He stays stationary, but does have a phase where he takes off into the air and you need to defend the mega-cannon and batteries charging the mega-cannon. That said he does seem pretty interesting for a stationary boss.

A bit light on content

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

Hard to tell if the content is light or not. We don’t know how much the other world bosses have changed, nor the amount of story that will come with the patch. When people saw the Queen’s Speech page they found it lacking in content, yet, we got something completely different than the expected “speech”.

Rather than making speculation based on a content page it’s probably smarter to just wait and see.

Don’t listen to the above poster. As Healix has linked, a dev has already stated that SAB will last a month.

Patch came out on Tues, Sept 3. Based on how the patch cycle that has been going on since late April has worked, SAB will go away on Oct 1st; exactly 4 weeks after the patch was introduced.

Thanks for the fix Josh and team.

Although SAB being fairly difficult was somewhat fun, normal mode really did need a nerf considering how many frustrating parts there were. Personally I don’t think you should have changed Tribulation mode since that is designed to frustrate the player, but thanks for putting out the patch so quickly. Now you just need to get rid of all those pesky bugs that came with the change.

Halloween, Wintersday, and Dragon Bash are on rotation

MWF and AR are coming back as fractals

Big Southsun Meta-event with Karka Queen is permanent (just rarely runned, though more people seem to be doing it since rewards were updated).

Bazaar will come back at a later time

We lost 2 minigames from Cutthroat Politics (Aspect Survival will probably return with Bazaar), but kept 2 others as well as one from a long time ago (Crab Toss).

Queen’s Gauntlet will come back at a later time (not sure about the Pavillion)

Chaos Clockwork Invasions are continuing

SAB will be returning

Tequatl changes will be permanent

To be honest I don’t really care if zones come in and out as long as they return at a later point. After a whole month barely anyone was exploring Bazaar or farming in Pavillion.

GoldenTruth.2853

After completing all of World 2 I can definitely say that it is overtuned.

The 3 biggest problems imo are…

1. The enemies are way to powerful. Most of the time enemies seem to require you to dodge when the area you are in simply to tiny. You have stuff like assassins knocking you into instant kill dart traps and bananas taking 2 whole hearts of health from a freeze when you are on a tiny ice panel. I like the platform design itself, however, it simply feels cheap when you have to deal with these mobs that can essentially 1-shot you in addition to the jumps/traps.

2. There are too few checkpoints. For almost all checkpoints when you die you need to run a very long way back.

3. The level itself is too long. This isn’t to say there is too much content, rather, that there is too much in one sitting. I just spent 1.5 hours doing World 2-3, not because I had a huge desire to do so, but because I knew that if I stopped at any point I would be forced to repeat everything that I just did. You should make it so at the start of each zone there is a NPC who can teleport you to the checkpoints you have previously reached.

Also the 2nd form of the Storm Boss has a camera angle that makes it really hard to tell which platforms you can/can’t jump to. I’m sure there is some efficient strategy to kill him, however, after how long it takes to even reach him I can’t say I have the desire to fight him enough to learn it.

Regardless, I enjoy difficult jumping puzzles and did find World 2 fun overall, however, for normal mode this is simply too difficult.

We still want to have some content that can happen each year, our holiday festivals, Super Adventure Box, Zephyr Sanctum, and the new Queens Gauntlet are all intended to be content that will regularly return. The goal of having these in our portfolio of event content that can occur again each year is they allow us the opportunity to easily build on something we’ve already completed as themes for some of our releases for year 2.

Why 80 players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

If 80 people are required, is Tequatl’s chest (not the bonus one) lootable more than once a day? If not, not enough people will show up after prime time, especially on the lower pop servers.

It is yes, Taco will have normal every time rewards (rewards for each 25% health interval you’re able to take him down) as well as a bonus daily reward roll you can also get for defeating him.

Hope the failure rewards are decent enough to keep people interested in Tequatl after the living story moves on to something else.

Also are you going to add a pre-event to Tequatl now that he has a time limit? I know you can use APIs to know his spawn window, but it’s boring to just sit around and wait for him to spawn. Since he will have a time limit won’t people lose some precious time simply waiting the minute or so for the full zerg to show up?

Tequatl revamp vs Zhaitan revamp

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

Rather than revamping a story mode only a handful of people play more than once I’d rather them have some kind of corny plot twist that makes it so Zhaitan isn’t really dead. Then make him either an incredibly difficult world boss that utilizes the whole map (much harder than Tequatl 2.0, and is beaten incredibly rarely), or make him the final boss in some sort of raid-esque content.

Of course, if he was a world boss they would need to make you get rewards based what % you got Zhaitan to such that people are actually willing to fight him even though they know they will lose (and in the off chance you do kill him you get some amazing rewards).

Which parts are RNG besides the camera angle and rift spawn locations?

The patterns change depending on which pod you use, but if you stick with one yes the spawn and angle is the same. It basically penalizes you if you change pods due from lack of time. The rift spawns also change with that so if you’re bouncing from pod to pod trying to find an empty one, it can seem random. Given crowding and randomnesss of overflows etc I think this should have been factored into the design

Another thing I found earlier while trying to do it as a mesmer is that the sword-5 push back skill can be randomly bugged whether it works or not. Again.. if the fight was a little more forgiving, all the bugs and unintended issues would be annoyances but not game breaking.

The furthest I’ve gotten her down is 40% but that was due to good luck more than skill. The problem with this encounter is that it depends a lot more on luck both in phase 1 (spawn patterns of rifts favouring you killing them easily, stuff actually working i.e. hitting the kitten things, shades connecting with portals) and in phase 2 whether or not the hour glass spawns right on top of you or not. Staying closer to the middle gives you the least area to avoid but then its also luck whether or not the clones are around the middle also.

The encounter was designed for best cases, someone’s not a charr/norn, camera works and isn’t slightly delayed when picking up the orbs, skills actually not being bugged , no lag and so on. It just needs to be dialed down a bit to account for imperfect conditions, so it’s still challenging but not impossible if luck isn’t with you.

The rifts are RNG yes, the AoE pattern isn’t really random even when you switch arenas. It looks random from the outside, however, the moment you enter the arena you can look where the light field is and know exactly where the AoEs will spawn for the rest of the fight.

12
34

These numbers are where the AoEs can fall

If the light field is between 3 and 4 (it is always between 2 potential AoE fields) the order will be 2,3,4,1 and repeat that same order until phase 2.

Phase 2 is 1+4, 2+3 and will repeat in that pattern. This means that in phase 2 the area where the AoE just fell is always the safe zone and where it missed it always the danger zone.

The only real luck involved is technical issues such as camera angle and possible lag. Saving an invuln or correctly dodging the AoE when you are in trouble during the transition is part of the fight. Because bombs have a shorter walk period the closer you are to the middle you need to pay attention to how large the circles you make should be.

I think it is a good fight that is very reliant on understanding how the boss works rather than luck, which, unfortunately has several technical issues (such as a few of ones you addressed). I’m not saying I think the fact that bad camera angle can screw you over is good design. I do, however, think that Liadri is well designed mechanically and relies very little on luck.

She’s difficult but it’s the RNG element of luck that is what makes things unfair and not satisfying despite the difficulty

My fixes for the fight
- Change ground circle colour to black. Green would be better since its more obvious but black goes with what she actually casts. Yes the ground can be orange-ish which is harder to distinguish.
- Two orbs thrown at her to get to phase 2, not three since Phase 1 depends on a lot on the randomness of where the portals and the orbs spawn and suck you
- Phase 2’s AOE attack reduced to how it was in phase 1 vs an hourglass

Other non balance issues are the fps and unforgiving nature of the fight if you have one iota of lag/sneeze/get camera screwed. I had to turn my settings all the way down just to have enough of a frame rate to respond to shades. Once I did that I was reaching Phase 2 more consistently.

I know it’s a challenge to even push out higher quality content on the LW production schedule but even if you pull it off, there clearly isn’t enough room or time for adequate testing as we’ve seen throughout these releases and they are aimed for best case. You can compensate for this by taking your best case and dialing it back about 20% to account for the variance of unforeseen things like the issues mentioned above

that would be the most disappointing reveal since…….. since game was released. Why the hell would you need pax to announced something as boring? Just drop a nuke on those boring stationary bosses and build something new that has more than 1 and a half animation…

They are also adding a giant Nuka Cola Quantum world boss. As you damage the giant bottle AoE leaks start popping out of it. If you stand in the AoE for more than 2 seconds your character is permanently transformed into a mutant and will proceed to be made fun of by passing by asura.

Should SAB be temporary?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

I think SAB should be temporary as each World is being made. This revitalizes interest in SAB, both in past levels and new ones. Plus, it makes it seem like more content was developed (being granted access to World 1-4 seems more impressive than just World 4).

However, after SAB is finished, and we save the princess it should be made a permanent addition (and then the team can start working on Super Adventure Box 2 or something, which would follow the same temporary releases until completion).

GoldenTruth.2853

last time we had SAB it was a whole month with no update. Count on that again. It’ll give the living story team time to think up another topic in the living story.

So far it been Molten, SAB1, Aetherblade, SAB2.

When they 1st made SAB they were still doing 1 update per month. The main update was F&F the Razing (March 26th) with SAB coming out 6 days later (April 1st).

Besides, they already said they are doing new content updates every 2 weeks.

World 3 as the update for the 17th?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

I think SAB is a side project that is unrelated to the 4 living story teams. The reason why they tossed SAB in here is because October will have 3 content updates, making it so after October the teams each have their own month (so it’s less confusing).

So my guess would be:

Sept 3: SAB

Sept 17: LS Team 1
Oct 1: LS Team 1

Oct 15: LS Team 2
Oct 29: LS Team 2

Nov 5th: LS Team 3
Nov 19: LS Team 3

But that’s just a guess since it makes keeping track of the teams easier.

Sigil slots for legendary weapons next update

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

Sigils do boost stats…..

Superior Sigil of Bloodlust gives you +10 Power for every kill.. (max 25 stacks)
Superior Sigil of Perception gives you +10 Precision for every kill.. (max 25 stacks)

Yeah, well I think his post is relevant since there are so many sigils that aren’t simple stat increases (and even the ones you just posted require you to kill mobs without getting downed).

I wouldn’t worry too much about it though. I would guess that we would keep sigils as well as have infusion slots added on top since there is such a variety of sigils (legendary crafting even requires a sigil).

I would, however, like to question if 2H weapons will get 2 infusion slots/2x the benefit from the slot since this provides a slight agony resistance advantage for dual wielding.

The price of weapons seem to change based on which living story is active. The Aetherized Weapons were 1 ticket during the Cutthroat Politics, however, after it ended the tickets required became 5. The same thing should occur with this living story’s BLTC weapons; currently Zodiac weapons are 1, they should increase once the update ends.

I will NEVER pay a fee just to log in a game again. GW2 has proven that you don’t need sub fees to maintain and grow a MMO, heck they are putting out more content than sub based games.

It has actually kind of proven you DO need subscription fees to deliver large, meaty content updates on a regular schedule. Compare what WoW has released over the past year to what GW2 has and there’s simply no comparison — WoW wins hands down.

1 raid (2 if you want to count the upcoming raid that will appear before its year is up), a couple daily zones, and a handful of scenarios?

If GW2 added 12 living story content patches together (the same amount of time as it takes them to make 1 raid) I’m sure most players would consider that quite “meaty”.

Southsun Cove vs Invasion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

3 reasons why I think this won’t end up like Southsun:

1. People were on Southsun mainly because of the 200% magic find boost, Karka Queen loot was just a bonus. After MF boost went away there wasn’t much incentive to be on the island. For this invasion the main incentive is champion bags, something that will stay permanent.

2. Karka Queen requires multiple people to actually secure and hold all 4 outposts. Because Karka Queen is generally never on cooldown, it’s harder for people to know when others who are willing to hold the outposts will even be on Southsun. With invasions there is a set time that it is available that everyone knows.

3. Unlike Southsun, the invasion events actually scale to the number of players so it’s ok if a huge zerg doesn’t flock there (though this somewhat takes away from the reward).

I wouldn’t complain if the patches weren’t 85% the same. Those ARE the cores of these patches, and the stuff you’re talking about is the other meaningless 15%. Sure, that 15% is the percentage that changes, but it’s 15%. Who cares when it is that minimal?

No….they really aren’t….

I’m not sure how a Dungeon/Jumping Puzzle patch like Sky Pirates feels like it has the same focus as one with a bunch of minigames like Cutthroat simply because both have moments where you kill Aetherblades.

Maybe they seem the same because you are looking at the achievements rather than actually experiencing it? If you looked at it like that, talking to the 6 npcs in Bazaar would seem to have the same relevance in setting the mood of the patch as the crystal scavenger hunt (which they most certainly do not).

Each new patch tells you to go collect 200 items. Go press F 200 times in these places. Now go talk to 10 of these unimportant people. Oh, now you have to visit this place. It stays the same with every patch.

We haven’t had a patch that tells us to press F a bunch of times (except for the bad voting interface during Cutthroat Politics), Collect/Use a bunch of items, or talk to an unimportant person X since Dragon Bash O_o. The only thing thing that might fit with this complaint would be visiting past jumping puzzles which we did for Bazaar and Cutthroat.

Anyway, if you haven’t logged in for the past 3 patches I’m not sure you can realistically argue about them being bad.

Bazaar of the Four Winds: Go press F 7 times on 7 different kites spread out through the world. Now go press F on 60 different baskets that fell out of the sky. Now go collect 500 crystals in Sanctum Sprint. Speak to the Sun Adept, the Wind Adept, and the Lightning Adept. Meet the 5 different traders throughout Labyrinthine Cliffs.

Southsun: Visit all important locations. Meet each VIP in Southsun. Gossip with lord Faren and Lady Kasmeer. Now go press F on 11 different samples spread out through Southsun.

Sky Pirates: Kill 250 Aetherblades. Go get all 12 hidden caches spread throughout Tyria. Talk to 6 different important people. Go press F on all hidden items throughout the new dungeon.

Credit for this information goes to Dulfy.net with my thanks.

I could’ve gone on and on, but I think you get my point. All of the patches are nearly identical with minimal changes throughout all of the patches, yet you tell me you didn’t visit a single unimportant person or press F 200 times for rewards. Right.

I would not consider finding the kites simply a “Press ‘F’” event considering you actually had to go out and do something (jumping puzzle, part of the fractal, etc). You are however correct about the basket one as well as the npc one (though the npc one is so simple it completely escaped me). Collect 500 crystals in Sanctum Sprint is a simple play a minigame achievement, not really even close to what you complain about.

Southsun is irrelevant to my post, I said since Dragon Bash (which you did correct me on).

During Sky Pirates “Killing Aetherblades” doesn’t really fit under the specifics you complained about, but I suppose you could broaden your argument to any kind of pointless grind (which Aetherblades would fall under). Finding the caches, like the kites, aren’t simple “Press ‘F’” things. The people you talked to had storyline significance (though more as a means of seeing the influence the Aetherblades have throughout Tyria, and increasing player speculation into who was the culprit).

Edit: You are making it seem like all these patches are fundamentally the same, yet, many of them are quite different:

Southsun focused on events in the world.

Dragon Bash brought the focus to holdiday-esque content and story.

Sky Pirates introduced a new dungeon (something that hadn’t been added since April) and jumping puzzle (something that also hadn’t been added in a while).

Bazaar then built a medium-sized zone, focusing on platforming elements along with a platforming mini-game.

Cutthroat focused on several mini-games as well as sparking a ton of debate/controversy on the forums over fract…I mean candidate choice.

Now we have Queen’s Jubilee, which, somewhat like Southsun is focused on events, but, with new elements such as challenging solo fights.

Simply because some of them share negligible achievements like “kill X aetherblades” as opposed to “kill X enemies in Crown Pavillion” doesn’t mean that the core of the patches are the same.

But, yeah, you were right on some points. I was just trying to remember the achievements off the top of my head and glossed over some.

Each release has less and less Content IMO

The biggest content update was November which introduced Southsun as well as FotM. The 2nd biggest was Febuary’s which first introduced Guild Missions (though it was impossible to see how large it was because of how the missions were time gated by merits).

Other than that, the updates have generally gotten larger and larger. You have to keep in mind that every 2 updates is made by one team, so there might be some uneven split in how much content there is (Cutthroat Politics was smaller than Bazaar whereas Sky Pirates was larger than Dragon Bash), however, the amount of content we are getting has definitely improved over time.

It’s all about the Server. On mine I can’t walk a minute on ANY Map without seeing people running around doing stuff. There are a ton of people on my server and I get in a Overflow everytime in Lions Arch, the Pavillion and any Area where a Meta Event happens when I’m not fast enough.

So I got cirous, and decided to check a few areas.

I decided to check LA, and the two most common champion farms in CS. I assume you will include 7 pm central as prime time, but who knows. The server is Borlis Pass. Which as I’m testing is listed as “very high”. I’m not sure what very high is, but I can post more screen shots. The only thing we have a queue on is the actual pavilion, which btw had an artificially low number set on it I will let others speculate why.

You are welcome to check the time stamps on the mini map.

1st picture can be explained by culling (though that doesn’t mean the low numbers are disproved)

2nd and 3rd picture you can easily tell the champ train is at a different champion by looking at where the commander icon is :/

Edit: Yeah, guested onto Borlis Pass LA and it was pretty crowded. Counted 50+ people in the Bank/Mystic forge area (and some could have been removed due to culling)

When can I get Fractal Weapons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

You can get them to drop at 20+, however, the chances drastically increase at 40+ (though not to the point of being optimal because of the RNGness of the weapon type)

In general how threads like these are formed:

1. Reddit comes up with some crazy conspiracy
2. 1 week later Wooden Potatoes does a video which implements and usually somewhat refines this conspiracy (and gives credit to Reddit)
3. Several hours later threads pop up that make it sound like out of the blue they had the sudden revelation of said conspiracy.

Even though I think the theory is wrong (or, at least the part with Kiel being evil), at least throw some credit to Reddit and WP. They are the ones who did all the work :/

Liadri Phase 2 Tips??

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: GoldenTruth.2853

GoldenTruth.2853

In phase 2 the Shadowfall AoE always covers up the arena like an hourglass. However, it will never strike the same place twice (so the safe spot is where the AoE just hit and the danger spot is where the AoE just missed). So just kite the boss in a small to medium size circle (easier to reach a safe spot the smaller the circle, but harder to kite the bombs). The orbs are random but take ~5 seconds to pull you, so just kill them within that time period (or bring stability so that window increases).
