II think the living story ends should allow players to receive one weapon ticket for trade to get a skin.

Temp content is a great test for what works and what doesn’t. Those things can be applied to the core game.

That’s great and all except all of the great new content they’ve added in the last couple of months has been temporary. I’m all for adding new great things and testing the waters, but if nothing ever comes from it, what’s the point?

SAB, this new dungeon, the new weapon skins. All gone after a week and a half from now. Why? That is so counter productive and they just go “here’s this awesome stuff but yeah it’s gone in 2 weeks”.

People are leaving the game in droves because of everything only being available from Black Lion chests and all of the content being removed after a week.

This temporary stuff and stuff only available from gambling doesn’t create compelling gameplay or interest in the game – quite the opposite.

As much speculation as my post “People are leaving the game in droves because of everything only being available from Black Lion chests and all of the content being removed after a week.”

There are obviously other reasons but I can tell you straight up a ton of my friends quit and went back to other games because of the money grubbing and not having enough to do in this game.

I can understand that, but not everyone feels either way. People will stay/leave for different reasons. The game as a whole is still great and has time to improve. For those who can’t wait, you already own the game, its not going anywhere. I know I will personally be playing FFXIV (drools and the graphics and im an ff fan ^^;), some others like TESO, Destiny, and plenty of others coming. I believe a lot of the trouble with the game is based on the players attitudes towards it and the problem with rushing through the game. So taking a break won’t hurt anything especially not your wallet, and if you want to come back it is still here. But I don’t think all the doom and gloom people hang over GW2 is deserved, I just see peoples playstyles being a huge factor when it comes to issues about the game. And playstyles is not something you can design to fit everyone. But that is why there is other MMO’s out there ^^

I agree 100% with your entire post and I’m not saying I’m threatening to quit or anything because I’m not. I’m just disappointed seeing where Anet is going as a company and focusing more on making a few bucks on the gem store than producing compelling, lasting content for us.

I know people hate when I say “wait and see what happens”, but now that this arc of story has come to an end perhaps we will see more core focus. And using the information gathered from temp content they can make the core better. Thats my thoughts anyway.

I hear ya. I’m thinking the same thing and really hoping for something like that to happen. Just for me it seems that they’re doing everything they were so against in their manifesto and early stages of development.

It’s all about the cash shop, it’s all about being lucky. Player skill or time invested has nothing to do with what you can earn in this game. I use the term “earn” lightly because you can just buy legendaries anyway.

Having a fused weapon should mean you participated in the living story event. Having things event-related shouldn’t be about cash shops and RNG. You should be rewarded for participating in events, not winning the lottery.

But remember nothing on the cash shop is necessary. Players only hold it to such a high level solely because “fashion” and “prestige” is valued above everything else to (players), but the same isn’t true for devs. Yes they profit from the shop, but it has little to nothing to do with the core of the game. Nothing gives you functional advantage over players in game to anywhere near the point of being P2W.

Items in game are only worth the price we put on them, things in game only hold ANY value to those who attach value to them.

Yeah I fail to see how people who play a MMO expect single player content to be a main stage of content…

Well i fail to see how peoples who play MMO to expect it to be Always and party Only

99% of the story is solo, 1% is not.
A HUGE amount of world content is soloable.
ALL hearts are solo (I think)

And this is an MMO. And yet somehow people find the silliest things to complain about.

Why does the dungeon need to be temporary?

Because it is part of a “living story”, much like real life, when you destroy/change part of the world it stays changed. Well at least in a small way in game.. Temp content is a great test for what works and what doesn’t. Those things can be applied to the core game.

Why are the Fused Weapons only from the BLC?

Why can’t they make this (and add to it) a permanent dungeon with tokens much like the others and add the fused weapons as dungeon rewards to spend tokens on…?

Suggestion. Whos to say you won’t ever see this style of dungeon in the future?

Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one? The dungeon on its own was awesome. Imagine it being its own explorable.. New content is what’s going to keep this game going, not temporary content and then the same old stuff afterwards.

Temp content has been raking in serious money, and the majority of the playerbase love the content. It gives players a reason to keep coming back, because the world is always changing.

Is there a link you can provide to back up any of these statements you’ve made? Or is this just your opinion?

I would really be interested in reading about how much “serious money” they’ve made (especially). Also, you claim the “majority of playerbase love the content.” Does that mean 51% of the playerbase or a higher percentage? How many players have viewed this as “… a reason to keep coming back…”?

I find these topics very interesting. It would be great if you could provide some official links to ArenaNet employees.

Some of the things I wrote are not found by dev posts, but sort of common sense. A nice example of the “testing” being true is the fact that the dungeon team were not the main people making the current dungeon that a large amount of people seem to have loved, much like SAB (but thats not GW2 core style).

You can definitely see that the exchange is going crazy with every change in new items, so one could say that they are making decent money. A lot of what I wrote is from experiencing players feedback in game (not as much on forums), and my personal experiences. So people can take those with a grain of salt if they like. I will however make an attempt to get some numbers and supply them for the community. As far as myself, arenanet has gotten enough of my money in the last 3 months to buy a xbox 360 fro every member of the living story team. So at least in that aspect, I know they are doing well :P

There is a gauntlet skin reward for completing the story, a mini pet chance from chest, and a recipe chance from chest.

The exchange rate shot to almost 3g, then declined to just above where it was previously. Players affect this.

They were suggestions for other things less painful to obtain instead of said item. I think your definition of trolling is a bit off..

Everyone hates the RNG, I happen to have 4 of the Fused Weapons, and I went through the same process as everyone else. If you know that luck is against you, then you should try something else. My suggestions were all F&F themed, and viable options instead of those skins. Yes they are not weapon alternatives, but they are part of the new content. As far as the Fused RNG problem, a quick search or wiki would have produced that fact that the drop is not guaranteed. If someone knows this, then they should be complaining/suggesting that anet does something different next time. Not complaining that they wasted X amount of money, that is on them.

I would absolutely love if the select few would stop trolling. We all know hes referring to the fused weapon skins, nothing else.

Haven’t seen any trolling here, just alternatives to the RNG items that are also F&F themed.

Those are not on RNG, maybe you like one of those.

They’re nice and all, but they’re not molten-looking.

The Fused skins should be on the store for purchase, RNG is just bullkitten. Make them super expensive, I don’t care. There should just be some 100% sure way to get them.

So many nice changes for a change. I didn’t see any mention of adjustments to CS DE’s, but haven’t encountered a champ in pent/shelt in about an hours play. Much less annoying than previously. For the thief nerf reversion (Reveal in PvE) I thank you Anet. I’m playing my thief again for the first time since the nerf.

I think there was a small enhancement for the daily’s where you can now see a count down timer before reset. (Which people asked for)

So SAB, F&F, Guild Missions, Daily and Monthly Reward Systems, and New SPvP doesn’t qualify as expansion worthy content for you?

It does to you?? Great additions, but I’d hardly call it an expansions worth of content. At least not compared to the games that I have played expansions on (WoW, Starcraft, Guild Wars 1). They do seem like decent patch updates, but expansion worthy? Not at all.

Expansion worthy would have all of that + a whole new set of maps in PvP + a whole new area in PvE with several zones + possibility of level increase + several new armor sets + possibility of new race and/or professions.

I understand that would be hard to do, and that is why I was skeptical when they said an expansion worth of content was coming. However, I was also very excited for it. The over-hype has lead to a major let-down. High expectations usually leads to disappointment.

If they had not made that claim, I would be ecstatic with all of the amazing content updates they have added.

Why does everyone hinge on every word of what a dev says? People here “expansion worth of content” and decide it means exactly what the player wants it to mean. And if it doesn’t stand up to your definition, then clearly they lied…

There have been a ton of updates, and to me it did feel like an expansion worth for a game that is under a year old still. People will find anything to complain about in a game, even though it is a no sub, buy to play game..

And I would love if people could stop comparing GW2 to games that are 8-10+ years old. A bit of common sense is in order..

Right…….

I’m reasonably certain living story content will eventually come back. Right now as it seems that ANet is focused on fleshing out a year’s worth of seasonal content (which they will also expand upon, just not as fervently as this year) and will then focus on permanent content once we come back around to release. If memory serves correctly, they had a similar content development scheme with GW1.

SAB and F&F are both temporary things so they do not count as new content.

Temporary content is a great test for how to improve and create core content.

anet needs to put in real capes, every mmo and fantasy rpg game has capes… plus they look cool, gw1 had them also.

The only real reason we dont have capes is either – lazyness – bad game engine

i could implement capes in this game (Im a game dev).

First of all i would make capes disapear underwater,
stats would stay but just like the helmet, it would disapear, this is a quick fix for it being difficult to code long big cloth pshysics underwater, and it still is possible to do but would also slow down perofrmance a lot, specially in wvw.

then i would…

Make an option to have capes not have high end pshsycis in wvw game mode, to reduce zerg with cape – inducing performance loss, perhaps just make them almost straighht with a tiny bit of pshycis for the bottem, which is a feature that is in unreal engine and a lot of other engines, u basicly limit how crazy the cape can become with pssshics.

and the last option for low end computers is to disable all capes but your own, and / or disable all capes.

There are a lot of clipping problems in this game.

I didn’t know what to expect going in, but it was the best dungeon run I have ever had to date with GW2! (And I went with a random PUG with no voice chat opposed to the fun I usually have on voice chat with my guild.) It was beautifully crafted and the dredge traps made me think of Batman: Arkham Asylum haha. The boss was challenging yet fun, and the same can be said for the mobs. Then the ending well… I won’t spoil it, but it felt so epic getting out of there hehe.

Anyways it may just be me, but this is the way you should begin going with all dungeons Anet. I love it! I will do many more runs, not for profit but out of enjoyment of the dungeon. I really hope it doesn’t disappear or if it does that it’s replayable in some sense! This was truly my favorite dungeon run I have ever done in the game.

I barely made any profit at all, yet I can’t wait to replay the dungeon with my guild mates later today. Anyways headed to get my skin now! Just thought I’d share my appreciation for this wonderful dungeon experience.

Hi,

I think it’s nearly impossible to get rich in GW2. I do a lot of events, guild missions, yet i am so poor. Can you make some solid cash without farming 24/7?

Yup. If you are as casual as you claim to be, you can just do daily bosses, maybe some cof and other additional stuff. You can easily get 10g/day.
If you can’t even do that then you don’t deserve all that fancy stuff you want. There are no magical ways to get rich in a blink of an eye. (unless you get incredibly lucky)

I still don’t understand how can casual player get 10g/day.

10 did I read that right, 10 gold a DAY for a casual player, if only that were true I would be mega rich by now.

1 gold a day is much more realistic.

Casual does not mean efficient. I casually farm, i could sum up my actual farming in maybe 3 events to 4 per hour. In that hour it is possible to make 4+ g. And that is without dungeons, so if you perhaps did 2-3 very quick CoF, then 2-3 Orr events, 10 actually seems a bit low.

Did you forget to mention that to get that kind of return from events, you need to pay the Magic Find tax?

I use 30%, which is 1 food. Is that too much for you? Even without MF, I can get at least 1g/hr. Again, guesting is open.

Whoa, that’s a nice tip. I have failed to explore cooking to its full potential.

30% MF 40% coin from the bars. Also if you gather the ingredients you can make like 200 which actually nets you 400. Use the 200 and sell the other 200 for profit ^^

I agree with Donari. I think in-game surveys would be a good way of reaching the majority of the player base, as long as the pop ups weren’t intrusive. Maybe it would be sent as an in-game mail?

As long as they don’t fill the mailbox :P I think mail would be fine though, or a small icon above map etc.

Can we someday have in-game surveys to show what content we enjoyed and to cover other questions? I think it would help with feedback more than just forums do since most agree that forums are not the majority of players. I think in-game surveys would serve as a stronger opinion base.

Just the first 3 types that pop up off the top of my head:

What class do you play most in WVW/SPVP?
Rate ______ Content 1-10.
Which areas do you frequent most?

Theres an infinite list, those are just an example. I think little surveys once in a while could really give devs the info they seek and could close the gap between forum opinions and in game opinions.

What about the fact that they are changing the skills between PVP and PVE?

I don’t see what bearing that has on anything. We’ve already established that they continue to make changes across the game without considering what it is their players want. Why is this such a hard concept for you to grasp?

Let me put this in the form of an analogy. I invite you to join me at a sea-side resort. The resort serves a variety of dishes, a number of which you really enjoy, a number of which you might sample, and some of which you don’t particularly like. You can also enjoy sunbathing on the private beach, or engaging in water-oriented activities such as water-skiing or water polo.

How long would you continue to stay if I decided to change the menu, drastically reducing the things you enjoy, increasing the things you didn’t like; or dumped manure all over the private beach; or introduced a shark population into the local waters?

Suppose that I were not open to your concerns for your safety and well-being. How long do you expect you would remain at my resort?

ArenaNet has continually told its player base that it doesn’t care what they think. Do you truly find that acceptable?

I think you missed what I was saying, or maybe I wrote it wrong. they are changing the skills so that skills in PVE will no longer be blanket “nerfed” in PVP, and vice versa. So instead of just killing skills because it was OP for PVP, they will be able to address them in their corresponding manner. I don’t see how this new change is anything but exactly what people asked for. And by that I mean, for anet to listen and respond with balancing which makes sense. Which to me, this does. But alos I will add I never depend on one style of play, as I know the FOTM class/skills are always changing. So I’m not affected in such a way that i want to make a quit thread over a patch.

Because they use the term nerf in such a negative way that everything else in the thread reads “they broke the game, it is going to die, everyone should leave”. We seriously need a more neutral word for balance changes..

And “balance change” doesn’t begin to cover the way they destroy classes that people enjoy for the sake of their contrived Utopian delusion of what the game should be. Unless people speak up about them blithely ruining hours and fortunes invested, the game will eventually become “every class has 1 hit point and 1 nuke button skill”. That’s the only way it can be balanced.

In the mean time, people will create builds based on what they feel are strengths they can use in the class, and how they enjoy playing — only to find themselves holding useless gear and the shattered memories of a character you used to enjoy.

Honestly, if you really invested that much into ele and were one of the players using it long term ranger than jumping on the d/d, it’s not to bad if you stop and look at it. We’re still better off compared to the pre d/d boom time, aside from our shrinking offensive options.

As for the thread itself, I feel people use the term “nerf” far too much without considering the game as a whole. But since this will be locked.. my opinion doesn’t matter much here…

How do people use nerf too much? A nerf is a nerf, it’s a awakening of something. It may be good for the game as a whole, but that doesn’t make it any less of a nerf.
