first let me ask you, for what purpose are you making a warrior(or guardian) for? if it’s for WvW, then asura is an ideal race small, less likely to get noticed in the chaos of battle.
if it’s for PvE, i’d say play what class you like more.

for what i read around the forums, be it official or not, the fine rewards will depend on map level, ie slivers or what not from champs in 1-15 maps, hopefully this is the case

I would like to see it happen. I agree the story should reset and as for the armor well it seems like to much work for them to make a convenience to us. So I would say all cultural stuff would be at a loss. Because if you look at it from a new characters point of view it would be at a loss if you decided to make a new character with the race of choice.
Why would it be a loss? Every race has X, Y, and Z armor pieces that are equivalent. If I changed my Charr to an Asura, My Charr T3 helm would become an Asura T3 helm. It’s logically simple, the only issue is the code behind the scenes.
and what of the personal story? just convert too? you make it sound so easy.
New Skill and Traits
We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them. To go along with this, we’ll expand the content and options to earn skill points to help encourage players to experience different challenges and content throughout the world. After rereading that from the blog post, the devs didn’t really say they would be adding new tiers, by my understanding, they would be adding more traits(from the original 12 per trait line) to choose from.

more traits doesn’t necessarily mean a new tier, or more points to distribute, maybe they meant that there would more traits available to choose from
I have 3 rings occupying my space, the best way is to wait for updates, for sure these items will be useful in something in the near future.
3 rings isn’t a lot.. I have about 20+ rings eating away at space. I would have liked if you could salvage them into vials/globs/shards to infuse them.
who knows? maybe with the release of ascended armor/weapons, we’ll have further use for the extra rings
chain skills? they game automatically does that(on certain weapon sets, eg. warrior axe mainhand.)
Chances are, it will be (since they did not remove the npc and looks like have no plans to do so either).
they readded the option to buy fused weapons because of the offchance that there were still unused fused weapon tickets, they same goes for winters day and jade weapons. but it’s unlikely that they will reintroduce the fused weapon tickets with the way the living story is progressing, maybe some time after the living story.
when ascended weapon/armor comes, which is craftable, anet may find a use for them, like salvage for craft mats or something.

I heard about GW2 way back in 2008 from a friend of mine who played GW1.
Crafting can be a good way of earning gold. As long as you gather the resources yourself. Farm world bosses, if you see something you can invest in, invest, do dungeons (theyre not that hard) CoF is fun and very easy, even if its your first time. Basically just play
and put away any gold/silver you have in your bank and dont touch it, and itll mount up
selling the materials would yield the same, if not more money
Mesmers have better escape because of blinks and stealth. A guardian’s area denial skills are only effective in a choke point
let’s put it this way, what was your main in Wow and in GW1? we could point you to a class that has a similar playstyle.
You’re assuming the price of quartz crystals doesn’t shoot through the roof once the Bazaar is gone?
I’m assuming that, just by doing your normal questing and dungeons while the event is still on, you’re gonna have enough quartz for a full set of armor – we’re not talking about investing time to farm the thing, it’s literaly being given to you in bulk for doing nothing out of the ordinary.
Since you can’t sell the armor, you only need to craft it once and be done with it. What happens with the price of quartz after that is irrelevant (unless you have to re-craft ascended Celestial armor from scratch, that is).So you’re saying everyone and their mother will have 6000 crystals in their bank to cover all 8 characters they have? Granted they will get more from the home node, but in most cases the supply will be smaller than demand.
You need 8 months anyways to make enough charged chrystals to deck out 8 characters.
why for the love of dwayna would you deck out 8 characters with celestial armor? only certain classes would really benefit from wearing them
What boggles my mind is that there are already ways to increase inventory AND bank space. Unless the OP has already maxed them out on all of toons. Then that would be a different story.
I think I forgot to charge a crystal yesterday, which puts me behind, and I don’t know if I can be bothered anymore, as I don’t want the Celestial stats anyway.
This time-gating is Really beginning to hack me off now. It’s not fun, there’s no interesting mechanic behind it and it seems to purely be just a cheap way to keep people logging in. If they don’t log in, they’ll miss out on STUFF!

what was your motivation of getting them in the first place if you didn’t want celestial stats?
Although I think anet is on the right track with the whole time gating thing, 30 days for a complete armor set is too much.

Don’t open the pvp chest then, as they stack. Or you can delete the chest outright.
also, the pvp skins you get from them are soul bound for some reason.
A mesmer may not be the best class for a new player, it under performs at the early levels and will be somewhat hard to level.

If you or anyone is dying in the party then they should get more toughness. Once they get used to the dungeon or class they will die less and opt out to squishier gear.
Toughness is actually one of the factors that determine aggro.

Explain to me why you need an aggro system when you don’t have a tanking system.
I think what he really wants is a mechanic to plan and strategize around, and in some respects it would be cool. You notice the boss is really putting the hurt on a party member who’s low on health so you ‘taunt’ for a few seconds to take the pressure off and buy some time for him to recover-tell me that doesn’t have an appeal. You don’t necessarily need permanent aggro (as that would require tanking as you said) but just some way to reliably manage the boss’ killing intent is an intriguing notion imo. Just think of the encounter like the ones seen in movies or anime where a friend would lure the threat away to save another without ‘tanking’ perse.
there are already ways ingame that can help take the pressure off a wounded party member. a bubble, stealth, body blocking, just to name a few. a “taunt” skill is the lazy man’s save ally button.

go leveling in WvW, you get the same experience you’re looking for(getting jumped while steamrolling mobs) that’s what you want, isnt it?
