My idea of a Druid usually means a few things:
- health regeneration (Regeneration boon)
- damage shield (Retaliation boon)
- movement speed (+25% movement speed trait / Swiftness boon)
- teleportation (on staff or utility skill)
- damage over time (Poison / Bleeding / Torment conditions)
- movement speed debuff (cripple/immobilize)
I like the idea of Regeneration boon being enhanced more, like Oakheart Salve. For example, a trait that doubles its healing effect, which also works on allies. Or making it scale with power, toughness or vitality rather than healing power.
Maybe we’ll get more access to Retaliation. But very selfish Retaliation, so not like Guardian. I’m thinking Protective Ward, but it applies Retaliation.
Of course, I hope for a +25% movement speed trait. Hopefully without ristriction. Chronomancer got it and even has -25% duration on cripple/chilled/immobilize on top of it.
I need staff to have a teleport if it wants to compete with Greatsword. It needs to have the mobility of Swoop.
I guess Druid is getting small damaging conditions like Poison Bleeding and Torment. I wouldn’t care for it a whole lot, but it makes sense for the theme to me. We also already have Poison Master and Hidden Barbs to go with it. Torment could be a new condition for Rangers, it does go a bit with the vine theme.
Talking about vine theme, I expect more stuff like Entangle and Muddy Terrain with Immobilize and Cripple. Hopefully we get a trait that buffs Cripple further. Maybe +50% duration to cripple to counter all these -% to cripple traits and foods.
As for the class mechanic… Just add F5 which revives/50% heals the pet. The pet can’t be killed for 5 seconds after. 20s cooldown.

Very nice, love your work
Looking forward to the next one, which I already know what it’s gonna be!
I do think it’s funny that they said they wouldn’t release the expansion until it was ready and polished, but now they’ve already picked an official release date before even having revealed the Ranger and Engineer elite specialisations and before Warrior, Thief and Revenant elite specs even had a beta weekend.
You all guyz are missing a point here.
I think this topic is mostly about the usefulness of Allies’ Aid, Search & Rescue and Rune of Mercy for reviving. How the rest of the build is done is largely irrelevent and doesn’t say much about the usefulness of the skills in question. The rest of the build is important, but I don’t think it’s the point of this topic. Reviving skills could work in different kinds of builds.
For example, I run Allies’ Aid on my WvW longbow Ranger and it’s great. I’m rarely close enough to help out, but even I find Allies’ Aid to be on cooldown from time to time. So it makes sense to me that some are itching to pick up Search & Rescue or Rune of Mercy. I do think investing more than Allies’ Aid could potentially be worth it.
Someone brought up some great points about how Quickening Zephyr would be better than Search & Rescue at reviving on top of being able to do a bunch of other things. That’s something to take into consideration.
I would advise taking small steps from a good build that works to a more revive-orientated build and not to go overboard with it. Start with Allies’ Aid since that’s almost no investment. Then think about adding Quickening Zephyr, Resounding Timbre, Rune of Mercy and/or Search & Rescue, but only 1 at a time. Just take your time, so play each step for a week before adding more revive-orientated skills.
thief and guardian res bots are better
Ranger is the fastest rezzer though.
Thats why I think adding Rune of Mercy to Allies’ Aid might be good since it would make it even faster and add 400 toughness and give extra health.
But adding Search & Rescue would probably be a waste. However, he would have to test it out. The tooltip doesn’t say what the cooldown on Allies’ Aid is. Adding Search & Rescue could still be amazing, especially with Resounding Timbre lowering the cooldown and having Rune of Mercy. Likely overkill, but possibly amazing.
But it might work best in small scale WvW.
The less of a burden the pet is, the less people care how bad it is. It’s our enormous dependance on the pet that makes it bad. It’s designed closer to a handicap than a strength.
We have less strength on the Ranger, because the pet also gets something.
We have traits, even grandmaster traits that completely stop working without a living pet.
We have utility skills that require a living pet or they stop working completely.
Thats why people have been asking to play without a pet. If it was just something fun and extra like thief steal or warrior burst or guardian virtues, it would have been fine. But Rangers are handicapped by it. That’s not a pet class.
No other class has to depend on their class mechanic for their traits to work.
No other class has class mechanic traits everywhere.
No other class has utility skills that require their class mechanic.
No other class can lose their class mechanic.
No other class has to give something up because they have a class mechanic.
They should have made pets fun. Focussed on support, boons, healing, conditions, control, AoE, etc. Not on damage and handicap.
A dead pet causing the swap cooldown to be 300% of what it usually is screams handicap and punishment, which can’t even always be blamed on the player.
So more dependance on the pet would be disgusting and the polar opposite of what everyone wants.
Trap Ranger in WvW is actually pretty overpowered with trapper runes.
There is only 1 major flaw with the pet mechanic.
Pet swap is on a 20s cooldown, which is fine.
But a dead pet is on a 60s cooldown, which is ridiculous.
The chances of a dead pet causing the death of the other pet is huge. It ends up in an infinite cycle of 60s cooldowns.
So periods where several traits, utility skills and even weapon skills become either worthless or lose their value.
A dead pet should have a 20s pet swap cooldown. 30s tops for a dead pet. So a 50% increase, not a 200% increase.
I think this could work. But Allies’ Aid alone is already excellent. The only downside is that it has a cooldown. So it makes sense you want to take Search & Rescue with it. But that has a huge cooldown (85s), which is just a ridiculous price to pay (1 utility slot). Allies’ Aid might have the same cooldown, but it’s not much of an investment, which is what makes it worth it. The adept traits competing with Allies’ Aid are as good as garbage.
Rune of Mercy would be better than Search & Rescue, but also a bit overkill. Allies’ Aid on its own is already fast. But the runes would come in handy when the trait is on cooldown. The extra toughness and health will also be good.
I’ve played with Allies’ Aid and love it. So try combining it with Rune of Mercy first, so without Search & Rescue. Then only add Search & Rescue if it frequently happens that you wish Allies’ Aid was off cooldown and you have a utility slot to spare(not likely).
Green Moa
Swiftening Screech (25s cooldown)
20s swiftness
number of targets: 5
radius: 600
Plated Behemoth
Defying Roar (19s cooldown)
10s Retaliation
(15s traited = same cooldown as Beastly Warden)
I was thinking of the trait on several other classes that gives +20% damage, but they require the opponent to be below 50% health. So I guess this one would be a bit more OP.
How about +10% damage and +10% boon duration to up to 5 allies in a 600 range AoE (think Spotter).
Not sharing your build because popular builds used to get nerfed.
But I dare to say that right now what the ranger need are means that would force them to aknowledge the very existence of their unique mechanism : their pet.
That’s already the case. I think most want less pet, not more pet. We are already too much handicapped by pets (by a dead pet anyway).
Making us more reliant on pets and forcing us to acknowledge them even more would be disgusting.
But if you can come up with this stuff then I’m sure ANet might have beaten you to it. That would be so disappointing I didn’t even consider it a possibility.
I said from the start I don’t understand aspects and switching between them because we have a ton of pet traits and skills and weapons buffing pets that it would be a big mistake to remove pets.
I don’t consider it impossible that we don’t get aspects/glyphs.
But please, not pets, anything but pets.
I cannot fathom why they haven’t fixed the issue of pet F2’s that buff, where instead of running to you they base their positioning on the enemy…
Moa don’t do that. Brown bear does though. I don’t know about Fern Hound.
I agree, but only if the Ranger has top priority and the players inside the Ranger’s party are 2nd priority.
They should make the spirit grandmaster trait baseline. Everything on it baseline. Then a new GM trait that makes spirits mobile.
Actually, switch the new GM trait with Bountiful Hunter. So the mobile spirit trait is in the adept slot and Bountiful Hunter is GM. Then make Bountiful Hunter +20% damage while you have a boon.
(edited by Holland.9351)
I hope they don’t involve the pet this heavily. That would just be disgusting.
I do think it’s interesting that you would pick Aspect with the grandmaster trait, like how Thief decides how his dodge is changed though grandmaster traits. However, the datamining seemed to suggest that you would be able to switch between aspects.
(edited by Holland.9351)
Rangers aren’t really about a single high damage crit that costs 90% of your build, but it’s possible.
I think they should add ladders to the game. O wait, ladders would be OP. Literally.
In any case, whatever happens if Druid is lackluster in any way I’ll just be sticking with vanilla ranger.
Me too. It would need at least a 25% movement speed trait like the mesmers got.
There is actually a chance the shark pet will finish you off, but only like a chance of 1 in 1000. Pretty cool. (of course not)
Yep, which would suggest 3 aspects
btw, it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t get glyphs or aspects at all. Maybe we still get concecrations or mantras or something. Maybe they ran out of time and instead of coming up with 18 skills they would only have to come up with 6.
If u’r right i’ll be very sad
Helping you keep your expectations low
I mean when all classes got a cool new heal out of the blue, we got Water Spirit.

Yeah there is too much pet stuff that would make a petless druid a bad thing. Unless they are going to overhaul our traits and utility and weapon skills (several affect only the pet).
I might actually be disappointed if the pet was removed because of it. It just wouldn’t work and make stuff worthless to druids. Some are even Minor traits, like Fortifying Bond and Alpha Training, so it’s not like they would have a choice.
Incredible.
Email to players announces all the new specializations except Ranger
Anyone want to join me tomorrow (Monday) hitting Anet on twitter?
It’s time we made some noise in public – the forums are being ignored – Rangers are not being given the attention that all other professions have been given to a one.
I will be sending Anet my “love” on twitter tomorrow.
Engineer also isn’t in that email, and for obvious reasons, both were not officially announced …
Hmmm. that email has me thinking… quick someone calculate the over/under that either Ranger, Engi, or both will not be released with the HOT go live but will come after…
Calculating… 0%!
Seriously, my expectations are low since I’ve been disappointed many times before (Water Spirit anyone?), but don’t overdo it.
The elite specialization might be a worthless buggy mess, but it will be including in the HoT release.
The datamined place holders icons for glyphs that suggests the aspects number(set of 5 glyphs x 3) http://imgur.com/a/TzR20
It’s pretty interesting that the colors don’t seem to add up. There are 3 bright red ones, but not 5 for example and then there are some different shades of green and blue, but none complete a set of 5 and rarely a set of 3 or more. Also one glyph has as set of 4 icons and another has a set of 2 icons.
Another interesting thing is that elementalist Glyph icons don’t change color when switching attunements. So why should the Ranger?
All we know so far is this
> Your aspect swaps are faster. Each target affected by your swap recharges your glyphs.
So, keywords are aspect and glyphs.
Elementalist uses Glyphs which are utility skills which change based on their attunement (class mechanic – f1, f2, f3, f4)
So it seems Ranger is getting the same with changing utility skills, but based on aspects.
There is already something called Aspect in the game, which also seem to be a lot like attunements. However, it isn’t the first time ANet uses the same name for different things (Ferocity for example).
We don’t know for sure how aspects will work, but it looks like we are getting utility skills that change. It’s not likely that also the staff skills change.
Quick Draw only works in combat (like the million other ranger traits that only work in combat)
Wouldn’t all damaging proc sigils have this problem? including fire and blood?
We’ve only had 1 beta weekend yet for those classes, maybe they won’t tweak them as much after the next beta weekend and rather focus on thief, warrior and revenant elites. Then for the last beta weekend they’d mostly only focus on ranger and engineer.
Took me whole min to test it. No theory crafting needed.
Thanks. Time to get rid of it. It might only rarely happen, but it needs to be as reliable as I can possibly make it.
Yeah it should be fixed, but don’t wait for it.
Just go with Sigil of Force or Sigil of Accuracy instead. Or another sigil that doesn’t proc damage.
I mean I might even change it. When Hunter’s Shot doesn’t work for me, I sometimes don’t know what caused it since there are so many ways for it to fail. The angle could be wrong, they could have evaded or blocked or I was blinded or they reflected or destroyed the projectile or maybe they got hit by barrage. The stealth is quite unreliable when you think about it. If Sigil of Air also causes reveal 1/20 times, then I may just have to get rid of it.
Looks like it might be a melee weapon.
Well I tried it myself a few days ago. and Hunter’s shot didn’t reveal me when it crit and procced Sigil of Air.
Maybe it has to do with ping? Could a delay in the connection do it? I’m not sure. But maybe tell us what your ping is as well (bottom right in options window).
Or maybe it’s down to chance? Does this happen to you every single time or only sometimes?
Yep only 1 beta weekend for Ranger and Engineer.
That doesn’t say all that much. They also kept the order on this page:
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/
But skipped Ranger.
In fact, the order on your list is incorrect
(edited by Holland.9351)
I’m hoping it won’t be as bad as I fear it might be. So I guess I still have some hope left.
If it’s good, I’m curious how good it’ll be.
If it’s bad, I’m curious how hilariously bad it’ll be.
The release date is now officially October 23.
The earliest chance for a new reveal is on friday september 11.
The earliest chance of the final reveal is on friday september 18.
The earliest chance of a beta weekend will be on september 25.
4 weeks after that they’ll release the game.
I’ll get some of this to the right direction.
- Sigils do not get you out of stealth. Tested a hundred times.
- Lead the Wind only postpones the stealth. If you hit 5 targets with Hunter’s Shot, you will get stealth after your projectile disappears. You will only get stealth if at least 1 target was hit.
- Any Direct damage will break the stealth. Traps, Entangle and Barrage included.
Which means everything should be clear to all of us at this point.
You’re right. neither Sigil proc nor hitting multiple targets will cause reveal.
Barrage is usually the culprit and i wish there was a fix for that, but maybe it’s fair.
No. On September 4th will be the new beta weekend, but Ranger and Engineer won’t be included.
If Rangers and Engineers get to be tested in a beta weekend, it’ll probably be on September 18th at the earliest.
If it really does break with Sigil proc, then I might just get Sigil of Force instead. I’m going to have to test it.
If piercing breaks the stealth as well, then the skill needs to be changed. They could just take the damage away from it, because it’s very low anyway. They could give it a condition instead, like cripple, immobilize, blind, vulnerability, weakness or poison.
Barrage hits will kick you out of stealth instantly, but I suppose it could be sigil procs as well… interesting. That would be a bug then.
I’d like to see a 1200 range targetable Teleport on a 15s cooldown to replace Swoop, so I can run Staff instead of Greatsword. It would allow for better positioning without losing map travel speed.
It shouldn’t do anything else. No damage, no boons, no condi clear, nothing. Just a 1200 range teleport on a low cooldown.
Savage Leap might be the best leap in the game though.

balance update!Firstly, I believe Engineer will be last. Secondly why doesn’t Ranger get an update in that list?
Because it’s a bit of a troll and salty list of the worst expectation for Ranger possible. Unfortunately we’re on track so far, which I thought was both funny and sad.
I have the same problem.
It’s especially annoying that it happens when entering water. The screen also freezes for a few seconds and then displays everything in native mode. Now I’m going to have to avoid all the water

What would be interesting is if stealthed players could see other stealthed players. Then mesmers could counter eachother
