An important fact being missed here is that ascended is not a grind at all unless you want instant gratification. Playing the game as normal gets you all the materials you’ll need. If you beat down the door to get to the end as soon as possible, yes, you’ll have to go out of your way to achieve that method. The way to accelerate the process is to, as those define it, grind. You have an option to blast through content but when you get bored because you finished faster based on a method you CHOSE, don’t go and tailor your definition of grindy to your argument because it’s convenient. It’s grindt because you grinded. Don’t want to? Go enjoy the game and get the items at a slower, normal pace.

Players are quick to define any activity they do as grind. “Oh, I grinded world bosses.” “I grinded dungeons.” I grinded WvW". No, you played the game. If you didn’t enjoy yourself then instead of coming here to complain, evaluate why you’re playing the game in the first place.

PvE is just low priority when it comes to balance changes. The class needs more than a little help, and most argue that a complete overhaul is necessary. Seeing as how long the necro has gone with no real progress, a massive overhaul is likely what the debs agree is needed as well. But with the expansion on the way and the changes not completely necessary to make the class viable in PvP, necro is shelved in favor of more meaningful and general changes to class balance.

Necromancer is THE single class not used in organized PvE group play. Nothing in that regard has changed since launch. However as others have mentioned they perform well in WvW and not bad in PvP

I’d like to see new legendary weapons with kind of a sandbox creation mode with a given pallet of usable components. Weapons would have themes but you can literally build the weapon, choosing blade, hilt, details, colors, etc. It would make for a truly unique and legendary weapon, and well worth the effort. For example, having frostfang pulled up in a kind of interface like character creation, where you can alter angles, edges, patterns, and some finer details

I’ve been getting these crashes pretty frequently during world boss fights. I’ve contacted support or numerous occasions, and they recommended me to run the repair tool, which I have, on multiple occasions. It doesn’t resolve the issue. Any other suggestions?

They happen most frequently during world bosses, but it’s happened with no evident cause, and a few times when I pull up a makeover kit menu or hair kit menu.

Event scaling[edit]

Events scale both up and down according to the number of players who are currently participating. 3 Events can scale in a number of ways:
Enemy stats can be increased
Enemies can gain new abilities
New enemy types may appear, including veterans or even champion versions
Enemy count can be increased
Objective requirements may increase
Most events scale for up to 10 players.4 Group events and large scale events such as the finale for meta events will scale much higher. For example, The Shatterer scales up to 100 players.5 Events can detect that players have not performed any actions relating to the event within a period of time and will scale down the event accordingly.

Well the thing is, you aren’t losing anything except the physical item that takes up your inventory space and potentially transmutation charges (which can be refunded). The materials used to unlock the ability to ascend your gear do not change from the materials used to craft the item as it is now. Only now, it’s a clickable upgrade option rather than a thing in your bags.

Think of it like the menu for selecting stats on legendary weapons, however instead of choosing from all available archetypes, you’re choosing from the ones that you have already unlocked/crafted.

People who have crafted whole sets are at most losing transmutation charges, which could easily be refunded upon “consuming” the crafted gear (consuming a piece of gear turns into a transmutation charge).

Guild Wars 2 has a very intuitive interface, and with the introduction of the wardrobe and its various systems (finishers, mini pets, etc), the implications of storage, customization, and itemization are massive.

With the introduction of ascended equipment and account bound legendary weapons, gathering, collecting, and storing gear has become incredibly bulky. Switching ascended equipment across characters through the bank is an effective yet time consuming, clunky process that becomes more of a problem with the more gear players collect.

The solution is the wardrobe’s UI and associated features, and its ability to manipulate item slots (such as skin changing, miniatures, etc.).

This system would store all of the players collected ascended gear not in terms of physical items, but by statistical representation of the items based on the slot it belongs to, through a right click option: Ascend

Ascension of items will be available based on a few criteria:

  • Level 80
  • 500 crafting level in discipline for armor/weapons
  • Unlocked ascended crafting weapon/armor piece through crafting/fractal
  • Unlocked ascended jewelry item through purchase/fractal

Ascended Armor and Weapons

Now, instead of crafting a physical ascended item, players will craft consumable versions of ascended gear that will be stored in the interface and available on an account wide basis:

  • Ascended [insert slot type] Mote

Once consumed, this will give the player the option to right click > ascend their exotic gear based on the ascended stats that they have available. For example, if a player crafts a set of Ascended Zojja’s (berserker) equipment, he can right click his current armor to upgrade it’s stats to that of ascended quality, as well as unlock the ability to add infusions. As players craft more ascended items with varying stats, their access in the “ascension” tab will broaden.

  • Upgrade Components

One of the major issues with this system is the fact that upgrade components are tied to gear, rather than skins. A way to circumvent this problem is adding acquired runes and sigils in a fashion similar to PvP build rune selection exclusively to ascended gear, and only for runes/sigils that are unlocked on the account.

Another solution is to allow the ascended gear to take on the upgrade components of whatever is currently attached to the gear upon “ascending” the equipment. For example, if my exotic gear contains scholar runes when I choose to ascend it, the new ascended quality gear will also take on the scholar runes. Problems with this method occur when choosing to ascend between different stat archetypes.

Ascended Jewelry

Since obtaining this gear is very different from obtaining ascended armor/weapons, ascended jewelry will be unlocked based on purchase, as it is now. The only difference will be that at lv80, jewel/accessory slots become used more as a place holder for stat items than physical items:

Click on Amulet slot > Choose ascended amulet > choose infusion.

In summary, this system is one that is on the brink of implementation. Having ascended items as physical equipment is the last barrier to account wide, horizontal progression. Implementing a wardrobe style stat-selection system will alleviate the burden of gear switching, and make using multiple characters as easy as changing gear.

Final notes

I’m aware of the potential hazards and the holes in my outline, and will address some here:

  • More menus: ANet has been trying to venture away from burden players with systems explanations. However, as this is strictly an endgame interface, I feel as through players will be well enough acquainted with the game’s UI to effectively navigate the changes.
  • Upgrade components: I know I mentioned this in the thread, but I want to talk about it because I think this will be one of the severe hurdles to implementation. I’m doubtful that this system would be designed to store upgrade component changes within the sub menus upon choosing equipment. I’ve made some suggestions on how upgrade components would be handled, but I would like to hear some better ideas. It seems to be the major drawback. This includes Runes, Sigils, Infusions, and upgrading infusions.

I would love to hear some other suggestions/feedback on how players would alleviate the burden of switching 6-16 pieces of gear across characters every time they want to bring an alt to a fractal, or wear ascended gear.

Considering they went about making models for the weapons, I wouldn’t count it out. I hope that the Eternal Blade is Reserved for Underworld related content in the future though, or even a rare drop from the Shadow Behemoth. As much as I would like to see it in game, it’s a very iconic Guild Wars weapon that I would like to acquire through game play rather than BLC. Then again chaos axe got that treatment.

A line of eternal weapons would be cool, and I would definitely not mind getting my hands on an eternal bow again.

Has it been confirmed in the past that Turai Ossa is the ghostly hero from Prophecies?

Given what we learned from PoNR (Ep8) I think the Nightmare Court may actually be Sylvari in their natural form, as opposed to the presumably “purified” Sylvari that are friendly NPC or PC.

Faolin may be attempting to take over leadership of the race in light of recent events.

I’m just curious, would you have been ok if the video had played minus the little PAX advert screen at the end? I assume so, at which point I do understand what you’re saying. But a lot of people won’t know about this and it’s a hugely effective way to get the news out to all players that something big is coming. I agree that it’s a little immersion breaking, but I guess it was the best way for them to do it.

This. There are players that don’t use social media or simply don’t know where to find the information for announcements like this. Considering this method is a medium to contact ALL of their players (who keep up with the story) about a huge announcement, it’s sure to reach the most relevant audience.

Why wouldn’t this be the case? If everyone else in the group is using a build that is proven effective and contributes to success, why should you be exempt? And more importantly, why are they the bad guy when expectations about the current meta are clear?

As always, start your own group if you don’t want to run the right builds.

I think Heart of Thorns is a good title for LS Season 2.

So maybe, after the final chapter gets released, there will be a boxed bundle including all 8 chapters that players, who pick up the game after LS S2 finished can buy.

Instead of paying 150 gems for each episode, they can buy it for 800 gems or 10 bucks, if Anet decides to put out a box to put in stores (for extra visibility).

This is part of current speculation and it’s admittedly not necessarily a bad idea. I just don’t think that they would promote a large panel to announce content that players have already completed.

Maybe i missed it but how is trademarking Heart of Thorns in any way related to PAX?

My fault, this is speculation on my part that the PAX announcement will be GW2: HoT.

So they gonna announce GW2:HoT at PAX without being able to use the Logo until 8th of April?

Is this something that is a requirement of new trademarks? I know nGumball brought it up. Also if that’s the case, are they not allowed to use it for advertising purposes as well?

Serious question, what would you propose as a motivating factor for people to get better? I agree that repairs and death penalty is just a minor annoyance at most. I’m not sure, especially given the current meta, what can be done to make people improve? I guess this goes for any game. What systems have been implemented in other games?

The answer is largely dependent on the type of PVE content you’re interested in. For dungeons and fractals, berserker gear (power prec fero) is highest priority.

For map completion, I would again suggest berserker but it is mostly preference/play style.

For world bosses, power/toughness/vitality is your best bet, as there are a number of world bosses that are unable to be critically hit and have AoE/sustained damage that makes vitality a good resource.

In instances and dungeon content, it comes down to group utility. The best thing a thief brings to the party is damage. This is why berserker gear is optimal, and within the current meta, most public groups require you to run it.

As a side note, if berserker gear is not what you want to run in dungeons, save yourself the headache of joining those groups that require it in the LFG description.
