what you ask is simply not possible in a multiplayer game. If your actions had LASTING consequences (they allready have consequences and I think they implemented that feature nicely) a lot of players would be excluded from content. Think of the centaur war maps. Players conquer them and capture all areas quite quickly. Now what happens in your scenario? All centaurs driven away, players and NPCs hold the fortresses with ease. The game is dead. You have lasting results to some degree in WvW and just read up on the complaints about player factions not being able to turn the tide because the battle was more or less set even before they joined the map.

Real consequences and “mattering” are VERY possible in MMO games. The thing is, the game has to be built around the idea from the get-go and it’s already far too late for that to happen in GW2.

Ever heard of Eve Online? You should read some of the stories that have come out of what the players have done in this game. It’s absolutely amazing.

Don’t remove the dye from all pieces of gear. Nuff said. How hard is it to change the colors and overwrite them instead of removing everything.

LMAO. knew someone would come in and say that. sigh Was just pointing out a simple bug. Crashes on more things then that. Still just saying they rushed launch. Don’t mean to hurt anyone feelings. Just pointing out that there are to many bugs. Didn’t pay 60 bucks to be a beta tester.

It’s a minor bug with a very simple workaround….and most people don’t experience it. What more do you want? I’d much rather they focused on the bugs that actually break the game for everyone.

If you want to make a well formed argument about legitimate pain points, it would be one thing, but your post reflects impatience and immaturity.

If I understand what you’re describing, it doesn’t sound like it would violate any rules. It sounds, more or less, like you want to use your ipad AS your keyboard in some circumstances.

If I had a keyboard with built in macro support, it shouldn’t be a problem to build a macro for something. Besides, it should be transparent as far as the game is concerned.

Don’t take this as gospel though…

…WoW veterans who are disappointed that the game doesn’t have enough of a grind, and GW1 veterans who are disappointed that the game has a grind.

Insert massive Anet facepalm here.

It’s really mainly in the forums. Once you get into the game you rarely see much of the trolling that happens here. Yes, people are a little ticked about blocking bugs that have been left since launch, but overall the sentiment seems to be much higher in-game than on the forums.

What I don’t understand is how people can gripe about needing 30-40 dungeon runs to get armor from a dungeon, but in WoW, to get Tier13 cataclysm armor, you’d literally run a combination of several HUNDRED raids and dungeons.

The bottom line is that people will gripe about anything if you give them the chance.

Don’t need it in PvE. I keep it disabled to avoid spoilers and not having to read senseless drivel from attention prostituting players. The UI gives me enough information if I feel I need some direction as to where I should go.

There are horrific performance problems with this game. The longest thread on the forums is dedicated to them: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Low-FPS-merged/first

There are a TON of people with really good systems getting horrible performance, and their CPU and GPU are BOTH sitting at loads ranging from 10-60%. Doesn’t seem tied to any particular hardware. Happens with Radeon HD 5-7XXX, Geforce 4-6XX, Intel i5/i7, AMD Phenom2, FX series’.

Indeed, I love how they only require you to do 30-40 runs of the same dungeon to get a full armor set, I was already tired of grinding. Oh wait…

And yet not a single run of the dungeon is required…you can never do a single dungeon in GW2 and still be a viable member of any DE, WvW or anywhere else…..there is NO required grind, its all optional

And exotics, with the exception of Karma purchased and personal story items, are not soulbound the second you pick them up. You can BUY all the good armor and weapons off the TP. Might not LOOK the same, but the stats are the same.

I know people like to mention WoW a lot, but let’s be honest here: You’re looking at literally hundreds of runs of dungeons and raids over several months to get a full set of top-tier armor in WoW.

Same goes for plenty of other MMOs.

30-40 runs is NOTHING compared to that.

Except in WoW you actually do different dungeons to get the badges/emblems or whatever they’ll called nowadays. The reason WoW become dull is because every 2 years you’d get a hard reset to all your equipment. As of now, there’s no guarantee that this won’t be the case with Guild Wars 2, since we don’t know whether they will or won’t be increasing the level cap in expansions.

If you want to get a full set of Tier 13 Cataclysm armor, you’re going to be running some SPECIFIC raids dozens of times. You can’t get the high end armor doing dungeons only. There’s also time constraints on that as well, so you’re literally talking about MONTHS of waiting and working to get that armor.

GW2 provides a MUCH faster path to get the higher end armors.

is there a aggro table in gw2?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

It seems that there is an aggro table. I’ve hammered on a champion (as a ranger) for a while while a group cleaned up other mobs, and then it was absolutely impossible for them to get the champion off of me. I’ve also pulled champions off of some of the melee characters in events that lasted a while. (Lucky for me rangers are pretty good at staying away from baddies)

Overall, while it appears there is some kind of aggro table, it doesn’t seem to matter if you have aggro if you’re good at playing your class.

Your thoughts about Orr

Hickeroar.9734

Hey guys, i just want to know what do you think about Orr.

In my opinion this map is just the apotheosis of failure.
This place doesn’t feel epic like some of us expected, events are pretty boring and there are quite a few bugs (can’t even complete malchor’s leap).
The risen are just there tokitten you off, you can’t make one step without a mob that start slowing you, pulling you back, knocking you down etc.

But maybe it’s just me.

Overall I agree with this. It’s not THAT bad, but I’d definitely stick it with the “worst set of zones in the game” label. Horribly buggy, unimaginitive, etc.

Quit this game within 2 days of buying it.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hickeroar.9734

You admit you quit after barely even playing an MMO? That is completely nonsensical.

Play for AT LEAST two weeks, then decide if you want to quit. I played Rift for a month before I decided that it wasn’t for me.

MMOs cannot be summed up in two days of play time. This is why all the big game review sites waited a week, or even several weeks, before reviewing the game.

Generally I don’t like the arguement that someone needs to commit two weeks to decide on a game. If I don’t like eating squid, why would I eat it for two weeks to make sure?

If you don’t like it, that is ok. Some people don’t get into certain things. Who can blame you. We only have so many hours of life. Spend them as you please.

It it too bad that you spent your money on something you don’t care for. Maybe come back in the future and check it out again. You never know what changes will happen.

I’m not talking about a “generic game.” Most games I’d agree with you. But if you give up on an MMO in two days, you were never really interested in it in the first place.

MMOs automatically require a MUCH larger time investment than general start-to-finish games. You cannot get a picture of how much you’re going to enjoy an MMO by only playing for two days.

guild wars 2 vs. the world of mmo's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hickeroar.9734

Most of the end-game failing is due to the fact that the lvl 70-80 Orr areas are very, very broken. Many events are perpetually bugged.

There is a HUGE amount of broken dungeon content as well, which would otherwise be a big end-game focus for players. Even the final boss fight, Zhaitan, is so incredibly bugged that it’s literally a zero-challenge fight. You just hammer on #2 on the keyboard until he dies, while not moving.

So the lack of end-game content is less of a fact that there isn’t content, and more of the fact that most of it is broken to the point that it’s not fun. Hopefuly a lot of that will be fixed this week. If not, I’ve a feeling that many players will start dropping like flies.

Do you feel pressured to support GW2 via the cash shop? Why or Why not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hickeroar.9734

The only time I feel pressured is when I look at the now 40 (!!!???) black lion chests sitting in my bank…which I would have to spend an inordinate amount of money to open. I’d buy keys and open some of them them except I’m afraid I’d be left with a bunch of useless garbage. I’ve gotten two keys from the personal story quests, and one came out of one of the chests.

I’d buy the keys except almost $2 to open a stupid chest in-game is a mind-blowingly out of balance cost.

Other than that, I don’t feel the need to have anything that’s in the store. $2 for a one hour stat boost is just….stoooopid.

I’m more worried about the market for them crashing if they make them account bound. Right now the unidentified dyes score about 6s on the market. If they became account bound, they would pay out significantly less.

The last thing we need is for the economy to get even more borked than it already is.

If you’re getting that email, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a virus. It does mean some hacker already has your account name and password. Email authentication is the last line of defense from areanet when your account info has been compromised.

You should read recent post on the main page from Mike O’Brien on account security:

“So keep in mind, if you ever see an unexpected email asking you to validate a login attempt from a location where you’re not playing from, that means a hacker already knows your account name and password! The only thing that’s keeping him from logging in as you is the email authentication system! Change your password immediately.”

http://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/

While I appreciate the information, I changed my password 1.5 weeks ago for GW2 and my e-mail to TWO DIFFERENT passwords, yet I am still getting the e-mails. As mentioned, I even went through installing GW2 on my work machine, but still get the e-mails. How are they getting passwords? Are they BF’ing them? (Brute forcing)? Also, I changed my pw just now again from my work machine as I am at work.

As was already stated, if you are getting the e-mails THEY KNOW YOUR PASSWORD. Whatever you changed your password to is something they already knew of as a possibility for your game account.

Change the password again to something unique and random.

Well, if your GPU is maxed out, you’re GPU bottlenecked anyway and not a victim of this issue. This problem, as far as everyone can tell, really only applies to people who have issues with their CPU and GPU BOTH being underutilized. It’s usually with systems that should be more than capable of achieving far greater performance than they’re getting.

Low FPS - [merged]

Hickeroar.9734

Well, the problem isn’t with the game/video/driver settings….at all.

If you read a lot of what’s going on here, the CPU and GPU are simply not being utilized properly. It’s a game bug. I don’t ever get over 60% GPU or CPU utilization. The highest I’ve seen it was a simultaneous 60% on both CPU and GPU on my rig. That means 40% of the power of the CPU and/or GPU are being wasted. If at least one of them was maxed out it would be obvious that it would be the bottleneck, but neither one is maxed…ever.

Back around post 500, i have a screenshot in Lions Arch with all settings maxed, getting 22FPS. I then took another screenshot with all settings at absolute lowest, and I only went up to 40FPS. That’s definitely a problem. Even if 22FPS was legit at max (which it’s not), the min settings should have boosted me to over 100FPS. My machine (if you scroll up a bit and look) is a pretty good, pretty new rig (only built it two months ago).

What's the point with using a Longbow?

in Ranger

Posted by: Hickeroar.9734

Hickeroar.9734

I’ve tried the longbow at many points throughout the game, but the fire rate is just too low to be of any use in a real fight. The enemies get too close too fast, and there’s not enough mobility for it to be useful. If you’re only fighting ONE enemy, and you have a lot of distance between you and them, longbow is OK. The #2 ability is OK, but it’s got a cooldown that’s too long to be any use if you’re fighting more than one enemy.

The only other longbow perk is the AOE Barrage. But, it’s useless in anything but events, since it’s channeled and running interrupts it.

I suppose if you’re not a big fan of actually moving, longbow could be an OK choice, but I find it boring and uninspired combat.

The reason you have a laggy mouse in GW2 is because the engine is based on the GW1 engine. It’s a heavily modified version of the same software. Mouse behavior is tied to performance, FPS, the lower your FPS the more mouse lag you will have. That’s also why it’s such a big deal to fix. Don’t look for it to get better any time soon.

Yet disabling HPET significantly decreased the amount of mouse lag, so it’s not a 1:1 tie to framerate.

Topic title (truncated):
Found improvement for mouse smoothing/lag + small performance boost.

I’ve been researching a bit about some of the performance issues people are having, and it seems that when HPET is enabled in the bios, it almost always impacts gaming performance negatively. Usually it’s jitters and mouse yuckiness.

The setting is usually under the Power Management section of your bios, and you should set it to Disabled. HPET stands for “High Precision Event Timers.” Whatever it was intended to optimize, it de-optimized performance.

There was an instant and very noticeable decrease in mouse lag/smoothing effect in-game. It’s still there, but only at about 10% of what it was before. The game feels MUCH more responsive.

Also, I have a particular vista that I always stand at in Lions Arch for FPS testing. It’s particularly hard on my computer (I’m suffering from that low CPU/GPU utilization bug/issue that so many people are in GW2), and my average framerates there jumped from 20-21FPS to 23-25FPS. It’s not a HUGE jump, but it’s a jump nonetheless.

Hopefully this helps some of you out!

“brand spanking new gaming laptop.”

Gaming laptops are a gimmick. There isn’t a single mobile chip that has the raw GHz this game needs to run smooth everywhere, nor will there be til at least after Skylake.
Likewise, the GTX560m/GTX660m that I see on the majority of these “gaming” laptops is still worse than a desktop GTX260 from 2008. That’s the price you pay for mobility.

Luckily not all developers made the switch to target low-end machines.

“Raw Ghz” doesn’t mean anything. If they did, my overclocked AMD FX-4100 would be spanking a whole lot of the i7’s out there.

There are many gaming laptops (especially brand-spanking new ones) out there that are more than capable of running this game. Besides, the OP already said that his rig nets him 60FPS normally.

To the OP: I’m sorry this isn’t any help, but you’re in the same boat with a lot of us. There are some very odd performance issues that the game is experiencing at the moment. Hopefully they’ll release a patch with some performance optimizations in it soon.

I know what’s causing this particular issue (and everyone has it.)

Walk over and pick up one of the bombs in the cave. There’s another right underneath it. Pick that up. There’s another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. ETC.

This is why the burning fuse looks more like a camp fire. You’re rendering hundreds or maybe thousands of those bombs in that cave because there’s something wrong with the logic for spawning them. Even if they’re already there, they keep spawning.

1. Game is CPU-bound
2. Kepler / 306.xx drivers (or the game) are not yet fully optimized

If it was CPU bound, people wouldn’t consistently be reporting that their CPUs are being underutilized. CPU usages has been reported at anywhere from 10%-60%. There’s a lot of CPU that’s not being used at all.

Same goes for GPU across the board.

There are some definite software optimization issues causing some problems here.

There is no specific hardware that has the issue. It’s been reported on NVIDIA & AMD cards of all kinds, Phenom 2’s, i5’s, i7’s, AMD-FX, of all different speeds.

AMD Radeon HD 7870 @ 1100Mhz
8GB Ram

CPU sits at about 55-60% utilization
GPU sits at 40-60% utilization

My enjoyment of the game would increase dramatically if they can figure out what is causing this. We haven’t heard a thing about it since the devs requested “-perfdebug” profiles (which didn’t work for anyone).

Warriors are…warriors. Pretty boilerplate as far as I know.

Rangers are very fun ranged, or melee DPS. They’re a very versatile class. They’re my favorite class thusfar. They have excellent survive-ability in PvE. If you learn how to stay very mobile and use your avoidance skills properly, you can stay alive though ridiculously unbalanced fights. They’re NOT as good at PvP from what I hear though. I haven’t tried.

Mesmers are fun, if a little weird. I hear they do GREAT in PvP due to the nature of their clones and how confusing that can be for your opponents. Plus, the Shatter abilities are good for AOE damage.

You should just roll one of each and play it to level 10 to see what you think. I have a friend who rolled one of each class and played to 8 to figure out which he wanted.

Trying to understand the "Raid" Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hickeroar.9734

Well, it was very obvious to me early on that the DE content was no replacement for dungeons or raids. Even the meta events only last 20 minutes, if you’re very lucky. Granting more health to DE monsters is definitely not the answer to that, so hopefully they don’t go down that (very lame) road. I’m not sure what they were referring to when they said that DEs would take the place of Raids, because they aren’t even in the same league. DEs are massive zergs that really aren’t challenging at all. They’re more fun, mindless spank fests.

To be fair though, a lot of the Dungeon content, especially Arah (and one could argue AC as well), in my experience, is essentially Raid content. Those are very long, very hard dungeons.

The typical WoW dungeon in Cataclysm (with the exception of a couple) takes 15 minutes. That’s usually what I think of when I think “dungeon.”

This may be lame…but I want Dueling simply because of the RP implications. You can really take RP to the next level when your characters can fight. Storylines can be altered by wins vs losses in fights (between serious RPers).

Hate to say it, but WoW’s camera was perfect, there was no reason to not make an exact copy of that.

Yeah, it was pretty good. Very solid and responsive. Big zoom-out too.

Big Patch?

Haha, i have the same thoughts. I’m totally digging the simplicity after 5 actionbars filled with madness in WoW. Abilities were getting downright impossible to manage. I feel sorry for the classes that got even MORE abilities with MoP.

Add-on Implementation.

GW2 is the first MMO that I’ve played where you really don’t need addons. In WoW/Rift, you’re at a serious disadvantage against a lot of your foes if you don’t have some kind of notification system.

GW2 does what it does very well, and I don’t really see the need for addons at this moment.

The only thing I wouldn’t mind would be a DPS meter simply for my curisoity’s sake. It’s hard to know which classes actually deal more damage than others.
