So your saying GS/hammer is not a very viable option? I’ve been looking around on YT and found some guard videos of hmmer/GS in a team which worked pretty well…

And I know that in top 300 anything it probably won’t do too good but it’s just for some casual solo Q.

But I’m not really asking on the weapon setup because I know that I’m not changing it (:3). Just asking if it’s worth it to take 2handedmastery.

I really like hammer and GS, but I see people say that you NEED focus? Why is this?
For my GS/hammer build i was planning to go 2/1/6/1/4 but when I tried it with two handed mastery it all just went a lot smoother…. So is 2/1/6/4/1 ok?

To make up for the loss of the absolute trait (3 condi removed on f2) [forgot the names, I’m pretty new to guard] I put sigil of generosity on GS….

Any thought on that build? I tried it out yesterday and i wrecked face in hotjoint (also probably because of 700+ hours on GW2 and on my necro but still….

Also, why is mighty blow so awesome? 1500 base damage on 5 second cooldown blast finisher 0-0

Good vid! Have you tried this build in tpvp ? I sometimes play a similar build in WvW, but it never seemed that effective in structured pvp.

I have actually, and It worked out pretty well with stability, stealth, reliever S stomps and rezzes, might stacking (HGH also gives to allies if you toss elixirs) and overall lotta boons for your buddies.

I really prefer this build over Balthazar+rabid because more condi dmg (from might stacks), safe range to do stuff from, and no condi weakness! formula 409 with hoelbrak is reaaaallly nice for an engi. In the vid you saw me against 2 different condi necro’s and I did pretty well (If I say so myself :P) Also, shrapnel+grenades is awesomeeee.

The only thing keeping me from running this build 24/7 is no toolkit blocks, and no fire/smoke/water field [:(]. Other than I really enjoy this build and am a bit surprised that not many other people play this spec.

Fleshwurm in sPvP

You can teleport everywhere with worm, where you can also teleport to with lightning flash, thief SB 5, blink, phase retreat, etc.
If you watch videos on those you may find some spots you haven’t thought of before.

One spot i know of is that you can teleport onto the ‘higher part’ of middle node on forest with it. <probably a little vague but whatever :P

For your last 2 pointe you should really be using it to get more LF.
Either do what brandon said (soul Marks’ and Mark on Dodge) or get reapers precision. You hit a LOT of times with wells, dagger, life transfer, focus 4, staff AA, dagger 2 etc which can all crit and give you a lot more LF.

Curses also gets you more precision, which is always usefull.

But it’s up to you pack/strength/ and ogre are your best choices… I prefer strength but again, it’s up to you.

Hey guys,
Quick question…
So I’m condi roamer and stack up corruption stacks (from sigil) at the wolfs on the right side of the borderland maps, but when I switch to my other pistol (with geomancy) I lose my stacks.
I thought I would keep them, because I read on various places that you keep them. But not with me.
(I use an honor of the waves pistol with corruption, and a rabid emblazoned pistol with geomancy)

What am I doing wrong?

For PvE I’d argue dagger/WH axe/focus should get the job done quicker, while still offering lots of CC.

Hi all,
I’m a devoted necromancer and (necro) YouTuber, but lately I’ve been exploring other professions. And you guessed it, mesmer is one of them. As a power necro (without much of a burst), I really like the bursts available to a shatter mesmer (4X MW in a blurred frenzy while iDuelist is unloading is the best).

So lately I’ve watched some YouTube vids (and read the stickies in the forums) of shatter mesmers (Vash, Joe, etc.) and learned quite a lot that I put to use in hotjoint matches, and I did pretty well.
I’ve mainly been using Vash’s sword+T/GS build, and Joe’s assassin’s sword+P/Staff build and played those builds for about a week each before recording stuff.

I always like to get better, and since I have a running YT account I made a vid (with music :P) to demonstrate how I play.

I really like the look of this build. It’s going to be hard to break away from the survivability WoD and Blood traits give me, but the power of DS looks like it could make up for it. I’m guessing this build works well in PvE as well, just without the Spectral skills?

Yea just a standaard power build.
Just use WoC and WoS. 3rd is optional. And you might want axe/Warhorn instead of staff…

You should really reconsider. When you take focus you ofcourse lose everything a warhorn would get you, but it does give:
-awesome ‘burst’ LF regen
-regen (not too useful)
-lots more damage than warhorn
-boon removal and chill, always useful
-vuln stacking (12 stacks)

Well in general condi is more viable. Power offers some insane burst, but it’s also a lot easier to take down.

Most necs are currently running this build in pvp.

And no, you’re not in WvW, you shouldn’t really run hybrid necs in rated play :P But they are good for 1v1 servers.

You shouldn’t run necromancer in general in rated PvP, but people still do it :P
Give it a shot, who cares what you can/can’t run

Why pick staff?

So for the classic shatter 44006 GS/Staff mesmer, what are the primary reasons for picking staff?
Is the boons? The range? Phase retreat (awesome skill)? Or a combination of those?

Recently I’ve been playing 44006 with torch and sword (and torch and sword traits) and found it to have comparable defense to staff. Mainly due to 2 1/2 sec invuln, 3 second stealth and teleport, While still doing good damage staff 2/torch 5.
And, with the torch traits, also decent condi removal.

So could some one clear this up?

I think this is more build specific. Every one can make a full glass build on any class and call it high risk; which it will be, but that doesn’t make the class high risk. Yes necro’s have low mobility, but are not high risk. (On most builds)

To elaborate on my earlier point about condition damage’s relevance, consider the list of conditions, themselves.

Condition – performance factors
Bleed – condition damage and duration
Blind – duration but only single use so little effect from stats
Burning – condition damage and duration like bleed, except Necro is not designed for burning so burning is on Life Blast, stacks in duration only
Chill – duration only
Confusion – condition damage and duration like bleed, except Necro is not designed for confusion
Cripple – duration only
Fear - duration only except if the Terror trait is used, then also condition damage but Fear access is relatively infrequent despite being a major mechanic and Terror being strong
Immobilize – duration only
Poison – condition damage and duration but poison only stacks in duration, not intensity
Torment – condition damage and duration like bleed
Vulnerability – duration only and stacks in intensity (anti-Might)
Weakness – duration only

Bleed is the primary beneficiary of condition damage on Necromancer followed by Poison. Terror, Burning, and Torment also benefit but are not strong contributors to overall damage unless traited and/or frequently used in DS.

Every condition benefits from duration, which is part of the Spite trait line. Scepter is the MH weapon which most takes advantage of condition damage followed by Staff. Off-hand weapons have longer ICD and are more multi-purpose.

Only Bleed, Torment, and Confusion stack in intensity. The only weapon Necromancer has to take full advantage of the condition damage stat is Scepter. Sigils and runes are necessary to proc additional effects more frequently and are open to all professions.

I just wish necro had more torment. For a ‘necro only condition’ mesmers do a kitten good job of apying it. Add it to staff auto attack and problem solved….

Tanky mobile spectral power build

Another take on spectral power build. This one a lot more tanky due to soldiers amulet.

Why soldiers?: with runes of the pack and furious demise you have 3/4 fury uptime, so that would be 44% crit chance. The only loss is ~30% crit damage, but that is in exchange for 600 vit/toughness.

With mobile I mean perma (and overstacking) swiftness and 2 teleports, which is pretty good for a necro.

Why 2 in death magic?: usually people go 2/6/0/0/6 but I’m not fond of spamming LB, and the minor trait sucks, so I went two in DM for +100 toughness always, +10% boon duration, +170 toughness in DS, and +400 toughness while channelling, which you should be doing almost always.

I think EVERY skill needs different versions for different game modes, would make things a little more balanced.

Pretty much, because mobs don’t play by character rules.

they drop damage that make any zerker drool, while taking hit after hit that would wipe bunker builds on the spot.

Never mind that nearly none of the big PVE fights come anywhere close to the capture point mechanic that is so central to the SPVP focused character balance.

At this point PVE and SPVP may well be two different games that happens to share art assets.

Yup, i dont get why Anet doesnt go through with the idea.

Its a bit more than that according to my math.

Current base heal 238 per tick, 2142 full channel
Current ratio 0.05 per tick, 0.45 full channel
With 1000 healing power, you get 2592, with Bloodthirst 3110

Changes are 25% increase to base, 75% increase to ratio
Changed base heal 298 per tick, 2682 full channel
Changed ratio 0.0875, 1.38 full channel
With 1000 healing power you get 4062, with Bloodthirst 4874

All numbers were taken from in game, because the wiki is wrong.

Lol at first when i started the game i thought retal worked like a complete melee and ranger reflect.
For example: 12k backstab woul be 12k damage to you, but than figured out it was always a base amount :’(

Not really sure what you are trying to ask but…
I don’t like using the word viable, instead, I use good/bad.
For example a 3/3/3/3/2 build (just random) will probably be not as good as a standard 6/2/0/0/6 power necro.
So no, not every build is ‘viable’.

Now, I watched your video and I saw you got some decent bleed stacks going from Barbed Precision, but with those bleeds being only 2" long, I don’t think you realise HOW LITTLE damage the 432 condition damage celestial gave you added: bleeding scales quite badly, at 0.05 of condition damage according to the wiki. So, for 6 stacks of 2" bleeds (which seems to be the maximum you got), your amulet added 259 damage. Not per bleed, but for the whole 6-bleed stack, over its entire 2" duration. (For comparison, if you had 20 might stacks, the extra condition damage from those would have added nearly twice as much damage, 420.) So it’s clear that getting condition damage just for barbed precision procs isn’t a great use of your attributes. So that’s 2 attributes you’re not using. If you were using Dhuumfire, or Terror, that might be a different deal, cause those scale with condition damage much better, at 0.25 in fact, and have a much higher base (at 0 condition damage you need about 10 stacks of bleed to do the damage of 1 burn). But you’re not, which is my point.

We therefore see that the main benefits you’re getting from that ammy is power, precision, ferocity, toughness, vitality. At that level, you’re gaining benefit from 2190 attribute points. (Yes, I know not all attributes are equally valuable, but for the sake of argument). Well, the normal 3-point stat distribution amulets already give you slightly more than that, so, while celestial is still a decent deal, I’m not sure it’s worth sacrificing the extra Power you’d get with another amulet. For instance, you already have Deathly Perception, and a lot of points invested in Curses, so, if you went for a Carrion amulet instead of celestial you’d still have a 98% crit chance with Fury (which you’ve traited) in DS. The extra power would more than make up for the reduced Ferocity (I did the maths, life blast would hit for about the same), but here’s the bonus: 932 points of condition damage. If you swapped out the warhorn trait for Terror, like some people have been doing, then with 20 stacks of Might your fears would tick for 1200 dps, and that’s in addition to the extra damage your Barbed Precision procs and your Torment stacks would do. Alternatively, you could go for a Soldier’s or Barbarian’s amule, still have 98% crit chance in DS, and be A LOT tankier. You coudl even (Grenth help me) get a Rampager’s amulet (urgh!) and drop Deathly Perception for 2 points in another traitline, since you won’t need the extra crit chance from DP. You could even drop another 2 points from Curses and get Dhuumfire – with the extra might, your burns will be proccing for as much as rabid or carrion amulets would. Though I get that’s a different build entirely

In short, no, nobody has a problem with Celestial per se. It’s just that might stacking builds don’t HAVE to use celestial, not if they’re not getting the full benefit from it, and with this build (with you spending so much time in DS and barbed precision being your only condi damage) you’re not. It’s more like celestial builds HAVE to use might stacking, because celestial’s damage is so sub-par without 15+ might stacks…

I agree taking signet of the locust is a very good idea especially on a buile that uses banshees wail and pretty much has 100% swiftness so signet of the locust is very useful for more speed above the 33% yesyesyesyesyesyes

I’m pretty sure you can’t go above 133% base speed, it’s capped. So you won’t be running at 158% base if you have both SoL and swiftness, only 33%.

Actually wiki says that in-combat speed is actually capped at 25%, which I didn’t know! So even with swiftness you’ll only be moving 125% base.

Btw, I don’t only use condition damage only for the barbed precision procs, there are some more (not a lot more though), other condi’s that it’s really useful for. Sure barbed precision will be the most damaging, but don’t forget staff, BiP and tainted shackles!
I’m lazy but with a rough average: tainted shackles; I would say at least an extra 1k torment damage. BiP; probably ~2k. Staff; idk but mark of blood does 2k bleed, so that really helps.

Now, carrion/terror+PoC, would be your best bet for hybrid build for sure, but thats not what I was going for. With banshees wail you get a lot more swiftness and and extra sec of daze, and with spectral trait a lot more sustain with LF regen.

But what did you think of the clips in video? I thought it did very nice damage for the sustain it gives…

But again, it comes down to preference. I just don’t think an extra 400 condi dmg, 200 power/vit a good trade off is for the sustain and less dmg celestial gives :/
