I haven’t tried, but usually inactive skills are by weapon, so you could swap and use a skill before it normally recharges. Beyond that, there are some weapon sigils that fire an ability when you swap to the weapon. You could make use of those by swapping weapons.
Thank you.
So basically if you have two spears when you swap you can have alternative stances ? Excuse my rookiness.
I’m level 46 at the moment and wondering since Revenants can only use spears underwater what is the significance of the weapon swap underwater ?
Thank you for replies.
I’m level 24 and I don’t know how to get the Centaur stance skills to work. Unlike the Demon and Assassin stance the Centaur stance skills only show lightning bolts and do nothing when I click them.
So you’re not underwater?
Above your 1-5 skillbar you should see 2 little icons where you’d see other profession mechanics like mesmer shatters or ranger pet controls. Revenants swap between 2 “legends” from GW1, and those legends will supply the skills on your 6-10 slots. When you are on land, and have Jalis selected as your legend, you’ll have the heal skill Soothing Stone selected. If you hit F1 and swap to a different legend that you’ve equipped, you’ll have a new heal skill equipped (and yes you can heal twice in a row that way.)
I think it’s a bug. I read from another Revenant player that his heal skill disappeared at level 8 and came back at level 11.
On revenants you aren’t allowed to select your heal skill, it comes with the legend you have selected (Jalis in your case I think?) Did you somehow switch to a blank 2nd legend?
Try messing around with your profession mechanic bar, equipping and unequipping things.
Also if you’re underwater, several of the legends don’t work at all. Revenants don’t mix well with water.
Not sure what I did. I haven’t played this game in a year and decided to purchase Heart of Thorns. I have no idea about legends or how to select them. I know I had a heal skill in my skill box and now I don’t so…..oh well.
When I hit level 8 my heal skill disappeared from the skill box. I tried to re assign it but can’t.
Has this happened to any other low level Revenant players ?
Was your heal the anti-toxin thing from the tower of nightmares? That was removed from the game.
No, the heal skill simply disappeared from the skill bar on my Revenant character I just made. I’m only at level 8. I tried to re select it but the game isn’t letting me. I’m wondering if it’s a bug.
There is no drop down box or anything under the heal skill that will allow me to re assign the heal skill to the skill box.

Somehow my healing ability is no longer on the skill bar. How do I put it back onto the skill bar ?
This is actually a serious question. I’m not sure if I’m bugged at the moment or the way you place skills on the skill bar have been changed and I just don’t know how to do it.

Another thought, I bought it through the in game store, so if you buy it from a different computer make sure you do whatever is required to link it to your core account. Since the core game is free, you wouldn’t want it making an entirely new account for you.
Oh Okay. Well to be on the safe side I too will purchase it through the in game store.
Thanks !

Digital. It is added to your core account, so it doesn’t matter where you buy it from.
I’d also throw out there black friday is coming up, so there might be a sale?
Thanks !
Purchasing Heart Of Thorns Question
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: GuildWarsPlayer.5608
I’ve been away from GW2 for about a year now and thinking of returning. Is the the Heart Of Thorns Expansion a digital download after purchase or is a download disk sent to the purchasers home address ? If it is a digital download, would it be best to purchase Heart Of Thorns on the pc that GW2 is downloaded on or does it matter ?
Silly questions ? Probably but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
For pre-purchase? No. See the official retailers.
After launch when the standard edition is available? Probably. Any retailer could potentially obtain copies, but it’ll likely be hard to find and have a low supply.
Thanks.
The Revenant is only released when Heart of Thorns(expansions to Guild Wars 2) is released. Like FULLY released, though if you mean by wanting a revenant right now for your beta slot. (Pre-purchase HoT) You need to wait until a Beta Weekend is announced and then you’ll be able to make a Revenant.
Though you’ll be limited to what will be used or to creating a Revenant. Since as far to my knowledge that only the human race can be a Revenant.
Once the Beta Weekend is all gone and then Heart of Thorns is finally released, the Revenant you made for the beta will go poof and there boom you will have a full out fun time with a good o’ Revenant. (When HoT will be released? You can probably wonder around the forums to find some speculations of when it might be released.)
Can Heart Of Thorns be purchased at Best Buy or do you have to order it online when it fully comes out ?
Been gone quite some time now. How do I get this profession ?
Been gone for some time now and wondering if I will be able to purchase Heart Of Thorns at Best Buy ?
I saw a comment that said pc games aren’t meant to be played with a gamepad. If this is true, why are there pc gamepads ?
In my experience anyone who uses a gamepad against those who use m+k will never be able to perform equally in twitch-based combat. There is a long history of this, so I cannot imagine it being an issue. That said, most if not all modern gamepads can be bound to match the functions of m+k. Anyone who desires to play that way so desperately can easily do it themselves.
Hmmmm. Well I think it depends on the game. I know for a fact that the Gamepad in DC Universe gives you a slight advantage over the mouse and keyboard because of quick mobility and comfort.
I hear the gamepad works very well in Tera with pvp for the same reason but I can’t put a stamp on that one because I have yet to fully play the game.
Insert something about how this isn’t a console game…
MMO’s don’t lend themselves to controller support, if they did they would need to be designed slightly differently and that would take away from the default KB/Mouse users that outnumber controller users by a large margin.Hate console ports that just lazily bind controller input to the keyboard and mouse or expect that it can be used just as well with a mouse on their controller interface…
Anyway, this is why third party support is there, for the PC players that use controllers or just haven’t gotten used to or refuse to adapt to using a KB/Mouse.
I don’t know any PC only MMO’s that support controllers by default.
DC Universe, Tera Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online and Champions Online all have default gamepad support.
I’ve come across 4 mmo’s with " default " gamepad support and I must say, the combat is much better and more relaxing than the keyboard and mouse, in my opinion.
Does anyone feel this game would be better with " default " gamepad support ?
Playing with second hand gamepad support software like Xpadder seems like a player could run into trouble since the game wasn’t designed by the developers to use a gamepad which is why I place emphasize on " default " gamepad support.
DCUO has mastered controller support with in an mmo. I saw something where DDO has controller support that works really good.
Not sure why GW2 has no controller support since it’s one of the better mmo’s out there right now.
Thanks for the replies. I’m a one character player now for mmo’s which is the reason for this thread. I will be starting fresh and maxing this character out. This will be the case for every mmo I play although GW2 and DCUO are the only two mmo’s that have heald me through out the years.
Out of all the classes I have played in GW2 for some reason Elementalist holds me which is odd since they do not have the ability to weapon swap.
Weapon swapping during combat is a big draw for me to this game yet the profession I like the best isn’t able to utilize that option…..go figure lol.
Anyway, thanks for the replies and all have a wonderful day.
Guess not, sorry for asking ( sigh )
Is it okay to ask what improvements have been made for Elementalist in, lets say, the past year ?
I’ve been active on the boards here and there but I haven’t actually played the game in about a years time but will be returning soon and starting fresh. I really like this profession and am just wondering the state of the profession as of now.
Thanks in advance for any who care to converse on this topic.
You sure seem to be a returning player a few times over the last 3 months.
I am. I’ve been on the board but not on the actual game. I deleted all of my characters last year. As you can see, no one answered my previous returning player comments so every month or so I try again.
I’ve been playing DC Universe and now looking to return to GW2. Those are the only two games I find interesting at the moment as far as action combat goes.
The plan now is to play only one character per mmo so I can move around and make progress when I get bored with one.
Oh my, he’s gone, I think I am a victim of the troll lord.

Unless you’ve missed Living Story season 2 and want to get it. You could farm the gold and convert or buy the gems with cash and get them.
How much is living story 2 in real life money and where do I go to buy it ?
Returning player with one simple question. Has there been anything added that I need to buy with real life money to catch up ? If so, what is it and where do I need to go to purchase it ? Oh yeah, and how much is it ?
I’m off playing another mmo at the moment I was just wondering what’s been added to the game ? Any expansions, New content ? New races ? Professions ?
Thanks if anyone cares to share.
Well even without weapon swap you have twice as much skills compared to other classes so there’s no need to introduce this especially in terms of class balance. So no weapon swap for ele, I’ve also not heard about this being part of a future patch.
In general, ele is a very good choice at the moment since it’s in a good spot in every gamemode.
Cool. Yeah, I’m gonna go back with the Elementalist. I’ve played all the classes and leveled them all to 80 in the past. Elementalist seems to be the class I’ve always been most drawn too, even without the weapon swap.
Appreciate the reply.
I’ve been sampling new mmo’s to see what is and what isn’t worth playing and as of right now, There’s still nothing out there that compares to GW2 in my opinion so I’m back. Gonna start fresh with only 1 character this go round and am considering the elementalist. Has there been any significant changes to the class in the past few months ? Oh here is a good question ….. can elementalist weapon swap now by any chance ?
Edit: I originally came up with my build by experimenting with it in pvp, but it has served me pretty well in pve roaming, dungeons, and wvw (roaming and zerging) too, so I thought I’d share it (even if it’s not the most elite):
For damage, I focus on keeping constant condition AND direct damage pressure. Eruption into Lava Font + Flame Burst. You can also use Lightning Flash while casting Meteor Shower to avoid taking a lot of damage.
For survivability, you’re immune to conditions as long as you’re above 90% health, so focusing on swapping attunements frequently is important. With sigil of renewal you’ll heal every 9 seconds when you swap to any attunement, and with sigil of leeching your next attack after swapping attunements every 9 seconds will not only do about 974 damage on top of its original damage, but will also heal you for 975 (not affected by power or healing power). Remembering to swap to water when you take heavy hits that knock you below 90% will help a lot, too, since it’ll be a burst heal + condition removal, and if the sigils proc on that swap you’ll also heal even more.
This setup might work with more offensive armor stats, as well, if you can chain your skills together well. You could also use the standard 0/2/0/6/6 or 0/0/2/6/6 trait setups if they’re more comfortable for you, since I know a lot of people get hung up about diamond skin lol.
I think your attack rotations and being able to time and place your CC/heals well is more important than the actual build/trait setup in pve with a staff, though.
Thanks ! What type of Staff and Armor do you use ? Also, what type of runes do you use for armor ? Oh yeah, what type of accessories do you use ( Back, rings, earrings, Amulets ) ?
Well, it’s in the build link, but I use celestial armor, trinkets, and staff with traveler’s runes, sigil of leeching and sigil of renewal. I also use Super Veggie Pizza and Hardened Sharpening Stone for my food buffs because I’m cheap lol.
Some tanky alternatives to celestial gear is cleric’s armor with Soldier’s trinkets/staff (or vice versa), or knight’s armor with cavalier staff/trinkets, or even full settler/apothecary/cleric’s armor would work. If you want more damage, you could do soldier’s/cleric’s/cavalier’s/knight’s armor with berserker’s trinkets, or just experiment a bit.
I was using soldier’s armor with cleric’s trinket and a soldier staff up until I got my celestial gear. You don’t have to worry about survivability, but it can take a while to kill things, especially if you’re not using a bursty rotation (like just auto attacking). :P
Do you have to be able to weapon swap for sigil of leeching to work ?
For MOST “on swap” sigils and effects ele will trigger them with attunement swaps.
Makes sense, thank you.
What do you expect, them to run up to someone and bash them on the head with it? Actually that would be pretty cool if eles could do that if they used gust or something when someone is less than 150 feet away.
In a certain other mmo I used to play, staff was used as a melee weapon as well as a ranged weapon. The melee part of the staff would be used as a martial arts type of weapon, like you would see martial artist using staff as a melee weapon in kungkittenmovies.

Cool, thanks. I like D/D but, in my opinion, they lack range. Staff of course is great for range but, I was having problems staying alive when things closed in on me. I can’t stand scepter, so D/D and Staff are the weapons I’m focusing on.
Again, I appreciate your help.

So, I’m still trying to make staff ( for me ) a viable solo roaming pve weapon and failing miserably. D/D, I have no problem with taking down mobs when I get rushed. Staff ? I get owned by certain mobs when rushed.
So with that, I would like to know, from experienced Staff Elementalist, what is your trait layout ? points and abilities. What type of Staff are you fond of ? Carrion, Berserker, Cleric ?
Maybe I can take your build and mix it with mine, which is terrible at the moment, obviously, and become a viable Staff Elementalist.
Thanks in advance for any information given.
Is it that hard for some people to perform great with this profession even after spending 2 years? even as a bunker 25 stacks might dps spec? really? I guess the class is not meant for everyone. Probably they are first timers playing a mage type of profession on a mmorpg. The ele is not beginner friendly that’s for sure.
Update: I am once again playing Elementalist as my primary.
Something about this profession is hard for me to walk away from lol.
Oh I almost forgot. I bet op will return as well lol
If Elementalist could simply weapon swap, it would put the profession on equal ground with the others.
yep.
Also give Polymorph or Supply Crate similar skill as Elite right?
That would finally make ele be on the same balance level as other classes.
not.
This response flew right over my head. Apologies. Also, my comment was only in my opinion.
True.
For me, leveling with D/D was pretty easy in terms of taking down mobs and survivability. I use Staff for group events and champions for the most part.
I have a level 80 Warrior as well and in my opinion, the Warrior is superior when soloing.
It seems like the Elementalist profession isn’t as well rounded as the professions that are able to weapon swap, yet, I keep playing Elementalist as my primary. Go figure.
Yeah, I too will no longer main this profession because, in my opinion, Elementalist aren’t
as balanced as the other professions. I mean, out of ALL of the professions, this one seems to be the least balanced. This is just my opinion.
If Elementalist could simply weapon swap, it would put the profession on equal ground with the others.
I will never delete my Elementalist but the profession is no longer my primary because in my opinion, the other professions are more balanced.
Nope, sorry. Not a stupid question, we just don’t have that.
Appreciate the response. Out of all the professions it seems Elementalist is the least well rounded, in my opinion ofcourse.
Is there a way to make the projectile distance further than 400 for D/D ? Is there a trait or sigil that can enhance this ?
Apologies if this is a stupid question but the question is worth a shot in my opinion.
When casting, the elementalist just kinda holds the staff off to the side while casting with his hand. Its really bothering me.
Staff is more of a group weapon than a roaming weapon in my opinion. I find staff more viable as a support weapon.
mmmmm k, imma take that as a NO.
Nice thing about GW2 is the diversity of builds. What works for one man may not work for the other, so with that said, if you wanna stay in one attunement, do so. I know it can be done because I have done it.
I found, for me, with my build, in wvw, staying in fire while fighting with D/D I survive longer than when switching attunements constantly.
D/D projectiles range should be more than 400 ?
Same thing happening to me. It goes this way from time to time with all mmo’s.
