i like most of these ideas. Honestly just adding sentry turrets to the maps would probably work wonders.

As far as there not being devs for WvW thats a load of nonsense. The most recent example of the devs doing something is the sneak attack thing they have recently done. im suspecting that they will do something interesting when the next feature pack drops.

To be honest, sneak attack does not sound like a very hard thing to create in the game.

True, but someone had to do it. If there were no devs to work on it, where would it come from?

im betting feature patch 3-4 weeks after this update. It will also include the next WvW tournament. They might even throw in something like the dragon bash and queens pavilion again. Then after about 6 weeks they will start the next story arc (unless they actually do intend to have an expansion)

actually it isn’t quite the same thing. The precursors listed on the market were drops from somewhere in the game. Precursors drop at an incredibly rare rate. If precursors were added to the gem store, that rate would increase significantly (especially since the OP suggested keeping the precursors as a drop in all loot tables).

Your analogy isnt quite as accurate as you would hope. in the real world, there is only a limited (and likely low) amount of the aforementioned rare swords (otherwise they would not be rare). In the game world, the items are generated from nothing. Because of this, the precursors themselves would no longer be rare. to be fair though, allowing precursors to be crafted would also cause them to lose their rarity as well.

I dont see them doing this though since they have never released an exotic item on the gem store.

Check your assumptions.

I’m not seeing an issue with the assumptions/facts.

Facts:
*Precursors on the TP were drops somewhere in the game (whether from the forge, a chest, or a random mob)
*Precursors have an incredibly rare droprate

OP suggested keeping the droprate the same throughout the world, so adding pres to the gem store MUST increase the droprate (unless noone buys one from the gemstore).

Assumption- some one will buy a precursor if it is offered in the gemstore- that one is valid (OP would probably buy one if no one else)

Your analogy is somewhat a straw man arguement. The issue isnt that you can exchange gems and gold. The issue is that precursors and the ways to get them. You didnt mention where these swords came from, but there must be a limited amount of them, as with all RL things. When they run out, there are no more. In the game world, there is no limit to precursors other than the RNG limit imposed. Unless they limited the amount that could be purchased from the gem store (TERRIBLE IDEA), there would be NO limit to the supply.

Say there’s some rare item that can only be bought in a Chinese shop with yuan. People on this thread against this suggestion are just arguing that that rare item shouldn’t be purchasable with American dollars.

Defenders say, “Lol what difference does it make? I can already convert my American dollars into yuan and buy the item, who cares if they start to accept American dollars? Why is bypassing the conversion process meaningful?”

I can see it now every single player in the game running around with all the legendaries. I dont think arenanet is that stupid to add precursors to the cash shop.

wont happen (the everyone with every legend thing). if precursors lost their value (which they would unless it were like 2000 gems for precursor, even then some would still lose value). Then T6 mats/ectos would increase in value by at least double if not more (depending on the number of T6 mat farmers that dont want a legendary). Although i guess this would create a new thing: T6 mat trains.

There are already various armor skins and whatnot that are tied to a single type of content. HM rewards would just be another skin(s) that would be sought by people that like challenges. If you dont like challenges (HM), then you wouldnt have the skin.

The following are rewards that only have one way of getting them:
-Weapons of the Sunless (Defeat Tequatl)
-Hero Armor (PvP reward track)
-Glorious Hero Armor (Top 250? on the ladder for PvP)
-Hero and Mistforged Hero Weapons (WvW tournament)
-Fractal Weapon Skins (Fractals)
-Mawdrey (huge chain of PvE requirements involving various JPs, Dry Top, LS2 Ep 3 and 4, Fractals, and several types of crafting)
-infusing ascended rings/backpacks (Fractals)
-Various boss specific exotics (world bosses)
-Permanent Achievement Points (all of them are assigned to 1 specific action and can’t be gained any other way, for example, you cant get PvP achievements by running dungeons)
-Static/Dynamic/Synergetic Spinal Blades (LS1 Battle for Lions Arch)

these are just the ones that i can think of, im sure there are more.

im not sure why, but your initial post makes me think of that escort event in Straits of Devastation that scales up so that 3 champion abominations spawn when there is a zerg there. Before the megaserver update, the world boss zerg would sometimes go there for laughs. The first time i went there were so many defeated players it was crazy. Regardless, fighting tons of enemeis/champs is not as fun as can be expected (i missed the lost shores unfortunately)

i would like this addition.

I could see them implementing it slowly over the coarse of several months instead of all at once though. (ex. next update they add HM versions of Queensdale and Metrica, then the update after they add Caledon and Brisban)

EDIT: Also they do have the technology to run multiple instances of zones. They do it with dungeons/PS/LS episodes and the have done it with GW1 (maybe even had several times more than what would likely be needed for HM in GW2)

Guide for WvW map completion

Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things

Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1

Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (currently 5:05 PM PST)
When the matchup resets, your server has a claim over all the keeps and towers in their Borderland and the keep and 4 towers for your corner in Eternal Battlegrounds.

When reset occurs go to your BL and run like crazy (bring swiftness!) to the 2 souternmost keeps (Bay and Hills) get all the POIs and vistas there. Then move north from them visiting towers, camps, and the garrison. You should have the 3 keeps and all the towers and camps north of Bay/Hills (dont worry if it takes more than 1 week). If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands”)(unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it). You will need 4 friends. You can activate the commander NPC (seigerazor/siegecrusher) if he is there. He will help you take the tower closest to your spawn. You can also take the 2 camps nearest to your spawn and get the south skill point/vistas.

Stonemist Castle will probably be your biggest issue if your world never takes it. The best way i can see to do it is to follow an enemy zerg into it (be careful they will see you as an easy target). Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully fun around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you). You have to follow your enemy through the inner gate as well in order to get the skill point (this should be done after most of them leave).

Tips:
*Be patient, this is a PvP map and it might take some time to do if your server has 0 presence
*Always avoid enemies when you can. Anyone that sees you will tell their 50 “freinds” in map chat and generally try to engage you
*Stealth, speed boosts, and even invulnerability skills are very helpful
*non-peak times can also be helpful if you are against servers where people actually get some sleep

Now, if we could get more Daily Triple Trouble and mix in Daily Arah Dungeon, that would really cause some raging. Especially for those that lfg ad for people to pay them gold for easy exploratory mode path completions. I’d be all for it of course.

The only thing I dislike about the new PvE new dailies is how the old daily gatherer got divided up and is a lot easier…. that is unless you’re character is new and doesn’t have any of the map locations.

Daily world bosses are a welcome. I found hilarity in how massive the group for Frozen Maw was 2 days ago. I hope daily dungeon runs are included to help grow more activity for the least popular ones.

that was quite a zerg wasnt it. im suspecting that they do have dungeons in there. almost expected it for today, but exotic crafter was there (maybe after reset later there will be a dungeon one for you to enjoy)

ok, i have to clarify a few things that keep popping up. The first one is that they did not decrease the amount of dailies. There were 12 before. There are 12 now. If you must suggest that they decreased the dailies for you then say “the decreased the amount of dailies I do (PVE only player) from 8 to 4.” which is a true statement. (sorry sintax type stuff bothers me a little)

Second: the old reward system IS incorperated in the login rewards (mostly)

*The amount of laurels that you get are not decreased in any way. In fact, they are increased (significantly if you so choose). Time for math

Day 2: 1 laurel
Day 9: 2 laurels
Day 16: 3 laurels
Day 23: 4 laurels
Day 7: 10 laurels
Day 21: 15 laurels

Total: 35 laurels guarenteed
thats 1 for each day and 7 above that for each 28 day login cycle.

Some of you will say that you got 10/monthly, which is true. There are 2 things that address this. The first is that 28 days is not a month. 12 X 28 is 336 which is 29 days short of a full year. So there are actually 13 cycles for login rewards in a year (if you play every day). That would be 7 X 13 which is 91 laurels. The old monthly rate was 10/month, so 120 per year. That leaves 29 that you are short, BUT on day 28 you recieve a chest that allows you to choose between a bag/box of laurels and some other stuff. This bag has been confirmed on the wiki to have 20 laurels in it. In 2 cycles of choosing laurels you will actually have 11 more than you could get under the old system. After that you would have 11 more cycles to pick something else (or even more laurels!)

*Luck has also increased. At 50/day for 28 days you get 1400. add 500/month and you have 1900 that needs to be met. You are given the following in the new system:

Day 3: 200 luck
Day 10: 400 luck
Day 17: 600 luck
Day 24: 800 luck

Total: 2000 luck/ cycle guarenteed
More luck with the new method

*Experience: you can get more than the minimum reward amount

The old way was 5% of level per achievement and 5% for the full daily so 30%/day, so 8.4 levels per 28 days (minimum). The monthly gave 3% per tier of achievement and some more for completing it (couldnt find how much). So at minimum, you get 48 + completion %. I’ll use 1 full level for the monthly number. So thats 9.4 levels minimum per 28 day cycle. The new rewards for XP are:

Day 6: 1 tome of knowledge
Day 13: 2 tomes
Day 20: 3 tomes
Day 27: 4 tomes

Total: 10 tomes guarenteed. Also you can pick more on day 28- 6 tomes per the wiki
It is likely youll get more than before unless you went well beyond what was required

*Coins (money): debateable

In the old daily you got 5 silver (sometimes a tiny bit more) per day, so that would be 1.4 gold per 28 days. monthlies gave 50 silver, so thats 1.9 gold per 28 days total.

Each new daily chest gives you some coins (1 or 2 silver), but you also have the following:

Day 5: Bag of crafing materials
Day 12: Bag of more crafting materials
Day 14: Bag of exotic equipment
Day 28: +2% gold drop permanently

most exotics sell for about 2 gold on the TP, but should the TP be brought up for these?

Mystic Coins: You recieve less mystic coins under the new system

old system gave 1 per day and 20 per month (48 per 28 day cycle roughly)

the new system gives:
Day 1: 2 MCs
Day 8: 4 MCs
Day 15: 6 MCs
Day 22: 8 MCs

Total: 20 Mystic Coins

That is significantly less.

TL;DR Luck and experience gain is more under the new system. Laurels can be more under the new system if you choose bag of plentiful laurels on day 28 twice. Coins can be debated, but are likely also more on the new system. Mystic Coins are the ONLY thing you can easily say you recieve less of. Stop saying you wont get enough laurels in the new system, that is completely wrong.

PvP is divided into 2 categories easy (50 rank points, capture a point) and specific wins (win with necro/guardian). WvW also has solo (spend 25 badges, capture 1 sentry point), zerg (capture tower), and whatever this should classify as (defend 1 point)

I completed today’s in roughly 10 minutes with the following:
*Queensdale-chopped down 3 trees near claypool (got lucky and one stayed up for the full 10): 3 minutes
*Black Citidel- Vista above the glass ceiling (near norther section): about a minute
*Borderlands- bought 5 flame rams: about 2 minutes (got 10 badges for doing this)

at any rate the graph for carcharias proves that inflation is not occuring in a huge sense (the price is somewhat higher than a year ago, but that could be due to a spike in august (the price is currently falling))

ya I’m not sure people’ll spend money on legendary they never or almost never use.

my take on all this situation is you dont’ need to wear legendary to enjoy the game. Or even ascended gear for most case.

and let’s be honest, it cost “a lot” of gold to have everything. If you set your priorities on what you need more, just get that first.

But those prices lend credence to prices being a supply/demand rather than classic inflation.

well, he’s suggesting people to spend 1200 gold, a gift of mastery, 1 million karma, 300+ skill points on something people hardly use.

I’m pretty sure very few people will actually do it. Just saying, for most people, that solution is not very practical.

what are they spending gold on (aside from the icy runestones)? TP isnt the only place to get mats. As for karma, skill points, and gift of mastery, who doesnt have those in abundance? The only difficult thing to get in there is the gift of the explorer (which can be farmed). skill points are so easy to get (you get 200 for exploring the world and likely more from level ups by doing so…) that its not even funny. most people have karma coming out of their ears (i know i do). Ectos arent that difficult to get (especially with world bosses that show up at a set time).

Also, have you ever EVER seen anyone with a Kamohoali’i Kotaki (legendary spear)? up until last night i know i havent, and ive been playing for 2 years. Who wouldnt want something that is completely unique (not to mention 6 classes can use it)?

How many times have you seen Kudzu, Twilight, Eternity etc? i cant even begin to count!

as far as im concerned, those mats arent wasted on a legend that you hardly use.

Better Crafting?

I like this idea. I would like to add this to it however:

Have another window where the crafter can add items as well. This would allow a person that needs something to get it faster (since 2 people will be working on it together)

for example, say you are working on crafting a Vision Crystal. This requires an Augur Stone and 5 bloodstone bricks, empyreal stars, and dragonite ingots. Say the person commisioning adds the augur stone, 5 bloodstone bricks, and 5 empyreal stars. The crafter could add 5 dragonite ingots to finish it out and craft it. (the commission could account for this although the rate would have to be fair to both parties). neither should be able to take the others mats

This could really help with guilds. perhaps the commissioner only does wvw and the crafter does world bosses (as seen in the example above)?

*join the other 50 people saving the childrens!!! (only active during Escape from Lions Arch event)
*vote for Courtyard when map selection comes up in PvP (bonus reward for doing it more than once!!!)
*Capture no points in a conquest match and gripe when you lose

and everyone’s favorite:
*spam map chat with at least 10 non-GW2 messages (bonus reward for raunchy comments)

always thought i needed to make a guide for this so here goes:

Guide for WvW map completion

Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things

Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1

Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (currently 5:05 PM PST)
When the matchup resets, your server has a claim over all the keeps and towers in their Borderland and the keep and 4 towers for your corner in Eternal Battlegrounds.

When reset occurs go to your BL and run like crazy (bring swiftness!) to the 2 souternmost keeps (Bay and Hills) get all the POIs and vistas there. Then move north from them visiting towers, camps, and the garrison. You should have the 3 keeps and all the towers and camps north of Bay/Hills (dont worry if it takes more than 1 week). If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands”)(unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it). You will need 4 friends. You can activate the commander NPC (seigerazor/siegecrusher) if he is there. He will help you take the tower closest to your spawn. You can also take the 2 camps nearest to your spawn and get the south skill point/vistas.

Stonemist Castle will probably be your biggest issue if your world never takes it. The best way i can see to do it is to follow an enemy zerg into it (be careful they will see you as an easy target). Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully fun around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you). You have to follow your enemy through the inner gate as well in order to get the skill point (this should be done after most of them leave).

Tips:
*Be patient, this is a PvP map and it might take some time to do if your server has 0 presence
*Always avoid enemies when you can. Anyone that sees you will tell their 50 “freinds” in map chat and generally try to engage you
*Stealth, speed boosts, and even invulnerability skills are very helpful
*non-peak times can also be helpful if you are against servers where people actually get some sleep

Yes, combined at 15,000.

In that case… im excited about this change. Plus i can sell my extra mystic coins in a few days for a lot of gold just because people are worrying about nothing.

But dailies aren’t broken.
There are plenty of things that are broken (such as gathering nodes that can’t be accessed, events that stall and never complete, ridiculously high WvW AP requirements to name but a few) that have existed since the game launch.
Surely they should look at fixing these and other long term bugs rather than spend their resources on something which actually works?
I could be wrong, but based upon various LS comments I believe that many people would like to see some for of instanced Scarlet LS stuff as currently due to the way LS works you jump straight from finishing one story with destiny’s edge to starting a new LS with a group who you have never met in the LS system who claim to know you and call you “boss”. This seems to be a huge continuity issue for anyone who missed the events that led to the 2nd destruction of LA in GW2.

On a side note I think I saw stuff such as levelling tomes and skill points as rewards in the new system – please give options for other stuff. Personally I have 8 characters of which 7 are at level 80, and the other level 42. Bonus Skill Points are so plentiful in this game that even the level 42 has every skill bought and a surplus of at least 50.
And judging by other players I am just a casual player.

i will agree with the dailies arent broken thing, but surely they have someone working on some of the other things you mentioned (IIRC there are at least 300 people working on that kind of thing). maybe im just being too optimistic though.

What happens to the AP cap? This new system seems to liberally award AP, and a lot of people will hit the cap soon.

Why? if you’re looking for cosmetic look, isn’t it better to just release something like the prev refractor? and it’s not like getting an asc trinket cost you a lot of gold (unlike asc weapon)

I’d rather have a new legendary weapon, which prec weapon can be crafted.

ascended weapons are cheap to craft, especially if you farm most of the mats (which incidently doesnt take that long since most of them can be gathered).

I think there should be legendary trinkets and armor before they release any new legendary weapons.

I am making an The Predator just for the cool effects. I think legendary jewelry is a completely acceptable idea. And to give people that extra incentive, just give it an effect that can be activated on demand out of combat with a cd, much like how /rank currently functions. People just want to be able to show off, this gives them the chance to show off, and it may even add a little more possibilities to people’s role play.

To break this down even more, you could make it a special /emote that activates the effect of the legendary jewelry. This effect could be somewhat incomplete and grow as players collect more of a full set of legendary jewelry. Allowing players to show off how much they grind even more.

This is a great idea! It just makes me want legendary jewelry for my characters even more

I guess the question that needs to be answered is why do people build legendary weapons when ascended is just as good?

I then need to take that answer and apply it somehow to my idea, so i guess ill continue with this. For those of you with legendaries, why did you make a legendary when ascended can serve the same purpose?

I’d rather see Legendary jewellery added as the items crafted by level 500 jewelers. There’s no point in crafting Ascended jewellery, as it’s already really easy to get hold of.

If level 500 jewellery crafting was all stat-switchable Legendary grade items, then you could base the various laurel recipes around a selection of effects and colours rather than stats.

It’s a lot of effort jus to change stats though, especially as one jewellery items stats wont affect very much. I suspect it would be quicker just to buy the ascended version from the laurel vendor than accumulate the mats.

People would need a real incentive to go for this. A colour change is one idea, but I’m not sure it’s anywhere near enough to warrant the work involved.

its not that far from the difference between ascended and legendary weapons though. I think you are underestimating the amount of people that would go for such a thing.

i guess ill give you an actual answer as opposed to the “why not” above with the assumption (since it isnt stated) that the proposal is in question

1. people are requesting that jewelcrafting be raised to 500
2. there needs to be a sink for ascended mats (bloodstone, empyreal, dragonite)
3. This legendary proposal has a non RNG precursor (people hate RNG)
4. It gives “most” people a long term goal to work toward (that would exclude the people that would rush to get it in like a week)
