Honestly, I play Warrior, (power shatter) Mesmer, Thief and Necro in WvW roaming and my Mesmer feels like the most lacklustre of the bunch, but not by THAT much.

My primary complaint about mesmer itself lies with the length of all the cooldowns (weapons skills and utils) that always feel like just a little too long for what you’d like.

Shaving those down would probably go a long way already.

My primary complaint about other classes when I’m on my mesmer is Rangers (which are completely cow-doo-doo and everyone knows it) with their channeled lol-i-kill-you-in-stealth and engineers, who can just explode you in seconds while tanking 3 other guys.

I’d be happy if they just fixed some of the more irritating glitches.

(invis not applying, despite not being revealed , Phantasmal Berserker not summoning the phantasm if cast too quickly after weapon swap, same issue with Illusory Leap. Inconsistent teleport behaviour with ledges on WvW maps etc)

I’ve not been able to properly test another gripe, which is where during large WvW fights there appears to be latency between when you think you are in stealth and what the enemy sees, resulting in players and pets chasing you despite being invisible on your screen… which is kinda bad when that is literally your only survival mechanic.

Well if you’re not playing top tier, then I see nothing wrong with using a condition build. There is more than just PU you know… You can hold your own against most classes, and you can definitely destroy thieves when on condition Mesmer.

It simply means you have to play a different playstyle and won’t be bursting as much. It also gives you room for support type utilities like Null Field.

Condi mesmer is very strong, but in WvW at least; you can only kill people who are silly or very brave. Everyone else (who isn’t a necro) can just casually walk off into the sunset and there’s nothing you can do to stop them.

+1 Helecity. And Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, Most videos in WvW that i watch, I feel like “Dude do the players the OP face know how to play?” I always get that feeling.

In fairness it always looks like that. And also almost everyone goes “what the hell, let’s do this” from time to time… and pays the price.

The number of times I’ve gotten my face smooshed by a condi mesmer that I knew I should have left alone…

How viable is the power shatter in www roaming or spvp? I seem only to be able to kill bear bow ranger with it now a days ( could of crouse be due to lack of skill. Even with zerker burst dont seem to be high enough to take out other classes.

It is really viable, I can burst anyone down. The trouble comes from thieves and condis. If you don’t have a team and your teammates are maffcabbages and the opposing team has thief that has you all game, goodluck.

But if you have a team and they can peel for you the better. When I am playing solo, i do not take portal (laugh at me if you want) and take cleanse, other people in solo don’t even know how to utilize portals, so yeah.

It’s very viable, but you just have to accept the fact that every X minutes some thief or condi engi will come out of nowhere and wreck your face (and stacks!) and there’s little you can do about it without getting very lucky (i.e. they must be much, much worse at the game than you to lose)

I’m fairly confident that your problem is that you are not using your clones and phantasms to disguise your position correctly.

When I started playing my shatter mesmer in WvW I had this terrible habit of running away in straight lines while dodging; when you do this you are not making it difficult for the enemy to see which one is the real you.

And that is exactly where your survivability as a mesmer comes from.

No mesmer can really live through much direct pressure, you’re squishy as hell, the only way you can survive fights is by making it as difficult as possible for the enemy to hit the correct target.

This means you need to stay near your clones and phantasms and use stealths and decoys to break the enemy targeting, costing them valuable time as they try to find you.

You also want to double-back and reverse directions frequently to make things harder for the enemy.

I run a build that is almost identical to darkaheart’s.
Differences are;

-Dire armor not rabid
-I use mobile strikes over signet mastery, because the reduction it grants is very small and I’d rather have better slipperiness for kiting
-I have triple stunbreak utilities

I often have Stomp slotted due to the prevalence of roaming thieves in T1 WvW (and also because it’s a very fun skill really). If I see that I’m running into a bigger fight however, I swap it to endure pain instead.

Honestly, the only two things (as a WvW player) I really, truly, want are:

1) A more practical stability, either through trait or utility skill
2) less obnoxious cast times on several skills, like Daggers 3+5 and Sceptre 2

The former is probably not that hard the latter will likely have people worried, some folk believe that better cast times would make necromancers very OP, but the reality is it will just make them more playable.

It’s very hard to make a clutch play with dagger 3 when it (subjectively) appears to take 2 ice-ages to cast.

And the saddest part is that our damage isn’t even the best burst in the game. Warriors, mesmers, guardians (yep), necromancers, and elementalists actually have better burst throughput.

Except this is not true. Provided you’re not terrible at thief you can wear down defensive cooldowns of every other class with repeated bursts faster than they can come back up. The repeated Reset → Burst cycle of thief is greater than even a shatter mesmer’s

In addition (excepting some peculiar warrior builds) none of them can catch you; this means that unless you are very impatient and greedy the WORST you will do in a WvW fight is escape.

This is the reason why people have legitimate complaints about Thieves, the mix of truly impressive damage paired with resets and escape ability leads to intensely frustrating play experiences for the other player.

Try playing a necro for a while on a T1 WvW server and go roam, and you will swiftly learn why everyone hates Thieves.

I’m beginning to wonder if there is not some bizarre networking issue or something at hand.

Currently we (SFR) are fighting Elona and Jade Sea. It’s mostly ok, so long as Jade Sea are not fighting anything with their zerg.

The moment JS engage anything, including npcs like EB ogres it all lags to death.

I run a power/PU build with GS/S+T.
The way I “zerg” is running with the blob until they need a veil, I drop the veil for them, take it myself and then split off from the blob to go hunt Elementalists and other squishies on the outside of the fight. I also like to spend time snagging retreating people on low health and stealth stomping downed folks outside the fight to rally my friends.

It’s very reasonable for roaming, there are definitely counters to condibunker warriors though.

You will have a hard time against talented mesmers for example; it’s very difficult to get your big damage skills to actually connect with a PU mesmer that has a billion clones and a very reasonable chance of proccing Aegis with his skills.

But it’s all good, the important thing here is if:

a) the playstyle meshes with how you, personally, play
b) you find the style to be fun

You don’t have to be able to beat everything, and you’re mobile and durable enough to escape from relatively sticky situations.

I am aware there is no ascended armor or jewelry in this link (and Settlers jewelry currently is not available in pink varieties sadly).

My build pretty much has permanent fury, which REALLY helps with the condition application. Pin Down and Impale are the heaviest hitters here (15k+)

I previously used a Doom sigil on the bow to help suppress healing, but I realized I am too much of a baddy to really make use of that in a meaningful way.

You regenerate quite some health between signet and adrenal health, and the low cooldown on your Burst skills tends to be sufficient in dealing with condis.

I’m still messing around with it, but so far I’ve had a ton of fun.

You all do realize the heavy and medium armor are the same model with a bit of different textures, right?
The helmet is different, but just look at it. Its clearly the same model.

Yeah. I was wondering at that… I hope it’s a mistake and they’ll release the real female Phalanx armour instead.

Put them side to side on two tabs, and switch between them. They are not the same model at all, and that disgraceful cop-out is indeed female phalanx.

If you are letting a warrior use Vengeance you deserve to lose the stomp points.

Because that warrior is always alone. Stomping actually happens in small scale skirmish fights aswell.

Downed state is utterly unbalanced and one of the reasons why points for stomp is stupid. Some professions have better means to stay alive while downed, decreasing or even flat out eliminating the possibility to feed points. And some professions have a flat out better way of landing a stomp, increasing the chances of gaining points.

Funny enough, both lists from best to worst are kinda similar…

I agree that giving points for stomping when the downed states themselves are so imbalanced is a bad idea.

I would disagree that the classes that have the worst downed also have the worst stomping ability (if I interpreted what you wrote correctly).

Eng’s downed is bar none the WORST in the game. However elixir S is an AMAZING stomp tool… and soon eng’s will be even better at it when toss S only grants stealth and B will grant stability (hopefully the duration will be long enough) + a random boon.

Same thing with warrior… 2nd worst downed state in the game, but they can stomp pretty kitten well with stability, immunity to damage, quickness, etc.

But then you do have thieves, eles, and mesmers all of who have great downed stats and can stomp very well.

You think warrior downstate is worse than necro?

Something very weird just happened in eb that I think Anet should look into, Desolation were in the lord room of a t3 ogrewatch lord just went down and SFR had just finished capping kodash keep, it was clear they wouldn’t make it in time and all of a sudden the map crashed for all 3 servers, this may be a coincidence but it was a very weird one if so seems as when we returned the t3 tower had been fully repaired by SFR…

Servers are crashing left and right from what I’m hearing.

That is exactly what I was referring to. The damage is what is multiplied not the actual time. The time is constant and unchanging. It is 15 seconds, no more no less. Which is what I said specifically there is a destinction between the two.

Far to many people no longer use the term DPS correctly anymore. Infact one chap earlier claimed he did 50k DPS. Not spike damage, or burst, but 50k DPS.

You’re nitpicking and arguing semantics. The point remains that rezzing your dead behind is wasteful and risky, and nobody should do it. Walk the kitten back.

I think we’ve determined the problem here.

Tbh I was in the canons then i was in front lines, dodging, etc, I even gave up at one point as to how so many were dead and i went for the jump achievement in the waves (awesome), and the dodge the tail attack. Meanwhile people were pestering about me ressing them, I tried but i got down to 90% myself because everyone else was either dead, on their way to death, or whining, or those cond puddles and fingers… I just gave up and went for the achievements..

I was making a joke, I’m glad you took it well

Let’s not even discuss the wonderful sequence of events that is this:

1) break bonewall
2) can’t see kitten because of bonewall dust
3) get hit by wave which you could not see in dust
4) wave bounces you through 3 poison fields

Seriously though, the math is correct.

wasting the active time of five people for 15s is indeed 75s of wasted dps/active time
Which is wasteful compared to just running back, without even considering the risk of the rezzers getting downed because of the AoE spam.

There is nothing awesome about unplayable lag, unavoidable damage due to shockwave damage hitting you before the animation, being swarmed by uninteresting trashmobs (that can do ridiculous amount of damage with untelegraphed attacks) and being open to trolling from people hogging the turrets.

SFR wont last long when they have to fight a server with equal numbers I can already foresee them coming third in every match up soon.

Servers with only a numerical advantage never last long against servers with equal numbers as they get used to having easy wins without the enemy being able to mount offensives.

That’s funny, because we consistently beat same sized blobs in the field. Ask Viz how they fare when it’s map blob vs. map blob in the field.

Anyways, this whining is tedious as all hell, it’s like in EVE online, whenever you lose you just cry “waaah blob” no matter what the actual numbers.

Remember boys and girls: Blobbing is never ok unless it’s you doing it, in which case it’s not blobbing.

It works well enough paired with a longbow as the swap weapon. I’ll typically shoot them a few times with the auto attack to stack a few bleeds and get rid of aegis if it’s a guardian, and try to force a dodge with fan of fire, then pin down and swap to the swords, savage leap, immediately followed by riposte because they’ll try to attack you at that point. With me they’re usually below half health at this point so then follow up with final thrust, swap back to bow and drop combustive shot on them, follow up with a stomp, then bulls charge the second they stand up, pin down, swap back to swords again (which has sigil of hydromancy on one of them so I try to do this up close so I chill them). Riposte when necessary, fear me to stop their heal, then impale them and it’s over. Then I just sit and watch them die and i’ll impale them again as they try to rally. I rarely even bother to spike anyone anymore. just watch the conditions tick away at them.

Longbow is indeed the right companion for S/S imho. Also, stick a Doom sigil in it for the poison.

I don’t run charge though, I use Balanced stance + Dolyak + Stomp.

If you get some pain on em with the bow, then savage leap into flurry followed seamlessly by stomp you have a good chance to down them then and there. It’s pretty fun to play!

Healing signet alone is… ok-ish.
It only becomes truly interesting when paired with adrenal healing and possibly some +healing gear and as much toughness as you can (signet scales like doo doo, adrenal healing scales pretty decently)

That’s correct. It only works that way in theory, not in practice, and neither of us is going to budge.

Neither of us is going to budge, but one of us has numbers in favor of his argument (that would be me) and the other has only “I belieeeve”

Basically, you’re demonstrably wrong and you’re stubborn to top that off.

Oddly, those two things often go together.

Ten months later and I’m still not buying what you’re selling. You want them, not need them. The stat bonus gives such a slight advantage in a limited set of circumstances that it’s irrelevant, even in WvWvW play.

It would be fine if in WvW they were scaled down to Exotic, or if WvW had it’s own path to obtain them.

They do their own path. The materials required can all be found in the WvW zones, whereas PvE players have to chase after several different activities to pursue the 3 materials tracks.

Its surprisingly elegant.

Ok, tell me how to level up 3 crafting professions in WvW then? And before you give a quick answer, consider the availability of lower tier crafting materials in WvW.

Ascended is like Legendary, nice to have but you do not in any way, shape or form NEED them. If you want them, there is a clearly defined way to get them. Do the work necessary or do without them.

I don’t see how people can not get this. It’s so simple and fundamental. I almost wish Anet would come out and say this.

Except that for WvW this is patently false.

You will be at a measurable disadvantage to people who do get them (likely primary pve players, not primary wvw players)

Thus you DO need them in order to be competitive.

It would be fine if in WvW they were scaled down to Exotic, or if WvW had it’s own path to obtain them.

I realize most PvE players do not “get” this but the point is this:

It does NOT affect your PvE experience if WvW players get something easily and then go PvE, but it DOES affect our WvW experience if PvE players get ascended weapons and then come play WvW.
