has anyone tried to pull some 1 off thier keep with scorpions wire yet xDDD???
Yes, nothing special compared to the 900m wire though, you just don’t have to run through the fire to get them.

Thieves dont kill other thieves ingame. We give eachother a friendly nod and then go about our business of destroying the 7 other professions.
Too bad I’m, what the anime Naruto calls, a hunter-nin … I target thieves to protect my personal team.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I love our dance over any other race any time
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Same fun can be done with a thief … so awesome
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I’ll stop complaining when you tell me how to beat the cheeze perma stealth builds.
THey dont do big burst, but you can only hit them 1 second out of 10 while they beat the life out of you
Learn their movements, and hit them even when they are cloaked. Just like you would do when fighting shadow skelks. PbAoE’s work too, and whatever you do, don’t stand still
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
The thief is basically just DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE, and this is reflected by the fact that the thief has basically no utility at all in a group ( both PvE and PvP) aside venom share ( altough we have nice sinergy with AoE combo fields, but this only thanks to the shortbow, the only, REAL thief weapon).
Utilities: Shadow refuge, Smokescreen and (for a charr) battle roar
My guildteam likes having me in the team during dungeons rly … A thief can be rolled supportively if done right, without losing a lot of dmg. Though it requires a lot more attention to what your teammates are doing (cause my setup is more about protecting my team from dying, or reviving them without dying myself)
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Completed it 4 times (3 times for friends, once for my own)
First run: 2 hours long of frustration!
Second to fourth run: 2 attempts
Gotta say, the first time, I was really happy I finished it. Had a talk with the other 3 who got there after me. Probably the best challenge I’ve had in a while. Would love more puzzles like this.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
If I see a mesmer going stealth, I always ignore the first few mesmers that show up. They are almost always clones/phantasms… In WvW I would also know where the mesmer is heading after a few fights. (in a 1v1, not a zergvzerg. I mostly have several bouts with a mesmer before one of us dies. By that time either he kills me because I couldn’t flee, or I kill him because I figured his way of moving around. PS: I’m a thief)
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I hear a lot about how Mesmer is so OP in PvP, and lots of “ermahgerd, nerf demz!1011!1!!one!” from other professions
You should try reading the thief forums lol. I try to find rageposts on every forum just so I don’t feel like everyone is targeting the thief. But compared to the thief forums, approximately no one complains here … :P
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Oh, are are you guys moving onto Steal now after your whining about glass cannon thief builds and pistol whip? Just sayin’. I saw a thread about Dagger Storm the other day, i wonder why you guys haven’t moved onto maybe, I don’t know, thieves being able to attack when they see a hostile target.?
How would you guys like it if we went onto your forums and cried for nerfs based on reasons that don’t even make sense.
I honestly don’t get why no one cries on the other forums? I’m getting “kitten” annoyed by mesmers all the time.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
“Psychological warfare, and attacking the enemy’s psyche was another often employed tactics of the hashashins, who would sometimes attempt to draw their opponent to submission than risking to kill it.”
Bleeding them ‘till they cry for their mommy’s seems a good way to draw them to submission
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Again, the thief was supposed to be called “assassin”, which is how the class kind of works right now.
They couldn’t call it assassin because assassins were trained in Shing Jea Monastery (Cantha) in GW1. Anet didn’t want any confusion between these two classes
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Medium armoured thief:
Anonymity hood
whisper’s shoulder pads
Inquest coat
Flame legion gloves
nightmare leggaurds
Flame Legion boots
Me like
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Charr thief, I just made sure my level was at least 5 levels above the recommended level. Never had any troubles except when I reached the level 80 storyline, either I teamed up with a stranger I saw running to the quest star or I tried it with a lot of dying.
I find the difficulty as it is good. The recommended level isn’t right on the Charr storyline imo, but that’s probably because I was a squishy thief and not a bunker warrior.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
If you see a thief coming at you when you’re downed, and goes into stealth. Just note how long it takes for him to finish you off (time = T). If you are a ranger or necro, you can stop him from finishing you if you activate that “you shall not finish me” skill before T..
This also works the other way around, if you are playing pvp and had several encounters with the same necro, note when he uses the fear skill once you activated finish him. This time dodge just before he uses it, and you can finish him off without being feared
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I used to only activate it on a BS combo, but now I tend to activate it even when I don’t/can’t bs the enemy. Buff in my opinion too.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Can’t quote so:
“How did I attack something with my Infiltrator’s Signet?”
Active signets overwrite each other maybe?
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
It’s not a bug, because you didn’t connect the attack, doesn’t change the fact that you “attacked”. Same thing with all the venoms
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I was under the impression that it ADDED 150% damage initially, not that it DID 150% damage. The shock of seeing it drop down 135% initially had me until I found out that 100% of the damage was actually just crummy wording. Seeing that this is actually the case makes more sense, especially since it didn’t really feel like I was getting that much damage in the first place.
Same
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Don’t ask me, ask anet. I thought it was a cool trait ’till I learned that it only gives you a 20% chance of every tier
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Also, a thief shouldn’t able to catch up a prey? You do know that the thief was supposed to be called “assassin” but they couldn’t name it that way because Cantha (where assassins are trained) had been isolated from the world…
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
It resets all skills of one tier (signet, trap, or whatever). So you have a 20% chance of it resetting AS
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
ZLE I got an idea, lets make Moa Morph breakable with a stun breaker!
HEY! that be awesome.
That WOULD be awesome, I hate running around like a darn bird that can’t fight while moving around … serious, moving cancels an attack? Why give it any skills then?
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
So let me get this right: You finally succeeded in having “Assassin’s signet” changed ( though I like it better this way) and now you complain about the next skill?
In the end every single skill of a thief will be changed ..
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I can only think of smoke screen and “venom sharing build”
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I don’t know, I just instant react in using shadow step when I notice my character isn’t moving anymore (which I assume is caused by petrify or immobilize). His backstab fails, and he appears from the shadows. He has a 36second CD on steal, a 2second CD on stealth, 39s CD on assassin’s signet, 45s CD on venom. He flees or I kill him, either way, I won the fight …
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
My encounter with a good ele: Basing on how he played:
1) did not use a bunker build
2) used scepter/dagger
3) had bloodlust sigils
He used ride the lightning as a gap closer to suprise me in the back
Immediately switched to earth and used earthquake (not sure if he used rock barrier after it as I was too busy to get back up, but I did notice him having rock barrier in the rest of the fight)
Didn’t see him use a lot of fire or water skills. Mostly blinding me when I want to attack, and using some kind of knock down or launch when I’m close. And whenever his blinds are on CD, he uses ride the lightning to get close to me, and launch me again
No idea what his utilities were, only remember being on the ground a lot, and since I can only use shadowstep once every 50 seconds, it meant that whoever started the fight first would win the fight. (That’s why I don’t think he’s using a bunker build, I’m not a 100% BS thief, I’ve my own alternative version of it, but a bunker build would definitely beat me every time.)
I think that winning in my fight depended on who suprised who first
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Funniest thing of all is, as a thief myself, I’ve never been instagibbed by another thief?
We are the weakest class ingame when taken by suprise, so it would be logical that a BS thief would kill me in 1 second according to ppl who wants us nerfed. Yet that never happens to me …
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Anonymity hood … Although it’s actually a clipping problem, it’s the coolest hoodie because of the problem
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
In GW1 Eotn it was said that the individual Charr is equal to an individual Norn. They mutually respected each other powers and didn’t conquer each other. If a norn stepped out of line, he’ll be killed and vice versa.
In war however, Charr will win. Charr are united (at least in their 4 respective legions). Norn don’t group together. Charr wins war.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Mesmers and guardians for me mostly.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Level your character to at least 2 levels above recommended level. Oh look, it’s like taking a stroll during a sunny afternoon!
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Haha, wtf? Charr hating? I love the charr. Your point doesn’t rectify why they attacked Orr and Kryta which is what I pointed out. And even without GW1, everyone knows charr love fighting, ever talked to any charr npc in game? Guess not.
Oh well, ppl like you leaving is probably the best thing for this game. The world suddenly brightened up and flowers grew everywhere. Let’ kitten up red iris flowers!
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
^he asked for wvw :P
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Situation 1: Enemy zergs you.
Most traps are useless, they only hit 1 foe (2 if they by coincidence are running exactly next to each other). Using Caltrops would work better in this case. Only ambush would be nice if you are going to stand against them (quantity > quality in a zerg v zerg … quality quantity > quantity but it’s rare to have that)
Situation 2: Small fights
Traps are great. Immobilizing, kd’ing, shadowstepping and/or summoning an extra soldier can change the tide. Let’s say 2v2: Immobilize/kd target 1, gank on target 2.
Situation 3: Lots of chickens near you
Fear these chickens … They are expert disarmers! How often a trap of mine got disarmed at a supply camp because of them … Ragekill all of them!
Personally I don’t use traps in WvW anymore. My utilities are: Signet of shadows, shadowstep, scorpion wire.
In sPvP I use SoS, shadow trap and scorpion wire. Trapping the treb or a shrine so you can stop people from destroying/capping it.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Ezekial@ your post is the d u m b e s t thing i saw in about month.Dieing instantly from Dots?Do you even know how condition removal works? It removes ALL stacks. The worst thing good condition thief can do is waste his resources on a big initial stacking ,which will be removed and what next?I am condition thief and my fights 1v1 are lasting average between 20 sec and 2 min.My bigest number of damage from direct damage is like 1200.It takes about 150 ticks to kill player with normal 15-20kHP and if 150-200 ticks are not enough time to you to remove them,or kill the enemy, then sorry m8….
You are not playing the build the op is talking about.
But he’s still right, any condition removal skill removes all stacks of ONE condition.
Therefor, wait dodge several DB, and remove the bleeding you couldn’t dodge once he stops with DB. End of bleeding, end of thief’s life.
I personally am not fond of the DB spammer (I only do it in pve because they are mindless undead anyway). Last night I fought a DB spammer, he was never able to beat me but he had 3 stealth skills making it almost impossible for me to counter-act (he also used signet of shadows, I didn’t, so it was hard for me to catch up without using initiatives (shortbow) or shadowstep (my condition removal))… so in the end I just let him run.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
A good way to prevent wasting the basilisk venom is to use C&D just before stealing. If the enemy is out of range, the steal will disrupt your C&D without wasting the venom. If the enemy is in range … well happy-slap ‘till your heart’s content.

Auldwolf,
Their original story in GW1 tells differently:
“The feline Charr are a savage fighting race that once dominated the eastern side of the Shiverpeak Mountains. They fought anything they could – including themselves. Eventually the many warbands of the Charr united under a single leader: the Khan-Ur.
In the days before the Gods of Tyria brought the humans to Tyria, the Charr battled with the Forgotten in the Blazeridge Mountains. Long after the Forgotten stopped threatening the Charr, the humans appeared and, with the help of their Gods, pushed the Charr from their southern borders, conquering the land that became known as Ascalon in 100 BE. "
Your story would mean they would only fight back for Ascalon, however
“Their gods gave the Charr the Cauldron of Cataclysm, allowing the Charr to breach the Great Northern Wall and assault the three human kingdoms of Ascalon, Orr, and Kryta.”
They attacked all of mankind. Why? Because man was a race that they haven’t beaten yet. They LOVE fighting and they hate(d) humans. Many years of fighting and being taught to hate humans made many Charr almost instinctively hate humans. (Mind you, humans hated Charr even more. Hate brings more hate and the wheel turns) It’s only when the dragons rose that they had to ally themselves with humans. And it’s only because of this, they are finally learning to know each other and that they actually don’t differ a lot from each other.
So that solves the hating part. The fighting part? Well the good thing about undead (and ghosts) is that they never stay dead
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Khan-Ur was the name given to the Charr commander who could bring all legions together under him. (Actually, it was the name of the only Charr who was able to do it. After he died his sons started fighting over the title and founded the existing legions: Flame, Ash, Iron and Blood.)
These bits of lore are from GW1. So it’s normal you didn’t know them if you are new to the game.
So it’s just inter-group competition really. They never said they can do everything alone, just that their leader would be the almighty Khan-Ur and that the Legionnaires of the other legions were nothing compared to theirs. Just like how a group of friends playing sPvP and saying they are actually the best but they still have to co-operate… (Except that the charr are less friends)
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
… Most of the time I don’t even see people try to get away from S/P thieves until it is too late.
…
15% damage? If that hurts you then you are obviously amazingly reliant upon a single skill to kill for you. …P.S. Forgot to add this. Stop trying to cast Basilisk Venom in combat with 5 people hitting you. It’s not smart. Go into stealth or something.
Agreed. Though I rly liked the petrify … I never rly used the venom for longer then a second. I just use it to follow up with backstab … Which means D venom works good enough for me but I like my current utilities setup
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
The trait that recharges his skills, only has a 20% chance of recharging the venom. Which means only 1 of the 5 fights he’s in, it’ll work.
This means that if you encounter a thief that just starts attacking a friend of yours, attacking him in the back will give you 30 seconds time to beat him.
Counter? Kill him in time
Also, evading a backstab isn’t that hard. Even though he’s stealthed, it’s not hard to know how he’ll position himself. Always have a stunbreaker in case he uses devourer. If he’s using basilisk (petrify) … well then you’ll have to endure his first attacks. But read first paragraph, he’ll only have 20% chance of using it after a last fight. Otherwise he’ll have to wait at least 35 seconds.
Once you can stop one of his attacks. Freeze the thief, fear him, kd him. All ways to counter him from killing you. A thief isn’t op’d. Learn how they fight and counter it.
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Pistolwhip spam.. He probably died 80% of the time, so he cut away those footage…
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
Try combining this with Basilisk Venom
Activate it before stealing, steal (enemy gets stoned), position and backstab
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
We also allow RP in the guild (though right now we don’t have any I think)
A little lore of the guild :
An ancient clan formed before the time of the Guild Wars.
Ainia was born 1014 AE in Orr. Her name is not remembered by many outside the clan. Ainia was no member of a guild but has fought many battles amongst them. Most of the times, defending innocent towns that would’ve been slaughtered. Many owe their lives to her, but none ever knew her name. Ainia’s only motive was that of righteousness, not fame nor vengeance.
Along the way she often has fought side by side with other warriors on the road. Amongst the companions only three stayed with Ainia ‘till her death: Ronahn “the Shield”, Emily “Firecaster” and Leand’r “Hawkeye”. Ainia’s strategic insight has often saved them in situations where others would’ve failed. Like in many stories, a strong bond of friendship was forged during these wars. This is the story of how a clan was forged.
Later this clan formed the guild: Afternoon’s Watch (more to come)
