Thanks for your reply. For a variety of reasons many seem to associate MMO’s as a quasi-Facebook world where social grouping is required. However, while that perhaps is true for I am certain the majority of players, it is not true for everyone.
Thus, as discussed here: http://www.gw2bnc.com/2012/04/guild-wars-2-something-for-everyone-almost/
The Solo Player
The solo player has become an important audience for modern MMOs. It has become nearly impossible for a MMO to succeed if they leave out the solo player. They are everywhere in today’s online world…"
Ah I see, but in the end it IS an MMO. And must support that, because the majority of the players want that type of social aspect. No one wants to log in and see no one in a game that is defined as a Multiplayer game. As the devs and designers have made this game to suit multiplayers first, and solo players second. There are many aspects you can do alone:
Level to 80
Do story until the very last part, in which you already know whats going to happen whether you complete it or not.
Craft
Explore
PVE mobs
PVE dragons (granted others are there but does not require group)
WvW
Spvp
Many aspects do cater to single players. But in the end this IS an MMO, first importance beyond all else is to create a community. This is impossible without having several people. Also much of the content is supported through gem store purchases, you can solo a large percentage of the game without ever buying anything from teh store. The problem here is then there is no support for new content. So in turn things are offered like event items etc to bring people together. The most important thing in an MMO beyond its functionality is its community. And a good MMO community is not made up of 3 million solo players.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs
Check out the very base important aspects of a persons pshycological needs. They include people. Our game world is no different.
“Luckily, I find myself enjoying a few of these different player types. I believe I will find a nice home in GW2. I also believe that GW2 has covered enough of its bases that it will be a major hit in the industry and will satisfy millions of players for many years to come.”
tldr: You cannot please everyone.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
Nah that guy is lying his kitten off. If 5g/hour were in any way doable by the majority of the playerbase, everyone would have at least one legendary by now.
I can make about 2-3g an hour, but that’s not to say everyone can. It depends what you do really.
I would go further and offer special skins or town clothes only available by real money gems purchase. I would also make major content expansions also only available to those willing to pay developers in real currency instead of game gold. Arenanet knows how much real life currency I have rewarded them with for their game. It should be worth something more than a laugh for not being a proper troll.
Yea skins would be cool too, in a way that didnt make it so u buy 5 cards and get the same 5 outfits heh.
I’m not sure I understood your post are you asking for proof that the story requires a group for last part? “To complete this personal story, you must finish The Ruined City of Arah (story).” http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Victory_or_Death
I’m not being rude or anything I’m just not sure what you were asking, You do need a group to finish the personal story as the final step is a group dungeon. But this is only 1 part, and it brings players together as a MMO. Being able to finish this entirely solo would mean that a chunk of the game does not encourage group play. You can also help on story quests, although I wish there was a small reward for helping, its fun nonetheless.
“The story is played from one character’s perspective for that character’s story. Other players can help with another player’s story but are not able to make choices which affect the outcome, though they can choose to accept the outcome as their own.1 The story instances scale with the number of players participating.”
" While your personal story is meant to be just that—personal—bringing friends along introduces the multiplayer element that we want to accommodate. This is a multiplayer game, after all! Just like dynamic events, personal story steps scale up to the number of players participating. In some cases, there are elements added when a multiplayer experience would otherwise seem odd: the golem tournament, for example. While the player whose story is being told controls the golem, what do the other players do? Well, they form a mini-golem support team, of course!"-Leif Chappelle

Title is misleading. You may need to change that as “The Game is dead for ME as a casual solo-duo player”.
Does it really bother you that much?
Think they were referring to how broad the statement is. Like saying “the game is dead” assumes everyone is in agreement, and that its factual. Broad statements like that make people think its more of a qq thread rather than a constructive post.
Do you not see the irony in what you just posted?
No, no I do not lol

“GW2 feels dead to me as a casual/duo player”
I think minimum 15 people (assuming they are active, or at least 15 active at a time) is a guild number that could possibly complete these. Some more difficult than others of course, but I think 15 steadily active people is a good start.
Has auto loot pets/minis been discussed? Or stealth revealing minis, or instead stealth revealing pets ie ranger?
Hey Reaper, you are playing this game wrong. You cannot enjoy it, it cannot be fun for you. You need to quit RL, play as work so even your small guild can afford to buy influence. Or just spend real money every month and so. 100G is really cheap.
100gold via gems = about $90 :P
Well, hmmm. 100 gold via gems is about $90, farm it out among nine members to make it $10 each . . .
Doable, but I wouldn’t advise it.
This may sound silly, but I’ve spent like 60+ gold maxing out my personal guild I use for banners, just for fun :P I have almost every upgrade my 400+ member guild does heh Bank space is always nice, as are banners and karma buffs
If not, I predict many more 30% off sales – which considering the game has only been out six months is IMHO a very bad omen.
I think your view of omens may be off. If discounts in early businesses is a indication of a failing business, then I’m wondering why Walmart, Petco, Gamestop, and about 3 Billion other stores have done so well when they had sales for the first 6 months – 1 year. >.>
How do furniture stores even exist? They’re always doing sales!
IKR! and car dealerships OPEN with sales lmao

Once you earn enough influence for upgrades, its good to buy and activate the influence buff and have your guild push to whatever that buff may be. Members can also purchase small amounts of influence with coins, or use guild items from black lion chests.
The whole argument that small guilds cannot partecipate this is invalid.
You can buy 50k influence with 100g. Even a very small guild of 10 people can gather 10g each (which is the income of one, single day of normal play) and buy 50k influence.
Just organize a day of guild fractals and you’ll get that money in 24 hours.
Tell that to the 30 page thread about loot, where people claim its impossible to make 1 gold a day :P To clarify, I’m not stating this update is impossible for small guilds, just stating some facts. Previous post.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
Why do we need small guilds again?
If you want to band together with your friends you are still allowed to do so by representing two guilds and making sure the bigger one understands your stand. But do not expect to be rewarded for a group of 5 active players at a time in the guild -
a small guild makes no difference than a 5 man pug.
Every guild makes a difference no matter the size. If they contribute to the game actively and are a positive influence to the game they are just as valuable as a 500 member guild. Small guilds are also beneficial in WvW for targeted advances and other purposes. For PVE small guilds with active players usually make events and want to become larger so in some instances contribute more to the game than large guilds.
As far as how influence works here’s the link: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
50000 influence? Really?
oh sad, our guild is kinda new, so we only have 22k >.<
time to buy guild influence for 20 gold = 20 k influence
20g only gets you 10k influence ^^; 2g per 1000 influence. 100g for 50k influence.

Will it ever be possible that GW2 will add on extras for purchasing gem cards in stores like Gamestop? Currently NCsoft offers this with Aion/Lineage II. It would be cool to get an item each purchase like maybe something you get from BL chests. I’m not saying add something that will give buyers unfair advantage, I know this goes against the model. But perhaps:
Random non account bound pets
Box of 5-6 dyes common-rare
Boosts
Influence consumable
Any of these or other ideas. But by no means do I want the store to be like Aions store ^^; Just an idea.
What would you want to see from a gem card purchase in store?
A link to NCsofts card addition http://na.aiononline.com/posa
It could even be for Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2, so that players who play both games could get a bonus.
Great chart Geotherma.
I find it really silly how so many think it does nothing. They’re just going on assumptions and riding the RNG for only a moment instead of seeing the whole picture.
MF does help. But the real question is whether having the extra stats or MF is better. If people are just farming zones for hours, then having more MF is going to be a huge help. If they’re just running dungeons, fractals, or WvW, then stats might be more beneficial.
If those people who think MF does nothing are farming, then hey, their loss.
Thanks, I wish it was a bigger scale but haven’t had the time because of college. But as far as MF vs Stats I “think” you can get 130MF alone w.o gear. Granted you need food, buffs etc, but it takes away the need for a full set that could otherwise be devoted to a nice trait line or build. But I agree with Chickenshoes, aside from Fotm where you need AR, its not too big of a deal since most of it is about skill.

Guild Wars 2 sure is a job, but only for some 300 people working hard on this game in
Seattle. For everyone else, it’s a hobby. Give the team some cred for their hard work, and take the game a bit less serious.
likaugfeiuawe kitten . I was all ready for an interesting comment to the thread, thanks for ruining my morning :P
And yes, after reading forums, twitter, I can definitely see between developing the game further and babysit… moderating forums, they have much work they were doing. ^^
Yes and people still like to argue that the game’s population is growing instead of dying.
I mean just face the fact that the game is not doing well although it is a fun game. Players are quitting and very few new players are rising. There are many testimonies of people taking a break from this game a for a month or two then coming back and seeing next to no one any where.
And from my experiences from guesting, most servers don’t have many players in the mid level areas.
This is probably because it takes about a week to hit 80 ^^; I just wish the 800 people at Maw would try WvW so we could stop being 3rd :P
I don’t think i posted this before, I haven’t seen. But would really like to see the boosts/buffs work for all XP gained not just kills.. My low levels or mid levels can never make use of these boosts because they cannot kill fast enough to make them worth purchasing/using.
Last log in times definitely ^^
The sample sized used in the video to determine ecto’s from rares is way too small. You need way more than 5 salvages(about 30) a trial to actually have actual statistics.
That’s exactly what I was thinking, but still…is this a coincidence?
Coincidence indeed. If you randomly roll dice 30 times in a casino and win $1000 does that mean that the next 30 dice rolls will win you $1000? Small statistics are small.
Obviously coincidence is a huge factor, but magic find has absolutely nothing to do with salvaging?
As far as what the devs said “They only work on creature kills”, unless there is another post correcting it that’s all I could find so far, sorry. If we are lucky and the moons align, and the moa sing in perfect pitch under starlight in november, maybe a dev will answer this ^^;
CAN I Transfer to another server?
Will the transfer be free of charge?
I read on the gw2 wiki that by deleting all your characters you are free to choose a different server. Is this true, and has anyone tried it?
Bonus Question : If I am able to transfer freely will I be able to keep stuff I have on my bank? Such as gold and items?
:(
I’ve heard if you have no characters you can transfer free, haven’t found the info yet. As for bank, I assume without a character you have no bank.
Found.
The transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; in other words, if your account has no characters or you delete all existing characters first, you will be prompted to select a new home world after creating a new character, free of charge.1

Double check the rank and the rank setup of the guild. They should NOT be able to if they don’t have permissions. If they can I’d send an email to Anet about it in case of glitch with pics etc.

Meanwhile in GW2..
LIES!
The player base is declining!!
I heard it on the internet so it must be true!!!
Duh, how else would we know everything? I’m just glad Oprah invented it when she did, where would we be now without it.
Al Gore invented the internet. Who is this Oprah you speak of?
Oh my bad, just some guy on TV I think.
You have to do huge scales of loot to see the difference. I posted the pic elsewhere but this is just a small sample, but in my time playing this has not changed from the start to now and remains the same average for me.

Agreed.
I have seen more people tonight than I have ever seen playing.
And I saw a flying tractor pass my house with a naked lass driving.

The thing is, with the droprates being as low as they are, you’d need an incredibly high amount of pulls to find any discernable difference.
Assuming a 1/1000 chance to pull an exotic on a random mob, and a 2/1000 with 100% magic find, you’d need roughly 65000 pulls to be 95% sure that there actually is a difference, if my math is right (of which I’m not totally sure, but it should be in that ballpark).I’m not questioning the usefulness of magic find…I have actually noticed a difference after switching to my set. I’m just wondering what does it do exactly. So much speculation here and there about what it affects and what it doesn’t. I really wish ArenaNet would just say what it does…like they do for power, precision, etc. I don’t see the big deal.
“Magic find
They only work on creature kills, chests however have a better table then normal kills. We wanted to avoid the game play of killing a boss and then having to equip your whole Magic Find set before opening the chest.
Also magic find is calculated from when the creature is killed so it’s also not viable to use your normal gear set kill a boss then switch to magic find."
Source Isaiah Cartwright https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Magic-Find-Chests/first#post598159
“It does not work on the Mystic Forge, magic find only effects the loot generated from killing monsters. (this includes crafting materials, higher tiers of loot like rares & exotics… etc… )
Granted Zomoross is mighty and I’m sure he randomly gives more favor to those who are wearing a tin foil hat in real life and are spinning in their chair while clicking the forge button he is evil like that.”
It simply increases the hcance of getting a rarer item instead of a lesser item. This does not mean when you see a porous bone that it could have been an exotic though. Basically better quality loot.

Omnomberry Bar 30% and guild buff 10% for my daily PVE stuff. For fun when i have the chance I go 230MF. With the 30% I make around 2-4 gold now an hour in Orr, so I’m ok with that. The 230 MF netted me 11g in 1 hour ish. Which was pretty sweet heh but a lot of concentration.
“If you have any unused Tournament Tickets you may exchange these for Gold, Silver or Copper " sweet lol
You left out the most important word from that quote – “chest”! We are not going to be given cash for our tickets, just chests. :P
Well are we talken Charlize Theron chest, or Jormag chest, whats with the complex speech, give it to us straight Arenanet! :P
Sorry for the epic copy/paste fail hehe
I like having something to day everyday, otherwise I’m just sitting here waiting for FFXIV/TESO and my PS3 to get fixed… ::sadface::

A big part of it is tagging properly and the current tagging mechanic which is being worked on. Its neither entirely gamers or the games fault, but it doesn’t help if there is both heh. After over 2 months, about 12+ hours a day, I noticed a large difference in drops when I switched to a complete MF set with buffs. The other drops were done with 30%, the new with 230MF. What isn’t recorded is the 8 rares I got soon after making that picture, which when averaged in is a pretty different outlook alltogether. I’ve yet to see a decrease when using the 230MF, but of course it also takes many buffs etc to reach that. Which I’m not about to use every day :P
12+ hours a day O_O
Yea its a long story lol… 739 hours 60 days.
You have to log in to do dailys as much as you have to climb Mount Everest. It’s an option, not a forced mechanic. Weeklies would be fine aside from the fact less casual players would finish them in 1 hour and not play until next week. Earlier my wife had to do her daily, she had 45 minutes until work. I told her where she could go for teh various things and she was done with 15 minutes to spare. This included underwater and events and crafting. I’m almost done with my monthly but may miss because I can never seem to finish a dungeon.. for some stupid reason or another.. So I just don’t do them ^^;
Lol, nothing like actually getting designers and devs commenting on posts. Wish more games had this going on.
On a tin foil hat related topic, clearly Colin accidentally said pistols because the new expansion will be using them. I’ll see your dual pistol warrior, and raise you 1 dual Asura wielding Charr Warrior.

The game seems to be dying, I fear for ghost towns
If the game dies and all its players die in game, Orr will be entirely full of zombies. If I’m the last one left it will be like heaven for me ^^ Imagine all the giant moldy bags…
Not sure if anyone reads twitter anymore so here’s some info on upcoming things. Aside from your sly indirect, direct comments I can see some of your points. However, this game is still developing and I doubt they want to release numbers as they do not correctly identify how well a game is doing at all times. Just as much as the financial status of the company does not. For the sake of turning the thread into a giant bickering session I’m just going to say that they are making money off Guild Wars 2, possibly more than any game from NCsoft. To continue this trend they will surely do whatever it takes to keep people playing/buying the game. Also, I wasn’t stating that you said the game is dying, the other threads that push this sentiment were only exacerbated by yours is what I was getting at. The thread has gone on a downward spiral from the start. But perhaps its my fault for even reading a thread that stated the exact opposite of what a dev just said weeks ago. But you and me, we can still be friends. I’m going to send you cookies from gem store as soon as they are available, and we can take pics of us in the maybe or maybe not upcoming expansion so people don’t think everyone in game wants to kill or harass each other.
Uncommon “should” mean masterwork or above. Currently there are some bugs where the new loot boxes as well as mobs aren’t working as intended. From my research i notice a large improvement with MF, but this depends on how much you have. I don’t have my full info ready yet but I have a quick pic that might help show which is below.
MF helps you find rarer items as opposed to average items. The exact formula is unknown and I do have a few ideas on how it works but I’m still working on that. For now, in my mind I’ve found enough info aside from the small data collection below, to prove to me MF is useful in drops. How its applied to bags/chest etc, I am not 100% sure on. I believe it does not affect chests from what I’ve heard. The more rarer the salvage kit the better chance at a ecto drop. But this is still a chance, and RNG is RNG.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/ncsoft-earnings-report-shows-healthy-growth/Psst. If you’d taken my advice and gone reading back through the thread, you might have noticed this snippet:
Okay, since there is clearly a great number of people posting in this thread who don’t understand the terms we’re working with, a quick recap.
Total sales != number of active players != number of concurrent players.
Total sales refer to the total sales of the game (which, to date, is over 3 million copies). “Active players” refers to the number of people still playing, which is somewhere between 0 and 3 million. “Concurrent players” refers to the maximum number of players online at the same time.
All three of those links refer to sales, which in no way gives any indication of how many players the game still has.
See? It’s important to read a thread before replying, so that you don’t end up saying something that has already been covered.
Ah yes, my skill in reading through qq has declined a bit over the years. But the models that are followed for active players are usually Subscription games, where you can more accurately calculate how many players are “continuing on”. Whereas people in Guild Wars 2 know that they don’t have to log in, so its very difficult to compare this game to a free to play or a sub game by any standard. But after the 3000 “game is dying/dead” threads, it gets hard to take any of them seriously or draw any sort of intelligent information from. An expansion is upcoming, and I assume that this will bring more players back. Soon you can send gem items to people as well, which will also help their profits and increase the fun of the game. They will be focusing on global holidays which I’m sure the global player base will enjoy. From experience with past MMO’s and noticing the trend in players to call apocalypses far too early, I simply dislike most of the posts solely because they offer no optimistic points. This isn’t generalized, but as a whole it is very hard to find people who can constructively comment on the game from both sides. They are also releasing more rewards for our favorite areas, this should help as well. They are learning as they go, and its a good sign for things to come.
Seems like their doing “ok”. /shrug I just play the game, plenty of people here.

I would just be me, a normal human. But I would make my wife a Mesmer, because 3 clones and me.. well I’ll just leave it at that.
you might think thats good in bed. but at any one time there can be 5 instances of you in GW if not more, now the bed room would be fun but imagine all that nagging, “is the house clean, did you get this?” imagine 5-6 pmsing clones, pregnant clones………moody clones……..ya not that fun….
Luckily they only last a few seconds :P
they last until their target is dead, which sound to be you so yeah until you are dead is how long they last :P
Not gonna lie, after 5 that is probably the outcome :P
-“Companies only start to hide things when they’re not doing as well as they want it to appear.”-
“The game has enough bugs and problems to worry about, they don’t need people predicting the end of the game at month 7. If the game developer says player activity is slowly increasing, then most likely they are telling the truth. Simply stating the numbers can cause people to panic for no reason. It’s obvious to most that games have a flow, ups and downs, and after initial release. So stating numbers tells nothing. Do you see regular updates in WoW when a new MMO comes out stating “We lost 3 million people, 1 million came back”? No. That’s just an example. But seriously, if you want to talk about decrease/increase you need to realize some obvious things:
Holidays
School
Work
Season
Peak Times
Servers
Locations Played from
Players playing other MMO’s on the side -Beta testers included for new MMO’s
Console gamers trying the new games that just released, breaking from GW2”
