What? nonononono staff is for group play it sucks for leveling (crap damage).
Best weapon for leveling is the lightning hammer-blinds make you pretty much invulnerable against most mobs.
For offense you should go s/d in melee range-start in fire, aggro ~5 mobs use ring of fire, dragons tooth, pheonix targeted just behind the mobs (and inside the ring of fire)
If they aren’t dead switch to earth and hit earthquake and churning earth (bring arcane shield or armor of earth or lighning flash for when you start chaneling churning)-not dead yet? switch to air and mash buttons or switch to water to heal (you have 2 pretty good heals and an aura there),rinse repeat.
Or just grab Conjurer trait and LH everything to death.
Do NOT think that spamming 1# on scepter earth is an efficient way to level.

Appreciate the advice.

I have three level 80’s which I’ve always used the bloodlust sigil with. I’m thinking that sigil would not be the preferred sigil for an elementalist looking to do damage with a staff. Any recommendation for a good sigil, both minor and major, to go with ?

Still a rookie to the profession.

blasting staff increases the AoE size by a lot
it’s a 20 point trait in the arcane line, so lv 40 is the earliest you can take it. but I wouldn’t take it at 40 since at those low levels the stats on the traits tend to matter more than the traits themselves, and arcane’s stats are boon duration and attunement swap cooldown. which aren’t any better at low levels than they are at 80 (indeed, they’re a bit worse, since you don’t have as many other traits for them to amplify). meanwhile earth is flat condition damage and toughness, and fire is flat power (and condition duration), so they’re the best low level traits by far. so I wouldn’t take staff until 50.

But staff can do good single target damage, provided you land all of your attacks. It has two SUPER strong attacks (eruption and lava font), and they are ground targeted delayed AoEs

Cool. For me, seems like the staff is the weapon of choice. I can stay alive longer with staff for some odd reason.

Apprciate the reply.

scepter/whatever for low level easy mode (may not be the fastest way to level, but it sure as heck is easy. put your traits in earth and stack bleeds on your enemies. also use that toughness buff and never hurl the rocks)
dagger/dagger for fastest killing, but you’ll probably die a bit until you get used to it (assuming you’re like me and like to fight things a few levels higher than you)
and staff I can’t recommend until you have the blasting staff trait

What does the blasting staff trait do and what level does it kick in ? Only reason I didn’t mention staff was, it seems not to be that good on mobs. Staff seems to be a better group weapon imo as a nube to the profession.

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I was told that some people play GW2 with a controller ( gamepad) but programs have to be downloaded in order to get the controller to work with the game.

With that said, how about having a default controller support option, where you could simply plug the controller ( gamepad ) in and you’re good to go ?

I won’t name other mmo’s that have controller support, since game comparison isn’t allowed, but I have played some that do. With GW2 being the number 1 mmo out right now, controller support seems like a good option.

Just a suggestion.

Just about every world boss, with the exception of Fire Shaman and Dredge (less now so) usually die within 3-5 min of being up (Claw taking maybe 15-20 min). You can usually suggest FS though, if nothing else is up at the time, and you’ll have a couple of takers (you only need 2-3 to take him down anyways). At least on my server.

Based on your title I thought this was going to be a discussion about the events themselves, not which are the easiest to kill.

Didn’t say anything about easiest to kill, read the op again.

Edit: Don’t take that as being smart or trying to be a net banger – keyboard killer, I just think you misunderstood the original post. Thanks for your reply.

Er, sorry “easiest” was the wrong word, my mistake. I wrapped that into “most popular”, because on my server all of the world bosses (besides temples and the eye of zhaitan) have a huge zerg waiting for them and usually die <5min. When I have the time world boss hunting, I can usually kill “all” (not including the temples or one or two of the more obscure ones) of them in about 2-3 hours, depending how the timers line up. I don’t know how other servers are, but from what I’ve seen usually as soon as a boss goes up there’s a zerg waiting for him. Again, sorry for the confusion.

It’s all to the good. I never run into people when Fire Shaman is up, on my server, even though the server population is always very high lol. This is one of the reasons I came up with this thread. Wanted to know which events I should focus on and which one’s would be pointless to focus on. I’ve only gotten lucky a few times on the temple ( Cathedral ) events. Most of the time I go to those and no one is there.

Thanks for your reply.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

You actually need to use the forge several times to make the weapon – first to make the Mystic Clovers, then the various Gifts, then combining the final 4 parts to make the Legendary itself.

If you want to you can save up all the individual components and then make it all in one go, but it’s probably a lot easier to make each part as and when you’ve got the ingredients.

As far as I know (I haven’t made one yet) you don’t need a recipe for the legendary itself, just for the specific Gift, and those can be bought from Miyani who is next to the Forge.

Thank you sir.

Tallying up the costs of everything you can buy to make a legendary (precursor and all gifts save Mastery)… crafting Twilight, if you bought all the materials but made Gift of Mastery yourself, would cost approximately 1404.64g. Twilight is currently being sold for 1777.77g. In other words, if you buy the legendary directly, you’re paying a markup of ~374g.

Just throwing that out there in case anyone finds it interesting. I will say that the crafting price varies depending on your luck with clovers, the market, and how many mats you have saved up/get dropped. Also, I did that calculation on paper (no calculator) and with plenty of rounding, so it may be off here or there.

I looked on the trading post today and Twilght is actually going for 1525. Eternity is going for 1740. I’m not sure if these prices change or not but as of right now those are the prices listed on the main screen. When I pulled up legendary weapons through the search options, the price you listed came up. Confusing.

The 1525g is the buy order. Someone’s basically saying they’re willing to buy Twilight for 1525g, but there’s no guarantee if anyone will bite. The ~1700 price refers to the selling price- if you were to buy Twilight immediately, that would be the price you would have to pay.

Ah Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for replies and information.

The “Top Value Items” column is always for buy orders.

https://bravevesperia.com/extra/weaponcalculator.php can show you the cost of the various parts of a legendary. The actual price can be significantly cheaper since you can use buy orders to get some things for less. For things like lodestones it is generally cheaper to get cores and convert to lodestones.

It’s always going to be cheaper to craft it your self even if you are just buy the raw ingredients and putting them together. It cost around 1400g to make Twilight. It needs to be sold for around 1650g just to break even due to the listing fee and taxes.

Crafting seems to be the way to go then. Are there any sites that tell you what you need and where to go to get what you need for Twilight ? It would be nice to be able to print out the ingredients needed.

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I don’t play other mmo’s at the moment because I haven’t ran across any other mmo that gives you full access to the game without the player having to shell out money for full access to that game.

I was on the DC Universe message board today just to see how the community was holding up and if anything has been changed as far as game dynamics go. The answer to that is…..no. You still have to shell out money for dlc’s and full access to the game. Since playing GW2 I just don’t see the point in spending money on games that, in my opinion, don’t meet the quality and standard of GW2.

Has anyone else run into this situation ?

Greatsword; Mesmer vs Guardian

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I stand by great swords being used as melee weapons and not ranged weapons. I quit playing my Mesmer because of the great sword being the highest damage dealer ( range wise ) out of their weapons. Great Swords as ranged weapons isn’t my preference.

Edit: Forgot to answer the question. I definitely would go with the Guardian over the Mesmer for the great sword. IMO the great sword is the best weapon for Guardians and Warriors, when it comes to melee combat.

Looking for some advice on a decent Mesmer solo build where I can survive Orr.

I’ve been pretty much playing the game with my Warrior and Guardian, which are great classes IMO, but looking to switch up play style from time to time with My Mesmer.

I’m currently working on a Mesmer build that will allow me to solo the entire map. So I’m looking for a build that has good damage output and good survivability.

Of course Mesmer’s are a totally different class than Warrior and Guardian, so what works for them probably won’t work well for a Mesmer.

Any suggestions on what type of build would go well for a solo Mesmer ? I would like to work a build around staff and dual swords if possible.

Also any suggestions on what type of sigils, runes and slot kills used, would be appreciated as well.

I read somewhere that GW2 is working on a que system for dungeons and such. It would be nice to be able to run dungeons with random people to spice things up.

DC Universe ( When I was playing it ) had/has a great que system for their group instances. Once qued up you could run around and do stuff until a group was found. Ofcourse there were problems with kick abuse but they kinda made it where people weren’t allowed to kick for no reason, once enough complaints came in.
