gear (toughness, con, heal power) maybe, but not stronger. We have 7 years of this, and 3 years of promises, backing up that we thought this would happen.

What did YOU expect when you joined the game?

This reminds me more and more of the JP story point and click game that came out 1-2 years ago. People were complaining left and right that the game that advertised it’s self as a “point and click story adventure” wasn’t a good enough first person shooter.

What the hell people?

1’000 thoughness (full defense) gives your 50% damage reduction.

This makes it good for dungeons.

“By that logic anything up until now that wasn’t an Exotic tier item has been considered an obsolete item? "

Yes. Yes it is. Seriously? Look at rares : 15 silver a piece. Look at exotics, 1+ gold for most of them (usually, the minimum craft cost + a %). . .

Yellows cost more then 15 silver to make, yet sell for 15 silver. WHY? Simple, that’s the price ectos are at. Hence, obsolete. People go drops → maybe yellows → exotics and never look at yellows again. (I went blues/greens to exotics personally)

"

and how do you know they will be 50-100 worse grindfest?"

You have to do 3 dungeon paths (the equivalent time to 1.5 AC paths) to get a boss that has a chance at an ascended item. You also have tiers of ascended items (high end ascended items are slotted, as per ANet). This puts them “in between legendaries and exotics”, as per ANet. Hence, 50x harder then exotics.

“It seems to me that people fear power creep because they’re afraid they might not be able to get those items while others are. I’ll tell you something about these supposed ‘others’: in a game where there’s nothing to do, they don’t exist. Even in my own guild people are pretty much only online when we agree to do a dungeon to give ourselves the illusion we’re still playing this game. It’s dead otherwise. What’s wrong with giving people an incentive to keep playing? Because I promise you that your single item-level gear utopia is going to be a very deserted one.”

Sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of how populated first person shooters are.

They never get item improvements.

Also, you forgot one thing : The single item level gear utopia will be deserted of one : You.

“Well, even with that in mind, it still seems like people are hugely blowing this out of proportion. As I said in my last reply, I was able to keep up with people in exotics when I was running around in masterwork/rare gear with no problems whatsoever so I really don’t expect this whole Ascended thing to have this immensely dramatic game altering effect that everyone is bugging out about.”

Agony is said to stack up until you can’t continue. So you cna do agony to wave 6, wave 7 become 13% every second of your HP, boom, can’t do it no more. Kicked.

Ok, I’m busy now, let’s take a break/work on an alt. All your alts are 80 now, new content, agony starts at 26% HP every second. No one wants to do anything under level 10 agony (42% HP a second) since they all have green or gold infusion – so they don’t allow you in and get the purple infusion which let’s them to do level 12 (51% HP a second). . . Now you’re left behind, and less and less people are doing those lower level runs.

This is what people fear. Also, it seems to be fairly universal that people hate this. I say fairly, because some lovers are out there, but they are a lot rarer (there’s about 90% more indifferent/hates then there are lovers it seems).

“Quoting you mainly for the link and in regards to people spazzing out about being forced into a gear treadmill. People are seriously losing their minds over this barely even worth mentioning improvement? I must be missing something because looking at that picture of the Ascended beside the Exotic, I can’t comprehend what’s up with all this GW2 doomsday talk. For that specific example shown, you gain 5 additional Power/Precision and 3% more Magic Find… and that’s considered a gear treadmill? Excuse me while I LMFAO at this. I remember playing an Assassin in Aion (pre-everyone gets a stunbreaker) and barely even having blues but still wrecking people with yellows. Same goes for GW2, having a bunch of cheap masterwork/rares didn’t stop me from strutting my stuff all over WvW and dungeons.”

People are affraid (and rightely so) that this will become a gear threadmill. First, the stat is MF – if it’s another thing, say power, of thoughness, it’ll be a lot more. Second, if it was crit chance, that’s a total of what? Around 30-40% crit damage for an entire set? That’s a pretty huge DPS difference.

2, the stat also include infusion. You want to do fractals? Get infusion. Do fractals to get infusion. But to use infusion, you need ascended armour. Do fractals for ascended armour. Then the next dungeon comes out that needs infusion, did you get good infusion from fractals? No? Go do fractals until you have enough infusion since this dungeon is 40% harder. Done fractals and the new dungeon? New new dungeon. 80% harder then fractals, go do fractals to do the new dungeon to get enough infusion to do the new new dungeon. . .

That’s what people are scared of.

I love how people state there was a gap from exos to legendaries. . . Named exotics were that gap. Essence of the Forefire is a fraction the cost of a real Legendary (100~ gold in mats IIRC), down to stuff like Bravery (5~ gold in mats IIRC). Then you have something like Infinite Light which is 650~ gold (yes. 1’500 ori ingots + 250 charged cores >.<) which is MORE expensive then some of the lesser legendaries.

Will named exotics get a stat increase TOO? It’ll be pretty stupid if Infinite Light doesn’t, but Quip does.

“Of course, without actually asking at least a decent percentage of players whether they like the idea or not you will never know what the real picture is.”

I’ll say this right now, from what I noticed the game is a lot more dead right now.

In JQ we normally have 15-20 people looking for AC, yesterday we had 3.

I also trade on the TP, up to 3~ days ago I had been trading mass volumes (3’000+ units daily) and they were selling out pretty fast. That lasted for about 3 weeks.

I have been trading the same items, yet while that i put 3’000 units up, in the same time they normally sold out I’ve only been seeling 1’000~ and restocking it. My buy orders have been coming in slower too. All this started about the time Ascended armour was announced (my buying declined much slower, peaking yesterday at about 40-50~% regular, my selling declined close to 20% daily over the last few days, arriving at today’s 30-40~% regular).

This is all anectodatol, but considering when I log on all I see is sad faces in chat over the new gear, the TP is dying and less people seem to be playing active dungeons – either one of two things is true – A: People are readying for the content patch (because NOT gaming is how people prepare for new content, right? . . . RIGHT?) B: Less people are playing and more people are upset over this.

" It’s a true challenge, but as you hit higher and higher scales, the dungeon will get more and more rewarding. You’ll have to have some serious skills and solid tactics to make it through these Fractals. After a certain point, our new Ascended items and Infusions become crucial tools for survival"

“Ascended gear works a little bit differently than other gear types. The stats and functionality normally added to gear through upgrade components are actually built into Ascended items. Instead of upgrade slots, Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them. Players will be able to acquire Ascended Rings in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon, and Ascended items worn on the back can be acquired through special Mystic Forge recipes.”

Make Ascended armour MF only. This gives everyone what they want : MF is an annoying stat people want out of the main part of the game (eg. dungeons) and people do not want better gear to be Ascended.

If you WvW with MF gear you’re weird.
If you dungeon with MF gear you’re not doing well.
If you farm with MF gear you’re doing ok – and fractals was added specifically for farming.

“As for the whole agony mechanic.. well, heck. I’m going to trust the GW1 vets who said this ‘Mursaat’ mechanic was no big deal way back when. I’ll take a wait-and-see attitude.”

I played GW1 from BWE 4 or 5.

Mursaat “Spectral Agony” works like this. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spectral_Agony

To put it into pespective for this, picture taking around 2-3K damage a second with 800 / tick degen with 15 second with chill and crippled (if they stacked) put on you at once, while getting beat on by the general mobs from a dungeon. This is something you can’t take off.

You got infused (currently, 1 infusion does 5 pieces of armour, back then, 1 infusion did 1 piece of armour). Infusion reduced the damage from spectral agony by a lot, close to 20% per infusion. In the end, it would hit about the same to 50 damage per second and 25 tick degen and about 2-5%~ speed slow.

It worked well since there was no new tier. We’re concerned because this is step 1 in new tiers.

60$ well spent.

Actually. Raids wouldn’t work in GW2.

Want proof? Warriors, eles, guardians would rule them. Reasoning? They have the highest amount of group support while doing good damage.

Warriors have shouts (which can heal) + heavy armour, and their weapon sets lend well to large groups (good AoE etc)

Eles have good regen, kiting and good AoE.

Guardians have good healing + heavy armour + AoE.

People would rarely carry thieves, might carry mesmers, and would rarely carry rangers. Haven’t played necro enough to comment.

I’m all for bigger group content, but there’s a certain point in GW2 where you reach a “critical mass” of bodies and nothing can really kill.

Allright, so basically, reskinning gear is now completely kitten since I’ll have to re-reskin it every 3 months. Thanks for that.

Also, running up gear is now nearly “a waste” unless I constantly buy black lion salvage kits since the runes will need to be switched armours (or i’ll need to reskin my lower gear onto higher gear to keep the rune, but I’d make more money salvaging it for ectoplasm). . .

You might be right, then again, you might also be wrong. I’ll probably stick around this update, but I’ve already started spending more time away and less time careing for this game since the looming threat of it dying on the 16th zapped all my will to play, and started looking for another, better, more promising MMO then one that lies to me. I’m pretty sure most peopel will slowly start leaving past the 16th if what we think will happen will happen.

On a side note : You statement that legendaries should be above exotics is moronic. ANet stated they wouldn’t be, thusly, either you mislead your self or were mislead.

I love how everyone who wants new “item progression” is basically saying this.

‘I am way too nooby to learn new content so please give me a way to do the same thing over and over again until I’m strong enough to beat it by stats!’

“What it “seems” like it is, is the people who have played GW1 and are now playing GW2 really don’t like the idea of change. They want GW2 to be the exact same thing as GW1. But ArenaNet has listened to the community and is putting this change for the better of the game and the players.”

We don’t want GW2 to be exactly the same as GW1. We have GW1 for that. We simply don’t want GW2 to be “generic fantasy MMO # 553”, as we have generic fantasy MMO 1 through 552 for that. We also want GW2 to be better then GW1. GW2 found fun ways to keep us happy and busy for 7 YEARS. GW2 ran out of ideas after 3 MONTHS. Ascended armour is not ANet listening to the community and doing something good – it’s ANet saying they are giving up and doing the least amount of work possible to keep the people happy.

It’s kind of like walking into a fancy restaurant, ordering something that sounds fancy and good, and getting a big mac +. Sure, it’s better then a bigmac, but you came here to get away from Mc Donalds.

“You people sit there and spout off how much this will destroy Guild Wars 2 or how the community will act like elitist jerks. But you really don’t have a clue! Maybe try waiting and see what happens first for you start making accusations?”

I don’t need to sit here and wait for something I was promised wouldn’t happen would happen. If I bought a program on my satellite to watch with my kids that was rated G, and half way through they starterd showing decapitations, blood and guts – I’d normally like that, but I was specifically told it would NOT be in this, so why is this HERE.

I’m still 2.5 weeks and waiting for an ackowledgment (which i expect to be told “sorry for your bug but we have no way of tracking what you are doing” followed 4 seconds later by “do not break the rules we are tracking what you’re doing”) to a bug report I sent back on a missing gem store item.

You have an amazing player survey in-game. Use it

“Well how are they getting this feedback? It can’t just be monitoring forums, can it?”

Considering the absurd lack of response, I would assume no.

“What would people set thier sights on to achieving next?”

100% completion alts dyes looking good guild halls (which they should dedicate more time to – Star Base construction lead to 5+ months of grinding from close to all fleets in STO) spvp wvw if they made it have more impact titles rare drops multiple legendaries etc etc etc.

“Actually, mathematically, crit. dmg% modifier is the weakest modifier in terms of dps (not talking about spike dmg).”

It is, but in the builds it’s used it’s very powerful. Increasing it more will make it “maybe ok” where it wasn’t used and stupidly OP were it was.

In my view, legendaries arent worth it.

“If you can’t understand why companies go F2P today, then you must not be aware that online gold sales for gaming in MMORPG’s is a multi-million dollar industry.

Why would a company waste time with a subscription based model when they can potentially earn millions more from a cash shop?"

You do realize that 90~% of those sales are for cosmetic or convenience items, right? Except for the Asian-esque styles MMOs who rely close-to-completely on selling you key upgrades to get better gear. Guess what – everyone who wants that can go there!

What you don’t understand is converting a water purifying plant into a metal refinery is absolutely kitten if you’re the leader in water purifying and aren’t setup to refine metal.

The reason 90% of companies go F2P is since micro transcations make up a good portion of their sales since people don’t mind farming more if the game is free. Why does WoW still have a subscription?

“Also, the argument about being handicapped based on gear is moot, because if that was the case, then a Level 1 character would have a leg to stand on when fighting Level 80’s in full Exotic gear in WvW.”

The only reason that doesn’t happen is because people can’t form parties in WvW. People are already complaining over the fact WvW will be more unbalanced, but the fear is where you -can- get kicked, which is PvE.

If people COULD kick ban you from WvW for an hour and inspect you, WHOAH BOY would it happen a lot.

In my view, legendaries arent worth it.

“Todays gaming genre want more then just to look cool, looking cool and participating in the same old content over and over again for months on end does not keep people playing or paying money in the cash shop. Content and character progression does. It is a proven buisness platform that certain companies have been monopolizing and taking advantage of now for the best part of a decade and after Anet spent out 150+ million dollars creating this title, do you really think they are going to just run with the hopes that people will stay and play based on skins?”

What in the blooming kitten hells are you talking about?

Fighting games, FPS, RTS, every-gaming-genre-that-is-not-a-freaking-RPG all are begging solely for more customization and the ability to barbie up their games.

People in MMORPGs for the most part want new content and (for some reason I will never understand) bigger numbers (I again point out a change from numbers to percentages would kill every MMO in existance right now). Look at what most people want – more options to have fun. That was page after page after page after page. Horse, houses, bigger sieges, owning towns.

Look at the part of the community that’s dying – TOR is going F2P, how many gear grind MMOs have closed, how many are fringed and nearly dead and relying on the few super expensive items to keep going? Adding ever increasing stat grinds make a % of the community happy, a % of the community angry and scares off most newcomers. The issue is GW2 is setup in a way that it doesn’t need or benefit from new tiers. Adding new tiers makes a lot of people want to quit – hardcores and non hardcore – and won’t add a lot of newcomers who are either already playing and will think of quiting or already farming in another MMO that gives them the gear grind they really want.

“maybe change TAB function to “nearest enemy” instead of “next enemy” in settings?”

In GW1, tab was target next, ctrl was target nearest. I didn’t check the options enough to realize if it works like this now.

As a regular of both PvE and WvW I must say Ascended is bad in both. Don’t ask to ban it from one, ban it universally.

“Other players will not refuse to group with you just because you don’t have a specific skin.”

Actually, they will. If you reskinned your ascended armour they’ll kick you for not having it. If you ping it, I assume it’ll be good until people start posting max tiered ascended/infused armour on forums that people can spoof pinging with. Then you’ll be kicked for not having “ascended looking” ascended armour.

Eliteists are a weird bunch.

You should just get a “this item is not high enough level to gather this” text when you try to use it. I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to switch to ori for a ori node in CS.
