Weirdly it seems Anet dont like their own forum… Considering we have little to no information and i have just stumbled across a IGN article with some revealing info is makes me a sad to think that this place should be first and foremost when giving out information about the game and upcoming updates.

This has nothing to do with Anet liking their own forum. It has far more to do with Anet playing nice with certain sites. By giving the “scoop” to fan sites, they get people to visit those sites, perhaps even in exchange for commercial consideration, or ad space.

It’s good to keep the fan sites happy. The information was posted here on the forums anyway, right?

Giving scoops is fine. But there is no reason why the GW2 players should have to search for the info. The forums are one of the easiest ways the GW2 dev community has to communicate with it’s players, and there is no reason why the forum mods or community managers can not link pertinent sites and interviews in the News section of the forums.

Players ask why the devs don’t communicate more with the forums, and are told time and again that they don’t have the time to. But yet we see constant interviews, feeds, news stories appear on other sites that the devs have spent hours on. I’m not sure if anyone is asking for exclusivity for the forums, but keeping them in the loop isn’t too much to ask imo. Forgoing your official forums for face time on other sites does more to alienate people than it does to bring a community together.

It was all over their twitter.. So really if you are a hard core follower (facebook, forums, news feed, twitter) you aren’t doing any searching. In fact I knew this when I woke up because I had an update on my cell from gw2 twitter.

I have GW2 in my news feed so I get the updates. But again, this just adds more to the fact that the forums aren’t being used effectively by the Anet team. You just added three more things they use more than the forums: Twitter, Facebook( seriously…facebook?), and news feeds. They are using all those, investing time, which doesn’t detract from my statement, but adds to it. Essentially “If you want info from the company go here, here, here, or here. Just don’t go to the forums, because it isn’t there”

Social networks > This forum. And you scoff at Facebook (yes I dislike it too) but it has 800 million users. Welcome to 2013.

Thank you for your point of view that facebook is greater than the forums, and should be taken more seriously than the forums.

Thanks for taking it out of context :P GJ
Social media accounts for a huge number of ad space and information. Far more than this or any forum anywhere. Users of this forums, users of GW2 know that the official pages are also great sources of information. The great number of players are usually internet savvy and use these social media outlets far more than this website/forum. So yes, as far as ads/revenue/information, facebook can reach a greater audience.

And I never said it shouldn’t be linked. I edited my post and explained that.

Also they do tend to put in the info on the site after the interview has happened. These are different departments, so I imagine they are making sure everything is set up. And then link to the interview later when able. They often also talk about upcoming interviews that haven’t happened yet. So if people are paying attention they know that this and other interviews weren’t really surprises.

For everyone that did not buy it because its soulbound there will be someone who bought multiples because it is soulbound so no loss to Anet here.

Hey thats smart maths (apart from the fact that you completely made up the “for everone x there will be someone y” part). How about I counter your “argument” by equally made up facts: Every person who bought 8 picks for his chars would also have bought them if they had been account-bound, because he obviously has too much money on his hands and cannot be bothered to switch one pick around between all his chars. Those who did NOT buy the pick because it was not account-bound would have bought it in addition to all these people, thus adding a lot of sales to the pick. All those sales are now lost.

Hypothetical facts are so fun

For every person in this thread who didn’t buy a pick, I spent 200 gems for in the last month each. Fact.

I’m an avid gatherer, I keep track of timers so I can make the most of gathering everything right when it respawns, Omnom’s are 6 hours respawns.

hmmmm, with all do respect, you are also asking questions bout how to farm tier 6 materials in another thread. So calling yourself an avid gatherer might be a too bold statement. Besides that you go against the statement on the offcial wiki and that of established players like Bri.

I’m NOT saying your wrong but it’s hard to swallow it as a fact when other sources are disagreeing with you. So can you please explain more of your testing methods. Best offcourse would be a few sets of screenshots with the servertime showing on the map (3 sets of 2 pictures would do).

If your right this is imo revolutionary and important to be changed and added on the wiki.

There was a point to not letting everyone know about the actual spawn time… And that was to make bots less efficient. If they do little to no research and follow the wiki, they are possibly losing out on controlling or manipulating things. But now it is all over this thread, so be ready for a patch. Things are hard enough to get as is…

Omnomberry’s respawn 6 hours after you gather the node, in the exact same spot (unless there is a new build in which everything respawns and all nodes are moved in locations)

Do you have any source for this information, cause all info points into the direction that Bri above you have it right. So please proof this opinion.

At Bri,

I actually have this issue on Southsun Cove and not on Malchor’s leap (farming on riverside, thank you riverside community for providing us with the best resource map in the world)

I have a suspision bout the course.
Empty maps: If a map gets empty (no players) it goes to sleep and is remade on the server when someone enters it again, restting all events as it was a serverreset.

I agree with the poster, I couldn’t remember if it was 6 or 8, but 6 sounds right. This is from experience.

Lol people shouldn’t “need” to convert gems to gold. It isn’t that hard to earn

Well, since most people seem to make gold in-game by ‘flipping’ items on TP and price-gouging, rather than actually doing something positive then I’ll pass on that, thanks.

I don’t I work for mine, no TP flipping here :P

I for one would love to know how you do this. I’ve been playing since before halloween last year, and I regularly do dungeons/fractals (at lvl 20 atm) and wvw. I haven’t done any “flipping” and I would say that I probably have around 30g floating between my characters. My main mesmer is fairly decently equipped in full exotics and ascended items(no legendaries or custom made armour) and I have master crafting completed. I would estimate that I’ve lost at least 100g to gold sinks in the game, holding runes (not even the 20 slot ones) and siege equipment etc. So far the best return I’ve found in the game is to run lvl 18+ fractals, probably netting around 1.5g per run. I don’t see how this is a good return for time spent by any measure considering the price of just 1 berserker insignia let alone a legendary precursor for example. So lets be generous and say that all in all, over the ~8 months I’ve been playing the game, I’ve netted 180g, of which at least 50g has been lost in essential taxes (WPs and repairs).

I like the idea of crafting, and imo it should be possible to make a decent in-game “living” off of it. unfortunately atm margin for actually crafting items is 0% when compared to the raw materials, and while I am financially inclined irl, I’m not really interested in wasting a lot of time playing an in-game market.

I should be also able to earn decent cash by gearing up well and going to kill stuff that is otherwise difficult/impossible to kill. Atm it is all so randomized and littered with junk that forces me to eventually fill up inventory and go sink maybe 6 silver into waypoint travel to sell. Kind of reminds me of the Karka event where 1/200 people opened the chest and got precursors worth many 100s of gold (they were minimum of 300g on TP at the time IIRC), while everyone else makes do with drops barely worth 1g if that, even though we all fought our behinds off.

I know this post sounds a bit sour, but I’m certainly not feeling like my effort in-game has been suitably rewarded.

If your goal is to make money you will find a way. Not every way to make money is fun, and not every fun thing to do makes money. If you play just to enjoy the game you probably won’t see that kind of gold unless what you enjoy falls under a few various routes of play. The biggest secret to making money in GW2 is the same for most every MMO and that is efficiency. Knowing what makes you money, and how much time you need to dedicate to it is how you get what you want. I dislike dungeons, so it isn’t COF, and I don’t do TP flipping. But people focus far too much on trying to make money through one single thing, and that is exactly what is holding them back. Game wasn’t created in a way that you can just corner one aspect and be rich, or get everything. But I can’t write a guide on how to make money either, because I had to learn my own way and what I enjoyed doing. And that balance can’t be found in any guide.

Now on the other side of this I just want to mention you can do just fine playing the game normally. You may not see hundreds of gold, but you will have fun and make enough to get by. And the best things in game can’t be bought with gold anyway.

Youtube guides are good, but why should people have to research the dungeon on youtube and guides just to enjoy them? Why can’t people simply run them and experience them and learn?

Well, you see, there is a very brief time in MMO life when everyone are new to dungeons, don’t know how to do them and start to explore them. After a while the majority of population will know everything about dungeon.
So basically if you don’t learn the dungeon from youtube or guides, you’re forcing your teammates to explain things to you. It’s fine by me. But not everyone have time. Some people jump in-game for 1 hour to do a quick run and don’t want to explain things. Especially without voice communication.
The solution to this would be either to play with 4 friends who are as new to this game just as you are or to find a guild with such people. There’s just no other way around to explore dungeons in any non-new MMO. You really need to look on this from both sides, not just your own.

why should you have to spend your time out of game to find a group

Because you need to work to get what you want?
It doesn’t really takes much time to find group on gw2lfg during prime-time. But yeah you’re risk getting into a party with ragers\elitists\afkers etc etc.
And if you want to get a specific group that you want, well you have to spend time for it. Why not?
I hate the waiting too. I really do. It’s hard sometimes to wait, doing nothing, while we gather people for that arah p4 run. But it’s not something Anet or GW2 can fix. It’s a human issue and you need to respect that.

Other games allow you some leniency in dungeons or instances and the leader usually helps anyone who is new understand what is coming and what to do.

Not really.
Pugs are always all about speedrunning. That’s just a nature of things. You want to spend as little time as possible with unknown people who might ruin your dungeon run at any time.
Guilds are whole other thing. Guild parties mostly explain all the things and it’s even more easier if you have some voice chat options like TS. And it’s even easier to find parties if you join a big guild.

I’ve never done a speed run in Aion or FFXI in 4 years of play, nor have I ever had to youtube a guide on a dungeon or instance for any other game in over 10 years of mmo play.

And some instances in FFXI were 5-8 hours long.

I don’t think that you should imply that berating players new to dungeons is a phenomenon specific to GW2. Played in enough trashy pugs in WoW, both post and pre LFG queues, and a few other MMOs to be certain that its fairly ubiquitous across the genre.

That’s what happens when you roll the dice and form a group with a bunch of random people. There’s always the chance that you’re going to get grouped up with a bunch of jerks, and I don’t think you should be placing the blame on dungeon design or the state of the ingame LFG infrastructure for it.

I realize this is in other mmos as well, but because of the difficulty often people don’t even second glance new players and avoid them. Especially if they are not 80. Now take Aion for instance, the dungeons/instances were fairly straight forward (granted I sort of despise that game..) but you didn’t need to prepare or spend hours outside of game to learn the dungeon. After a few runs you understood them and could do fairly well and didn’t need epic gear either. But in GW2 you have these level 30 dungeons with ppl spamming that you need to be 80 and in X gear, or that they are glitching part 1 or 2 and only invite those who are ok with that. Why should exploiting be a common part of dungeons in a game? Something is clearly wrong, and yes it is in other games, but I’m playing this one.

There is a system they have that blocks from using the same card/account too much for various purchases. Sometimes the system works against regular people too and not just stolen cards and identity theft. You can email arenanet or chat with the staff, it is a problem I have run into too.

Wha..?

Really, too much overstatement in all of this. Never really had problems with getting into a group, especially gw2lfg – what griefing are you talking about?!

As for “cheesing, skipping and bugging”, well you have youtube with guides about every dungeon. Just spend a little time to learn a thing or two. I mean if you don’t respect people who you are doing dungeon with by being ignorant, why should they respect you.

Just because you haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. My wife looked for a party, once she got one and mentioned she had never done the dungeon they kicked her. Has happened to about 20 guild mates as well. Youtube guides are good, but why should people have to research the dungeon on youtube and guides just to enjoy them? Why can’t people simply run them and experience them and learn? Same thing goes for gw2lfg, why should you have to spend your time out of game to find a group or to do research. It makes no sense that you have to prepare for 45 minutes for a dungeon just to do one. you should be able to enter and adjust, and learn, not be one shotted and gear checked by elitists.

Other games allow you some leniency in dungeons or instances and the leader usually helps anyone who is new understand what is coming and what to do. Here you have silent parties and people just dpsing or glitching everything to get to the end. Not ok with it? They kick you.

Well now we have been on quite the long journey… Our minds are mush, our hearts shattered, and even if this only happens 3/5 times it is still too much.

Some problems I’ve noticed is that some bosses are so insanely annoying that they can simply 1 shot you if you mess up just once. Now in a trinity game this would be oh no big deal raise and continue. But this is GW2, and we do not have, nor do most of us wish to have a trinity. So it seems as though some of these dungeons need to be rescaled to player skill, or possibly even given easy/hard modes until players can adjust. The rewards of course being equal to difficulty as it should be. I think 1 shotting skills can be helpful so that berserker type builds learn to have to kite or pay attention more, but for those learning straight off or who are new are greatly discouraged by this.

Another problem is the fact that mostly 80’s do these dungeons. They are fully traited and in rare/exotic gear in order to have a decent advantage at them. And yet we see 80’s dying in level 30 dungeons even if they are traited as a tank style. This seems to make no sense to me, because if an 80 is getting killed with ease what hope does a level 30 in greens have of enjoying the dungeon? I think it is a detriment to the game that these dungeons have levels attached such as 30,40,50 etc, and yet no one wishes to do them unless you are 80. Even then, some people want to skip 90% of the dungeon for the reward because it is so insanely hard. I know I do not speak just for myself when I say some people out there would simply love to run a well done dungeon even if the reward was less than those who ran the harder version. Some people even run dungeons just because they are super fun to do with friends and help you experience the game.

But as you can see from the giant wall of text, a lot of work is needed to even get into that dungeon. And when you do your experience can quickly go downhill and push you away. Some dungeons like Fractals should be difficult, best in slot gear, varying stages, and many interesting boss types. But for the majority of your player base who are not 80 yet, have not mastered the dungeons yet, are getting discouraged by the amount of effort it takes to enjoy this large aspect of the game. I feel bad that I’ve heard so many (and I do mean many..) people say they were kicked because they were new, were kicked because they didn’t know the dungeon well, or because they weren’t some certain build. This could easily bring some players to tears depending on how harassed they get, or how horrible they feel.

Do you know when someone is in the highest sense of joy, perhaps the idea of playing gw2 for the first time and doing the first dungeon, that it only takes 1 adverse experience to bring them to the opposite of that scale? Tumbling down from excited to depressed and anxious, this is really not where we want our community. On the fringe of loving and hating the game, this does not bring anyone positive outcomes.

So this was my super long speech on dungeons and players in my experience so far in game. I’ve listed some issues and feedback on fixes, but the purpose of this was much broader. I want to know what the community thinks Arenanet can do that would fix the majority of these problems while encouraging people to do the dungeons. Your open letters to Arenanet staff on how we can solve this problem-how we can go about opening up dungeons to a broader audience. How we can do away with this griefing and dissatisfaction with a large aspect of gw2.

3. GW2lfg.com
4. Guilds

1. The LFG tool is very limited and does not allow for a global feature as many have suggested. It also does not cater to those who-
a. Are new and have never done dungeons
b. Are looking for a specific style of run
c. Are lower level

If you are new to dungeons chances are you may come across people who will kick you once they find out, people who will leave because they have to teach you. I think this is a great disadvantage to the game, and a disservice to those who recently joined GW2.

2. The /map shout function can fix the problems a,b,c because you can specifically mention what kind of run you would like. However, this also means you are spamming the chat channel in that area or in LA to get a party together. So with convenience and clarity, we cause commotion and map spam. In a place like LA tons fo things can be going on from chats about WvW and whats happening to random people talking about whatever, and then to those seeking groups or members. This all turns into one giant spam wall of text that really takes away from the game.

3. The 3rd party website known as gw2lfg.com removes problems a,b,c again by being clear on your intentions. It also removes spam from the /map screen, so in turn fixes problems with #2. This however leads people to grief players as this site is not owned or operated by Arenanet, and therefore much like the dragon timer website, can be taken advantage of. This third option is very limiting in the way that you have to tab out to use, and the posts often become filled before you can get the group you would like. A better chat based, or list based LFG tool in game would remedy this, but that is an entirely different discussion.

4. Guilds are a great place to find dungeon members. Hopefully the guild you are in is supportive and enjoys dungeon runs and for those who are new, they are willing to teach. This method is great but works in the opposite way of the other methods. Instead of random people joining up in the open world, now you have caused only select people in guilds to do dungeons together. This makes those few people less likely to help or join with other players outside of the guild.

So we have all those things going on, and this is just the beginning of your journey through a dungeon. As you can see, these steps themselves are a journey almost worthy of a story in their own right. But again, we have much further to go, as we haven’t even found a group yet.

Now the fun part. We have finally found a group and we know what we want to do. We take our full group and head to the dungeon and the time either directly before we enter, when we enter, or shortly after, becomes the make or break of our experience.
a. You mention that it is your first time and
i. You get kicked
ii. You get laughed at
iii. Everyone leaves
iv. The group decides to deal with it and move on

b. You are doing story mode and your gear isn’t all that great, on top of that you haven’t done this very many times and
i. You get kicked
ii. You get laughed at
iii. Everyone leaves
iv. The group decides to deal with it and move on

c. Ok now your past all that nonsense.. You heading through and the group mentions
i. We need to glitch this part to get past
ii. We need to get around this part to get past
iii. We are going to only do the easy path

d. So now you’re sweating a bit, a lot of work just to experience a story or explore mode. You get past that part one way or another and
i. You are at the end and the dungeon glitched and you cannot continue
ii. You are at the boss and everyone says we will stand in this safe spot or ported spot so we can’t die
iii. Everyone dies and leaves
iv. You die and get kicked

e. Well now no matter what happened it sure seems like a huge deal just to do one dungeon. You think to yourself “I’m either going to never do them again, or maybe just not play this game because I love dungeons and this is my focus.”

For the OP. We were getting off track talking about whether drop rates have declined or not, it’s irrelevant to the post.

So we should increase drop rates because he isn’t making money, and a few other people want to make more money? Okay, that sounds logical, I’ll email Arenanet right away.

Personally, I don’t care one way or the other. My only point (again) was that whether the drop rate has increased, decreased, or stay the same is irrelevant to whether the drop rates are optimal.

I don’t see how drop rates being increased is irrelevant to if they are optimal.

Drop rates were X before.
Drop rates are X+1 now.

So the only people who should be worried about if they are optimal is Arenanet, of which we have no control over. Who here is to say what your gold should buy, or mine, or anyone’s? They have an economist who tracks these things and makes sure that the overall goal is being reached. No one here can come up with that number as no one here has those tools and information. Optimal as you state it is based on opinion, the opinion coming from people who simply want it raised and have gathered no further information to support their view. Hence why there is no red tabs in this discussion, because there is no discussion, only a few peoples wish for entitlement.

Agreed – the drop rate has decreased a lot over the past few weeks. I’ve noticed it in many ways, from the loot from farming to the salvage rate of ectos. Game becoming a bit of a boring grind.

You covered the loot nerf thread, and the ecto nerf thread in one sentence. But kept it inside another thread, so thanks for that, those solo threads get annoying to read. Conspiracy’s need to be more interesting.

Whether drops are the same as they have always been or not. The OP’s point is the same. Consider increasing the drop rate, currently, it makes the game less fun.

For who? What will increasing do to people who make 10g a day or even 20? I’m sure John Smith could come in here and explain the economics behind bumping drop rates and its negative affects on the economy. So you are making more money, but now everything is more expensive. So you just did absolutely nothing by increasing drops. Same reason we don’t just make more money in the world, some people actually think to fix our debt we could just use our machines to print out more money and pay it off..

Give BRazilians their own server

Geotherma.2395

@Geotherma, I know lots of people like you and what you try to highlight, but as you already stated it’s not all brazilians that act or do things like that. Actually you’re bringing up a very disgusting stereotype that hopefully ArenaNet doesn’t agree with, there are thousands of people here who have respect for MMORPGs and because there were incidents in the past involving one country it doesn’t mean that should be extended to every other game released.

Not only in Brazil, but many countries have bad people who act in a childish nosense way and can bring bad things to the game (RMT’s don’t even exist here), if you generalize that behavior from one game to all the others then you’re taking it a bit too far.

I hope you change your mind, you might be missing out many friends and actually nice people.

Like I said I’m not against all of them, that would be stereotyping and wrong. The private servers consisted greatly of Brazilian and other players who hacked the game frequently. It isn’t on any specific race or country, but the majority of the ones that people complained about in Aion was the br population. Again, I don’t believe every person of any place is bad, but the private servers are who mostly came to Aion when it went free to play and ruined it. Those players were used to hacking and botting without consequence, so they brought that mentality to the game. And by those people I mean the scores of people who made up the private servers (who were from all around the world).

Another problem, though small but can become larger, is the language. Brazilian players often talk in their native language of which most others can’t understand. Many times in the other game they were talking bad about players or even Americans (I know this through friends who speak and understand the language). It created a barrier between the two, and since GW2 does not have auto translate like FFXI did, we cannot effectively communicate with them unless we know each others language.

I, like most players and people find it very rude for people to speak in another language around me. When the server clearly states US I believe the language in /map etc should be that of the majority. If they want to speak in their native tongue there is nothing wrong with whispering each other or talking in party. But in no way is it fun to do a dungeon run with 4 people who are talking the whole time in a language we can’t understand.

I have no problem talking to people who are only a little fluent in English, I even don’t mind helping teach them what we are saying or phrases that could help. This was a great feature in FFXI’s auto translate. But to just have long drawn out convos in /map or /party while leaving out other players feels wrong and a little rude.

I only got the game in December and really didn’t give it much thought in the beginning as it was the first MMO I’d ever played. However, once I decided to start making a bit of money, the gain at first was awesome (for me anyway). Made my first 100g fairly easily once I figured out what I needed to do. However, now it feels like there is no end in sight – I’ve been level 80 for a couple of months, I’ve got 100% map and I have 400 in every crafting discipline. Now I’m really just looking to buy up some nice items to mess with but it just seems to be a total slog fest now to get anything decent.
I love the game a lot and have enjoyed it immensely, but now I’m just bored – an Exotic drop once every two weeks just isn’t doing it for me.

at least you are getting exotic drops.

I have only gotten only ONE rare drop on Orr in my entire gaming life……

My recommendation for getting exotic drops is not using magic find gear but using zerker gear and running fotm with magic food. Always do the even numbers so you get the green boss thing. I forgot it’s name lol.

Magic gear doesn’t work in my opinion so avoid it.

I believe drops and quality are mostly based on damage numbers.

Misconception there, I do have zerker gear, including trinkets and all. The MF comes explicity from runes and gems.

Weird I have jatoro on 2 toons and yakkington’s on the other and neither show any effect at all unless magic find = porous bones.

I think MF = 2-3 porous bones to my 1 porous bone with no MF gear. I don’t think MF affects the quality just the quantity.

Specifically says and has been stated affects rarity, not quantity.

This was gonna be a really long text with some slighty angry tone, mixed with disappointment and frustration on how hard it is to make gold. Instead I will go straight to the point;

please increase drop rates, right now I feel t6 mats are an enormous gold/time sink for which I find no fun farming/spending money.

I dont mind spending money on the game since it is support it, but I would rather keep spending it on the pets and aesthetics than on 2 exotic staves which will be decimated on the mystic toilet. I would rather spend the little gold I make on items I want, rather than item that dont drop ever.

edit I have 7x% MF in between runes/trinkets, not counting the occasional omno bar . I dont have MF gear, I have zerker gear, the MF comes from the runes and the gems.

Sounds to me like they might need to check their code again. I remember a 5 month dry spell when they kept refusing to believe that there was anything at all wrong with loot and then they finally figured it out.

Meanwhile the damage had already been done to their credibility especially since a mod and a dev basically insulted much of the playerbase.

Just to clarify, the problem was players getting credit for kills. Not the loot itself being a problem. The Orr bag increase happened after this. Doing some fun research at the moment to see the drops in Orr and how they are doing. Those who know me know I won’t stop till I’m sure :P

You know as soon as you start getting rares again from the hidden chests all throughout the maps like what was happening the first month after launch then you can tell me about this being the only problem. Yeah I have a long memory and I used to get rares from chests when I first started playing. In fact I would go around and search for these things manually (because at the time there were no online maps yet) and find these chests kill or trick the Champion guarding them get the treasure and leave. It was awesome to finally be in a game where you could actually find loot that wasn’t deflated artificially, until November.

So you see, it’s not just a “credit” issue, but you’ll just keep on believing it won’t you.

There are two massive threads (mostly hidden now) that attest to the contrary of what you believe btw, most of those players are probably gone by now because it wasn’t worth the time to try to pick up pennies in order to get enough silver to make a gold which is how this economy works now. There’s challenge and then there’s a second virtual job.

Conspiracy’s are conspiracy’s. People are welcome to believe what they wish, my drops are the same as they always have been. I was in that giant thread doing research unlike the people who just complained with no facts to back it up. In fact I was the person who first recorded the champs not dropping loot, recorded the champs dropping chests with less than rare. So I do also have a good memory when it comes to this sort of conspiracy theorist threads. There is no problem with drops other than RNG not being on your side at times. If you work hard you get reward, heck even if you don’t you get reward (maw).

Anecdotal evidence this month shows me that I got 5 exotics instead of the 0-1 I usually get. So clearly drops have increased and anet secretly increased them, or possibly did it just for me. Because that is exactly how MMO companies stay afloat is manipulating the economy in evil evil ways to spoil the fun for everyone, again, except me because I’m somehow special. /sarcasm

As far as the random little chests, most of them can be duped. Thiefs can hide and open, or u can get around them somehow. So why on earth would they make these drop rares or amazing things? Seriously with 1 click I can get at least 2 of those chests you speak of in Orr without ever having to fight anyone. How is that fair to people who do fight them? So yes, when I get blues and greens from them I don’t feel bad. Because it took little to no effort to do so. Alternatively event farming has become a bit more challenging, which I greatly appreciate. Because although before I could get just as much gold per hour, it was brain numbing.. boring.. and not the least bit challenging. Now I have to pay attention on my glass armor thief, I have to dodge and help kill the champs. It is fun and challenging, and that is exactly the reason they did it.

I’m working (again..) on some large samples of farming and drops to see what the average is. So far it is not a noticeable negative difference. And if anything it has improved, and now when I do this it is much more fun and rewarding.

IMO, Gem Prices need to be regulated

in Black Lion Trading Co

What’s personally ticking me off is the HUGE difference between the sell price and the buy price for gems.

Average price to buy 100 gems: 2g 89s
Average price you get for 100 gems: 2g 14s

Where does that 75s go? Is it transaction costs? That means an almost 26% procent difference. That’s 12, yes, 12!!!!! TIMES AS MUCH AS ON THE ACTUAL FREAKING REAL LIFE STOCK MARKET.

It’s ridiculous. I know they want to make a profit by taking gold out of the economy. Personally I think it’s discouraging people from buying gems with real money and selling it for gold as well. Especially since they know they’re only going to get 75% of the actual value.

If it wasn’t like this people would be transferring gems and playing the gem>gold/gold>gem market. Currently someone can not just sit in the game and transfer back and forth to make millions of gold or gems because of the loss from gold > gems. Which is a very good thing.

And the bolded part, who says they are only getting 75% of their value? How much is gold virtual currency worth in real life? If I head to the gas station and pay in GW2 gold, how much will it cost? Yea.. That doesn’t work. So the “worth” is your opinion. No one here can say what mine or your 1$ is worth in gems, or on gold, because it is an in game economy and always changing. But to clearly spell it out your 1$ is worth nothing in game, not a single penny. Because once that dollar goes in, it never becomes real tangible funds again.

With your view of how the exchange rate should work, I should be able to take my USD and go to any country and it should be worth the same. 1$=1euro, 1$=1pound. Not going to happen.

When I bought Gw2 Anet stated that only NA and maybe Euro players would be able to play on the “American” servers.

You guys went against your word and opened the servers up to other countries.

Lets recap on what happened to the League of Legends community upon opening their servers to Brazilians. The community went downhill and players were not able to properly communicate with each other.

Please give Brazilians their own servers, but allow them to play in the NA region for WvW.
They have delays on the NA server making them semi handicap in WvW.

So three older players have worked out scams to make money, the rest of the population has not, so obviously there is no issue with loot drops because three players “that have had insane luck and time to amass wealth” say there isn’t a problem for the rest of the populations, i beg to differ…

And if your way of making 80-100g is so genuine please inform the rest of the population how to do it, if not i must conclude your onto some scam..

An option to disable right click targeting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

I never saw your mouse cursor come up so I’m assuing you held the right button down the whole time. So you aren’t going to have the problem. I have stuff mapped to the scroll wheel and middle buttons, and it feels awkward to use three fingers on the mouse. I like to use the mouse to target when there is a large cluster of targets and there is a priority target. It is faster IMO than tabbing through the targets. Because of this I end up adjusting the camera frequently with a short click and release. To me this is a very basic request. It is like hardcoding the qweasd keys and expecting people to like that decision.

I’ve actually never had this problem. I’m curious exactly how others are moving around tyria (genuinely, not being sarcastic). I hold my right mouse click to turn as I’m running around, but use tab to target different mobs. Can someone give me an example of where this is a problem? Seriously, I just haven’t noticed I guess and am just curious.

Again I don’t know if this is the type of scenario people are talking about, but this is just a normal boring run of the Jofast event. Not my best super run or anything lol but just playing casually and looking for mobs. If anyone can point out a part or segment where the right click problem is please do so. If this scenario isn’t what people are talking about, maybe someone can give me a different example I might know or something.

http://youtu.be/53NPyLQmVt8
The time I posted this was still uploading so may take 10 minutes or so.

Sorry, fraps option for mouse is disabled. I only hold down when I want to move the camera, otherwise I am just moving with my keyboard and adjust as I play. If I am in a situation where I need to keep running and use a skill I hold down both mice buttons (left/right) to run and tap a skill that won’t stop me and hinder my mobility.

I’ve gotten more exotic drops this month (about 4-5) than the last 3 months. Bag drops in Orr were increased, but lazy people ran away because you can no longer afk farm everything. I run with 30% MF usually, and try to get to the major boss events when I can. I have 11 characters but generally only get to 1-2 bosses a day. On average I can make between 60-80+g a week farming for a few hours a day. Some part of that goes to making MF food, supporting my guilds influence, and spending on events I host very often on my server. About 5g actually gets used on something useful, the rest goes to events and whatnot. I don’t like holding onto my gold I guess :P But I also don’t give it away ^^

I think the average player should be able to make 1-5g/hr with a little effort. So if you play for say 2 hours a day and 5 days a week thats 10-50g a week. Seems pretty fair. (At 80 of course)

Players with more time to spare say 4 hours a day could be making 4-20g a day or 20-100g a week. Now increase loot drops for everyone, and you can see the dilemma.

^^This is one that did a lot of research in Orr and about Magic Find.
I want your account.
I never did ask if you played a warrior or whether you are geared/traited for DPS or not. If I did then I attribute my loss of memory to age.

Lol people tell me I’m a good luck charm. When others ask me to party in Orr or an event, they always seem to get better loot. Granted it is probably just superstition and luck, but I don’t mind being peoples rabbit foot :P

I started way back with my warrior who was full dps and axe/axe. She eventually got an insane amount of MF 230%? and was my farming queen. But then I leveled my thief which I currently use, and have been in some of those pics/vids you mention. I love the short bow and the fact that it pings other mobs, as well as the aoe skills. I won’t lie I do spend a lot of money on those side pets, of course they aren’t uber farming helpers, but its funny to have my thieves guild out, and ember, and a ogre pet. Even if their damage is negligible, and they die in a few hits, always fun to have as many pets as a necro on my thief :P(I never used these pets while doing the MF testing)

For me 30% is a lucky number. It isn’t 0 and it isn’t 300. If you use the exact same MF all the time, you start to know when things are not going well, and you can adjust. I know how many porous bones I should be getting if I’m tagging well, I know how many bags I should be getting if I’m not overdoing events. People don’t need to find the secret gear set or trait set for every class, because there isn’t one as far as farming. They simply need to find what makes them most comfortable while farming, what is fun, what is efficient. Blend them together until you are happy. And like I said, for me having those cute pets out (even at a cost loss) is fun while I farm and I still make money. I gladly put up banners and food for people when I can, which is pretty much every day.. But people have to do the work themselves too. You don’t get rich or make good money by running away from a challenge.

Oh and PS- I call my thief build the glass vampire, see if you can figure that out :P

An option to disable right click targeting

To me, the point is it is easier to get a replica of a toddlers colorful plushie backpack than it is to get something remotely fitting to the game and a character.

That being said, if it is so easy just do it yourself, make thousand a day through TP. Why bother to complain.

I never said it was easy, and even if it was, I wouldn’t do it. It’s not something that I enjoy. You’re missing the point of the thread: I’m not saying omfg QQ no one ever play the TP again, I’m saying how is it a problem if I can farm (let’s say) 10g an hour and that’s a bad bad horrible thing and Anet must nerf it immediately, when someone can sit in Lion’s Arch and not move a stop and make 1000 times more than what I make? It’s not like there’s an obscenely higher amount of effort made between the two, but one’s horrible and the other isn’t. It’s like let’s make the rich richer and the poor poorer kind of thing

But I think that is from your perspective. Kind of like saying why can a film maker make millions from just making a movie, when construction workers and police are risking their lives and health and working hard to make far less. Both take skill, a different set of skills. If the construction worker could make movies I’m sure they might, or maybe they love the job. And if the film maker had no luck he could do something less enjoyable, but would require more work and probably less pay.

A TP player has to know numbers, and pay attention to how the economy works. That is a skill and work in itself. A farmer has to know which events and times are profitable as well as know how to farm effectively.

I don’t personally play the market, I’m more of a grind and kill stuff kind of person. But I don’t hate the stock brokers sitting in a cubical making millions, because they earned their skills just like I did. We just took different paths.

I farm(a lot..), this post confuses me as I do not feel disadvantaged while playing?

It’s not about feeling disadvantaged, not really. I enjoy farming, and it’s fun for me, and i make money at my own pace. People play the trading post, and that’s fine, they also make more money than me. I’m talking about how Anet nerfs everything that’s even remotely farmable.

Can you be more specific?

Plinx got a huge nerf a while back,
The camp trio karma train in Cursed Shore spawns less mobs and gives less loot than it used to
The mobs at jormag used to drop loot, not it’s absolutely kitten.

There’s a few other events, I’m sure, that I’ve missed, but it’s also well known that Anet is highly against that kind of “don’t think just farm” mentality that a lot of players are actually comfortable with.

It’s kind of like I work my kitten of at a minimum wage job just for them to decrease the minimum wage later on.

But they increased bag drops in orr, and I haven’t really noticed necessarily a reduced amount of mobs at those waypoints. Only that they now scale better, in making them not so easy to afk farm basically. I still make the same or more than I did before patch. I just have to work harder now.

Why this has no backstory/post-story lol.. I found it running around on an alt, and now my brain is racked with what happened before this and after this.

To give a mental image while you watch:

I run up and see a bear and a woman cowering. I attempt to get the bears attention (yea I know..), and then attack the bear. I save her and she cheers, then sits down and has a forlorn look on her face. Then the thought occurred to me-what happened? Is she sad? Did someone die? Did the bear eat her fiance? Is the bear her fiance who lost his memory like in “Brave”? Someone save me, arenanet give this woman story so I can go on with my life! Thanks :P
