I think being able to take care of yourself and not depend on anyone is the reason GW2 is as of right now, the only mmo I play.

Oh I almost forgot, GW2 is buy to play and not pay to play like wow which puts GW2 above, one again, IN MY OPINION.

And yet again, another post that points out the only real strenght GW2 has… The F2P model…

I doubt this game would be doing as well as it is just because it is BUY TO PLAY. The buy to play is an addition to the greatness of the game, not its only strength.

Agreed. As of right now GW2 is unchallenged in the mmo market ( IMO )

I too have played those mmo’s you’ve mentioned and more. Since playing GW2 i have uninstalled them all.

First, Blizzard/World of Warcraft would disagree that GW2 is unchallenged in the MMO market…as well as Eve online will has been around longer than any of the games mentioned, and still pumps out expansions.

Second, popular titles like Wildstar and TESO have yet to enter the market.

Third, The MMOs he mentioned, aside from maybe Neverwinter and Rift, are garbage not just by my standards, but majority of people as well. It is why they have shrunk servers, changed pricing models, and why if you ask anyone that plays MMOs or knows anything about MMOs, games like aion and swtor are associated with failure. So if you compare a relative successful game like GW2 with a relative failure of a game like Aion, you’re not proving anything. You have to compare against legit games like WoW.

I said " IN MY OPINION". As far as wow goes, that was the first successful mmo out on the market, so with being out that long of course they will have the largest population, which is slowly declining thanks to alternatives like GW2.

Oh I almost forgot, GW2 is buy to play and not pay to play like wow which puts GW2 above, one again, IN MY OPINION.

Guild Wars 2: #Solo ?

I’ve soloed most of the pve map with Warrior, Guardian,Mesmer and Elementalist. Out of those 4 the Elementalist was by far the toughest. I’m currently working on A Thief reason being, I was told it’s easy to get 100 % map completion because you are able to sneak by certain champs and achieve certain challenges without fighting.

Guardian was the easiest followed by Warrior next, for me atleast.

You need to improve teamwork in this game.

S/D tank build is probably your best bet for soloing if you just want to roam and get POIs. Zerk for combat. Keep your head on a swivel (err, camera) so you don’t get ganked, and I advise the Tornado Elite in most situations you’ll find.

Ele is a current cornerstone for the meta WvW teams. the Blasting Staff trait gives you some sick support abilities. Outside a group though (and inside0 you’re one squishy lil thang.

Good luck on your 100%

Appreciate the info.

Welcome to mmo’s. Every mmo I have ever played has abused the kick feature. All I can suggest is prepare yourself to be kicked and if it happens do not let it bother you. It’s the nature of the beast when online gaming.

One thing I like about GW2 is, if you do get kicked there is a lot of other things to do while waiting on a new group. With other mmo’s i have played, if you get kicked, that’s it until you can get into another group which could take hours.

ESO and WildStar are both going to be subscription based so I doubt Anet will have to worry about anything they put out.

From what I’ve seen with ESO, again, I doubt Anet has anything to worry about from that game for sure. WildStar looked impressive from what I’ve seen but, the monthly sub is going to set it back.

Elementalists weaknesses

For me I see a weakness in range and melee in the profession. Where as the other classes have good range and melee capabilities through weapon swap, the Elementalist doesn’t.

Some say S/D is equivalent to the other professions range and melee capabilities but I disagree.

I can admit that I could be doing it wrong. I can also admit that it’s easier to survive with other professions over the Elementalist. It’s a matter of opinion, however, I seem to have more support when it comes to other professions being stronger than the Elementalist.

Don’t get me wrong, I will always have my Elementalist. I no longer delete professions after level 80, but for right now, I think I’m going to focus on what I feel, are the stronger professions.

Thanks for the feedback. GW2 has the best community I have run into for mmo’s thus far.

I pretty much have finished off the pve map and decided to work on completing the wvw map. Oh my god did I get the crap beat out of me.

When running with a zerg I did okay with staff but when I set off on my own I got beat down using D/D.

This didn’t happen with any of my other professions. The problem was the lack of up close combat and ranged combat.

Since Elementalist can’t weapon swap and doesn’t really have a balance between range and melee I was owned by experienced players.

I didn’t realize how much of a disadvantage the Elementalist are at when compared to other professions, but now I see where all of the complaints are coming from.

Now this isn’t a rant, just an observation. Also, I now see what some of the players are complaining about when they say the Elementalist is unbalanced compared to the other classes.

I only read the title so forgive me if I repeat anything you’ve already stated but you can finish your story. You got wvw. You can always roam the map and do champs and those lil orange events that constantly reset. Uh, you can always do those escort missions, those are all over the place. Uh, you can always explore and find hidden content. Uh, you can discover all of the shaded area’s. Uh, you got pvp and spvp. You can Dragon farm. You can do temples. Uh, you can do dungeons and fractals. Oh yeah, oh yeah, you can work on your legendary ( Good luck with that ). And you can do the new content thats added every two weeks.

Mannnnnn thats a lot of stuff you can constantly do. There seems to always be something to do in this game and it’s constantly growing.

OMG ! I almost forgot, you can do fractals and Guild Missions if you are in uh guild. I’m saying all this assuming you’ve gotten 100% map completion, if not, then you can work on that as well.

This is all I’m coming up with right now but I’m sure there’s more that can be done. There’s always something to do in this game, which is why I’m such a big supporter at the moment.

Elementalist as a main ?

in Elementalist

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

Ele has been my main since BWE1 (since GW1 launch really.) I love him to death. I’ve got a warrior and ranger at 80 and I play them occasionally, but it’s like staying over at a friends house; after a night or two I really just want to get home to my ele. The other classes just don’t resonate with me in the same way.

Also, we’ve got enough mesmer, guardian, warrior, and necro mains. Every time I see the Bifrost I get excited and then sigh because it’s a guardian. I’ve seen maybe three eles besides myself with ascended weapons, and twelve thousand warriors/guards with asc. greatswords. We need more ele mains.

Yeah, same here. None of the other professions hold me like the Elementalist. I guess the challenge of the profession is what does it for me, plus their really good for group play. A staff Elementalist is an asset to any group IMO.

Elementalist as a main ?

in Elementalist

Posted by: GuildWarsPlayer.5608

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I am maining an Ele. Many times I kick myself in the head whenever I am lying on the ground dead after being one shot by a boss or by a backstabbing thief, while my friend playing a Guardian is effortlessly stacking might with 2 button presses, regenerating to full health from the brink of death in an instant, cleaving through foes with his great sword, and otherwise just going through the game in easy mode. Or the Warrior who shrugs off all those attacks that one hit me, passively gaining all the health back without even pressing any buttons, and generally face rolling everything,. Or the Mesmer who stealths, never gets hit, leaves clones and phantasms all over the place, all while dealing crazy damage either directly in zerk gear or with conditions. Or the Necros who just melt everything in a few seconds with a few button presses.

Or…

You get the idea. When I think of how much effort I have to put in to stack might, how I get attunement locked out of a skill I really need, how my cooldowns are ridiculously long, how I am locked into one weapon set (and we only have three), how it seems everything that isn’t a trash mob one or two shots me, how I have to frantically dodge and heal just to stay alive when others just stand there tanking things, sometimes I just think I am just a masochist.

But in the end, I can’t leave my Ele and I still relish all the times I drop a meteor or a dragon tooth on someone or something. It’s a pain to play, you could say I chose unwisely, but it’s all good.

I take a sick pleasure when my friend, who mains a Guardian, tells me that when he hit fractal level 30 he was getting one shot by bosses and it was horrible, and I’m just playing business as usual because, you know what, that’s how I’ve been playing since I was a level 1 scrub. It’s not even a big deal for me. I’ve been running dungeons forever with the mentality that I can’t get hit at all, because if I do I’m dead, so when I got to the higher level areas where difficulty suddenly outramps any classes’ ability to tank, I’m right at home and already kicking kitten and taking names without any disruption. Because that’s how I’ve always played. And then I say with a smug sense of superiority, “Welcome to my world.”

Good post lol.

I think I’m staying away from the Guardian and Warrior for now because, as you stated, playing those classes are easy mode. Easy mode gets boring real quick.

I have 4 level 80’s with full exotics, Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist, and Mesmer. I have one last free character slot left so I’ve decided to level a Necro to 80.

Out of the mages, in pve, it seems to me that the necro, at least in pve, is the strongest solo mage class right now.

I’m only level 22 at the moment, but it seems that, comparing my Elementalist and Mesmer at that time, the Necro is able to defeat enemies quicker than they did at that level.

I’m not much of a pvp’er and I haven’t really spent enough time in WvW because I like to pve so much, so I’m only speaking from a pve point of view.

Pretty much any class other than those 2 (mesmer, ele) kill enemies quicker at that level. Those 2 classes are the most annoying classes to level in the game

Yeah I have to agree. Elementalist, for me at least, was the most challenging to level.

Dynamic level scaling doesn’t work, the rewards for doing open-world content are abysmal, and there’s rarely anything interesting to do anyway.

So instead people just follow their OCD and do whichever content is the most profitable.

Personally, these three were my main draws to this game. For once, to see an MMO which actually feels like a wide-open, living world. At least it was more alive back on release.

Same here. I wanted to play an mmo where you could simply roam around and run into stuff to participate in, which is what GW2 claimed to be. It seems the content is set up for that kind of gameplay but no one is doing the content for the reasons you have made clear.

What does " OCD " stand for ?
