Best level 80 Karma Vendors

I have a lot of Karma and can’t find any Karma vendors with good level 80 Karma armor.

Is the Temple of Balthazar event the only Karma Armor worth getting for level 80 ?
I was told A Karma vendor spawns after the event ends. I haven’t been lucky enough to catch that event so I know nothing about the type of armor the vendor has when he spawns.

Oh yeah, I’m still a rookie.

Staff Elementalist build for pve solo

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I was told pve is easy to solo with staff from this forum earlier this week which brings me to some questions on a staff build and gameplay.

First, as far as game play goes, what attunement is best for enemy mobs for staff ?
Example: l get rushed by more than one Ettin ( however you spell their name )
What would be the best attunement to use with staff ?

Second, what traits should I focus on for a good staff solo pve build ?
Example: I’m looking for survivability and damage with staff.

Thanks for any advice.

First thing I would do is gear up. Run some dungeons/fractals or farm.

Check out the achievements just to see whats out there to do such as jumping puzzles or world bosses.

Leveling an alt but not rushing through the game like I did my first time. Actually talking to NPCs, reading random stuff like tombstones/books, basically just taking in the world of Tyria.

WvW is something I find to be really enjoyable. Roaming around looking for people to fight, taking supply camps and what not. I find small fights to be a lot more enjoyable than running around with a big zerg.

There’s also mini-games like keg brawl or the new crab grabbing game they recently added.

Spvp is something I never really got into but that’s always an option.

Also don’t be afraid to take a break from the game.

Take a break away from the game ! What do you speak of sir !

Thanks for you feedback and reply.

Read a book. Take a walk. Learn another language. Write a poem. Pet a dog. Dance. Ride your bike. Bake a cake. Volunteer somewhere. Fall in love.

There’s lots to do after 80.

I’m not trying to pick a fight, but when people like the OP post topics like this, they shouldn’t be treated like they have no life outside of the game. I have the same question as the OP and I have other hobbies, I’m married and I’m working on my PhD. I have a life and I’m not looking for advice on how to live it. What I am interested in are things that I might do to renew my interest in this specific hobby of mine. So why is the assumption often that we do nothing but play GW2 and need to get away from that?

If I take your advice and go outside for a walk, what will that help the next time I sit down to play GW2 for a couple hours and am looking for a fun way to spend my time in game?

I apologize if this comes off as hostile, that’s not my intent, I’ve just seen this reply several times now to threads like this one and I think it comes across in a really condescending way every time I see it.

I think you take it too personal. Maybe if you can’t find anything to do, there is nothing left to do. Except to move on.

I would have just suggest you to find another game. I just didn’t say it because the GW2 staff probably won’t be happy I make suggestion for people to stop playing their game on their game forum.

I disagree sir or mam. The point of this forum is to ask questions about the game. By me being a new level 80 player, I was unaware of the things suggested by the experienced players. By starting this thread and getting feedback from mature players, I now know there is plenty to do to continue my experience at level 80, and I thank those people for taking the time out to reply to my question.

Thank you for your reply.

RP.

Seriously. I do a lot of PvE with my 80’s but the reason they got to 80 and the reason I want to visit their lives is that they -have- lives. Stories, plotlines, adventures. I’ve RP’d since 7th grade when D&D first came out and it makes my brain happy and creative.

Heck, I went from tongue-tied dread of public speaking to being a career defense attorney thanks to RP and the acting skills it gave me along with the ability to see multiple points of view. I played WoW for 7 years thanks to involved plotlines and fun people to play with (who are still going with amazing stories over there).

Do you have at least one of every race and/or profession?

I have 8 toons at the moment, all level 80 and I am working toward getting them all their ascended accessories.

You can always go for a legendary if you don’t want to level alts.

You can try out spvp and WvW.

Advance your fractals level.

Get all the cultural armor.

Work on completing achievements, slayer, jumping puzzles, explorer, etc.

I have 3 level 80’s ( Guardian, my favorite thus far, Warrior, also very enjoyable, and A Mesmer, fun but not as enjoyable as My Guardian and Warrior for me. ) and working on A Thief. Because I enjoy the Guardian so much, I want to be able to continue on with him which is the reason for this thread.

As Far as other races go, The only race I’m able to connect with is human. Asura are funny and cool to look at but I don’t feel any connection to them. Norn are also cool to look at, especially when draped down in exotic heavy armor, but again, I feel no connection to them.

For me, at this time, I’m pretty sure after the Thief, the professions I have leveled to 80 will be all for me. When the Thief hits 80, I want to do all that is possible with my main, which is the Guardian. I just really dig that profession.

Maybe my description is wrong. When I say Projectile I mean the orb like ball that appears when the scepter is wielded.

Example: The Mesmers scepter shoots out a purple projectile ball and the Guardians scepter shoots out a light blue projectile ball. I don’t see anything coming from the Necromancers scepter when wielded.

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

What profession are you playing, because that can make a huge difference too. I found that with my engineer I did quite well, and with my ranger too. There are professions that are harder to solo with though. And a lot depends on your play style.

And warriors specced for high damage output is definitely easy mode, but not all professions share that advantage.

I’m playing Guardian at the moment. Got on full exotic Cleric’s Draconic, with power precision and condition damage upgrades. I think my main problem is my strategy. The green mist that drops the fire balls is a main problem right now. I can handle certain mobs except for the ones who have a bunch of veterans in them. I usually try and run from them. Sometimes I get away other times I die.

I’ve run across a couple of skill point challenges that have Champions guarding them. Got killed trying to solo those.

Also what professions are good on those high 75- 80 levels for pve soloing. I know you mentioned Warrior so that’s 1. I’m thinking Guardian is probably a good choice. How about Necromancer and Ranger ? I know they are good solo professions.

Best weapon for beginner ?

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

As a rookie Elementalist, what is the best weapon or weapons to level up with ? I’ve been using staff, which is great when in a group but doesn’t seem to be that affective when soloing. Any veteran advice would be appreciated.

The answer to this question lies in your build. A weapon by itself isn’t effective; what makes a particular weapon effective (or not) is the build paired with it. Obviously, when you’re leveling, you do not have a final build yet, so you will not be fighting up to your potential. That is why soloing to 80 is so easy; any weapon works, so the game’s solo content is incredibly simple in order to be balanced.

I recommend visiting sPvP, design and try out different builds, and choose a weapon that you believe complements each build. Alternatively, design a build, then cycle through the weapons to find one that works best with the build. As a new player, you will probably struggle to find all of the nuances of your chosen build, and you will almost certainly want to to tweak it later based on which game content you prefer, but you will at least then have a starting point. Then return to PvE, choose the weapon you think works best, and start leveling up with your new build to teach yourself as you level.

Thanks for the reply.

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I would like to change the color of my mesmer skills, could add this to the gem store, Arena net does not know how to earn money = p

The only problem is it could make it unfair for sPvP and/or WvW players. Since every class has a different color for skills (Blue is Guardian, Purple is Mesmer, Green is Ranger, Orange is Warrior, etc) it makes it easier to identify which class is which. Changing that would make it unfair in sPvP or WvW because you could “fake” your class. People do it all the time with transmuting the starting armor.

I’m still enjoying pve so I’m not too familiar with wvw and spvp, but I could have sworn that the color of an enemies name is a different color than an allies name, which would keep confusion down and give players a basic idea of what and what not to attack.

Again, this is from a perspective of a player who hasn’t had much experience in wvw and spvp, so don’t take this comment as an attack.

I think he means visually telling the enemy players class so he can counter their attacks and set up an offensive plan.

Generally in wvwvw and pvp, once you are able to identify a persons class you are able to determine a couple scenarios that person is playing. From there, you are able to set up a defensive system and an offensive plan to shut that person down.

Example:
If I am able to identify a person to be a thief, as a ranger I know I need to plan for close quarter combat, so I would be switching to my Great Sword, and If i had time drop a skill for a trap. From there I can work on shutting him down and try to push the theif back to where I can switch to my bow and widdle him away till hes dead.

Ahhh okay, makes sense.

solo pve staff build ?

in Elementalist

Posted by: GuildWarsPlayer.5608

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

The important thing to keep in mind about staff is that it’s designed around the use of Combo Fields and Combo Finishers.

You have a field in each attunement, and a Blast and Projectile finisher in Earth. You’ll be spending most of your time swapping in and out of Earth to set up your combos.

For traits, I recommend getting Elemental Attunement and Blasting Staff ASAP. The extra buffs and bigger fields will make leveling a lot easier. The rest of your points can be spent wherever you like. I take Quick Glyphs in Air and 20% longer bleeds in Earth. I gear for Power and Condition Damage (Carrion gear), but that’s really up to you. Some people like more crits and crit damage for better Meteor Showers.

The most helpful thing is to learn what all the finishers do, and get used to frequently swapping back to Earth to set up Blast finishers or to toss Projectile finishers into your fields.

Earth 1 is a Strong Finisher, so it’ll 100% proc off of whatever field you toss it through.

For example:

Earth Attunement -> Eruption -> Fire Attunement – Lava Font (Finishes with AoE Might)… Cast some stuff….Lava Font -> Earth Attunement -> Shockwave (finishes for extra burning) -> Stoning (finishes for extra burning)

Leveling to 80 the first time was fairly enjoyable. But having since completed map exploration on that character, leveling alts has been tedious. Once you reach 30, it becomes a grind.

That’s true. I’m not suggesting trying to max out every character if you have 5 or more. I’m thinking more on the terms of leveling a character to 80, experiencing that character to the fullest and deciding if you want to go further with that character.

One thing I’ve learned the hard way is, you won’t know which profession you will enjoy the most unless you experience more than one.

It seems after level 80 you kind are just playing the game, which is a great game in my opinion, and there’s nothing really left to discover about your character.

The experience of unlocking the character and learning how to play the character affectively has now become something I enjoy. with that said, instead of having one character I now have 3 level 80’s and have my eye on a 4th lol.

Also, I’ve been told that the Thief profession is extremely fun to play. With this said would any veteran thieves care to share their feelings and experiences ?

What you need to master while you’re at low level is shadow step and positioning. Shadow step, when mastered early on, will give you a better experience in playing a Thief. Positioning is important since many skills and traits favors flanking your target. Also it is important to know the range of each weapon type because this will allow you to position better without risking getting hit. Sometimes a simple back step outside the swing radius will save you from taking a big hit. The reason this is important is so you’re always within melee range of your enemy, but outside their swing radius.

Once you master these two basic fundamentals in survival, you can start practicing your stealth timing. The reason why shadow step and positioning is more important than Stealth is because stealth had become unreliable in PvE due to many changes on its functionality in the last consecutive patches.

My suggestion in weapon choice is either Sword/Dagger or Dagger/Dagger to start at low level. As you level up, you might want to switch the weapon set to compliment your play style. The reason I am suggesting these weapon sets is to give you the ability to perfect your shadow steps and positioning. If you start with a ranged weapon like Pistol or Shortbow, you’ll have a tougher time leveling up later on since you have not learn the basics in survival.

Other than that, may your experience be better than mine.

Also, have any of you soloed to 80 and achieved 100% map completion in pve ?

Thanks.

I have played all professions (see my sig) solo, but I only have 100% map completion with my Thief. A lot of places, my Thief can just slip by where my alts will have to fight their way through. So yes, it’s an easy map completion for my Thief.

Well with this said, It’s A go. I’ll be back with a lot of questions after I hit 80 with my Mesmer.

Once again, thanks for all the replies.

I have a general rule I follow when making new characters which is, don’t make a new character until the character you’re currently playing is at level 80. With this said, the Mesmer I’m currently leveling is at 70 and when he hits 80 I was thinking about making a Thief.

Reason for this interest in making a Thief is, I don’t have a medium armor profession. I have a level 80 Guardian and Warrior and soon to be Mesmer. So all of the Armor professions are covered except for the medium armor profession.

Also, I’ve been told that the Thief profession is extremely fun to play. With this said would any veteran thieves care to share their feelings and experiences ?
