You can go through doors that match your color in wvw. The blue doors that you can go through at the moment might not let you through after reset happens since your server might not be blue again.

i checked the wiki and Euro servers reset at 1800 UTC on saturday i think (my guide has the NA reset time so you can disregard that). This page about wvw on the wiki might help you somewhat:

100% map completion advice/help

Gobble D Goop.4081

i think most of it is covered, but here it is:

Guide for WvW map completion

Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things

Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1

Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (currently 5:05 PM PST)
When the matchup resets, your server has a claim over all the keeps and towers in their Borderland and the keep and 4 towers for your corner in Eternal Battlegrounds.

When reset occurs go to your BL and run like crazy (bring swiftness!) to the 2 souternmost keeps (Bay and Hills) get all the POIs and vistas there. Then move north from them visiting towers, camps, and the garrison. You should have the 3 keeps and all the towers and camps north of Bay/Hills (dont worry if it takes more than 1 week). If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands”)(unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it). You will need 4 friends. You can activate the commander NPC (seigerazor/siegecrusher) if he is there. He will help you take the tower closest to your spawn. You can also take the 2 camps nearest to your spawn and get the south skill point/vistas.

Stonemist Castle will probably be your biggest issue if your world never takes it. The best way i can see to do it is to follow an enemy zerg into it (be careful they will see you as an easy target). Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully fun around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you). You have to follow your enemy through the inner gate as well in order to get the skill point (this should be done after most of them leave).

Tips:
*Be patient, this is a PvP map and it might take some time to do if your server has 0 presence
*Always avoid enemies when you can. Anyone that sees you will tell their 50 “freinds” in map chat and generally try to engage you
*Stealth, speed boosts, and even invulnerability skills are very helpful
*non-peak times can also be helpful if you are against servers where people actually get some sleep

Good Luck with your exploration

They’ll probably implement the crystalline ingots for this. they could also use bloodstone/empyreal/dragonite since those are account bound anyway (although getting 250 bricks/stars/ingots would be terrible if they did that)

I think its supposed to be more like the luminescent armor collection and the maudrey crafting. luminescent has some RNG (all account bound stuff), but it isnt terrible for the most part. Maudrey is crafting to the max, but there was little (if any) RNG. So hopefully they stick with these instead of the “get all these named exotics” collections.

Interview: 1 specialization per profession

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gobble D Goop.4081

Gobble D Goop.4081

Specializations, as i see it, are similar to a profession change and not just a tacked on list of abilities (traits, skills, and weapon choices) for your character. With this in mind, you would actually have 2 choices when HoT is released (using Ranger as the example):
Ranger and Druid with Ranger being the default

So now the question is, what exactly is different between the ranger and the druid?
The only thing we know right now is that the druid has access to Staff as a weapon choice, has a new trait line, and has some new skills. Who’s to say that the druid doesnt lose access to other weapons that the ranger can use?

For example i will list a potential idea of how the ranger vs druid ideas might work based on what is unique to the specialization (this is only an example, please do not argue about the specifics of the example):

*Ranger:
-Unique weapon choice(s): Greatsword, Axe
-Unique Traits: Beastmastery Trait Line (and by extention, pets), F1-F4 bar with pet actions, Greatsword or Axe Traits
-Unique Skills: any relating to pets, Greatswords, and Axes

*Druid
-Unique weapon: Staff
-Unique Traits: Druid trait line (no name given yet), F1-F4 bar with druid actions (most likely healing/plant based), Staff Trait(s)
-Unique Skills: any new druid skills, Staff skills (for all we know, they might give the druid different weapon skills for other weapons as well)

The ranger has unique access to a pet traits/abilities, Greatsword, and axe while the druid has unique access to Staff and druid abilities/traits.
(example finished)
——————————————————————————-

In the example above, the Ranger and Druid would be played different from each other, yet still share many things in common. That is how i see this being implemented: 2 choices instead of 1.

Not surprising at all. I’m sorry to say this, but anyone who thought there would be more than one specialization per profession was simply feeding their own hype. That disapointment you feel is your own doing. arenanet never hinted that there being more than one.

^This. All I will add to this is that since we honestly don’t know how specializations will work with each class, why start bemoaning them until you find out the details. It is like people are actively looking for something to be unhappy about. Sheesh!

yeah, people should go back to complaining about all the other stuff. like how OP Ranger, Theif, Elementalist, Engineer, Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer, and Necromancer are. I mean seriously, every single one of them can kill you in a matter of seconds if you dont notice them! and dont even get the monsters started about how OP they are!!!

That aside, i think they are setting up for more in the future. For all we know, they might add some with a feature pack soon after the expansion is out. Not to mention that there will technically be 2 choices (the new speciallization and the profession that already existed)

im not sure why so many people have a problem with ToKs. If you know you are never going to use it to level, then just double click (consume) it. Then it will no longer be in your inventory taking up space. There is no max on the number of skill points you can have so it really doesnt matter. In fact, you and your pvp friends can have a contest to see who can get to 10k skill points first.

i dont have much trouble with ores so i have to go with iron for same reasons (although ori is close as well just due to sheer rarity)
as for wood i have difficulty with soft and seasoned logs (i should play lower level zones i guess)

if you need good iron areas, Proxemics lab WP on the West side of Brisban Wildlands is near that canyon that has like 6 iron nodes and 1 rich iron node. your BL in WvW south of the garrison tends to have a few rich iron veins as well (if your world doesnt mind you mining ore) There are also some spots that can have rich iron on the southern part of the BLs (you can check your enemies BL (also good for gold ore/veins)

[Suggestion] 9th Profession: Chronomancer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gobble D Goop.4081

Gobble D Goop.4081

i can see the chronomancer being a class that evolved from mesmers of old experimenting with time magics (chronos) and becoming proficient at it.

from a lore standpoint, you could have a group of asura mesmers that fled Primordus but never journeyed to Rata Sum with the rest of them. There they spent years (its been 200 years in game since Primordus woke) discovering/perfecting time magic. They could even have a city/village/hidden hole in the wall somewhere. One day a young asura, who had trained in the time arts, could have left the village to perfect her skills. This “chronomancer” ended up in Rata Sum, but was shunned for such odd use of magic. Before leaving, she had a daughter who she named Dessa. She then died or was run out of town or something leaving Dessa behind. The elders of Rata Sum ban all discussion of Chronomancy in hopes that Dessa doesnt persue them (they guide her into the Mesmer proffesion). They fail. Dessa leaves and creates the fractals. They decide not to mention Chronomancy and time magic ever again.

Im not sure that announcing an upcoming event, particularly on your own peoperty, constitutes hype.

What would you consider hype? An epic trailer with an in-game advertisement for an event? An announcement on the front page of the games website?

What exactly would Anet have to do to be considered hyping up their announcement for it not to be the players fault for “setting themselves up for disappointment”?

You honestly think that announcing an upcoming event or product on your own website/property is hype ?

What exactly have they hyped ? They have made not one single claim, that Ive seen, other than that there is something that comes after The Point of No Return and that it will be announced at a certain place/time for those interested.

The local convenience store near my home has a sign on the door advertising a free donut with purchase of coffee during certain hours. Hype?

If a player makes up, invents, elements that have in no way been claimed then any disappointment when the invented element fails to appear is the players own fault.

I have just received an epiphany that the upcoming release will include a free car for all players with a Ranger main. If I dont get one I will be horribly disappointed and it will be Anets fault for all of the hype.

I believe ANet is hyping up the announcement, which will in turn, hype whatever HoT ends up being. To the next question, yes the sign on the door would get some donut lovers very excited and the outcry at removing the promotion would be crazy (at least from the donut people).

I am also very excited to recieve a new car. I hope your epiphany is correct

[suggestion] Elite Map Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gobble D Goop.4081

Gobble D Goop.4081

Elite Map Completion

This idea is for a new type of content that is similar to vanquishing from GW1, but not quite the same. After obtaining 100% Map Completion on a character, that character would then be able to start Elite Map Completion (abbreviated EMC). A character with a full party would have to talk to the EMC NPC to start create an instance for the EMC (all characters in the party must have 100% map completion). This instance would be the same as the main map with the exception of the following:
*The entire map would scale for a party of 5 (events, monsters etc)
*Dynamic Events could only be started by speaking with a specific NPC (denoted on the map with some kind of symbol)
*There would be fewer WPs (and they can only be used when all 5 party members were out of combat)
*Monsters would respawn significantly slower (15-20 minutes after death)
*5 wandering legendary monsters would replace a random monster on the map (they would not respawn)(each would replace 1 monster not 5 replacing a single monster)

Tasks to complete:

*Complete all Dynamic Events- these events would already be selected by the designers (since not all events would work/scale for 5 party members) This would probably average at around 15 events per map.
*Defeat XX of certain monster type (there would be at least 5 of these and they would be randomized based on what monsters show up in the map). XX would not exceed the number that you would resonably face on the map or through the dynamic events (EX: you would never have Defeat 3 Giants as a task).
*Defeat the 5 Legendary enemies. The task will not mention where/what the legendary monsters are.

Map Penalty(working name):

This is a debuff for failing to do something. It will stack based on different actions:
*1 stack for dieing
*1 stack for failing an event (party wide)
*1 stack for every hour spent on the map

It can be removed by the following:
*2 stacks for killing a wandering legendary monster

The only thing this debuff does is keep track of how many times the player fails to do something. When it reaches 20 stacks for all 5 party members, the party fails the EMC and is kicked from the instance.

Rewards:

For each successful completion, you will recieve coins and karma based on you Map Penalty (the higher the MP, the lower the reward). You will also recieve 1 EMC coin (2 if you have 0 MP).
For the first completion of a map, you will recieve an Elite Map Completion Chest (picture a map completion chest that is red). This chest will contain a rare or exotic, some crafting materials that correspond to the map’s level (similar to the Map completion chest), and either a black lion key (low chance) or a transmutation charge.
When all maps have been completed, the reward is a Gift of Exploration, 5 EMC tokens, and a title.
There could also be achievements for each map.
The tokens will be traded with a special merchant that could offer things like more Gifts of Exploration (requires several tokens), dyes, material bags, tomes of knowledge, and weapon/armor skins.

Things this idea might need to work
There would probably need to be some kind of task UI for the tasks that need to be completed. There would also need to be a random task creator (similar to several already implemented ones).

I think thats everything. Thoughts?

Expansion on the way! Any predictions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gobble D Goop.4081

Things i suspect to be in HoT if it is an expansion:

*Several new zones in Maguuma/M Wastes
*Map completion achievement for the new zones plus Southsun, Dry Top, and Silverwastes (might only award 1 gift of exploration)
*More dungeons, the last one being the Mordromoth dungeon
*Addition of Geodes, Bandit Crests, and any new currency to the wallet
*Addition of a tonic tab to the wardrobe that functions like the finisher tab
*Addition of new crafting materials including a possible new type of material/gathering method
*Jewelcrafting and Chef to 500
*Some form of housing
*A new type of crafting: furniture-building or maybe just construction to go with the above point
*New emotes
*New PvP maps/modes
*New siege/skills for WvW
*New stat combinations
*New set of legendary weapons/armor/trinkets

Crazy stuff that i want:

*Underground zones- would probably need a new map since they would be under existing zones
*Water zone- a zone mostly of water that has a ship village (ships with several planks connecting them). The zone would be populated with quaggan, krait, various fish, and water dragon minions
*Vanquishing- i might create a topic on this later, but basicly it would be an instanced zone with content scaled for a party of 5. It would work similarly to the current map completion tasks.
*Precursor Crafting
*Increase to the AP cap on Dailies
*New playable race (i saw someone suggest Mursaat as a playable race in another topic)
*Mainhand focus

Stuff that i dont want:
*Level Cap increase
*New gear tier

they would increase the level cap to 82 for that negligible 2-5% increase in stats

Sorrow's Furnace Map completion in WvW

Guide for WvW map completion

Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things

Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1

Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (NA servers)

If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands,” unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it).

Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully run around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you).

I could see 5x pure glass longbow rangers running around in a group being extremely broken.

They could each be a different color:
Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Black

At the beginning of each match, the red ranger must shout “Power Rangers, assemble!”
If they ever start losing one of them can shout “We need backup! Call in the Megazord!” and other stuff like that. Any cliche statement can also be used.

Daily play/win on any map would be very useful as a replacement/alternative. how interesting would it be to see 10 votes for the same map? The only problem i see is that it would probably pick maps like skyhammer and courtyard as well as the usual ranked/liked maps

I’m not sure what exactly youre looking for (i didnt see your first topic which probably has that information), but GOM might be what you are looking for. There is not a que very often and when there is (reset night and tournaments mainly), it normally isnt anything crazy and often only in EB. There will normally be people running around in both EB and GOM BL, but sometimes there are raids in the other BLs as well (usually guild groups but they normally take extras too). Prime time seems to be after the daily reset for about 4-6 hours. Im not sure if we have a middle of the night crew or not, but most mornings we still own our stuff, so there has to be at least some presence

There are several dedicated players in GOM, so you will generally recognize many of the people you see if you are on at the same time everyday.

We have a guild or 2 that likes to bust enemy zergs.

If you do decide to move to GOM, feel free to message me.

I have seen both of these ideas several times on here lately (not that its a bad thing) and the general consensus is that they are both great ideas and most/all people in the topics want them implemented. Although some people (from your post you might be in this group) want more than geodes and bandit crests in the wallet. In fact, i think several people want things like candy corn and even the ugly sweaters etc in there.

The recent ability to spend currencies from the bank is a result from a recent topic on the wallet addition.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

They could’ve put the mystic forge one in the PvP category and the crafting one in the WvW category. There’s a forge in the PvP lobby and there are crafting stations in WvW.

Doing that would’ve left some room in the PvE category for some actual PvE achievements. Maybe even some interesting ones.

Edit: did they actually remove the forge from the PvP lobby? Make the activity PvP then. They use PvP instancing anyway, so that’s a good fit.

they would have been worse off if they put crafting in WvW achievements. It has even less to do with WvW than it does with PvE. plus i think they (the developers) consider crafting to be a PvE activity.

If they did move them then you would just see the fractal/world boss specific dailies more often. The crafting/mystic forge is MUCH quicker than fractals and can be done anytime, unlike world bosses. crafting can be completed with using artificer to refine luck. if you salvage 3 or 4 ectos you will generally get enough to make an exotic luck essence (plus you get 3 ectos for completing it). Mystic forge can be done fairly easily as well. Buy 4 minor runes from the TP and throw them in the forge.

They removed the forge around the same time they removed glory which was either march or april.

I could see activities moving to PvP, but all the PvP rewards add to reward track progress. the activity daily wouldnt make any since with this reward IMO.

And for a completely unrelated point: Why the dishonesty in their labelling? Daily crafter? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Mystic Forger? Not a PvE achievement. Daily Activity Participation? Not a PvE achievement. Why are those 3 in that category?

where else would they put these? They arent WvW or PvP. You dont find an activity person in either. Crafting/mystic forge doesnt benefit WvW and are not present in HOTM.

as an aside, all of those are fairly easy to do (activity will take the longest though)
