FFXI had a great translate function, you could auto translate some short phrases into any language. Was really helpful.
Yeah, that was a great one as the phrases were pre-translated instead of having some system trying to interpret. You would select something from a list – like “yes” or “no” – and it would be shown to everyone in their own language.
So much fun with that function “Party?” “Yes, please.” or “Party?” “Can I have it?”
I still say it like that in some games I play lol
Trolling me……..
Just curious if there will be any plans for the holiday, we could use some pots of gold or some magical find :P
Maybe some event MF food with a twist?
Green outfits?
Candy coins?
Idk.. anywho, just curious. To answer another question in the same thread, same question for easter :P Even though I’m working on my own event, I can’t do it for every server. For everyone else, anything you would like to see in store or in game for the two holidays?
I could have sworn you could log off, waypoint, switch characters and the food tray would still be up. Now it seems to disappear anytime the person placing it leaves in any way. Did this change, or am I imagining lol?
Tonight in Queensdale =)
Today.
15Jackalopes
Jack the Jackalope has been seen near Shiverpeak Mountains – specifically Hunter’s Lake on the Northern Shiverpeaks world. Supposedly Jack drops free banners and event boxes during the day around Hunter’s Lake and Queensdale. If you see him keep an eye out, you never know what he will do…
There is a theory he is planning an Easter Event, but only time will tell.
So, have you seen Jack?
I’m working on a video of bl salvaging at least 200 rares to get an idea of a rate, not done yet obviously but maybe it will help give an idea heh.
Who is Felicia Day?
Felicia day is the voice you hear from Zojja in game. She has been in supernatural and other shows, she is also in “The Guild”. I remember about 30 actors/actresses from the most “b” movies ever, who are now epic superstars. Its funny to see them before they were famous. ie The Outsiders.
I heard there was a famous voice actor in GW2, someone besides her, a guy. But I’m not sure who people were referring to.
So lemme get this straight….
She’s hired by the game as a V.O.A.
Is given a collectors edition as a nice bonus, she makes a video of her opening it, and then makes no further comments, video’s or indications that she’s playing it after that and you assume she’s a legitimate answer?
cos like…logic… who needs THAT right?
Sorry let me be more obviously specific..

Ps whats with all the anger?
Whether she plays “today” or not who knows. But seriously actors/actresses have busy lives if they do play I’m sure they of all people meet the definition of casual.
Anger? where on earth did you get the impression I was angry?
I’m simply pointing out that a celebrity who no longer plays gw2, isn’t playing gw2…

6:30 PM – Aug 26, 2012could you please post something a little more….recent? otherwise she’s not playing gw2, merely “played” the game. I once ate calamari and it was ok, should we all assume I’m not a firm advocate of calamari and a shoe in to be it’s spokesperson? :/
I’m not having a go at anyone, I’m just pointing out the two obvious issues with this thread and the logical flaws in the answers.
And for the record, I’m no longer a GW2 player myself by my own definition of what a player is.
“Has anyone come across any interviews with people talking about gw2? "
Being constructive, and no I do not have newer info. A celebrity did the voice for an in game character and “did” play at one time. That answered the topic at some point. It seems as though your are more attacking than offering information or constructive replies.
“I once ate calamari and it was ok, should we all assume I’m not a firm advocate of calamari and a shoe in to be it’s spokesperson? :/ "
Instead of being snarky perhaps saying nothing at all would have been more appropriate as neither post offers constructive information to the OP or the thread.
I offered an example of the fault in logic, that’s not being snarky just that you’re being very loose with what you consider to be “a celebrity who plays gw2”
The correct answers to his question was, around launch we know of several celebrities, one of which being the zoija voice actress were actively playing GW2, recently very few if any have mentioned it. But that’s not to say that they don’t play it, just that they’re not mentioning it.
If you’re going to use outdated information, perhaps it’s better if you don’t say anything as it’s potentially misleading.
And if you take offense to that, well might want to consider what you said first.
More often than not there’s a LOT of hypocrisy when it comes to claims of ad hominem… I wasn’t attacking you, merely questioning the reasoning behind offering up comments from last year… but as always I “have” to be attacking to disagree right? can’t question anything… yeah?:/ ridiculous.
Fixed, just for you.
" I know there have been a few celebrities in the past who have publicly said that they play certain mmos so I was wondering what kind of a celebrity player base we have in gw2. "
Answer: Felicia Day “did” at one time play the game, also she is the voice of Zojja. I’m uncertain as to if she plays any longer, but I hear she is very busy with her current work. Celebrities usually get paid to speak about products, as far as agents go though I imagine they push celebrities not to endorse without pay. I did some more looking but the game is still new so who knows. I’m sure game designers, programmers might play the game, and in some peoples mind they might be considered celebrities in a way. I can picture other MMO makers player through level 80 and comparing their game to this one, but thats just me, I have no proof :P
Player hosted events like me :P
Chris Kluwe I believe he tweeted about playing since launch, but can’t find anything else on him.
So lemme get this straight….

I would quote john quoting john but come on. He’s said if they changed it, they would tell us in the patch notes.
If the arenanet wether man tells me it’s sunny outside and I look out the window and I see rain; I’m going to take an umbrella.
I don’t really care what anyone says. I trust data from experimentation. Run the numbers yourself.
John could say anything he wants; I have no reason to believe anything he says. I fact, I have no reason to believe anything anyone says.
Then why play at all? Continuing to play only would show that you either enjoy being lied to, or simply don’t believe your own conspiracy theory. Because here in the land of facts and numbers we have answers and can take them as such. Because our $$$ is supporting this company whether or not we have our tinfoil hats on or not.
We are playing a game, not voting for the next politician. Why people take this stuff so seriously is beyond me. I imagine every lead, designer, dev has to take babysitting courses just to be allowed to post on forums. Because half the time instead of being able to post helpful information they have to be busy culling the conspiracy theories that bored people come up with in their heads.
Obviously John Smith doesn’t exist at all, I mean who really has the generic first and last names like that right? Clearly he is an undercover agent from another country, possibly planet, sent here to steal our gems through micro-transactions. He has so far evaded capture by posing as a mild mannered MMO person, but soon the jig will be up.. very soon… MISTER SMITH
Dude you’re going crazy on me. Calm down.
In the world of finance and economics it is common for people to lie and profit from other people’s ignorance. It happens everyday. You can’t trust anyone but; it doesn’t mean you can’t verify thier claims.
Take a look at how much resistance the financial industry is placing on Elizebeth Warren to create a Consumer Protection Agency against predatory financial lending institutions.
I’m calm ^^ The difference here is, you pay, then never pay again. So really they have no purpose plotting against us heh. You never ever need to buy gems to enjoy GW2, and $60 for me anyway, isn’t enough to even worry about. I mean you can’t order delivery for less that $30 per person anymore.. My gas tank is like $70-80 ><. So I can trust a company that is an MMO far more than say a bank/lender etc. I enjoy the game and know that buying gems is entirely optional, whereas in some games you cannot even play without buying out the store.
I think its more on the person, on how they were taught budgeting and money management. If you have the money and you bought the game there’s no harm in supporting it. As for in game economy I could care less how my “hard earned” gold gets spent. Often times I’m giving away items, making events, or tossing 250 stacks of omnomberry bars to friends. I enjoy helping others and enjoy GW2 far more than any other MMO I have played.
Aside from all that its very difficult to call out a company for pixel type economic issues as we don’t have the same tools. I’ve done hundreds of different things learning my averages for just about everything. I know when drops change, I know when they are not equal. Mostly because I spent the first 12-15 hour days over 30-45 days only farming. This helped me understand the drop rate and understand my future plans for what I want to do. Currently I’m hoping to make an easter event, probably toss 40-50g on items for it. Because I know exactly how long it will take me to make that amount simply grinding and doing bosses-3-4days. I’ve posted huge drop rate info in the loot problem thread, I was the first to fraps a vet dropping nothing/dropping a loot chest with porous bones. I too understand that games have flaws, but i help constructively instead of like some people (not directed toward anyone specific) just come here to complain and yell at Arenanet after farming for 1 hour and getting no rares/exotic.
I’ve experimented with 0 MF, 30 MF, 230MF, and i know what works. Granted others may find that me grinding in a non grind game is silly, but its for the benefit of others not myself. Also for those who think I’m crazy for grinding for hours-I came from FFXI :P I love just farming, doing daily’s, chatting with guild and hosting events. Everyone has their own thing, sometimes people just need to sit back and figure out what that is-and this goes with all aspects of life.
FFXI had a great translate function, you could auto translate some short phrases into any language. Was really helpful.
I just bought 20 dollars worth of gems. I havent played regularly for a while now and I am not that serious into the game at the moment because of this thing called life (paying bills, school, etc.)
So why did I buy this?
Because I greatly appreciate you guys as a company and the work you do. I want to do my best to support you. I’m not even sure ill have a use for these gems in the near future but the whole purpose was to show my support. It was the only thing I bought besides the game itself since its release. But all in all I just want to say thank you. You have developed a wonderful game and I couldn’t be happier with it. Keep up the good work.
Wait until you have a few characters to max level in full gear(which isnt hard). Then you feel compelled to complete dailys each day ,guild missions, and fractals.
Two 80’s so far, don’t feel compelled to do anything heh. I log in I have fun, I enjoy the dailys because they would like me to try things I may not do otherwise. Do I have to? Nah. Will I? Probably, if for no other reason than to waste laurels on uni dyes lol
863 Hours played over 2 months. Still loven it.
Yea I was teleporting back and forth, looked like scotty was trying to beam me up drunk.

Sometimes, but mostly my fault lol. What I changed is holding right click down and double tapping the direction, I have had much less problem with this now.
Just to be clear to people who don’t know, you buy books to open the higher trait lines. You do NOT however re-buy the books to change traits. You simply talk to an npc and he resets them for a small fee.
As for the changing traits on the go (I think this is how I read it, correct me if I’m wrong its 2am ^^; ) I think PVE would be fine but not in WvW or Dungeons. At least not yet as classes are not balanced as is.
What would be nice is if you could save trait builds and swap at some point, either through an NPC or a timed limit. Basically Arenanet wants to keep the game simple and not complicate skills and setups more then they need to. So adding too much is going against their vision. And for some the quick and easy skills are a comfortable change from the 7-9 row skill bars and the 300 builds. Sometimes I play with UI entirely off
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
This isn’t a bad idea, but slang is a terrible thing to translate ^^;
I had some problems there too and normally I never experience juking around or lag spikes. I didn’t crash but definitely was lagging, was only like 7 people near me.
Guys my whole point was just to say the only reason I bought the gems was to support anet. Not for in game progression or anything of the like. People like to complain, but regardless of the game’s quality they care about their customers.
Ignore the haters heh The game was well made and is taking leaps and bounds towards even better things.
I won’t try and argue things I don’t understand (like the economy) or things that I don’t really have a clear picture of (like the bots impact) but I will say this – the price of gold to gem conversion is too kitten high!
Prerelease, the notion that the game had the option to buy everything from the gem store with in-game gold sounded great but these days 5 gold (a hefty sum for a casual player like myself) will not even buy me 300 gems.
Its mostly so that people can’t make profit from converting back an forth. Currently 7g 76s buys 300 gems ^^ Though i never convert as gold is pretty easy to make. And I prefer to buy gems outright.
I just bought 20 dollars worth of gems. I havent played regularly for a while now and I am not that serious into the game at the moment because of this thing called life (paying bills, school, etc.)

Agreed. And go for the keys if they ever end up on discount :P Although bag slot upgrades is nice too. I have no problem supporting the game as I’m sure my purchase history reflects heh.
Not all are bound, but this one is a lil annoying. I have 2, some people have 4+ lol. Would love to toss these in mystic forge or something.
I think there should be a soloable, a group style story (the one now), and the explore. The soloable would be similar to story but for players who cannot find groups or want to experience the dungeon minus the stress. Rewards would go:
Solo:Ok (more about experience and learning) Maybe even a daily boss chest from here.
Story:Good (group content should be rewarded, especially for a mode that most dont do)
Explore:Great- rares, and good loot for everyone as this is harder than the rest.

Yes I get many, sometimes right after another its almost humorous :P
Good to know, so likely just a streak of bad luck, thanks.
Yea, I’ve had no keys for a bunch of chests and then get one from almost every one heh I’ve had some pretty strange results but overall was always fun and worth it.
I haven’t had an extra key in one of the chests for some time. Are they still in there?
Yes I get many, sometimes right after another its almost humorous :P
Meh:

Still shows me it’s not worth it in the grand scheme of things.
Based off of people who post on it, not off every opening. I myself never posted to that chart either and I’ve probably opened 400 chests in the last 2-3 months. Just sayen.
I’ve gotten 3+ of all the makeover/hair style/dye kits as well. If I can do a mass opening perhaps next time I will post results on there or here.

You can use a debit card with the Visa or Mastercard logo which allows it to be treated like a credit card, or you can use Paypal. Paypal will allow you to use said card or your actual bank account info to directly debit the funds.
Strange i feel a little alone here in my feeling that the market isnt “corrupt” enough.
JS has by word and from what we have seen of the market quite hands off. Relying on the market to adjust its self rather than trying to micromanage the huge volume of transactions that occour daily to try and please the vocal members of the forums.
Gem prices will rise from simple economics, when the game started it was OMG i made my first gold, it seemed like a fortune now dumping 30g on ectos while they were cheep to knock off my clovers was by comparrison a small amout.
More people have more gold so when some thing like a cute back pack comes along they can buy more gems and are willing to pay more for them. When the sale ends gems drop. I would think it was actually in the interst of Anet to have the gem market totally hands off to encourage free trade back and forth.
I am sure there is a quote from the Devs some where that the price is totally player driven sadly i cant find it at the moment to back my opinion.
“John Smith.4610:
As a quick aside. Gems in the currency exchange are finite. You may buy gems with real money to your hearts content, but if you don’t put any of them gems into the currency exchange the currency exchange’s stock of gems never changes.
John Smith.4610:
Think of it this way. The government can print as much money as they want, that doesn’t mean your bank account has access to that money. The currency exchange does not have access to gem creation. It has a limited stock that players add and subtract from.”

Was this it?
Gold sellers are generally very low paid workers in outside countries. These workers have very few jobs, specifically they focus on one task such as gold farming or monitoring bots.
A different person would do the effort of hacking/phishing/buying accounts with stolen information or in desperate situations from actual revenue. The traditional gold farmer seeks to:
1.Gain gold
2.Sell Gold
1.
a.Gaining gold through players selling for very low amounts, then in turn selling to make profit.
b.Gaining gold through farming, botting, or stolen/stripped accounts.
2.
a.RMT then sells through websites, most of which are simply umbrella companies (fake named sites that all work for 1 real company) each offering a cheaper price than the other.
b.Sells through in game spam, which fortunately is a dead end in GW2 as they lose the account immediately, thus hurting their profit.
Some quick facts about RMT:
The person doing the selling/buying/botting usually gets paid very little to keep costs down. These people usually work in groups in small closed off rooms with many computers and desks etc. Most the time these people are in other countries and sell either-
a.Directly to companies that sell to players.
b.Directly to players via their own site.
Now keeping in mind not all rmt are asian, “bad people”, or evil so to speak. Some may simply be making a small living, but this is besides the point. RMT IS bad, and it IS against the rules of every MMO I can think of.
Arenanet does an amazing job of deleting bots and rmt. I do not log in to RMT spam every single day like some other games I won’t mention.
Now as for the buying gem with the ill gotten gold, imo, this seems false. An RMT is given limited time and are paid for their work. Meaning that if they do not make a good amount of gold they do not get paid, and have limited time to do so. Most likely an RMT will not take a chance on buying gems to inflate/deflate anything. RMT focus on one thing and that is making money as quickly and efficiently as possible.
As for the calling out arenanet on exact numbers, well I can tell you from maybe 12+ years of MMO’s not once have I ever seen a game company give away their tactics on bots/rmt. People like FFXI GM’s would create teams to work on botting/hacking/rmt etc, and they would tell you "X amount of rmt/botters have been banned and X amount of gold has been removed from the system. Beyond that we need not know what goes on. Botting may not be gone, but it certainly is no where near the epic proportions of other games. John Smith has done very well to answer questions in an intelligent and formal manner without simply closing the thread or not caring.
There is a ton of other things to be worked on, there’s a ton of threads that could use the devs, leads,cc’s,cm’s, attention. there are bugs, glitches, imbalances, living story work, development work, all that need attention more than someones wish to understand how security works in someones business. There is a key to understanding security, those on the inside have the tools and know-how, whilst those on the outside know only what they can find or are told. I don’t believe Arenanet is out to get anyone, is hiding things that could hurt the game, or is in any way hindering their own game.
People can continue to bash them, the employees, and their work, but this is all for nothing. if all this thread was is to voice concern then I think it has hit its mark. We all understand it was a bad situation, that RMT are bad and hamper game progression and fluidity, but we cannot call-out these people working on the game every 5 minutes because we want to know exactly how they do every little thing. They aren’t controlling us through some scheme or web of lies. And if I ever had that feeling surely I wouldn’t be here. I spent time under leaders in the military who truly would lie just to hush the concerns of personnel, who would risk lives on hunches or quick plans. What I’m saying is there are bad people out there who are corrupt and look to take advantage of you, of everyone. But this company, this game, is not the rabbit hole and clearly some people have started the drop down the tin foil hat tunnel of illusion.
Why… just why!!
Everyone knows there is nothing remotely of value in those BL chests that is worth the price of the keys, how many XP boosters do you need in a game that gives you silly amounts of it during your leveling process already.. I have 300+ sat in bank doing nowt, just like countless others. Do ya think its worth buying enough keys in the sale maybe…….
Short answer? Yes.
Long answer: For me they are worth it, what isn’t in the pics is the 35g I made off 10 chests from backs, the 7 g off the coin bags, and the countless keys that opened even more chests. But to each their own, I made more off the chests than I could have directly transferring to gold. On top of that I have tons of items for it.

I feel your pain and know how hard this must be, but if you can’t get help from them, you need to help yourself. Since there were so many in the old guild that were inactive anyway, remake the guild. Yes you’ll lose the influence and things you’ve already learned but consider it a lesson hard learned. Considering you still get to keep your guild I think you got out easy. It could have been worse and the rank could have gone to someone who went power-hungry and completely destroyed your guild. Remake it, rebuild from the ashes, heck that could open up for a lot of interesting new names too. A year or so from now you’ll all have a nice laugh about it and I’m sure it will become the running joke for a while. It’s not the end of the world. Dust yourself off, rebuild.
You actually do lose your guild if u want to create another one. I checked the options and got none from the guild registrar and in the guild window itself, the only option i have is to step down. Which is kind of odd. Stepping down would imply I’m actually leading/heading something which obviously I’m not currently.
So I guess if I want to create another guild, I would have to abandon this one. That may not seem such a big deal, but even more than losing all the upgrades and influence I’ve built up, I don’t want to lose my guild name.
I haven’t gone through the whole process but I do know if you “Stand down” (which doesn’t leave the guild, just un represents) the create guild option appears again. After that i can’t say what happens because I haven’t tried. Dunno if this helps.
I read the title and thought “uh…duh”
I think you also get them from map completion no?
Gem Store
Black Lion Chest

“Each day in March we’re putting a different item on sale in the Gem Store! Save from 15% to 40% on boosters, upgrades, consumables and more! Each sale begins and ends at midnight Pacific Standard Time, so make sure to check the Promotions tab in the Gem Store every day in March to see the daily savings!”
Dear person in charge of sales,
Every day you tease me with these sales and very few have interested me. I did grab a few mini pet bundles and ended up with some rare ones-thanks for that. But you and I both know what we all really want, its shiny, its kinda expensive, and it opens boxes. So please if you can soon add the Black Lion keys on there for me and my fellow players. Every day I log in to see what is on sale, its easiest to tell if it is a good item or bad by simply clicking the transfer page. If gems > gold skyrocketed, then I know you have put something nice up there. I’d imagine a good indicater of future pricing for these less popular items would be the gem trade factor. This might help determine what people desire most in game, and what they are willing to spend cash/gems on. As for me, I’m just waiting for that one thing, please don’t make me wait 24 more days.
Sincerely,
A loyal customer.

Think I copied this right lol You can see the differences here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit
Its a personal option to buy these for salvaging, I wouldn’t do it for ectos alone though. You can get these as rewards and from BL chests, if you got them free then theres really no loss whether or not you get an ecto. For expensive upgrades though definitely want to get those back :P

I’m not sure where this 0.9 ecto/salvage figure has suddenly popped up from. My data that I’ve been tracking shows me to net 1.25 ectos/salvage. Of course, I’m only salvaging level 76 and above items (only salvage my own drops/forge products) while I’ve seen people doing mass salvage on items as low as level 68. Can anyone provide any data at all to support this 0.9 figure that appears to have suddenly popped up in the past couple days?
99% of all online statistics aren’t :P
I only use BL salvage kits for rares, have had good luck with them. Should you buy them solely for this? No. But if you get them free go ahead. If you purchased them, use for getting those expensive sigils/runes back.
I get tons of these mostly farming Orr, I believe from bags. the other mats you get are worth plenty as well, and like stated before you could sell those to purchase the fangs.
Uh huh…and now…not
I guess is what we are saying. Did something change?
I’m talking “before” and “now” ^^
Culling isn’t just a bug, it’s more of a hardware issue plus internet latency.
If culling was simply “fixed”, most people would lag like crazy because their computers will not be strong enough to compensate. Only those with $1500 PCs would be able to run the game at all in large scale battles. This would give something EVERYONE would complain about. In order to not screw people with weaker PCs over, there is “culling”. This is why some people who run GW2 on an SSD with a powerful CPU do not really experience culling.
It’s like trying to run Far Cry 3 on a 2007 PC if culling was simply “switched off”.
Factor in internet latency, and it’ll be a big lagfest like the current world event situation in even smaller battles.
With the March update, I’m pretty sure a lot of people are going to start complaining about lag and low frame rates in even smaller battles. I’m almost sure of it.
I’m sorry, what?
I’m running an i5 2500k @ 4.6GHz with crossfired HD6950’s, 120GB SSD, 1080p resolution, 100Mb/s internet connection…
Culling, culling, culling like a motherkitten – PvE much worse than WvW.
I’ve tried all in-game graphics settings…Sure, culling may have been implemented to enable people with budget / old PC’s to play the game but we need an option to turn it off completely. If your framerate suffers, build a faster PC or turn culling back on or lower your settings or play some other game. I dont know how people can expect to play a 2012 title on a 2007 PC, anyway (not directed at you personally, just saying)
Oh, and btw, I have pretty much the same culling issues on my (2007) Q9550 + 8800GT PC… but at much lower frame rates.
4.6ghz on an i5? Eesh, with my ambient temp my computer would melt lol
Watercooling
I have liquid cooling as well, but it can only do so much when your wife likes the house at 75f >.>

Every day these wonderful creatures are slaughtered between the Maw event. They are but one of the many animals that need saving in Tyria. Watch this touching video to see more.

I hope that is enough proof for everyone.
Actual sources, please, not just “look it up on Google.”
Sources? If only 1% of the people used “sources” for their information on these forums :P
I think everyone shares the same TP, that’s a lot of people using it at once, I wouldn’t be surprised to see people buying things instantly after they are up. If we have 500k players and 100k are playing the same TP game I could definitely see why he thinks there are bots. But who knows. Although telling people to look up scripts etc on gw2 on Google isn’t the greatest advice on forums..

I don’t play the TP game, I play the GW2 game.
