Melee professions just more exciting

Hmm, not sure if I agree.

Personally I love my warrior too, but I have a Mesmer at 80 I also love. I got bored of Guardian fast though. You can melee with a Mesmer too btw, Sword/Focus is one of the best weapon sets for Mesmer, and in my opinion is much more fun than Warrior.

My Ele was pretty fun too, but got bored after awhile, and I am now levelling a ranger and am loving the bows!

So…. I don’t really agree. Melee and Range are both really fun in their own ways. Glad to hear that you know what you like though!

Got Bored with the Guardian ! Omg ! I loveeeeeeee the Guardian lol.

Thanks for the replies.

Is it me or are the melee classes just more fun to play in Gw2 ? I’ve tried out all the professions except Engineer and the only 2 I have leveled to 80 and stuck with are Guardian and Warrior.

Something about the melee gameplay in Gw2 just never loses me. I leveled A Mesmer to 56 and just lost interest. Don’t get me wrong, Mesmer is a good profession when played correct but when it comes to a decision, I find the Melee classes more exciting.

Best Heal for Warriors

If you’re still at low/mid levels you may actually find it’s quite a good heal, and at 80 I still sometimes use it in PvE if I have ranged attacks I can fall back to when the heal is too weak. Otherwise I’ll use adrenaline surge exclusively.

I just hit 80 and pve is my thing so thanks for this reply. Thanks for ALL of the replies actually.

Staff and Great Sword ?

Posted by: GuildWarsPlayer.5608

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

Do any of you run staff and great sword at the same time ? I’m thinking about pulling my Mesmer out of retirement since my Warrior and Guardian are both 80 now, and getting him up there. Also I can get that last faction flag.

Since the orb of the staff bounces around between enemies I was thinking I could use that instead of duel swords for when enemies mob me or get close, and use the great sword for range.

I think people fall towards Warrior and Guardian because the dynamics of those classes are really fun to play.

The Mage classes just don’t do it for me like the melee classes in gw2 and because this is an mmo which requires a large amount of grind and leveling, people are going to go with the best designed classes, which, in a lot of players opinions are Warrior and Guardian.

Really, mesmer is played that infrequently? I’ve found them to be my favorite class so far with basically unlimited dodges, high dps and pets to distract mobs for you.

I mean yeah I wish you could have a choice between like fire and butterflies or something, but I’m not really worried about how any of my stuff looks so I really don’t care much about it.

I think a lot of people try Mesmers out but don’t stick with them. I myself am guilty of this lol.

anybody like to level alts while on Main?

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I can’t do it. I was driving myself crazy when I attempted to level multiple characters.

For me it’s one character at a time. Max that character out meaning, get the highest stats with the build you are running, complete the map at 100%, definitely hit 80 and unlock all the abilities, and last but not least, complete the personal story.

I haven’t accomplished this yet because, yes, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LEVEL MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER AT THE TIME !

To curve this behavior of leveling more than one character at a time I deleted every character that was beneath 80 leaving me with two characters, those characters being Warrior and Guardian.

I WILL NOT CREATE ANOTHER CHARACTER until those two are maxed out which doesn’t seem is going to happen any time soon.

Since I’ve taken on the " One character at a time " method, my game play has been much more enjoyable and less stressful.

Combat mode ?

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I’ve tried it. It’s a lot more useful for some professions and some weapons than others, example Thief with shortbow.

My main problem with it you have to keep turning it on and off. Every time you want to talk in chat or click on an icon on the UI, such as when you complete an event and you get a gold, you have to turn it off. (Not the same as exiting the program) Then you have to turn it back on again. When I use it I have the on/off tied to a key, but it’s still clunky.

Other than that it makes combat fast and intuitive, especially for AOE spells.

Warrior and Guardian are the only 2 professions I play and will continue to play until they are both maxed out, assuming that maxing a character out is possible.

Edit: Oh you said away from your Warrior. Anddddd Ranger and Engineer are the two choices ? Not sure, I haven’t played either.

I made a thread exactly like this one not too long ago and yes, I agree. After playing GW2 it is impossible for me to start another mmo.

I too dipped off into Tera for about a half of a day and once I found out your class was bond to 1 weapon and one weapon only, that pretty much did it for me and Tera. Also, for full access to Tera you will have to upgrade to some type of subscription unlike GW2.

I still have yet to come across an mmo that is buy to play with the type of quality GW2 offers.

What is the best way not to get hacked ? And, what are some of the methods hackers use to hack accounts ?

The reason for this question is I came across a thread where a player accused ANET of taking his characters valuables, leaving him with nothing. Of course we all know ANET didn’t do that which only left the possibility of him/her being hacked.

Have any of you been hacked ? and if you were, what actions did you take to make sure it never happened again ?

I like the way Guid Wars 2 allows you to not have to depend on people to advance in the game.

I can’t tell you how I simply hated relying on a healer or healers in Dc Universe to complete and instance. Relying on other players to survive ALWAYS sparked an argument of some sort, which would result in people quitting in the middle of game play making it impossible to finish the mission.

Guild Wars 2 is still my number 1 mmo as of right now. I simply haven’t run into anything that interest me like this game.

A friend of mine has been telling me that I need to try out Tera online and how it’s so much better than Guild Wars 2 so I caved in and gave it a shot…..I lasted about half a day.

Now I’m not putting Tera online down by any means. The combat system is very impressive and the graphics are good. However, this is also true in Guild Wars 2.

I guess because I’m used to certain features in an mmo like BEING ABLE TO SWITCH WEAPONS and USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF WEAPONS, when I found out this couldn’t be done and you are subjected to only 1 weapon while playing Tera, needless to say, I uninstalled the game.

Also, Guild Wars 2 is the only mmo I’ve run across where you buy to play instead of free to play, which we all know, isn’t really free to play.

I think when playing mmo’s, once you’ve found one you really like and have eased into, its best to stay with that brand and for me, when it comes to mmo’s, Guild Wars 2 is the franchise I will stick with as long as I’m allowed to play it.

Yep extremely easily, I did it. It was my first character I got to 80 (or even below 20 xD) and it’s still my only level 80 character, still using only staff (I tried the other weapons and tried my best to like them, but they’re just not for me and I feel just clumsy and awkward using them).

Cool. Out of the Mages this profession seems to be the only one that interest me at the moment.

I see a lot of Elementalist with staffs so I thought that would be the weapon of choice since they switch attunements instead of weapons during battle.

PvE does not equal dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GuildWarsPlayer.5608

GuildWarsPlayer.5608

I’m of two minds on the grouping debate.

In theory, I like the idea that people can progress solo. I think it’s not a bad thing for a game to strive for.

But then there’s the business end of things, and I’ve found many people who solo and run out of things to do end up leaving for other games, where people in good guilds tend to stay in the game longer.

I’m almost out of “things to do”, but I still have things I want to do. The thing is, this game without my guild would be much harder to stay with, as many hours as I play a week.

The guild makes me stay in the game. Forcing people to play together means it encourages people to join a guild of like minded players, which can increase the games stickiness, for lack of a better word.

If you play with a guild of people you like, you might be more tempted to stay and do more than if you just do solo content.

So yeah, there’s definitely positive points in both points of view.

I think the idea of being forced to group with people is what turns people away from certain games.

When you run out of things to do then if you decide to join a guild you have that option.

If you’re forced to join a guild in order to progress and that’s not your thing and you then decide to move on, I feel that’s bad business.

I have to agree with the OP on this one. The reason I came to GW2 was I was told that you can solo and still level up if you choose. The Idea of not having to depend on others is a great idea and will bring in and keep players.

The reason I was going to wipe my hands of playing mmo’s period was do to the experiences I had on DC Universe. You pretty much had to group with people to advance and that community was cut throat and full of players who liked being jerks.

I can’t tell you how many times people would kick one another from certain runs or get into petty arguments over game play which would devastate entire leagues.

Yes this is an mmo and yes people play together which is understood, but forcing people to play with one another to make progress is a big mistake. Sometimes people want to do their own thing and should have that choice.

I too have leveled different professions to at least 35 or higher and out of those the Guardian is the only one I didn’t delete, not that the other professions are bad professions, just that I am now and will always stick with leveling and maxing out one character at a time, if that’s even possible.

Out of all the professions I enjoy the Guardian the most. If I ever max him out and still playing Guild Wars I will go with the Warrior.

If there is always something new to go for then the Guardian will be my one and only character.

I will have to agree that The Secret World is about the only thing I can think of that has the buy once and play forever system that doesn’t ostracize you for nothing buying into their cash shop. They seem to be doing ok with their cash shop and haven’t made any serious dependence on it.

The other f2p games with cash shops now like Aion and the countless ones usually put a heavy emphasis on the cash shop. Not forcing you into it, but the game feels very barren without using the items they provide. Aion does seem to mostly do costumes though and the mini pets with bag space and emotes from what I recall. Some of the other Eastern MMOs are usually the worse culprits of f2p.

SWTOR seems to be middle of the road, but to be honest the limitations they apply on your account is a little ridiculous to me. Especially as someone who was a paying subscriber up to that point. I can now not even access half of my quick bars. >.< Nevermind all the races, etc. I have no idea if they changed this from last year, but it just totally ruined any chance of me ever playing it again.

Quality can be hard to find when ‘free’ gets thrown into the picture. I have to agree that at least GW2’s paywall seems to help them quite a bit in keeping it so though. Same went for GW1.

Yeah, with DCUO online they are free to play but when it come’s to advancing at a certain level they made it where you would eventually have to purchase certain items and upgrades to get the full experience of the game.

There aren’t many “B2P” mmos out there, was just never a business model that most devs used.
As far as F2P games, I would check out SWTOR, DCUO and aion, which is a good deal fun for awhile.

Secret world is the only other mmos that I can think of that is currently B2P. That is like GW2 in the sense that it had potential, but just didn’t work out.

DCUO was the only other mmo I ever played until I ran across Guild Wars 2. Haven’t been back since.
