ITT: People who don’t realize that if the Pick wasn’t soulbound, you would have completely circumvented a goldsink with a 10 dollar purchase.
No, the goldsink isn’t large by itself but that’s because there are other goldsinks available in game to keep the cost of other goldsinks to smaller increments. Many small gold sinks is better than fewer larger gold sinks. Were the Pick to be account bound, it’d require a readjustment of Merch Prices/Waypoint Costs to accomdate for the disappearance of the goldsink that the Picks provided.
These Goldsinks are a necessity to prevent your in game gold from becoming utterly worthless.
I hope you realize that you can circumvent this “gold sink” just as easily by purchasing orichalcum picks with karma.
I haven’t spent a single silver on gathering tools since southsun cove was introduced.
The reason these picks are soulbound on use, is because anet wants more of peoples’ money.
If you buy with karma, you just used a karma sink. Some would argue this is generally equal to a gold sink in some ways.
How long will these dyes be out? Trying to figure out best time to buy them from TP
I would say at least as long as the pickaxe. Which is listed on the main page now.
Just retiring this month! 26 years in the Army ugh, all over now. But I’m still a just a punk kid, I’m only 50 so Social Security will be a few years off.
If ever, you know how uncle sam works haha. But you get better than ssi I would think. Anyway, reeling this back around to gw2 lol.. I noticed many people who play GW2 (that I have met) are generally older than in other MMO’s I have played.
On reflection I could have stated it better. A previous thread about a grumpy old man kind of got me wondering.
The real question should have been are there players over 60 (age wise) playing GW2 and where. Just curious, no alternative motive other than would like to met some
You can change the title anytime you want :P
“I can haz azended!?”
Seriously though, wouldn’t that be like a pay to win situation? I doubt they’ll do that.
This. They specifically said at no point ever would items be available in gem store that offered an advantage over others. And since ascended is BIS gear… no. So anyone who has a ton of gems could just outright buy the best gear in game through transactions. You should have to earn BIS gear, with hard work or at least daily’s (laurels) etc. Money should not be the main theme behind the best gear. I personally could buy a legendary or two off the TP by simply tossing cash>gold, and that itself feels wrong. Even at the insanely high price, I believe it should have to be earned. people who spent the time to craft and people who spent the hours to afford it in game, they deserve the shiny weapons that offer no real benefit. But gearing out on gold is just bad, people need to earn something in game through work, not just tossing gold in to win.
As for fractal rings etc, I think you should be able to mystic forge them into something or at least sell for karma idk. I hear a lot of people have like 20 rings and can’t do anything with them. But at least they earned them.
They said it would not offer a UNFAIR advantage. That however is very open to debate to where it’s subjective nature can very well be worked around. There are many of the items that do not appear to have any significant impact one way or another vs anything else CURRENTLY available. This (imo) is one of places where the “vagueness” comes into play.
Even though 1 item may not be that much of a change from what’s available currently, multiple items (either grouped together or over the chain of timed progression) will definitely have a noticeable difference from the beginning……ie…..If we keep adding up the small differences eventually we will have a large difference.
Another thing I see thrown around quite frequently is the term “convenience”. In many debates that term is used to separate an item from the term “advantage”. This is something I do not fully understand as the two terms are rather synonymous.
As the game in itself has individualistic goals, objective means to an end change from player to player. This only adds to the subjective nature of what may or may not constitute “unfair” here.
tl;dr…..The whole thing is vague for a reason…..imo that reason is so they can change whatever/whenever w/o being tied to specifics and the possibility of further backlash, which was seen early on.
You can see though that they offer these items for a limited time, so while I agree that a collection of various items can lead to a more advantage situation, I think this is the “small” countermeasure to that. Why do we only see one type of gathering tool? Why do we only see discounts on 1 type of item at a time, or expansions? One could argue that this helps so that unless you are buying every addon as it comes you are unlikely to achieve every advantage build up. But I also would say that it could be simply they haven’t designed other tools yet, or to completion, or a combination of all the things I listed. This is all just speculation of course and is my opinion only. But I think players who have played from the start, or players who keep with the game deserve to have those small advantages. You see it in every MMO, that guy who started in beta has 100 items we will never see unless re-released (see Aion vet rewards…………………………). You know who has been around a while when you see them and their gear and minis, items etc, and you think “when the crap did I miss all that stuff?”
I think down the line people will see it like this. “Wow that is an awesome pickaxe!” “Thanks, I’ve been playing a while. It was limited time, so luckily I had a chance to be there and take advantage of history in the game.”
Where do you buy your pizza?
With 10€ I can get a nice pizza, some fries a beer/soft beverage and ALSO some a nice cup of hot coffee…10€ != $10
Kitten you for reminding me I have programming homework to do…
The price seems absolutely fine for an item that is unlimited.. I only use one character to mine/gather anyway. 800 gems for a pickaxe that will save me hundreds of gold through the time I play seems pretty fine to me. And it is the highest tier pickaxe as well, idk what else you could ask for. Account bound? No thanks, it is an infinite item, how often do you get that kind of item in game? $10 for an unlimited item, pfft $10 bucks can’t even buy me a pizza, or a video game, or a fast food meal anymore. Enjoy it while it lasts.
A year from now people will be in game wishing there was a permanent version of the pickaxe that didn’t cost karma or gold to buy every time. And we will refer them to this moment and they will say “Well crap that’s not fair, you all got such an amazing item and we are out of luck..” The only thing better I can think of would be a BL Salvage kit with unlimited uses, now that would be OP lol. And guaranteed I’d spend almost any amount to get it because I would make my money back so very fast :P But of course that would be game breakingly bad heh. Thanks Anet for the awesome item, the dyes on the other hand.. no luck yet.
Where do you buy your pizza?
With 10€ I can get a nice pizza, some fries a beer/soft beverage and ALSO some a nice cup of hot coffee…
I think thats euro yes? That is $13.14USD. 10 pounds is $15.32. I’m talking real NY pizza, not dominos :P But yes, economy’s differ. Also I’m talking 18" pizzas, not those dinky things at small shops :P
Just feel I should add this in – most “rich” people in the world don’t easily get to where they are and most have been working since they were legally able to work so they can achieve that level of work and earn their fortunes. Being rich is a nice outcome to a lot of hard work so I think if you do reach that level when you’ve put in all the work for it then you should be allowed to do what you like and seeing as this is a game where buying nice things with real money is acceptable and encouraged then I don’t think they should be slated for that.
Like it’s been said a lot already, the game would have to be P2P if they removed the gem store and I’d much rather someone looking “better” than me, but being able to play free for as long as I want. Besides, the items on the gem store are hardly bank breaking and only the people buying serious amounts of gems for gold are the people benefitting slightly, but even then if they choose to waste that money on a game they most probably have earned that right by working their way up in real life. Like I said, it takes a lot to be rich and really doesn’t come easy.
Yep. Those people in real life that everyone call rich in game, they din’t get there (most of them) by just inheriting tons of money. Most of them worked hard or went through years of training or work to get to where they are. So if they have every item on the gem store, good for them. They deserve it, but in no way makes them better at the game as far as progression or unfair advantage. Gold in game can only by you so much.
I think the living stories will progress. New chapters to add onto the original story. Adding on to the personal story imo is much harder than simply adding new content. They have to rehire those voice actors, put new dialogue so on and so forth. Much easier to create living stories that come and go with time, much like the real world. You head to gamestop (just an example) and they have 50% off every MMO, if you miss out it may never come again. And things like news or history (not getting into teh sad stuff) but we live through much of it. If you are at least 20 years old irl you have witnessed at least by television or newspaper so many huge events that once they are gone they are gone. If you weren’t there you won’t ever see it. I think this is where they are heading. Although I’m a little confused because while agree personally that the living story should logically have an end (at every finale of each story), I hope they give plenty of time to enjoy each before starting a new one.
I do see new bosses, dungeons, places in the future. Check your map and look at all the areas we cannot go. So much room for advancement. One can only hope we will see each other fighting some giant wurms in a sandy dessert with scorpions, or finding ourselves in a huge underwater or above land area with entirely new adventures (these 2 might be more expansion material than patches). But who knows, lots of us support Arenanet and can’t wait for this stuff. There is TESO and FFXIV as well coming, and Destiny if people like more futuristic stuff. I’ll dedicate my time to all of them if they interest me and I imagine all the upcoming MMO’s and GW2 have much in store for us.
Also I hear you will be able to fight John Smith as he will be transformed into a giant Charr holding a 5000 page journal of transactions that looks similar to the guardian book skill. And if we win everything on the broker becomes free. But as we have seen his power is clearly over 9000.. So I doubt we will ever see that day.
I’ve been retired for almost 4yrs, but do not qualify for ssi on multiple fronts. I’m not sure where this question is leading either as I cannot find any relevance to much of anything….ie what does ssi have to do with someone’s grumpiness and how would that relate to this game anyhow?
Yea I think the title could have been a simpler “How many other old grumps play GW2”. And that would have been fine. The SSI thing is personal for some people, as would be asking how many people play who’s moms bought the game, who live off disability etc etc. While none of these things are necessarily bad, I doubt that they add much to the conversation other that arguments about non GW2 related things like pension, SSI, and other government moneys. Nothing wrong with asking how many older players play though imo.
All ore veins.
Soulbound(One character)
$10USD(800 gems) or about 22-25g>gems.
It is unlimited uses.
Arenanet currenty has no plans to add a higher tier ore so this is good for all ore veins.
Also it does this http://tinyurl.com/cerbhak
Just thought i would put some unbiased info.
tell me when you collect 55k ores…
And I say that compensated
I collected 3 ores with a really cool lava effect… and I can do that for every ore node I see. I got what I paid for and am quite satisfied.
Laaaaavaaaa. Also I use it on copper nodes, this is how I make giant krytan pennies. Just sayen.
Not really. They pay or steal an account 60 bucks, pay for a mining pick on 1 character.. Then get the entire account banned. That makes no sense money wise, this won’t help them. They don’t want to spend, they want to make.
Mining bots are hard to catch / report. They spend less then 3 seconds in a spot to just 1 hit. Even if you are mining the same nod, you are not quik enough to select the character and send a report.
Farming bots are reportable by normal players, mining bots are not.
But that is assuming Arenanet has zero mechanics, code, ability to spot them. Which I highly doubt. i don’t disagree that it is hard to report them, but sooner or later those types of bots will be out of business as well. A good patch to block it, or a design to catch it and they lose out. I doubt GW2 is a very profitable game for RMT compared to others.
I have 11 alts, I bought one. Enjoying the volcanic animation as I play ^^ I don’t need my other 10 alts farming ore. Cheap $10 purchase, can’t wait to see more cool animated items ideas from anet.
Fan boy, nothing wrong with us wanting either a little cheaper or account bound. I have spent roughly $200 on this game so don’t call me cheap. But I want to feel I’m getting my money worth. Worst exchange rate ever in gems to gold and this is over priced as well. Everything else so far in the Gem shop is reasonable.
/shrug 10 bucks is 10 bucks to me. And Idk about the fanboy comment. I spent around 800 dollars over the last 2 months on the game because it was fun, and I could. I support games that I enjoy. If I’m a fanboy for that, then ok. Again, it is 10 bucks, people at mcdonalds minimum wage in cali make that in an hour. As for gold – gems, takes me a day to make 20g. So kinda lost on the problem here. But to each their own I guess.
You are also missing the gold sink economical issue account bound versions would cause over time. But whatevs.. I have one, mining ori and mithril with lava feels pretty epic with my fused bow, 2 daggers, and greatsword.
As I stated I have spent roughly $200 so its not that I’m unwilling when I can but even as someone who tries to spend money on the game I can’t afford a pick axe for each character and your rich kitten is nuts to suggest everyone should. I will say again that success they have had or not they could have even more success if it were cheaper.
Lol I’m not rich… And I don’t think everyone should pay money in game if they can’t afford to do so. But 10 bucks is not a big deal. I could see a complaint if some mechanic of the game cost 50 bucks and you couldn’t play without it. But for this I just don’t see all the anger making sense.
Also I don’t see the point of 8 unlimited pickaxe wielding characters.. You only need 1 to run around and truly spam gather everything. The rest of my alts do just fine when they come acrossed a node. I generally play 4 of my characters a day. But I know to switch to my one with unlimited pick when I want to farm ore.
It’s just not worth it as is. The same can be said about all the gemstore items. Make it worthwhile and people will pay.
People are paying though, a lot. Check the gem price to gold, you can see tons of players tossing large sums of money at the gem store. So clearly there is a large amount of players who enjoy whats there enough to buy. If Anet released $ numbers it would probably shock people.
1237 hours 3 months. I play a lot :P
Wow! That’s almost 100 hours a week! It doesn’t exactly answer my question of how many picks you go through in a given week, but it does give some kind of context. You actively play 13 hours a day?
I guess, perhaps at that point it’s going to save you a few gold at some point. Whether or not you even need to save gold would be a whole other question.
And I’d spend the 10 bucks for the animation and unlimited uses (for convenience) alone. the saving money over the months or maybe years of play is cool, but in no way really influenced my purchase. Besides, after all it is a convenience/shiny item
That’s what I was getting at above. For some people convenience might be worth 20 gold, and who’s to say it’s not.
:P Oh and it saved 4 slots of my inventory.
Of course, you could buy an entire new bag slot for half the price.
Unless, of course, you’ve bought all three extra bag slots, equipped twenty slot bags in all seven, an still feel that you need to free up four slots out of the 140 you’re sporting. Which is almost as mind-boggling to me as someone playing thirteen hours a day for three months straight and enjoying the game enough to plan on playing for years to come. You know about “deposit collectibles”, right?
How four? Other than the back up pick you don’t have to carry, what are the other three slots carrying that the molten pick saves for you?
I have every bag slot upgrade for 2 characters. I have every bank slot maxxed, cannot upgrade further. As for the bolded part, I have no comment :P
And the 3 slots would be for all the consumable “fun” items I love like mortars and ember spirits and ogre whistles :P
oh your last question, I carry 2 stacks at least of each gathering tool. So now instead of 6 slots taken, it is only 4. unless I worded it wrong? Maybe I did, it is early lol
Guys, the idea is this: With the excuse of gem-gold exchange, A-Nets consideres that everything they add in the cash shop is affordable by everyone and so, all the content they provide is available for all.
What I wanted to show is that, in this way, it will be easier to take everything out from the game rewards: weapons, armors, etc, and just put them in cash shop. People could just get the gold in the game from whatever activities they do, and then do the gold-gem exchange. For example… they added the “daily costume brawler” to boost up costume sales.
and about of these mining picks: farming Bots have got an easier job now
Not really. They pay or steal an account 60 bucks, pay for a mining pick on 1 character.. Then get the entire account banned. That makes no sense money wise, this won’t help them. They don’t want to spend, they want to make.
A ton of my wealth is tied up in all the random items I have lol Gem item or otherwise :P
It also has a fantastic animation when mining and makes picking up copper with 80th level characters completely guilt-free. Zero harvesting overhead.
Zero harvesting overhead? You mean other than the cost of 500 orichalcum picks you spent on it, right?
800 gems for a pickaxe that will save me hundreds of gold through the time I play seems pretty fine to me.
Save you hundreds of gold!?! You must buy an enormous amount of gathering tools! How many do you buy in a given week?
If you buy 10 a week (wow, that’s a lot of mining), it’s going to take an entire year of play to break even. After two years (!) you will have saved 20 gold. It’ll take you 11 years to save hundreds (200) of gold, and that’s if you do spend so much time mining that you actually go through 10 picks a week.
Really, how many do you use in the average week?
1237 hours 3 months. I play a lot :P And I’d spend the 10 bucks for the animation and unlimited uses (for convenience) alone. the saving money over the months or maybe years of play is cool, but in no way really influenced my purchase. And besides now I have all these for my alts :P

wait the ori pick nerf in the next patch.
They have no plans to add higher tier gatherables right now.

I think your diving into very personal territory lol.. I see this getting little response or being locked. I do know people in game ranging from 16-58 though.
“I can haz azended!?”

2k ish.
/15kittensAre you serious?? if so that makes me feel a whole lot better, I only have a few hundred down. That…is pure insanity though xD
^^ yea.
Sadly I spent 4k on some…other…game.. by NCsoft. Now that was a waste lol. Always somethen fun to buy on gem store for me, and upgrades etc. If you have it, its ok, so long as it doesn’t affect you financially your ok.
2k ish.

11 definitely qualifies as an altoholic. I have 13. I bought one for my main farmer. Not so much because its cool or going to save money—simply for the convenience—I never have to think about a pick again. I’m OK with it as an option in the gem store.
Yea I like that too, I usually carry 3-4 stacks of each… even with 141 spaces thats annoying.
I bought one for each of my 5 characters. For me, the convenience of never having to worry about buying picks ever again trumped everything else. I only maybe buy gems every 3 – 4 months, and only if there’s something I really want, so I could afford dropping the $50 or so for 4000 gems.
I think that if (and it’s a big “if”) ANet releases T7 or higher ore nodes in the future, there’s a good chance that the Molten Alliance picks will be upgraded to harvest those nodes too. The picks were sold on the premise that you’d never need to buy mining picks ever again, so we could argue that the MA picks should be upgraded to match that promise.
Yea they said they have no plans to create higher tier ore at the moment, nor are they working on it. If an update does come way down the road, these will still be really cool.
Actually, I have one and it’s description says “Used to mine all metals. Unlimited use.” As it says, ALL metals.
“Used to mine all metals.” is in the description of every standard Orichalcum Pick, if there ever will be a higher tier they will definitely change the text to reflect this.
And the Pickaxe in the shop explicitly states “same efficency as an Orichalcum Mining Pick” so there is still no guarantee it won’t become useless one day.
But there’s no guarantee that it will either. Works both ways.
ok, makes sense. at first I thought it should be by percent different in results. but even flipping a coin should give you numbers close to 50% within 30 flips.
I like to see it like this:
if you roll it one more time, how much will it change the average if it’s the highest or lowest possible result. say 30 flips gives 15 heads and 15 tails. 16 heads and 15 tails will change the percentage to 51.6% : 48.4%, which is still pretty close.
Coins don’t have variables and fuzzy logic tho :P Well at least not as many.
Wow, threads went all over the place my bad lol. I’m hoping to get friends to play this weekend. I posted all over twitter and FB lol. Hopefully the ones that maybe join come to my guilds and others. And beyond that hopefully they buy the game and come back.
If you buy a game for 1 sole purpose that you seen then possibly. It was mentioned that it was a goal to achieve this, not that everything would be added. Even in the beta registration of every game it says “features are subject to change or not be available at any time”. taking that into consideration people should have seen the warning and enjoyed the game for the many other things it does right. To base an MMORPG off one aspect is just silly. I understand some players will just PVP, PVE, WVW, or whatnot, but your seeing a small scope of the game and making it sound like the game is terrible because of it.
Er, what? You seem to be conflating my posts with someone else’s.
Still, PvP could have been released in a much stronger state than it was.
But that doesn’t mean the game is garbage because it doesn’t have what you want right now. Every patch we see things added that people on forums mentioned and stuck up for. They haven’t given up, they are simply working on many things. 8 months in and everyone expects the game to be the last MMO ever, it won’t happen. In TESO and maybe FFXIV people will find things they wish were in GW2 and vice versa. It just takes time for change. And if you want something that wasn’t stated, stick by a suggestion and get people behind you. Instead of rail on the game and its creators because they don’t meet your speed requirements.
I didn’t say it was garbage.
If I didn’t still hold out hope the developers will change PvP for the better, I wouldn’t be here. For example, I left Diablo III and haven’t looked back; I don’t even check for updates. That is a game that was garbage and that I gave up on.
I gave up on Aion because it turned into a cash game. You really spend more time on the cash store than in game.. It’s kind of sad. Not everything was directed at you ^^, but just saying in general. Forums are a very dark seeded place for people who complain just to complain… Again not pointing, just in general :P
I just bought one sight unseen on the strength of the amount of forum posting about it. I knew it had to be good. Omg! The nerdgasm was intense when my fire-themed character finally ran through his normal picks and I saw it in action. The only the reason I’m not buying it for another character is the poor guy might get deleted.
Oh, and I don’t care if its soul bound on use. All my characters have individual e-souls and they don’t need to share everything.
Lol.
I’m debating if I should get the Molten pick and it really comes down to 1 question. Is this new pick equivalent to an Ori Mining Pick or a Master Mining pick.
For those who don’t know, Ori Picks will only mine things up to Ori grade, while Master picks are capable of mining all metals. This means in 6-9months when they announce the expansion and increase the tier of materials, Ori picks will be useless, but Master picks will be good as ever. So the question is… is this an Ori pick or a master pick?
If I can use this pick for the rest of the game it is probably worth the 55,000 uses it would take to break even. If it is going to be obsolete in 9 months or so then it probably isn’t worth it.
Depends which master pick, the master pick with a lower than 35 level limit can only mine up to mithril (if 35) and like darksteel if 15. Judging from the description, this pick will mine ALL metals so yeah, you’re covered for any possible future nodes that may be release if that ever happens.
There is also the fact that they could just release “other” ore and gatherables that share the same tier. Entirely avoiding having to code new tools etc.
I have 11 alts, I bought one. Enjoying the volcanic animation as I play ^^ I don’t need my other 10 alts farming ore. Cheap $10 purchase, can’t wait to see more cool animated items ideas from anet.

At one point I offered to buy the game for friends and family, that way I didn’t have to play alone, but it didn’t work. Other gaming communities already look at this game as being a fail(mainly in pvp).
That is because they are defending the game they love. You can see the reverse effect here, how many threads say that GW2 ruined other MMO’s and is so much better in every way? Try and ask those people to play WoW or some other MMO aside from the upcoming AAA ones. And peoples expressions of “fail” are opinions only, not statements of fact.
If you have anyone on the fence about GW2 this is the weekend for them. Free Trial Weekend incoming!

Also: In before “OMG THE GAME IS FAILING BECAUSE OF A FREE TRIAL!!!!!11!”
Lol don’t get them started :P
This seems somewhat counter-productive in regards to getting rid of botting.
Botting/RMT don’t like spending gold/cash, only earning it. It is counter productive for THEM to buy it. Especially since they will get banned sooner or later, a loss is a loss.
I have 11 alts, I bought one. Enjoying the volcanic animation as I play ^^ I don’t need my other 10 alts farming ore. Cheap $10 purchase, can’t wait to see more cool animated items ideas from anet.
Vid should be ready in a minute, and in HD a few after.
Thanks a bunch! It looks pretty sweet indeed, but that just made me wonder which other cool effects they could make q_q I believe I will end up buying anyway
I’m hoping for shattering ice animation heh at least for picks. As for harvesting-gathering tool, ice something-or-other would probably be better. Axe, hmm fire again would not be logically good lol But maybe after you chop it down the chopped part shatters :P
It’s a no brainer for me.
I get about 18g per day so I can pay this off in a day and a half.
Agreed ^^ That is if I did the gold > gem, which I don’t, but still.
By making it account bound your essentially making hundreds of thousands of people never have to use a (part) of a money sink. There would be every account would probably get one, thus making the gold purchasable ones totally pointless other than to those who missed out or didn’t buy. Soulbound makes it so it doesn’t remove a part of a gold sink that is necessary in balancing the economy. Say all 3 are added, and they are all account bound? You just make those NPC’s and their gathering tools entirely useless. Granted the change won’t be seen right away, but overtime it will effect the economy in some way. But come on.. it is $10… Gas costs me $75 to fill my tank, $10 is nothing for a cool addon.
1. It has an awesome unique animation.
2. It is UNLIMITED.
3. It costs less (through gems) than a large pizza at any restaurant near me. Pizza or mining pick.. decisions decisions…
Dyes are tradeable..
I got 1 Pyre(out of 5), and a few regular ones. Pyre is 14g on TP, just sayen :P
I agree if this item was account bound it would be an instant buy for me. But because it is a soulbound item I am doubting if it’s worth the money.
Same here.
It’s definitely not worth it as it stands right now. But… Anyone has any vídeos using it? If it’s THAT cool, who knows…
Vid should be ready in a minute, and in HD a few after.
Also can we get an ice version that freezes and shatters the node :P
The gathering item would have to be different, because you don’t want to run around burning down plants.. Maybe an ice gathering tool that fresh freezes the plant lols
I’d like to be able to choose what reward we get. I for one don’t really care for skins all that much but gold? Man I love gold. Easy for others to get but not for me. I seriously make 10-15 silver at best on a -long- session. Give me an option to pick gold over a weapon skin and I’ll be a happy camper.
If that’s too economy breaking then at least let me be able to sell whatever the reward is.
How about a ticket AND 1 gold :P Account bound 1 time deal. And upon the wrap up of F&F we end up with some new meta bosses who drop chests, and a mini dungeon or two. And the 2 mini dungeons have their own weapon sets.
This is what happens when you try to screw people over, I hope that you and your friend lost all your gold.
That’s a rather harsh way to put it. If he listed the item for 10x their original amount and it sells, then it means that the item was undervalued all this time. If it doesn’t then the seller will lose money, which they had in this case, for overvaluing their goods.
Their mistake is not trying to screw people over, rather overvaluing their goods (also lack of capital to certain degree).
And by the looks of it some lack of understanding some basics about the TP.
And where does Arena Net put down the info on all this?
It’s not written within the game and i agree to a certain extend that these information should be made more available in a convenient manner. However, like the TP sales tax of 10%, this rule is not written and is something that needs to be observed.
This is why I am a little upset with Anet because they do not give out all the necessary information to players so they can understand exactly what they are doing. Of course things are learned over time, but Anet should do a better job at putting down info on the game so players, such as myself, don’t make mistakes that can cost them..
But if you are going to do something risky like play the market, you need to ensure you have all the information possible to do so. It is much like a person buying 500 stocks of microsoft, or sony, and thinking they will be rich. Or trying to day trade with 500 dollars in your account, which will receive you slams of warnings. Playing the TP assumes that you know it in depth, and with that in depth knowledge you acquire ways of flipping certain things or making profit. Without trying to sound entirely rude, it isn’t on Arenanet to ensure you are a skilled TP player. Most the TP information you need in an everyday setting IS available online, beyond that you need a depth of knowledge not everyone has, or wishes to have.

Some things are common knowledge, stuff you learn over time.
