Again with the zerg whining.

Zerging is not a problem.

Zerging never has been a problem.

Zerging is one of many ways to play the game.

Zerging is preferred by many and hated by others.

I would imagine that the people who whine about zergs, find themselves in zergs more often than not.

Yes. I do actually. Because I don’t feel as if there’s any other option… It’ll take more than 5 people to fight an entire enemy zerg, and other than the occasional thief that’s really all t1 offers, or taking a supply camp on occasion.

Only once did I enjoy the zerg, and that was when we took jq Valley, where I can see a need for zerging. But that doesn’t really happen often.

So the moral of the story is that you do it, while professing to hate it.

Sounds like you’re playing the wrong game.

More than anything I think they need to make structural changes to some of the WvW maps. They’re highly imbalanced at the moment. Being in a particular position gives you a more or less likely chance of winning, and that shouldn’t be the case.

Hills vs Bay is a great example of this. People have been talking about this since launch and nothing has been done yet.

Lowlands keep in EB is incredibly imbalanced. It’s twice as hard to take as either of the other keeps.

The entire red sector in EB needs a massive overhaul. Just looking at the placement of structures on the map alone makes that obvious. Seriously…people come on to the map and are like “We got Anz to T3? I didn’t even realize that was possible…”

Honestly, I’d rather they overhaul the maps before making ANY other changes to WvW. They’re just, plain, broken.

I don’t get it. I didn’t know TC had that strong a SEA force at all!!

Shouldn’t most people be at work at this time of day?

We have tons of folks who took a two week break when you guys just got into the tier. They’re back now.

Nightlight has been known for running during the SEA timeslot in the past, so I’m sure him coming back today has made a big difference.

We are not planning on adding a new currency to handle Ascended items in WvW.

Bring on the purples with badges, thanks, I got 9k I didnt spend yet just waiting! 1k each would be a good price IMO.

I’m sure there are plenty of us with this happening.

Only those who don’t buy siege. I spend every badge on siege, and then spend my gold on top of that….

My server doesnt let siege despawn or doesnt own anything. So I have no need to buy siege with badges, plus we generally own the EB puzzle and run everyone through and they donate their siege to commanders. If you’re wasting badges on siege youre doing it very wrong.

My suggestion to you is to lvl mesmer to 15 or something and get portal, and go stand in EB and have a friend shout in Lions Arch that youre doing the puzzle and for everyone to go get their daily chest and donate the siege to your war effort. Doing that for even an hour a day would get you an unGodly amount of siege if its not occurring at all on your server.

Interesting, so you re-use your rams? Offensive trebs? Temporary siege placed inside single-tick caps? That’s fascinating. Please tell us how you manage this.

Also, in case you haven’t played in the last couple days (or been paying attention for the last couple weeks)…EB no longer has a jumping puzzle.

TC got a handful of transfers a couple weeks ago (and I think FA might have as well), but overall, the people who are on TC stay on TC. The same goes for FA. We both have burnout weeks, and we both come back strong every time. We have an incredible amount of “server pride” and most of us wouldn’t transfer off regardless of WvW performance or standing. We’re far more similar than we would probably like to admit. :-P

DB will just have to be careful to avoid the KN scenario. A lot of people transferred to KN with the hope that KN would end up a T1 server. When it became clear that that wasn’t going to happen…KN fell apart. I don’t think DB, as a whole, has massive aspirations for T1, but some of the recent transfers might. If they can hold on to them anyway, that’s awesome. If they can’t, they will just have to be careful that they don’t suffer as a result.

I’m by no means pronouncing doom and gloom for DB, just hoping they don’t end up the latest in a long stream of stuff we’ve all seen before.

If we suddenly lost every guild that transferred over recently, we’d be bouncing between T2 & T3. I realize that the idea of an eventual collapse being as simple as subtracting the newer people is a bit absurd, but I think it does show we’ve got a pretty solid core of loyal players as well.

Kain was a different animal, gaining enough players while still in T8 to be a T2, arguably T1 caliber server. Of course that was all compounded by free transfers and their eventual end, but the point remains.

I just remember what happened when DB/Mag/TC faced off in T3, before DB got their transfers. It was a bit of a slaughter back then…

What I’d really like would be a nice 3-way split of population, skill, and coverage for T2. I hate that things swing around so wildly. It’d be nice to have a nice, stable tier to play in.

Dragonbrand has closed insanely worse deficits before. You haven’t participated in competitive match-ups in a long time huh? Or did you trick yourself into thinking Dragonbrand was this sort of super-monster-server and T2’s match-ups were decided already? We’re a T2 server just like FA and TC – 99.8% of Dragonbrand knows it – certain posters just hyped us up and you seem to have bought into it.

No I think dragonbrand tricked itself by challenging TC/FA to get them below 200 ppt. Yeah, we won’t forget that one.

Bulletin board material is exactly that, but I seriously doubt it’s a factor even worth mentioning in the actual score.

I’m not buying it. The forum stuff spreads like wildfire, at least on FA.. pretty much every WvW based guild has at least a couple people lurking, plus the server VoIP and zone based chats/private forums tend to mention topics from these forums often enough.

Same with TC. If a scandal happens on the forums, the full TC WvW population is gonna know about it. Most of the ridiculous rants and trolls are met with laughs, but they have a subliminal ability to make us fight harder. I’m sure that’s the case everywhere.

If JQ stabilizes, it’s going to take a massive collapse of either TC or FA (and at least two weeks of demolishing them) for DB to move out.

Things tend to snowball, hopefully JQ does stabilize, but most servers do not. Too many guilds that like to be carried and bail at the first sign of hardship.

The interesting thing about JQ is that they have a large amount of smaller guilds, so a snowball effect is far less likely. During SEA they were ticking at 500+ ppt , granted that SOR and BG called it a match, but stuff like that will help them maintain their ELO. I honostly, as a keen observer of wvw, that if a server goes on to full implosion, it will be BG before JQ. Also, keep in mind that JQ is only around 25k points behind BG….. hardly a massive collapse that is required.

The way im seeing things evolve right now, is that JQ will be in tier 1 for a loooooooong time. Sorry DB, but the math is most definitely not in your favor to reach tier 1.

I don’t want to completely ruin the surprise but you should hear something big from us in the coming weeks about this very topic.

Last time Anet speak about “something big” in WvW, it was for the “awesome” WvW patch … and we all see there was nothing…

Hope this time we will not disappointed… ofc if “big” is only for a new formula..

They fixed culling. They could have stopped WvW improvements right there and I’d have been happy.

Nobody that knows TC and FA will ever take any of you guys making this claim seriously. It is pretty clear that the two servers will never get along well enough to do something like that in any coordinated fashion. Dragonbrand wouldn’t be winning so often if TC and FA didn’t spend so much time trying to kill each other without thinking about trying to win the match.

I wasn’t hoping to be taken seriously. It was a joke.

Traps are a mechanic with a lot of potential, they need a lot of work to get there, but taking them out completely is a terrible solution.

At this point taking out Traps is a very good move for WvW. Traps are just, simply broken.
The use of Traps is completely pointless. They are far to expensive with such a small chance of seeing it inflict meaningful damage. The only way for Traps, specifically Supply Trap because the Reveal Trap is just useless, to be usefull is if you can get them to go off right in the middle of the enemy zerg. And only Thieves can manage that.

So you have a tool that to everyone, except Thieves, is not worth the investment of 15badges and 10 supply, because a simple scout that any reasonable zerg sends ahead will either see you place it, or accidentally trigger it. Meaning you wasted 10supply and 15 badges to give 1 person 30sec revealed, or take 5 supply if he even had any at all.

And then there are Thieves, who can make these go off consistently inside enemy zergs, and suddenly Traps are rediculously good. There is so much wrong with Traps and its more then obvious that this is a work in progress thats in a very infant stage. So scraping it and comming back to it when they work better, are more balanced and the system is more fleshed out is not a bad idea at all.

They scapped Orbs for the same reason. They really need to go back to the drawing board on these.

No, it’s not a terrible solution. It’s the correct one.

Instead of using them logistically or purposefully, enemies are just dropping them randomly on the field in the middle of zerg fights. Or on mining nodes. Or any other number of troll locations.

All the thinks you name really strengthen Hickeroar point, not yours.
It should not be able to put them into a zerg so thats an implementation error. That would be gone with better implementation. Putting them on mining-nodes does not seem trolling to me but seems to be smart, the enemy has then be so smart to send a scout ahead to trigger them.

So more tactics

That’s not tactics. That’s having to work around a bad game mechanic. It’s not fun, and doesn’t add -anything- valuable to the game.

Wasting 15 badges and 525 karma + 10 supply to drop a trap on a mining node? That’s a troll move. Zergs, or small groups, do not stack up on mining nodes. Only someone trolling the enemy would do that.

why did anet feel a REAL need to invest dev time on a new feature that literally no one has asked for?

Almost everybody asked for more tactics and less zerging and a lot os people have complained about the invisibility by thiefs.

The traps give the option for more tactics and to do something about the invisibility. It might help a little against zerging but not a lot I think.

So basically many people asked for it. The problem is the implementation is not so good and because of the the traps do not give what they should give. But if that got fixed and the traps would be cheaper they will be a good tool. So the traps are not the problem, there implementation is.

So instead of addressing thieves being “too invisible,” they nerfed mesmers…since they’re really the only ones impacted by the stealth traps.

And instead of making groups smaller, they made them bigger because you need more people to soak up the damage percentage a supply trap can inflict on your supply count.

ANet adding traps had nothing to do with either of those complaints. It’s a bad design decision, plain and simple.

They are not a mechanic with a lot of potential. They are a troll’s tool, best used in trolling the other team. They need to be removed. They were a pointless addition, only made “safe” for the game by virtue of the fact that they’re expensive.

Hah, what feels wrong about this transfer, compared to all the other ones, was that it was a stack onto an already dominant timeslot.
I didn’t mind the IOJ Oceanics going to FA, the CD SEA crew to TC, the NA groups going to DB. But when you stack onto an already dominant timeslot, it kinda hints that you want to
1. help push a server to another bracket
or
2. don’t want to be challenged and become stronger.
That being said, Omen does not field much right now, so it kinda lost itself in the sea of red DB names. You guys should of gone to FA, or even lower CD/SBI. Anyhow, welcome to T2!

They cover the Oceanic slot which DB had zero guilds. SEA =/= Oceanic. If we get more SEA guilds, I think our guys would get bored

They’re not already? TC probably fields about 50 people total during much of the SEA timeslot, and by the look of it, FA is fielding less than that.

If PvDooring undefended structures down day after day isn’t already boring….I don’t know what is. DBs SEA coverage is kinda amazing.

But yes, DB’s NA/Oceanic coverage is lacking. Not gonna hurt anything to bolster yourselves there.

I get this feeling that DB will be in T2 longer then they intended. Between the competition and glicko, no one is going to T1 unless one of those servers drop.

I could spend the next 6 months in tier 2.

I would rather be a stable tier 2 server than have one week in tier 1 and then lose all the guilds to, what is apparently, a lot of pressure up there.

You and me both. I personally have -NO- desire to be in T1, and I’ve been pretty vocal about that from the get-go.

In my twisted brain (and I mean this good naturedly):

T2: We be scalawags from the high seas!
T3: “Hey coach, can I play??! Please!!?”

No one really wants the things. They’re pretty much a game-breaking concept.

I mean…supply stealing? That’s messing with a perfectly balanced, and well established, piece of the metagame. They might as well have added badge-stealing or silver-stealing traps. I hope people look at the price and universally say “I’d never buy that.” The concept of a supply stealing trap is complete and utter lunacy.

The only reason I’m not upset that they added them (anymore) is that their use is going to be rare due to the fact that the price is actually in-line with the idiotic impact of having them.

Seriously….someones boss at ANet needs to drag them into an office and slap them silly over that ridiculous idea.

Worth more? No way.

More Rare? Not currently, but eventually, yes. I still see far more fused weapons than Legendaries.

No one would pay 2500 gold for a fused weapon, though.

Value is not measured by rarity.

Here’s one, Hugh. Why do traps cost more than a Catapult in both badges and karma (catapults cost 0)?

It’s probably a question of balance/impact.

Traps, if cheap, would be dropped EVERYWHERE and would end up being a major impediment to playing the game at all. Can you imagine if they were as cheap as arrow carts?

As it stands, their price keeps them from being abused.

I think there was a lot of panic going on over nothing. I’ll admit, I panicked a bit myself at first.

So, Arrow carts gets nerfed BIG time, 50% less damage to siege, but no point reset.

I do not understand how it is possible that ANet treats their customers like this. Really, I don’t. 50% damage nerf and no reset. 50% !!!

How can you justify this towards us?

It’s 50% less on the increase. It’s still 140% of its original value…down from 180%.

They already said they’re gonna do a point reset too. :-P

Sounds like you should find a good large WvW guild to find the amount of teamwork and coordination you want. Every server has their share of noob PUG’, not one is different from the other in those terms. Its a guild you seek.

This is pretty much it. When it’s just the militia on the map, you really have to get some kind of momentum going in order to maintain any organization.

An organized guild sounds like it’s in order for you.

Conclusion

Guild Wars 2 failed. By ArenaNet’s own definition of success, “Is it fun?”, the answer often is “no, it’s not”. Good for them that the community of grinders that fill this (and all other) MMO are not really interested in fun.

My advice is: play through the tutorial, and then go explore the world. Do all the interesting dynamic events you find, admire the beautifully crafted world, listen to all the ambient dialogues, dig through all the lore you can find; do that from the starting areas all the way to right before you enter Orr. Ignore hearts, the personal story, dungeons, and definitely ignore the “lesser” aspects of the game (trading, crafting, item acquisition, etc). Once you have explored everything other than Orr, leave the game and never look back.

A couple million people disagree with you.

The game is a ton of fun, and it’s the only game that’s kept my interest this long….ever.

I’m surprised everyone didn’t leave WvW for Southsun. When else are you going to be able to say you fought off a bad case of crabs without meaning something horrific?

Well honestly it takes maybe an hour at most to get both the back pieces, and by that point I think anyone would be sick of southsun :P

The hardest part is just finding those sample spots. An hour is definitely right if you have a guild telling you where they are.

Moral of the story: Read a guide!
