I don’t feel the ele was so overpowered that would warrant this change, e.g. having to choose between those two traits. I was actively using both the same time and it gives a dynamic and versatile gameplay, but is by no means overpowered.
To be honest, I’m getting a bit demotivated to play, after seeing anet systematically going through things that I love in the game, and burying them with whatever fancy reason.
+1, definitely worth anet’s attention to read.
Guess not everyone loves the idea that the game gets redesigned every now and then. Lots of people like stable things.
Yes please. I’d love to see this to help build diversity and flexibility.
Yup, mine included.
I think they’re dumbing down the trait system, honestly, and selfishly so while selling it as an “improvement”.
Have to agree, sadly.
Feels like a few more changes and we’ll get a diablo3-like totally dumbed down skill system.
For me, WvW is kind of an end-game. Playing almost nothing else in the past year.
Not really excited. I liked the “player experience” an the trait system as it was at the launch of the game. I don’t really understand why to re-work it all the time – anet says “easier” and “better” but I rather see it as dumber and dumber, more and more restrictive.
For me the game went downhill like one year ago.. with the past two “feature packs”
- NPE
- Trait system
- Megaserver
Again. Aurora Glade in EB, I have horrible skill lag, sometimes with high ping, sometimes with normal ping. No blob nearby though (nowhere as far as I know).
Aurora glade server – huge lags on Miller’s Sound BL now.
Ping jumps between 50 and 3500.
(edited by Gaab.4257)
Great to see someone actually looking at the problem and confirming it. On a weekend!
Thank you.
Well if massive amounts of players start to experience lag at approximately the same time, after the same patch, I think we can safely assume that the issue is not on the client side but rather related to something on the game servers. I don’t believe all these people managed to magically mess up their drivers or their computer the same time. I’m really missing a fourth section on that “how to address” page: “How to detect if the issue is on the server side and how to report that instead of disabling random background services on my computer without knowing what the ….. I’m disabling”.
Or you can buy it in the gem store. This month, only 1800 gems
All-time worst ping last night, 2400. Only near enemy and during fight. No fps or network problem. Pretty please fix this before ppl decide to play solitaire instead. Even that’s more interesting than waiting for skills to finally pop.
Yeah lag still going on, yesterday my ping jumped from 40 to 1400 when enemy zerg approached in wvw. When spawning, before getting to the enemy, everything was fine.. as soon as I was near enemy, skill lag and rubberbanding started [EU, Aurora Glade]
Same – after long time, I decided to build a new character, and this “NPE” and the new “trait system” just destroyed the joy of playing and leveling up for me
I really really dont want more pve in wvw.
Could not agree more.
if they wanted to balance the stability they had only to remove the stack duration
That makes zero difference to balance, if you rotate stability you would still have the same uptime.
…which uptime was nowhere near 100% and was strippable anyway.
If we removed every feature, skill or mechanism that annoys someone in the game, I think we’ll end up with a nice version of solitaire where nowhere can damage the others.
Guess we should also remove stealth from the game because mesmers and thieves annoy people by being invisible, remove stun because it does not allow some people to use their skills, then conditions as well because condi builds are also annoying.. I also read threads about ‘lets remove burst damage’.
What I don’t understand is when ppl say the stability issue is really L2P issue, is which side that L2P is on, really If I can’t figure out how to beat something, let’s get it removed so the other side should have the problem, not me…
Same here, WvW is the main reason I still play the game. Not really interested in PvE or PvP at all – this is kind of an end-game for me.
With the amount of people playing in the lower tiers that would result in 6 deserted maps.
Wonder which of the “stale” systems will be more enjoyable. This new one so far looks pretty boring…
Also I don’t necessarily agree ruining gameplay just to introduce a new profession x months later.
Stability was never a “press to win” button.
Regarding anet videos.. yeah that looks nice on a video, just might not be too much fun in-game after 3 minutes…
Concern B: WvW players don’t like mechanics that get in the way of actually fighting the enemy.
This isn’t a map for WvW players. We’re too few and don’t make A.net enough money to be cared about. This is a map to give PvE’rs more to do. Most of the people kittening over these gimpy mechanics are PvE’rs. That’s why you see posts from people who admit they don’t play WvW but this will get them too.
What “PvE” are you talking about?
All of the Events on the new Map sound like PvP-Events to me.
What do you guys want? An empty flat Area for big Zergs bumping into each other?
I guess, many people (including me) consider WvW as “worlds vs worlds” and not “worlds vs environment and random creatures and turrets and whatever else is there”.
To cut a long story short, I played GW since shortly after its release and met my missus there shortly after that. After meeting her in the game, I met her and her daughter in real life and have been together since. Anyway, a few days ago, we had our forth child together.
So now thanks to GW, we are a family of seven. Me, the missus and our five girls. THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN GUILD WARS! (And obviously GW2)
We also had/have an amazing time playing with the GW/GW2 communities. THANKYOU GUYS! Best gaming communities ever!
Congrats, nice to hear such story
Feels like this argument is between casual/roaming vs those in organized zergbusting guilds.
First group – change is great, you guys just need to L2P
Second group – change is awful, destroying our fun
I hate changes that are creating unnecessary arguments between players.
The problem is not that we r unable to adapt to a new meta.
We can of course use a new race/build/stats what so ever. The problem is that it is NO FUN when 2 Zergs fire at each other with ranged weapons.
Ranged fights, there will be no winner.
And u can rezz u r teammate easy and there will be no loot bags for all. What good is wvw when it s boring and the small loot will get even smaller?
Tend to agree.. pl will of course adjust.. but will it be the same level of fun in gameplay? That I’m not sure about.
Yes please, this would be awesome.
Don’t agree stability was overpowered, there were means to strip/counter it. Anyhow, with these changes some CC parameters should change, like adjusting max targets of some CC skills to 5, to balance things out again.
Anyway, saying L2P is I think the lazy way for saying “I don’t care about what you think/feel”. Of course, any changes can be accomodated, and they surely will be, but I think as of now, it changed the way how fights are being done, and not necessarily to better direction. At least I prefer the dynamic close combat rather than the pirate meta, circling around each other until someone gets bored, pushes and die on the CC sea.
why it makes sense? maybe because your server has smaller numbers and you are matched against a bigger server and you still want to play and enjoy game like they do?
the problem with courtyard is they are equal numbers for some of us guilds who enjoy running 20 or below and fight against 30+ zergs or more its impossible for us now to do anything
Tough life. Change your strategy, and I assure you you will still win in the future.
Winning is one thing, but maybe not all.
Enjoying playing is more important I guess (for me at least).
So, standing in front of the other zerg and throwing AoE. Very dynamic, much adrenaline.
On the other hand you had a zerg that just went through every possible AoE you can throw at them and they didnt even blink. Is that so much better?
No, it did not go through all possible AoE. Boon stripping was always a working and actively used technique and stability was not making you a god. You made a mistake and your group was quite possibly going down soon. You still had to deal with CC just you were still able to pick up the fight against the odds. It was letting smaller groups able to deal with bigger enemy forces while still give a good, active, dynamic gameplay that was actually enjoyable.
So, standing in front of the other zerg and throwing AoE. Very dynamic, much adrenaline.
dunno how it will pan out. however from what i heard and played myself, there is one big reason why people keep playing wvw or even gw2 nowadays:
the most dynamic, intense (group) combat experience in any group/mmo pvp currently available.
My experience with alot of games is, that range fighing is the norm, everyone stands at safe range, casts aoe and single target dps on the other side….and frankly, in my opinion thats boring.
On of the greatest things in gw2 combat was that it was viable!! to engage in melee combat (which is almost extinct in pvp games where range is an option), being really in there, fighting foot and nail instead of yawning and semi afk stand afar.
In my humble opinion it would really water down the experience if it will become just another range vs range combat system, because as everywhere, melee is just not worth the risk anymore
This, pretty much this.
Many of us enjoyed this game mode because of the adrenaline filled, quick paced heavy action experience, very dynamic, and fun.
Of course, others enjoy other aspects of the game, no surprise here. Some may say that unskilled hammer train zerg players are complaining that they will now need brain, but this is not really the case.
Did stability make you invincible? No. It was countered quite effectively, one mistake and your whole team possibly wiped.
Did this change make the game better? For some, but for others it will ruin the experience. Many of us quite enjoyed the fact that we could successfully fight with enemy forces that were bigger, and not just from the distance. It gave that “300” feeling while picking up fights with the enemy zoneblob, as my server frequently faces bigger forces.
Will this make gameplay more diverse? Guess no, people will ditch guardians and add necros, and have a standstill war from a distance. I don’t think this will make the game experience a lot better.
Will this help weaker servers to have enjoyable fights and still have chances with the enemy? Not really sure about that. Maybe, if they go back and defend from the towers without really playing on the field.
Will people adapt? Of course. Although they might not have the same fun and possibly just say “kitten it” and stop playing. This might mean different faces will play WvW instead, possibly more PvE players will come and play especially with the new PvE WvW maps. But whoever currently enjoys WvW will possibly get bored and just leave the game.
Just my $0.02. Of course, you may say I’m pessimistic and have L2P problems – I just explained how I feel about this change, none needs to agree me

In Short: Dislike
Feels like more PvE added to WvW. I don’t go into WvW for timed PvE event, for jumping puzzles, whatnot. I go there for large scale, open field battles. Not for more ridiculous choke points and EOTM like features. EOTM is already the world’s most boring thing, pretty please don’t bring more of it to WvW. This might finish the extinction of WvW in this form.
Please don’t permanently replace all borderlands. Maybe randomly add this one instead of one borderland at most so those of us who don;t like PvE still have a map to play on.
Location : Hungary (Telekom)
Time and date of incident : 2015-03-07 and 08 after 8pm (prime time only, aparently)
Server : Aurora Glade (EU)
Description: skill lag, lag spikes, disconnect, chat usually works though. Skill lag even when standin in the grove, but really heavy on the borderlands
Today I checked, I was connected to206.127.159.154 (tried ports 80 and 443 though), there is no packet loss even when I’m lagging (checked with ping). According to tcpdump, there’s just no packets coming from the game server.
I agree 300G is way too much. This should not be gold-gated like this.
Once more thing, besides fixing the currency exchange to let us buy arbitrary amount of gems, could we please get the conversion chart back as well, so we can see how the exchange rate behaved in the past? It helps to see sudden spikes to avoid buying gems when it’s not worth it. Thanks.
Am I right that Anet removed the option to buy arbitrary number of gems?
I usually buy like 100 at a time, or however my actual balance allows. This makes absolutely no sense, why did you take this away? Did it harm anyone?
Please restore previous gem exchange or allow us to buy arbitrary number of gems.gold in the exchange panel.
This gated leveling sucks, here’s a solution!
New Player – gated leveling
Existing Players (already level 80) – no gated leveling for addition characters (Alts).
Your sixth character shouldn’t be more pain to level than your first! It’s not. Level 1-15 is significantly faster now a lot of players can get there in 1-2 hours. This was not the case before. It is just different with something being different comes unlearning at times.
Except that anyone having like 4-5 lvl80’s simply skip the first 20 levels with experience scrolls. And after that it’s still sluggish… very much.
I’m playing because I enjoy playing with my friends and my guild, I enjoy community on my server, I enjoy playing together with others. The game itself does not fascinate me that much anymore after the past two feature packs.
Pretty please. Let us get back the original character leveling and trait system.
This “new player experience” and the new trait system totally ruined the game for me. After leveling 6 characters up to 80 I don’t really enjoy this new way at all.
For me it feels like instead of 80 levels, Anet has lowered the character level limit. Because, leveling up means my character grows and gets increased stats. Now it does not happen, only after certain amount of levels (3?) – between the stat gains for me it feels like no leveling up at all, the “player experience” is slow and sluggish, I feel like something is holding me back, compared to the “original” player experience.
Wish I could choose whether I want this “dumbed down”, level-gated experience or the original one. Or it should be only for the first character per player, because afterwards it’s rather annoying than useful.
Just my $0.02.
I also have the same issue.
This video. I hope someone from anet actually watches it through.
Pretty please, undo this (along with the leveling/trait changes of the april pack).
Sad about this change, bannering the lord just brought us lots of intense and memorable fights. Just loved those.
With the current trait and leveling system I won’t buy new character slot or start new alt. Even before this september patch leveling was boring and tedious, now it got even worse.
The same happens here.
I agree this gating is completely unnecessary. I’m happy all my characters are already levelled up so this won’t affect them.
