It’d be better to say that if the number is evenly divisible by 5, you’ll roll for gems. 1:100 is a little bit far fetched. :P

Really? With some of the ridiculous drops in this game 1:100 seems pretty generous to me. I mean people calculated the infinite choir bell to be like a 0.002% drop rate, and it only dropped from a cash-shop RNG item.

Infinite choir bells dropped out of gift packages that were dropping like flies all over the world. Didn’t have to spend a dime to get them.

I’m not saying there’s not a problem with their RNG rates. I’m just saying that it’s not as bad as people make it seem….and people should be used to it by now.

I think they could get away with RNG in GW1 because that was a very unique game. The problem is that now they want to compete with games like WoW (They’ve flat-out said so), and that kind of player base wants something a lot more concrete than the RNG schemes they’re using.

And who exactly got one from those packages? Not a single person has yet presented him or herself that received a choirbell from a dropped package, only purchased ones.

Post about it on reddit. I’m sure you’ll find someone…

Why has the price of ectos gone up by like 20% in the past week?

Something’s gotta be at fault here… Did you nerf rare drop rates or something?

And this is why it’s a waste to have developers posting in the forum. The game director has just posted claiming drop rates were not nerfed, then someone quotes him asking if drop rates were nerfed.

He said ecto drop rates were not nerfed. I was talking about RARES.

Zzzzzz… A nerf in the drop rate of rares and exotics, which are the only source of ectos, means a nerf in the drop rate of ectos. Reading comprehension is a great thing.

Yeah, and thinking of reading comprehension, if you had bothered to actually READ my post, you would have seen that I didn’t ask if they had been nerfed. I asked why ecto prices had increased dramatically….

I haven’t noticed a difference in the rate I get good salvages, but I’ve noticed a MARKED decrease in the number of rares I get out of fractals, which has led to many fewer ectos piling up in my bank over the last week.

Out of about a dozen fractal runs in the past week, I’ve managed only 20 ectos because the rare drop rate seems to have decreased.

Of course it could just be my imagination or bad luck. Just a theory.

There was a massive bot ban wave last week. This is why T6 prices have jumped up in some cases to 100% and more.

Ah, I didn’t hear about that. In that case I’m gonna write off my rare drop rate decrease to bad luck and imagination.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re reading this thread.

Your logic, reasons, anecdotes and ideas are being listened to. Also keep in mind, that as I said yesterday, a skill can be a balance problem in one area of the game, but underpowered in another. That’s the nature of using one set of #‘s to balance across all areas of the game. So we’re keeping that in mind as we look at this. We may need to do different tweaks in different areas of the game.

We’re also not going to make a knee jerk reaction to this. We’re still gathering data, watching player trends, and having meetings on all possible ramifications from possible changes.

Perfect response. Thanks!

So lemme see if I understand pro-lvl 16-fractals puggers statements right….

You would rather carry someone and do an extra portion of work in an instance while they contribute little nothing at all instead of each party member pulling their fair share of the weight? And your reasoning behind this is “because it’s easy”??

O…..K……point made I guess, I just can’t wrap my head around people who want to gimp their party for some random person who couldn’t be bothered to put in the same effort you did to level their char (there are lots of quick lvl options avail tbh)

…..may I join your fractals and sit there just healing myself? Sounds about the same contribution a lvl 16 can achieve, and I can at least heal you with my boons. I’d like to get to lvl 30 on my lvl 10 guard plz, so uh, let’s get to beating that for me shall we?

A lvl 16 person is leveled up to 80 when they enter the fractals. They may not have the gear or trait points, but they are still going to be able to dole out a notable portion of the group’s damage.

I’ve been in more than a few fractals groups with true level 80s who were completely worthless, and nothing more than drags on the team. That could happen at any level.

A lvl 16 with an ounce of common sense will be worth FAR more than a lot of the lvl 80s I’ve played with.

For what it’s worth, the omnomberry pies/ghosts don’t do the damage. You just gain the health.

For argument’s sake, I will say that they give you a +70 precision boost. If they’re going to nerf anything, they should remove the boost, so you’re only getting those procs if you “deserve” it.

Worse than that, as a guardian I’ve stood directly under a meteor shower in WvW several times, for its entire length, and only been knocked down 3-4k health. Those things only hurt if they HIT you, and even then they don’t hurt that bad.

How is it legit when the sigil of blood heals and damages for around 475 but has a 5 second cooldown. Don’t kid yourself, the nerf is coming soon. Might as well unload those pies and roll with the punches.

The main difference is that theres a price. They go for almost 5s a pop. It’s a gold sink that will disappear if they nerf it. Not sure they’d see that as worth the risk.

We -need- a method to remove disruptive party members or absent players, but I would say that I would support boosting the vote count to at least three players instead of just two.

The reason being that if two players bicker in a PUG, one might vote to kick the other, and a player might blindly click the confirm button, not really thinking the decision though.

Two other people (in parties of more than three) should be required to confirm a kick of another player.

Taking the ability away for players to kick other players would seriously hamper the game experience.

Why do people link their drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

I think people have gotten used to very rarely having drops of yellow+ items in the world, so it’s a bit of corporate celebration when they get something.

Since the fractals have come along, getting yellows is commonplace, so celebration doesn’t make as much sense there, but I still understand why people like to do it.

Once you get past a certain point in fractals, people just stop linking anything. In the 20’s you might see someone link an infused ring, an exotic, or a shard, but I think I’ve only seen someone link a yellow in 20+ one time (save for the cores and lodestones at the maw chest).

you can also blame berserker’s gear for not having good survivability… i had runs in dungeon with people who do high damage once in a while when they are not too busy being downed because they don’t have toughness or vitality…
i sometimes wear my carrion exotic armor with superior runes of traveler in it and i do damage and don’t die because i have an high amount of health, and i don’t want to be blamed because i don’t die.

zerker gear isn’t that bad if you know how to dodge and bring traits/utilities that help you survive

Also, High DPS is one of the best ways to avoid dying. The faster you can burn the mobs, the less chance they kill you. The quicker the fight, the higher the survivability.

This seems to have been written by somebody who is anti-MF and probably had an MF leech in the party.

I have MF gear and I have PVT gear. I do more damage on with my MF armor than I do my PVT armor. As long as I don’t go down then I keep MF armor on.

I don’t agree with MF. I feel like it’s a crappy system and anet should get rid of it and just up ALL drops overall. However, I don’t think people should get mad at other people for using MF. This game is more about coordination and party synergy than one person having 300 more power.

Absolutely agree, I think magic find is broken! and it would be alot nicer to increase the drop rate of EVERYTHING by a reasonable overall amount.

Meh, I don’t even think they need to increase the droprate. You can roll a new toon, get them to 80, and have them in full exotic gear in 2-3 weeks from scratch, if you know what to do. Heck, you could do it in a DAY if you wanted to spend $50 on gems to convert to gold. Craft to 80, buy all the gear you need/want. :-P

The only thing that seems to need a bit of a boost is the precursor drop rate. Either that or precursors need to have predictable paths to attainment.

Fractal Salvage chance ?

I get loads of ectos out of fractal run rares. I think you just have on days and off days. I’ve had days with lots of rares and only a handful of ectos, and I’ve had days with just a couple rares and 2-3 ectos from each salvage.

I’ve saved up 70 ectos in the past 1.5 weeks from just salvaging rares from fractals with mystic salvage kits. In the 2.5 weeks prior to that I saved just over 160 ectos when saving to upgrade my ascended backpiece. (I shelled out gold for the remaining 90 i needed for the upgrade).

I don’t care much about getting Ori or Gossamer from them. You could salvage ectos to sell, then just buy the Ori/Gossamer.

Yeah, a full run, sure. I’m talking about if the MF itself provides the user with enough extra income to cover the increased gear damage and/or the gear damage of the party members. (if they were running regular gear instead of crap)

I’m guessing that’s a massive “no.”

LoL QQing about a little MF. Its not like a few extra minute to clear a dungeon is gonna make any different. Feel free to use mf gear as well if u think they’re selfish.

I wonder how much money has been lost in repairs for groups because people can’t pull their own weight and party wipes happen. I also wonder if all the extra deaths (which MF stackers would never actually ADMIT to) and their related repairs makes MF worth it? I’m guessing that’s a hearty “no.”

As I’ve said before which a lot of you are clearly choosing to ignore. People can not go with travelers gear but berserkers/knights/etc and not sacrifice that third stat for 18% MF.

How much damage is not mitigated with a loss of 100 toughness? How much damage is lost with a loss of 100 precision? How much damage is lost with a loss of 100 power?

You’re assuming that everyone does an all or nothing with MF.

I’ve yet to meet a MF stacker who DIDN’T go all or nothing. I’m guessing you don’t run more than one or two pieces of gear that don’t have MF.

We’re also not talking “100” of a particular stat here. We’re talking a net ~1000 total loss of stat points by stacking that crap. It’s not like the big 6 gear pieces are the main source of stats….

There are so many ways to implement magic find in creative ways its not even funny. I can provide you a list so long you’d be able to wrap in around Arenanet’s offices 13 times.

Magic find on gear is redundant, detrimental and completely nonsensical.

MF food already exists. That’s enough source of MF.

I personally even take issue with that. You can buy omnomberry pies or something else damage boosting and benefit the party even more, but instead you choose something like MF food for no perceivable benefit.

Are you really serious here? Like….really? Your power, toughness, precision, and vitality are 1/3 lower than everyone elses….and you think you need proof that that will affect your damage output and survivability?

Sorry, but you’re simply playing devil’s advocate here. You know the truth as well as any of us. You’re just pretending to feign ignorance because you don’t have a dog in this fight.

Prove that it has a significant negative impact.

You sacrifice a more than 1/3 of your stats if you stack MF gear. If you need proof that that causes a negative impact, you’re obviously not using your noggin.

Seriously, you could save the gold and time you spend on exotic MF gear (which would more than make up for the extra loot you get from having it) and just buy cheap greens and blues. They’re gonna make you just as useful in a dungeon as MF gear will.

To be clear, if you wanna run MF in the open world doing events and general farming, more power to you. Just don’t screw over your party by bringing that crap into a dungeon or a fractal.

Then I guess those running dungeons in blues and greens are being selfish for not farming solo to buy exotics.

You can use berserker armor or pvt armor and still get great MF. You don’t have to sacrifice the third stat by getting armor that has MF built in.

I’m comparing the logic of running with MF gear to the logic of running end-game with blues or greens. The benefit is the same. More money and time. The hit is the same. You’re squishy, weak, and a drag on the rest of your party. It’s selfish and stupid to stack MF in dungeons/fractals.

Key word is perceived. Nobody has proved through numbers what the impact is. Yes skill is more important than stats. I assumed everyone knows this so I was referring to stats alone.

say both persons have equal skill level: MF person is the person with less +Critical damage or +Toughness compared to Berserkers or Knights Person. You are inherently impaired by your lack of important stats. You cannot make excuses out of this.

This. Like I said, put on non-MF blues or greens, and your stats are gonna roughly equal out. You’ll save 25-30g in the price of a full exotic set, and there’s no way that MF boost is going to gain you that much extra stuff.

I run FotM all the time with NO MF AT ALL. I have had runs where I’ve gotten as many as EIGHT rares and a couple lodestones. I get exotics every 5-10 runs too. I also have more Shards than I know what to do with…
