Oficial RP servers. How hard is to make?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There are no plans to flag a World as an official role-play Word. The amount of customer support overhead involved in enforcing RP names, in-character chat, etc., not to mention creating policies and rules governing RP, is a massive undertaking. We would prefer that community members self-organize.

A great way to ‘cop out’ of taking any responsibility ! But hey fair enough, if thats the case give RPers a server of their own, at least then they can all play together and it will be easier for them to police the actions of people spoiling the RP theme !

RPers have a server of their own… It’s community decided, and community “managed.” Slapping an RP tag in the title wouldn’t make it any more or less THE quintessential GW2 RP server.

If you don’t like it, don’t play it. Stop filling the forums with your rants. If they’re going to improve the things you want improved, it’s not going to be within the lifetime of this thread.

Post your suggestions in the suggestions forum, in a constructive way, or don’t bother. The ranting and complaining is really getting old.

The good things thread

What I’ve found is that it’s a mob mentality in the forums. By the end of reading the forums for a while, I can end up really ticked off at ANet for whatever laundry list of things people have been whining about.

Then I actually fire up the game, play for an hour, and the bliss returns. Yeah there are issues, but this game is FRACKING FUN! Once I realized this was happening, I can now rise above the forum ranting and remember that once I actually play the game, I have an absolute blast doing it.

So, my “good things” are:

The environments are so rich and beautiful (with the possible exception of Orr, which is a tad repetitive and depressing).

The automatic social aspect of the game is….amazing. When i used to play WoW, it was like…OH MAN SOMEONE IS ACTUALLY PLAYING THROUGH THIS CONTENT WITH ME INSTEAD OF TRYING TO STEAL ALL MY STUFF! Now it’s totally commonplace for random groups of 2-5 to just appear out of nowhere from fellow players joining up with you, and then disintegrate after a few minutes when you’re all done doing whatever you were doing.

The Lore and RP. The game begs for RP and makes it easy to get into character. Every race has a history that is very easy to pick up on and learn, even if you didn’t play GW1.

No level grind. You can get to lvl 79-80 pretty much just as fast as you got from lvl 15-16. Leveling is mostly linear, and it doesn’t take a very long time to do. It seems that it’s mainly there so you “must” explore the content on your way to 80. New characters in other MMOs have traditionally taken months to get to the level cap, and it turns into a real grind by the time it’s done.

The guild system is freaking brilliant. Why didn’t anyone think of this before? Multiple guilds only make sense! (sorry if this is a carryover from another game, but it’s new to me.)

Guesting into the personal instances is great.

The way the classes are set up, so you can succeed using any particular class, is great. Once you learn the play style of your class, they’re very balanced.

I was RP-exploring with a few RL friends last night on TC, and another player that none of us knew just RP’d right into our group and ended up hanging around with our characters for around an hour. I love how TC might be an unofficial server, but so many people take it so seriously, and act on it in the game all the time.

Hickeroar.9734

Yeah, i found all three of the Orrian areas to be the least inspired/inspiring of the whole game. The mobs are just evenly spaced across all the terrain, there’s only one KIND of mob (undead), and the events seem to be more rare here than any other zone.

The terrain itself is just sort of “blah” and completely inartistic and non-beautiful, unlike the way the rest of the game is.

After 100 hours getting to lvl 70, i honestly expected more when I got to “home plate” so to speak.

Are spirits as bad as people say they are?

in Ranger

Hickeroar.9734

I have added the trait to double spirit health and I drop them constantly in dungeons. Their cooldown is the same length as their life, so if they do survive, which they do most of the time if you place them properly, you can re-drop them the second they expire.

The range could definitely use a boost, but I mainly drop them for MY benefit because of the short range, and anyone else who happens to be near me gets the buff of course. I use the burning/damage/protection spirits.

It’s also worth noting that spirits CAN be healed with any AOE healing spell.

Really? Where are the zombies in Fireheart Rise? How about the Dredgehaunt Cliffs? Iron Marches? Well I suppose there are some ghosts in the Iron Marches in the very corner of the map.

Theres a lot of content that has no zombies in it. Im also yet to see anything like a vampire. Really, your making it sound like there is nothing but zombies.

Well, once you hit lvl 70, there is DEFINITELY nothing but zombies.

Zombie charr, human, asura, norn.
Zombie sharks.
Zombie Quaggan.
Zombie. Freaking. Rock. Monsters.
Zombie electricity……?
Zombie 50 foot tall giants.
Zombie drakes.
Zombie grawl.
Zombie turtles.
Zombie hylek.
Zombie human gods.
Zombie pirates.
Zombie spirit weapons.
Zombie zombies? Yup…zombie fracking GHOSTS running around.

How does an undead ghost come back as an undead zombie ghost? WHAT THE…!??!!

It’s not even bordering on overkill in those zones. It overkilled overkill.

Yeah, unfortunately a bank slot is $7.50 real dollars, or about one and a half gold if you convert. Not bad if you have worked up a good steady stream of income from something, but the real money cost is way too steep.

If they were 300 gems, i would have bought two already, instead I have bought none. Fail in Anet’s part with the pricing of everything in the store, imho. It’s all very expensive with an unbalanced payoff.

GW2 is Fun-Centric, not Reward-Centric

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

I’ll admit I’ve had a lot of moments of frustration due to the relative lack of “rewards” and “gold” compared to games like WoW. Then I have to remember that I invested thousands of hours in games like Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament back in the early 00’s…and those games had NO concept of a reward other than success, or failure.

What it is, is a rewiring process. I’m getting to where I “get it,” but all these modern MMOs have basically programmed all of us to “Do A” and “Expect B in return.” The “need” for gold or gear to have fun in the game is actually minimal or non existent. Granted, i think the repair and waypoint costs are about 3-5x what they should be, but overall, I think the balance of income vs spending is not too far off.

Once you get out of the “got to get ahead” mindset, it all makes sense. It’s just very hard to escape that mindset after being programmed for a decade.

What I ended up doing is just running two zones simultaneously from then on out. I would find at least one other zone that was in the same level range, and run them both. That usually got me enough to get through.

What am I supposed to be doing to make money?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

I know this sounds silly, but the best way to make money is to not spend it.

In a couple hours I usually make 50s. It’s not a lot, but I don’t need much to keep going. I also check for buyers on any Greens+ in the trading post. There are a lot of things that are no-effort money makers because people have put in orders for stuff. You can just sell it with a click of a button and make profits.

Unidentified dyes, for instance, sell right away for a hair under 6s each. I get a couple of these a day.

The only stuff I’ve spent any money on so far is a set of lvl 80 gear and weapons when I hit the cap, but I had 7G to spend (spent 6) from saving the entire level process. I got all rares, and and a couple exotic weapons.

For the record: Most of the exotic gear and weapons all provide basically the same thing with different looks. The bow I have was the cheapest lvl 80 exotic bow, but it has the same stat boosts as some of the mid priced and high priced exotics. Granted some of them (The Lover, etc) are needed for legendary crafting, but some of the ones that people buy simply for looks are going for over 20g, while mine is sitting at 2g with the same stat boosts.

I feel like Downlevelling overdoes it

in Players Helping Players

So does this mean that being level 80 and using the best level 80 gear will not make, say, a level 35 explore-mode dungeon easier than it would have been at level 35? Only that you would have more ‘options’?

Not exactly. The stats from the gear still affect your ability to deal damage at that level. So if you have a piece of gear that add 50+ power, you are effectively adding 50+ power to your attacks at that level.

Obviously you get your better signets as well.

I think it is possible, following this theory, that the Pale Tree is not an Elder Dragon but a dragon champion. She wields some of the power of the final dragon, just as Glint did for Kralkatorrik. As we know, she was born from the seed planted by Ronan and Ventari, which again points to her being a piece of the dragon’s magic, and not the dragon itself.

Or she could just be a seed that was planted and grew into a tree.

Sure, a magical, talking tree. But a tree nonetheless.

Well the Seed was a magical seed. I don’t quite remember how the story goes, whether it was Ronan or Ventari, but they found a magical Seed in Elona from a mysterious place. That might give us a lead to what the Pale Tree really is

Ronin, a soldier, finds the seed in a cave. He returns home to find his entire family dead and his home destroyed. He swears off fighting for forever, and plants the pale seed in memoriam. The tree grows for something like 200 years, and Sylvari start to emerge.

Hickeroar.9734

Sylvari are absolutely immune to corruption by the Dragons. Where other races can be weakened and corrupted, Sylvari simply die.

In support of Illushia:

I think the assertion that the pale tree is a dragon makes no sense at all in the context of the story. It’s an interesting theory to think about, but easily discount-able when you look at the very nature of the dragons in comparison to the tree(s) and Sylvari. The tree GIVES life and there are confirmed more than one of them. The dragons take or destroy life, there are definitely more than one of them.

I think a better theory, especially given that the Sylvari’s primary goal in existence is to destroy the dragons, is that in nature and magic’s attempt to balance the world, the Pale tree(s) and Sylvari were created as an opposing force to the existence of the dragons, evil, et al. They represent completely polar opposite concepts.

Even if nature and magic had no “intent” in the matter, the Trees and Sylvari still represent a completely opposing force. The fight to kill Zhaitan is even led BY A SYLVARI. That seems a little…self defeating, if the Sylvari were actually meant to represent a dragon.

I can see how the story could weave them even into having a common origin, but that certainly doesn’t support the ludicrous idea of the Pale Tree being a dragon. Dragons are dragons. The pale tree is….just not.

The fact that the Sylvari are completely immune to corruption probably helps my alternative theory as well…

Let me be the first to say that if you’re getting a new “setup,” a laptop is not your best option. Build yourself a gaming desktop. Not only will you be able to UPGRADE it, but you will also spend about half (or less) of what you’d spend on a comparable laptop.

If you must buy a laptop, regardless of people’s opinions, they’re all pretty much the same at the end of the day. The same specs will get you the same performance almost across the board.

Make sure if you get a laptop that you google “disable parked cores” and disable any parked cores that your laptop might have.
