One of the things I never seen people talk about when talking about support mesmers, is Phantasmal Healing. Perma group regen with just 2 phantasms up, you can do it straight from the start by weapon swapping once. Scales well with healing power, stackable on top of virtue of resolve, soothing mists. Many classes have access to regen boon, but few can have the kind of coverage a mesmer can put out.
The only complaint I have for support mesmers are the lackluster grandmaster traits in the inspiration line. However, any build with at least 15 in inspiration are automatically solid supporters, without you putting any thoughts into it.

Thanks for the quick reply, i like staff coz it also helps my group problem i have with it is the lag, its impossible to place down chaos storm in a place where u got 200-300 ppl fighting, i spam it for 10 times on the ground and nothing happens.
I think i’ll try to get mirror images and lots of clones while shattering with cry of frustration to apply confusion, also glamours and reflects.
The thing about using illusions, is that under skill lag, the clones also does not come out, even if you get the retreat. Then you also have to deal with them dying before shattering to guard staff 1s. That’s why i try to stay away from shatter builds. Otherwise, confusing enchatnments, imbued diversion/chaos storm/into the void + rune of perplexity would be ideal (in fact this just might work in smaller groups).

Standing around autoattacking a mob is not hard at all. It’s just the champ farms give more gold/hr.
Have you been in the intance this year? Every group i have been in dies to the candy corn guy because they don’t know how to stand in candy goo, or dies to the litch because they don’t learn when they attack the little skeletal dudes they reflect damage.
Now I do agree champ farms give more gold/hr. but I don’t agree to the standing around auto attacking part…. well unless you are the guy I see standing there with all of his gear broken and dead 90% of the fight.
I kill the viscount and the lich once per day this year. If you aren’t dead yourself, you’ll kill it. Doesn’t matter how many ppl died to the barrage.
Standing around autoattacking a mob is not hard at all. It’s just the champ farms give more gold/hr.
The merc camp ones are indeed problematic. It would have been alright if mercs actually contribute to the war effort, but they don’t. In the time it takes to cap the merc village, you could have flipped a camp or killed a dolyak or two, or flipped a camp and killed 2 dolyaks.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
every time i died was because of the mad king says….. animation is too kitten long
The trick is to keep watching the ghost for the cast animation. The attack can be dodged or LOSed. If there’s only one ghost chasing you it’s quite easy to keep cc’ing it with web or torch. If you feel like taking risks you can even run up to it and start dodging attacks for extra points, or even to kill it with hammer or bone (20 points per kill!).
If you are going to use the fleeing tactic, make sure you run around objects and walls as much as possible so all the mad king says attacks fail.
Staff 1 with Bifrost is very visible X)
Also, I prefer feedback to not be changed. I can put it on zerglings behind walls without going through the choke. If you want a ground targeted glamor, use null field instead.
Humans can’t have black eyes too. It’s a bummer since I have black eyes in RL.
I’m unclear on how the reward works. Is it that only the top ten players get any reward? If so, what is your incentive to die on purpose? It just ensures you don’t get any rewards.
There isn’t an incentive, that’s why he doesn’t comply. The farmers are trying to farm him but are unwilling to put in the effort to actually best him in the game. Therefore, they “order” him to give in.
This acheivement needs to be changed, for one reason: if you survive as a villager until late in the round and then die, YOU LOSE ALL THE EFFORT YOU JUST MADE. You won’t get credit for the round as a courtier unless you get lucky enough to find that last remaining villager or two to get credited with participation. It absolutely sucks. The only way to make sure you get credit for the round is to switch sides early to middle of the round after getting some points as a villager, so you have plenty of time to hunt as a courtier and get credit. Terrible, TERRIBLE game design.
That’s not right. You don’t lose the points you accrued by surviving as a villager. It’s just that if you just glitched yourself in some corner and don’t interact with anything else, you do not get enough points to reach top 10.
A simple way to ensure you meet that goal is to kill a ghost as villager. You can just find a scrub and bone/hammer him down for 20 points right away. If you dodged an attack or two while at it, each dodge will be at least 10 points. Ghosts self rally quickly, so you can farm one repeatedly if you can out maneuver him, and there are enough tools around.
The other difference between toughness and vitality that matters only to mesmers is that illusions inherit your toughness, but NOT your vitality. So adding toughness makes all your images last longer as well.
Carrion may make sense on other classes with a better mix of personal power damage, plenty of crit from traits/etc. (or easier access to fury), and/or non-crit-dependent methods of applying conditions. For mesmers, I don’t really see it; we don’t have regular fury or ‘natural’ crit traits, and condition application without Sharper Images is pretty woeful. The best I can imagine is a Staff/scepter/torch clone-death hybrid build, maybe 10/10/30/20/0 or something.
I tried clone death build. Zergging PvE events with sigil of stamina (refill endurance on kill). Can’t tag. Not worth it.
If they make one of the dissipation traits do some damage or at least consistently applying a damaging condition maybe it works. As it is now? No.
By zerging pve events, do you mean Champ farming in frostgorge??
I occasionally have problems tagging. I guess it just depends on how much health the npc has. Champions aren’t usually a problem.
Really I would like to see Anet implement dual specs like RIFT or WoW.
One for PvE, one for WvW—all at a push of a button and 5 minute cooldown.
No. with champ farms you need to use a single target build (or just autoattack with sword). I’m talking about mass aggro events. If you go on WvW and you want to tag you will also need quick aoe bursts on short cycles. Currently there isn’t a reliable way for mesmer to sustain this.
I’m going to test a new triple stab glamor build,
link?
Notes:
Veil can be swapped out for portal, or feedback if you want to be more greedy.
The calculator does not have dire stats (Condi-tuf-vit) which I think is ideal. Survivability can increase if you swap out runes of perplexity for runes of melandru and use -condi duration food rather than +condi duration. That frees you up one of your inspiration traits for focus trait.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
With the first WvW season coming in possibly next reset, hopefully fellow mesmers are ready to roll.
Personally I’m going to test a new triple stab glamor build, which will hopefully get me some bags while doing mesmerly stuff. How are other WvW oriented mesmers preparing for the season?

Actually there is a “direct contradiction” to that…
BG even as “the lightest of the top 3” can put out more than enough people to dominate any match with T2 opponents and when facing most of the potential T2 Gold League Servers there will be long stretches of time where “skillful havoc play for Stomps” simply isn’t possible because BG will have more Roamers on the Map (in addition to the Map Zerg) than total number of Opponents (sometimes from both Servers combined).
I personally think the problem is one of scaling – 3 PPS is too high/impactful but 1 PPS might be too low (honestly we don’t have any stats/metrics yet to know if the change is impactful to participation. The 3 T1 NA Servers haven’t faced each other in a Match since it went in. BG-JQ-TC is the closest we have to a match we can draw data from and I haven’t heard anything one way or another on relative action in the Ruins since it went live, especially since it also went in with PvE content which impacts WvW participation on those 3 Servers).
Personally I think they need to redo the entire Scoring/PPT System but two “simpler” changes I can see them making are:
1 – Increase the PPT Values of Camps and Yaks and restore 1/2/3 per Stomp (still makes it valuable but increases its impact)
2 – Make the progression 1/1/2 as that reduces overall impact but still makes owning all 3 valuable. What irks me the most though is there is one obvious change they should make but won’t which is people with Outnumbered shouldn’t contribute any Points when Stomped. That is where the problem with +3 PPS was “ugliest” for me – why should I go out and snipe or havok on BGBL when killing me is often worth as much or more for BG as anything I might earn through sniping Yaks? (and please don’t come back with “oh just take the Ruins” because in these situations BGBL is effectively on “lockdown”)
There is no direct contradiction. You have misread the situation entirely. There currently isn’t a mechanic that prevents complete blowouts. If you are unable to rally your server’s morale, then you do not deserve a win in the league. Period.
The top 3 servers has already matched with each other under the stomp for point system. It was the week before the current period. Check the match history website.
JQueue was the undisputed top server with full map coverage around the clock. Neither SoR nor BG can field that kind of coverage. However, for servers where the difference isn’t too large, the stomp for point system can make up for coverage differences. How big of a coverage difference this can mitigate depends on how many points you can get out of the mechanic.
TL:DR
In other words, if they want to decrease the gap between T1 and T2, they need to significantly boost the stomp for point mechanic. At the minimum, double the points right now, as well as introducing additional ways to further increase war score gain over a shorter period. TC, for example, is competitive during their peak time against the T1 servers. All they need is a way to capitalize on their play time and accumulate enough points to mitigate the effects of night capping, and they’ll have a very good shot at winning Gold league.
A mechanic that adds to PPT for the stronger side is still power creep. And I’m not convinced of the argument about the points on stomp benefitting the under-populated side.
There’s no need for arguments when facts fly in your face. BG is the lightest of the top three, and is only competitive now because of point on stomp.
If you have not actually try the mechanic, you are in no position to criticize it’s efficacy.
Terrible change. Stat boosts are still not yet removed, and why nerf the points on stomp? If anything they should double the points on stomp per stack of buff, and additionally introduce new food that give points on stomp to further increase strategic options. Not the other way around.
Anet is clearly encouraging stacking to the first server (not the first three). They should rename WvW to coverage wars.
Finally a nerf the candy thread. The GW2 community did not disappoint.
Well, in PvE boss events where bosses gets all condition put on them, the iWarlock can hit for 12000+ crits quite easily.
They should at least follow through with the change and make mantra of pain aoe as well, or at least make it deal direct damage to the target, and apply tormented to nearby targets. Then the change would’ve actually mattered.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
I prefer changes where additional effects are added to the charging action so that charging up a mantra also become a useful ability, kind of like how ele’s attunements can be augmented to become full abilities in and of themselves.
DPS shouldn’t really be an issue with the sparki and slick fight. There’s no damage spikes or other things that can screw with the group except the ooze. The way I usually tell pugs to do this, is to have them equip a ranged weapon, turn auto attack on sparki then ignore both bosses completely and just look for oils and the ooze.
Make sure people are not scattered around, because that’s usually what causes oil patches to go all over the place and behind people’s camera, causing wipes. After sparki goes down, have everyone stand inside the oil patches for the ooze. No one should be taking any damage at all at this point and you can auto attack slick down leisurely.
join TTS :P we do flawless defense runs daily.
If you want to organize it yourself, make sure there’s no more than 15 ppl per side defending turrets, let bone wall up and ignore tequatl, kill mobs until timer run out.
… we start investigating Thorn’s post-mortem life.
And hopefully, it’ll not be as predictable as the previous part.
The only way to make a true healer in GW2 is to continuously blast water fields. If you are doing it non-stop your damage will not be optimal. I don’t believe you need the healing power stat however.
I actually hope we get to continue the hunt to append and upgrade it to rare level this year, and in a couple more years to make it ascended.
It does kinda feel awkward. The thing about interrupting in gw2 is that you have to use a cc in order for the interrupt to occur, which means the target is likely going to be stunned or dazed for a couple seconds already. The immobilize is good against stun breaks, but the rest of it just doesn’t really matter. I’d rather it gives some bleed/burn/vuln, to make condi based interrupt builds better.
Necros can have 3s stability on 10s cd with 1 trait, cd can be lowered with another trait too.
IMO, more defenses is kinda lame. It’s not like it’s hard to survive as a mesmer. They should give us a trait that allows us to pulse pbaoe damage per second while charging mantra. So I can finally tag stuff properly in zergs. (Should go well the potential mantra changes too.)
(edited by Heinel.6548)
I was actually wondering about a new set of legendary weapons where the special effects are a cloud of pink butterflies flying around the character, kind of like the spell effect of gw1’s soothing images. I think it’d be cool
Mesmer cannot take advantage of condition damage without sharper images and high crit.
Why is this incredibly false statement still floating around in the Mesmer Community? Yes Sharper Images is amazing but we can take advantage of condition damage without it easily. Sharper Images is NOT A NECESSITY for a condition build to be damaging/viable/really hardcore awesome.
Show us.
Ok, just put together a build that pushes it a bit higher.
Full dire, 0/0/25/20/25, runes of scavenging, with orrian truffle soup. Same sigils and whatnot, all the trinkets were the ascended mix dire/rabid.
This pushes it to 3085 on gw2buildcraft, but I’m using a chryscolla jewel instead of a major sigil of bursting there, so it should get a bit higher.
Edit: For some reason the manual buffs didn’t link, so you have to go in and manually add 500 condition damage for guard leech, stacking sigil, and bloodlust buff.
So just as a reference, at 3000 condition damage, 5 stacks of bleed + 5 stacks of torment + burning = 3500 dps.
Mesmer cannot take advantage of condition damage without sharper images and high crit. This is not about tanking with staff and slowly drain ppl down. It’s a glassy condi spike build. The main damage source is your multi hit phantasm (20 hits from both in 1 cycle) to crit as much as possible to stack ~14+ bleeds (50base crit 20 phantasmal fury, triple the amount of your 5 stacks, and has practically no set up time compared to staff clone spam, and the cycle repeats every few seconds). If you add glamours you get an additional confusion source since both phantasm can also combo confusion (5-10 stacks), but that is a lot less consistent, and probably work better as a cover against removal.
I ran something like this in wvw before as well, and the warden is actually okay useful against blobs if you can put it near the ranged people. Most people can’t see it before the stacks are in and by the time they realize and kill it, they’re already bleeding to death. It doesn’t always works, but the build does give you a lot of interrupt for confuse as well as reflect potential. It’s hella squishy when you’re fighting against perma stealth thieves tho.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
Also note that projectiles in flight and reflected attacks will trigger revealed if it happens after you go in stealth. Winds of chaos, chaos storm, feedback, etc. can be offenders of this.
You can try to position yourself such that your clones will body block attacks for you, this works especially well at lower levels since they tend to be quite tough compared to mob attacks at that level. Just beware of cleaving or aoes.
Stomping for points is one of the few ways a server with less coverage can compete with 24/7 servers. If you think unbalanced match up is a high priority fix, you should be behind this change 100%.
I put this in the suggestions, but I think this idea fits more here.
I believe we should turn the Marjory’s Journal item into a historian for the Living Story and the short stories that are written on the site and not in game. These can be written descriptions, or (more preferably) cut scenes in which show the events of the short stories. This ties in to the fact that Marjory herself is a detective, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for such a renowned detective to have investigated the pasts of characters and events.
The thing about using Marjory, is that she isn’t actually a general detective. She actually has a personal quest that ties her strongly around the divinity’s reach political scene. Most of her energies are supposed to be spent there. While it’s alright for her to maybe have some data on say Scarlet, because Scarlet threatened the throne, it doesn’t make sense for her to start profiling people like Moto.
The way the story blog posts are written, they contain a lot of information that you are not supposed to have access to while in-character. As such, it does not make sense to disclose those information in game. As for the announced living story tracker, I’d suggest wait and see what they’re supposed to be put in there first before worrying about method of delivery. For all we know it could just be another tab in the UI with basic plotline summaries.
Liadri was fine. It was a boss without bad designs like defiant and unstoppable or whatever it is they’re called.
4- When attacking from stealth and the attack is missed/blocked, it should apply reveal and this goes to all classes
So much this. Skillfull blinding / blocking stealth attacks should counter stealth. Not the current risk free BS we have right now.
Prices will stabilize once profit from harvesting nodes exceed dungeon and champ farm profits. Stop panicking.
The burn from enraged Sparki is actually pretty annoying if your group is glassy I find.
On the other hand, the oil patches don’t really do damage to the party (the ticks are from the environmental effects). This means that if you have the entire party stack up in a tight ball and kite the ooze INSIDE the puddles, no one will get any damage. Very easy to do and you can do it even before Sparki’s dead (tho you’ll get burnt if the puddle has set alight).
allow other people to take the damage while i snipe from the back, which is insanely boring to me.
Why play a range class when you hate range? If you try to range as a guardian you’ll rage too. Reroll.
OP’s suggestion has a lot of value, but this seems more inclined to high population fights ONLY. Or did i just not read the whole kitten thing?
The thing is, there will be no such thing as “high population” as GW2 players understood it.
Think of it this way. Instead of guilds all belonging to one server, with the update, guilds will form an alliance. WvW become alliance battles. Some alliances will be huge, and likely fight in centralized areas, while other smaller groups do more guerrilla or occupy “outskirt” areas.
In GW2 it’s unlikely that they can put everyone in one map, so there will be different instances where these things take place. Ideally, they allow cooperation between people who do huge blobs and people who solo roam/small group (this should naturally occur as long as the system accomodates it. ie. choose your instance). Then everyone can contribute, and no one feels left out.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
I find the Tequatl patch’s non-tequatl objectives (running around a map clicking at things) to be boring.
I prefer TA’s approach to achievements. It would be nice if they add/change some NPCs in the grove because that place is empty, but that’s not a very high priority.
25 in illusions give you faster recharging phantasms, so it’s quite nice for phantasm builds as well.
I personally use a pistol focus condition build with rabid set. one volley from both phantasm is ~16 stacks of bleed, if you throw in a glamor at the same time you get some confuse stacks on as well, then shatter for more confuse. Fairly effective against mob packs, especially one with a veteran in it that you can lock on.
0/20/30/20/0 with a sceptor (debilitating dissipation, interupt stuff) or 0/20/0/20/30 with a sword (iPersona, shatter stuff)
Edit: Oh. I also use perplexity runes, so the pistol 5 and focus 4 are used to stack confusion as well.
(edited by Heinel.6548)
Pretty sure the reason the ooze is hostile is so people cannot cheese the encounter by simply piling aoes in the area to wipe the weak fire eles before they render. Stop using fire and forget skills and you’ll get it.
what if the real issue is warrior dps and guardian support? rather than people kicking multiple rangers and necros?
Or necros need to start looking at utility skills and not just spam staff 1?
Staff 1 isn’t even good enough to be spammed unless there are multiple mobs in a row. What makes you think they only spam that one?
Because they couldn’t handle ground targeting? I don’t want to know how those people operate.

Mesmer players learned early to exploit everything because they can’t even level up if they just spam 1. Other classes have it easy and can auto attack their way to lv 80, necros and rangers are in this category. That is why they get the bad reputation.

1) Have I considered checking group composition, do we have a good setup of classes etc or are we all full berserker, all dying, and wondering why?
2)Are we all using food buffs and ALSO weapon buffs AKA sharpening stones or weapon coatings etc etc from weaponcrafting skills or buy off TP
3) Have we strategized and thought about the fight in depth or am I doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results?
4) Is this content for me? – If you cant do it and it makes you SO mad, angry or whatever that you need to rage, maybe just ignore it and carry on doing what you were doing, after all there will be something new in 2 weeks which might be more acceptable.5)If all the devs do lately is releaseing hard annoying content that is not for me should i keep playing and supporting this game?
You could always try to vent your frustration by farming champs.
If champ trains are too difficult for you…. I… eh.. yeah, you should quit.
When I did Slick and Sparky with my pug there wasn’t much coordination. It took a couple wipes for us to clue in that the fumes effect the entire battlefield, not just its location. Then we just told whoever got the ooze pheromone to kite the ooze onto the oil. After slick’s dead sparky is just auto attack fodder.
I mean.. If you are actually looking at the screen, then you’ll know what to do. How can this be more easy? Or does everyone play while watching youtube now?
(edited by Heinel.6548)
2. Ooze:
If the ooze were allies this would be better. I understand that it’s part of the difficulty, but the oozes should be made allies, and then if needed nerf their hp. A lot of the traditional skills that many classes would bring here are absolutely useless. An ele cant do much to help the ooze if it’s near an elemental. If it was an ally we could slow the attackers with impunity, we could give it reflection, we could heal it, ETC. The same is true for other classes. Essentially, keeping it as an enemy limits class choice to… well, guardians and thieves, as they’re the ones who can place non-damaging reflect walls to safeguard the ooze.
I’m sort of on board with this… until you mentioned projectile walls as a counter argument. Ele has the best projectile wall (swirling winds). Maybe it’s time to use something other than staff and D/D?
(edited by Heinel.6548)
The oozes part is easier if:
1) you see that CC (pull push etc…conditions will still affect both) affects elemental but not oozes
2) you have one or more mesmers in partypeople need first to understand that they need a balanced team before entering a dungeon. People like to play one class but need to adapt to the need of the team
Yeah, I don’t think mesmers are needed either. Plenty other classes can aoe push/pull. And for classes that don’t have aoe pulls, they have long range single target pulls that will become handy at the last boss. What you need is players who actually play to their class’s strengths, instead of just spam 1.
