I’m not interested in “rng this or rng that” as this is beyond RNG.
But it’s not.
All the guild wars players are sitting around a table, taking turns rolling a 10,000-sided dice. If they roll a “1”, they can take part in the beta. But the “1” is not removed from the dice.
It’s not the dice’s fault that players who have rolled “1” already keep rolling. If enough people roll the dice, it is statistically likely that some of them will roll another “1” at some point. And so forth.
If you’re asking why ANet didn’t go to additional lengths to prevent a second item to drop when an already qualified person rolls another “1”, I have no answer for you, other than “why would they?” – In terms of outcome, it makes no difference either way.
<Not actual numbers from the game.>
Aren’t schools teaching a bit of statistics during math? Gosh is so elemental it amazes me everytime when someone has such questions.
+1 for the very good reply.

Also look, when you have your playerbase’s trust you can show up and say “hey, we think we have still some work to do and we are pushing the release date by 3 months” like CDProjectRed has done with Witcher3. People was happy to hear they cared so much they delayed it to have it perfect…
Wat r u, casul?
Seriously? The asc trinkets is the faster and easier part. LOL
Wat r u, casul?
I guess people was just too hyped about a possible “Paragon”
Wat r u, casul?
You guardians wanted the range option? Now pedal!
On serious note, i was never fond to guardian even of i’ve always played tanks in other games…but this spec disappoints me too
Wat r u, casul?
Imho the elite spec will loose turrets and get Drones and i see them working as signets with active/toolbelt/passive skills

Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).
Too bad we can already see this won’t be the case, right?
Yeah surely some meta builds will emerge but the point is that all other build shouldnt fall way behind like now, and that’s a good thing
I don’t think you looked too closely at the traits of all the classes in what was revealed of the new system.
I can’t speak for all classes since I main only engi and elem and I’ve looked deeply only for those. I see at least 4-5 equally good builds each that can all be meta at the same time, instead of 1-2 we have now. If that’d not diversity…
Anyway until the system is out we cant really say
Wat r u, casul?
In terms of build diversity, I don’t care for having some insane number of available build options but only using maybe a handful of genuinely useful builds. I would rather have a smaller number of manageable and more useful builds. If HoT were to reduce the amount of possible builds down by a factor of 10 or so, then I would expect the each of the remaining build possibilities to be incredibly useful. In short, I want quality, not quantity.
not clear here, are you saying you would rather have 10 good builds out of 20 than 20 good builds out of 100?
Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).
Lets be realistic. There will still be meta builds better than others. Just will take time to figure those out. And when that happens, the less options would pretty much force us to play the meta…
Yeah surely some meta builds will emerge but the point is that all other build shouldnt fall way behind like now, and that’s a good thing

^ People are complaining about losing stuff they already earned. You cant possibly compare something as trivial as world completion to setting back characters, a thing they openly said they wouldn’t do.
And the next unhelpful suck it up post is…..If they ever said that they’ve changed it a long time ago when they reset the progress in fractals for a leaderboard that never arrived,

Don't reduce our choices of traits! Please!

Man, do you seriously have used any possible combination? I don’t think so. Also most of them where not really viable and you always end up using the same 20-30 combination at best. So they are apparently removing options but you where not using those option anyway so what’s the problem? Also they are merging/removing/balancing all the traits and giving you a system that will allow creation of good and balanced builds for you while being easy to maintain, balance and expand for them.
Total win in my book.
I mean is possible that there will be no meta since so many build could be viable ay once!
Wat r u, casul?
This build is lovely odd..
definetly i’ll try it! Thanks for sharing
Wat r u, casul?
For most of the classes you’re forced into specific trait lines just because you hold a type of weapon.
This. So much of this. You want to be greatsword you have to get the greatsword trait and anything else that comes with it. Most of the time the traits seem well enough balanced that it’s -okay- but it still feels restricting. I should be able to play a power/condition build with a mace/shield guardian if I kitten well want to.
And that’s where the system comes in: if a weapon is build with X playstyle in mind you would commit to an entire specialization build for that X playstyle. That’s why many builds were not viable or were blurried. Pick a style, commit it. With trait rebalances/merges many playstyle forgotten before could emerge. This is why we are saying this system has the potential to bring more diversity even if we have fewer options. And I mean VIABLE diverse builds. Because that’s the only thing that matters.

If with the new system zerker amulet will be too squishy then….don’t wear it?
on the other side said amulet will be stronger, so, your choice
that’s what I don’t like about it… it’s creating too big gaps between different specs because of predefined stats on amulets without many choices… I just hope it will be possible to compensate with traits, so I don’t need toughness when I have some cool defensive trait for example…
Imho THAT is the cool thing, and the main reason celestial is so popular: there isnt massive difference between a zerk/knight and cele raw stat wise (ofc there is but is not big) and that’s why people ends up preferring the latter.
With the new system a glasscannon will be really glass and really cannon unless u being some nice utilities

Don’t make a celestial exotic! Totally a waste of time and quartz. If you want celestial do it ascended, otherwise mix other armor types
I’m, for example, running full ascended cele armor and zerker trinkets + all sinister trinkets ready for when the condition cap will be lifted (also considering an ascended sinister armor set, who knows)

Here’s the thing.
Is the total number of possible combination dropping? Yes.
Where all the possible combinations viable? No.
Where they easy to balance? kitten no.
What they are doing is giving us more meaningful choices, easier building for us and easier balance for them.
I don’t get why people feeaks out for loosing combinations when everyone was running with the same 10 viable ones. That’s hypocrisy. With the new system the number of viable build will most likely increase!

Wat r u, casul?

Wat r u, casul?
For my understandings it will stay an elite, no devs said it will be demoted to utility..there would be too much kit utility otherwise
Wat r u, casul?
We get to the total POLAR OPPOSITE of “diversity” – there are only 10 combination of 3 trait lines and everyone in a profession will be one of those 10. The. End. (the specialization with be another mix of 10 clusters of 3 lines).
Each of those lines will only 27 ways of traiting, down from 418.
We get simplicity. We get hammered towards the middle in terms of performance. We do NOT get diversity.
Now if you take the current system and toss out all the useless crap, then do your calculations again, you’ll find that this change is actually improving diversity.
that is not possible, you will never get more diversity by taking out options.
Well I say yes. If before you have 100 options but only 10 are viable and after you have 50 option and 35 are viable well in my book it’s diversity increase….
You have to understand that this new system WILL raise MORE viable option even if the overall possible combination are less.

I’m with OP all life. <3 the changes…so much i have to change ma pants

Curious if the Frost Aura gets the boons from Zephyr’s Boon and similar traits
Passive auras do not currently trigger this, only skill-activation ones (normal o signet related)

Indeed. What I have already suggested is to merge unranked and ranked and leave a “Playtest” and “Compete”; in compete you get to choose which mode you like to queue in.
In the end the queues will be 4 instead of 3 but everyone will be happy

Man i’m from italy too but i do not expect a translation.
Why?
1) i’d rather have them spend money/time on actual gameplay stuff
2) even if professional, a translation is NEVER like the original, you miss so many little bits, that’s the reason why i watch every telefilm in original english audio and everytime i have to choose a language i go to standard english.
Learn it, we live on earth where, willing or not, english is the most important language. Cheers

First of all d/f is more defensive then staff, just earth#5 saves kitten so much. Then air#4 for projectiles.
Given the fragility of the ele active defense is really the only solid options (skills, boons, dodges) so build to havee them.
My suggestion therefore is d/f full zerk.
Maybe with HoT condi will become more usable raising rabbid or rampager/sinister but zerk will always be good option.
As of build i run fresh air but that’s up to you.
Mi 2 coppers ^^

It is too soon, plain and simple.
you know whats too soon? an average of 88 people die per day due to guns in the US… so potentially 88 people died today in the US at the wrong end of a gun… and yet this game still has guns in it! like what the hell man! it’s tooo kitten soon!
In 2014, more people were killed by knives than by rifles, as many as five times more. Yet ANet allows knives to be shown killing people in game. It’s very offensive. They should consider those who read about someone somewhere getting killed by a knife and pull all knives from the game until enough time has passed since the last person killed with a knife has gone by.
too much win

I’m pretty sure the article said that journey-acquired precursors and the legendaries you make with them will be account bound. That means they won’t enter the market.
I don’t think it’s clear whether tradeable precursors will change in price. BUT there are other items on top of the precursor (tier 6 mats, for instance) that are used in crafting.
The overall cost of an account-bound legendary will be lower since you won’t have to buy the precursor, but this lowered cost will increase the amount of people who feel they can afford a legendary. That will be more demand for the same supply of the non-precursor ingredients, so the prices of those items may very well go up unless ANet provides an increased supply of these items. Such as rewards via the journey quest reward track.
Actually anet is giving that, in the form of map bonuses, as stated in the precursors’ blog post, giving a clear way to obtain those mats without relying only on gold/laurels/clovers craft

Have you tried the Triple Trouble Wurm or the updated Tequatl?
They are both very easy compared to WoW heroic raid bosses.
The only thing that makes them feel hard to some is the fact that its open world and you cannot pick the people you have with you. So you get a broad range from terrible players to good players. And people who afk/troll/leech.
Wat? I tried wow with a friend and it was a snore fest…seriously? All those plugin that tell you everything…blizzard actually built encounters knowing there will be plugins…

General idea of precursor crafting has been released, and I must say, I am intrigued.
When the announcement even took place in January, and Colin said that they have been working on ways to keep the old maps vibrant, I will admit to my skepticism. It’s a difficult task to keep people spread out when an expansion opens a map. However, after reading about Map Bonuses (described in the post linked), I am impressed.
It’s been some time since we’ve seen real, useful rewards that we don’t hope pops out of a shiny chest. Rewarding useful crafting materials and sending players on elaborate quests to use them sounds like the kind of thing that will keep me busy for a long time. I’m excited to participate in this system, and look forward to hearing more.
Thanks guys! Keep up the good work.
