Question to FA and KN, out of curiosity, but are your WvW communities just as happy and excited to WvW at the end of the week (not with just THIS week, but I mean historically and lately to now), or do you have your moments across the week?

From an FA perspective, it feels like our best attendance is on reset night and over the weekend. Our weekend scoring definitely reflects that. Forum warriors aside, I think our population base skews towards the college/workforce age groups, which typically means we have less participation during the week. It has seemed like this both recently but also dating back to our tier 3 days.

Also some of our bigger WvW guilds have meetings and/or bounty nights scheduled during the week, which drops attendance on random nights.

We also have the same things going on. The problem is, you guys seem to get a lot of fairweather players out on the weekend, then come monday, your forces shrink dramatically. We’ve had the same problem on TC before. Since we are an RP server though, all we have to do is throw a dolyak parade to get people to come out. Not sure what the answer is to you guys getting more militia to come out.

I think blaming fair weather players is inaccurate. Last week we were winning and we just faded away the same as we do most weeks. If it was fair weather players as the issue we by rights should have had even more out.

I could be wrong, but I think it might be an issue of morale and demoralization. Once TC passed FA last week, FA almost disappeared from WvW. :-/ I think those who stopped playing just need to take it as a challenge and get out there anyway.

Big FA zergs are not to be trifled with. People just need to play. :-P

Seperate reset times for NA and EU

It is quite sad that people seems to think that ArenaNet is simply doing this to screw them over.

No one thinks they’re TRYING to screw us over. It’s just obvious that they didn’t think this through.

If there’s “no way” to have separate EU and NA reset times…then the application was engineered badly and needs to be fixed. These are separate data-centers an ocean apart from each other. Saying it’s not possible it’s just an excuse for not wanting to put forth the effort to do it.

I talked to our server guys and we just don’t have the ability to reset these at different times. As much as that is an unsatisfying answer for you in the EU, it is reality.

Might I suggest that you do not implement this change until that ability exists. Breaking one region to provide a marginal improvement elsewhere doesn’t seem to be a well thought out decision. I doubt the programming to split the server reset protocol is onerous. I expect the testing and QA to far out weight the time cost of the modification.

Sounds like the ratings reset to me all over again. But really 2 hours earlier is not a big deal to the “hardcore” WvWers that play many hours a day.

This change will mostly affect the casual players and the WvW guilds that play at certain times of the day. O well. Too bad for them. Change your schedule I guess or beg ArenaNet to stop this change.

On reset night where queues hit the 3-4 hour mark…it’s a big deal for those who can’t be there to join a map the moment the reset happens.

Moving the reset times back two hours is a pretty lousy move for NA players. You need to rescind this decision.

I think ANet did a good job of balancing gold’s actual value in the game. You can shell out a ton of money and buy a completed legendary, sure. But what does that gain you? You get no in-game advantage by doing this…

If you want to CRAFT a legendary, you can buy your way about halfway there, and then you’re required to do a LOT of in-game stuff to complete it. You can’t buy your way to a crafted legendary.

Also, those people shelling out lots of money are keeping the game running, while people who aren’t shelling out any money are basically getting a free ride. Sounds a whole lot like America to me…

free ride? I paid $60 for this game. That’s hardly free.

The people shelling out money are getting the content they are paying for. I paid my share and i get the content i paid for, which doesn’t include backpacks, molten picks, etc.

Yes, and I paid overall a couple hundred on WoW and expansion packs…and then had to pay a subscription fee. So what? The fee keeps the game going. The gem store keeps the game going.

Buying the game is nothing more than paying for the 5 years of development that it took to make the game in the first place.

Sure the gem store does provide regular income for Anet, but this was all determined by budget projections based on 1). cost of running business. 2). predictive analysis of how much the cash shop would be used by the population, as well as projected revenue and profit from game sales.

if your business model is dependent on 100% of your user base using the cash shop, then that is a poor business model. If your analysis shows people are less likely to use the cash shop, then it will require a sub (see WoW subscription model, which existed before there was a plethora of data showing people are very likely to spend money on virtual goods).

How is it a poor business model if people are spending, and the game is still running?

I understand that it’s RISKY at the offset, to be sure, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I think it’s turned out to be a GREAT business model for them. It was a great business model in GW1, and it was so great that B2P and F2P imitators started popping up all over the place.

Arenanet is probably single-handedly responsible for the F2P craze that MMO games have turned into.

I personally don’t see the value in intangible virtual content. It doesn’t have any practical value, your investment on your purchase depreciates IMMEDIATELY, so your funds can never be recovered (unless you ebay your account).

One could also argue that buying an MMO is worthless, because it would only last as long as the servers do.

Also, It’s no more intangible than going to a movie, etc. We spend money on intangible entertainment all the time. This is no different.

If it makes your life more enjoyable, then it’s money well spent.

This is what you will see from a b2p game model: RNG gamble, $10mining picks, cute lil backpacks, silk shirts, funbox, & flame/frost. I have given up on any real content coming to this game. Economy, T6 mats, Legendary, & endgame ALL revolve around the gemstore.

This game is made for the easily entertained mmo player, it’s becoming clearer everyday as players realize how important a good sub mmo really is.

As someone who never plans on spending any money in the cash shop, i am grateful to those weirdos walking around with their quaggan backpacks.

Yes, some people have more disposable income, have a different perspective on the value of their (parents) money, or don’t care that they are purchasing an intangible commodity that will only last as long as the game servers do. But at least this doesn’t effect your gameplay. Go try any F2P game where you get steamrolled by the same people you complain about and see if your perspective changes.

Unfortunately, quaggan backpacks don’t fund content, or in-depth profession buffing, they fund more quaggan backpacks, if the past seven months are anything to judge by.

You’re right, because servers, employees, and bandwidth are all free…

Diablo 2 funded those off box sales.

This isn’t Diablo 2… And D2 was made by a different company.

Apples to apples.

More like apples to pineapples. D2 is not an MMO.

B2P, sequel to Guild Wars 1, contemporary of games such as Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Online… apples to apples.

Are you still going on with this argument? GW2 is an MMO with massive infrastructure costs and a huge, ongoing development effort.

D2 is a stagnant NON-MMO game with a real money auction house as its only “real” reason to be server connected.

You’re comparing a Ford Focus to a Semi and trying to convince yourself they’re the same thing.

You’re dead wrong in the comparison.

You lost 90% of this forum with the words we need gear progression. That’s all I’ll say on the subject. Good luck, mate. The kittenstorm approaches.

I disagree. I love progression in all its various forms, gear progression included. I think adding ascended gear was a great idea and well executed. Same with legendaries.

I also love visual progression, WvW’s new progression system, achievement progression, etc. I don’t know why people talk junk about gear progression and heartily support all the other kinds. Some people REALLY LIKE gear progression. Actually…a LOT of people do. Look at “the other game” for an example of that. Massive subscriber base (dwarfs GW2s active players)…all centered around gear progression.

The main difference with GW2 is that you don’t HAVE to get ascended gear to do just as well in pretty much everything in the game. Ascended gear is really only “required” for fractals.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have only run each AC path one time since the re-invention. It went from a dungeon that could be done by a moderately skilled group to a dungeon that you need a good, coordinated team to complete. Nothing wrong with a good, coordinated team, but they took all the “casual” out of the game’s most casual dungeon. Just not fun anymore. :-/

This is why people like CoF P1 so much. It’s easy, fun, and can be done VERY fast by hardcore teams…or not so fast (but still easily achievable) by casual teams.

1) It’s a game. It’s a very intense game that can be taken seriously….but it’s still a game.
2) Commanders with no respect for those following them don’t deserve to be followed…even if they’re technically “good” commanders.
3) Often times the foul-up was the commander’s.
4) Commanders do not own us as players. We all paid the same amount of $ to buy GW2. The superiority complex needs to die.

TSL has been on TC since release. From what I understand, they are a very old guild that started many years ago. I know for sure they have some great commanders and we are lucky to have them.

This part is true. We are a VERY old guild, many of us playing out of the same seniors home. Many of us belong to a seniors gaming network. Although most of us have cataracts in our eyes… we give it our best. Nights become very interesting when one of our legally blind commanders is leading. He lead us into that pack of Minotaurs north of Bay Keep thinking it was a BT Zerg…. He then told us that he got 50 badges from that one battle…

… the rest of us knew better though. I share this because he can’t read the forums either.

If you ever see us just zig zagging back and forth, please have sympathy for the norn up front.

Much respect for DIS as well. We’ve greatly appreciated grouping up with them lately. Bunch of great guys.

GIVE US back the Orbs….PLEASZEEE.

That would be the worst possible decision.

The only way I would support the orbs if if they gave your team reduced versions of the outmanned buff. +MF & 50% chance your gear won’t be damaged on death. Stuff like that.

The Orbs were completely broken from day-1, and were rightfully removed.

The orbs were broken, and hacked etc. but honestly WvW needs the orbs back to balance WvW, if anything give them a 10-15 point value for holding it and simply leave the buffs/perks off them all together.

Balance? They UNBALANCED WvW. Removing them balanced it back out….

I would agree with your idea though. 15 points for holding an orb is a nice plan and doesn’t give a team an unfair advantage.

Before…you were strong. Then you got an Orb. Then you got so strong no one would beat you…even though it was artificial strength. That is utterly broken.

I have a way bigger difference between the two kits.

Basic stat class in college teaches ya that.

Also, it was 400 tries per kit-type. Two sets of 200 each.

400 tries, with a spread this wide, pretty much puts a nail in the coffin of all the “scam” arguments. BL Kits made a pretty huge difference. You’ll get over a hundred more ectos out of 400 salvages.

The main reason I can understand doing it though is that the guild tools in GW2 are bloody awful. If guild leaders could see a last online and last rep option….it wouldn’t be an issue. As it stands if you declare that people 100% rep…you can just boot them if they aren’t repping.

Commander chat suppression

in WvW

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

I’m aware you are all posting about public chat but I just wanted to post a reminder that commanders are never suppressed in squad chat.

Without reading all the reponses after yours, here is the problem with Squad chat:

1. It looks like Squad allows a maximum of 25 players, so this limits Squad Chat
2. When in a Squad, you can no longer see other commanders (blue doritos) on the map. This makes joining a squad often a detriment to map coordination between commanders.

1) It’s 30 (29+commander), just an FYI
2) And yes…. One time I joined a commanders squad in a BL, then hopped over to EB to see if they had a commander, and reported to my commander that they didn’t….because I had forgotten I was in a squad. They did have a commander, I just couldn’t see them.

Squads are useless.

I was commanding yesterday and got supressed again. Of the five times I’ve commanded, I’ve been supressed three times. I was in mumble, but about 50% of the people following me were not.

This really needs a fix.

From my experience, there’s minority of people in WvW that will spend their money on upgrades. And it seems to be the same folks over and over. Now no one is forcing them to do it, so at the end of the day it’s their choice, but if the costs were adjusted someway, maybe more people would upgrade and then the burden would be spread across greater numbers.

Sadly I think most WvW Pugs don’t even know you CAN upgrade things. xD

…which is more than a lot of dungeons will get you.

I make 5g/hour running SE without factoring in drops. I can make way more farming CoF 1. Even AC is 4g/hour. If you, on a T2 server, could make a mere 2g/hour, it would be a step in the right direction.

I definitely understand that what I said doesn’t apply to ALL dungeons. Just the vast majority of them. I made 7g doing CoF speed runs last night for an hour. The thing is…very few people feel like doing speed runs in CoF for hours on end. MOST people MIGHT run a dungeon a day…and that’s optimistic.

I rep two guilds regularly. One is 170 members, the other is 70. In all those people…I would guess (and this is just an estimate) only 5% of them run a dungeon every day. I’m a die-hard who runs them like crazy, but I’m a rarity in the mix.

Sorry though, I’m kinda getting tangential here. In any case, siege aside, WvW is one of the cheapest things I do. High level fractals cost quite a bit. Very rarely do you exit a lvl 40+ fractal with less than 3 or 4 pieces of damaged gear. More often than not, at least one person has to exit the run to go repair their armor because something’s become completely broken.

I’ve had 5 hour WvW runs where I only died a time or two… If you consider the number of capture-able locations, the upgrades possible divided by the number of people playing still puts WvW at SUPER cheap. Just get behind a smart commander and play smart on a personal level…and you won’t be pouring money into it.

Just because you come out ahead in the grand scheme of things doesn’t mean it’s not a money sink. I mean, I make money on the TP all of the time, but it still sinks a ton of my gold out of the market regardless. The same is true of WvW, though to a much lesser degree.

If the gold earned in WvW were tripled, you would scarcely see a change in the value of gold due to how much more of it is earned elsewhere in the game.

I’ll put it this way…. I spend a LOT more money in PvE than I do in WvW. Also, I think you underestimate how many people play WvW, or you’re on a low-pop WvW server. If the money tripled from WvW, I’d be making 2g per hour or more, which is more than a lot of dungeons will get you. Multiply that times the tens of thousands of players involved in WvW, and you’ve got TONS more gold flowing into the market.

I think it’s been kinda ugly lately with TC-v-FA largely due to that widely circulated FA forum post about the “hogs” of TC. While I’m sure it doesn’t reflect the views of all of FA, it was “liked” by many of the FA community, and was a really low, immature, deluded, prideful, and non-factual post.

That was also only posted on our server’s forums where you have no business being.

I also don’t see how it was ‘liked by many of the fa community’… probably 5 people lol’d at it publicly, and there were several that said ‘knock it off’. Please quit overgeneralizing.

It’s a public forum. If FA doesn’t want other servers looking on, they can require that all members are verified before viewing.

Aside from that, I didn’t attend the forums myself. It was screen-capped and shared all over the place.

Your forum has a “like” feature. It was liked by many people. Far more than “five.”

Also, I was very clear in my post that I don’t believe all of FA agreed with the post/sentiment. It wasn’t an over-generalization. It was merely an observation based on irrefutable fact. Some of FA give the rest of the server a very bad name. Also, my complete post was not quoted, so the part you’re replying to is out of context.

There has been a grudge against FA well before I arrived here and i think its really unhealthy for people to put so much energy in to always having to beat them both in words and with sheer manpower.

The beginning of this matchup almost 6 weeks ago was fantastic and i wish it could have stayed that way.

I dont have much else to say than to keep an eye on the aftermath of the most recent transfers.

Enjoy your win and be gracious to your competition fellow posters, otherwise there is nothing to separate the attitudes displayed here from those of a bully.

We want a mature fight with good sportsmanship, and to be taunted and derided that way really riled a lot of people up. I think that’s why a lot of the forum posts from TC people have been a bit “on edge” over the past several days.

FA’s problem is one of public-relations and maturity. It doesn’t extend to all people on FA (of course), but PR and maturity are what people see when they come into this thread.

FA doesn’t lack for skill, and I think we can all agree on that.

This is just my $0.02, anyway. Please don’t think I believe that I speak for all of TC or anything.

My suggestion for a fair, competitive WvW

I don’t get y latency is an issues for people. I play on euro server despite being in the USA. And I know aussies that have no latency issues despite not having any ocieanic placed servers

The only latency issues I have a problem with are the big fight skill lags that have taken off like crazy since the culling fix. There’s always been this problem, but it seems like it’s gotten 5x as bad since the culling change.

That said, back on topic: I see nothing wrong overall with WvW. Could be due to the great T2 matchup, but I have enjoyed the heck out of WvW. They’ve made a lot of updates and changes to keep things fresh, and I’m pretty happy with how things are…

People like to gripe and complain about zerging…but I have no problem zerging…or playing in small groups…or yak running…or playing defense…or sentrying. I find all aspects fun.

I hate RNG on fractal weapons. I’ve run over 600 fractals….got two skins. Neither of them were skins that had any value to me. :-/

Your leveling secrets

1-80: Crafting.

Seriously though…I think leveling with hearts/events/PS is just utterly broken in GW2. I have had to farm 2-3 zones at a time to actually level my characters. The back and forth in zones is a total buzkill. The events are just too rare and nothing awards enough experience. If there was a constant stream of events it would be one thing. The problem is that events are far too sparse.

I wandered around as a lvl 2 asura thief for 30 minutes in the level 2-3 metrica area without a single event starting. I finally said screw it and leveled in WvW. Got to lvl 10 in 3 hours of WvW.

I have five characters.

One I leveled traditionally, hopping zones to other zones of the same level in order to gain the needed experience.

Second I leveled about 30% by running AC over and over. The rest of it was traditional.

Third I leveled to 20, then crafted to 80.

Fourth I crafted all the way to 80.

Fifth, I’m currently leveling in WvW.

Their “normal” leveling path is just busted…

You will need to report this via the support section of the website. They really need a “exploiting” option in the report options in-game.

You’ll also want to remove this player’s name from the thread or it will probably be deleted and you’ll be infracted.

WvW Water Crashing...

Well, they’re probably getting droves of crash reports from all the players crashing.

Every post-patch-patch that came out has had me excited for the fix…only to be disappointed that it wasn’t included. :-/

I would really just love to have this fixed. It’s especially frustrating when there are long queue times…

WvW Water Crashing...

So…we’ve had people dropping like flies in WvW because of random game crashes when people enter water. If a zerg goes through the water it’s almost a guarantee that you’re going to lose several people to the crashes.

It’s so bad it’s become a joke and people are taking bets on who’s going to be the next person who crashes. Taking/entering Bay is especially daring these days.

This has been happening since the culling change came out and we all submit crash reports every time it happens.

It’s been two weeks since this started happening. I, myself, have at LEAST one crash every day due to this. When can we expect a fix?

Seriously, Kaineng? TC had SM 90% capped. It was 2800 supplies, aka max upgrades, and you had to ruin that flip. You would have benefitted from that as well, you know. Taking a wooden Stonemist is A LOT easier than taking a fully upgraded Stonemist, and it rewards the same PPT. I really have to facepalm at that. Ridiculous.

I was the KN commander last night on EB until about 4am and I don’t remember seeing TC even kill the lord, much less start capping. At no point when I was on the map last night did SMC have more than 100 supply, much less 2800. I don’t know where you’re getting that from, but I do know that we put an awful lot of pressure on them considering we were outmanned. Hell, I think we came closer to taking out the lord’s room siege than you guys did. At least while I was there.

Anyway, maybe you’re referring to something that happened after I left (I logged at 4am on the dot EST), but even if you are SMC did not have 2800 supply lol

We killed the lord several times and started capping a few as well. (Between midnight and 3am)

We almost were able to take advantage of your OL push though. We didn’t get to SM inner in time and they’d already repelled you. :/
