Still, good interview…i’m impressed by AngryJoe being on track even if he ain’t actively playing, which means he has done his homework.

Much professionality, so angry, wow.

Also i read often between the lines when colin freezes before he answers, because i believe there’s a skrittload of stuffs he would talk about but actually can’t. Hope they release more juicy info soon.

Revenant kills existing professions

Gaaroth.2567

So in this new HoT interview with AngryJoe and Colin, Colin says that the existing professions will get reworks of some of their skills and what not.

YouTube Link

This should allay people’s fears of being left behind if they do not specialize.

Well we have had 3 years to see what there balance changes/reworks to old classes are like and it isn’t really good enough. Maybe they should start showing us what they plan on doing to them.

My thoughts exactly. The gulf between some of the classes is quite severe and they’ve gone unchanged for years. I’m very concerned ANet will consider them a lost cause and focuse entirely on their specialization to fill the gap while at the same time ignoring that the well-off class’s specialization will no doubt create a new gulf between them.

I believe that’s the purpose of specializations in the first place, also because they are swappable OOC.

Take necro as example: we all know he lacks group support and his spec will probably fix that.
Wanna build for group support? Pick the spec and go. Going PvP? maybe vanilla necro is best, like in WvW.

Ofc this should not push them back from fixing existing broken/useless skill/traits, but that’s another story.

I was lead to believe the goal was to have 9 equally viable classes and 9 equally viable specializations. What’s the point of having 5 viable classes and 4 viable specializations?

Well everything is viable everywhere, good is another topic.
it would be nice but is hard to have everything good everywhere, nothing as of now is good everywhere, so specs are here to address weak spots. I expect that.
But hey, if they manage to give good new specs and make good all the base classes, hat down!

EDIT specs do not mean 1 build, also, so if necro spec fix them in pve i still expect some build options ;-)

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

in Engineer

@ Machiavell: If that were so, somebody would’ve mentioned it earlier, oddly enough, considering that this has been a thorn in the side of Engineers since beta. From what I hear, the Charr was a Warrior, and Flamethrower is already an Environmental Weapon in Southsun, at least – if an event involves Flamethrowers, odds are they’re not going to limit their access to Engineers. Also, given people’s tendency to latch on to stupid, stupid things, they probably wouldn’t demonstrate that an event uses flamethrowers by showing an Engineer with a flamethrower; they’d have a lot of dumb people saying a lot of dumb things about how it’s implied that only Engineers can contribute to the thing, just because Flamethrower is already something Engineers have access to.

Trust me. As soon as they declare that ‘the hobosack is dead, long live the hobosack,’ the Hobosack threads will stop dead, with the final posts being “HOLY CRAP THEY DID IT,” “About freakin’ time,” “aw, I liked the hobosacks,” and me going “…You know, I really didn’t expect that to happen. Guess I gotta pony up for two copies of HoT now, huh.” Implications don’t do the trick, though.

If you use environmental flamethrowers you get a hobosack even on a warrior and guardian and even a necromancer. My point still stands.

Yup that gives me much hope _

[Suggestion] Deployment of glider

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gaaroth.2567

Well like it was in Aion, you just need to be in the “air”, so basically a double “space bar” (the key for jumping and deploy wings if in the air) and you are gliding.

Imho easy to set up and less cluncky than actual (even if it’s more real, but hey, we still pull out the glider out of…nowhere XD )

Gaaroth.2567

Also, do we have confirmation that Rytlock is the first Revenant, story-wise?

During the first presentation of HOT the devs called him so, dunno if they stepped back then ;-)
If ain’t the case then there’s not issue at all since it would be considered a standard profession like anyone else.

ok i’ll put this down one more time.

If we speak about time, real world and the mists are on separate planes…which means time flows differently and you could also travel back in time.

Rytlock, on a linear time stream IS the first revenant, but then he can train new revenants in the mists and when they come back, they can come back before living story.

Hope it is clear.

Edit: typos

Which still needs to be handled in the story at some point.
I don`t mind time travel through the mists, but if they reintroduce Rytlock as the world first Revenant and you and dozens others already are Revenant, than it just doesn`t fit.

TThey would have to show him popping up in the past or tell us that he has done that, to explain the existence of a profession which he is (PR speak of course) the world first of.

An easy way to handle this would be the “future” Rytlock telling us revenants to shut up about our training especially with the “past” Rytlock we’ll be going to meet in PS to avoid breaking the future. Just this would patch it ;-)

Also you seems to miss that Rytlock IS the first revenant, just not in the world time stream, but in HIS time stream, you still elaborate all throught the world’s eyes … i know, time travel stuff are really “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuffs” :-D

Miyani and Skill Points

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gaaroth.2567

The video implied to me you could revert your bar BACK to XP if you wanted to earn skill points again. I don’t think enabling Mastery gain is a one way option. It may also be that you only earn Mastery in certain zones.

Nope, it was clear the opposite actually.
Sort of a quote “when you hit 80 your exp bar becomes mastery bar that trains currently selected mastery track”. This is permanent.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

They said also there would a balance in skill scroll spread to compensate ;-)

Bit Disappointed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

The more info that is released the more disappointed I become.

Sadly, this team does not seem to know how to bring more fun to this game. IMHO they are listening to the wrong people. I would much rather have had them made the class system more like GW1 in the expansion with multi-classing and some new weapons than bringing in specializations. They seem to want to tell you how to play rather than let you discover how to play. This lack of discovery is why they have such low player retention.

This not GW1. They cant just copy and paste gw1 design into the game. Specializations are gw2 spin on dual classes. The mechanics of the class supposed to also change. Giving each class a fresh new feel.

Not only, Like 80% of GW1 conbos were objectively bad and a balance nightmare: i would never have that system again here.

Revenant story = not chronological?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

No one watches Doctor Who? Or played Legacy of Kain series?
In simple word: the mist have no linear time dimension which means you can enter from an year and come back 10 years before. When we do wvw pvp or fotm we access controlled instaces enabling us to come back in “our time”.
Rytlock IS the first revenant but he could easly have trained us before in a moment before he jumped into the mist thanks to that (entering eg year 1234 and exiting or help spirits trained in 1231), thus not creating lore holes: he just need to travel back before our personal story, which is perfectly possible (or we could train in the mist and be back as lvl1 before zaitan).

If you want to watch this “chicken before egg” situation look at “Blink” episode of doctor who (is quite independant so is easy to follow separately and probably one of the best episode ever)

Sorry for typos, i’m on mobile ;-)

Patch day laurel

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gaaroth.2567

Gaaroth.2567

Are you really complaining about ONE DAILY LAUREL vs an entire month reward that takes some time to get?
Seriously?

There goes the point of the comparison flying over your head.

The point was that the argument for the January monthly not having a laurel reward was because people had already done the monthly. People had already done the daily, too. Yet it was rewarded with a laurel after the patch, but not before. This makes no sense, and is at complete odds with their reasoning for not attributing the January monthly with laurels.

Please read the post before replying, thanks.

Man, I’m saying you are using wrong weights. You cannot compare a montly reward vs a daily reward.
For the montly, is understandable, for a daily..meh.. I don’t really see the problem
