Yeah, it’s really good for DPS, but far worse for survivability. On my ranger, the greatsword is good for taking on 1-2 mobs, but more than that and I’m toasted.

With my shortbow I can take on 5-7 risen in Orr and often survive with full health.

I am nearly to lvl 80 (72) on a guardian I rolled, and I am going 100% support with him. I should be 80 by end-of-weekend.

I’ve already pre-purchased an entire set of exotic armor, weapons, and trinkets for him at lvl 80 which have healing power boost on everything, and I’ve been practicing support stuff in dungeons for the last 30 levels or so. I am loving it.

Right now I’ve completely filled up the +heal and +boon duration trees and picked a few things in there. I just started on the toughness one for the last 10 points.

The thing is, I don’t know if this is the right direction if I eventually plan on doing higher level fractals with him.

Can someone offer a good support fractal build or at least offer some suggestions?

Yes, transmutation stones I can understand but wasting $20 on 25 keys is just a waste. I speak from personal previous experience.

Yeah, if they sold them on sale in smaller chunks I’d spend a couple bucks, but I’m not about to shell out a whole $20 for what will inevitably be useless to me.

Don’t care about the Black lion keys though. You have to buy them in freaking $20 chunks in order to get the deal. That’s just dumb. I don’t want 25 of them. I want 5. If that.

Don’t quote me on this, but I don’t think there are any that are power + prec/crit.

All the gear I’ve seen so far is power/toughness/condition damage or something pretty similar to that. Seems to be the norm.

All of those models are pretty awful…

For the record, precursors don’t go for 2-300 gold anymore. I think the most expensive one on the TP is around 180g.

its a question of keeping most players “in” the game.

that fractal kitten is to keep the “hardcore, elitist, play too much, addict” type players well sucked in a downward spiral that keeps the game on a buzz.

is it healthy? no.
good for long term business? we ll see how sick and masochist people really are.

there are a couple real problems with this philosophy.

1) the hardcore types are going to jump ship as soon as the next new game comes out. its not even a matter of ‘might.’ they left whatever game they were playing when gw2 came out to come here, and they will do when the next big thing arrives. Then you will be left with a game made for hardcore players, but no hardcore players to play it.

2) item tread mill games fail the vast majority of the time. WoW is an anomaly. If you take wow off the table and look at the rest of the item treadmill games released since 2004, you will see an astronomical failure rate. That is the reason most gaming companies consider MMO games too big of a risk to invest in.

1) I left WoW after playing it for more than three years. There were plenty of “next new games” in there that I did not jump ship for.

2) There are also tons of cases of very successful MMOs out there, many of which are F2P.

I’ve found in my experience that anything with a “magical” component usually succeeds against these things, but standard physical attacks often fail.

Could be my imagination though…

I would LOVE a huge selection of town clothes. I RP constantly, and the ability to easily change into a lot of different (realistic) clothing sets would be fantastic. I’d probably go broke if they added this…

On another note, I don’t think the BLTC isn’t paying off. I’ve spent more than $60 in the shop since the game launched… My guild is full of players that have spent far more than that. One of our players has 14 (read: fourteen) unlocked character slots.

I initially swore I’d never spend a dime in the shop. I quickly recanted that.

I definitely appreciate the need for this feature. I’m not gonna get all gripey about it, but I would run a TON more dungeons than I do if such a thing existed.

It’s just a little bit of a pain to find dungeon groups sometimes.

Yeah, the fractals dungeons are some of the best I’ve played in any game. Some of the original dungeons had me a little worried that ANet didn’t really “get” how to do dungeons, but the fractals have alleviated any fears I had. They are absolutely perfect. A great combination of fun and challenge.

This whole event has got me so excited about the future of this game. ANet got off to somewhat of a rough start in GW2, but what a way to prove they really have it in them…

The loot was just a mind boggling bonus at the end. Woulda been happy just with the experience of the whole thing.

Yeah, yaknow, we all have gripes of one kind or another, but I think overall the game is unbelievably fantastic. The ANet bashing that goes on here is just a small chunk of a huge player population who largely adores this game.

WTG ANet. Keep up the good work. I have never found a game that fixates in the way GW2 does. I’m glad to announce it as the best game I’ve ever played.

I would LOVE to be able to duel. The RP implications are fantastic.

The useless #4 skill irritated the heck out of me before. The change was most welcome and absolutely needed. Thanks ANet.

One time events are really unfair to the entire working world. This one was smack in the middle of the work day for the entire continent, and I’m kinda bummed I had to miss it as a result. It would not have killed them to do this last night or tonight instead…

Surprisingly, in-game majority accept the ascended gears.
I’ve not heard a single player complaint about it in map chat the whole day today. I see many great anticipation in Lion Arch and Cursed Shore of players talking good about it.

I haven’t seen a single POSITIVE comment about it in map chat. Everyone I see seems to be supremely ticked off by this reversal of promises.

You’ve got it COMPLETELY backwards. The Majority of customers wanted it to stay just as it was. The small vocal minority whined so much that ANet has now taken steps that very well may hamper the game for the majority of people who liked it just how it was.

Considering /everyone/ in map chat in Lions arch was -freaking out- about the new tier of gear…I hardly think that it’s only forum users that are upset about this.

I think the precedent sucks, and they should have left well enough alone. They simply screwed up and made it WAY too easy to get lvl 80 exotics, and then had to overcompensate the OTHER way to fix it.

I’m very excited about the new content. The new enemy type looks fantastic.

I would echo some of the worries that other players have noted about the new gear. The bottom line is that we don’t know WHAT that gear is yet though. I would hope they wouldn’t be experimenting with a gear treadmill, but they can’t possibly be that…uhm…stupid.

I farmed in Orr for about 4 hours over three days and made 8 gold in TP and Vendor sales. Gold isn’t that hard to come by if you boost your magic find with banners and food, then group up for event running in Orr.

Given that the Largos are mysterious and very private, I can’t see them being added as a new race. They verge on xenophobic. I can’t see them integrating themselves with the world in any large way, unless ANet slowly builds them up into far more than what they are. Currently, it would clash with the lore in a distinct way.

I can see the Tengu or the Kodan because of how pervasive they are in the game, and the fact that they interact with the world in a deep way.

On top of that I personally don’t particularly like the Largos, nor the idea of them.

They keep things secret because they have to manage expectations. It’s better to say nothing than to have to backtrack on something you promised.

I like it! I’d love to see this happen.

I can’t say I like much of anything about it. I haven’t been back there in a while….which could be interpreted as how well ANet did with the game.

Before the halloween event I had a benchmark spot I always went to to check my framerate. I consistently got 26-27fps.

During the event: 19fps

Now: 21fps

That seems very, very odd to me.

Yeah, with minimal magic find I got 6-7 dye drops yesterday. Could be a coincidence, but it DOES seem to be increased. Three of them turned out to be uncommon, too.

It took me three hours to finally complete it, but I don’t regret it a bit. The difficulty made the completion that much sweeter.

regarding the 4th point… The OP is completely accurate, and John is the one who is completely wrong. It’s not the case for EVERYTHING, but in the vast majority of things, you will not make back what you spent on making the item. If you WOULD, people would use crafting as a source of income.

The FOV beta is awesome. If they can keep/convert the camera zoom-out “bug” as a feature…I’ll be thrilled.

ANet said they just hired, and are working on spinning up, a whole team of people dedicated to dealing with bots/scammers/gold sellers.

I don’t think they anticipated that it would be as big of a problem as it has become.

Fortunately, on my server (tarnished coast) there seem to be very few issues with it compared to other servers.

I run at about 100% MF simply because without it I can’t afford to do anything in the game world. I need the MF booster for the sake of the money I get from the extra/better loot.

So you have tested one set of settings and decided that it’s a myth?

I went through 5-6 iterations of settings before deciding upon my final set. I use it for the visual “awesomeness” it provides, but as I understand it, there’s not going to be any sort of boost in performance unless you are dropping back other un-needed GW2 settings to replace them with what this provides.

The addon is not supposed to offer any sort of performance boost. It’s called SweetFX because it makes the games look “great.”

The Tier 1 and 3 medium sylvari armor is great. Not a big fan of tier 2.

It is crazy that the cases of racism have been ignored. No excuse for that.

As far as the bots go, yes it makes ANet look stupid, but it also doesn’t affect me at all. Their existence doesn’t decrease the amount of loot I get, they don’t HARM my game experience, etc. The game economy is completely borked with overpriced gold sinks all over the place at the moment, so the TP/economy issues stemming from bots are inconsequential at the moment to ME.

What’s really surprising to me is that ANet hasn’t done more about the botting in light of the fact that they stand to lose a lot of income from gold sales as a result of the bots being able to produce it for so cheap.

However:
I think the more important thing for ANet to be worried about is their lack of addictive end-game. I RP so that’s a massive end-game all its own, but the vast majority of players don’t. If it wasn’t for RP I would, without any doubt, have long ago become tired of the game and moved on to something else. I have spent well over 50% of my game time RPing since the day after launch, and yet I’ve still managed to obtain an entire set of exotic armor, and every exotic weapon that my main is capable of using.

Running the same old cycle of events in Orr holds no interest of mine at all.

And earlier we had another user here begging for costume brawl to be permanent…

I’d definitely buy a key fob authenticator. I play with roms too much on my Android phone to use the mobile implementation.

I’ve yet to do the Arah story mission but as you say that shouldn’t matter. Done everything up to having to kill Zhaitan though.
