Jewelcrafting to 500!
I think the problem here is the wall, not the ranger. For the love of Oprah, please nerf the walls!
The new metas for attacking walls in WvW:
New quotes from defenders because of nerf to walls:
… what? conditions across the board are gonna be MORE useful not less… and ofc condition applying skills will be changed, just like stability applying skills got changed, when they added stackable stabilty…
How will conditions be MORE useful with the advent of condi immunity as a boon? It really seems to me like they want to kill condi roamers altogether.
your burn will likely add more than 1 stack of burning, just like the stability changes do
My first impression is no, ill think about it some and edit my post later
EDIT: thought about it, no, they wont refund your gear

No it doesn’t because you do not exclude bad rolls so your chance gets a “reset” for every try.
Again, it depends how you look at it. If you’re unsuccessful 9.999 times, you have the exact same probability of getting a portal (P) on your 10.000th mordrem than a guy who’s killing his first. However, PRIOR to your 9.999 failures, you had 10.000 times more chances to get a portal than the casual guy. It just happened that you didn’t get a single successful realization.
if a chance is 1% with your logic 100 tries equals 100% chance which is not how it works and I hope you know this
This statement is correct as well, but probabilities are an interesting thing to take on. The more times you try something the better your chance is of getting something.
We’ll take your 1/100 chance as an example. When you multiply your chances of failure together (the chance that you fail consecutively), you will figure out your chance of getting something. for this example, there is a 99/100 chance that you will fail to get the item in question. What are your chances of failing to get an item 5 times in a row? That would be 99/100 multiplied by itself 5 times:
9509900499/10000000000 which is roughly 95.1% chance that you will fail to get something (4.9% chance of getting it). The chance of getting an item on the third try is still 1/100. Your chances of getting it will improve to a point that most statisticians would call you cursed by fate if you hadn’t recieved it yet.
At 50 tries, your chances of failure 50 times is roughly 61% (thus theres a 39% chance you would have gotten this item). At 100 times you have roughly 37% chance of failing to get it(that would be failing to recieve the item in question 100 times). At 200 times, your chance of failing all 200 tries is 13.3%. At 300 it is 4.9% chance of failing all 300 times (you would be very angry at having failed this many times). At some point, your chances of failing X amount of times will be so low, that even statisticians will assume it can’t happen (i think the number is 1 in 10^50 which is an insanely terrible chance of something).
When would you consider something to be ridiculous? trying 1000 times to get a 1/100 thing (.004% chance of failing 1000 times in a row to get a 1/100 chance item)? This would of coarse be an ideal system that is untampered with.
So what can be drawn from this?
The droprate for the beta portal is very very low (I’d bet 1/10000 or lower). How many creatures do you think you have slain in the past week? Each one would have a chance to drop this thing (in the correct zones of coarse). The probability that you will recieve this thing will improve with each slain creature (not the chance to get it from Creature X, which will be the same, but the chance that you get it from slaying Y amount of creatures). So what is 100 times out of such terrible odds? Bad, not going to calculate it, but under 1%.
I hope that cleared a few things up
EDIT: too much wall of text-added some breaks
(edited by Gobble D Goop.4081)
I think most of the people on my server are hunting for that beta portal this week. not sure if thats the same with yours, but you might have some more people in there again after the portal hunt ends.
Crippled players should have 400% of the normal aggro radius for all nearby hyenas, as should those low on health.
the fact that this is not in the game is staggering and untrue to what happens IRL. when can we see this immersion breaking issue corrected?
you shouldnt look for decent fights next to a wall where a ranger can get you -_-
threw this idea out in another topic a few days ago:
Bountiful Harvest: roots your pet to the ground (pet can’t move or attack). Pet will now pulse (radius=500) every 10 seconds, this adds 1 stack of might (5s), fury (5s), and protection (5s)(targets =5). 90s CD. pet will remain this way until druid is X distance, pet dies, or F5 is hit again. Master trait to reduce pulse time to 8 seconds.
While pet is rooted, it can have a different F2 ability that could provide another boon like regen, or add a condition to enemies. This would also keep the pet out of your way for a while if you want it to just sit somewhere (up until you get X distance away that is).
EDIT: ill probably get HoT regardless of how the Druid spec is
probably at least a Heart of Maguuma track (or one for each zone)
I can see them making some kind of Mordremoth track with a weapon/armor set to go with it as the big end reward.
There could also be some kind of guild hall track that rewards guild hall stuff (like furniture). we may need some more info on GHs first though (since there might not be furniture).
it is very likely that we will have the same skills with the same weapons. I’m not sure if there has been anything official stating this though.

theres something they could do with pets. They could also give it another attack of some kind.
well, if you need to get stuff from DT/SW, this week is the week to do it. People are doing SW from 0% → VW and i saw a T5 DT last night (have seen that maybe 1 other time).

Surely you dont use every skill and every traitline (I’m not implying this all at once-that’s impossible). There are likely some skills and even some traitlines that you just don’t use. If for example, you never use traps on your ranger, then dont invest points into traps until you get the HP that you need. If skills arent integrated into the same lines as traits, then you will be able to pick what skills you need (with some limit- it seems that skills/traits will require whatever is before it in line to get it) and the traitlines that you want to use. 400/465 (roughly 86%) will be the baseline for all level 80s. My best guess (we’re all guessing at this point) is that you can unlock 3 full traitlines and most/all of your skills with that.
I wonder, is everyone going to need to throw away their ascended gear and start over with exotic combinations due to the stat changes coming?
no. i will not be starting over in exotics. i may change 1 or 2 pieces of gear (read trinkets) but that is it
Least we still have a chance. Only 4 portals have been found. The last player saying he found one turned out to be a fraud. Alas the 5th portal is still out there:)
ha nice reference. I hope they include chocolate with this test
made a scorpiones last night with the geodes i found. i plan on making at least 3 more ambrite weapons from the geodes i get from the rest of the week
I dont think that PETA would approve of the vast extermination of all living creatures that is likely going on in the Maguuma Wastes as of about 2 hours ago (well maybe everything except the legendary sand giant). I wonder if Anet is keeping a tab of how many creatures are exterminated in these zones for however long this event lasts. That would be an interesting number to see.
im not even going to mess with SW. All the monsters in DT drop loot, so there will be no issue for me. The only way you’ll actually get an answer is if someone gets something from an event monster and comes here to post that.
i would assume 2 weeks and then consider anything after that a bonus.
In FF2 i think you can actually equip 2 shields. I dont think you can attack/do any physical damage with it, but you can likely cast spells (ive never actually used it in battle more than a few times).
i will probably just change out a few rings. Im sure i have some that can help me get what i need. If i dont, then i will just use what i have already.
effect is a noun. You want to use affect, which is a verb
that would probably help with killing things with these weapons. I have actually mentioned the main hand focus thing in some specialization weapon topics that came up a few months ago. Land spears are always cool, hopefully that is coming at some point in the future.
the other day, i lagged and everyone kept running in the direction they were running in. it was like the zerg scattered and all ran into rocks. when i stopped lagging, they were at durios.
Falling off a cliff and taking the damage (and stopping running) about 2-5 seconds after.
Precursor collections are coming and they will likely do what you have described. I can see each one of these sending you to various random locations all over the continent. I can see all kinds of random things like “Grawl Hand- kill a veteran grawl berserker in Timberline Falls” and “Bandit Coin- open the chest in the bandit cave in Queensdale.” It might be more specific than that so i dont see it as being difficult.
Haze will be the most popular NPC in all of maguuma wastes. that guy draws in so many enemies.
guess everyone forgot about DT. Haze will probably be a very popular guy since so many mobs show up near him.
I doubt this thing will have anything on the elusive Mini Gwynefyrdd
such a low drop rate… i bet several people will have it within an hour of the update/initial addition of the item
(edited by Gobble D Goop.4081)
they might combine Eagle Eye with RtW. It would be powerful, but it also makes some sense to do that since they both affect the same weapons.
as long as they dont take away my piercing arrows, I’ll be ok (they can graft it into the ranger if they want). Its always a great laugh when you can line up 2+ enemies and RF them. I’m sure I’ll have to change my build, but that should be fine since it will likely be much better (3 grandmaster traits)

The thing that i find funny is that the people that were saying “theres only 1 specialization per class, how is that a choice? etc…” have to stop griping (at least with that arguement), because there will be 6 specializations per class in HoT (5 core, 1 elite).
I really got the impression that skills were tied to the specializations, but i might need to wait a few weeks and see if this is actually the case (it seems to be that way for elite specializations for sure, not sure about the others though).

It looks like my ranger won’t be able to use Spotter and Piercing Arrows at the same time seeing as how they’re both Master Traits. Hopefully this isn’t the case…
They could make piercing arrows a natural mechanic like they did ground targeting for wells…
that would be awesome
they said stats would be lumped into the lvl 80 total and gear (mostly gear). This change will affect my build, but if they get it to work, i’d be happy with it.
It will be difficult to decide if i want to stay longbow ranger, or change to longbow druid (i hope thats possible, i might do it just to be different)
EDIT: in an interview, they did mention that heal as one would become a shout (not that it answers your thought for RaO)
it sounds like everyone should use their scrolls, because they will not exist after the update (thats what i get from the artilcle at any rate).
Old skill points in excess of those earned by leveling and skill challenges will be converted into crafting materials for the Mystic Forge. Items and activities that were previously repeatable sources of skill points will now also provide that same crafting material.
What Material?
i hope said material (likely something new) goes into the material collection tab.
looks like i’ll have to do some rebuilding when this expansion comes out.
I already can see 2 bank tabs filled with this new material.
sounds like the way to get them is from old skill points and from current methods to get them. Guess ill spend skill points so i wont have an unmanageable number of these materials

looks like i’ll have to do some rebuilding when this expansion comes out, but thats fine too.
1. Jewelcrafting to 500 and the implement of Xunlai Electrum and Crystalline Ore/Ingots.
2. Addition of Karka Slayer and Mordrem Slayer to the slayer achievement catagory
3. Addition of various materials to the crafting material bank tab.
4. Wardrobe tab for tonics that functions similarly to the finishers tab
5. Addition of Bandit Crests and Geodes to the Wallet
6. A bank tab to keep sigils/runes in that can be deposited in when visiting the bank.
7. Some kind of vanquishing/hard mode system
8. Some kind of monster battle arena
9. An in game trading card game (with collections)
if this is introduced, i think the sigils should be dropped by monters in the world with a semi rare droprate. You should also be able to apply them to a regular pick as well. When the pick is destroyed, the sigil is as well (thus infinite picks are better, but anyone can use the sigil if they wanted to). The frost mining picks (or w/e the snowflake droppers are called) currently set the stage for this idea.
The sigils i see them adding could do the following:
After this initial introduction, they could do the same for axes and sickles as well (with restrictions applied to the sigils so you cant harvest mithril from trees or find bell peppers in iron veins etc).
After this rollout they could get even more zealous and add cloth generating sigils or even fine/rare material sigils!
Regardless, i like the proposed solution

Had another idea for a luck sink. Ascending the exotic Mystic Forge weapons (mystic weapons, Immobulus, Lidless Eye, etc.)
1 Exotic Mystic Forge Weapon
250 Exotic EoL
250 Bloodstone Dust/Empyreal Fragments/Dragonite Ore/Crystalline Ore (if it is ever added)
1 Ascended Ring (gotta have a sink for these things too)
I would notice. I use piercing arrows on my ranger and you would definately notice if that quit working (although it might take me a few days because i would doubt my ability to line up enemies). I would likely just swap to spotter and would likely not swap back until well after they fixed it.
If you have a legendary skin, you could create a new char and have them run around with the skin. Every time they level up, get a new weapon and change the skin to legendary. You could be that guy that has a level 5 with a twilight. How unique would that be?
Other than that (which is not that useful) i can’t think of anything else to do with them.
Solution:
Now before anyone says that is crazy, just think. How much gold/time would it take to get 3 stacks of exotic EoL? That much gold could easily be traded for 200 gems (the gold anyway)
There could also be some kind of luck weapon build from a stack of EoL and some other stuff (maybe it will be shiny or something)
EDIT: added Obsidian Shards as a karma sink
(edited by Gobble D Goop.4081)
ha, over 30k of both finishers. Youre next in game goal should be to use those up! You’d think they would just give you an infinite finisher when you hit a certain point (not that it really matters at 30k )
did you get any other shiny stuff from the ToT bags? (besides the luck, finishers and your goal ofc)
you could always make bloodstone bricks, dragonite ingots, and empyreal stars. Each one uses 2 obbi shards. That will cut down on what you have and these might have another use in the future.

interesting article. Thank you for the link.
wow, i wish i werent at work right now so i could actually check this thing out
even builds without any of the counters to RF can beat a RF ranger. all they have to do is double dodge towards the ranger That’s it. You then have 8 seconds to close the now smaller gap and force a weapon switch. If the ranger switches, you will now have a minimally traited melee weapon to deal with. If they dont switch, run circles around them. RF goes into cooldown when the target moves behind/beside the ranger, and the auto attack will be weaker as well.
thanks for the heads up. listed 2 stacks for 5s.
I just listed 100 stacks at 4.99s.
ouch lol but i dont think 25k will be enough to stop his sale
I highly doubt it will go up to 5s.
Or 4.99s.
thats fine, itll sell eventually. ive had some watchwork sprockets at 5s for almost a year
this line from the blogpost implies that stronghold will be the only map in the unranked que:
Conquest matches can still be played in Ranked.
As for the voting thing, it will be the same as the regular voting with a single choice (you can choose it or not choose anything, which can be done in normal queing)
thanks for the heads up. listed 2 stacks for 5s.
it will use an even number of supply until 1 is left, so it is 3 hits for both 13 (10+2+1) and 15 (10+4+1) so ideally you will always want to have an even number of supply to only take 2 hits
