It’s just a skin… Newer things will come next month. If you don’t like the marketing offer, don’t buy it. This looks like an attempt to gauge how the community reacts to different kinds of offer.

Vote with your wallet. Anet is a business, they can only comply.

the only thing i can see wrong is that once you get to fractal 40-50 and have the rings/backpiece/weapons you want. you haven’t got a reason to go further. if chest 50 dropped amulets that allowed me to get to 60 which dropped earing that allowed me to get to wherever, it would be epic.

It is also what we thought would be the case, but nope.

They wouldn’t even let us combine 2 rings of the same set into 1 amulet with the same stat combo with some mystic forge recipe that could eat up all those pristine/fractal relics and mist essences, and some other conversion for the earrings.

Heck, they didn’t even allow the new rings to be infused in the forge. At this point I really am not sure if fractals are being given up or what.

Guild Missions [merged]

Heinel.6548

While I think it is important that prominent guilds should have their presence felt by their server community, I am disappointed that the reward system does not reflect a more social environment. All a strong guild really needed is a permanent place to show for themselves, and the game world could even change slightly (within defined boundaries of course) to reflect their influence—a symbol of permanence, if you will, and also a sign of dedication to the server/game, that is right where all the public’s eyes are, near hubs, say, like southsun cove.

I’m really just trying to say guild halls without directly saying it here, because I think the equivalent of guild halls is a possibility, if guild halls are impossible. Because this is what drives the buzz. The island of the guilds can be a social hub, where guilds can interact with the public or with each other (say meetings for WvW, among other things, or a launch pad/meeting point for guild events. Better, with convenient services that makes those activities easier, like a board that shows the current WvW maps, and a bulletin that shows all guild events in the next 24 hours (this means guild events need to be activated 24hrs ahead of time, obviously)).

Have all the exciting planning and discussion shown to the public, non-guilded new players and they can get involved right away. This is what piques curiosity. The buzz generated will be more organic than the ones generated by artificial, ego-centric reinforcements. You’ll have people chat because the topic is interesting, not because it gives them their commendation they needed to farm. If all these is the ultimate reward (with an upkeep maintainence cost, likely) for guild events, we can see guilds clamoring for it, and without others feeling left out—glory and fame was never a goal for small guilds, but it is the best reward for the most social guilds.

The current system as is don’t drive rapport, rapport cannot be manufactured this way. Either people care or they don’t. The ascended gears on the rewards list is building resentment in the community already. I suppose having a short cut to ascended accessories will still make a more compelling advertisement than “Join our guild we have magic find 24/7”. However, the problem with people not being loyal to such guilds is not fixed. It’s simply pushed around. So now guilds are magic find dispensers, but also guild commendation dispensers.

Having more activities to do together is of course nice. Being rewarded for said activities is only reasonable, but stat boosting equipment is just missing the mark. The people who are chasing after the stat numbers are elitists, they are not community players. They want their 6-minute CoF1 runs. They are not going to waste time in LA discussing the current sPvP tournaments, or gossiping about events in WvW.

One could argue that since observer modes are not yet in and currently WvW match ups are too stale and shallow to be worth afternoon banter, that the current system can be a patch work fix. Let me ask you this question. Do you really believe that making GW2 end-game == equipment grind will give you a strong community like those other MMORPGs that lasted a decade plus?

No. It won’t. The people who are most interested in seeing a stronger server identity, and having a reason to login other than grinding for this or that, are staying away from guild missions. With this patch, you are definitely creating some community, but it isn’t one that talks to each other. It’s one that ask people to link equipments and either bail/kick before starting speedruns.

Eh, that’s all it really is: Fun.

It doesn’t have THAT much usability.

It’s actually does if you trait for it…. aegis/regen/protection every 4 sec is a lot. Blind lasts 5 seconds with the spam rate of 4 second. 2.3k burn every 4 second. Cure all conditions every 4 second. 2 blast finisher every 4 second. and on top of it all stealth every 4 second — suppose you’re not in combat you’re exposed only for 1 second.

If you’re using it offensively, you have to include stealth cooldown. Have you actually tried doing it every 4 seconds in combat?

Like I said.. there are more than just stealth. Detection debuff lasts for only 3 secs so yes you can do it every 4 second.

Every 7 seconds*

And again, as to everyone who’s saying this is superb, have you tried doing it yet, because we can theorycraft all we want, but our opponents aren’t going to stand still while we nuke them.

I’m doing it every 4 second and I’m doing right now. How did you come up with 7?

Are you in battle?

I can do it while running about and mostly stealthed but there’s no point.

Depends on what you mean by support. If you mainly support via Aegis and protection, you don’t need healing power. Boon duration will help, and it does effect boons you give others as well. If you want to heal and regen, 480 is definitely too low. You need at least 1000.

Trouble with mesmers in small-scale WvW

Guardians tend not to fair very well against confusion bombers, especially the ones spec’ed with boon removal. You’ll die most of the time, or is completely shutdown so you might just as well die. To combat that there’s two ways, either you

1) Spec full condition removal. All shouts, pure of voice, purity, absolute resolution, soldiers runes. Be very careful about managing confusion stacks on yourself. If you use save yourselves there’s a chance you’ll pull too many stacks, but you will help your team better this way.

2) Spec full condition duration reduction. Rune of melandru, condition reduction food. In order to kill the mesmer you need at least JI and a hammer. It is also possible to bring save yourselves in this build and CoP whenever you get high stacks.

(Alternatively, go full glass and burst the mesmer down before they can stack works too.)

Anet on Class Design and Balance

Heinel.6548

Take what they said with a grain of salt. The interviewer asked about the possibility of dual pistol mesmers and the guy said if no one plays those we need to address it. Mesmers can’t dual wield pistols.

To put that in context, mesmer main hand pistol is one of the most suggested play style on their forum. It is a suggestion- or should I say request, that is on par with guardians asking for a ranged option, both were around since alpha, and has consistently re-surfaced over time until now.

Colin’s response to it is simply dodging the question entirely. You can expect that if the interviewer has instead said ranged combat weapon for the guardian, the response would be the same.

Just read this on the thief forum:

http://dragonseason.com/Front/tabid/124/EntryId/211/Lunch-with-Colin-Johanson-Part-II.aspx

One of the aims of the game was to make every class feel unique, but also viable and fun to play in a variety of ways. What professions have been highlighted as a falling short of this target and what crazy ways have been tried internally to spice them up?

Colin: For me, every profession actually has a lot of different variety available to it. It’s just a matter of if you enjoy that playstyle or not. So I think people look at each profession and they’ll judge it based on “Do I enjoy playing the ways of this profession offers me to play?” And so just going around the table, everybody is playing a different main for the most part. There’s no thieves or warriors here but there’s plenty of them in game. So we know those are represented. We talked about that graph that’s up on the wall. We look at that every day based on what profession people creating and it’s almost always very close to being even across all professions. That’s a really good sign, that is very, very hard to do. In Guild Wars 1 it was not even relatively close to that. It’s a big difference between viability of playstyles versus, you know, not at all. I’m actually really impressed at how generally balanced the professions are. There are certain skills or abilities that all need to get better but across the professions it’s actually pretty decent. It’s just a matter of what playstyle are you interested in. The thing that we have to improve is look at weapons sets that aren’t interesting for that profession or don’t fit the playstyle that we’ve said that profession should have and bring those up to the point that are.

  • (Before the lunch started, Colin spoke about a chart displayed in the office that tracks live results of how many of each class and race are being played, so when one class becomes OP, it shows on the chart. At the moment, all classes are at a level field, with a slight increase in warriors and a slight dip in engineers. Races are hugely different, with humans and norn hitting the highest rolled races, and charr being the lowest.)

So I guess this is the official answer to requests about diversifying guardian WvW roles, getting cripple, range options, etc.

If you can’t heal yourself properly, it doesn’t matter how much you heal others. Not to mention that healing others in this game is mostly inconsequential, unless you can do it with little investment.

How much effort have you put into making the +healing guardian work? I think you need to try a different approach if you’re that down on it. Works great for me i’m all excited about it lately and my teammates love it.

I’m sure you are looking at lots of green numbers and all but if you just kill or cc the people that’s causing all the hurt…

I think Anet just needs to decide whether they want healers to be in game or not, and either actually supporting them or writing them out.

Having healing skills that work on others doesn’t mean we are healers. Those green numbers help others immensely. It’s not all Berserker’s or nothing-we have many ways to play this game. Those “gimped” players can also help kill and “CC” others while offering party wide small heals-high healing power that affect others doesn’t mean that player sees himself/herself as a “healer”.

In short, not everyne must be forced to play by the “killing it faster is always better” mentality, which is fair, but shouldn’t be forced on others.

Nothing you said support slotting healing breeze.

Nobody is claiming little green numbers doesn’t add up or you can’t cc without berserkers. This one skill is just badly implemented is all.

Pure of Voice Trait

in Guardian

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

This has been reported countless times, yet the developers ignore it for whatever reason.

Maybe Arenanet thinks that this trait is so overpowered and they ignore it.

It’s extremely unlikely that they’re just ignoring it. It’s possible that it’s not on their priority list, but there’s no way to tell. I’d like a good long blog post from Arenanet about their ideas and philosophy going forward and how they see each profession. I think it’s important for an MMO developer to communicate really well with their playerbase.

Then can you please explain to me why after 6 months, they have done nothing about it.
The community has reported the problem countless times both here, the bugs section,on other forums, the wiki, heck its even mentioned on the sticky post since day one, yet they have not posted a single time acknowledging the problem or said that they are working on it.

It’s one of our most important traits (A grandmaster trait at that), especially for pvp, yet nothing has been done up to this point to fix it. For me this means they are ignoring the problem.

It’s not the only bug that’s not fixed. Staff #2 still gets stuck a lot and that also was reported during beta, for one. And if you look around the class forums you’ll see that this happens across the board. This is the speed at which bugs get fixed. It’s just not that fast.

Healing Breeze - What can be done?

in Guardian

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

The locust swarm idea sounds good, they could even recycle the heal breeze animation from GW1 (but bigger) and it’d look nicer than it is now, too. I’d bring it just for the walking-whirl-of-healing aspect.

The thing about healing breeze, I don’t think it’s because it’s difficult to use. In the snowball arena the support class also has a skill that behave exactly like heal breeze (maybe a shorter channel?) and I didn’t find it difficult to use. Elementalist’s cone of cold is similar to this as well and I didn’t see people complaining about that.

The actual problem is that there’s just no point bringing it. The game is advertised as not having a healer, so having what’s essentially a full time healer’s skill on the bar but with a prohibitive cooldown seems out of place. It’s the same problem as tome of courage. It still have some niche uses like healing castle lords or caravans, or stack super long retaliation on you with the trait, but most don’t really want to bother.

Another issue is that the other healing skills a guardian has is just too good. This skill pales by comparison and do nothing for the guardian. If they cut the cooldown to 1/4 and drop the healing to 1/4, then one could argue it can be the guardian’s option for a low recharge heal spell (for rune procs and such) and it’d behave somewhat similar to ether renewal for the ele. I think that’s a good trade off.

Shelter up vs other class healing skills?

in Guardian

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

Imo shelter is fine as it is, granted it is always frowned upon in PVE where mobs are predictable, but in W3 countless times has shelter saved my soul, and when used after renewed focus and timed correctly it gave you a 5 sec invulnerably from physical contact window. although I agree with the above, getting feared out of it and put into cooldown is frustrating, but I guess the ones who manage to “see” us putting up shelter in a zerg fight and still managed to fear us out of it, deserves the reward

The unblockable fear comes from necro staff traited and it actually has an extremely large AoE radius. There are other things like traps and static fields that can also mess with it. That said though, I agree that making shelter counter-able is fair. I think it’d be good if the skill heal you over the course of the channel, rather than only at the end. It is, after all, a heal skill, and should provide at least some assurance of survival.

Unreasonable changes on ele

I think a lot of guardians would actually take a swap with Line of warding for Unsteady Ground. It’d give us a viable escape option on the staff, and the eles can deal with that self rooting clunky road block thing that doesn’t block anyone with half a brain.

You know guardians would lose a combo field if they made that swap. Though it doesn’t say so in the tool tip, Line of Warding is a light field that could offer retaliation and remove conditions. Any Ele would go for that trade as the staff ele’s only combo finishers lie in the earth attunement.

So let’s petition for it to happen. Everyone wants it.

Thank you for your advice, yLoon.5289 — much appreciated.

I particularly liked this idea:

For Gnawl Stage, you need to have Shield, Hammer, Scepter for the CC to prevent hostage being killed.

Our 5 skill on shield does have a nice knockback

What do you think of Virtues I – Increased damage by 20% when you are affected with Aegis? I don’t use it on fights that require reflects but for everything else it seems pretty nice. Although I’m pretty new to Guardian and am not sure how long my Aegis is staying up.

Aegis usually ends as soon as the fight starts, unless you have an extremely blind intensive party, fighting something that doesn’t hit back, or has 100% perfect dodge record as a melee fighter with no other avoidance tricks.

Guardian with longbow

in Guardian

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

The projectiles actually track them and will hit them unless they go out of maximum range. You can technically move away from longbow/shortbow attacks as well if you’re at max range from the person firing it. If you change the playstyle of the weapon to play on its strengths rather than the strengths of another weapon type it works quite well actually.

You can argue that what others see as weakness you see as a strength. However in this case you are objectively wrong. The scepter requires a target to fire and the tracking is calculated base on your target’s direction and velocity at the point of fire. You have no input other than choosing the target. No matter your play style this is a flaw. Reason: You do not control this ability, your target does. If your play style revolves around turning on auto attack and then forget about it and hope your target gets hit, you are less effected by this flaw. You are still not being offensive however, as the scepter only hits when the target allows it. At best this is mild denial, but on a level worse than retaliation. This make the weapon undesirable in high level organized play, and un-viable as a ranged offensive option. There is still no other option so people often are still forced to use it, creating a lot of discontent.

This can be fixed by allowing us to manually aim the attack with camera when no targets are selected (same for staff 2, focus 4). I think projectile attacks with a curved trajectory can be shot without a target and can be partially aimed with character direction (bows fall in this category), so maybe straight line non-homing projectiles shooting the ground can be considered a bug. This is however up to Anet to decide.

It’s only one skin, you could easily make up many more with a new weapon. Not many people even have it.

There are at least 2 confirmed. More than enough to set precedence. You’ll probably have more luck asking for a scythe like skin for hammer or gs. Melee weapons in gw2 cleave by default. Unless you can make a very strong case for a self strip boon mechanic to be made viable (or something more novel) there is nothing scythes can bring to the table.

The biggest problem is that once you have the rings you want from FotM, every char is decked out with 20 slot bags and you finally get the Fractal weapon skin you want, there is no more point to doing Fractals at all anymore unless you hate your bank having any available room in it.

The only reason I continue doing FotM is because I want the Fractal GS but my bank cant hold much more, I have 5000+ Fractal Relics and 45 Pristine Fractal Relics and nothing to get with them so all they are doing is eating up an entire bank slot almost along with the bank slots holding my 34 rings that cant be sold, mystic forged or salvaged.

There should be a few changes in my opinion, we should be able to upgrade relics to pristine relics, we should be able to buy ascended gear with pristine relics and we should be able to do SOMETHING with all these rings.

Rings were made available through Laurels because people complained that they wanted to be able to get them if they didn’t want to play FotM, and I think its great that they gave people that option but ascended gear is the only way to get higher AR to be able to progress higher in FotM so it only makes sense to be able to acquire that gear through doing FotM.

I do enjoy doing FotM, I do a 26 or 28 daily and a 30-36 daily as often as I can but after I get my GS my bank can’t handle it anymore and I will have to stop doing them and that sucks.

For those that will inevitably give me ideas on what to spend relics on, I have all my mats for a legendary already so have no need for shards or skill points, I have 3 ascended back pieces and every char I have is decked out with 20 slot bags so I am just stuck pileing up all these relics.

On getting some use on those relics and rings. I think they could incorporate a mystic forge recipe to transmogrify rings into amulets.

They can work this way:

One set of rings (such as lunaria+solaria) + X gifts of ascension (# dependent on how much time they think it should take) + mist essence = 1 amulet of the same type (eyes of abaddon, eye of janthir, or syzygy in this case).

the type of mist essence is used to determine what infusion slot you get. 9 vials = offensive, 3 glob = defensive, 1 shard = utility.

Also implement another random recipe that takes 2 rings not of the same set and spits out a random amulet.

Done.

The lack of cripple

in Guardian

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

can’t quote coz body length

None of those problems will be fixed by cripple.

First, What you should expect in a fair fight:

With an offensive guardian build you only need to get a few hits in to kill someone. The whole fight shouldn’t last more than 20 seconds. On GS and Hammer, the CC abilities themselves are also full on attacks. If you can disrupt a heal skill with the pull or a knockdown it’s pretty much impossible that anyone would survive. JI’s 1200 range teleport give you the element of surprise that’s not unlike stealth if you engage from behind (I know culling is bad you don’t balance around culling). If that doesn’t work then you are facing a bunker. Pick a new target.

Second, the problems:

The first complaint here that one could make would be that spike guardians don’t have any reliable escape options the other glass cannons have. But the guardian is also the class that’s best suited towards an offensive but not full on glass cannon spike build. The autoattack-centric dps means their main damage source is resource-free and always available. There’s not many must-dodge burst abilities that people watch for. This is where the differences comes in. Classes that has more abundant snaring capabilities are also more burst centric, and their playstyle revolves around aligning these two elements together at the same time to achieve a kill. The guardian damage source is constant, and the only thing you have to jiggle is to keep people in range. This alone gives you more freedom than 100b-warriors (one shot or go home), and even thieves, who have to manage initiatives. When those classes mis-aligned or their combo is countered, they are left with no option other than escape. Guardian with at least some staying power can try to continue to maneuver themselves around the fight and pressure their targets to death.

The second complaint is that bunker guardians cannot kill. When you face a target that kites you all the time and you can’t really bring them down, you are actually getting killed by a (semi)bunker. This problem only exists in WvW as that’s where solo roaming is rampant and the game is not balanced around that. This is where the guardian is truly seeing trouble and it’s a WvW thing. In sPvP, bunkers do not chase, so anyone can run if they please. Whether this will eventually be fixed remains to be seen. There are some points for and against fixing this issue. For one, different classes are supposed to serve different function in WvW. Guardians cannot solo roam (as effectively, but still somewhat viable) just like thieves cannot zerg ball. Then there’s also the issue that WvW is supposed to cater to casuals and solo roaming is a big part of it. If anything about the guardian were to be changed for this though, it has to be localized to WvW only. As the guardian is in a good state in sPvP.

The third complaint has to do with running from zergs. In terms of mobility, guardian is on about the same level as mesmers, but mesmer has stealth. Not sure if design choice but the guardians tool set does not include something that can allow them to reliably extract themselves from sticky situation. I personally think this is a bug. The teleport skills should teleport you forward (or backward in case of merciful intervention) when no targets are selected or available. Leap skills behave this way. Instant leap skills (phase retreat) also behave this way. There’s no reason the guardian teleport skills don’t behave this way. Barring that, there’s always the option of making merciful intervention ground targeted. This is again up to Anet to say, however.

ya I mean what are you goign to do after you buy your amulet with pristine relics? keep complaining?

No. I get on to playing my fractals as developers originally intended. And patiently wait for new fractals to be released. Unlike some people, I actually play the game for fun.

Ok you don’t need to insult me. the “unlike some people part”.

Since you can patiently wait for new fractals to be release, you can patiently wait for your amulet too, and you can patiently progress through fotm level80. I think it’s common sense agony is just a mechanism to stop people from reaching fractal level80 and think they are done with the game.

And I do hope they make pristine relic tradable for amulet too. 20 pristine relic is like lol, I can do that in 5 days. I just need to get my 3rd and 4th alt to fotm10. I’m sure it’s even eaiser for other people at high level fotm since they can do multiple daily with multiple alt.

Right, back to first post again: The point is not that it takes too long. It’s that it’s impossible to get ascended amulet from fractals.

You can, doesn’t mean the others are just as able. If I’m capable of maintaining a 25 stack of might with 60% boon duration and healing with Battle Presense and dodge rolling for 1500 a heal so the group can focus more on DPS, why not? It’s how I want to play the kitten class.

You aren’t maintaining 25 stacks of might. Not even half that.

40 to 60% Boon/Might Duration, Virtue of Courage, Empower, fire fields from Purging Flames and/or Cleansing Ground with Mighty Blow’s Blast finishers coupled with Master of Consecretions and Two-handed Mastery and with Empowering Might.

Its not that hard to maintain past 15 to 20 stacks of might on your lonesome. All of the buffs are party-wide as well.

I’ll admit I was slightly exaggerating, but it’s possible to maintain might as a Guardian.

I have +70% boon duration and I wouldn’t boast 20 stacks of might only from myself to the entire party. You do not have enough blast finishers, and you also need everyone to bunch up in your fire field, which is impractical unless you’re in open world PvE. Empower does give a lot of stacks by itself, but in order to channel it you have to stop attacking, which offsets all the damage you’ll get from it. Empower is a pre-spike, otherwise it’s a healing skill. Using empower to maintain might stacks is a prime example of only looking at the numbers, and not the actual fight.

I agree, Amulets should cost 20 pristine relics or so.

@Edit
Although the prices on laurel vendor (35L each ring, 30L amulet) makes me think they want people to get rings on FotM and amulets by spending laurels.

I’m fine with laurels still being the easiest way to acquire ascended amulets, just as long as pristine relic is an option.

good for you. Tell it to the other people who complain the only place to get any money or reward is in fotm.

and you already should get your ascended amulet tomorrow right? so I don’t know why you are complaining.

Only people who have never set foot in fotm would say that’s the only place to get money or reward. (Hello? CoF 1?) Their opinions are uninformed and irrelevant.

There’s at least a few more days until the first amulets can be bought, and that’s for only one character. For anyone who has more than one character, this will take about half a year. And this is only for one slot. In that same timeframe more slots will have been released. Thereby creating the gear-treadmill that none but a select few can keep up with.

Well if they would you would have ppl crying about fractal becoming the end all be all. I mean realty coming in here and saying that ppl eat there words on views they do not have that has NOTHING to do with what ppl are talking about.

Any way we truly have no idea what going to happen in the next few months or even this coming up month i suggest holding on to every thing until then things may changes if not the system as is painfully easy to get items it just takes some amount of time. If you just wanted things handed to you then mmorpgs are not for you your better off playing an fps where every thing is unlocked day one and you quit playing it day 2.

Way to read nothing then display pure stupidity by speaking up.

I never said progression needs to be removed. I said fractals REQUIRE ascended items, so I should be able to acquire ascended items through the fractal currency.

I guess i miss read it i am just trying to point out that its new and things take time. If you put these items on fractal you will see ppl out cry saying fractal is the only end game that worth any thing and in there view do not wish to be made to do it.

I’m only asking for the amulets. There are many other unique rewards you can get with laurels that has nothing to do with ascended items.

I think that’s the point. Fractal is already rewarding enough. You are kind of saying the only thing rewarding to do is daily and fotm.

People always complain there is nothing to do with their deck of pristine relics and stash of ascended ring…. but look at it this way, if you already have so much of it, and you still do it everyday. It is already rewarded enough that you still do it everyday.

and most fractal runners still do dailys, I can’t say its the same the other way around.

I don’t care about being rewarded enough. And I think a lot of the fractal runners are indeed only playing for the sake of playing. The so called rewards are just there to allow you to pass the gear check. I care that I cannot finish lv 40+ without exploits. The farmers can get their DPS numbers however big and that’s none of my business.

… which is absurd.

How can people not be upset by this? First, they eat their words on “no gear treadmill,” then they eat their words on “play how you like.” What’s next? Are they going to eat their words on “no monthly fees?” They do have the tools to do it with that little gem store of theirs.

But, anyway. I’m actually fine with each type of activity having it’s own currency. This means that people who enjoy any one type of activity can do their progression with that specific currency and not mess up the other currencies. It’s just that when some currency is clearly superior, like laurels, that are not only artificially capped in scarcity, but also offer TONNES of unique rewards, including performance increasing rewards, while other types of currencies, like pristine relics and badges of honor, are dirt cheap and useless. They are clearly playing favoritism on one part of the player base, and not the others. I mean, why would you even want ascended gears if you don’t step foot in WvW or fractals? Autoattacking dungeon bosses or farming DEs too difficult? There is no point. This is not acceptable.

I wouldn’t use altruism on guardians. If you need convincing, think of the times when you think fury will help your party the most (guardian can give might easily anyways), then think of the times where you really must press that heal button. See if those situations align.

Though if you want party boons, consider monks. I think it synergizes with guardian traits.

AH isn’t even the trait to go if you’re looking at party heal output. If you want something like the shout heals build. You need at least selfless daring (2k), pure of heart(2k), then add writ of the merciful, regeneration and battle presence together, then factor in -33%dmg from protection, and subtract 2-3 (if you also use retreat) spikes from aegis blocks.

The lack of cripple

Cripple isn’t as good as you think.

If you ask for cripple it WILL come with a damage rebalance and overall it will be a nerf to guardians. Cripple works better for ranged people to kite since it doesn’t actually stop movement, you’ll still have to continuously move to adjust yourself, which means you can’t really unload the biggest spikes, which requires the target to be right beside you for at least a couple seconds.

If you look at warriors who do DPS builds, they all take knockdown/immobilize utilities + gap closers, just like what is required for the guardian as well. They don’t waste time crippling. The ones who do, fail. Or they are bunker builds. Warrior bunkers need to kite to survive (guardians don’t).

Comparing weapons from different classes also doesn’t make sense. Since different class has their various abilities weighted differently between weapons and utility. You need to compare complete builds. People who compare only the weapons are mis-representing the class gap to bolster their arguments. The reason why guardians are utility heavy is because the class is easy to turtle. And turtling makes for un-fun gameplay because it causes stalemates most of the time.

Arguably fractal runners need it more than anyone else. They could make it cost more than rings, just like the laurel vendor sell rings for more than amulets. 15 or even 20 pristine relic for one ascended amulet seems fair.
