The more rares the better. Ectos grew way too expensive, and needed a way to have their price brought under control.
In the grand scheme of conditions, confusion really does need a nerf. It’s way too OP compared to the other conditions. It’s easier to survive 25 stacks of bleeding than it is to survive 10 stacks of confusion.
I’m getting less and less motivated to play. The recent changes, added currencies, fragmentation, and forcing me to play the game their way have sucked a lot of the life out of the game for me.
Being required to do guild missions to get some of the ascended gear really just ticks me off greatly. You’re entirely at the mercy of some guild leader or officer to start guild missions to get gear that YOU personally need to progress in the fractals.
It’s the most brainless and stupid thing they’ve done yet in this game, and shows that they really don’t understand the players’ motivations for playing games.
I want to progress in the fractals. I can’t because I’m at the mercy of officers and leaders of guilds. That’s idiocy, sorry. Tying two completely unrelated activities together like that and forcing you to play a part of the game you either can’t play, or have no interest in….makes no logical sense at all. If I want to progress in the fractals, and that’s my endgame…I should be able to get what I need to progress while I’m IN the fractals.
This is anti-progression.
I used to think that grinding was about be required to do one task repetitively over a long period of time.
What appears to be happening here is that we are now having to do 4-6 different tasks on a regular basis in order to have the BiS gear.
I’m not opposed to adding different playstyles, but having to do partake in 4 or 5 different playstyles, over a long period of time, to have BiS gear on ONE CHARACTER is silly.
I know they said they would add additional ascended pieces and add new ways of getting them. I am simply asking that you provide a method to achieve every piece BiS gear for each of the existing currencies BEFORE adding more.
This is what I have been trying to say as well. If you want the accended items, you are being forced to possibly play in a style that you really do not want to. If I wanted to go play DE’s all day, I should be able to buy the accended items with Karma. If I wanted to do WvWvW all day, I should be able to use tokens, etc, etc,. I took a break for a couple of months because of personal reasons and now just came back and feel so left behind which I thought was not suppose to happen. Bring the items out the same way that exotics were with just a higher reasonalbe cost and I think many would be happy with that.
QFT. I didn’t read all the replies and missed this, but these basically echo the same sentiment I’m feeling at the moment. I’m really wearing thin from all the various garbage activities they want me to do in order to get what I need to do the one thing I really DO want to do: Fractals.
The most important thing I saw was this:
Add all ascended gear types to
Guild Merits
Dungeons (i.e. require 3-4 gifts to make an accessory)
WvW
CRAFTING
It drives me absolutely bonkers that you can only get certain ascended things from doing a large list of random and unrelated activities.
Ascended gear was added for fractals. That was good because….if you don’t run fractals, you didn’t need the gear.
Then they decided to “support” ALL gameplay types. Except they made the methods toward getting ascended gear so incredibly varied, unrelated, and disjunct, that you cannot get the ascended gear without significantly impacting the way you WANT to play the game.
I get to play the game for 2-3 hours a day tops. I spend most of that time working on the daily which requires me to do stupid crap I really have no interest in. So instead of loving the game, I’m growing to resent it because in order to get that amulet for my 40+ fractal running…I can’t even run fractals. That is absolutely absurd and nonsensical.
They need to drop this paradigm right now. If I want to progress in the fractals past the 40s, I should be able to get what I need to get for progression IN THE FRACTALS. Instead I’m being forced to do something I have no desire to do whatsoever. It’s sapping the life out of the game for me.
This has been my worry for the game for a while now. The changes are coming too fast while needed fixes are largely being ignored.
I also feel like requiring you to do ONLY dailies for amulets (for instance) or guild missions for ascended accessories is a very bad way of going about things. I love my guild but what if the officers only want to start up guild missions once a week? I’m getting the shaft and have no way of getting those things other than joining another guild…which I really don’t want to do. It’s just another thing pulling me away from how I want to play this game into their version of what that should look like.
lol if you need spy kits to help you get by in fotm or any other dungeon….i don’t even know what to say honestly.
Just be honest and say that you haven’t played the dredge fractal past the lower levels.
i’m on 34 sry
Then you have had someone in your group using the kits and weren’t paying attention. I’m in the 40s and have over 500 fractals completed. Getting by dredge without kits is a 1 in 100 without them. You’re just bragging falsehoods if you try to disagree with that.
I disagree with everyone in this thread.
99% of the game can be done reasonably without the kits, but dat 1%. dat 1% where the situation/fight was dumb, and it was not the fault of you or anyone else in your party, where kits allow you to correct the inherent dumbness of the game, dat 1% is why i rage.
anet has made an infuriatingly bad habit of fixing the communities solutions to the games problems without fixing the reason we needed a solution (the games horsekitten).
THIS THIS THIS.
The reason people use things like the kits is because the game was so unbalanced in that 1% that there was no other way to get by a certain point.
Dredge fractal at 30+ is a prime example of this. Try getting past the mechanism without these kits. You’re gonna fail 99 times out of 100.
All this will do is make crews that get the dredge fractal reset the fractal run and try again for something different. That means players will play LESS of their content. If ANet was going to do something like this, they needed to make it so taking damage doesn’t interrupt the mechanism usage. A simple stray shot aimed at another player can screw over the entire group right now. Even if the person using the mechanism has full health.
Changes like these hurt the game deeply, not help it. It was a genuinely stupid and shortsighted decision to add a cooldown.
the thing with that is…dredge fractal 30+ is you really don’t need spy kits. mabye try another strat. no one said 30+ was going to be easy or that you need to go out and spend karma on something like spy kits to help you win.
You obviously haven’t run dredge past 30. It’s an unbalanced mess in that cage. There’s a massive difference between “difficult” and “nearly impossible.”
I only needed these kits for the dredge fractals really because you know, ANet had a weird sense of humor when it comes to inmeasurable amount of dredges.
We always found that killing the dredge tends to eliminate the need for abusing any mechanics.
You haven’t played the fractals at any level beyond 20, have you? 10?
Admittedly 16. I hang my head in shame.
You cannot come close to keeping up with them in most cases past lvl 20, and definitely not past mid 20s or 30. Just staying alive is enough of a challenge, let alone actually doing anything effective against them.

Yeah, doesn’t make a lot of sense to have an “unlock fee.” I don’t understand the charge at all. It’s a logical fallacy.
The guild missions should earn you stuff, not cost you stuff.
I’ve run that fractal probably 50 times and haven’t seen bats there before. Strange.
I’ve done 450 fractals, about 1/3 of them above level 30, and gotten 1 (longbow) skin.
My only complaint is the fact that you get people with 300 fractals or less, barely past lvl 30, and they have 4 skins already. The disparity is crummy. The drop rate is not consistent at all.
I would definitely appreciate a way to BUY the skins with pristine relics. Even 20 relics would be acceptable. Just want a way to guarantee the skin I want.
On the grawl fractal, bats are now in the first corridor you have to run down (with the rolling rocks chasing you). This started after the patch.
Anyone else notice anything ninja’d into the “maintenance” patch?
I’ll be honest, I just don’t get the loot fixation in this forum. Not sure if its gamewide or just here though. I’ve just never “needed” so much coin to enjoy any game. Still don’t.
Loot has always been whatever it is. ((shrug))
High level fractals broke me of my loot fascination. They made getting most of what I needed possible, and my enjoyment of the rest of the game increased dramatically when I really didn’t care what I got out of a chest at the end of an open world event. Same goes for dungeons.
Knowing that if I want to put in the time and effort to progress in the 40s in fractals, that they will provide me with good rewards….takes all the stress out of the “meh” rewards the rest of the game provides.
My only change would be that it’d be cool to get a guaranteed rare out of a meta event. I’ve gotten as many as 6 rares and an exotic in a single 30+ fractal run (no MF). Seems like the rest of the game should be OK with that, even if they are account-bound like most stuff in the fractals.
Phenom 2 is an old processor. You can’t expect to get really awesome performance out of an old core 2 duo either…
The new Piledriver cored processors are far better than the previous Bulldozer cored ones. They’re “almost” to the level of an i7 now. I just upgraded from a FX-4100 (bulldozer) (oc’d to 4.2ghz) to an FX-8350 (piledriver) at 4.2Ghz, and my performance more than doubled in most places. Yes, there are more cores, but the FX-8100 (bulldozer) performed pretty much the same as the FX-4100 in GW2.
Whatever they changed with the upgraded “architecture,” it definitely made a vast improvement.
I still wouldn’t put it up against an i7…but it costs like half as much and I’m willing to sacrifice a bit for that.
Sadly the Phenom II is rather good and only the current Vishera lineup beats it barely in single thread performance. The performance issues are software rather then hardware.
Yeah, i don’t doubt that the performance issues are mostly with GW2….
Run the game with the repair option.
Also: run windows update and update your graphics drivers. Never hurts, and very well may help.

When it comes to their armor and weapons, “cool looking” tends to overcome “reasonable or sensible.”
True… I’m gonna “attempt” to give ANet the benefit of the doubt on this one. Though you’re probably right.
I know this is a little unusual, but does this sound like a reasonable conclusion to come to?:
(This is all “in character” stuff, and wouldn’t actually work this way “in-game.”)
Character kills destroyers and collects destroyer lodestones from the remains.
Character finds “person” who can craft said weapons.
Character provides lodestones as well as other ingredients to crafter.
Crafter crafts the weapon.
This seems like it “sort-of” fits with all the GW1 and GW2 lore out there, given that nothing exact is known.
I was also thinking of throwing in some other ingredients, seeing as the ones in GW1 required onyx, granite, and diamond. Maybe Obsidian, since…Obsidian destroyer troll (and there would be obsidian EVERYWHERE around an active lava flow). That’s a little bit of a stretch, but I like it….
Considering that players can wield the weapons in-game, and ANet tends to be very careful about lore-breaking stuff, I would assume that holding a destroyer weapon (or other corrupted weapon) would not harm the holder.
Thanks again. All of this is very helpful.
But like many things in this game… it’s great on paper and theory, but it’s execution is severely flawed.
Bah. I’m at lvl40, and I have no issues with agony at all…
I don’t know of any lore associated with the Lodestones ingame.
However, consider real-world lodestones. They can be magnetized, attracting iron to the surface of the stone. If the ingame Lodestones function in a similar matter, they ar also magnetized. Instead of attracting iron though, they attract magical essence. So if I had to make an educated guess, a Destroyer Lodestone is a lodestone that has attracted stray Destroyer essence.
I could be totally wrong though.
Even if it’s not accurate….I like it.
OK thanks. Another question on that topic then: In “lore-speak,” what is a destroyer lodestone? Is there no real definition? Could it be assumed they’re just a piece of a destroyer?
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll check back and see if anyone adds anything else. This definitely gives me some stuff to go on though!
I’m curious: How do destroyer weapons fit into the lore? What are they made of, what is their origin, what special properties would a destroyer weapon have, etc.
I can find a lot of info on the destroyers themselves, but not the weapons.
REASON: I RP on Tarnished Coast, so I’m looking for possible ways to introduce the destroyer weapon set on a character.
Mhmmm, so really people just go for the amulet & rings; then what? Dye’s and Mini’s? heehee
I guess I can’t really complain
We can assume they’ll be adding more stuff, so it doesn’t hurt to just hold on to the laurels.
I 100% agree with the OP. I’m in the same spot, all my lvl 40+ chars have 3 sets of gear (PVE, WvW,MF) and this is a game where collecting cool armor sets and unique weapons is a big part of the fun. Also, my chars are all levelling 2 trade skills. Cooking alone takes up 1/3 of my bank slots. And yes, I have the guild bank set up.
Many other games let you have lots of tabs and even allow you to label and organize them. I’d love to be able to do that. Some of us just enjoy collecting stuff.
P.S. I’ve never had too many mats, between alts and guildies I always need more.
Just look through your bank, and destroy or sell anything you don’t reasonably think you’re ever going to use. If you were wrong…you can always buy it or make it again. I’d wager you’ll NEVER use most of that food. Only keep the stuff you will actually use, and keep it on your characters.
Here’s the problem: They increase the cap, you buy more, and then you go fill them up with more useless crap. Then you gripe again.
And you never use more than 1% of all the stuff taking up that space in your bank.
Sell the junk, deal with the space you’ve got.
Just accessories so far. You can craft backpieces (or get them with fractal tokens and some other stuff), rings come from fractal tokens, laurels and drops, and amulets come only from laurels at this point.
I agree this needs to be sorted but i also think that if you join a group you should follow the leaders strategy etc
That implies the leader is actually a leader. That’s not the case. It’s just the person who started the dungeon. If they were actually labeled as a guide, then great….but they’re not.
Why would you hold on to most of that stuff? If you don’t see yourself using it w/in a few weeks, TP it. You can always buy it back later. There’s a loss, sure, but it’s worth it to not have a bank that looks like that. That’s shudder inducing.
Some of those things in that first tab I’m really scratching my head over. You have TONS of stuff in there that no one ever uses. Like 30+ of major-level sigils/token. WHY? You will never use more than TWO of those, let alone FORTY of some of them. That’s just hoarding with no purpose at all. :P They also sell for almost nothing on the TP if you ever wanted to buy them again.

I love my garnished toast. So glad I picked this server and got into RP.
We seem to regularly complete grenth (a couple times a day), and even balthazar was opened last night by a group.
Not to mention…best community ever!
Agreed. I’ve made a similar suggestion in the past, but it went without reply.
ANet’s policy of not supporting RP is a major bummer in a game that just BEGS for RP. I know official support requires a lot of additional work and resources from ANet, but RPers are always going to be the most dedicated, long term players… They really need to rethink their position on this.
Besides, Overflow was meant to be an alternative to long queue times that other MMOs have. We’re nearly six months in, and we’re still seeing overflows. By standard MMO logic, those sorts of problems should be resolved by now.
You can only get lvl 80 rebreathers from that one karma vendor in cursed shore. There’s no way to craft a rebreather at all, and they highest you can get is a masterwork (green).
I’m sure they’ll add them eventually.
It’s a complicated question. How do you define loot? Drops only?
If they changed things so I could get everything I wanted by completing a “specific something,” I wouldn’t mind. Then I’d have a goal and a path to get something without having to farm and hope for drops.
The problem is that too much in the game depends on RNG. Loot plays an integral role in getting what you need in this game, and a lot of mechanics would have to be changed to accomplish this task.
In other games, such as WoW, things that drop off random mobs are almost ALWAYS worthless unless you’re in the process of leveling. Everything you need later in the game, you obtain by doing “something.”
$25 is a pretty standard realm transfer fee for MMOs. The “other game” has been charging this for years and no one has complained about it.
ANet should have charged $25 out of the gate and been done with it.
For a company that takes their lore as seriously as ANet supposedly does, a unicorn with their logo slapped on its butt is beyond bizarre. It makes absolutely no sense in a world where Unicorns and ANet do not exist. Immersion destroyed. Kthxbai.
I like the new one better…
Yeah this as well as underwater combat. That’s….lame. Instead of making underwater combat fun, and something we’d -want- to do…we just get forced to now.
It’s a GREAT mechanic for people stuck on servers with broken events keeping them from getting certain things done.
Skillpoint bugged? Guest.
Arah borked? Guest.
You get the picture….
Of course it should have been implemented the way people wanted, which is that it should have been “right click a party member” and transfer to their server….
The biggest problem with the game as I see it is that exploits are possible in the first place. This game has been out for going-on 6 months now, and the number of “cheats” available to skip or nerf bosses/other fights is still substantial.
You can’t even do a fractal run without the group glitching through some major part of at least one fractal.
The quality of the software is lacking in a HUGE way, and the level of attention that bugs, glitches, blockers, etc receive from ANet is a bit insulting.
And wanna know why I don’t care all that much when someone glitches a boss? Because of things like the pickup bug. This has been a long standing bug where if you’re holding down the right set of buttons, and hit F to pick something up as you’re running, your movement becomes completely uncontrolled for the next five seconds or so, and you run headlong into whatever you were running toward. I can’t tell you how many times, especially in fractals, I’ve died because I lost control of my character and they ran off into something and got killed. Or ran off a cliff. Or aggroed a whole slew of enemies. If we can be glitched to death, then so can the bosses. End of story in my mind.
The game is tons of fun, no doubt, but the low quality of the work (as well as the lack of apparent concern from ANet) is a real shame. If we were a month out of the gate it’d be one thing…but we’re long past that.
Legendary Imbued Shaman ~ Volcano/Grawl Fractal scale 20+
I’ve completed it at lvl 32, and we only had two people get hit by the arrow attack during the entire bossfight. Every other attack was either blocked, reflected, or dodged.
Yeah, they should somehow make it more clear…
That said, there are two copies of every ring, usually with related names. Lunaria and Solaria are a good example.
Customer service might be able to help you if/since the “Unique” attribute isn’t documented.
That should say dynamic level adjustment system, way back in the day we called that the sidekicking system and that snuck through to the website.
How it did so without any of us noticing is an enigma wrapped in a paradox, surrounded in a mystery.
I’m guessing the name came from the idea that a lvl 80 toon could go wander around with a lvl 10 toon as their “sidekick?”
The 7000 series from AMD has some serious design issues. I have a 7870 and get similar performance to the OP.

I guess I can’t really complain
