Do any of you have special things you do before you do the lotteries? When I salvage ectos I click slowly, then when it asks if I’m sure I hold down the button for like 3 seconds and wish for 3 ectos :P
Most of the people complaining here are saying “I’m a casual player but i want to have the best gear in the game”. I think people forgot what casual means or i’ve been wrong for such a long time.
‘Casual’ has no single meaning, it’s used as a derogatory term by some elitists when they’re being condescending to others they consider inferior .. in which case it will mean something like ‘lazy’, they want it on a ‘silver platter’, etc. .. other times it’s used to define players who can’t devote 4+ hours to do a single raid or other group event, etc. There are many other uses to which ‘casual’ is put, thus it means nothing really any more.
Thus, whenever the word ‘casual’ is used in an argument you generally can toss rational discussion out of the window, because one side or the other will be trying to score points.
Casual isn’t an elitist term, many of my friends are casual and love the game. Its simply to separate people who enjoy the game casually as in “time played” or even “style played” as opposed to people who aggressively play for gold or leveling or pvp etc. There is nothing wrong with either type, anyone who says casuals are any less of players than the more hardcore are simply trolls.
Aside from casual and hardcore players there are “lazy players”, these people can be in both categories. Lazy players wish to have everything handed to them, do little or less work than everyone else for the same reward. True casuals understand that their purpose or mission in the game will take longer than hardcore players. True hardcore players realize they will have rewards sooner but have to work/play harder or longer. Lazy players don’t care about anyone but themselves mostly, and they are often the elitists you speak of. Because once they get that silver spoon its immediately used to tear down players who lack that specific thing. Its difficult to tell who is who in thee categories without knowing them personally, so its best never to judge. Rather, simply avoid agitating them thus causing a thread of hate towards whomever they wish. Much like zoo animals, you must remember not to feed them. If they get too used to being fed by the average gamers, they will grow up to be man-eating trolls. Once they reach this there is no cure and must quickly be removed from the zoo. They will be a harm to themselves and others and must be put into a special place away from the regular animals. Usually to someplace like http://us.battle.net/wow/en/.
I seen this particular argument made from the viewpoint of ‘hardcore’ players on these forums in the past. I think people just like to complain. :x
You now understand the universe And the interwebs hehe
I was grinding Orr yesterday like I usually do. Upon my last event which I hadn’t really left the area I got my first rare in 2-3 event runs like usual. Ding goes the Gold Event Medal, and all of 5k XP to my level 80 character lol. RNG is RNG despite what little is known about DR, or the problem with loot claim. I look forward to the update it should make things a little more steady for everyone.
u guys all happy now, ha, they give us a bit of carrot and we eat all up, it’s another dodge peeps, sounding all professional and statistically verifiable hullabaloo. When it smells like bs, feels like bs, tastes like bs, guess wha? …….
…. stop eating BS? Can’t be good for you.
“After reading reports in this thread, we spent more time investigating our rewards system. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we verified that all loot tables are indeed working correctly in the game.”
“Since then, we continued receiving reports that there seemed to be an issue, so we extended our search to all systems that created opportunities for you to get items from loot tables. Here we found an issue that we were able to verify was consistent across everyone who reported problems:
The rules by which you qualify for credit for an event or for experience when killing a mob are different rules than those used to help determine if you qualify for loot. Some of these were set up to be unintentionally restrictive, and as such you could kill a creature with a lot of health (this was most noticeable on champions) and not qualify for loot, despite qualifying for all other credit.”So really they did say that they hadn’t changed anything, but there is an internal issue that they are working on fixing. People were mostly making outlandish claims that arenanet nerfed drops and DR, as if a company would purposely try to lose all credibility and large sums of money. This I think is why their comment was made. Again, perhaps I take things less serious than others. I did contribute to that thread with over an hour of HD footage and several pics to help see the issue. But at the same time I had patience and didn’t resort to what some players have and become rude and callous towards the members of the Arenanet team.
Oh i read that whole thread, took me a week but i did it. So im well aware that some posters were less than happy with anet and said so in many cases and were not nice about it. As anet is the devs though its there job to respond in a professional manner and not stoop down to the level of some people in that post and lower themselves to namecalling right along with some of the forum posters in that thread.
Also what you need to remember is most of those posters who lost it and made rude remarks did so knowing that they were right and after anet made the paranoid conspiracy theorist comments. So really anet brought most of those comments on themselves by both not doing there job to look into the issue well enough to find the issue and by going down to the level of namecalling. I think there would have been alot less blowback directed at anet had they been more professional in the handling of that situation.
Perhaps they could have responded differently, maybe even they thought it wouldn’t be taken as a direct insult to players. I mean hes been working in this field for 16 years or so, that’s technically still young. And perhaps even Colin himself is still pretty young for what he does in his line of work. You don’t become an international PR expert over night of course, but maybe that youth isn’t entirely bad. Being somewhat young may help him identify with his players and his customers. This will help him and the staff of arenanet shape a game that should be polished in a decent amount of time. Whether or not he did the right thing, we can all admit at least in our minds even in a business world when we see people flaming or with such aggression and hate that we have plenty of not so nice things we would love to say. We simply filter those out into a constructive as possible reply without costing our jobs or reputation. I work on computers, but I don’t call the lady who has no power to the PC an idiot when she forgets to plug it in. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have some sly comments floating in my head :P We all learn in time to act with tact, to degrade a persons work, to insult people directly, is certainly asking for these people to return the favor. And I suppose this works both ways.

These are by far some of the worst forums ive ever seen, due to censorship. I realize forums need to be moderated but there is a line between needed moderation and nazi dictatorship style moderation, and these forums fall into the latter.
Perhaps its because i spend alot of time here during the night because im infront of a comp with not much to do so i noticed the threads when they are posted and then 10 min later poof gone and most users just dont notice this happening on a regular basis but just because most dont notice doesnt mean it isnt happening.
Im sure most of you saw one of the 5-6 threads that were posted over the past few days about the user trying to find a not dead server to transfer to, none of which contained anything against the rules yet all were locked for no reason. When simple things like trying to find a populated server to play on is being locked then you have a serious issue with moderation. I realize you dont want people knowing your servers are dead because people are leaving the game in large numbers, but the answer to this is fixing the game and fix the reasons that you are lossing players not brushing it under the rug and hoping no one notices.
There are enough bugs and issues with this game that you are going to have negative posts, thats just the way forums work, brushing them all under the rug is not the solution.
Also, calling us all tinfoil hat x-files conspiracy theorists was a VERY POOR AND OUTRIGHT RUDE was to handle that loot situation, especially considering WE WERE RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME.
This is why i view these forums as a joke and only post serious threads about gw2 at other non-anet controlled MMO forums where you are actually allowed to talk about the whole game and not just the good aspects.
The sad thing is all excessive moderation does is turn the forums into a bunch of yes men white knight posters which offer no feedback to the devs and if anything actually hurt the further development of the game, but hey if anet wants a forums full of white knights they are off to a good start.

Of which i did see the first few threads and none of which broke the posted rules.
And thats far from the first post locked which broke no known posted rules, you just have to camp on the main page and refresh every 5 min to catch most of them before they dissapear.
But the key point is that you are allowed to appeal. Which in most cases on the net is not possible. A simple print-screen button press and an email could resolve any issue, or simply doing as they stated and emailing an appeal. Things are done democratically, and give chances to appeal any decision made on your account or post. Whereas in other MMO’s I’ve played depending on the severity of what you have done you are banned, no warning, no goodbye, no appeals, just done.
You of course are assuming you actually do have a chance to appeal and that all e-mail going to that adress doesnt just get a autoreponse and filed in the delete folder.
Having never delt with anet forums appeals im not sure if thats the case or not, but i know of other devs in which that is exactly what happens and judging by the censorship going on here it wouldnt surprise me if that was the case here as well.
As you said alot of MMO’s dont offer appeals, wouldnt surprise me if anet was the same way just trying to save face by saying they do.
Either way the fact that the post got locked in the first place is the issue, not what happens after.

I sent an email, 6 hours later I was back on forums over a small misunderstanding. I took it with a grain of salt, we all make mistakes. After all we are only human.

If it is evident that this is happening to many people acrossed the board surely Arenanet would have to acknowledge it. But posting the removed post again is only further breaking the tos on these forums. When most of us know that any action taken by admins or mods are discussed between the player and the person, not between the player and the forums.

Arenanet changes loot to garaunteed yellow drop from veteran, exotic from champ. Bots/RMT farm these for 1 week, 24 hours a day, Trading Post prices on rares/exotics drop to nothing. Crafters are now useless, ectos start costing 2s, everyone has epic gear in 2 days and quits. Just sayen.
How to use your laurels wisely. Don’t get bummed by those few t6 mats you get from laurels, learn to use them in a much tastier way.

The repair might work. I’d try that in case somethen went a lil off. I mean, it could be worse…
Arenanet = Skynet before they get the air support?

Honestly these forums are very limited to others i’ve used..
And the living in fear of moderators and infractions for speaking your mind doesn’t help much in my opinion..
Exactly why I barely or ever see trolls here or RMT posts or tons of degrading posts. I feel they do a good job at keeping those types at bay.
Sweeping peoples opinions under the proverbial rug is not the way to conduct a forum.
If people are upset or have concerns they should be able to voice them, that is what forums are for…constantly deleting and infracting leaves a bitter taste for any intelligent forum user, or it should, even if you disagree with what is being said, everyone should be extremely concerned at the censorship on these forums. As to the negative posts…it has been shown and proved many times that this is directly proportionate to the general feeling of the player base……happy players = generally happy atmosphere all around….unhappy players = negative feedback, generally speaking of course.
This is directly affected by those in charge…devs, GM’s and forum moderators……..a famous quote….“attitude reflects leadership, captain”.
Unhappy players can be anyone from a 12 year old in a basement who was spoiled their entire life, to a 45 year old medical doctor. This is in no way the opinions of everyone “in” game. I might direct such inquiries to Aion forums, WoW forums, to truly see how much the forums represent the player base. I’m in game around 12 hours a day, and although i can only speak for my server, I will say the overall atmosphere in no way is similar to the forums. infractions are to root out those posts/people who neglect to read forum rules, abide by the ethics code, or simply have no constructive information to relay to players.
There are plenty of posts that degrade Arenanet, Guild Wars 2, the employees directly, and other players still on these forums unlocked. This proves that there is an ability to voice concerns where “some” kind of constructiveness is applied to the post/thread. If people cannot abide by the rules, the TOS, the forum guidelines, and the overall ethical responsibilities as a human being, then they have no place on these forums.
As for the infractions I can personally admit that i was permanently banned from these forums due to a mistake in posting the same post on 3 forums. It was my first mistake and was done quickly thinking those 3 areas of the forum were relevant. The threads were moved, then deleted, then infracted upon my account to cause a permanent ban in under 10 minutes. I explained the situation to the moderators and it was resolved, and I had learned the limits of cross-posting. Obviously I can use forums now, and I hold no grudge against Arenanet for doing their due diligence. It takes tact and intelligence to work with others not just in a business atmosphere but a social one. Without both in hand, there is nothing being brought to the discussion.

I love pre-80. My problem is that the personal story isn’t so personal anymore past the Claw Island part. Frak Trahearne and his scholarly shotty attitude, I hate him!!!
So, pre-50 is fun, 50-80 is crap and boring, post-80 is fun again.
Post 80 is boring- Add a “Kill Trahearne” quest-Solved.
Pre 80 is boring- Require players to hold breath until they reach next level. By the time they hit 70 they will either be an expert deep sea diver, or in a coma. -Solved
I just did a test how much worse off my level 4 Thief is compared to my level 80 Ranger in WvW. Both classes have underwater spear weapon. My Thief took 47 hits to kill a marsh drake, while my Ranger took only 17 to kill the same marsh drake (without pet support). I just had the basic traits and did simple autoattacks.
So much for having level playing field.
You lack the traits of the 80, it caps your level and gives you 80 stats, it is not SPVP where you are the literal equivalent of an 80 player with all traits. I had 6 kills at level 7 on my ranger in WvW.
Pre level 80 you’re basically playing a tutorial that never seems to end. I decided to make a list of every single drawback that not being level 80 has.
- You’re inferior to every level 80 character in the game, regardless of level scaling.
Your low level is inferior to a high level..go figure- You won’t have weapon swapping
Until….level 7?- You won’t have slot skills and you won’t be able to equip them
Um.. you earn them by skill point spots and leveling- You won’t have weapon skills unlocked
I’m seeing a trend here.. yes teh answer to all this is yes you have to do “work”- 20 minutes- You won’t have elite skill
Until level 30…- You won’t have traits and trait points that level 80’s have
No you do not start the game with everything someone worked hard to get at 80 >.>- You will have reduced income. What you make in lower levels is significantly less than what fully geared 80’s are making
Yes again, except lower levels have a higher chance of rares..- Your daily quest rewards are scaled lower because you’re lower level
Easier, work vs reward- You won’t be able to go and experience the higher regions in the world because you die there
Because……. your low level holy kitten.. theme is really goen on- You won’t be a welcome guest to dungeon groups, because you’re inferior
Because your new, get a guild, learn- You will be a low-damage dealing noob that dies in two hits in WvW, good for
staying behind repairing walls basically. Take your level 10 character and see how long it takes to even kill those wasps at the start of WvW map.
You get capped to a level 80…- Every piece of equipment you get is going to be obsolete in a few levels
This is a plus, means your saving money for 80 exotics- You will have to buy pieces of equipment because the pieces you have will become obsolete
you have to support an economy… I feel like theres a “In soviet Russia..” joke here..Now for constructive question: what is the best way to level up a new character?
10,000 kittens and a hamster.
Story, hearts, dungeons, meta events, explore, wvw, crafting, dailys, monthlys, living story.

Is this a satirical response to the “Post 80 is Boring” thread?
+1 :P
Pre-80 is boring, post 80 is boring, I’m bored, things are too hard, things are too easy. 90% of threads just summed up. If only we could hand out chocolate to all the complainers one by one. Every time they complain they get some chocolate. Then when your out and about and see some 400 pound kid, you can think to yourself “Ah, I’ve probably seen him on forums.”
Forums are comprised in large by people who no longer play, like to qq, and not a direct representation of the game itself. That being said, the forums are nice in that not every MMO forum has replies daily by lead designers and devs. Some, for instance AION is comprised entirely of very few responses by CC’s and CM’s who get their information from a guy, who gets his information from a guy, who knows a guy, who met a guy, who had tea with a girl who works with a guy, who is the janitor at the building where the dev works, and he thinks he heard what they said on friday, last month.
The forums are pretty helpful minus the hate, just don’t let them dictate how you perceive this game, its company, or its players. For fun stuff, to see events we had like Anet hosted or player hosted you can look through forums. Be very careful in this section, as it is mostly comprised of angry people who argue about random issues, then derail the topic into something Seinfeld worthy.
I’m a casual player. I have noticed that this game is evolving in a way that is making it harder for casuals to complete content. Too bad. Why is that?
The devs were all hardcore over-achievers as players. All their friends are the same. Hardcore content is what devs enjoy showing off to other devs at conventions. Hardcore players brag about how something is too easy. Most people having trouble are too embarrassed to say anything on forums, they just quit.
From the devs point of view and from the point of view of their friends, hardcore content is what they end up believing is what everybody wants, and besides hardcore content has a long “lifespan”.
Besides that, Hardcore content is just plain more fun to make. There is something sadistically satisfying in designing a jump requireing a perfect computer with a perfect mouse, perfect reactions, zero lag, and only workable from only one little bitty takeoff point…and watch the suckers fall over and over.
“Challenge” is only fun if you end up winning.
This is perspective. Some people enjoy challenge whether or not they win, and enjoy the journey. Some people do not do things simply to finish them or to achieve a goal. There is some long history of psychology involved in those different types of people but I don’t feel like explaining it, or the Maslow’s Triangle :P
It really just depends on how you look at the game. Whether or not you are hardcore or casual, you have the same opportunity to acquire the same things. As stated over and over throughout this thread:
There is clearly only one difference in those two type achieving the same goal-Time.

“Guild Wars 2 isn’t one of those games that masquerades as free-to-play but is really designed so that you can’t get far without having to buy lots of microtransactions. We recognize that customers paid $60 for the game and they have the right to play the full game. So the microtransactions we offer are non-essential additions to the game and convenience services for players who want to trade money for time.”
-Mike O’Brien
Hehe, its all optional ^^
There is no doubt that GW2 contains very unique mechanics different from all MMORPG’s
But one bugs me
It is that the game is pro trading oriented (trading post) on the other hand the game limits farming, grinding approach.
I mean there are limits (DR) on everything, loot, dynamic events, dungeon runs
BUT
Trading on TP is unlimited. Sales listing’s-unlimited, buy orders-unlimited, time on listings and orders-unlimited
I dont know any other mmorpg with such an approach.
I dont mind it very much because I am causual player (2-3 hours a day average)
But I think the grinding, farming approach shouldnt be limited by DR
I think there are other mechanics to fight bots
I actually enjoy this. I hated having spent money and waiting a week just to have my item returned minus the taxes.. So this system is a nice improvement. I do fine with my drops despite many others issues, I can’t comment on the 100% reason why everyone doesn’t experience the same loot issues as I’m not on the dev team.
There’s only 2 limit I could find really, which I don’t mind:
“The maximum number of units you can buy or sell in a single transaction is 250, i.e. a single stack.”
“You are limited in how many items you can list for sale in a short period of time.”
Aside from that, there is no way to make money from buying/selling gems/gold. What I mean is you can’t just sell 500 gems for gold, then rebuy back for more.
“The exchange rates are determined by supply and demand: as more people spend real-world cash to buy gems and sell them, the required amount of coin to purchase gems drop; if people spend more coin on gems, the rate will increase. In addition, the exchange rates are not identical: the rate to buy gems is about 36% higher than for selling gems. For example, if you were to spend 1 on gems and then immediately resell those gems, you would end up with 73 26 .”
I have no complaints about the TP or the grinding i do for between 2-3g an hour average. My one thing I find a little annoying I guess would just be the error when you sell too fast.
DR is a way of keeping us free from bots and RMT. I’m 100% for any means that discourage RMT activities as they do in fact support black markets as well as in some cases terrorism. Funds go directly to large umbrella type companies, very little is actually gained by the RMT’s themselves. Corruption and crime is far reaching, from back alley gun/drug deals to even MMO RMT’s. Maybe the system can be tweaked or changed a bit and better analyzed to see whats really going on with loot drops. But overall this is the least RMT swarmed game I’ve ever played. Most the time in other MMO’s my daily starts and ends with blocking 5-30 spamming bots or RMT.

I can’t resist the Unidentified dyes… I just can’t leave them as is.
I have over 100 BL chests in my bank and not going to buy keys so they are easy to ignore. Those dyes are just too compelling.
The only thing worse is loot bags… I wish I could sell them but there is that chance a core could be in there.
Yea, keep the bags As for the chest, how come no one makes their “50 cents” off selling their stacks? :P
Yes but the stats are negligible, and the “shiny” stuff is optional. As far as stats a good group can do anything in game with a decent set of rares. I haven’t experienced a problem with playing with story gear for 50 levels. The only thing I’ve had trouble with is mobs that are 3+ above my level. In most MMO’s you have a decent chance to kill them, in GW2 if your fighting something 4 or 5 above you, most likely its taking half your health per hit lol
I believe they are trying to appease both sides, the casuals and the hard-cores. It will never be perfect, but it takes time to achieve a polished product. And at 7 months (?) I feel they are doing pretty well at adjusting the game to fit everyone’s liking as best they can. They can’t make it 100% perfect for 100% of the people 100% of the time. That’s why there is more than 1 MMO out there. TESO,FFXIV, and the new Destiny games all look interesting. And I’m sure playing all of them casually could please any player, if done correctly. But again, for 1 MMO to fit everyone it is quite an impossible thing. I love strawberry icecream, but my wife doesn’t. But they sell Neapolitan at the store, so it works for everyone.

Lots of things in game that are consumable type items are a RNG item or as I like to call a lottery. Some of them are:
1. Unidentified dyes: Take a click and win 20g or get the worst dye in game :P
2. Orr Karma Chests: Make a ton of money and obsidian shards, or get some more karma.
3. Laurel gear chests: Some nice rares, with… vitality :P
4. Laurel Tiered materials: Ah those mats, gotta love em, all.. 3 -5 of em :P
5. BL chests: 1 chest 3 copper, 1 key $5. Opening up a chest to 1xp amulet and uni dye=Priceless.
You can include your best and worst results too ^^
I probably missed a few, but what is your favorite and least favorite lottery?
All of these can be fun, or painfully agitating. But all of them are optional. Aside from a fav and a hated, do you have any weird rituals you perform before opening them?

One topic that seems to be getting overlooked is the time investment to get these laurels and by extension ascended gear. A casual player will want to log in and play whatever aspect of the game he or she wants. A casual player doesn’t want to be faced with a chore that has to be completed every day. Another topic that keeps getting brought up is that casuals don’t need ascended gear. This is a terrible argument because everyone deserves to have top tier gear in this game. One of the design philosophies was that players would not need to endlessly grind to get the best gear. With the current implementation of the laurels it takes a month to get each item. That is certainly a grind and is made worse by requiring daily participation. A simple change would be to make ascended gear craftable thus removing the chore associated with the daily.
Grinding for a month for 1 piece of the best gear in game. I have no words to express how very much I wish EVERY game was this “difficult” in this aspect.
I suppose its more about if you really want to try them or not. Whether they are worth it or not, if you have the cash and don’t mind a lottery chance to win there’s nothen wrong with it. As for me I think I’ve bought about 25 this month for fun, filled an entire bank section with junk lol Yea I didn’t get a perma item, but I did get useful stuff and overall got all those items cheaper than as if I would have bought separately. In the end it was for fun, and I have the money, so i don’t mind.
I agree with the sale part of some of the posts though, I’d definitely buy more for fun if they had a quick sale.
I hear they close at 4pm PST, hope you can get your free ones from them in time ^^
Theres no response that will appease every player. But I can say in the end there are two very important details to remember:
1. This is an MMO.
2. This is a money making business.
First and foremost this game has things that make you feel the need to log in every day. That’s the excitement of MMO’s. Even if that daily log in is only 1 hour, thats all they really want. An MMO is not just an RPG, its a sustainable world that MUST change often in order to keep people playing. If you make it so people can log in once a week to get the same rewards as the people get by logging in daily, well then you might as well just make this an RPG. Even in the videos with Colin, as well as other MMO’s you will hear them state “We are working on bringing more to the world, making it so people want to log in everyday.” These words may be said in different ways but always the same idea. In order to have a seemingly “busy” and “active” world you need those players to want to log in everyday. Say you switched everything to monthly. Log in and make it so everyone could complete every reward in a day, and that counted for the month. Where then is the player base in between? These daily are why you see people when you click “log in”, these ongoing meta events and ascended gear is why you see people in zones. Without an active world the world dies, and with it all hope of the game as well as the business becoming worth anything. By far this is probably the most casual you will see, the closest thing you will see to the casual aspect of this game is a console RPG.
Lastly, this is a business. A developing ongoing business. And people seem to think that the devs and leads do not care about the community. This makes no sense! Granted they made their 3 million copies, but do you honestly think they see posts and say “oh who cares, we’re done anyway”? This isn’t smart in any business sense. They do care, and they continue to grow their game. Whether its because they care about you the community or the $$$, it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that they aren’t giving up, and they are trying. But there’s enough slander and name calling and down trodding of this title and its employees to make anyone want to quit working on the game. There’s more than a dozen ways to play this game, one way isn’t the right way. But if you don’t enjoy it don’t trash it because your own opinion in your mind means more than everyone else.
The fans, the players, the consumers, they are what keep this going. Give them a reason to stay, to log in and be part of the world, and they will. And in my opinion that’s what they have done and continue to do to the best of their ability. I just thank the MMO gods that Arenanet is not NCsoft entirely. I wish them luck, and hope that the players can find what is really special about this game before giving up.
I went down to the local BB&B and they said I could only get one per day.
Also, they said if I didn’t want to pay for it, I could do the following:
– empty trashcans 0/5 (0%)
– update price tags 0/10 (0%)
– revive employees 0/5 (0%)
– greet customers 0/25 (0%)
– sweep aisles 0/10 (0%)Thankfully reviving the employees only requires a trip to the nearby Starbucks.
Just make sure you complete the heart quest, cause your not getting one coffee bean until you do :P
I am amazed that by playing a few hours a day you managed to get to level 80 in a week. You must be a very skilled player.
I consider a “few” hours to be 2-4 hours. I can only manage 5 levels in 4-5 hours via personal story and completing an area map.
Ditto.
I play a few hours a day and it took me over a month to get one toon to Lvl80 – no PvP, WvW or dungeons just plain PvE. I just don’t understand the thought process here.
“Rush” to Lvl80 and then steam roll all the lower level content when over leveled for it?
(and complain that the game is to ‘easy’)
“Farm” game elements for gold/Exotic gear and then complain the game is to ‘easy’ or ‘grindy’.
I really hate the rush to 80. I didn’t want to level fast, I wanted to explore the game. But the keyword there “explore” is probably what leveled me the most lol.. I wanted to try dungeons when I hit the appropriate level, but most people wanted only 80’s.. Which seemed a bit ridiculous.. Once I found a guild the game was much better, but now I still have that mentality that I won’t be good enough in dungeons unless I’m 80. So whether or not it’s true I still stay away from dungeons and just grind or do what I normally do. I still enjoy the game, but feel like when I started the community was very against doing dungeons with anyone who wasn’t 80. And that was very disappointing.
Now my thief on the other hand.. I’ve been running through lands, doing hearts, even maxing crafts and omg.. It’s like she doesn’t want to level haha. I think its because I actually want that character to hit 70/80. So it is torturing me :P
I bet we will see a bunch of ppl complain that they got to get in a car and drive down there to buy them or worst yet wait for them to be shipped to there home.
Lol you forgot “Sorry EU, these are US only and can’t be shipped anywhere else.” :P
oh look another pvp’er moaning… how original
If you’ve a problem with these kinds of posts, it’s best not to respond to it and let it fall off the front page instead of feeding it. All you did was break the TOS by spamming.
The post itself is breaking TOS (no I quit posts)
Human skill Hound of Balthazar I think
Why not just sell them on TP if they are useless lol? They are like 3c each, if you have 2 stacks and don’t use why not make some money.
So now Bed bath and beyond is in on the RMT too!
They were RMT before the laurels, look at their prices! :P
I personally find GW2 much more rewarding loot wise than any of those games as well. I can spend 12 minutes online and have enough gold to buy almost a full armor set of rare gear. Maybe I’m just in my own little bubble
Care to share this amazing 12minute secret, of getting 3gold every 12mins sounds amazing, as each rare now is about 45plus silver times six for a set…
I think you are in some lucky bubble..
And no the loot is far inferior to most other mmo’s i’ve ever played, even the bad ones, the game aesthetically is great, sadly many game mechanics bring it down..
All my grinds are listed in the perceived loot forum thread. Video in HD and pics.
I do not sell rares, I salvage them and get 1-3 ectos which is about 38s or at most around 1g+.
If people think GW2 is the grindiest MMO of all time, they seriously need to play FFXI for 1 year, and then Aion for 1 year.
You do realize people stayed clear of those two MMO’s for a reason, people said they were insanely grindy, so i for one ignored them..
Guildwars 2 actively said “no grind” and people took their word for it, true or not there’s a big difference in that alone..
leveling does feel grindy at times, and resources in this game feel downright “Asian Grindy” to me, and i played Rohan, Perfect World, Runes of Magic, RF Online etc, to me they felt less grindy and had a better loot system than GW2..
I just don’t see the grind in a game where you can hit 80 in 1 day to 1 week. And thats just playing the game. Maybe 2-3 weeks for more casual people. But the fact that all exotics share the same stats means that 80 can also be very well geared quickly. Aion wasn’t grindy to me either, not as grindy as FFXI. But GW2 is definitely less grindy than FFXI, Aion, WoW, Tera. I personally find GW2 much more rewarding loot wise than any of those games as well. I can spend 12 minutes online and have enough gold to buy almost a full armor set of rare gear. Maybe I’m just in my own little bubble, but I started in FFXI, so anything after that when people say the word grind I just laugh.. This is a very casual game, my son played for 2 days-about 1 hour a day or two. He had leveled to 7, gathered about 12 materials, and made around 6 silver just from drops. He’s 6 years old.
And people didn’t stay clear of those games, they came in hoardes. More so Aion because FFXI is pretty darn old now. But it still has a huge player base, despite its many flaws.
Only $20? Not bad :P
MMOs always end up changing to what the hardcore wants. Every single time.
But Guild Wars 2 isn’t like any other MMO, be optimistic :P
If people think GW2 is the grindiest MMO of all time, they seriously need to play FFXI for 1 year, and then Aion for 1 year.
Please note that although you did not address this specifically to me, I no where in my post said “grindiest MMO of all time”, I said it was the grindiest game I had ever played.
I think that’s what makes the post so “relative”. In order to remove bias, and attain the most accurate rating of a game, people really need to experience a wide spectrum of MMO’s. GW2 isn’t perfect, nor is any other MMO, but it takes much of what every MMO in the past has done wrong and made it better. My personal experience is that this is a very friendly, casual type game compared to about 10 of the top rated MMO’s out there. But to each their own, just remember various aspects of MMO’s that you experience are only relative to your overall experience. But not necessarily an accurate portrayal of the true aspects of the game.
Yea, people tend not to want to admit when they are wrong unless forced to do so. Whether or not loot is/was/will be nerfed we may not ever know. But it definitely isn’t a common drop rate that people experience. Mine seems okay mostly, but I’ve seen so many posts I do wonder why its so different. I’m okay if they made a mistake. or even if they didn’t just to try and fix the problem people are experiencing, some more obvious than others. Just don’t go all Lance Armstrong on us for a year or two to do it :P
If people think GW2 is the grindiest MMO of all time, they seriously need to play FFXI for 1 year, and then Aion for 1 year.
I wish we could have log files to send them, this feature is no longer available. That system would greatly improve information players were able to provide. Aside form that i know most games give GM’s the power to spawn any item in game or mob. Knowing this I would think that they could simply spawn tons of mobs and become invincible, and see the drop loot tables effect. The problem however i might see with this is:
a. It would be server/time/area/mob specific.
b. It would be a very long project as you would have to have them use various amounts of MF. This includes MF gear, food, etc.
I’m only slightly familiar with programming but I would guess that they could also check the programming itself. But this can be very tedious and any changes can have a chain reaction. In short I don’t have a perfect answer, as I’m sure neither do they. All we can do is provide the best “player based” info we can and hope for the best. There are so many variables to check in this game, it could take some time. Something many people do not wish to wait for. As for me, I’m still here in Orr doing the “Death…Goood!:” part of my day ^^ I know RNG is never an easy thing to make in a game, I have a good guild to keep me entertained while I wait for whats to come in this pretty amazing game.
I’ve gotten some pretty cool things like full makeover and hair makeover. Also its always nice to get some more keys Heres some things ive gotten from boxes:
http://s965.photobucket.com/albums/ae137/bruce_w/GW2%20Keys/
Some of these are repeats after opening with more keys, each of which were only 5-10 keys used not including the keys that drop from boxes after opening.
There’s a few things I consider “lottery” in this game, BL chests, Laurels that buy Mats, and the Karma boxes in Orr. They are fun, just know the game your playing
you can get the ring by just doing the daily. That isn’t bad. Back item is probabaly the harder one.
You still need 30 laurels for ONE amulet and 35 laurels PER ring.
That’s effectively 60 days of dailies plus the two monthlies to get 3 pieces of Ascended gear (for one character.)
Coming from GW1, it seems absurd to play the game for 2 months to gear a SINGLE character with 3 max-stat pieces.
In GW1 Factions and Nightfall, you can make it to max level within a month easily. And by that point, you should have enough platinum to buy a full set of max-stat gear.
Why is it so much about gear? very little in this game depends on gear. In gw2 much of the game is skill>gear. For the shiny stuff, idk. I’m ok with my exotics.
“I like to go to various areas every day. (Not Orr. It is ugly, tedious and annoying.) = Not playing the game right.
I do not like dungeons. (People are rude, mean and you have a chance of being kicked for no reason just before completion, or yelled at for the smallest infraction of some ambiguous “rule” = Not fun.) = Not playing the game right.
I do not like to “farm an area or event over and over” This feels like cheating, whether it is or not, and my internal moral compass says do not do it. = Not playing the game right.
Keep in mind in Guild Wars 1, I was Legendary Cartographer, Legendary Elite Skill Hunter, and Legendary Vanquisher. This means I saw every bit of every map in the game several times, had every skill in the game that could be had, and killed every single mob in the game on Hard mode.
But Guild Wars 2? I don’t play right, because I do not farm, I do not grind, and I do not cheat or game the system.
[/quote]
Orr has vastly improved from before with drops. I realize it can be a bit “dead”, but its only one thing you can do in GW2. You paid for the game I assume, and you should get your moneys worth from it. It isn’t cheating to do the same events over and over, its how you farm and grind. But this is just one aspect. You can try dungeons with guild members, this should be the fun part. If you have a good guild in any game, anything you dislike is put off by it. What I mean is, you need a good social aspect to make the not so fun things seem better. Regardless of whether or not it is tedious, any task is more fun with friends. Everyone enjoys playing different ways and that’s perfectly fine. If you no longer enjoy the game you can take a break and come back. That usually freshens it up. Or you can choose another game to play to replace, or add to your MMO time. In the end it isn’t GW2’s fault that someone doesn’t like it, its on the player/consumer. The world is all about freedom and doing different things to find happiness. If you cannot find happiness down one road, then there is a thousand more to travel. GW2 is still new in my opinion, and has much to offer over time. I give it the time it deserves before making any judgement on it. People said angry birds was a fad, was only fun for a short time. They have enough money to compete with Disney in the next 10-15 years. Just a thought.
