Start puls+3 pulses+ additional puls for 1 sec (due to Lyssa runes) – Tested it with my team…you can root them for a complete chunning earth. The bomb explodes immediately (at least people get rooted immediately). Whatever you tested is wrong.
With bomb traits you can cover a whole node + Just 20 sec CD on glue bomb.
The patch notes indicate that glue bomb has been fixed to now have the correct radius when using the “increased radius” trait. As far as I know, the immobilize is still 1 second.
But yeah, all those 1v1-specced bomb engineers out there are probably laughing because of the blatantly OP bugfix. /sarcasm
Tested it myself and got at least 4 sec immobilize. Aoe on a 25sec Cd instant cast. Great Job Arenanet Great Job. Maybe thats the big change for making warrior viable in tpvp because now they are maybe able to hit their burst…They did not say, that they fix Warrior traits.
Which crazy idiot thought changing the glue bomb on engi would be a great idea? A full 4 second aoe immobilize? I mean you just have to look at teldo to see the capability of this class and you should know that bomb kit was the last which needed a buff. Engenieers were already pretty good in 1vs1 – Not best but still viable due to their crazy elite.
Please spend your resources on real problems – like warrior and necro traits and not on that kittening kitten.

Glory is no reward – Actually there is no “reward” for playing tpvp currently and after the mai announcement i am still dissapointed that they dont adress this critical factor.
I am also wondering when or if they will address tournment map selection ever.

Pet leash is just rely strong right now, you can leash it from side point to mid, to kill treb on khylo, It’s like having an extra player roaming around on your team. When the ranger engages, all he has to do is swap out pets and he’ll have it right back by his side, this means there is 0 risk to pet leashing.
Pet swap should spawn the new pet at current pet location, not at ranger. This would nerf their ability to be effective on bunkering back point + force the ranger to make weighted decisions on when to leash pet (rather than just all the time). Although it would nerf the ability of the ranger’s 1v1, it would facilitate some pretty crazy plays with global pet micro, which would be very interesting to see in competitive play.
If BM ranger is still too strong on backpoint after this change, they could begin to tone down vigor and after that maybe regen. The problem with ranger is that it has pretty much unlimited access to evades to counter burst, and strong passive regen (and condi clear depending on build) to deal with conditions.
Sorry but you write is completely wrong. At first the pet isn’t a additional player. The KI is not really good and you just cant target another player and beeing 100% sure that your pet is targeting another or just doing some kitten. And this has nothing to do with Player skill.
If the pet would spawn at the opponents location, with full life, this would results in even greater qq threads because you cannot get away from the pet and for example birds can burst you for 12k+ within a second. That would not be a nerd its a buff.
Also even if it would be a nerf it would affect ALL builds. So not a good point to start balancing BM rangers.
Also vigor is necessary for other builds – not good to start balancing here, too. You really have to look what are the traits which make the BM unique and since most of the traits in BM are just bullkitten its the nature magic traitline which has to be addressed. Long regeneration uptime comes from Natures bounty (33% is really long) and either should be reduced or edited as a masters trait. Changing Dwayna runes or Forge runes would affect other classes and should be considered. Altough the utilties are different from other builds…so these are the things def should look into and not pet mechanics. Also a trapper or some strange power build pet can chase you around the map…However these builds are not considered to be “OP”.

There is way to much QQ. I agree that BM is a little bit ahead, BUT that did not happen over night. Actually they are as strong as release of the game. The buffs to F2 skills of the pets were necessary, otherwise no one would use anything apart feline, birds and jaguar. However buffing also toughness and vitality should have been pve only. However nerfing pets or empathic bond is not the solution. Actually they should focus on BM and Nature magic trait line and switch some traits and then everything should be fine. They should not tweak the weapons. Otherwise the same as for the ele will happen. Everyone will just play this 1 kittenty bunker build.
However comparing rangers with ele’s is fail tbh. Ele’ were and still are versatile beasts. The ranger maybe got better in team fights due to drake buffs but its not even close to a prepatch ele…..
If they want to nerf BM they should focus on:
- Signet of the wild -> passive regeneration
- Nature magic -> NB and NP maybe as masters traits
Maybe some other slightly tweaks but that should be already enough in my opinion and also nerfs which do not affect other (more damage focused) builds. However I really would like to see that pet evades (and cannot attack) when ranger is dodging (not skill evading). I mean my pet gets destroyed by the trebuchet all the time…That would be far more effective than health increase for pets.
Nevertheless rangers are not the unbeatable beasts as the forum QQ says. Yes they are strong in 1vs1 but always gets in trouble when two players are against him. He cant contest a point as a bunker ele were able to do because he does not heavy this multiple heal options. Sending a single ranger on far point at the beginning of the match would never be a clever option. And Arenanet designed the class so that the main damage comes from the pet. Back at release alot of rangers were complaining about that fact. Now everyone things they do to much damage…Arenaet however made their decision.

If 4 thieves are not able to kill a single bunker ranger they should be ashamed. And the trap bunker is also less effective than the standard ones in terms of point holding (because traps are not really useful).
A single thief cannot kill this build, though.
I main ranger but my second class is ele. I will wait for the patch to test for myself how gamebreaking this change is.
For now I think they did a little bit too much. Its not the nerf for itself but the buffs for other classes, which worry me. With the changes to thiefs and warriors this might bring ele’s in a difficult position. Ele’s just simply need boons thats how they work and how they were designed (low health pool, lot of boons, strong healing). Considering a Warrior which traited boon hate and takes advantages from the signet buffs, he might be able to do 25-30% more damage on an ele. This could make it necessary to disengage fast. However this might not be possible because also warriors are not that bad when it comes to mobility. Thus crippling the mobility of ele´s wasn’t a clever choice because it hits every single build, with dagger off-hand (which is mainly used due to the mobility advantage).
In the end they not only decreased healing and mobility of the ele class itself but also buffed counter classes. This MIGHT get to a serious problem. However we will see how the meta changes after the patch went live.
In the end I think adjusting the scaling of healing power of ele´s would have been the better way.

The only reason you prefer Duelling in WvW might be that your gear and buff-food compensate your skill. Think about it….
The standardized gear is the advantage of GW2 over other famous MMO’s and give it the chance to become “real” esports. Really, if you beat a person in sPVP you should be able to beat him everywhere else.
Its good to discuss builds. However all points which Battosai brought into the discussion are true. Actually he was one of the first, who brought up the idea of a deffinsive ranger. I watched the entire video and think there were some mistakes. Alot of traits and utilities depend on personal preferences but some combinations were unfortunate choices (for me).
As Battosai said Ranger lacks in teamfight and since staying on closepoint while a midfight is u kitten omehow stupid, it is necessary to bring up some good utilities. Signet of renewal is a very good condition cleans since it removes all conditions from all allies around the pet. The perfect counter for Epidemic as said above. In addition it is a stun and immobilize breaker! So you dont have to waste a trait (on a 90 sec cd) for that. My experience with troll urgent is that it is probably better against ele’s and other non burst classes due to the shorter cd but lacks when you have to fight against two burst classes. Healing spring is far better for node defending. A lot of rangers do not use the leap finishers which enable nearly the same heal as with troll urgent + the vigor trait it is probably the best combo field ingame and it has a way shorter cast time than troll urgent. So interruption should never be a problem.
The only thing I like to disagree is the frost trap. I recognised that untraited traps are somehow unpredictable. If an enemy runs through my untraited frost trap it gets triggerd but chill is not applied to him – This happens after the second tick. That is were I prefer a second stun breaker or Signet of the hunt (Depending on the team combo).

Lighting reflexes sometimes get exchanged Signet of the Hunt when I run with Bird / Jaguar combo instead of Wolf/Jaguar. Also traits which I left empty will be adjusted to that. On axe I use either a second energy sigil or geomancy sigil.
However I rarely run BM in tourneys, despite you see more and more of them. Main reason is trappers still have more group support . Especially on spirit watch it is the only counter for rangers against this block orb capping guardians/ele’s

It’s definitely a Learn-to-make-tactics issue. Even against an engineer it’s easy to cap the orb though. And there is no meta setup. You not mentioned ranger, which is definitely one of the strongest on the map.
BTW: why you need 25 mights stacks to cap the orb? you just split up and run to the nodes and one guy of your team is capping. There is not a huge teamfight so might is not really important.
A complete team comb with 25 stacks of might just kills everything, when they play properly. Rangers are good orb runners but due to the hast nerf they capturing the orb or even defend it becomes much harder. I main ranger and recognised it yesterday several times. A good orb defender just stays at rang, watches the pets and outplays a ranger quite easily. As a said HGH engenieers can do that pretty well. I mean it doesnt matter if guard, ele or ranger captures the orb. In 80% (especially when he gets team support) you cant stop him and one should focus on nodes. I prefer other classes than rangers on this map because orb runner spec doesnt give sufficient team support.
And of course send an ele with already 1 additional block to the first orb + arcane shield and its almost a freecap.
This map is actually very frustrating. At least one HGH engenieer who spamms grenades from one of the colums all day long .Then 2 Eles (preferably with arcane shield) which either roaming or capturing the Orb. Maybe a guard with focus which can also capture the Orb fast and a Thief/Mesmer and here you have your META build for spirit watch. Its like the META build on the other maps and you cant do a kitten actually. They run into the first fight with 25 mightstacks up thanks to eles and guard. If you focus on Orb 3 of these guys will just block your damage away in the right Moment. If you focus on point they also have an advantage due to the combination of good burst and heal.
Its not even funny anymore…And its not a L2 kitten ue. Especially the engenieers are ridicoulus (sorry bro’s but 25 might stacks + the conditions they apply that fast that not even a cantrip ele can remove them [who is best condition remover in game] is way over the top).
As far as I noticed and due to the feedback I got leaving it is taken into account. You see for some people that w/l increases but their rank decreases.
But maybe their are other coincidences.

Semi broke. Leaderboards are better then no leaderboards. Give the. More time to stabilize and expand and they should look healthier. The mix of solo and team is an issue though IMO and needs to be split.
Will at least take 2 months and will be promoted as a “new” big feature of the patch.

I can’t see any ELO. There are people in the Top 100 which have not played for more than a months. There are people with less than 20 games and a w/l ratio lower than 65% in the leaderboards. And the leaderboard is changing drastically. For example Awu was rank 23 when the website went online. Now he is rank 35..30 minutes later.
Sorry but there is really no pattern.

Dont know what your contacts are but look at Battosai, Qzzz, Konrad all these guys running BM (most of the time). Also I am running it on all maps except kylho since it is much stronger in 1vs1 than a trapper.
Dont get me wrong trapper is a strong 1vs1 spec (but beatable) but its not a “bunker” because you don’t stand a chance against two player with equal skill level. After the first evade rotation its almost over.
Edit: Forgot to mention: Purie was a trapper but is on a hiatus.

You simply have no idea of what you are talking about. If you double the cd than they are indeed useless.
The trapper Build is what I call “quite balanced” its not near a “bunker”. Why? Because any serious player just watch were and when you throw your traps and just dodge through them or negate them complete.Also, to be effective you have to run rabid amulet. There is only one situation were this build can be called a “bunker” and that is at the treb. However send another BM ranger or a good ele and the trapper is kittened.
Dont get me wrong your idea is not bad. However this might end up in in a situation were ranger is the next power necro. Also devs are quite lazy. The only change to spirits in the last seven months was increasing their health. And now you expect a complete rework of traps? Dont see this coming, also because trapper are quite rare in TPVP since release of BM bunker spec…
Please have also in mind that other classes like engineer or necro, even thief also allow constant debuffing on a node. So if you cant deal with them increase your condition removal. And if you are not able to counter your own build than you should train a little bit harder.

I like your idea of hiding the chat ;3. Despite I am not a huge fan of condi thief builds I appreciate your work. It seems like you had alot of fun ;-).
Already tried this kind of build with some trait and utility tweaks. It works. However its subpar to other, more common BM builds. Main problem is that SB only applies Bleeding stacks while flanking so the main advantage of this build, the high condition output, fizzle out in dust.Untraited Traps are not worth to be used. Tested it with a couple of friends – Even thiefs can stand in them without feeling too much pressure – I would exchange with the renewal signet for condition removal. This is what this build lacks in (despite healing spring).
This game fooled me ones. You think I am spending one more single dollar? They should make it f2p otherwise the playerbase will get smaller and smaller until it completly dies.
First they have to deliver …afterwards they can ask for my money. Nearly all of my friends left. You always face the same teams and they dont even admit that pvp is nearly dead. And I think I am not the only one. Such an announcement will instantly kill the “pvp scene” (or how this group of players is called).
You have your things mixed up, the unbeatable ranger doesn’t run away in 1v1 and doesn’t heal up and come back like ele does. It stays put and out sustains you with evades and massive regen and perma prot while it’s pet takes huge chunks out of you. It’s a bunker BM spec and it is the strongest duelist/pointholder spec in the game atm.
After all that I must say, no they are not OP, they lack teamfight and mobility, no burst and they can’t carry fights in xvx as an engy can do. It’s a really strong spec, …
Actually this is the truth. However I would say it could be nerfed slight a little bit in exchange to other viable builds. But you don’t need 3 man to kill this build . A mesmer + thief will kill this spec quite easily due to the boon removal.
Rangers are strong duellist. However for teamfights they only provide healing spring :/.

Therefore Arenanet have to steal the time machine from Dr.Who and travel back till 28th of august 2012.

In my opinion the problem is, that say said that their leaderboards are finished and “live” but they just want to wait until ranks stabilising (up to a week). However, now we recognise that the whole announcement was just an advertisement lie. They were not able to finish it in time and they dont know if they can finish it by tomorrow and they are afraid that any new “soon” comment on the forums might lead to a massive (or minor considering the size of the pvp community) kittenstorm.
So they deleted all request or merged them with a lock, thus they vanish by tomorrow. Feels a little bit like GDR.

The data won’t be changed for your character itself, we’re simply recording it to our live website starting today and we’ll need around a week or so to get everything stable on the website, prepare for the traffic load, and ensure the data is updating at the proper intervals. The stability is purely website and database related.
The PvP and achievement point leaderboards will initially show 100 players, and then we’ll expand them to show more once launched to ensure the sites stability one chunk at a time.
When I read this it was clear for me that it will take more time and they just mentioned it in the patch notes to reassure the angry pvp crowd and buy some time. Hey its still Arenanet

During my research how to craft Super weapons I found the above mentioned thread. Could a developer explain why we dont get these coins from PVP chests, when there is obviously the chance to get them from any pve chest. I mean Super weapons are also introduced to pvp and it seems like PVE (and thus low rank pvp’er) have a better opportunity to get these skins like high rank pvp’er (and thus low level pve’er). What’s the reason behind this? I mean this weapons look awesome but we dont even get the chance to obtain them!
I mean the drop rate could be lower but something like this would be nice!
Or do you try to force us to go into pve by all available means? ;/

Rofl this thread is epic. I also have an elementalist as second class and I can tell ya GC Ele is as OP as the bunker. I mean I can easily destroy an entire group when their positioning is bad. During my rotation I do about 15-20k AOE damage.
Now we do abnormal damage, have a panic button and still a better survivability than a thief. Seems legit
NOW = no.
In upcoming patches will Warriors see some changes? = yes.

just want to know why you actually nerfed quickening zephyr trait. Its a mandatory trait for every ranger and in the patch notes you said that all quickness traits will have a longer duration. However the trait did not get a buff.
Is this intended? Since the trait has 50% less speed I think its reasonable to increase duration to 3s.

Edit: What also has to mentioned. Our only ability to “save stomp” an enemy is by using pet swap quickness. I think also here a compensation is necessary like an additional blind on a weapon pair or something like that.

ranger is one of the best classes. i know a rangerplayer who can play an imbalanced build (tanky healy for himself and mates, removing condis, doing damage ) which can beat my ele and all other classes 1v1. i think ranger is balanced on highest levels… people just need to figure out the opstuff (theorycrafting, timing, skill, experience, movement…)
and make it shine….

Don’t let this discuss in this thread. However I said that ranger is probably the best 1on1 class when using BM build but lack in team fights. Condi remove is done with healing skill and maybe the renewal signet (which should be used only in critical cases). Ranger is not able to heal teammates on its own…he just provides the water field(+regeneration). Mobility is good as it is.
And as i said BM is probably a little bit unbalanced but trapper is ok for know. If you fight against a skilled elementalist he will just stay out the traps and you cant stand a change. I did not say rangers are weak but they are not at top of the food chain :-).
Ranger is whether the strongest nor the weakest class. Someone showed a class pyramid in another thread, which pretty much describes the position of a ranger (Rank 3 together with guard and thief).
Trapper build is pretty balanced in my opinion. BM ranger is very powerful in 1vs1 but gets weaker in teamfights since the group support is very limited (except heal skill).
Currently I would use BM ranger just to have my mesmer at team fights, without heaving to fear that close gets backcapped.
With the new builds for engineers I see ranger will maybe get replaced by them because there are also capable to kill a bunker ele but have more group support due to aoe damage.

Dont know why you are complaining about confusion. I know atleast 1 build where you can apply instantly 8+ stacks of confusion and instakill a elementalist (if everything works out).
I think confusion is fine at it is. Its like everytime dont focus one one single spec…And mesmer already do alot of pressure…

You are not unlucky. I earned and crafted about 300 dyes in pvp – summary: 1 Celestial Dye (6g at that point in time). I am currently rank 47, if I compare the time I spend in tournaments compared to my time in pve this yield is ridiculously low.
4 Weeks in PVE: 250g
4-5 months in PVP: 6g + maybe 1 gold from other minor dyes.
So much for equal chances …

we stopped since the patch and not planning on making a comeback unless something worth playing comes out with the nextpatch.
I think that is the mentallity everybody should show. Devs are that selconfident and think everyone will come back when they add the wished features. They dont think there currently behaviour will have any consequences and thus they have plenty of time.
They are to lazy to organise events which might introduce the game to a new playerbase, they are to lazy to organise tournaments and search for sponsors. They are to lazy to post on forums (even on weekends when they are not busy with “work”).

Yeah pvp daily is done in 5 minutes…And it is somehow embarrassing that they needed 2 month to came up with this idea. There were a lot of threads after the implementation of laurels in all pvp forums and they could easily change it within a 2 minute stealth patch.
J.Sharp I want to thank you for what you’ve been doing. Even though there are things that can be done better, I have to say that this game is in a decent state right now.
But I wanted to ask what’s the best way to deliver constructive criticism to you guys? I know the forum is a form of communication and then you guys will join in-game to hear some of the things from players. Although I think there is a bit of a disconnect as far as a common complaint or suggestion from players, and then what you guys view as something needing to be corrected or improved.
Overall things are getting better and I hope you guys add some great things in this upcoming patch. I hope you guys also add at least one different game type to PvP. It’s really something I think would be very beneficial to the game right now.
Cannot agree with this statement. For now PVP is in a horibile situation. (Nearly) all competitive guilds left the game and after the last sotg even Hotm of Desolation is more or less a ghost town (compared to previous months). As a result MMR is not working properly and the motivation of a lot of players was crushed by the statements J.Sharp gave. Also ladder will not come soon (John said “We dont know when its ready. This might be before the patch , during or after it” – Right…they dont know if they can finish this project within 12 days based on the time they already spent (5 months!)) – Same is true for the custom servers.
I feel like they want to do so much right that they start to make it wrong. Best examples are the combined solo+team leaderboard or the spectator mode.
Also alot of people I spoke to were shocked by how the devs were prepared. Karl “The balancer” should not search for skill descriptions in his notes and should not talk the situation of certain classes down. Otherwise I loose the trust that he is able to make the right balancing decisions.
It is also a shame that something like sotg is necessary to get a connection to the devs. 1 or 2 forum posts on various topics per week are not enough in my opinion.
P.S. I like the game and the playstyle. I enjoy it since day 1. However for now I play the same map on and on and it gets real boring. This will not hold me another 5 months (or atleast 1)

I was thinking about yesterdays sotg and especially about their statement that they don’t want to add gems and that they want to keep pvp separated from the pve part of the game. I mean it is not the most important thing they should focus on but I was very frustrated because this was the point (in contrast to ladder, MMR, spectator mode) where the devs did not came up with fresh ideas.
I would agree with the devs when there wouldn’t be stuff which is, due to that decision pve exclusively. Since we have no honor <-> gems converter like it does exist for gold. We dont have any access to Shop items. Also additional character slots is something a player would never acquire if he just plays pvp exclusively. And in my opinion several character slots are also mandatory for pvp but for the moment I am not willing to spend any $ for a game which does not progress (neither in pve nor in pvp). This is also true for bag slots and also server transfers! I hope that the devs realise sooner than later that pve and pvp players do not have the same chances to obtain things in this game. It is somehow ridiculous that players, who jump in a 1 round tournament get the same gear, which wasnt accessible for 90% of the playerbase 3 months ago. On the other hand it is also ridiculous that gear like the twilight armor set needs years of “farming”, while on the other hand you can obtain it relatively easy in pve.
Also the devs should be aware that their players are not stupid. We know that in the last patch the tournament name was just changed from “paid” to “free”…hell even the chests are exactly the same as before the patch. A simple change of the system how you obtain armor will not make your system better. It doesn’t matter if there are 80 or 400 ranks…and also when the chests costs simply 100x more as for now it will not make your system any better. So in the end you cannot rescue your systems by just simple namechanging decision. I hope everybody can see that also for pvp’ers gems, gold or an exchange system is necessary ( I dont want to get rich by playing pvp but it should be enough that you can after 1 month of playing you are able to change your home server or something similar). At least as long as other incentives are introduced to the game.
Regards to motivation: At the moment there is no real motivation. This was already discussed yesterday and pushed by Xeph. And this will also effect your upcoming changes like custom servers. I would not buy a custom server if the game I play do not show progression and motivation at all. I mean players are begging for random map selections for months now and you just ignore them. The same is true with armor variances. There are so many unused armors which you could bound to a special currency you get when you win a tourney. This currency has maybe different steps (copper, silver, gold….) depending on which rank (in the ladder) your opponent has. Or you can do the same with laurels. (if I find other options I will add them here :-))
At the end I would bid the devs to involve players more in your decision. I was kind of shocked when I heard that teams and solo q players will have the same ladder (which makes the whole system useless) – A simple feedback from players would have helped you to see that this is probably a bad idea. In the end its your decisions would you implement but this would also lower the amount of meetings you guys do (at least 1 per day ?!). I already worked in a big firm where they also did alot of meetings, so I know that these CAN be time consuming without getting a real result. Instead a wider analysis of the forums could probably help to find the key features which are wanted and necessary.
