No more zerker meta. Heh?

Bunch of peope knew the meta wouldn’t change. No matter what you do you are still gonna need damage dealers in order to get trough the content faster.

I don’t know why people belived the glass-builds would die. It makes no sense.

ofc they wouldn’t die, but now there are other spots in a raid/party besides dps (tank, support, healer), also many classes are better in condi (so viper/sinister) than zerker

Yeah this skill’s literally a ranged backstab lol. It’s like Rapid Fire on steroids. When you can do ranged AoE backstabs repeatedly on a 2 second cooldown something is clearly d
very debalanced.

what? i mean why isn’t that all the power rotations in pve revolve around CoR? Because it is not that high dps. Yeah you might see big numbers but things like rapid fire, 100blades and such it for more. You need to be at exactly 1000-1200 to hit that high and is easily sidestepped.

But hey let’s make it like that (numbers are an example): atm it hits 500 first part, 1000 second and 1500 third. If you wish we can make it hit 1000 at any distance. I’d would still be happy

It is not completely clear to me.

1 stack of Stability = 1 CC covered.
With dismantle fortifications if you’d eat1 stack of stability, now you eat 2.
Haven’t tested if it affects the break bar (guess so).

Aight so, you took a break before the elite specialization patch (23 june).

What happend: we basically got a rework on how you unlock traits and skills and how you build you toon (no more trait lines, hello specializations). We can now “specialize” in 3 areas (the previous traitlines) and unlock up to the grandmaster for all of them, the limitation is that we can only use 1 adept, 1 master 1 grandmaster trait out of three for each line.

The Hero Points (previously skill points): if you had any consumable purchased with skill points, those are still there; Hero Point count is based on level + skill challenges you have done around the world and the excess became a new currency, the shards.
Those shards took over skill points as currency to buy mystic forge specific items, so you should have a fair amount of that.

Elite specialization: you need 250 hero point to fully unlock that (and must be ofc lv 80 + all other base specialization unlocked). Core Tyria gives 200-210 (can’t remember the right number) so you should have almost everything right from start. The other points can be get in the new maps (west of silverwastes): there each hero challenge grants 10 hero points so with just 5 you should be good.

Masteries: is the yellow number that is where your level was. There are 2 types: Core Tyria and Heart of Thorns. You’ll level one “area” depending of where you currently are.
How it works: select a track, get exp that will full the track and at the end (if you have enough points) use Mastery Points to unlock it. In core tyria you should already have a good amount of mastery points (look in the achievements panel to see where to get more, is the red “seed”, hot specific ones are the green “seed”), for HoT Mastery Points you should play new story and new maps.

If you have more specific questions please ask here or mail me in game

Cheers!

HoT is not a grind, you made it by wanting everything immediately.
Instead why woudln’t you just explore, do stuff and events, clear achievements and do story? I’m 1 month in, basically al masteries unlocked and never felt the grind.

Also: can i haz ur stuff plz?

Where the hell do people get off with this notion that it’s the player’s responsibility to figure out how to enjoy the game. How far have we fallen from classic video games?

Ocarina of Time isn’t one of my favorite games because I played it the right way, or changed my mindset so that I would enjoy it. It’s one of my favorite games because from start to finish, it exuded playful joy at every turn.

But these modern games, they condition you to focus on the grind. You try to put it on this guy, but the game pulls your eyes to the numbers at every turn. Pulls your eyes to the currency costs and coin gain and mat requirements. I don’t know how anyone “ignores the grind” in a game like GW2 other than through active forgetfulness. Like self-induced memory loss or something.

I can only assume it’s a matter of playing with other people in such a way that the presence of those people distracts you from the gameplay. Because if you pay full attention to the gameplay, the numbers are in your face all the time. They call that “good UI design,” ha.

Seems like nowadays the average consumer of video games wouldn’t know quality if it bit them in the neck and stayed there. Somehow people have been hoodwinked into believing that it’s their responsibility (and by extension, other peoples’ responsibility) to enjoy the product, and not the product’s responsibility to deliver.

I feel old talking about this, even though I’m not. It feels like there’s a generation of gamers that has replaced the one I was once a part of. Some of them even people who played back in the day, but have forgotten what it was like. The new generation is desperate to prove to themselves and everybody else that games are amazing right now. Because they so want to believe it, in the way that the guy who paid $20 for a theater ticket wants to believe that what they just watched was good, even if it was crap.

Some days, I really feel like a stranger here.

Everything revolves around money. The game is structured to encourage you to spend money in the gem store, because money is required to produce such an elaborate virtual world.

If it wasn’t for money more games would be just as creative and unique and fun as the games of old. But that’s the current system.

You said:
“Where the hell do people get off with this notion that it’s the player’s responsibility to figure out how to enjoy the game. How far have we fallen from classic video games?”

At this current state of the game market, it unfortunately IS the player’s responsibility to not go along with the guidance the corporate hands that are perpetually resting their palms on our wallets. It’s the players responsibility to resist the urge to be a rampant consumer and play the game like it’s a job, because the producers who have a leash around creativity’s neck sure aren’t going to take responsibility.

It’s the state of the world. People have to make a conscious choice about what and how to actually enjoy their free time, because modern society’s values are entrenched in capital gain and productivity, and if anyone goes with that mechanical flow they’re just going to keep falling into the grind mentality that makes them tend to treat even their leisure time like a full-time job. Happens to me sometimes. Happens to most of us.

If you want your classic games without all the stress and brimming with fun, you’ll have to wait for artists and creative minds to escape out from under the weight of the imaginary numbers MMOG we call “the economy”. :P

lol it’s late at night.

Man I couldn’t say this better. Bravo.

HPS: Ventari vs Druid?

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

EditL: This is generally for PvE. PvP ventari has its own issues that need to be worked out.

Ventari’s healing is split into two parts which make it difficult to use reliably. The heal procs from the tablet itself. And the drops a ventari specced revenant can produce on use of the tablet. (One of the grandmaster traits)

You can control where the tablet heals. But you cant control where the shards themselves drop. Which makes it difficult to use them to support allies. Also to make the most of it your allies have to be looking FOR those shards.

Ventari’s sustained healing potential is high. As its capable of dropping those shards continuously. However the actual effectiveness is limited because theres no way to guarantee the people that get those shards are the ones that need them. And you can’t generate them fast enough to aid 10 people in a raid.

From what I can tell a support revenant is meant to work in two general parts. Mitigation and Recovery. Ill use vale guardian as an example as its the only boss I have used this setup on.

Jalis works very well for mitigating damage the grp takes in risky situations. You can use it to cover some of your people if you knwo your not going to make it to the aoe site in time. Also if people get low you can use jalis to lower teh damage they take for a bit to buy time for there healing to come off cooldown.

Once the dangerous moment has passed and its under control you can move back to ventari and help them all recover from the damage tehy have taken.

Its not a pure healing setup like druid. Its a bit more complicated than that. Infact I would argue that for the purposes of raid fighting it might be TOO complicated.

I would change the item drop grandmaster that instead of releasing a pickup on use. The tablet targets the lowest health ally nearby and instead pulses additional healing to that ally. The player would still need to be near the tablet to benefit. But there not looking at the ground searching for healing drops instead of looking at the bosses mechanics.

For healing many allies IMO this GM is useless you are better of getting the outgoing healing one. This trait is at its strongest for bubker builds specially in SPvP.

The issue is hte outgoing healing one doesn’t do enough either because of the range (low to high not skill range) of ventari’s base heals. Ventari CAN’T perform the kind of emergency heals a druid can with lunar impact. The bad part is in most runs your going to need that. My suggestion was more to repurpose that trait to provide the kind of emergency healing ventari is lacking.

Sustained healing is all well and good. But bosses are desgined with highs and lows. SOMEONE is going to get spiked.

Edit: Ventari does more than enough healing to sustain a group when its going well. And Ventari Jalis is good for keeping the damage the raid takes down. But it lacks the oh kitten heals for when things go wrong. Which in a well designed boss fight SHOULD happen. Or atleast the threat of something going wrong should always be there.

Edit 2I don’t want to just take up another post spot) What I meant by the above is that as long as the group only requires sustained healing then ventari is fine. Though in that case there are better heal options available. And your losing out on ALOT of damage youd be getting if that revenant went dps. So what your getting by taking a ventari healer in its current form may not be worth what your giving up when you could just take a druid that can also boost the raids dps.

If i compare the strongest heals of my Ventari to Druid, both in same gear Lunar Impact ended up around 4500 while Natural Harmony was around 3500 (on allies).

You can fire off 2 Lunar Impacts before Avatar goes into CD, 3 if you are fast and lucky.

That is 9000 Health in 10 Seconds, with another 10 Seconds CD. Natural Harmony has a delay of 2s and a CD of 2s. That is basically 3500 Health in 4 Seconds. That is 7000 Health after 10 Seconds, BUT there is no Cooldown of 10 Seconds before we can heal again. So we are looking at 9000 Health in 20s with (only) Lunar Impact compared to 17500 Health in 20s from Natural Harmony.

Another Thing Ventari has over the Druid in Raids is Energy Expulsion. It is a great Knockback against the Balls with basically no Cooldown.

Very true with energy expulsion, I sometimes brought ventari just for that job alone.
There’s a major flow in your calculation for Natural Harmony: you can’t fire 10 of them in a row…

Energy expulsion is indeed a very good point. But lunar impact and natural convergence are also very powerful BreakBar breakers. I also tried to take into account the amount of energy that the tablet consumes when it is moved and used.

However. He is correct that the gap between the tablet burst heal and the druid lunar impact aren’t as big as I had originally estimated (it took some time to test it) However the frequency at which you can use it drops the gap down significantly. As well as the lack of potential healing through water fields (but for the purpose of argument im going to assume 1v1 scenarios. Not group/combo/finisher scenarios because a druid becomes more bloated the larger the number of allies around there.) So on the aspect of his original topic which is the base healing in relevance to its scaling with healing power. He is infact correct. Though I don’t feel it overcomes the general differences between the two builds.

In a standard Ventari rotation (by using all your energy then swaping) you can use NH twice and movement 5 times. Also druid benefits a loooooooooooot more from outgoing healing and HP.

Indeed Ventari traitline is a little poor with some exceptions, Druid has a LOT more flavour and utility

Some days, I really feel like a stranger here.

Uhm can’t comment on Ocarina since I haven’t played it but I do have played many games since more than 15y now, so I guess I have a pretty good measure.

Anyway there some things people need to remember.

First, GW2 IS an MMO, which means that the playtime is usually more than lenght of the content. How? Repetition? MMOs are not single player games, if you step into an MMO there are few things that will always be there, otherwise they might be a SIM. Repetition of the content is a base, and is not evil per se, depends on how you use it.
Old school MMOs forced you grind in order to level up, gear up because those are needed and the time to spend before access some content was in some cases weeks (not kidding). This is bad grind. In GW2 the access to the content even if is gated with masteries or elite specs or in primis by needing to be lv80 is incredibly fast. Yeah, you still need a bit of work.
And that’s another pillar in the MMO genre, working towards goals. What makes me stick to GW2 is that the goal is totally personal and free and i can set whatever i want, not in other MMOs where basically your goal is to grind and get equipment to access next piece of content.
So repetition and goal. If you don’t like them, there’s no way you gonna like fully an MMO.
Now OP setted a goal, to unlock all e-specs as fast as possible basically disregarding all the content around that was build to take you there eventually but with fun.
Sure OP has the freedom to choose what it likes but then he has to take responsability if it doesnt works out. Like “hey! I’m playing COD and all I want to do is making jumping puzzle in the levels, I don’t care to shoot people! Oh I can’t do that? kitten COD sucks”. That’s the level of the rant I see here around.

Now if you wanna talk about bugs, quality/quantity of the story, how certain things work I’m all ears.

Anyway some tankiness is needed, as some healing, but the most important thing, that was there already in the “zerker meta” is that the support comes first. Yes. The real builds are the utility and traits, then comes the damage, and in this latter case go full damage is just the safest bet untill you get better. Enrage timer is what keep the attention to the max but you won’t go far unless you know to position, to strip boons, do deal also condi damage, to cc, etc etc

There’s 2 elements here:

1) Rightful action by Anet to remove problematic testers from their program

2) Entirely natural schadenfreude that you get when people are jerks and then immediately get blown up for being jerks.

People are a lot less mad at DnT than they are enjoying a case of the birds coming home to roost. You might not think that’s a terribly postiive attitude either, but you don’t get to be tastemaker any more than I do, do you?

I’m not seeing what they did as problematic or that they were being ‘elitist jerks’. I didn’t take their comments on twitter to be a serious jab at Arenanet, the players or the game, hence my comment you people need to lighten up. The hyper-sensitivity surrounding this community is astounding.

Any company employing testers would see it that way, it’s a pretty clearcut case of something you don’t want representing or associated with your company.

More importantly, try to think outside of your own head. It’s not that hard to get why others would see bragging #first (especially in this context) as obnoxious behavior. (I never said elitist though, you inserted that). You may not agree, but you’ve got to understand.

yep that’s exactly the thing. Also the bad AD, where for not well informed people it seems that first Raid in GW2 was cleaned within first hours in 15 minutes…

Judging by how long it takes to get World Bosses to die, I don’t think that many players are actually using Berserker’s gear. From what people ping in chat, it looks like they’re actually using Celestial, Cleric’s or Knight’s.

Most World Bosses are not melting, as someone recently posted. Even The Shatterer is holding his own. Probably because 90% of the players are using ranged weapons standing on the nearby debris. Hey, maybe that debris should be removed too.

Why revenant has no access to reflect?

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

They do, its called Ventari, very strong compared to other professions really, mobile while reflecting while others can’t, they just place it in one spot and that’s it.

Having 2 revs doing it, rotating properly with it, you get a 100% up time on it, they have enough as it is.

except that’s assorb and not reflect, still great tool

Any tank revs for RAID?

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

I’d say just go for a bit of mixed, I personally did what I could best and turned out fine, using 2 different foods along with superior sharpening stone, 1 food is dedicated for tough/prec, other for power/prec, stays roughly at 2,7k-3k armor. Unless you really want an all out tank?

well it’s not exactly NEEDED. Just be the guys with the most thoughness and then stack DPS. I feel like shiro mobility in tanky suit is the best, just dodge all around while autoattacking, sw/sh + staff for extra blocks/heals.

I’m also thinking about a Cleric’s tank and be both the tank and the healer in the group to free up a dps spot.

How the heck do you guys get the Charged Hammer head? I got an oiled Orichalum hammer head and I have been going to different power points and it doesn’t give me the option. Do you have to be a weaponsmith to charge it?

Go to hero challenge in HoT that are simple communes.

Exactly, must be in HoT maps and must be simple communes. Easiestest is the one south of the Pit Adventure in Verdant Brink

I would like to add from the Demon Stance that Empowering Misery does not heal for each condi put on you, it will only heal per individual condition, basically if you have 10 stacks of fire it will only heal you for 1 condi. unless this is intended?

Empowering Misery
Healing Healing: 4,600
Healing Heal per Condition: 596

yes is for each stack, would be OP otherwise (think of 20 stacks of bleeding or torment).
So either 1 or 5 stacks of burning is 500+ bonus

So basically if I have 5 stacks of fire, 5 stacks of Torment, 5 stacks of poison, 5 stacks of bleeding, it will only heal for 4 condi’s x 500

yes exactly + the basic healing + the bonus resistence if you trait for it (even with resistence the malus from poison still applies, beware )

Hypothetical Discussion on 2nd Elite Spec

in Revenant

Gaaroth.2567

If we get any elite spec which channel someone from gw2 i will just pretent that we dindt received elite spec.

Also lol at condi gs. Gs is needed as our 2h aoe melee power weapon. Longbow would be great for condi weapon. I wonder if we ever get hands on rifle tho..

I bet we’ll never get any mechanical wep.
Still i’d really like a rifle shooting mist-y thingies

- snipp -
Now look what ArenaNet gave us

4 new jumping puzzle based maps (same looking as previous maps, some small details were added)

0 dungeons

0 raids

0 new looking sets (not separated items, but sets)

0 new weapons (not skins,i mean actual weapons)

Elite profession

That’s about it.

Conclusion: What the actual kitten?

WAT? have you even logged into the game?

First of all 4 map full of kitten to do, with map wide metas.
I wont comment much on this because there are an incredible quantity of thigs to do: try all events, achievements related, hot story + achievement realated, new collections.

Masteries, conveniently forgot?
Adventures.
Elite specs.

Skins?
Armor
Bladed, Leyline, Guild dark, Guild light (6pcsx4x3weights = 72pcs)
1 per elite spec = 9
legendaries are coming 6×4(pre prec+final)x3weights = 72pcs

Weapon
1 wep per elite spec = 9
Auric, Reclaimed, Chack, Plated, Machined,golden fract, dark guild,light guild (16×8 = 128 + 3UW for golden = 131)
legendaries are coming 3×4(pre prec+final) = 12pcs

Backpacks
Legendary fractal 1×4(3prec+final) = 4
legendary pvp 1×4 = 4
Orders 3×3stages = 9
Auric 2stages = 2
Scribe 6stages = 6

TOTAL 320 and I’ve surely missed something

Infinite quantity of minis, potions, tonics, recipies (RIGHT I forgot to mention 6 new stats!) to get from map currencies.

Guild halls.

Raids coming today.

They are bundled in the base game but without hot we probly wouldn’t have new PvP and WvW map.

Yeah surely no content in HoT. Stop troll people.

TD meta & Chak Gerent

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

when you say Gerent is fine, can you show some video of a group burning it down by the time limit at SCAR lane? I’ve tried with small and large groups, all have failed.

you can find some on youtube (form [LUCK] or gw2community).
If people in nuoch are competent (properly smashing an killing srooms and no1 is overscaling it) SCAR lane is by far the hardest, because even with the no CC strat the lane has auto-CC from the Charrs you are protecting.
We are actually seriously thinking to let them die after first phase (fill first bar to lure out the gerent) so that the CC is less frequent / potent. I’ll try this evening and let you know.

I still really think that I would love to see a condition Greatsword elite spec for Revenant. I keep saying Kalla Scorchrazor as the legend too as she wields a greatsword and would offer us another female legend and our very first charr legend! That or…. SPOILERS!

Trahearne would also be awesome for a condition greatsword spec. Actually making it a hybrid condition/power, range/melee weapon like the underwater spear would be freakin awesome and let it synergize with the majority of Revenant builds. Plus it would be awesome communicating with him again and having him be your sidekick this time around. You could still be partners in the fight against the dragons too!

Special mechanic could be calling on the power of Caladbolg for some special effects

too soon Rain, too soon

I wouldn’t be too surprised if either of the you-know-whos in HoT end up as elite specs eventually.

Improving Ventari

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

Ventari #9 (condi remove) could use a stunbreak.

Make the legend skills (#6-#10) usable while stunned would be a more differentiated & interesting way to do it. ie: so instead of stunbreaking, ventari could use the tablet to heal through it, then maybe add an area stunbreak to the condi remove if it still plays badly.

yep we are discussing this in the other thread
I actually think having all skills instant and usable during stuns is ze bezt solution, a huge step in fighting the clunkiness of Legendary Applejack

OMG increase ore drop from POD!!!!!!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

I can get past the ore drop from pods but this must be regularized and not be a solo run, disregarding others. I’d like to see it fixed from pods, let’s say 1 sure, but majority of pods should be locked behid champions that guards them and spawns/you have access to after the meta event.

This gives a sure rate of drop + enforces group play nad not selfish run and let die mentality we now have.

Let's talk Ventari(PvP)

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

hum… are you sure op that ventari is designed for spvp? I’m don’t really sure. I think it is most designed with Wvw and Raids in mind. For sustained heal to mutiples targets But yes, even with this he need some adjustments.

Blocking off a play style for a game type is due to a lack of balance, bunker guards, and shout bow warriors are examples of a support classes that has done very well in sPvP as they greatly affect team fights with AoE healing and boons. I also am a big GvG/WvW player and I know that even in those game types not having a stun break is death.

Exactly! Point is i can understand such weakness if Ventari Pony was OMGamazing and no stunbreak would compensate for that, but actually, Pony (in healing power) is mediocre at best due to clunkyness/energy cost. I use it around only for the proj-hate on demand… and this is sad

Feelings about Offhand Sword?

in Revenant

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

Sword #4 The block is fine, but Shackling Wave ’s range (300) is too short. Needs to be increased to 400 to be practical. (Based on my play as Ele D/D)

Sword #5: Grasping Shadow needs to be redesigned. It should shadow step you back regardless of if the attack succeeds or not. The range of the attack itself needs to be increased from 130 to 300.

The maximum distance you would move is 600. – This is less than or equal to thief shadow steps.
The maximum distance the target would move is 900. – This is less than or equal to pulls of other classes like Engineer and Necromancer.

this is a good idea
