The traits are not the only problem, since the system doesn’t give bonus stats (Power, Precision etcs) we are now relying on armours (Some of us, crafted Ascended) SO IT IS AN EXPENSIVE INVESTMENT. But now, these armours are unfit for battle because, characters are not getting any boost from the trait system making it weaker or less effective. There’s a way to change the stats, you say? Well, we don’t want to grind for it, we grind enough just to get the armours. This mechanic add more work for to the players and rather restrictive.
Just want to say it is very easy to change the ascended stats it only costs ~5 gold and 10 spirit shards per piece (which should be easily obtainable if the person was willing to spend hundreds of gold on a very small stats increase).
Ouch!
5 gold and 10 shards to do something which previously was free? And only if you’ve laid out the resources for ascended armor?
That’s not a good deal at all!
It previously wasn’t free because you couldn’t change the stats at all. Five gold (x6 armor pieces + weapons) is very likely an extremely negligible sum to those who have ascended armor/weapons. I would have been incredibly angry if there was no way to convert the armor, but since it is so easy to do I don’t see a problem. Newer people who were in exotics and have less gold will have a far more difficult time however.
I disagree regarding stats – the cost was nominal, and after a point, became free. It was actually a really REALLY nice feature. It’s been that way for quite some time.
I have very little Ascended, 6 characters at level 80, all of whom I have in Exotic, some with multiple sets to suit particular builds. These changes are not friendly to that, and at first exposure, considerably reduce the quality and enjoyment of my play.
Not what I’d hoped for reading the initial press. Not what I expected, either.
Well assuming we are talking about PvE you should be somewhat relieved to hear that the meta for the majority of the professions has not changed, zerk still reigns supreme regardless of how much people are talking about condition damage.
My opinion on the trait change is that it is better overall in that it is more streamlined, as well as allows for easier balance and specialization additions. However, a lot of the problems and complaints from this system stem from questionable balance changes made from Anet that seem to have little logic behind them. These changes are a combination of their sole focus on sPvP balance (completely ignoring WvW and PvE balance) and lack of knowledge of certain professions.

uhhhh the pve meta for all those professions is still zerker…
That said, OP’s post is inherently flawed because berserker is not mutually exclusive from causing burning damage. I guess the main point that burning damage has caused changes in rotation is true, however, rotation changes have been caused by a variety of things, burning damage only being one of them.

Visually the buildings themselves are very well done . However, it seems extremely flat with a lot of open spaces that I wish were filled. Although I guess this is understandable from a lore standpoint, I still wish the certain areas actually had more than just flat terrain to traverse.
However, the layout of the different tp/bank/stations is terrible, and is the main reason I’m going to stick with DR (visually stunning with good utility station locations).
The jumping puzzle was a ton of fun great job.
Feels somewhat overpriced, but I’m still okay with this price I guess. The major problem in my eyes is that for $50 you don’t even get a free character slot when the new class is one of the major features.
I love playing long range condi/support with traps… said no one ever.
I like the virtues change, but if the rest is as bad as it looks, I`ll never use this specialization. “Dragonhunter” is also a pretty meh title which doesn’t thematically fit with the guardian.
I`ll check out the stream tommorow to see if it can change my mind at all, but currently I’m dissapointed.
that video reference that you mean was very blurred, so blurred, that you could hardly differentiate between the bow being either a longbow, or a shortbow.
It was just only possible to see it being basically a bow onlyhttp://gfycat.com/ImmaterialWhichEgret
it isn’t even clearly at all seeable, if that bow is an old skin or a new skin which could work exactly like aether/azureflame for both bow types the same.
There are two parts in the WvW video which show the same charr guardian with a bow. The pictures are somewhat blurry, but it is still fairly easy to see that he is using the pearl longbow (as opposed to the shortbow which is much thinner). If it is a new weapon, it must be a weapon that is incredibly similar.
Sorry, but as I said it is almost assured it is the longbow. Although it isn’t 100% confirmed, I feel like your want of thief to have a longbow is the reason why you are unwilling to accept that there is a good amount of evidence supporting guardians will get LB.
But hey, arguing isn’t going to do any good so just wait until Thursday and don’t get your hopes up.
It is almost assured that it is a longbow. In the WvW borderlands video people found a guardian using a pearl longbow (unlike aether/azureflame, the pearl bows have different models).

Although this isn’t really the type of information I care too much about, the lore behind these new hylek and what’s going to happen sounds pretty cool.
However, I don’t really see why Itzel, who accept all the dangers of the jungle so willingly, believing that everything has a purpose even if they don’t understand it it, see the Mordrem as something exclusive to this belief.
Only reason I can see is that the Itzel’s beliefs have never truly been tested, and they are making the Mordrem an exception to the rule simply so they can survive without completely overturning their flawed ideal.
Welp, maybe next year/decade/never >.>

April Fools 2013 was the best Holiday in any MMO ever imo
April Fools 2014 was somewhat disappointing because no SAB, but it was still really funny. I ran around trying to find the craziest bobbleheads (Moose and Colossus).
April Fools 2015 just wasn’t very funny. Logged in, did daily, logged out :/
Well… since the 50% vote to kick doesn`t even work at the moment, and they had a previous patch where they said they changed the same exact thing but didn`t, you may not even have anything to worry about.
That said the planned change is the superior choice imo.
You can change FoV slider and “Adjust camera to character height” to get good pictures of your whole character.
- Guild Chat doesn’t work for 1/2 the guilds
- 50% vote threshold doesn’t work
- First Person problems: aegis, longbows, items which show over characters head
- Sound bugs (on both skills and dialogue)
- Loading Screen is pushed up like the camera (so 1/3 of screen is black)
- Report a bug is messed up
- FPS drops
- Sluggish Camera Rotation
- Changing Reward Track crashes game
- Can’t buy traits (I haven’t verified this but have heard it)
- Minimap has a gap (which causes points to go over the screen)

And most of those would probably still have happened no matter how many weeks they spent on QA, since they could very well be stuff that turned up when the build was added to live as opposed to the testing servers.
Several of those aren’t really bugs either I would say. And very few of them is actually effecting the game in any real way.
Kind of wish you would stop white knighting at some point and actually give Anet constructive criticism. So which aren’t bugs?
Recently Anet has been very good at releasing content with little to no bugs, which implies they have a fair amount of control over bugs in QA. We know that Anet needed more time to release this patch (since they had to push it back a week from their original plans) which may mean they were somewhat rushed on this release.
(edited by GoldenTruth.2853)
Anet should have released this update at a later date. Even with the extra week given for QA this is possibly the most bugged patch Anet has released (it is at least on par with some of the LS1 bugged content releases).

Just tested this out. Still only takes 2 people to vote kick in a party of 5.

The standard holy trinity? No.
However, if they could enhance the current soft trinity (Damage, Support, Control) while maintaining GW2’s current ability of not needing any specific role (just losing efficiency) I think combat could be greatly developed.
The solution being having armor where the 1-2 of the stat slots have much more useful support/control skills. For example, support could have something like <reduce utility cooldown by X%> where if you used your utilities for simple damage you would lose dps compared to a pure dps build, however, you would have improved flexibility. Another potential stat would be to remove +healing and make it so it improves the effectiveness of all boons (ie might is a +30 Power bonus instead of a standard +25). Control skills would focus on increasing defiant bar damage/control time, shorter CDs on control effects, and possibly dealing increased damaged to CC’d enemies. Hopefully, with something like this people will be able to have more defined roles, without specific roles becoming required.
…There’s no excuse for items like geodes, bandit crests, and tokens to be excluded from the wallet.
See my previous post.
Then there would be no point in even adding the wallet to begin with. If the excuse is <to clog inventory space so more inventory slots are sold> then they wouldn’t have made the wallet in the first place. I assume the real reason it hasn’t been changed is that the wallet was originally designed with the current 4×4 pattern, and changing it would require a ui redesign (and constantly adding a new currency every few patches would only make it messier). That said, even with this reason it doesn’t mean that they should just go and drop this feature without adding all these new currencies they keep introducing. The fact that Anet keeps adding great features/ideas, but rarely expands them or keeps them up to date is one of my least favorite things about this otherwise good company.
Any item that is used as a form of currency within the game should be in the wallet.
This
The whole purpose of the wallet is to hold different forms of currency. There’s no excuse for items like geodes, bandit crests, and tokens to be excluded from the wallet. This problem only gets exacerbated every major patch/expansion (xpac zone gives its own currency as well), and is something Anet should addressed.
OP has some weird definitions of “fun” lol.
It isn’t like they are going to have you utilize the entire skill bar the exact same way as you seem to be implying, instead, depending on the enemy and circumstances you will utilize that bar in different ways (saving your pull for defiance bar vs positioning, taking a reflect utility vs condi cleanse). The majority of players aren’t going to find mindlessly pressing 1 more fun than actually being immersed in the fight. However, they may find it more frustrating and less rewarding. That said, I would much rather prefer removing the current <spam 1> combat style.

Yes not sure why existing sab worlds don’t just sit there as an activity to play. Especially during the wait for expansion. I just cant fathom, as a player, any logical reason for this.
I swear, Anet won’t consider it the “right time” for SAB until we kill off all the elder dragons only to find out that there is Super Elder Dragon inside SAB.

Wouldn’t the right time be when we are between living story seasons or waiting for an expansion… you know… like right now >.>
We don’t need an updated version with World 3 if you want to focus on the xpac, just put World 1 and 2 in and leave it there.
When the people who were at the event say not to get overly hyped, I think it’s best to trust their judgement.
This
The people who went to the conference said to keep hype at a moderate level because they weren’t able to ask about a lot of the stuff Anet hasn’t already gone in depth with.
My guess is the majority of what we will get tomorrow is a better look at the new zone and a large amount of non-substantive interviews with maybe a few teasers spread throughout.
The pricing may be high, but the real problem imo is that the population levels (which are tied to the price) are just plain wrong. It is far less obvious now that we have megaservers, however, currently every US server is either “Very High” or “Full” even though there are drastic population differences even between the ones ranked “Very High”.
I’m fine with them focusing on Outfits for the gemstore as long as the time/resources they save in doing so allow them to create a wide range of real armor sets for HOT. Although, since HOT isn’t out yet I can only hope that this is true.
Although I would rather have these outfits as armor sets, at least they aren’t completely terrible since they allow for infinite transmutations and you aren’t botched if you like an armor set but the profession you want to put it on can’t use it.
Because you know, I can understand that it’s a boss and it has to be more resistant, but when I break the resistance, I want to have a choice of how to control him. And that’s what we have now.
Isn’t having some random stack of a buff that says “Hey you hit me with 4 stuns throughout this fight, but your next ones definitely going to work just cause… it will (but then it isn’t going to work again for the next 4 times)” far more immersion breaking than having it so being hit by multiple CCs all at once stuns him in place even if he is hit by a move that would launch weaker mobs?
I don’t like the new defiance. If it’s true and it doesn’t let us decide whether we want to launch/pull/fear/stun etc then it’s just a broken immersion. Let’s say some people break the bar and last hit to break the defiance is guardian hammer Banish. now imagine the effect of this Banish isn’t an awesome flying bag of meat/plant/whatever, but a predetermined effect like interrupt or stun.
Wouldn’t the immersion be broken after Banish/whatever CC effect failed to launch the boss every other time it was used when the bar/stacks were on O_o
You could just say that unlike weaker mobs, boss level mobs are actually powerful enough to hold their ground against hard hitting CCs and only be temporarily stunned when hit by multiple CCs.
BTW what I just said has nothing to do with the gameplay mechanics (ie. that you can’t as easily reposition a boss), it’s just targeted at the statement “broken immersion” which I found odd.
…I’d like some clarity in what happens to mobs when you deplete their defiance bar….
I believe we’re still balancing the broad-reaching solution but yes, a significant stun will be applied. Pretty sure we’ll be releasing more details through our channels real soon.
Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like a very welcome change to the defiant mechanic.
Sound like a pretty good change for the defiance mechanic. However, I’d like some clarity in what happens to mobs when you deplete their defiance bar. In the above article they stated that the wyverns would take increased damage and would be stunned, but how will retroactive mobs be effected? There are most likely 3 ways in which the mobs could be effected.
1. Like the Wyvern all mobs will be auto-stunned for X amount of seconds with increased damage.
2. All CC effects work for a short time.
3. Only the 1st CC after the bar goes down works.

Why is Sandwichmancer still not a profession? Anet decided to tease such an amazing profession only to reveal the much less imaginative Revenant.
Also… Cantha?
Uh guys? Heart of Thorns represents a physical product that will sit on store shelves. Vendors WILL be notified at minimum 4 months in advance so they can allocate those shelves.
If you think we’ll have this in our hands with anything less that 4 months advance notice of the exact date, you’re just plain wrong.
They announced GW2’s release date 2 months before it came out so….
That said, I don’t expect it to be coming out within the next 2 to 3 months.
Why do people have the misguided opinion that Taunt is for tanking and not simply a control/positioning effect. You don’t even need to have tanky gear; cast taunt and kite or dodge the attack and you don’t even need to worry about the damage.

I see 2 potential problems with what we know of the Mallyx Legend (which may already be solved since we don’t know too much about them).
1. While in groups the Revenant is trying his hardest to gain conditions (so he can potentially spread them), whereas, the rest of the party wants condition cleanses. This causes a conflict of interest that greatly harms the Revenant’s dps. If there isn’t already a mechanic designed to prevent this, I would suggest giving Revenants a Trait which converts friendly cleanses to X seconds of resistance instead.
2. When you switch to a different legend from the Mallyx legend you will more often than not have a large number of conditions on you that suddenly change from being both a plus and a minus (hurts you, but increases damage output/control) to being just negative. I’m sure they already have a solution to this in place, but if not there should be a trait that either gives you resistance for X seconds/removes conditions/converts conditions into boons when switching from the Mallyx legend.

I can understand that locking the utlity skills based on Legends invoked is thematically sound. I don’ think they should allow you to use utility skills from a different Legend while invoking the first. What I do think would be nice is if we have more than just 3 utility skills per Legend so we can actually have some customization. Something like:
Legend X has utility skills 1,2,3,4,5,6 to choose 3 from.
Legend Y has utlity skills 7,8,9,10,11,12 to choose 3 from.
Legend Z has utility skills 13,14,15,16,17,18 to choose 3 from.
To use any 3 equipped from Legend X you need to have Legend X invoked. To use any 3 equipped on the bar from Lengend Y you need to have Legend Y invoked and so on.
This can still retain the playstyle per Legend. Legend X (Jalis for example) can have all his utility options focused on tanky brawling. Legend Y (Malyx) can have his utility skills focused on conditions.
This is what I would love to see even at the cost of additional Legends (even a choice of 6 utilities, 1 heal, 1 elite would be good enough). Several people have suggested adding utilities that are non-legend dependent, but I feel that would also hinder the uniqueness of the profession’s mechanics. After all, using a Mallyx legend only to have 2/3 of the utility slots be a basic damage dealer or a passive buff hurts some of the uniqueness of actually being attuned to that legend. By giving an (albeit limited) choice of utility slots unique to that legend to choose from, the attuned legend remains feeling relevant while allowing for the Revenant to be far more adaptable.

Most of the profession sounds really cool, but if the utilities are completely locked behind the legend (as in Jalis Legend only has 3 utilities and you have no choice but to use these 3 specific utilities in this Legend) gameplay is going to get boring really fast, and adaptability is going to greatly suffer. Both of these points are amplified by only being able to wield 1 weapon.

Wow had multiple variations of the same map with lich king depending on how far you were in it. Why can’t gw2?
It splits the playerbase up too much unless you are in the final stage of the zone. In WoW this doesn’t matter because in general you don’t want to meet other people (they steal your kills and if they are on the opposing side try to kill you). However, GW2 places a strong emphasis on cooperating with other players. Even if you don’t say a word to each other having other players nearby is almost never detrimental.
In addition unlike WoW, GW2 is focused on quests/events. There is little reason to go back and do a previous quest in WoW, but never being able to kill Vinewrath or even go back to the basic mechanics involved in the SW map would be awful. Solution to this would be to allow you to go to either the old or new map, but that would still split the playerbase and would require a large amount of resources to remake the layout of an entire map (which could be much better spent elsewhere).
I would rather minor immersion breaking with maps stuck in time then having them be removed/having a high amount of resources used up simply to restructure the map. Some of the minor stuff like the Forts would be fine to change imo, but whole maps like SW….no thanks.

Its not and it would be stupid to think that the Witcher 3 is an expansion.
Anyway , Witcher 3 will be getting free DLC and they said they would wouldn’t ever charge for anything small, but Anet over here wants to charge for features that should have been in the game already and a new region that basically equals all of the new zones we have been given over the course of 2 years.
Maybe anet should have just stuck with living story and rolled out these features on the bi-weekly basis , or if they couldn’t handle the work load go monthly basis?
So basically the smaller dlcs are free (living story cough), but when they want to pump out much larger content all at once they pump out a b2p game? Or maybe CDPR should just keep pumping out their free content for Witcher 2 and forget about Witcher 3.
