so pretty much a necro with death perception and baseline 50 crit is now able to stack 25 might no problem. add runes of strength and its pretty much permanent.
good ideas mate, but its never gonna happen.
alright, i dont really like mantras though but thx!
Just a little info in case anyone doesn’t know: illusionary elasticity doesn’t work on staff clones. Despite ANet said they’re aware of this and will address that PRE- and POST-15th April (serious!), they haven’t make any changes to it.
Yea I noticed it earlier while playing. Now I’m running a 0/5/5/2/2 build and it’s pretty nice.
PU is useless in PvP, unless your just going to screw around hot joins. I personally think 0/4/4/0/6 condi shatter or your 0/5/5/0/4 will serve your intentions.
PU is actually very viable at all levels of solo queue, and up to roughly the top 200 of team queue, potentially even beyond that. The only place it isn’t effective is if you’re fighting one of the top 5 teams. Condie shatter will do nothing but get you destroyed, as it’s basically got all the weaknesses of shatter builds and none of the strengths.
As far as non-PU condie, my recommendation would be something along the lines of 4/5/5, staff + scepter torch. It’s basically the same overall playstyle, just you’ve got additional aoe confusion on clone deaths and shorter stealths. You can modify it to 2/6/5/something if you wanted to go more along the lines of scepter/pistol and take phantasmal fury.
Going into illusions in a staff + sc/t build doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. There really aren’t any good major traits there for you, since confusion isn’t worth increasing the duration of (because the base duration is so low), you don’t have any good phantasms, and IE is broken. Domination has a lot of great traits (crippling dissipation and torch traits), but if you wanted to avoid domination, inspiration would be the next best line, with mender’s purity and scepter cooldowns.
This for 4/5/5: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW7flknpMtFqxRNcrNSpxY2cOikBURZHpcA-TJRHwAw2fIZZABXEAAPBAA
This for 0/5/5/4: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW7flknpMtFqxRNcrNitxY2LK5k1kTZDYYA-TJRHwAw2fIZZABXEAAPBAA
Utils and sigils remain the same no matter what build you go for basically.
Why would I care about another’s build strengths and weaknesses when I’m playing a whole other build? I only shatter 2 for 6 stacks of confusion for 3 clones and 4 for save stomping ressing. The rest is meh.
But thanks for the reply. I don’t intend on going really far with a condi mesmer but I’m pretty tanks and if I spam staff AA with 3 clones I can take out most people.
If you don’t reccomend confusion duration, what other adept trait do you reccomend?
PVP plz… I just want to compare it to my current 0/5/5/0/4 build
Ah ok. Than i asked the wrong question….
Updated question: what is a good/well-used condi mesmer build not using PU?
4/4/6 in what lines? And are there condi builds not using PU? I dont want to be another PU mesmer that constantst stealths.
What would be a classic condi mesmer build? I’m using a 0/5/5/0/4 build with staff scepter torch and it works well. But I’m curious to know the meta condi build.
Thx
Power necro here, let me know if need another necro. I’m preferably a roamed would be willing to fit any role. Video in my description, showing my build and gameplay (also combos but you can skip over that)
I don’t really count the minion skills because except for traversal and explosion the other have a ‘cast time’ on the minion itself. But thx
For leveling anything works, but power would probably be better.
I reccomend dagger/warhorn and axe/focus for power (I use dagger/focus and staff but that’s personal preference) just spam warhorn 5 when it’s off cooldown for mobility.
For utilities spectral walk for swiftness and well of suffering for more damage, 3rd one is optional.
For traits I’m not sure but probably start in spite for more power. But when you get your first trait point don’t put it in spite because the minor sucks….
This is very basic, so be sure to tweak things to your liking. Also, be sure to have fun while leveling, if condi is more enjoyable for you go condi. Hope it helped
I’m only counting those you can use while stunned. So than it’s 6?
If it works for you, why you would be a fool using it? Running soldiers you could also use arcane power for guarenteed crits if you do not need the immoblize, burn, chill or blind.
For me personally I kinda need the cleansing and healing from water attument and usually run a 0/6/0/4/4 fresh air build. I also do not fancy using piercing shards ( the 20% more damage to vulnerable foes), it only works in water attument and rarely you wanna use water for the purpose of dealing damage in pvp.
I think most ele players do simply not expect their Dragons tooth to hit anyways or use different methods ( earth quake, signet, gale from focus, ride the lightning).
What do you mean with your first sentence? And using soldiers I have 177% crit dmg, so not too much, that’s why I don’t use arcane power.
And because of the master minor trait in arcana the piercing shards last 5 sec after you leave water, so 5/9 seconds (theoretically) you have piercing shards.
And the other CC’s are 2 seconds of knockdown, and DT takes 3 sec to cast/hit.I meant if it works for you, you should use elemental surge. Personally I feel the cleanses and healing from water are more valuable. The piercing shard uptime in my opinion is not worth it and the timing off piercing shard uptime does not fit my playstyle, I get in an fight, cast my fire / lightning skills heal up and subsequently get out.
Ah, that why I always stay in water before a fight. Than air burst and Phoenix followed by DT combo. I have tried 20 in water but felt that 30 arcana was better…
How many insta cast skills does necro have compared to other classes?
The ones I know of the top of my head are:
-Wurm teleport
-spectral skills (not wall and grasp)
-Doom
Is this right? Any I forgot? 4 is not that much
Cast times on the necro are very long (compare to my ele) and are often interrupted.
kitten gonna try that out ASAP, seems so awesome.

Is this for PvP? Why not just use Updraft on dagger or, even better, Gale on focus?
Most often, you will have to hit your Phoenix on a moving target. Dragons Tooth is mostly useful for forcing a dodge or cleaving on a downed player.
Yea it’s PvP. And I do the exact opposite. I use Phoenix on CCed enemies so I make sure all three hits hit. The knockdown from earthquake and updraft is only 2 seconds, so DT which takes 3 seconds to cast/hit won’t usually hit. And yes that is what DT is usually used for, but I want to actually hit a target that is not downed.
Any other comments on this?
I almost just want to take lich form for a condi build so I ckittene #5 for Huge boon strip/condi cleanse real quick. still stomp and rez hmhmm….No I can’t people will make fun of me :C
You can lich-stomp and I youll generate more wtf and cheers than laughter if you pull it off
+the full CD has been fixed
Back on topic, Id say we cant afford plague anymore
You got so many bad matchups as a necro that extra 2s CC is needed and it still mostly isnt enough.
How do you lich stomp? 0-0 it has a cast time, so you can’t cast it while stomping…
Or you could just toss on locust signet and pull it back off when you see people. Takes way less time and management.
Nope, it will take more time. Getting somewhere 12% slower will have a great effect if you’re running around a lot. Yes it takes more manegement but it will save you time in the long run.
Anything that takes more management increases the chances of my getting caught with my pants down, so to speak, and dying in WvW takes a lot more time to recover from than the difference between locust signet – that takes about 1 second to change – and swiftness that requires cooldowns and armor swaps.
Plus it’s 8%, not sure where 12% came from.
Yea my bad… It was late.
Yeah… kitten changing my entire armor set, rather just change a wep or a util….
If you don’t want to do it that’s fine.
Hey guys just a tip, Im not forcing anyone to use it. If it doesn’t work for you don’t chance it. But, id rather have my healskill on CD (id probably not use it right at the start of the fight and I have DS) than a useless utility on my skill bar.
To me perma swiftness is better than anything else and you very rarely get jumped.

All good alternativo’s but:
33% is netter than 25% which will eventually save you time.
Locust swarm is only 10 or 15 seconds
3 minutes is not enough if you are planning to do lots of roaming
And if you watch out you shouldn’t be able to be jumped, unless stealth was involved.
u can take arcan power, the 5 crits arcana, use earth auto atk, few times to stak immob, or whatever u want, then switch to fire to land dt and phoenix
i would take signet of earth tbh, for arcan surge u need to be in eart attunement, u dont have heal when attuning to water
Interesting, didn’t know it also worked with that. But with that you can stack 25 seconds of burning! Which is pretty op IMO. But thanks I’ll try that out, now the only problem is finding some good insta casts in earth so I will have enough immob to cast and let the DT land which I think is 3 seconds
For all you WvW’ers, i recently found a (cost effective) way to perma swiftness as a necro (for anyone who didn’t know already).
Requirements:
1. Runes of the Centaur (~3 sil each)
2. Spectral Walk (pretty standard for roaming I would say)
3. heal skill (I’m 99% positive we all got this)
4. Another armor set (quick and easy from TP)
Spectral Walk would be 39 sec (60 sec CD)
Heal Skill would be 13 sec (25-40 sec CD)
Just pop SW/heal on CD when roaming to stack swiftness, and switch out to your main gear when you notice any possible enemies.
Unless you actually want your runes on your armor set to be the Centaur runes, just buy a different set from the TP real quick (I chose rare so I’m not completely UP when ambushed. One time I took out a double incinerator ele with this) but you can do whatever you want.
Yes equipping and unequipping is annoying but it saves time in the long run.
Xtra tip for you really really lazy people out there:
Keep your inventory with your other armor set minimized somewhere on the screen so you don’t even have to keep opening your inventory.
The lack of immob with ele really disappoints me, and considering my favorite weapon is scepter (the one with the hard to hit skills -dragons tooth/Phoenix-) I decided to change that.
So I run a classic 0/6/0/2/6 S/D fresh air build
With – bolt to the heart/air training/fresh air
– the one with +20% dmg to vulnerable foes
– arcane mastery/elemental attunements/arcane surge
My utilities are LF, arcane wave and arcane bolt and I run soldiers amulet for some survivability.
Yes, arcane surge…. No evasive arcana, this being because that (IMHO) the only good dodge rolls are water for heal and earth for blast, fire and air are… Meh.
To cover immobs I only looked at earth signet and arcane surge, and because of the cast time of SoE I took arcane surge.
How I make it work:
Because dragons tooth (2-5k) and Phoenix (2-8k depending on # of hits) are hard to hit (and hit hard) and are often wasted (Phoenix a lot less but DT especially) I wanted to actually make sure they hit.
arcane surge immobs target for 1 sec when arcane skill is used in earth
So – dragons tooth, (maybe Phoenix here), earth, arcane bolt than wave, air, air burst —-- is my usual combo and in soldiers gear hits for ~8-13k
Other dragons tooth setups (+Phoenix)- earthquake > dragons tooth – phoe
– updraft > dragons tooth – phoe
arcane surge with other attunements
Fire – with my build 1k of total burn dmg, not bad
Water – chill = meh
Air – blind is great when stomping if scepter 3 is on cooldown and you have an arcane skill available, also when you see a warrior with Earthshaker coming towards you.
Am I the only ele with this trait? What do you guys think? Any hard counters for this build? Better than regular evasive arcana or not?
or am I just a fool for not taking a blast/heal on dodge roll? :P
Quick Question: if you are not focusing on team support, would you reccomend dagger offhand?
Yeah but the other reason is enough to discount his suggestions. Besides like you said, the extra crit chance is pretty important and bleed as a cover condition is actually really helpful in pvp.
And from the other perspective the toughness and boon duration is going to have pretty much no effect.
I’m only at 39% crit chance with the 10 in curses, while Im aiming for 50%. So yea curses is better? And if I went into death magic, what adept trait would you reccomend?
Well I really don’t use this build for PvE so that’s not a problem.
Celestial is almost never the way to go on a necro…
Seems very interesting, I love having more than 30k HP. Didn’t think of the well of corruption/spectral wall combo, but will try it out against an enemy Zerg.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FOnLKuILB5mc
Vid on kinda what you are looking for, with a focus. And yea I also started out as a D/D necro but turned to focus because it synergyses a lot better with mainhand dagger.
Quick question: I recently watched nemesis’ power DPS necro guide and he went 2 into death magic. While I go 2 in curses. Which is better?
Death magic has boon uptime and toughness which I could use. The minor trait is ok, but the adept traits really don’t fit this build well.
Cursed has condi damage which i don’t use, and precision which is great for this build.
The minor trait is OK because I crit a lot so it will overall do ok dmg, and it will cover my vulnerability so it’s less likely to be cleansed. The adept trait is nice because it allows a constant flow of life force.
Which in your opinion is better?
Winning would show the capabilities of the build, and make people more likely to try out the build.
Actually, losing can show limitations of a build and pin point its capabilities more accurately than winning. It could showcase how far you can push it, if you will.
Also, I could show how I kill people with a really bad build (or even naked and without traits). I doubt anyone would be motivated to try it just because it’s in a video.
Noone will show off something they cant be proud of. It might be entirely the builds fault for the loss but that loss will still effect your credibility. Its pretty much why noone shows videos of bad plays. Whos going to put effort into uploading something which demonstrates them losing or playing badly unless they are making a point? Only way to see that stuff is to watch streams and stream vods.
+1
nothing against you OP, great video. I learned a lot.
but just wondering why practically every video i watched is about ppl winning. I have not watched a video where ppl actually posted themselves losing and what can be learned from it for a long time.
Winning would show the capabilities of the build, and make people more likely to try out the build. If you’re going to show a build with gameplay of you losing people aren’t gonna try it. Plus, losing would mean something didn’t go right and you probably wouldn’t want to show that :/ I have put a clip of me losing in one of my vids, but that was because I almost downed a person with a well executed combo, but than a 2nd person came along and killed me…
I just hope that SOMEDAY New PvP game modes are released (think capture the flag, king of the Hill, sudden death, team deatmatch.)
random…
would running 6 in curses and a sigil of strength with matching runes be an effective notion? proc more might stacks? hence more power?
or would you still suggest the 6 in Spite?
It could work in a slightly different build, but the spite GM trait (20%+ dmg under 50%) and soul reaping GM trait (50%+ crit chance in DS) make this build. Also, 30% condition duration will help you stack 20+ vulnerability.
Something to take into account; you can already stack ~24 might max with this build, so more might is not really needed IMO.
even just the ones you had there added a whole bunch of things to try.
i had not thought about the whole well with the staff 4 mark inside trick.
you feel running full glass is the best way to go with it? or would slotting a knight amulet or something be worthwhile?
worth learning in Hot join? or just go for it and hit the solo q?
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think glass is the best way to go, but I don’t consider it glass because in total you have over 40k HP. And, because of SG, focus #4, dagger AA and reapers precision (<33% chance on crit for 1% LF) you recharge your LF very fast.
Because of this I just want to down my opponent ASAP. The whole ‘necro gets stronger the longer the fight takes’ from Anet is bs.
TL;dr – no I reccomend going full berzerker.
And yea try it out in hotjoint. I played it In sPvP for 2 months before I found out that soloq existed facepalm (was new to the game then)
The profession forums are largely ignored by anyone at ANet, I agree. If you want them to see anything, you have to post in the Balance Discussion forum now. They avoid the other areas completely.
This post WAS posted in the profession balance forum, but he shared it here to see what the necro community would think.
Great Stuff Holl,
thanks for putting that up
Thanks man, appreciated!
Did I forget any combo’s? On an ele it’s easy to do some good combo’s, but on a necro not so much.
Hey guys,
Made this new video and also included a ‘combo’ part with tips/tricks/combo’s to do on a necromancer. It is mainly for powermancer but there are also some in there that a conditionmancer ckittene.
Link: http://youtu.be/OnLKuILB5mc
The combo part starts at > 2:06 <
Let me know what you think!
As a necro, I think this thread deserves some more attention.
Nicely played. Surprising to see a thief team get shut down so easily.
Proffesion stacking has always been worse that the ideal dream team (some exceptions for tanky alrounders like ele and warior).
Its actualy pretty common knowledge to switch char if you have 2x thieves, like 2x bunker guards.
Theyre very specialized roles and simply cancel each other out
Really? There was this video on YouTube with a team of 5 necro’s and they dominated. I think it was 1 MM, 3 condi, and 1 powermancer. They won quite easily, but I don’t think that would work in high tier PvP (no stability, mobility)
Very nice! Definatly has some potential, but what are the big pros of having them chilled a lot? Sure they move less and they can use their skills less often but what else? Dagger/focus is my favorite necro weaponset, so that clicked with me, but your utilities are all used for more chill…. Any tips on how to properly play this build?
It’s a better idea than the current spirits, that’s for sure.
Could you mesmers take a look at others classes? Necromancer in top tier? Don’t make me laugh… You guys have !3! Mesmers, while there are 1 ranger and necro. And necro is together with ranger by far the most lacklusteress classes.
OMG so many necromancers up there! Just goes to show how good necromancers are in top tier PvP! I’m surprised there aren’t as many necros…
Cough*sarcasm*cough
-.-
Yes, i was asking most powerfull/usefull mechanic
So thief: steal and initiative
Necro: DS and DS skills
Warrior: adrenaline and burst skill
Ele: attunements
Engi: tool belt skills
Guardians: passive an active virtues
Ranger: pet and pet skills
Mesmer: CLONES (<don’t forget) and shatter skills
You got so many bad matchups as a necro that extra 2s CC is needed and it still mostly isnt enough.
