My guess is that they’re trying to find the sweet spot for the dyes, and tweaking the drop rate behind the scenes…

Too many soulbound/account bound items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I would be more OK with all the soulbound stuff if each character had (in addition to the current account bank) a character specific set of bank space. I have a lot of crap in my bank that is only usable by one of my characters, but all characters are impacted by it being stored in the bank.

I definitely agree with things being account bound, like the previous poster mentioned about dungeon tokens. Being able to sell tokens would destroy the economy.

Healing in GW2: How to.

I did Guardian Healing for a few weeks and it’s VERY effective. Had several people comment as such. I’m in the process of converting to Guardian Control though because the healing got boring to me. Control can be just as effective in that you stack toughness and vitality, then stay alive while generating aggro on the mobs…which in turn protects other players.

Stats on Ascended rings

More Rings? There are like 30 possible rings available right now.

Also, there are a couple that boost ALL the stats if I remember right. Those are the ones I’ll be going for. They’re at the bottom of the list of rings.

If you want specific boosts, I’d say to get one ring that features Power, and another that features Condition Damage.

Guild Wars 2 at top of charts!

So, Guild Wars 2 has now gone to the top of the PC download charts once more, beating pre-orders for Tomb Raider, Far-Cry 3 and more (no pandas to be seen!).

http://m.pcgamer.com/2012/12/14/resurgent-guild-wars-2-tops-pc-download-chart

Not bad for a game months after it’s release.

Also, not bad for the ‘dying’ game we hear so much about.

So congratulations Anet for creating a wonderful and successful game.

The game may not be perfect, it may be frustrating at times – but it is still a pleasure to play and I am looking forward to where Anet will take GW2 in the future.

MoP expansion sold more then GW2 did at launch. Not bad for a an 8 year old game against the “Second coming of MMO’s and the almighty GW2”.

From GW2 launch to now the number of people logging in has declined rapidly. And no one said the game was dying but there are plenty of servers where it is like a ghost town and if you go off of the “server status” then that says it all because those are about characters made on that server not people logged in.

Oh and a side note, if you played mmo for awhile you would know expansions don’t keep growing a lot once they are released. GW2 once they release an expansion will have the same thing. Sell a lot then drop off faster then the original game. MoP still sold more then GW2 which is funny.

Uh…I think your statistics are wrong. I’ve read that MoP had only sold 600k copies at launch, which is a massive decrease compared to previous numbers.

GW2 had a couple million out the gate.

I definitely think they need holiday content. No questions asked on this point.

HOWEVER, in light of the monthly stuff they plan on releasing:
There are still bucketloads of broken things in the world and they, in my humble opinion, don’t have any business adding new, also broken content, when they haven’t bothered to fix the current set of bugs that have been well known since Beta.

At this point, the highest priority on their team right now SHOULD be fixing the massive amount of broken content that is there. It’s definitely not.

group events need a fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

Not all events are supposed to be conquerable 100% of the time. That is why they are DYNAMIC events.

Not really the case here. What you end up with is a group of champions walking around the maps -forever- because there will never be enough players there to actually kill them.

The event should judge its severity based on the number of players in the area. If there are only two players around, it should scale from a champion event down to a veteran event. Three veterans would be a real challenge to two players, but three champions? Dream on. Not possible.

I’ve run into this problem on several occasions. I want to complete an event, but there are simply not enough people in the zone interested in doing it…or just not enough people PERIOD.

I think MF has lost significant value since the Nov 15th patch when Anet stealth nerfed the drop rates of many NPCs.

They nerfed it for everyone, using MF or not. MF will still have a noticeable effect, though overall drop rates suck now. Boggles my mind why they nerfed things so badly… Gold is incredibly hard to come across in this game compared to the cost of stuff. You can spend an hour farming out a single gold in a dungeon…and then go craft HALF of a single rare item with it. An hours worth of work should yield a lot more than that.

It’s for precisely this reason that I’ll never build a legendary. You can end up doing three times as much work for the same item as someone else because ANet apparently thinks RNG is OK. It’s a pitiful game dynamic and a total tease. No thanks.

With my healing power boost from my gear and weapons, I do +3265hp on the guardian staff #4 ability. I also traited to grant regen constantly to everyone around me, and have other abilities that stack regen and do other one-off heals. My #2 staff skill heals for 700 as well in its explosion area.

The main difference in healing in this game is that a healer cannot be responsible for keeping a crew alive in GW2. A healer can only HELP (in a big way), while also doling out massive amounts of boons to increase damage, resistance, etc, of other party members, and also doing damage themselves.

Healing is about a lot more than JUST healing now. My guard does medium damage, but hands out so much other helpful stuff as a result, that the groups overwhelmingly benefit by him being there.

T3 needs to be Exotic

Hickeroar.9734

T3 is about the look, not the stats. You’re supposed to transmute that stuff.

This… why spend 120g on T3 cultural exotics when you can spend around 20g or less (depending on the market) on a full exotic armor set with the same stat combinations (if you were really dead set on those particular stats)?

Answer… it’s about the looks, not the stats

Yeah, it will take a LOT less time to get a full set of exotics than it will to save enough gold to get the T3. This basically “screams” that T3 is really only about the look, and they never intended it to be a long term set of gear, statwise.

Given the feedback here, I think Anet would have been better off saying “Sorry about that, it won’t happen again” and just making sure it didn’t happen again. Only two months into the game, mistakes are to be expected. It’s not like you can’t get plenty of exotics by running dungeons for a few hours anyway…

I had a full set of exotic weapons/armor/trinkets for my latest toon before I even got him to 80 just from running dungeons every day while leveling.

There’s basically no reason to have the Ascended gear unless you desire to grind out Fractals. Those who want to grind have a reason to grind and a reward for it. Those who don’t want the grind have no reason to get the gear in the first place, or participate in the grind.

Lion's Arch queue times (unsupported RP plea)

Hickeroar.9734

I know you guys don’t officially support Roleplayers or anything, but nevertheless the roleplayers drive a ton of BLTC sales, and are a huge, active part of the GW2 community. I’m on tarnished coast, and it’s downright hard to go out leveling anywhere these days and NOT find someone RPing. That’s basically me arguing that RPers are worth silently supporting in -some- sense, even if it’s off the record.

Anyway, my point here is that since the Fractals launched, the Lion’s Arch queue times have increased dramatically. RPers often have to wait twenty minutes or more to meet up with guild members (or just solo) for RP in Lion’s Arch during prime hours. Even at 2am, there’s often a 5-10 minute wait now, which never happened before.

Is there any chance you guys could increase the capacity of the Lion’s Arch zone? Even if you increased it by 25% it would probably make a sizable difference.

Thanks for any consideration!

One other note: I wouldn’t use the tome. I would use the avatar of melandru. Protection, healing, and condition removal.

I prefer Renewed Focus. Mostly because it renews the CDs on all of your virtues.

If you have your Virtues feated to provide additional boons it becomes even more useful. You can provide:
——————— 6 stacks of might (10s)
——————— ~5-6k health
——————— ~10s of regeneration
——————— 2 aegis (huge in emergencies)
——————— ~10s of protection

to every teammate and all within 4 seconds.

Just my personal preference though

That’s a really good idea. I still lack the points needed to unlock another elite, but I’ll start saving.

One downed player can chain react into a wipe very quickly…

Here’s my final point.

This is what you are every single fight if you’re not contributing in a meaningful way to the groups overall damage. You are the dead weight of a downed player.

Every class is perfectly capable of surviving via their own means in dungeons. This is not WoW and you do not need a person “dedicated” to keeping other people alive. All this makes you is that “downed player” in every single fight, who’s not contributing.

To be clear, I use a variation of Brutality’s AH Hammer build. I am bringing a ton of damage and AOE to the guild as well as:

- 100% uptime on protection, a 33% damage reduction via my shouts and symbols, which ultimately mitigates far more damage than any healing from your staff.
- Stacks of might via Empower and crits (currently 45% crit rate on my hero tab)
- Stacks of stability, retaliation, regeneration and protection from my shouts, with very high up times on all those buffs.
- Extremely high personal survivability, which means I can jump into the pack of bad guys and take hits my teammates don’t
- Worse case, I can ALSO slot a staff or Tome of Courage, and jump in with a few quick heals at nearly the same effectiveness as your “support” build, if and when they are needed.

But you know what? They rarely are, because my contribution to the team in terms of buffs, damage and survivability help keep the encounters manageable and under-control. And that’s what you need to be an effective player.

So, I guess I’ll leave you with one final, final point.

You are trading off way more overall effectiveness for a marginal increase in what you call “support”. This, in my opinion, makes you more of a liability to the group than a boon, and you should highly, highly reconsider a build that maximizes all the talents a guardian can bring to the group, which includes boons, survivability, healing AND damage, and not nerf yourself because you can’t let go of this fantasy that people have “roles” in GW2.

There are no roles. There are no healers. There are no tanks. There’s only players, and what they bring to the table…and as it stands, your build ideas bring very little.

You’re still stuck on the incorrect assumption that healers and support guards are “dead weight.” Once you get rid of that, the rest of your argument falls apart.

Enough is enough, guys. You ARE NOT a healer.

You obviously don’t understand this class for anything other than a damage dealer….which was never the point of the class. ANet’s own website states them as a support class. Part of support is healing, and they are LOADED with abilities that heal. They would not have so many healing abilities if they weren’t meant to heal.

You are right that I need to boost crit though, and I will do that.

I’m not saying that everything I did is right, which is why I asked. I -am- saying that you have a rather misinformed view of what a guardian actually is.

@Vitu – On that last point, I have actually provided emergency heals on many occasions to teammates. Healing Breeze and the (cant remember its name) virtue are great for that.

Also, providing a constant stream of healing mitigates the need to emergency heal as much. There’s even a trait that grants constant regeneration to everyone around you if your healing virtue is in passive mode.

Toughness reduces Direct damage, namely direct hitting abilities that can benefit off critical-hit chance.

Indirect damage is unhindered by Toughness, and is thus best defended against by stacking up on Vitality. Anything that applies a condition or debuff that deals damage is a form of indirect damage (excluding agony).

That’s why some posts are advising you remember to gear up some Vitality.

Thanks a lot for the explanation! I’ll remember this and I’ll probably end up switching some of my stats around a bit with gems reorgs.

I am filling in the entire Vitality tree in my traits too, so that should help.

You want to help support your teammates? Then help kill things faster.

But otherwise, remember…THERE ARE NO HEALERS in GW2, no matter how much you want to fake it.

This is entirely inaccurate. I can’t tell you the number of times my healing has saved the lives of those on my dungeon running teams with this guy. Having a player go down takes TWO (or more) players out of action, which is going to hurt a LOT worse than having one player doing a bit less damage. Not to mention the chances of a rezzer getting downed are significantly higher since he’s stationary. One downed player can chain react into a wipe very quickly…

You can’t do damage if you’re dead, and a team of glass cannons will fail at high level fractals EVERY time.

I also provide a tons of significant damage boosters. With large groups of enemies, I can generate 20 stacks of might on teammates, for instance. 12 from #4 on staff, and then 1 for every crit I land… That extra damage I’m providing on teammates more than makes up for the lack of DPS on my part.

Also, remember this…that 2k heal you’re getting at the end of empower? That skill takes 3.5-4 secs to channel.

That’s 4 seconds of you not doing anything…ending with a pretty wimpy heal.

It channels TWELVE stacks of might to teammates, 3 per ~second, and then ends with a big heal. I’d hardly call that “not doing anything.”

1. So do crits affect heals? As in…critical heals? (of other players)
2. Hammer is underpowered at close range compared to the GS. I plan on running support and using staff or scepter + other anyway. GS will only be a backup to whatever else I’m using.
3. I have duration maxed, but I’ll activate the trait for the symbol size. Thanks for the tip.
4. What is empowering might? I can’t find a direct definition in googling.
5. I rarely switch weapons in combat. Once I start a fight I don’t usually have an excuse to change them.
6. Will do.
7. Maybe
8. I would rather go with healing breeze, as it allows me to spray heals on allies as well.
9. I am still going +HP for the benefit of my teammates. As I said, not really looking for a boost for myself on this stuff.
10. My two favorite skills in the game.

Personally, I have found the self-burning from #4 to be an interesting aspect of the torch I haven’t explored yet. It actually makes something useful happen with Radiance 10 through Inner Burning.

Most skills that refer to allies do effect you as well. But Cleansing Flame in particular does not. Its purely for healing other players.

Which is, in and of itself, a fantastic reason to use it as support.

I was under the impression that it did not remove conditions from yourself, just allies.

That’s what a support guardian should be worried about, no? I’m all about supporting the people who have no decent condition removal. Guards have lots and lots of ways to mitigate the condition damage as well as remove it from themselves.
