So things for buying the expansion that those that don’t buy it don’t get? I am not seeing the problem here ……
The problem is that these things were available in the core game… It’s not something new that they don’t have acces to but something they once had got removed.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
They are all still available if you have BL tickets though? Just go to a BL weapons specialist and look at the other tabs.

I can’t remember where I read this, I think from the books. Shadowstepping is going into the realms of shadows and move physically to point B. In reality this seems instantly but the thief is still walking to point B.
Well if this is the case then things that aren’t in the shadow realm shouldn’t hit us. Also, I’m not sure that makes complete sense anyways seeing as how you can shadow step over terrain that you could normally not walk through/on.
Again, I’m not sure where I had that info, but the GW1 description still counts. Shadowstep is in no way a teleport. It only functions as one in most cases. Teleport in GW2 got nerfed but it used to bypass a lot of things in GW1 like necrotic transversal or the ele’s air elite skill. This however does raise the question: Why is blink and other teleports (non-shadowsteps) getting hurt by rings or barriers?
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
No point in making this thread, DH players don’t know, they just don’t want their class nerfed.
Well I play revenant and scrapper and have to say the dragonhunter is easy to deal with: it’s predictable what they’ll do so just save your dodges/stun breaks and avoid their true shot. It’s rather easy, really.
And this is exactly why I always run hybrid builds. Always surprise your opponent for that extra edge.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
You should thanks those people, having some really really bad Players on DH will maybe show people that you can kill them hahaha
Highly agree!
I’m tired of stupid thieves talking crap in say chat that I only killed them because I’m using OP DH. And it definately isn’t the thousands of hours I have on guardian, and it’s not the fact a stupid thief decided to 1v1 a guardian.
So you killed them because you’re using guardian* and not DH? So it’s just Guardian OP to thieves? (I’m not saying this, but that’s what you last sentence kind of implies)
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
“Shadowstepping is a mechanic that allows the user to move instantly from one place to another. " is not “clearly stating that it is a teleport”
From GW1: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shadow_step
Same description with the “instant moving” but
Shadow stepping differs from teleportation (with the exception of player skills that cause teleportation) in these important ways:
You always drop bundles when you shadow step.
You cannot shadow step to a target unless you could walk to the target without leaving compass range. For example, you cannot shadow step past closed gates.
When the target is outside compass range or in a location inaccessible to the player, the user will shadow step into the closest obstruction (in the target’s direction) instead of to the actual location.
I can’t remember where I read this, I think from the books. Shadowstepping is going into the realms of shadows and move physically to point B. In reality this seems instantly but the thief is still walking to point B.

A dev did respond saying the ini consumption on physical skills was a bug somewhere on the forum after the POI. Probably copy pasted the coding for imparing daggers to impaling lotus as well (@OreoWolf)
Just keep reporting in game whenever you see a bug.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Agreed. Been testing S/P-Staff with impacting disruption in PvP. Impacting disruption is average. I still prefer S/P-SB cause staff just feels clunky imo. It’s evade makes a follow up attack harder (not impossible obviously, but harder nonetheless). It’s also too ini-consuming when combined with S/P so I prefer using SB. Might have it’s uses in other setups but I don’t want to drop S/P.

Group puzzles are fun to execute, that’s why a lot of people like playing guild challenges. This doesn’t “ruin” the aspect for me but actually makes it more appealing.
If you want to learn the things on your own however, you’re better off finding a team of friends/guildies/likeminded people.

Time frame for Xtra Char slot preordering
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Gwalchgwn.1659
If you already got a code, you “pre-purchased”. “Pre-ordering” means reserving a spot when the game comes out so you can be amongst the first to get it.
Terminology is important here because pre-ordering means you won’t be getting any of the bonus gifts while pre-purchase does.
In your case right now, post above me is correct.

S/P utilizes a bait tactic. You fake your pistolwhip and cancel it prior to the stun occuring. You bait their dodges and punish them with some AA. Stun them in key moments or when they run out of dodges. One way to make the bait easier is to jump right after using PW. This will delay the first hit slightly and sometimes you don’t even have to cancel it cause if they roll “right” you’d hit them in the window after a dodge. It’s not the optimal build out there, but far from useless. It’s not a skilless setup as some say cause once you play against more experienced players, just smashing PW won’t save you.
When combining with a shadowstep, always walk away from the target, this will put him in the stunzone after shadowstep (even if it’s just 1 step)
Bound+black powder won’t “save” S/P because S/P isn’t a stealth build. Black powder is more an area control in melee duels but I rarely use it except for finishing.
It won’t save it but it’ll definitely help. Sword’s stealth attack dazes from behind so if the enemy is trying to hit you, like they will most likely do, you can get behind them and interrupt. You could also use sword 2’s return while in stealth or channel the new heal. The only thing you’ll not be doing is pistol whip.
Oh it’ll definitely help. But OP seemed to think that S/P was useless and that even bound/blackpowder won’t save it. I was pointing out that S/P was (won’t be anymore) a low stealth build. You didn’t build for stealthing a lot. And I think a good S/P build post-expansion will still hold up these principles because it’s way of playing differs greatly from S/D or D/P.
Personally I’m still not sure which dodge I’ll be taking with my S/P. I can think of ways to use all 3 of them competitively.

Anyone know how long the follow up skills stay? If it stays active ‘til the elite skill runs out (40s), you could use the first two attacks of the elite skill somewhere during a fight and keep it’s last blow ’til someone downs:
# 5 + steal and finish said downed person even before a full team revive can get him up.
(Ib4 complaints, I actually like this idea. Gives the thief an extra role in PvP during group fights and makes him a priority target. Make sure you are ranged will force them to forsake the group fight on point which also adds to your advantage.)

Impacting Disruption trait is in the same category with Escapist’s Absolution.
While S/P offers interruptions along with Sleigh of Hand, I can’t seem do push away the skepticism that we will be kittened without Escapists Absolution.
I need more arguments in favor of Impacting Disruption and why a condi cleanse trait is not that important in WvW.
In case you’re using S/P, you most probably won’t be running shadow arts for condi removal due to lack of stealthing. So not running escapist’s absolution will put you in the same situation as pre-expansion builds. In that perspective, if you’re able to pull S/P off pre-expansion, you could consider taking up Impacting Disruption.

Once expansion is out, there’ll be a lock on the thief class. If you activate the thief, you won’t be able to play any other characters ‘til next expansion, if you don’t you won’t be able to play the thief ’til next expansion.
Every time you attempt steal, there’s a small chance you actually steal items and money from the opponent. There’s also a fail-RNG which will deal damage and confusion to you. Economy will collapse and the richest players in the game will be thieves.
To compensate this OP form, damage will be lowered even more but steal range will be increased to 6000
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Pretty sure the new Thief elite spec will just be counter-counter-stealth. And thieves will be OP again. /S

Open world is their focus.
Spamming auto attack, and getting rewards so everyone is a winner and they can also show off their sparkly new dresses to everyone in the zerg. Its a win win for casuals, which is the overwhelming majority in this game.On the other hand the only teamcontent are dungeons. Open World is singleplayer content.
You’re forgetting Fractals.
And guild missions and world bosses.
Thing is, my friends and I like playing things with 5-15 people. We don’t want an entire zerg to run with us doing something. Open world missions are always overwhelmed with people. I understand anet ideology is for you to connect with others, but you’re not connecting with other players at all right now. You’re just a mob.
GW1 had 18 dungeons, normal and hard mode. 2 elite dungeons. Also every mission and zone on hard mode equated a dungeon. Our guild would do nothing but dungeons (which didn’t reward a lot of money at all, you just hoped for good drops but mostly you’re doing it for fun).

The amount of people here who thinks “free” actually means “free” is overwhelming. There’s never such thing as free. Someone is always paying for it somewhere in time.
If a player is so hesitant to purchase an expansion with so much info made available to them, and would prefer to wait until they see reviews first, would you really consider them loyal?
If, in the end, the player actually ends up purchasing the product (and thereby financially supporting the company), then…yes?
Anyone who makes a repeat purchase from a company is showing customer loyalty.
That’s not what I’m saying. What you’re calling loyal is similar to someone who supports a sports team only when it’s performing well.
but that’s the thing, they don’t perform well, they perform overwhelmingly bad.
it’s as if you pay €50,- for a team that loses every single time, i am a loyal player but i know when to stop paying and to start showing concern.Did Anet release as much information about Factions and Nightfall as they have for HoT? I seem to recall much less and yet people here complaining about HoT are praising GW1 releases. The primary complaint from people right now is the lack of information followed by price. The price being fairly similar to what was charged for the GW releases.
Factions and nightfall aren’t expansions. They were stand-alones that could be connected to your existing account. HoT is an expansion, which can only be compared with Eye of the North.

“Our elite Spec better be fire.”
No, our core specs better get buffed. If only our elite spec is worth competing with all the other elite specs, people who don’t buy the expansions would be screwed. The expansion was suppose to give “more options” and not “stronger options” which would ruin pvp balance.

Pretty much this. While I do agree that prepurchase should give something more to people than those waiting ’til after release, the extra character slot should be for all players who bought the core game separately.
I’m a supporter since GW1 prophecies and have bought every single one. I’ve only prepurchased GW2 in that whole list. Does this make me unloyal?

Revenant topicNothing really counters thief as hard as a thief counters mesmer. I think revenant (shiro) has the possibility to be the anti-thief spec. Sword/sword or sword/axe has some pretty good potential along with the shiro utilities.

$50 = expansion + core for new / expansion + 1 char slot for vets.
Not exactly
$50 = Expansion + core for new players
$50 = Expansion + 1 character slot for vets who prepurchase
$50 = Expansion for vets who don’t.
The extra character slot (which came afterwards) was a reward for vets’ loyalty who buy the expansion. Why exactly don’t vets get that compensation if they do not prepurchase? If it’s because of the price drop if you wait, you’ll still need to wait a year for the price to drop with $10.
Personally I’ll probably buy the prepurchase 1 or maybe 2 days before the release for this reason. I want to know what I’m buying and read up on reviews/recommendations before throwing my money blindly.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I don’t get why the extra char slot is for prepurchase only though. Vets who buy the expansion should get a discount, regardless of it being prepurchase or not. I get the philosophy behind it (getting more prepurchases) but it’s still not fair really.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
no offense, but i will never understand why people roll charr thief…. every time i end up in urban fractal and my thief turns into charr, i feel like landwhale while using dd
Because charr assassins were feared by Ascalonians. They could stalk through Ascalon city without ever being detected and when you’re alone, suddenly a beast twice your height would pounce you (Read “Ghosts of Ascalon”).
Been a charr thief since release, made a ton of skins but this is my current one.

you can try run d/d + s/p, cause if you start the attack with a little backstab xD
that’s what i run, usually start off with s/p pistol whip then using 5 and switch to d/d and leap for a final backstab, rekts everyone. I’m working on a video , but i’m too kitten lazy to edit and stuff Q.Q
I ran with sigil of hydromancy on D/D, instead of using BP I’d switch set which chills my enemy and c&d them for a backstab. But this was from the meta in january. The double melee set isn’t really working for me atm so I stopped using it for now.

all this complains (there are currently 2 threads in the revenant section, 2 in the thief section, 1 in the necromancer section) for 1 boon removal? As I said: nothing. I’t like you are agreeing with me and you disagree with all the thiefs complaining here.
They’re asking for way more than that. Basically complaining that Jade Winds is a better BV.
I am agreeing with comparing JW with BV is ridiculous. But the complaints about BV needing a buff precedes JW reveal. The only reason why BV is used so much in pvp, is because the other 2 elites are even worse for PvP. Some thieves (me included) would much rather have a fourth utility slot instead of bringing along an elite skill.
And if adding a boon removal is “nothing”, then isn’t that perfect? It’s not making BV overpowered but it is adding something to be worth slotting.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]

1) 2s stun: I didn’t say no one asked for it, I said a handful. A portion of the community.
2) Did I make those suggestions? You suggested those OP things. Adding 1 boon removal for example isn’t all that powerful. One of the suggestions on the forum was to add some condi, but there’s a fine line between too strong and meaningless there.
And from an earlier comment (not sure if it’s in this topic): No thief is asking for a copy of Jade Wind

^This guy actually thinks traiting into venoms is worth it outside of a coordinated WvW group?
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Nope, I know it currently doesn’t stack.
People want 2s of stun (so 2 non stacking hits with 2s of stun). I think it would be OP on a thief, with that peak damage and stealth.BV is 1s stun because it basically cannot be avoided, and allows the thief to burst you.
JW is actually pretty easy to avoid and Revenant can’t burst because of its high energy cost (and Revenant does pretty low damage already). You should read better. Only a handful people are suggesting a buff that makes BV stack or a longer stun duration. A lot of other people are just asking for a buff. Any buff.
Like? Aoe?
So instant, aoe, maybe ranged, and 2 hits? Sure, lol. Not OP at all.
How to stun an entire group: part 1.And however people asked for a 2s stun (even in Thief forum)

Who in their right mind honestly thinks Basilisk Venom is OP?
I don’t think it’s OP. I think it would be OP with double stun.
You seem to be thinking that the only buff Basilisk can theoretically get, is to have stacking stuns.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I feel like most people here mistunderstand something. No thief is asking to get a copy of jadewind. They are asking for a slightly reworked one (not just stun duration is a viable option, there are tons of others). Thief’s B venom used to be a very good elite skill but got nerfed only 1 patch after the release of GW2. Right now it’s not worth being called an elite skill. You can put it amongst the utilities and no one would think twice about it being in a wrong place.
they are asking for a change in BV because JW is “better”. Not only it’s not better (we can agree it’s more high risk, high reward, but not better), but a 2s BV would be completely overpowered on thief.
Like I just said, longer stun duration isn’t the only way to buff the skill. Add extra condition, add some damage. Maybe even add some boon buff or whatever. Thieves have been asking for a BV buff since they nerfed it to it’s last form (before it had 2 stacks). No one notices it cause it’s just on the thieves forum. With reveal of jade winds, it’s just being whined about on 2 forums which is why it’s more noticeable.

I’m going just ignore all the trolls above who thinks Bvenom shouldn’t get any buffs.
BV should perhaps get a nice stack of poison applied. Would 10 stacks of poison be too much
As we already have a poison venom, how about adding 5 stacks of vulnerability, per application, to BV instead?
Skale Venom already does vulnerability.
What about a few stacks of Burning? :p
I like this idea, sounds like cement burn which would fit the idea of being turned into stone should also kittening hurt as hell. (pun not intended). Shouldn’t be too much to make B venom overpowered, but enough to warant it to be an elite skill.
The other 2 elites should be rebalanced as well. TG isn’t really worth it outside of pve and dagger storm is way too situational, mostly just for WvW.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
The games free to play, you don’t pay a Sub fee each month like you do with FFXIV or WoW.
People should stop comparing GW2 with those games, GW2 should be comparedwith GW1. The full prices on GW1 games were only for stand-alone games while the expansion (eye of the north) was a lot cheaper whilst still giving almost a full game.
Right now, it’s current pricing should give us almost the same as a stand alone should. This is why so many people aren’t prepurchasing yet. You don’t have enough info if the expansion is worth it’s price. Might be even better to just wait it out ’til the price drops.
