No necro is OP. But as a power necro I’m confident with saying that I win 90% of my fair 1v1’s (fair saying that we both saw each other and that there were no allies to help us).

My usual rotation on my 6/2/0/0/6 WoSuffering, spectral grab and SoSpite dagger/focus power necro is spectral grab > dark pact (4 secs) > WoSuffering >SoSpite > Reapers touch and than some dagger 1’s > (when dark pact ends) DS > Doom (back into well) > Dark path > LB. And that all in around 6 seconds. If that doesn’t kill em (warriors/guards) use DS 5 and than 4 (< which usually does 3-5.5k when it’s not interrupted)

^ with that I kill most of my victims.
So back to the point, no necro is OP but can be exteremely strong when played right and not countered. And necro isn’t actually that squishy. Every necro has DS so with a full life force bar around 35k health. Ranger and Mesmer would be squishier.

Hey guys, i recently made an engi and have been playing around with it in hotjoints but it seems like all I’m doing is spamming my bombs, pistol, tool belt and grenade skills. Ik wondering if anyone can provide me with a good “rotation” for a condition engi with grenade bomb and tool kit (I also use rocket boots sometimes). If this is possible I would appreciate it, but I did hear some famous engis say that a rotation on engi isn’t really possible because you have so many skills… Any comments would be appreciated.

Hey guys! Holl here. I’m an experienced necro with over 800 hours on my dagger/focus 6/2/0/0/6 power build. My life blasts hit like a truck (2,5-5,5k) and I can provide exellent team support with my staff. I’m looking for a casual team to do some pvp in the weekends and maybe in the afternoons. Hey man, because I have a lvl 80 necro I’m gonna give you one tip…. They have almost no stability. Exept for foot in the grave (3 sec when going into DS) which very little necros have because it’s 30 into the soul reaping tree and 1 sec on wel of power, necros have no other other stability. (Well, also elite forms if you count those in)

Omg, seriously I have to explain this? Your ironical comment was unnecessary.
EG was created for condition build. In my opinion it’s a big waste if I take kit only for 1 skill.
Is it really strange that I’m sick of contition? It’s not a game when you just spam everything you have and then just kite him and wait until your enemy bleed out.

Np man, and take a look at the FT help topic. Lots of flamethrower tips and tricks to increase your dmg. Ft #1 can do 2-4k in a single round, #2 4k+ and all that while your target is on fire! Combine with 5k leap shot from rifle and your eny is KO

I agree. Than it would be a bit like mesmer (staff = condi and gs = power). I would prefer longbow because gs on necro doesn’t seem fitting. Other than that we have short bow which could work but probably isn’t going to happen.

This all seems pretty accurate.
The thing that bothers me most is that a necro doesn’t feel like a necro. The only thing u get from people dying is some life force, while a necro is someone who manipulates and raises the dead. Aside from minions (who are just dumb punching bags) and life force there is nothing really necro-y about this class. The ideas listed above me I like a lot and seem to do this. But I wish u could just summon peo- wait… What if there is a new weapon that focuses on minions? 1- send out an undead knight to attack and bleed your foe. 2- summon an archer to cripple your foe. 3- raise an undead warlock to burn your foe. 4- send out an undead wizard to cause vuln on your enemy. 5- release a horde of undead animals to bleed and poison your foe. Lol, might be OP but would make this class more interesting, necro-y and add a new weapon to the necro kitten nal. (Which there have also been complaints about) this idea just came to me so don’t judge too harshly.

All minion weapons, except maybe an off-hand, will never happen. Also your ideas aren’t GW2 Necro-y, since we don’t strictly raise undead, we just raise golems (although you could change your ideas to fit that pretty easily).

Only in GW2 do necros summon flesh bags. All the other necros in books, stories, other games actually raise the kittening dead. Why couldn’t anet do this? Now we only have these half dead ‘creatures’ that don’t do anything.

Staff 3—5 should be blast finishers. Staff 2 would be nice as well, but I think its cooldown is a little short to warrant it.

DS 1 should be at least a 20% projectile finisher

WoB should be a water field instead of light, since it is supposed to be blood after all.

As far as current combos, I like to toss staff 4 & SW in spvp. Fear+prot+chaos armor = confused and desperate opponent.

Necro’s dont really need extra offensive skills/traits or whatever. Rather they should improve survivability a bit.

Combos wouldn’t improve our offense at all, all our fields would just apply conditions (only poison that deals damage) to debilitate the enemy.

Personally i think some of our weapons should just get some finishers on them. But im also ok with buffing spiteful talisman and banshees wail to make reapers touch a projectile and warhorn skills blast finishers. Same with axe i guess, but i really think unholy feast should be a blast by default, the weapon is bad enough as it is.

I think Axe could get finishers just as a base buff to its skills, since it is pretty much awful as is, although I don’t think finishers would change that. I’d rather see an Axe rework over that.

The other weapons though I think are well balanced as is, and there should be new traits introduced (or if a trait is a big weak, like I think the warhorn trait is) then it can be added there. For example they could have a trait that makes Life Siphon drop an Ice Field and Dark Path turns into a leap finisher. Another trait could add certain fields onto each staff mark (make staff an actual good support weapon? GASP). And you could have one that augments scepter 2 to leave a field, epidemic to blast, enfeebling blood to blast, enfeeble to blast, etc. There are a lot of skills that I think are otherwise balanced, and so can’t have a base buff added, but have the ability to be traited to do so. Fields/finishers are a major part of what makes MM an attrition build, and I think ANet needs to realize that, and just like with MM, open up traits that can allow that play.

The war horn trait is one of the best traits! (When u use war horn that is) is makes #5 a 15 second swiftness with 15 ticks and more lf regen and more cripple with only a 24 sec cooldown so almost perma swiftness (9 sec not) and #4 a 3 sec daze!

Unholy sanctuary

I agree, the traits are all wrong and in the wrong tier. BUT stealth doesn’t last so long, unless they get all the stealth traits. Most stealth traits will be shadow refuge, cloak and dagger and maybe some trait stealth skills all together maybe 6-10 seconds stealth (?… I’m not entirely sure cause I only have a lvl 19 thief but I guess thi is pretty accurate). So that’s about 2000-3200 healing in stealth. Now necro. With vital persistence and 30 in SR u can get a good 25-40 sec in DS when not doing anything. (So about 3000-4500 healing) and when in a group fight with lots of kills and spectral skill you could manage to double that. I do agree with u however some more regen would be nice but it’s hard to compare two different things.

Hey guys, I recently started playing an engineer and am surprised by how many blast finishers, projectile finishers and combo fields they have. This being said, the necro has almost none of those things as far as I know. Staff is the only combo I use (3 and than 4 to get weakness), but for the rest I’m really missing them.

On some other forum post I saw someone post an idea about spite grandmaster/master trait which makes wells fire fields and increased their dmg by 15%, which I really like as a power necro. How do u guys like it? And are them some hidden combos I might not be aware of?

Oh I just remembered, instead of corrosive pioson cloud you can go spectral wal and pick up the terror trait. Drop it right when two factions clash and you tag a lot op people, while also giving your allies protection.
Also, she wasn’t asking for a lot of damage, but how to tag as many people as possible. Dagger 4/5, scepter 2, plague, and your wells all do a bit of damage.
Fun tip – if you have round 100% crit chance in DS with deathly perception you can drop a well and go into DS and have all of the wells crit! So my well of suffering with 3200 normal (6x) does about 6000 dmg!

So you want to do a bit of damage while not being very tanky, you must really not care much about winning. In a zerg it is best to use direct damage. Furthermore, warhorn it’s in an aoe cone, and will help you get away if some melee characters are right on you. It is in general a better choice for zerging.

He didn’t ask “how do I best help my team in a Zerg?”, but asked “how do I tag the most people”….

but anyways, I am thinking of going with power/vitality/condition dmg gear, I have a question though, are marks able to hit critical damage and would stacking power make them stronger the way the power boosts wells’ dmg (and is it viable to do that)?

My main is a necro but I wanted to try some different classes and chose engineer. I’m already lvl 25 and I’m starting to look into some builds and on YouTube the static discharge build look really powerful… But how does it work? How much damage does it do? Does it crit? (Idk yet because I’m not lvl 30 yet) and can someone post a good build for it like I say on YouTube?

-Staff and scepter/dagger (staff 2-5 and scepter 2 and dagger 5/4)
-condi/toughness gear with some power here and there mixed in
-staff traits and more condi dmg/duration so some in spite, death, curses and soul reaping is opptional.
-plague form

So whatcha got is 2 damaging wells, poison field for 12 sec, dagger 4 and 5, scepter 2, all your staff skills (which will be bigger with traits) DS 4/5, (optional DS 1 with unyielding blast which will hit 2-3 people, same with staff) and plague form.

This came out of the top of my head when u said most AoE. Ofcoarse don’t run into the middle of the Zerg unless in plague, and just spam your utilities and weapon skills.

Probs true when traited, but running throughout a zerg with locust swarm Will get you killed… So dagger 5 is better from a distance, and dagger 4 gets another 3 people.

Spite Minors are terrible

Curses: This trait line is pretty solid in minors.

Armored Shroud: a 9% reduction in damage while in DS. It is better than nothing, by mere fact that it isn’t nothing. At least it helps me win fights…

Soul Comprehension: The LF from deaths can be pretty major, but this is another one of those “only works when we’re winning” traits.

Deadly Strength: Isn’t too bad.

Wowowowow….. What happened to barbed precision? Did anet replace it?

Stop dreaming, necros are supposed to suck. We are the punchbag role so that 87,5% of the players can feel good about themselves and makes them spend more on gemstore. Its not like Anet is hiding this fact very well.

Are you serious? If you’re at least a decent necro you can hold your ground in a simple 1v1.
As for the stability, I also think necro desperately needs some of it. I’m getting pushed around all over the map due to rangers, engis and warriors. Although I do have 30 in SR, choosing foot in the grave over deathly perception would decrease my dps by a ton. I hope anet sees this…

Might stacking power necro

Life Blast cast time is 1.5 second, affercast is not listed. Poor choice for Sigil of Might I’d say, it’s better with more frequent hitting skills.

Take new Strenght Runes if you have enough money.

Affercast? Skill description days 1 sec, and when I compare might of first lb hit (15 sec) and of second lb hit, it disappears exactly after 1 second….
And I have 4 frequent hitting skills; life siphon, life transfer, tainted shackles and well of suffering. Life transfer gets you 3 stacks, tainted shackles also, life siphon 2 or 3 and we’ll of suffering can get you around 5 stacks.

So, how does this trait work? It’s very vaguely described. “5% of your condition damage heals you” does it mean that I cause a bleed which does 100 per tick I get 5 regen as long as my target keeps bleeding? Or does it add to healing power?

Life blast isn’t hitting sometimes. This happened for the first time in PVP. It shoots and passes through the target but doesn’t hit. It happened to me for the first time after the patch. No testing. My game settings are all low.

Might stacking power necro

Hey guys, I have a power necro (with dagger mainhand) and found one way to improve your dagger/axe damage. The idea is to shoot some life blasts and get might. You’ll need 2 things:

1. Reapers might (gain 1 stack of might for 15 seconds when you cast life blast)
2. Sigil of strength (60% chance on critical get might for 10 seconds with 1 sec cooldown) 3. (< this one is optional but will get you more might while in DS) deathly perception (50% critical chance while in DS)

With this setup you will get 1 might every life blast with a 60% chance to get another might (if you have around 100% crit chance with deathly perception) with a cooldown of one sec. And since life blast has a 1 sec casting time the CD of the sigil doesn’t matter.
With life transfer alone you can get 3 stacks of might!

How to best use this is to shoot 4-6 life blasts which can result in 4-12 stacks of might. (Usually around 8-9) what you do than is swap out of DS and spam dagger/axe #1 (although dagger is a lot better).

On dagger – With my 50% crit chance and 206% crit damage out of DS, 8-9 stacks of might, and maybe additional vuln (from my focus which I have on offhand) dagger 1.1 does 2X 1-1.5k dmg, dagger 1.2 does 1.5-2.5k and dagger 1.3 does 3-4.5k dmg.
On axe – I’m not sure but I guess it would be around 1.5k dmg for the auto and 4-6.5k for axe #2

Combine this with blood is power an you can easily get 20 stacks of might which will improve your even more!

Don’t take it personally. Hate is towards the map, not you or your class.
Who never raged after being OS with a single skill from Skyhammer 3 times in a row ? Ranger, Necro, Guard, War, whatever, I hate them all the same during my fall to death

Ah, this brings back some good memories. Although I really hated sky hammer due to falling to my death quite a lot, I have started to like it more and more after my duels with a warrior there. I killed him 3 times by running over those glass tiles, going back, spectral pulling him on the tile, and finishing with a dark pact. He was cool about it and we ended up being friends, but he got me back good with his hammer -.- people should accept that fear necros, hammer warriors, etc exist.

I run dagger mainland in PvP, and yes people I have done my traits, runes, sigils, etc. I have noticed that with same build my necrotic slash in dager was first 2x 811 and now 2x 788, so that ha also been reduced. Idk what’s happened but it looked like power necro got nerfed.

Oh I didn’t know it was that useful…. I’ll check it out because I do a lot of DS bunkering and I’ll like the extra LF.

Got same build, my damage is still the same, even more because I now have 230% crit damage ?

I’ve got 200 with 97% crit chance in DS, but all I’ve been hitting today are 2k’s

Hey guys,
Have any of you noticed how life blast does a lot less dmg since the patch? I used to be 3 shotting thiefs with 3.5-5k per LB, but now it only does about 2-2.5k dmg, EVEN on ele and other necros… Does anyone know what happened? I have a 6/2/0/0/6 build atm (30/10/0/0/30)
(Ps. This is for PvP, haven’t checked WvW or PvE yet…)

Warhorn? I consider that the worst actually. 2 sec daze…. Could be used as heal interrupt i guess but DS 3 would too, as well as flesh golem charge. And locust swarm just gives some more mobility and a bit of dmg but overall not much. Why do u consider it the best?

I like dagger over focus.

Focus 4 gives you a nice spike, focus 5 is worthless most of the time in pvE. Both Dagger 4 and 5 are fantastic in PvE and pvp. Dagger 5 has a huge AoE which is great for tagging, and weakness is really good vs bosses. Dagger 4 cleaves to three targets, is ranged, and blinds and clears your conditions.

I suppose for optimum theorycrafting DPS, focus is better than dagger (but Warhorn is better than focus).

Hey there Hollts. I personally prefer to use focus over dagger. Focus 4 provides solid damage, vuln, AND regen. Focus 5 is a great boon strip / CC to open with or to use when your opponent decides they’ve had enough and tries to run. Dagger 4 is a great condi clear / blind, but I replace that with Plague Signet for the clear (no blind, but meh). Never really cared much for Dagger 5. Maybe it’s just me.

However, take into account that you will look WAY cooler dual wielding daggers. Always a factor in choosing.

Oh ok, I get what ur saying. But atm I don’t have any weakness in my build, is that bad? I love that condition a lot because 50% o the time the guy does 50% less dmg. Wouldn’t it be better than to have dagger #5?

Hey guys,
I’ve been playing necro for a few months now and I’m still not sure which (dagger or focus) offhand I should be using. My main hand is dagger/x atm and I run staff too. In PvE I’ve been using dagger/dagger for a long time but since I started PvP I have also been using focus. I run a power 30/10/0/0/30 build which focuses on heavy life blast/transfer dmg. When I’m not in death shroud I do a combo which consists of spectral grasp>dark pact> well of suffering> (reapers touch sometimes)> some dagger 1’s and than I continue into DS. In PvP I’ve been getting hurt by condis a lot. 50% of the time a condi is in top 3 things that hurt the most. So I’ve been seriously considering using dagger offhand because of #4 (deathly swarm <blind which transfers 3 condis and bounces>) and also because I’m quite familiar with it. The only thing stopping me is focus 4 which adds some nice vulnerability and does more dmg than deathly swarm. Also #5 is very useful for boon tank warrior/guardians. So what do you guys think will fit best into my whole build thing?
Ps. Only for pvp
