I run windows 8, and the game runs better for me there than in windows 7 (I get an extra 2-4fps). I don’t think your problem is related to the OS.
Try running the game with the -repair option and see if that fixes the issue.
[Devquote included] Dungeon Gear Token Costs (Aka, whatever happened to anti-grind philosophy?)
Posted by: Hickeroar.9734
Black Lion Key would be an awesome dungeon reward.
Also, dungeon sets cost too much and are a massive grind. It is the most grindy thing this game has to offer.
THIS! THIS! THIS!
Honestly if they did this, I wouldn’t complain about ANYTHING they did in the dungeons. I have 30 of the things sitting in the bank with no way to open them. There’s no way I’m going to pay what it would cost in real $$ to open a virtual chest with questionable rewards inside. I have gotten two of the keys in the game, and one key out of one of the chests, so I’ve opened 3/30 chests.
I’m not sure what AN was trying to portray here…
I think, after seeing a lot of complaints, that if the dungeons scaled to the players and the gear levels that the players had on, the whole problem would be solved. If a well geared group goes in, it should still be very hard for them. If a group with all blues and greens go in there, they should be able to actually complete it without going bat-doo-doo insane.
I’ve read that they were SUPPOSED to scale, but don’t seem to from my experiences, and the experiences of others.
Given the auto-scaling abilities of this game, it seems that this should work better.
Apologizies…it was two events. Had a champion something or other show up outside a WP once.
Sorry bud, but taking a grind-fest for gear, and making it a grind-grind-grind-fest for gear is not changing the game from “traditional” MMOs. Their reasoning for the dungeon changes was to keep players from grinding.
I want to know in WHAT WORLD that makes sense. When i read that I was like….are you KIDDING me? Who in the world even THOUGHT of that logic?? It’s a complete mental break.
They made the dungeons harder, and the rewards worse. That means MORE grinding, or just giving up…which I suppose stops the grinding from one point of view.
Come up with an MMO design that keeps people playing and doesn’t involve grinding and come back. I’m all ears.
Yeah it’s a grind, but people are approaching it in the wrong way…you’re not getting me here. Their changes today even spelled it out for us. You’re supposed to change it up on a daily basis. Play around with all that the game has and eventually you’ll get what you deserve. Spamming “LFG CoF speed run” is only going to get you a set of gear that makes you look like all the other scrubs in 3 days time…and burnout to follow because you have nothing else to work for.
This would make sense, except there really isn’t a way to change it up once you hit 80. the LVL 80 zone is either completely broken, or there just aren’t any events there. That is super….lame. I have spent many hours there already, and only run across ONE. SINGLE. SOLITARY. event. In a dynamic, event driven game, how in the world do you have your highest level zone contain almost NO events?
It’s also a major pain to get anywhere because there are undead by the droves just standing around, and you end up having a massive hoard of them following you any time you just try to run down the road….?
Even that one event became a massive zerg-fest because so many players showed up at the prospect of an event, that enemies died as soon as they spawned, and the framerate went to complete pot.
You can go back to the slightly lower level zones, but they suffer from almost the same thing. There are more events, but many of them are extremely broken and can’t be completed.
It’s not our job or out obligation to say what the majority and the minority are supposed to do. I’m just getting tired of everyone evaluating MMOs as if they were the owners of the company or something. The developers will decide for themselves who they want to listen to. If they want to listen to the minority of their players, so sure as hell have the right to.
The developers usually do whatever turns a profit and profit for GW2 at this point is keeping player interest (and generally happyiness) high for future content and buying gems.
They definitely made a wrong turn here.
My biggest worry here is that GW2 has a questionable “endgame” to keep players interested as it stands. Killing the enjoy-ability of the little bit that it DID have, is probably a bad idea…
If you check your HDD light as this is happening, it may be churning. This happens (occasionally) when I’m running through some of the more “complex” areas of Lions Arch. I think it’s just failing to realize where you’re going, and loading the models and textures for the NPCs at the last second.
Last night I walked right up to the banker in LA, and couldn’t see it for about 10 seconds, but was able to interact with it, lol. HDD was reading like crazy.
This patch didn’t introduce any performance fixes. It was just for content fixes and tweaks. Your performance issues weren’t fixed by the patch.

Holy crud. Reading this thread has made me so ashamed of the current generation of game players. The entire point of playing video games has been lost on everyone, most likely thanks to World of Warcraft. I guarantee everyone complaining about these changes has at one time played and enjoyed a game like WoW, or similar to it (I.E. everquest/Rift) in the way there are gear treadmills.
The point of playing a video game, is to have FUN. Doing these dungeons should be fun, if you don’t find them fun, don’t do it. You guys are forcing yourselves to do something because you want a reward, but you don’t find it fun. It’s insanity, nearly. I personally find these dungeons to be a blast, which is why I run them. The fact that I will eventually get gear I like from them, is just a bonus. I want them to be difficult, that makes it more fun.
If you guys are seriously running these dungeons for any reason besides finding them fun, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.
You fail to see the point. They were having fun in the dungeons. Their fun has been ruined.
The events in the high-level areas are almost all bugged to complete brokenness at the moment. There is almost NO fun to be had in the LVL 80 area. Hardly any events at all (and the ones that do happen are mostly completely broken or hung at the moment), skillpoints are bugged to heck and back (I still can’t complete 75-80, and lvl 80 zones), and everyone just standing around farming random mobs. It’s idiocy, and it’s completely boring.
I don’t care what world you live in…that is NOT fun.
So AN kills off one aspect of the game that everyone found fun….and they’re left with what? TOR? I sure hope not.
Deleted…logical fallacy in my argument. Doh.
26 hours of running the SAME dungeon (whether its 1,2,or3 part), is the limit players are willing to repeat the same dungeon.
As a DEV, you need to understand that.
QFT.
So glad I saw this. I was going to complete it tonight. :-O
I’m not worried about dungeons being hard. I like them hard. I like that sense of accomplishment after finishing something truly challenging.
What I don’t like is the nerfing of rewards and XP for completing a dungeon multiple times.
That’s insanity.

To ArenaNet:
STOP messing with game dynamics once you’ve set them in motion. If it’s not a bug, or seriously hampering the playing of some players, leave. it. alone.
This is exactly how you tick off your player base.
The changes to the dungeons are pure idiocy. Not sure what dimwit came up with these ideas…
Instead of making them LESS like a grind, all they’ve done is make them MORE like a grind. Grind = playing the same thing over and over for very little reward.
Logic fail.
The issue isn’t with any certain set of hardware, as far as I can tell. The problem is that the game is running, using only 60% of both CPU and GPU, or less. There’s a massive amount of potential that is just being missed.
This is a software issue with the game, not an issue with the drivers, or hardware itself. The reason different graphics drivers give different FPS results is that the GPU is just working better with its under-utilization using some drivers than other drivers.
This happened intermittently for me as well. It seems to be behaving better over the past two days, but started sometime last week.
Worried, would this desktop be able to run GW2?

I already had a case and hd/cd drives.
I got a midrange CPU (AMD FX-4100 oc’d to 4.0Ghz), 8gb of ram, and motherboard, for less than $200 and a Radeon HD 7870 for $220 (sale) on newegg. I finished it off with a 700W Corsair PSU which was $70 at bestbuy.
Building a “Decent” pc is generally quite a bit cheaper than buying an equivalent one from any company.
Nvidia Inspector really does help with FPS for me

You must know best bro. ;-)
He’s not kidding. Overvolting your GPU does absolutely nothing for performance. Repeatedly saying you did the impossible doesn’t make it any more possible.
If you overvolted AND overclocked….possibly, or overclocked, and didn’t overvolt, possibly. Overvolting is just putting more juice through the GPU and generating more heat. It is simply not possible to get greater performance by overvolting alone.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
Well, it’s easy to see that it’s not an underpowered PC, when you have a good PC and your CPU and GPU utilization are sitting under 60%.
There’s definitely a software issue on the game’s part.

Yeah, the mouse lag is pretty bad in this game. I never use vsync. All my other games seem very responsive in comparison.
I’m sure stuff like that will be ironed out in time, but it’s pretty low on the priorities, I’m sure.
I’d personally be happy to let them keep the technical issues for the moment if they can actually get all the events, skill points, and other world attributes unbugged.
Are there servers in Australia, or are you connecting to an EU/US server?
Lots and lots of people are having this issue. It’s definitely not getting any better for most of us with patches, and I highly doubt it has anything to do with the page file… HDD isn’t reading.
I have this issue intermittently. 7870, latest drivers, windows 7 and windows 8. Has only happened a couple times. Usually everything is fine.
Sometimes the false information thrown around by people who think they know what they’re talking about scares the ever-loving daylights out of me. And yes, I’m talking about every one of the posters in this thread…
Hi guys.
I had this problem, i use to crash like every 30 mim of game.
Actually the problem is fixed for me, here is what i did:
Did a full format using a program that completely erases my hd. changed for a 64bit system.
Really simple, but worked for me…
For the record, no point in a program that “completely erases my hd.” A simple quick format would be sufficient.
Haha, it does happen, but fortunately it’s not that common, at least for me. It’s weird the effect is has on your brain though. It’s completely disorienting.
It usually happens once, if that, every time I have a playing session.
I’ve read you can get around this by disabling User Account Control (UAC) or running the game as an administrator.
Video Settings in game lets you change your UI scale… How did you miss this?
“Those things take way too much space even though I have set interface size to smallest possible.”
Because I didn’t miss it if you just can check my first post again or the quote above.. Now I could ask you the same question
LOL @ this exchange….
Honestly though, if you’re running at 1024×768, I would suggest that you just upgrade your PC a bit. Even with the UI scaled all the way down, the game really just isn’t meant to be played at a resolution that low, regardless of the fact that they “technically” support it. People have been using higher resolutions for gaming than that for over 10 years now.

In-depth Intel ownage. http://techreport.com/review/23246/inside-the-second-gaming-performance-with-today-cpus
Yeah, pretty much everyone knows Intel “owns” AMD at the moment. The bulldozer (FX) architecture was supposed to make it a contender again, but it ended up making it compete with i3’s and sometimes i5’s. AMD just screwed up in a big way with the bulldozer architecture.
The biggest benefit behind buying AMD right now is performance per dollar. Hopefully the next generation of AMD CPU’s finally get it right. They make a decent CPU for the mid-range market, but they can’t touch the high-end intels at the moment. To be fair, you’re literally going to pay 3-5x as much for the high end intel stuff…
(I run an FX-4100 OC’d to 4.0Ghz at the moment)
Hickeroar I reported some spam mails I got last night, theres a little exclamation mark icon that let me do so in the mail window.
DOH! I musta missed that. Thanks.
If you have an ATI card, you can force-enable this in the catalyst settings…
I wouldn’t mind the ability to report gold spam mails. It’s easy to report them in chat, but you can’t report a mail you recieved.

You can’t compare an i5 to a phenom 2 at the same Ghz. The i5 is a full generation later and works a completely different, better way. If you want an apt comparison, get a Core 2 Duo and OC it to 4Ghz, then compare it to your old CPU. Those two were in the same generation. The Mhz myth is LONG busted.
As of last night, my framerate in LA was still abysmal, but once I got out in the world I was scoring 40-50 in combat, and 50-80 out of combat. Definitely playable, even if there are still issues going on….
Just bought the game because I read the system requirements. I got 5fps using core2 quad (2.40GHz) and nvidia GTX 260. game is unplayable at this point.
You have a CPU and a GPU from 4 generations of PC hardware ago, and you’re complaining? Give me a break. I built a PC like that several years ago…
What kind of hardware do i need to have in order to have 30 fps in heat of battle in WvW?

This is a common problem. They are working on it.
The solution to unreasonably low system utilization and performance isn’t to just turn stuff down in the game. There is something wrong with the game on some people’s systems that is keeping it from running properly. The solution is for the dev team at ArenaNet to fix the bug(s), which they are currently working on.
Also, I’ve seen the game with everything turned all the way down. It looks absolutely deplorable.
Can we get an update from an mod or something? I would like to try Win8, but I want to get you guys a profile before I wipe out my Win7 installation.
Are you running beta drivers at the moment? Or overclocking your GPU/Main memory?

Chances are GW2 is just “pushing the right button,” so to speak, and highlighting a problem you’ve had for a long time.
I’ve been around game launches long enough to know that the claims of “THIS GAME BROKE MY PC!” come with every new release, and they’re all well and truly rubbish.
Given that kind of behavior, I would first make sure all my drivers, as well as windows itself was up to date. If this wasn’t the case, I’d format the machine in every case. Yes, it’s a sledge, but when you’re dealing with BSOD’s there’s really not much else to say, other than that if you’re overclocking, try the game without overclocking and see if that’s the problem. (obviously no one want’s to give up that extra clock speed, but if it’s causing issues…it’s causing issues.)
I hope this is the right forum for this, but I’m just wondering what success people have had running GW2 under the Windows 8 release preview.
I’ve been having the typical performance issues that many have, and I would like to see if Windows 8 seems to suffer from the same thing, but I don’t want to try it unless others are actually having success with it.

BSOD’s are generally a driver issue. It would take some very special circumstances for a piece of software itself to cause a BSOD.
Given memory or drivers, I’d blame drivers every time.
Could also be your CPU if it’s either flawed, overheating, or you’re overclocking it. (same with GPU).
Rest assured that it’s not GW2 that’s breaking your computer in this way…
If you’re getting that kind of performance in WvW, count yourself lucky. There are tons of users with better systems than yours getting much worse performance. Give it a month and I think your performance will naturally get better as AN optimizes the game (there are some issues with it right now).
What should i upgrade ? (maybe an ArenaNet official could help me out)

Your video card is not terrible. The CPU would be my target if I were you. That one is several years old now, and I don’t even think you can buy them anymore. You will probably have to upgrade your motherboard at the same time…

A lot of people are dealing with the same thing at the moment. If you look, you’ll probably see that your CPU and GPU utilization are both well under 100%, so there definitely seems to be something wrong with the game itself.
