I don’t like the idea of just having a “MF notification” for party members. I prefer the ascended gear that has a lot of stats on the same piece. These always come with MF as well…which I really don’t care about or want. Unless they can actually inspect my gear SET and not just my MF , I’m fine with it. Just showing them that I have a constant 30 MF would never work.

Dunno. I think TC just has leadership burnout, FA has been there before and it corrects itself after a while, when new commanders or fresh WvWers are encouraged to step up to the plate and learn the ropes. It’s silly to say that some servers are affected more by finals, PvE events or “having more militia and less hardcore wvw guilds”

I’m pretty sure there’s a large amount of WvW medium/heavyweight guilds on TC these days, some original and some new. I barely see TC guys who aren’t following or tagged with the common WvW guilds like DIS, PiNK, CERN, TV, TSL, CYN, Pro, KH, NAGA, Awe, ZN to name a few off the top of my head.. hell, even most of TC’s posts in the match up threads have DIS, KH or PiNK in their sig.

Out of curiosity, what qualifies a server to be a “militia server”? Or is it the same thing as random FA posters calling our server a “GvG/PvP server”.. ?

I think the burnout is part of it, and it also lends itself to answering your militia server question.

We have a few “big-name” (popular, well loved, talented) commanders that bring the militia (PuGs and mixed guild groups) out in droves. When people see they’re commanding, they pour into WvW.

These commanders haven’t really been playing much since the DB reset. Some of them I’ve not seen on at all. I know of a few specific ones who are dealing with finals and RL stuff that is completely keeping them out of the game.

Our coordinated megazergs are almost entirely dependent on them showing up and making it happen. It’s one of our biggest strengths and also one of our biggest weaknesses.

SO! I’m sure they’ll be back once all their school and life stuff has been resolved… If we drop to 3rd, or T3, in the meantime, it’s all good. Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve dropped down, rallied, and climbed back up. Hopefully that doesn’t happen though!

The worst part about the de-stealth traps is that they target only a specific group of players. That’s pretty lousy.

The supply stealing traps are just a mind-bogglingly stupid, stupid, stupid idea. No idea what someone was smoking when they came up with that.

This is a weird thing going on the last two weeks… Our WvW guilds aren’t transferring off the server or anything. They’re all still here… They’re just not really playing WvW all that much. It’s very strange.

I think if there’s one thing ANet has been excellent at, it’s been balance.

I’ve had my butt kicked by (and kicked the butts of) rangers, eles, thieves, warriors, guardians, OK, just insert ALL of the classes here.

You can become very skilled and effective at any class and romp most players of other classes with your specialty.

My post was to prove that it DOESN’T help MF. I’ve spent a lot of money in gems. A lot more than most people have. I get absolute crap for loot in high level fractals. I haven’t got anything but a blue or green out of a fractal chest in over a month.

I got 15/25 clovers in those first 25 tries, but the next 25 tries easily made up for the early success.

Buying gems does not seem to increase MF chance at all.

Zergs are a part of the game. They are fun. They add a great deal of enjoyment to great numbers of players.

They do not need to be “fixed” or “stopped” or whatever. Implementing any kind of game-breaking change such as removing the AoE cap would cause players to leave GW2 and WvW in droves. The reason zerging is so popular is because MOST PEOPLE ENJOY IT.

If you want objective based combat on a SMALL scale…you’re in the wrong game, or at least in the wrong part of GW2. You can do your 8v8 combat in the HotM and leave my WvW alone, tyvm.

If you don’t want to be a part of a zerg, look for a havok team, or a guild that specializes in havok play.

I would suggest a roughly 50% discount on transfers when moving to a server that’s lower in the placement from your own.

For instance: JQ transfers to Mag would only cost 800 gems. I say 800, because that’s an even $10 purchase.

This would encourage auto-balancing.

Put trigger-able AoE everywhere :P Necromancers are able to lay down marks with their staff, & Rangers are able to lay down traps.

What is condition removal while stealth. You realize we cant do kitten to thieves right? black powder heartseeker oh look he just cleansed everything i put on him

Its not about the conditions. It’s about catching him. You would have to drop the marks/traps and then stick around to keep watch.

I’m quite enjoying the buff to arrowcarts. It’s forced myself and the small groups I play with in WvW to implement new tactics to overcome something that’s actually quite dangerous now. The buff probably is a bit too strong, but I’m liking how things have been changed up suddenly. Maybe the damage increase shouldn’t be applied to siege weapons?

I agree w/ this guy. I don’t see what the problem is. This change is making it much harder to PvDoor. It’s forcing teams to try new things. And note, towers, keeps, and castles are still flipping in WvW. It hasn’t broken anything. I’m liking it very much. Devs, please keep it!!

I’m liking certain aspects of it and hating others. I’m willing to grudgingly admit that things haven’t been as bad the last couple days as they were at first, and some kind of balance seems to have been achieved.

I would just love to see open field combat ACs nerfed back to their original strength, and siege should be more resistant to ACs.

Defense, especially when undermanned, is far easier. You also have to play differently when going on the offense. Sun Tzu kinda summed it up well: “Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

Rush in on enemy fortifications which are unmanned, keep the enemy from reaching the portal, attack when the enemy least expects it, or are occupied defending something they care more about, etc.

A good example of this was Mendons yesterday. I had the zerg playing defense for about an hour, pushing FA and DB out of our territory over and over. Out of “seemingly” nowhere, we rushed from durios over to mendons before they had a chance to get any people inside to defend. We blocked several FA from getting inside, fought off a small zerg of FA heading in from speld, and were able to take it just under 4 minutes before the tick. Had two FA made it inside and been on ACs…the whole thing would have been for naught.

In THAT respect, it encourages zerging. A ten man group would probably not have been able to do what we did.

What do you guys think about unlinking the waypoint’s contested status from the structure’s contested status? That way we can all still get our “under attack” notification ASAP, but waypoints would only become unavailable at a time that makes more sense.

I suggest reverting each structure’s contested mechanics as they were before the recently added 30 second wait, and making it so that waypoints are only contested if one of more part of the structure (walls or gates) is under 75% health.

The last thing I want is an enemy to get instant reinforcements every time we kill some of their guys when pushing into an enemy keep. Contested keeps should = contested waypoints.

This boxes are crap. I buy 250 two weeks ago, after open all i get 2 lodestones (YES TWO: 1 cristal and 1 Molten, the most cheap of all lodestones), 4 mini, 1 tonic, some shards and trash. The most big waste of karma.

That’s highly irregular… Most people get FAR more than that out of the boxes.

Make 100g in an hour? Video showing you doing it or it didn’t happen.

Even the karma thing isn’t actually making 100g in an hour. The hour is just how long it took to get through drinking karma juice and opening the boxes you spent the karma on. How many hours did it take of playing to get the karma? Divide the amount of gold by the number of hours to really see how much gold per hour this gets you.

You can pretty much consider karma gain as passive income. Just play the game and the karma will come.

We all want GvG arenas though.

It’s true that he’s a bit on the extreme side, but I think people who want GvG would get more value by using him as an example of the issues the lack of GvG is causing WvW, as opposed to responding with insults.

A well formed argument would have been accepted cordially.

He is just on a trolling rant against anyone who duels/GvGs in WvW.

He’s not interested in getting GvG added to the game. He just wants his version of justice for a group of people that he feels have wronged him… Problem is that he admitted to starting the fight in the first place. Not sure what he expected.

I fully support Guilds and players using WvW as a setting for matchups while there’s still a lack of ANet support on that side. I sincerely hope ANet has plans to add something like this, since it’s been asked for since launch.

I don’t know why you want to “fix” zerging.

I love being a part of a zerg or leading zergs. I also love playing in small groups of 5-10.

Zerging is just people naturally pulling together because there is strength in numbers.

It’s not a problem, and it shouldn’t be “solved.”

Do you think the outcome of that portal would have been any different if I had not known? You stacked DIRECTLY in front of me. We saw you buffing, we saw the portal come down, we saw the mesmer running towards us. It really was just common sense that a portal was coming. It was actually good on you guys that you used it for more of a distraction than anything else. Burned 1/3rd of our CC on it.

That one portal? Who knows. I don’t, because I wasn’t there. But I’m going to guess you fought us more than once on reset night and yes, things probably went down differently than they would have had you not had a spy in our TS. I’m not going to bash you for it, but at the same time people should be aware of what happened; it’s not like you guys just straight-up stomped CO, you had help and you can see it in the video itself.

Anyway, it wasn’t my intention to link the spy to VK but that doesn’t change the fact that you used him. I don’t actually know what guild he’s in, so I was careful to leave your tag out of my post. I actually wasn’t going to bring it up here at all until I saw that video.

As I said man, Spies can only get you too the fight. They can’t win it for you.

Now you are simply making wild accusations based on nothing more than a 1 way PM to me while I was in combat. You see me reply to him? No I didn’t think so .

I know he was there because I’ve spoken to him about it. If you hadn’t used him, you would have shot back with “I blocked him,” not “It’s just a one-way PM and I didn’t respond.” They could all have been one way PMs, it’s still using a spy to read and react to them.

Still, I can’t stress enough that I’m not buttmad over this. We did fine on reset and I’m happy on DB. Inasmuch as ANet can’t really do anything about it, TS spies are a part of the WvW meta, and the only way we can do anything about them is to be diligent about identifying and rooting them out. Unfortunately, on Friday, we weren’t.

ACs being vastly more dangerous is forcing us to rethink many of our tired and frankly lazy strategies. Now a small team can defend a keep against a larger force which was the point IMO. ACs may have been a shortcut to that goal, but defenders should have a substantial advantage over attackers.

In a couple months without any change, we will have adapted and few will remember the days of weaker ACs.

They just need to fix the ACs doing so much damage to siege, and do something about the open-field fighting problems.

People love ZvZ open field fighting. The enhanced ACs are just a negative-fun factor there. It’s really the fun factor thing that needs to be addressed.

Well Dueling and GvG are two different things in my eyes. I see dueling as 1v1. I agree they need to just add a Team Deathmatch mode in sPvP for GvG.

I would say that the dueling stuff benefits from WvW as well because it’s a set place that people can meet up. All servers pretty much know…behind the windmill in a borderland will probably have people waiting for duels.

The alternative would be to have a set of “typically unused” sPvP servers that people can go into and there would be organized duels going on. The downside is that you end up with match resets and stuff all the time which would be really annoying.

ANet just needs to add real dueling, or dueling areas, into the game.

There’s generally custom dueling games setup in sPvP now. This is where the fight clubs should go IMO. I’m not against fight clubs, but just seems to be the easier way to set them up or find them and duel/spectate.

Can’t really do Guild v Guild stuff afaik. If you wanna do 20v20 or something…that’s too many players.

Plus, the setup is all wrong. You can’t do real open field combat in a small arena.

ANet really needs to add a guild-v-guild “game type” of some kind. I never played GW1, but I’ve heard that the guild battles were kinda amazing there. It’s a real shame that that whole idea got dropped during the GW2 design.

What’s the deal with spies? They’re doing their job just as those arrow cart farmers. War has no rules.

Yeah, I know of no spies personally, but as far as I’m concerned…it’s all part of the meta. Some people get really bent out of shape about it, but I just figure it’s a little spice added to the recipe.

Exactly lol.. It adds to it; it’s more fun. It’s extra elements which WvW I think severely needs.

I will say, I’d ban anyone identified as a spy from mumble, with pleasure. THAT is also part of the meta. :-P

I remember when I first saw your new guild tag Eve and I was like, “Really cool Guild moniker!”.
Yeah, I’m a fan . Also howdy T2! Just poking my nose in and surreptitiously sneaking cookies from Jayne’s cookie pantry, Don’t mind me…. ^^

I’ve been rather disheartened by how few people recognize the Kwisatz Haderach reference in their guild name. I’ve read all of Frank Herbert’s Dune series, and one or two of his son’s.

KH is a great crew, to be sure. Really fun to follow around, and really fun to have on the map with you. They’re skilled and good natured in my experience.

Good times on TC BL tonight. Had a lot fun! FA and DB kept us on our toes. Here’s hoping FA BL gets sorted out and stops crashing. It’s no fun when you can’t play your home BL. Sorry to you all, it can’t be easy dealing with that.

I’ll warn you though, the series gets downright tangential by the time all is said and done. Some of it is downright jarring. :-P Still a must-read though, for any serious connoisseur of sci-fi.

After the AC change, golems are way less viable too. I witnessed a 35+ golem rush on hills and were able to take down NW Outer gate, but only had like 2-3 remaining once inside outer gate, and the remaining 3 just melted due to AC (as did all the others) very quickly.

tbh, thats just sad, even with the AC buff, which i hate, 35 golems should be able to take the first gate in like 30seconds or less, idk how u failed there unless they were opening fire on you before ur golems even got to the gate.

It was SoR who did that. I was manning one of the golems and yes, the gate went down like butter, but seeing 130k HP drop to zero in like 10 seconds is kind of depressing.

I put 30 points into AC and I dont even care if they nerf them and I lose 30 points, just make them reasonable again.

This is the kinda story that really makes me sad about the change. Even if they melted troops, stuff like golems and rams shouldn’t really be taking much damage from ACs. The only way 35 golems should be killed in a push like that is if all of hell is raining down on them.

To be fair, the port up to the gate was botched, however, there were so many darn ACs that couldn’t be easily cleared (both outer/inner) that it wouldn’t have mattered as much. You see the distance and radius on the ACs make it much harder to take them down. You literally have to get lucky to have not much of a force defending with ACs coupled with bad placements and non-ranked ppl on the ACs to have a good chance. Which we finally had today with 9 golems. 6 melted after taking the outer door, had to flash build 3 more once inside and take inner after clearing siege. Luckily the enemy didn’t show up in the numbers they could have and we barely took it with that compliment. If Hills was well defended with proper AC placement and ranked ppl on them, plus a modest compliment of defenders (20 or so), it’s simply dead hard to near impossible to take hills. :P

I’ve been with groups that have defeated 40+ assaulters with about 15 in hills… and that was before this last patch…

They had 35 golems, not players.

Well, they are the ones that is destroying WvW for those of us that actually want to play, by making queues and not doing anything useful at all.

I’ve never once run into a queue because of a GvG or dueling. I figure if they wanna duel…more power to ‘em. It’s a great way to satisfy an itch that ANet hasn’t provided an in-game method to scratch.

My caveat to this is that…if you are dueling and you get run over by a zerg…get over it. And if you run up on dueling and pick a fight with the people there and get stomped…you can also get over it.

It was SoR who did that. I was manning one of the golems and yes, the gate went down like butter, but seeing 130k HP drop to zero in like 10 seconds is kind of depressing.

I put 30 points into AC and I dont even care if they nerf them and I lose 30 points, just make them reasonable again.

This is the kinda story that really makes me sad about the change. Even if they melted troops, stuff like golems and rams shouldn’t really be taking much damage from ACs. The only way 35 golems should be killed in a push like that is if all of hell is raining down on them.

Yeah, I know of no spies personally, but as far as I’m concerned…it’s all part of the meta. Some people get really bent out of shape about it, but I just figure it’s a little spice added to the recipe.

1) Thanks for the fun fights in EBG earlier in the Umber/Ogre area. It was nice to engage in some truly fun ZvZ stuff post-AC-patch. I’m sure we provided lots of bags for one another.
2) Really sorry to hear about your connectivity issues in FABL. Hope they get it fixed for ya. I know our guys came back from there tonight saying the lag and disconnections were out of control.

The AC changes force you to adopt new strategies. You can’t just roll your zerg up to the front gates now, drop a few sup rams, and expect to take a keep/tower. Give it some time and people will come up with new ways to deal with AC’s and things will be fine.

You should fix your statement to say simply “You can’t roll up to a gate with a force of any size and expect to use rams to take it.”

I agree there’s a problem; 3 or 4 times already in this thread I’ve stated that my vote goes to making siege weapons invulnerable to AC fire (no more killing rams, catas, or even Golems with ACs) and rolling back the damage from its current 80% to 50%.

So most of the complaining in this tread is centered around the AC dmg dealt to siege,

No it’s not. Most of the whining in this thread is about how ACs have ruined open field PvP and about how it’s now impossible to attack an objective without being slaughtered by overpowered arrow carts. I’ve seen some people kittening about how their rams and golems are being melted, but clearly not the majority.

The topic has shifted, but the two things that need to be addressed are 1) general (open field, etc) combat, and 2) the fact that putting up rams against a tower, or getting in a golem, are both nearly pointless now.

I really don’t even mind that ACs might kill players easier if they’re inside a tower shooting OUTward. But in the middle of a field? ACs have no place playing a big role in a field-fight. And having a ram wiped in seconds by ACs? That’s just stupid. At least if the ram was tough the players could rotate out….but as it stands there’s no point. You use a treb….and an arrow cart. Those are pretty much the only things that matter anymore.

Colin will there ever be a part of Fractals that allow us to play a recap of old content?
Stuff like that would be a win-win for those who want Fractals and others who long to play older stuff as well.

When I said we could update or change an existing dungeon, updating fractals in the future is one of the options that’s fully possible yes. And of course since fractals lets us experience moments trapped in time….it’s entirely possible some content may make its way there as part of a living world update.

This would be fantastic. Returning to the new dungeon in a fractal in a shortened/modified version would be incredible.

The final boss fight in the new dungeon stands as one of the best in the game, imho.

Actually, they aren’t as big as a problem as you say they are. I’ve seen open field arrow carts built all the time post-patch too, both on my own side and the enemy side. We’ve managed to destroy theirs, and they managed to destroy ours suffering minimal losses. All you need is to be able to do is to flank. An arrow cart can’t cover all spaces at once.

Prepare for answers like “We never used to have to flank before; why do we have to start now?” and of course, the hilarious “You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. When two zergs meet whoever drops the first AC wins”, spouted in this very thread 2-3 pages back.

Deciding to flank while already engaged in head-to-head combat is a risky prospect under the BEST of circumstances. You are a classic armchair quarterback…

What happens if you ARE flanking at the time? What happens if a flank is impossible because of the terrain? There are a nearly unlimited list of reasons why what you’re suggesting is impractical or impossible in the vast majority of cases.

There’s no “armchair” about it; I’ve done it in the game. Others have stated in this thread that they have done it in the game too; ergo, it is proven to work. It’s not foolproof (nothing is) but it works. Adapt.

What would I do if the terrain didn’t let me flank? I’d fall back, bait the enemy into a place where I COULD flank them, kill them, and then move on while they all ran back from their spawn. That works too; I know, I’ve fallen for it before. There’s no part of the map so restrictive that you can’t go through or around another force for very long…

It looks to me like you freeze when presented with a simple deviation from the norm. “Oh kitten, they dropped arrow carts and we can’t flank them. Push in!!”

No wonder ACs give you such fits.

I think you need your posting privileges revoked until you hold true on your promise to prove your invulnerability to 8 arrow carts. Let’s see those videos! More than anything, this claim made me realize you’re just a bona-fide troll…

This may sound odd, but you remind me of the British trying to fight the Minutemen back in the Revolutionary War. It sounds like you’re looking for nice, neat organized combat and upset that the Minutemen are using guerrilla tactics against you.

Yes, ACs hit hard enough now that they can have an impact on a battle. If you let them.

Ironic that you should quote the art of war while most thoroughly misunderstanding it…

Terrain, for instance, makes up about half of the Art of War. If it was as simple as FLANK FLANK FLANK, it would be one thing…but you’re suggesting a blanket tactic that is downright idiotic in the majority of cases.

Also, the idea Sun Tzu et al supports is that you never fight unless you absolutely have to, and then only when you know you’re going to win “without a doubt.” That’s a great thing in real life. It’s also a really really boring way to play a game.

There are LOTS of things in the Art of War that can be applied to WvW when it comes to actually being in combat. If you want to follow all of it to a T, you’re going to end up with three zergs on the map, holed up in keeps and towers, making faces at each other.

There is something wrong when I can stand in them and not die and I’m just using the AOE field to get my adrenaline up so my earthshaker would be ready for the push.

It doesn’t matter that you couldn’t instantly die standing in AC fire. It’s fun/playability that I’m worried about. Realism doesn’t even enter in the equation, and it shouldn’t.
