I really liked the Super Adventure Box, the new one however I don’t like at all. AT. ALL.
Play it on “logan mode” :P
But you are getting something others outside of the fractals cannot. (Well as far as dungeon wise) You get ascended gear, those farming Orr or Dungeons or events are getting gold. You cannot buy ascended with gold. So you in a sense are getting better loot than them. It just has a different value.
You can buy ascended rings with 35 laurels. It’s only the back item which is proper to fractals, and you must “farm” fractals to make one.
The loot is better in stat but he’s not interesting for “fractals farmer”, mainly for those who tries high levels fractals (40+ i think). You are not rewarded for the difficulty, you do not drop automatically a ring. I have already made some fractals which gave me only one gold and nothing else ….
But aren’t a ton of threads complaining about having 20,30,40 rings? Overall it seems they drop decent enough. But I will say I don’t do them, so I’m genuinely curious about the rewards. I know someone who reached level 80 fractals, but said after the patch it was nearly impossible to do.
Just an idea : Can’t we have a rare for each boss defeating in fractal like it appears when you have done a world event ? It can be limited to one gold per location per account per day at minimum level 10 ?
As well, fractals bosses are more difficult lvl 10 than the fire elemental, the behemot and other ones And when you killed a fractal boss, you drop a great chest, and you have not automatically a rare…
Strange isn’t it ?
But you are getting something others outside of the fractals cannot. (Well as far as dungeon wise) You get ascended gear, those farming Orr or Dungeons or events are getting gold. You cannot buy ascended with gold. So you in a sense are getting better loot than them. It just has a different value.
Summary~
Your Points:
1.“Why is Arenanet wasting resources on this? → https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/presenting-the-rytlocks-critter-rampage-game/”
A. They didn’t it was voluntary and required no resources of arenanet on paid time.
2.“The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game.”
A.No it could not, because-
i. Was not on company time
ii. Was not done by the person who fixes bugs or adds things to the game
3."Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time "
A. It created fun for a majority of players and even created revenue through gem store. Waste of time is your opinion, and while is allowed, is misdirected.
4.“when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria.”
A. Again, not the same people. Also, they do use their time to do so and they have people to do the managerial work for them, you are not one of these people.
5.“Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!”
A. Although i believe these people who did sab might be able to do this, again, not their job/not that team.
6.“Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.”
A. And this.. Well.. It was an April fools joke that gave a lot of happiness to many people and cash to support the game, which is needed for the content you speak of. So in essence, they DID create something to further the story. It is called revenue.
This concludes yet another drawn out thread that could have been answered/avoided in the first place had some serious thought been put into the worries of the player. I hope everyone has learned something here today.
I am talking about SAB not Frost and Flame. It does not fit in the context of the storyline. Frost and Flame fits into the lore, but not SAB.
Because every little square inch of the game must fit the lore, or else it’s a waste of time.
Just because you don’t like the content does not mean it’s a “waste of time”. As far as I know, moving a little out of the way with SAB is actually helping the game, not hurting it. As far as “wasting time and resources” is concerned, I don’t think it is given that the critical reception for SAB has been overwhelmingly positive.
I did not say I don’t like the content!!! I LOVE IT.
I only say it doesn’t FIT into the game! Hence the wasting resources and time on it! If I had hated the game, I would have been even more negative. The only thing I was negative about is not about how the devs did it in their free time or not what they did after work.
It is they put something out of context in the storyline that does not fit into the lore they are creating! Past, Present or Future!!!
Ok so since all your first points were moot now, the final point seems to be that the lore they created is not what you want it to be. So you are saying that you should be the one to decide what lore is and is not? I think you just explained the whole point of this thread.
You can also look at changes like Orr, where they increased the scaling for events. They require much more effort now, of which most “skilled” and “hardcore” gamers complained about. Meanwhile i prefer it this way, no fun in standing at the game slamming ur “1” key for loot. I’m sure more of this will be implemented in the future, and possibly entire changes to some boss styles. If it is money you are after it is a matter of time and knowledge of “what” to do that will get you the gold. Fractals is something people do for skill, or challenge. Reward is secondary, and the prestige of those rewards is scaled with the difficulty. In world pve, you are simply hunting down ways to make gold or have a good time. Different aspects, different play styles, different people.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
To the OP, the problem is this game is designed for casuals and carebears. That being said, most of them don’t have the will or the patience to do dungeons, but still want to get the same rewards. So, instead of taking a firm stance on allowing good players to get the best loot, ANet decided that skill shouldn’t be a part of your ability to get good loot.
In fact, they made it so the some of the best chests in the game drop from world bosses which are total zerg fests and take no skill at all.
I love how you use the word “care bears” with thinly veiled contempt. Because it’s much better to be a hard core elitist, than a person who plays games for fun.
I’m a care bear…and proud of it.
ignoring both sides of this
why would you be proud of having a casual hobby? did you really feel the need to go there, to that defense? really? come on.
I’m casual, and yet i make more gold a day than most hard core gamers. Some people have a casual photography hobby, in which they can make $1500 a month doing what they love as a pastime, while having a totally different career.
And I don’t think the game was designed for casuals, I think it was designed with many aspects in mind. As such, it continues to grow and meet the ever changing player base, which I think is pretty much the core of a good MMO company.
Why is Arenanet wasting resources on this? -> https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/presenting-the-rytlocks-critter-rampage-game/
The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game. Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria. Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!
Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.
There’s always an ungrateful pup in the mixed. Just because you think it a waste, Anet didn’t and neither did the players who enjoyed it.
I am not ungrateful. I only asked why they wasted resources and time on it. If I am ungrateful, I would have phrased my post differently and most swearing or kittens..etc.
And I did not say dislike it SAB or the flash game. In fact, I love it (SAB), had a great time running around with other pugs but that is another matter altogether.
Then it wasn’t really a waste then was it. Your “fun” was the reward. So if time invested =fun, I’m missing the point of this entire thread. Unless your saying they wasted time on making something you enjoyed. Which, well, makes this all very confusing.
Because it is not relevant to the context of the storyline. Had they posted something like the Mad King or Winsterdays which are actually LORES in the world of Tyria, then it would had not been a problem, but it make no sense for SAB.
Yes, I have fun with SAB, but that is another matter for me.
they created both games, yes? They introduced both Wintersday and Mad King in Guild Wars 1, yes? Before that what was Wintersday and Mad King? It didn’t exist. They created lore. Because it’s their world, they are free to create lore again. That’s what they did.
^gets it.
I think some people have serious tunnel vision, or do not understand the concept of past, present, future. Unless your Einstein and don’t believe in that sort of thing, and think they are all interconnected. In which case, the point still stands either way.
The point people are trying to get through to you is:
You can create lore. you can do it TODAY. It can be lore tomorrow, or 1000 years from now. The concept of Time seems to elude you.
I am talking about SAB not Frost and Flame. It does not fit in the context of the storyline. Frost and Flame fits into the lore, but not SAB.
Whos storyline? Yours? the story is “living”, evolving. How can you say that it is not part of the story or lore? Because it has no relevance in the past? What was the past when it was the present? At that point in time would you argue that , that very moment wasn’t part of lore because it hadn’t happened yet?

But you are missing something here. Lore is history yes? Who says history is not written every moment of every day? Why can there not be new history written in a game that boasts about “Living Story” that continues to advance? Are you saying the flame and frost living story is not lore? because the moment it entered tyria it became lore to the game. It will from now on be concidered part of the history of the game. Will you go into GW3 (just an example) and complain when they add something different, in that it wasn’t based off lore like something Flame and frost was? Not everything is nailed down to lore, and not all lore is stuff created by a story book.
Lore-
1.Accumulated facts, traditions, or beliefs about a particular subject. See Synonyms at knowledge.
2. Knowledge acquired through education or experience.
3. Archaic Material taught or learned.
Finally, what would you call a lore like a haunted house? What was that house before being haunted and becoming lore to that region or in history? Just a house. One day something happened, and from that day on it became lore. Who’s to say what your seeing isn’t exactly the same concept.

Telling Anet to stop “wasting resources and time” and citing a project that was done entirely in someone’s spare time for it is, yes, dictating what people should be doing with themselves and is extremely entitled of you to say.
How are we defining relevance? Relation to the Living Story? That’s a new thing, what was relevant before? How do we define the relevance of the other holiday events? Relation to the Personal story? That’s pre-every GW2 event that has happened since. Relevance to the people working on it? It’s a holiday event, it’s totally relevant for the holiday people to work on it (in fact, they have been added to the Living Story team now, so they’re even going to get to add new content to the world outside of events like SAB! Aren’t you excited).
I am failing to see how SAB, something that actually used Anet resources, is “irrelevant”, except maybe irrelevant just because you don’t like it.
Wintersday and The Mad King are all lores in the world of Tyria right?
SAB is?
Asura inventing a training device for people to use for honing skills without the penalty of death. It is an educational device created by Moto.
Or what Vayne said :P
Or if you want to remove it from context completely, it is a April fools joke adapted into actual content instead of just a visual trick.
Also Arenanet continues to create innovating things for GW2, in doing so trying new and interesting things. By trial and error they are opening new doors to other MMO’s to see what can actually work in the genre. Whereas other companies stick to the cookie cutter kind of design, and don’t take risks.

I have 21 pages.. I can see a point here.
Lol people shouldn’t “need” to convert gems to gold. It isn’t that hard to earn
Well, since most people seem to make gold in-game by ‘flipping’ items on TP and price-gouging, rather than actually doing something positive then I’ll pass on that, thanks.
I don’t I work for mine, no TP flipping here :P
It is funny how some people think 5 guys work in a dark room balancing, coding, creating, and those same guys stopped all that to make a mini-game…
Like in sports some teams are effective and some are not. A lot of the success has to with how the resources are managed. The fact that porting to OSX-10 is part of the duties of the people that optimize game performance, and the fact that they had people programing a 16-bit game engine leads me to think Anet doesn’t think there are any performance issues with the game. I strongly disagree.
Looking at the list you posted this is my impression of the teams effectiveness:
Live security — B+
—A Live Security squad will smack bots, spammers and account thieves
Bots have been an issue, but I have seen a marked decrease since the beginning of the game.Live response — C+
—Response crew will focus on fixing bugs, balancing and answering feedback.
There are some posts on the forums, but there a quite a few old threads that don’t have an updates. Follow ups such as we don’t think this is an issue, and this is why… We are planning to incorporate this but not in the near future… would be appreciated. As far as balancing I would say that there is quite a bit of polishing on the classes to be done — cough ranger petsPvP/E-Sports — C
—a dedicated PvE or eSports cabal will develop Guild wars 2’s competitive side.
sPvP nuff said.Holidays and events — B+
—A Holidays and Events posse is already hard at work on tan upcoming celebration (likely Halloween) as well as being responsible for world events
The changes to daily/monthlies and world events have put more people in zones that used to be ghost towns. This makes playing the plot line through more enjoyable as there are more people to do events with as you level. The glitchy execution of the one time only event brought the grade down.Mac and performance — D+
—focusing on building an OS-X client and improving the existing PC version.
Camera and targeting need some serious polishing. Camera is still bad near walls. Most other games when you move your mouse faster it accelerates the turning here it slows it down making it feel sluggish. For the love of god allow me to turn off right click targeting! Using combo finishers with groups is very difficult to execute. Most of these issues were noted in beta or early launch and still no updates. I’m assuming there is a working MAC client otherwise an F.Bonus teams — Incomplete. not clear what they have done so no grade.
Commerce — A
—the Commerce company is led by an economist and will keep a close eye on the Black Lion Trading Company.
Would be A+ if you could filter armor by light/medium/heavy. Other than that they nailed it. There is good transparency of quantity and buy/sell prices and you don’t have to play the auction sniping game to buy stuff. The economy has plenty of gold sinks in it and for the most part material/gem prices are stable.
I believe it said that bonus teams are people who are moved to various areas to help on projects other teams are working on. Like “extras”? I could be wrong.
I understand some peoples hatred of these old style games, your entitled to your opinion. But personally I want my son to know in 10 years what a cassette was, what a sega genesis was, original computers taking up entire rooms. It is part of our history just as much as presidents, wars, or heck even Twinkies… Younger people these days lose appreciation for what they have because it is the “beginning” to them. They started off with a PS3 or a flat screen. Most of them don’t know that we used to need 5 or 6 people to help us move our living room TV to a new house or apartment. Or that you had to blow in the NES cartridge to get it to work half the time. Taking time to teach the history of where things came from says a lot about us as parents, as educators, as designers. We bring back to the world what many have lost or never experienced. And for that I’m thankful to the devs for giving us a piece of history that so many forgot. Before fancy 3d images, before you were complaining the blood spatter doesn’t look real enough, and before we were role playing characters so real we sometimes forget we are playing a game at all. They all came from a more humble beginning, and I think that is important to remember.
As far as I can tell a cinematics person volunteered to do this for everyone. I highly doubt someone of that caliber needed much time to make this little game, and that it took nothing away from GW2. People really need to lighten up, and heck this time it isn’t even in the game. So it is entirely avoidable for those who can’t appreciate others work, or just do not like the game.
I think the reason they did it outside is because there is less work to develop it inside. Web games are pretty easy, but converting a game like this inside an MMo is some work ^^
That one guy could’ve created another expansion pack
Lol, I’d love to see one guy all by himself program an expansion pack worth of content. He would deserve a serious award.
Sorry about making another thread about this.
And no, about me wanting what I want, I would have said so clearly. Like I want my Ele to be OP NOW. For example. Or I want all thieves to be less OP NOW. Another example.
This is about why adding content that is not relevant to the storyline or even the game. Sure, it is to showcase the Asuran’s technology or what not, but it is not necessary. Why don’t they just add more stuff to the Molten Alliance storyline? More DEs for the Molten Alliance? Like them mounting a siege on Hoelbrak or the Black Citadel? Or their fierce unknown leader reveals itself in a brief moment to warn the Norn’s and the Charr’s they are next on the extinction list.
Or Divinity’s Reach gets some unexpecting visitor’s where the Queen is given an ultimatum to surrender or see Divinity’s Reach burned to the ground. Or the Sylvari’s Mother Tree got attack and is injured. Or the Asuran’s High Council got wiped out in a surprised attack…etc FOR EXAMPLE.Instead, we get them attacking small village, guarding portals that are not even near a city or town, eavesdropping with no apparent motive except for us players to collect audio logs for the Monthly achievements.
Braham’s and Rox’s storyline is awesome, with Braham’s having the best storyline so far. They should waste their time on these storylines. As for add new content being things that I want, are you sure you all don’t want new content? Like a new dragon and stuff? Aren’t those also things some of you all want? Fixing bugs? isn’t this everyone wants Arenanet to address all the time? How come it becomes things that I want?
Like I said, if I want something I want, I will say it clearly. Like Elementalist should stopped being nerf to kingdom come! or thieves should stop being given preferential treatment, i want the AoE 5 person limit to be lifted, or I want staff ele to get a boost in damage or shorten cooldowns…etc for example.
Again, I think you missed the posts about the very few people working for very little time on these things. They did not pull the bug, wvw, pve guys from their jobs to create these.
Omg again. Do you people even read the other threads before wasting space?
Here I’m not reposting all this
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/The-mini-games-aren-t-funny/first#post1863458
You seriously think time was taken away from all the core things to do these.. Geez.. And that new game was even less involved, I bet they did it on a weekend in their spare time. Web based games fro someone like them are probably something they could do in their sleep.
I love it
! waiting for the other two to come out ^~^ !!! Hurry please

worth 10 dollar! one cup of soup cost around that -_-
10 bucks is not a lot if you are playing gw2 everyday…
Thats some kitten good soup for 10 bucks :P Does it get you drunk? :P
It is funny how some people think 5 guys work in a dark room balancing, coding, creating, and those same guys stopped all that to make a mini-game.. Seriously people do some research. They are called teams, and the people doing SAB etc are the same team who do jumping puzzles and some spare people from Living story (I think).
Here is the core team:
The Super Adventure Box team, from left to right:
Daniel White is our programming magician. He gave us the power to swap out the UI, upgraded the missile code and combat system to get us that old school combat mechanic feel, and got our physics to work with wacky things like bounce mushrooms.
Lisa Davis is the one who brought everything together and made it go. She scripted all the creatures, skills, secrets, and figured out how to make it all work in one coherent whole. A truly magnificent feat!
Jeff Weber was our primary prop and creature artist. He built most of the walls, rocks, clouds, critters, and pretty much everything you see in SAB.
James Smith is our producer extraordinaire who somehow managed to heard all us cats in the same direction. Apparently we wore him out so he couldn’t make it for the picture. Photoshop to the rescue!
Josh Foreman built the maps and coordinated the project.
Trevor Howell brought all our boxy creatures to life with style. He also had to learn to breakdance before animating the spiders.
Jason Wiggin built the Super Adventure Box that sits in Rata Sum, made our weapon skins and the in-game items like the candle, bomb, pointy stick, etc., and the beautiful dancing flowers.
Byron Miller is our principal QA guy (or Secretsfindah) but most importantly, came up with the idea of the bee dog.
But we had a LOT of help from Maclaine Diemer and Leif Chappelle for music (Lief contributed weekends and evenings because he’s a designer here, not a musician) Jerry Schroeder and Drew Cady making our sound effects and environment sounds. Our effects team: Jens Hauch, Paul Whitehead, Patrick Axlen, Daniel Henley, James Showecker, Lee Bledsoe (Our whole FX department wanted in on the action!) Dave Beetlestone is our environment art lead and helped up navigate the fine line between retro and ugly.
And Peter Fries did our editing and wrote the best shopkeeper line: “I see now that all my hording has brought me only sadness.”
“The full list is:
Live security
Live response
PvP/E-Sports
Holidays and events
Mac and performance
Bonus teams
Commerce"
“A Live Security squad will smack bots, spammers and account thieves, while a Live Response crew will focus on fixing bugs, balancing and answering feedback.
The Living World team is responsible for new content, while a dedicated PvE or eSports cabal will develop Guild wars 2?s competitive side.
A Holidays and Events posse is already hard at work on tan upcoming celebration (likely Halloween) as well as being responsible for world events, and techy types have been coralled off as Mac and Performance, focusing on building an OS-X client and improving the existing PC version.
Finally, the Commerce company is led by an economist and will keep a close eye on the Black Lion Trading Company.
Interestingly, in addition to these seven defined teams, ArenaNet will sometimes throw up what it calls bonus teams, to work on special features and events; the first product of a bonus team is due in November."
If any of the above has changed, I’m sure a red box will reply and fix it :P

People complain that the gem price is too high. But where were those people when prices were “reasonable”? :|
I was complaining about prices being too low. Converting gems to gold wasn’t really worth it until now.
It’s still ridiculous. $50 for 100g? Should be $20 for 100g at absolute most.
Lol people shouldn’t “need” to convert gems to gold. It isn’t that hard to earn, and I just don’t see the appeal. Granted some people may have come from games where RMT’ing was rampant and GW2 allows it legally, but still, just seems pointless. But people are free to spend how they like, but I’d rather spend my gems on gem items as I can just make far more in game faster to the point where I never need to transfer.
Happenenz right noww!
iv been getting this the past few days also contacted my card company and they havent seen any attempts at all on their side. tried purchasing from a store down the road worked fine so its most likely on anets side.
Usually it is. They (Arenanet/NCSOFT) have measures in place to reduce credit card fraud and information theft. Sometimes it affects normal people for various reasons. You can email support to see what the reason your specific card did not work was, or use paypal or a game store that sells Gem Cards.
I recommend gaming stores that offer rewards like discount coupons which can save you money over time. For instance Gamestop Power up rewards (just an example), got to the point where I could get a gem card 1200 gems for $6 instead of $15. Because I used my points to get a $10 of coupon.
If paypal, credit card, prepaid card don’t work or there is no Gem Cards in your local retailer email Arenanet and I’m sure they will do their best to help.
A time you may be locked by your credit card company is if you make too many purchases too fast or in various locations. That is a red flag to your bank, and they may lock your card. This situation would require you to call your bank/credit card company to resolve.
At 9pm EST on Northern Shiverpeaks Server, I will be putting down:
Banners-
XP 5% Buff
MF 10% Buff
Gathering 10% Buff
Karma 5% Buff
Communal Boost Magic Find Bonfire 50% Magic Find Buff
Super Adventure Box o’ Fun-Random assortment of fun stuff in 8bit
Box o’ Fun- random assortment of fun stuff from the original box o’ fun
And more trays and feasts than an entire army could eat.
Hope to see new people there as well as regular players
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
I was wondering for the people that bought the picks, were you aware you can use your karma to buy Orichalcum picks? Or was it more of the convenience factor not have to ever be troubled with running out again.
I bet they add sickles and axes too eventually.
But they take up space. Someone like me who carries 3 sets of each so i don’t have to WP all the time, find these unlimited items priceless. The molten pick takes 0 spaces, as it is equipped and not using up my precious inventory :P
No, there is no ‘reset’, you are experiencing RNG (alimo)
maybe anet would be willing to remove any doubt by standing up and being transparent about their policies instead of being afraid of telling us what they are.The DR policy is, at least in part, there to thwart bots and gold sellers who farm. It prevents them from farming the same thing over and over.
If you become transparent, all you’re really doing it telling them how to design better bots.
If that’s the case it’s ridiculously lazy and heavy handed of them. Why implement a device that effects everyone but because of that is no deterrent to the bot? Bots were always going to exist, they always do so all that DR does is make the value of the items that the bots are farming higher.
Also why make the most desirable items, the legendaries, a massive farm fest if you have also implemented a system to deter farming? It would have been far better for ANet to be more creative in identifying the bots and removing them than a non-system like DR.
It affects regular players less, if at all. And is much less problematic than people think. I could give a hundred examples on how to avoid it but that would only help bots and RMT, so I refuse to do that. People who farm areas regularly simply know at some point they need to do something else to switch up. And this generally is what players do anyway “naturally”. There are many variables to how it works, but again, no point in helping people bot/rmt.
Your point may be true, but it does not address the reason for DR to exist. If its to stop botters then it doesn’t, the only time i have noticed a decrease in their numbers was after the last purge. I can think of three things will stop them, banning their accounts so fast the process of farming is impossible, removing all methods of gold transfer or removing the market for the gold. Having DR does nothing to remove the botters, it just necessitates a change in behavior on their part, at best its an inconvenience to them. Remember they have access to a great many likely hacked accounts, and have to put little or no effort into the actual farming.
Also Anet keep the mechanics of DR under their hats as they don’t want to give away anything to the botters, the only way to see it is in the effects on drops. Who do you think has best access reliable, repeatable and consistent farming results? Who has most to gain from understanding DR?
So we are in the ironic situation where DR is in place to deter botters, but they would likely have the best knowledge of anyone on when it kicks in and how to avoid it. It does not stop them, only direct action from Anet does that which also has nothing to do with DR.
So whats the point in DR as it only effects real players?
I still think this isn’t 100% true. I believe it makes botters work harder to avoid this. In doing so slowing down the average program from working at full potential. Yes there are programs/bots that probably are coded better to deal with it, but I’m sure not every baddie uses the same one. In the meantime they (Arenanet) find the botters while they can, ban them and those who may have dealt with them in an RMT way. Sooner or later they will find a fix for the teleporting and regular bots. But all in all how much RMt spam do you see in this game? Compared to Aion/WoW etc. So they are already ahead of the largest problem. Giving them more time to work on fixes for bots, which are really all thats left besides hacking. I think the B2P model really helped with this as well. Big losses to someone who gets caught, probably far more than they earned.
I would also say that legitimate farmers also know ways around DR and do not share them with bots. As the bots are actually hurting the economy by mass selling at low prices at times. Thus driving down our worth when we work hard for those drops. If it was simple enough to just ban all bots instantly every MMO would have figured it out already. I compare bots/rmt to viruses online. A company has a loophole and hackers find it and get in or send trojans. Company repairs the hole and now the hackers have to find something else to get in. DR is Arenanets step 1 to closing that gap. There is no doubt in my mind they are already working on step 2, 3, 4. Just as RMT/Botters are working on them. Hence the great need in the world for Information Security Specialists. And why they get paid so much :P
It’s amazing you actually can buy one at all and anet haven’t put it up as a ‘pick pack’ that costs 500 gems and gives you a small chance of getting one. It offers no ingame advantages so I am basically completely opinionless about its existence, I don’t even mine ore lol.
Anet adding all this crap causes the gem price to spike though, which is gonna hit them hard as people wont be buying other store items/gems via gold.
They need to be careful.
Yes, before they make too much money and become their own company and not a part of……… I’ll just stop there :P
I find it… odd people talking about ROI in a game.
Agreed, people treating the game like some investment or economics beta program. People need to learn to just enjoy the game.. You can do this without ever buying anything off the gem store.
I have missed a lot of them this month.. But mostly yes. I try to take 20 minutes to finish them every day for the karma. Laurels are nice but I just waste them on dyes :P I usually check about 7pm (my time) to see how far I’ve gotten on the daily through just playing. usually it is between 3/5, 4/5. Then i just go finish it off before the reset.
There is 20 other posts like this one. Did it really need its own thread to complain about the fact that you think it cost too much in “your opinion”?
Yes.
Also, mine has the math behind it and, if you ask politely, I can send you a complimentary lightning rod you can staple to your forehead.
What math? I spent $6 for 1200 gems. I bought a pickaxe. I have gotten my moneys worth already. No one cares about the roi of this item, if they do, then don’t buy it.
I swear I could almost think that for every person who complained about the price, someone else bought 2. I’ll buy 10 more to cover my alts if it stays long enough.
There is 20 other posts like this one. Did it really need its own thread to complain about the fact that you think it cost too much in “your opinion”?
1. Not everyone bought them with gold.
2. People did not buy them for their “super money saving awesomeness”
3. They are in the gem store, so they are convenience items.
4. The gem store has never been, nor will it be, a way for players to get ahead of others who don’t use it.
5. It is OPTIONAL
It saves space.
It costs $10-The price of a fast food meal + snack, a small toy, a case of beer etc etc.
It looks cool (opinion)
It mines any ore

The line i hear the most? My Asura saying “There’s the power” when she gets might.
The 1 line i like to hear most from her is “You’re dumb. You’ll die and leave a dumb corpse” when initiating combat. Too bad it’s incredibly rare to hear her say it.
My asura was level 80 and 2 months old, and the first time i heard this I was like o.o wth! awesome! lols
You need like what, over 600 used pickaxes for it to be worth?
Way to waste your money.
And it’s soulbound too. By that time gw3 will be out.Why do people never think before they buy? Learn to use your brain and do some math.
Way to tell people what to do with their money. If you bought GW2 you wasted money using your criteria. because couldn’t you have used that $60 to buy a book to learn something? Or maybe to buy new shoes which have real value? Or heck, the 10 seconds you took to post this rubbish you could have been in game and made at least 10 silver off an ori node or an end maw event? Stop wasting your money/time foolishly.
And by the way math wiz, 30 ors a day with that pick is about 1g. 20-25 days and you have your money back if you do just 30. But then again, people don’t buy this solely to make back money. They buy it for convenience.
Before calling people stupid for spending their own money might wanna think a little deeper than “puddle” level before making yourself sound ignorant and condescending.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
why would you buy it with any kind of money?
Real life cash may be easier to come by than in-game gold for some.
Not only an infinite mining pick is useless because the normal ones are cheap but spending 10$ for pixels and pixels that aren’t even useful is kinda funny imo. Like not because its new YOU have to buy something as worthless…
Have you ever bought a DVD ?
Useless pixels on a disc, why buy those ?
OMG HAHA I love this comment.
What is a DVD? I have all these Blu Ray thingies… you kids and your new fangled technological gizmos!
What to players think about the upcoming update that could separate PVE numbers vs wvw numbers(ie skills/hp etc), and weapons?

Yep, severely, just about given up on making my Bifrost, not only because of bad drops but i cannot find anyone wanting to do Arah runs to get the necessary tokens. I mean i spent a whole evening playing in CS last night, trying to find a group and not 1 lfg for Arah in all that time, nor did i get any response to mine.
I’ve spent most of my playtime in Frostgorge over the past few months but only began seriously farming for t6 mats in the last month or 2. i get an odd pce here and there, some more than others, but 3 i get virtually none of is elaborate totems, armored scales and crystalline dust.
I hate grawls due to their insane respawn rate….which is probably good for farming but i’m sick of the mobbing. I mean i kill one, his body is still falling down and another pops up right under him. But this is true also for bears there as well, but not as bad as grawls. So i kill maybe 50-60 grawls and i’ll be lucky to get 1 or 2 totems, sometimes none. its very frustrating to say the least and very time consuming for no results.I wonder what happened to fun in gw2 that i used to feel in gw1 where i never felt unrewarded for my efforts?
I totally feel you on that, drops need to be increased imo. Nothing really feels rewarding like it did in GW1.
I don’t notice much of a difference at all when I put my MF set on. Without it I get about the same rate of rares, however in D2 MF really had an impact.. I wonder what formula ANet uses because it doesn’t seem to just “increase drop quality” at all.
I think that drop rates for good loot are so low it doesn’t really matter what you’re running because as others have said, drops are simply abysmal as it is. You’re barely helping yourself by running MF.
When drops are upped so that I’m making 10g+ an hour instead of my 6g, I will personally come back in this thread to thank people like you :P
But then again everyone else who makes decent money now with no complaints would be making more too. And this would probably mean the economy changing, which.. I guess could just even it out anyway. Well thats no fun.
Not here, same/better drops lately since I got 3 exotics yesterday while farming. Which is unusual for me but w.e I don’t expect it so its always nice bonus to the normal 4-6g/hr.

The logical assumption would be arenanet would like not to anger tons of paying customers by making this not upgradeable in the future.
The tooltop states that it is on the same level as the orichalcum pickaxe.
Actually the tooltip says “Used to mine all metals.” The website wiki says same as orichalcum. But my sentence was saying that they could simply upgrade its usefulness in the event new ore is introduced, as to appease those players.
4g per hour is not overly hard if the sole function of that time is ‘make moar goldz’. Even after the nerf the Pen/shelt loop with an occasional break for Plinx (and sanity) will turn that easy if you vendor and TP the drops ruthlessly.
Add in that CoF 1 really is the inflationary pit/blight/engine people say it is. Two Omnomberry Bars and a good team and 6 gold an hour is pretty plausible.
You call nerf I call skill training.
Clay, what part of building do you not get. They said they would be adding Guild Halls and player housing in a quote by Martin Kerstein. He didn’t say it would be soon. Rift added player housing after the game was more than a year old. Aion added player housing after the game was more than a couple of years old.
Just because they didn’t do it in the first nine months, doesn’t mean it won’t be done. I have an actual quote (no you can research it yourself) where Martin Kerstein said that both Guild Halls and Player housing will be in the game.
Where does your doubt come from?
They already have “Homes” for players in each races area. I don’t think it would take much to give these instanced areas customization through gem store and in game purchases.
“It is helpful to take Eric’s full statement into account.
He mentioned that there will be no Guild Halls on release as we want to make Guild Halls a great experience and not just a “place”. We will introduce player housing at some point after launch, and at that time we will also implement guild halls. "
NCsoft released housing for Aion on April 11 2012. Aion was released in the US September 2009.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
I would ask arenanet. NCsoft added housing to Aion.
is no one considering the possibility of a new kind of ore being introduced in expansion packs
It isn’t planned or being worked on at the moment. The logical assumption would be arenanet would like not to anger tons of paying customers by making this not upgradeable in the future. And the introduction of new ore does not necessarily mean it will be a higher tier. Just possible more rare, or harder to get to.
I did. If I didn’t have to fix my cars brakes I would have bought about 10. Maybe if it is still around when I have cash again.
I am glad we are getting a free trial weekend for people to get to experience Guild Wars 2. I hope this helps with an influx of purchasing accounts which will make the game even more lively than it is. Because of this I would like to personally offer any newcomers a spot in my guild under the “Guest” rank. This isn’t just for me though, I hope that other guilds will do the same and welcome these players into our world with open arms. For the short time they will be with us I intend to help them adventure through as much of the world as possible, and understand the basics of the game. By doing so this truly opens the eyes of the players to all that we have as paid customers. And in doing so will possibly influence them to take a chance on this game and enjoy it as well. My guild is Titans of Promethea {TOP], and we are on NSP (Northern Shiverpeaks [US] server.) . The website address is in my comments for the guild page.
Now I don’t want this to be a recruit thread, as these are temporary members. And this is definitely not a Guild focus thread, as you do not need a guild to help those players who are coming. But I would like to ask of the community to see who is willing to be mentors to those who may be joining the free trial, to give them the best experience we can in the short amount of time they have.
Are you or your guild looking to befriend these incoming players?
If so please simply say yes or post your guild name and server if your entire guild wishes to help.
What are 5 things you would tell a newcomer during the free trial weekend to make the best of their time?
And finally what brought you to the game, and what do you find most enjoyable about the game?
I’d like to keep this thread positive as we have plenty of threads that criticize either way. But lets let those players decide for themselves after they get to enjoy the game.

I do that, too. But whenever I spend time in Orr, there are as many players as before. ^^
I was just thinking that it is quite amazing that the loot discussion evaporated after they finally fixed it… the fix must have been the solution to all the unhappy gamers, otherwise there would have been still complaints.
No worries, like the weather in NY-give it 5 minutes and everyone will have something to complain about. :P
It seems everyone is happy again?
Because people don’t farm open world pve as much, now it’s all world event boss farming.
I rarely get to do bosses, I just farm open PvE.
