I like the dungeon, I hate Scarlet Briar....

Heinel.6548

Arena Net wants us to hate Scarlet Briar the point we would torture her when we captured her. Now you see the development and the build up of tension, we are starting to really hate her just like how villains should be. This is actually interesting, people felt nothing when they were hunting down Zhaitan, now people really want to beat the kitten out of Scarlet. Once we have defeated Scarlet we would feel satisfied getting rid of her.

There is a different between hating a villain and hating a villain that is extremely toxic to the game lore, treating her like the BEST THING EVAR while remove current content of the game, and shoving her in every game content there is in this game. I would not be 100% satisfied when Scarlet dies because her history and her action is still in the game.

The stuff removed is as forgettable as can be. Give it a week, heck, even just a couple days, and people will forget who got replaced, and it wouldn’t make a difference lore wise, because it was just a random girl conjured out of nowhere, doing whatever, and leave no mark in the world.

Scarlet has already made a strong enough impression in the minds of players. Mission accomplished.

Too frustrating, Too many Rage quitters.

With dungeons I try to see for myself some good tactics on how to beat the boss, without making my group need to do a lot of hard work.

For the first boss it was very simple: Tell your four random guys to stack on the oil shooting guy (forgot his name), DPS the kitten out of him and tell them you are going to cleanse the oil with that ooze and the ooze buff.
To use this tactic I had to go through ragequitters and trolls, but in the end I found a good way, because the four randoms, all they need to do is fight for themselves and I did the kiting and cleansing.
When the oil shooting guy is down, you focus the ooze and they focus the other guy. GG EASY

Second boss, GG EASY

Last boss, I have no single idea how you can effectively carry your group?
Has anyone tried stacking on him in melee range, going full DPS and you lure ghosts to him to bring his armor down?
Or what do you guys do? I DC’ed and we could not end it, because me as party leader couldnt find a descent solution.

So yes, failing a Dungeon as party leader is 100% your own fault. I had a brilliant idea for the first boss, but because I could not figure out how to kill the last boss, we failed.

I carried 2 fairly dimwitted people in my very first run. If your members can auto attack you can beat it (mine did no more than that).

Just ask people to stick together and follow you, while you constantly move towards a holo. Now, I know that sometimes it’s difficult to even get people to follow you, but you just need to let them die repeatedly and they’ll learn eventually. Whenever the boss puts his shield up, use a pull skill to pull the holo right on top of the boss, it should die quickly to the auto attacks. From then on it’s just rinse repeat.

If they put some higher tier resources, maybe an ori node or some Orr resources, people might actually go into these areas. As it sits, its like pulling teeth to get anyone to go into BL cap points. No one cares.

Actually, they need soft wood forests, and rich iron veins.

Stop grasping at straws. So what if it’s in the open world? Just avoid that beach for 15 minutes when you hear the howl. Is that so difficult? Talk about entitlement.

If you are an actual raid guild leader complaining about not being able to get members into the same instance I can sort of sympathize, but you’re not. And yet, fret not, for you are not beyond redemption. The next LS promises a… drum roll… NEW INSTANCE—just what you’re asking for.

People who say the event will die out is really missing the point.
After a couple months, they just need to release a new material for precursor crafting, to be dropped by revamped dragon champions only, and they will secure the continued prosperity of these events. It’s really not rocket science.

They did make some new gemstore armor sets. I guess it’s fair for full sets to be on there. They could always put tradeable rewards on the content so people who don’t want to pay money can instead pay gold. I do think it would be nice if more armors are released more often (as long as quality does not suffer, some of the stuff we got on the store are not up to standard IMO).

What about the other two?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

Now that Tequatl has been bested. What are people looking forward to for the other 2 dragon champions? Personally I’m hoping for a less focus on DPS builds, and more for the other 2 playstyles, control and support.

I realized that the revamp is not so much creating something entirely from scratch but more about making the fight that was originally intended. That means existing mechanics will be reused, and made a bit more significant. Still there are a number of things to discuss:

What we have now
Teq is primarily a dps race. Most of the control and support came from turrets. All organized runs have people build to boost maximum power, %dmg increase, dps consumables and so forth. There are some limited stability and projectile defence, other than that there’s no build variety. This leaves a sour taste on people who prefer something else. While support oriented players can opt to do turrets, do we want an engagement where 6 people determine the fight for the rest of the team? What if they disconnect, or otherwise got to go? The fights are supposed to be open world. The 6 key members situation seems to go against that.

Other options
We have a rich variety of control options such as blind and weakness, and multiple ways to disrupt. This is just an example, but wouldn’t it be interesting if Teq would gobble up control conditions on itself, and expend scale stacks in the process, instead of having the turrets staking it? What if the primary way of dealing with fingers is to disrupt it, rather than just roll it with dps before it makes the first swing?

Then there’re the turrets. There’re only 6 of them. I get that Claw of Jormag has unlimited bazookas instead that anyone can take, so that’s different. Again as an example, what if we flip it around and make it so claw is immune to all damage (it fits the lore), except the vigil bazooka. And the fight primarily involves people taking control and supportive builds, and flipping between picking up the bazooka to damage claw, or dropping it to fend off dangers? Another way to put this, how many people would like to see a fight where bunker builds (optimized for HPS, rather than DPS—to maximize time on bazooka) is the meta?

Army Marching Sound Effects

in WvW

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

I think zergs need to have marching sound effects. Whenever there’s a huge glob of people running around, they need to make noise. Grumbling footsteps audible to all enemies, volume base on distance and size of group. Imagine armies marching in medieval time. Those soldiers don’t run around silent. They make sure people from miles away hear them and stay away.

This need to occur in WvW, as part of the anti zerg initiative. Roamers and underdog server can evade and out-maneuver giant zergs much more easily. Veil exploits by way over the intended number of targets become much less effective.

Most importantly, this achieves the objectives without any forceful limitations on player behaviors, while turning WvW into a much more immersive, cinematic experience.

I’m kinda hoping he survived, although weakened, and retreated to the Ring of Fire. Then Anet can make another Zhaitan fight. One where we don’t just stand there and press a single button.

Crossing my fingers, but I’m doubtful that will happen.

The entire story from lv 30 onward was the Zhaitan fight. The big red button was the last act, a finisher, after a long arduous battle. Zhaitan was in downed state before you enter Arah story.

The whole set up is actually plausible as it is now. If we are to fight Zhaitan when it’s ready for us, we would just get instajibbed and turned into risen, and that would be the end. The player heroes are not omnipotent. It would take the biggest deux ex machina for us to slay him in combat.

How Does One Become A Magic Profession?

in Lore

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

Generally speaking, practitioners of one profession won’t trade secrets with one person from another profession. That’s why Necromancers can’t make illusions of themselves, and Mesmers can’t raise the dead.

It’s going to be harder and harder to keep such knowledge secret with Tyrian society advancing has it has. Give it another hundred years, the Priory are probably going to partner with the Asura to create something akin to the internet, then all such secrets to the professions are going to be s.o.l…

Future number one video on YouMagi: “How anymore can raise the dead in 3 easy steps!”

=)

I think that could be an interesting game mechanic as well, to let people get environmental weapons that give them a skillset of a different flavor, or expanded racial/pve skills that are not locked to any profession.

Heinel.6548

As much as I would love this to turn out true, I do not have faith enough in the people writing this story to have leveraged such an intriguing and meaningful plot hook.

I wish to be proven wrong but ultimately this level of complexity is beyond the scope of GW2, which is very much just random pulp fantasy at this point, where lore is written to justify adding things to the world in stead of the other way around.

As long as the theory is not inconsistent with any other official sources, it may as well be true.

GW1 lore was considered rich not because of Anet’s (non-existent) story telling skills. It was because the community filled in the gaps and expanded it on their own. The original lore forum had a decree on which it was founded upon:

Nothing in game is happenstance or programming limitations. Absolutely everything you can see is deliberately put there.

It is from that foundation that people found the reassurance to let creativity flow and enrich the otherwise mediocre mmo-world. Bottomline: You’re buying into the fantasy, would you rather have a nice one, or a meh one?

Kind of a catch 22 situation. Every time they add a new permanent activity in game, they fracture the player base and makes it more difficult to find other players to play with.

The best way to go about this, for someone with limited time to play, is to not read about the previews at all (especially if you cannot live vicariously through reading the notes, you’re doing yourself a disservice by doing so), and just log in to the game whenever you’re ready, and participate in whatever is happening at that time.

Enjoy the moment, that’s what life’s about. You will never be happy, and indeed you are actively seeking unhappiness, if you keep fretting over things you missed.

It can be alleviated somewhat if people within the zerg chain condition cleansing AOEs like null field, well of power, and (in the future) purging flames. It might be easier this way too as every time the zerg abruptly changes direction, someone will get left behind, and you also risk confusing the turret users as to the precise location of things. The view is extremely messy at front, and the turret cleanser aoe is very small.

Glad to see no one acknowledged the fact that Teq cannot be critically hit. zerker builds aren’t exactly useful either. GW has always been about making people bring the right tools for the right task. Every profession can contribute fully in the teq fight with the right tools, this is already miles ahead of the GW1 days where if you’re not ele, sin or war it’s gtfo.

GW didn’t have a gear grind and stats could be changed in any outpost just as easily as skills. GW2 lacks that flexibility and instead forces its users to grind out multiple sets in order to be competitive.

And it’s silly to imply that there aren’t favored classes in GW2. Guardians, warriors and elementalists reign supreme when it comes to Tequatl slaying. Everybody else is just kind of there for the ride.

Stat grinding is a different issue. Has nothing to do with this supposed “condition neglect.”

As for class discrimination, I think the issue is more war/ele/guard is simply more numerous, so strategies are built around them. If the other classes were more popular, people would’ve come up with different tactics.

I think the reason is that the waves are not static and continue to move towards you, so if you only jump when the wave is in front of you, you will get hit before you reach the required height to go over the wave. If you jump early and jump forward, you’ll have a much bigger chance of clearing it than if you wait and jump.

Alternatively abuse the programming with bunny hops, as has been stated, seemed to be the safest approach.

Has anyone done anything with the story that explains why Rytlock specifically cares about Tequatl or is the story just attaching characters to content now simply because they didn’t have anyone else?

Because Rytlock already has plenty of interest in the elder dragons and their minions. The fact that Tequatl is gaining power after Zhaitan’s defeat is something that concerns him. What if that happens whenever an elder dragon falls; one of their minions start gathering strength and ends up being just as powerful as their old master?

Should have been a Raid

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Heinel.6548

Heinel.6548

They are trying to bring “life” into the zones, and not just shove everything into an instance within an instance — especially for a WORLD event. If it wasn’t a world-event, then an instanced “raid” style could have more pros than cons, but that simple isn’t the case.

And yet that’s exactly what they’re doing with overflows. Once the world can actually house all the players wanting to participate I’ll go ahead and concede that it might be a good idea. But given the technological limitations of the game instancing this kind of content is the only reasonable choice.

It is almost certain that the current overflow situation will not persist after a couple weeks. Why fix something that will correct itself if you leave it alone for a bit?

On the other hand, it would be ridiculous for them to introduce ascended crafting one day, then two weeks later release a shortcut to let you bypass it all. If you want to acquire ascended items this way, wait for the optimal strategy to come out, then farm it everyday.

You do realize that EVERY other piece of gear in the game can be had multiple ways right? Hell, you don’t even need to craft a legendary if you just farm the gold. What seems ridiculous to you is exactly what this game had at launch: many different ways to get the best gear. I see absolutely no reason why Anet wouldn’t increase the chance of ascended chests dropping from the only challenging large group fight in the game.

It does drop from Tequatl. It is already a viable way to acquire ascended weapons. What are you arguing about?

Would carrion be a viable alternative at all? Toughness sucks pretty hard in PvE, so while you wouldn’t have power as your main stat, having power, cond damage and vit gives you three relevant stats on objects versus PVT’s … 2.5 relevant stats. Then again I have zero experience with applying conditions with my mesmer beyond bleeds from sharper images and vuln on sword and I know bosses hit the cap pretty quickly, so…

You got it right in your last sentence. The main method of bleed application for mesmers is sharper images. Tequatl is a gadget. You can’t crit on gadgets. No crits = no need for precision + no need for crit chance + no ability to apply bleeds + no need or condition damage.

On top of that, bosses do get ….everything capped pretty much instantly, so conditions are mostly useless. Power is the only relevant attack stat against gadgets.

Wow…that was an eye opener…talk about narrow play-style when dealing with bosses then. Thanks…didn’t know that. >_>

If you want to do zerker you can defend turrets. There you fight some mobs, including some very scaled up vets and champs. You can crit those, though conditions will probably still be of limited use.

Second on null field, use it at the point impact between the zergs, and watch all your guys wrapped in beautiful purple spheres, be nigh invincible, and trample through the boon staved enemy like a fully loaded freight train. Stagger the fields to keep chaos armor up as long as possible. The visual effect of a field of purple bubbles are extremely demoralizing to enemy zerglings, and the actual effects, while hard to see (and therefore hard to gauge by enemy commanders), are extremely potent. You just need a few seconds of this for the enemy to start retreating (or die, the side with chaos armor will always last longer), and once the retreating begins, so does the fail cascade. With that unstrippable effect alone, one mesmer can still turn the tides for a zerg vs zerg.

If you want to tag, just make sure chaos storm hits at least a few enemies, and either izerker a clump of red tags, or join the melee train with a sword. The sheer amount of auto attacks flying around means chaos armor performance will be at peak. You just won’t die if chaos armor is up, unless the odds are extremely stacked against you.

Final solution for league and transfers

I hope you take into consideration adding achievements that encourage zergs to disperse. Lets not have another WvExp situation.

Although, all in all, I’m not enthusiastic about this new system. I fail to understand the concept of “competition” that you hope to instill, when the playing field is inherently unbalanced. Numbers win everything. How is that a fair competition?

At no point did I, or would I have, said “Fair competition” WvW is not intended to be “fair”. There are servers with more people, there are servers with better organizations and that will always be the case. This competition will be about showing how your world can do over a defined period of time, against a variety of opponents. SPvP is the part of our game that aims for a completely level playing field. WvW would never be able to match that goal.

No, you haven’t ever said that, nor did I claim that you said that. And in fact, THAT’S THE POINT! WvW is not fair, as you have now admitted. On a server-by-server basis, WvW rewards population imbalance and off-hours coverage. YET, you have proposed introducing a competitive league, which would imply some sort level playing field where everyone has a shot of participating and winning. Thus this new league is a paradox.

My concern, and I think I can speak for a lot of players, is that the little guy is being left behind. Most of us greatly enjoy the servers we are currently on because we don’t enjoys Queue times and 100 man zergs – not to mention the community bonds we have formed. But you’ve essentially encouraged this behavior in your other posts by suggesting that if players want to win they should transfer – which smacks of a money grab, but that’s a different discussion. But what of those of us who don’t want to transfer? By all accounts it seems like we are getting left in the dust.

Now I understand there are probably a lot of things still left to be implemented and fleshed out as you approach the implementation date, but I urge you to consider ways for the lower ranked servers to still “win”. Not just as individuals on a server, but servers as a whole. Perhaps some sort of handicap? Something that gives us incentive to fight even if we’re matched against much bigger servers every week?

I greatly fear that this league will utterly gut many of the servers and rip apart communities. I’m not sure that’s the outcome you wish to accomplish. I look forward to hearing more about how my server can succeed in this league even though it doesn’t have the population or coverage to even begin to compete against the higher ranked servers.

To add to this. I think it speaks volumes when the first impression I get when I initially see the announcement is “… My server does not stand a chance.” Looking at LA and WvW map chats, there’s zero chatter about the feature. People either don’t know about it or don’t care about it. If this is not the definition of failure, I do not know what is. If it is supposed to drive excitement towards WvW and rile up potential new participants, it has utterly failed, and failed before it has even begun.

If they had made a competitive league for sPvP it would make sense and I think a lot of people, even people who do not intent to join, could find it an enjoyable experience to ride the hype train and spectate, or even to bet on the matches. WvW is different.

The outcome of WvW matches are determined before the matches start. It’s basically just telling server X “Hey, kudos to you for staying together, because your server comprised of the majority of WvWers, here’s a nice badge to show off to the other peasants.”

Guess what people are gonna do to stay with the “cool crowd?”

4. All servers will receive rewards at the end of the season, proportional to their final rank. However, the rewards are divided evenly between registered players. A player on a low population server that comes 4th may get a much larger prize than someone on a high pop server that comes first. Servers that achieve success in spite of their low registered population will be the most rewarding, even if they don’t win.
Registered number of players is published for each server.

I like this a lot. CD is not as small as some of the others, but we aren’t big. The server match up for us has so far been nothing short of completely broken. We kept facing zerg servers like TC FA where we get rolled 5 to 1 at off peak, 20 to 1 at peak. We can sort of scrape by with 5 to 1 odds, but at a cost and effort entirely disproportionate to what our enemies are putting out, what with their auto-attacking up-leveled tide of the ocean.

We get penalized everyday of the week and you know what’s most discouraging? It’s when your outnumbered buff dropped out momentarily at the moment you die. Whatever causes that it’s sickening.

Anyway. I think splitting rewards among participants should be implemented in WvW. ALL of WvW.

confusion is the only counter to dodge

Confusion is not a counter to dodge. Immobilize is the condition that outright prevents you from performing a dodge.

People need to learn that confusion is itself an attack, you dodge the confusion application, not try to dodge after it is already applied. This goes with all other damaging condition abilities. Just because the condition sometimes doesn’t do damage doesn’t mean you should allow the opponent to apply it on you.

I’m also quite sure it is intended that confusion should punish defensive abilities, otherwise there’s no point to it when compared to straight up offensive conditions like bleed, poison and burning.

If they do nerf confusion though, I hope they’ll re-introduce energy denial and draining from GW1. Let mesmers drain endurance from their enemies.

I think the guilds that left will be a good fit for tier 2. If they were stressing out that much about losing a lot of points when they weren’t playing because of our NA, then they probably take WvW a lot more seriously than most of CD. When they were here they logged in, wiped zergs, and capped towers. Now that they are on TC, they will log in, wipe zergs, and cap towers. Only difference is the number you see by your server name.

That is true for at least one person —the first one-- the rest of them I’m not so sure. The more probable reason for the majority of them is simply herding, from what I was told anyhow. Some of the people who post here I’ve never even seen in WvW so….

For those that rolled with us, you would understand that no one in Awe cares about the points. We take alot of pleasure in open field fights. Something that we have been working on for quite a while now.

We’re under no delusions, we’re not that good. We have ways to improve, and for us. Fighting top guilds gives us that chance. It was never about winning or bandwagoning. You’re all entitled to your opinion, but we just hope you guys will understand. CD was home to us for a long time and it’s not our wish to leave on bad terms.

There’s no such thing as leaving on good terms. The best you can do is leave silently and never look back. Any attention seeking posts after departure will be considered flame baits and treated as provocation.

They just need to give it a purpose for the server as a collective whole. So far their updates have been failing at this point. The progression system rewards only the individual and does not give the person status among allies. The leaderboard provides no useful information for server-wide recognition.

It appears they’ll continue to move three steps forward and two steps back.

WvW Leaderboards

When I heard leaderboards I was hoping to see kill counts, objective counts, and siege weaponry damage counts and such for at least your own server.

It’s another way to get recognition within the server community and reward people, especially siege users and zerg busters. They could even add one for dolyaks escorted, too.

Oh well. Moving on.

What is the purpose of this thread? The only CDers are the people currently playing on CD. Period.

The point of this thread is.. I missed the old server where my guild grew onto.. I will never forget where I started WvWing.

Thank you. So it wasn’t enough treachery to renounce the CD badge, but you need to rub it in with flame bait threads every so often. Cool.

For old time’s sake, I heard War Machine is very authoritarian. You must not be very accustomed to their level of discipline.
