I love not having to worry about a gear grind. Never ending hurdle to raid for hours a week, every week, to keep up with the current level of stats. I played WoW for 4 years and I was a hardcore raider. There were raids I loved and raids I didn’t like so much. Raids that I just wasn’t in the mood to do or was just sick of farming each and every week for that one item that is an upgrade in stats. I don’t miss the gear grind at all.
But I do miss raiding. I would love to do raiding in this game. I would love it more if the rewards weren’t gear with higher stats, but was instead armor with different looks that could not be gotten anywhere else. I love raiding because it can be challenging and fun. Attaching a gear grind to raiding always made it feel like a job to me and that’s why I quit wow. I just want to do it for fun, when I want to. I don’t want to feel like if I miss a week of raiding I fell behind.
i think there are a lot of people in this game who would love to raid just for the fun and challenge of it, and the reward of having another beautiful armor set/weapon with no increased stats.
I agree. I would like to see these issues addressed. But I don’t feel they hinder me in anyway. If someone is wasting time to see which clone has an offhand equipped, they’re already dead. If someone is wasting time tab-targetting through my clones to see which has a signet boon, they’re already dead.
I think there are more important issues with clones to be fixed. I play my mesmer as melee 95% of the time. I would love it if Illusionary Leap didn’t fail on uneven terrain.

I want to solo a dragon in a one player dungeon for my precursor. I want it to be a really hard and fun fight. And I want the title dragon slayer after killing it.
I have only one character. I’ve always loved crafting in WoW, so when I made my character in this game I decided to start crafting right away. As a mesmer, I went for tailoring and jewelcrafting. I leveled it a little ahead of my actual levels. So I always had the best gear I could get with each level. I found it to be really rewarding. The leveling gear you create with crafting is probably better than any thing you’ll find on monsters. That being said, I was also the poorest out of all my friends in game. But to me it was worth it.
I’m still missing about 200 of each tier 6 material, 100 charged lodestones and zap. that’s it really.
Update 3/3/2013:
I still need about 200 of each tier 6 material, 40 charged lodestones, 110 ectos, and precursor.
Update 3/14/2013
I need 15 charged lodestones, 12 ectos, about 200 of each tier 6 mat and the precursor.
Update 3/17/2013
I need 10 charged lodestones, and about 200 of each tier 6 material for gift of might and magic.
I also just got supremely lucky in the mystic forge. I put in about 16 exotic swords into the MF that I bought with dungeon tokens. I figured that okay cause it wasn’t costing me anything. My homeboy says to try rares. I told him that would cost me money and the chance was super low so it would never work, just a waste of money. So I buy 20 rare swords just to prove to him it’s a waste of gold. And the first 4 rares I put in gave me Zap. I almost kitten myself. Couldn’t believe it.
Update 3/26/2013
So now I’m only missing 100 icy runestones, 139 elaborate totems, 150 vicious fangs, 150 vicious claws, and 184 armored scales. I’m having a hard time getting tier 6 materials, but I’m closer now than I was yesterday. So yeah, those are the only things I’m missing at this point.
Update 3/28/2013
I’m missing only 150 Vicious Fangs and 100 Icy Runestones. Going to try to get all the fangs this weekend and then just worry about Icy Runestones.
Update 3/29/2013
Okay. All I’m missing now are 100 icy runestones. I’m tempted to buy gems to convert to gold, but it’s so expensive. Don’t know what I should do. Will let you know. Hopefully the next update will be me saying the Legendary is made.

i would also like to know if anyone has tested this.
I know of 2 people who I’ve played with who have gotten a precursor from a chest in AC and a chest in CoF, so it’s definitely possible.
Based on few runs on transition grub spawns on closest target.
This is correct. Now that I think about it, Lupricus did have one stack of the grub buff on him and my group wasn’t sure where it came from since we were busy spreading out and no grubs spawned on any of us. So I guess during that transition from phase 1 to 2 one spawned on my cloned.
I tested this about 3 hours ago on my mesmer. I didn’t have any grubs spawn on any of my clones of phantasms.
that’s great. It will be so nice not having to worry about having clones getting grubs on them. Thanks for this change Robert.
so are clones unable to have grubs spawn on them now? i welcome that change. If someone has tested, let me know. thanks
Just for the record, since this thread has turned into a topic about gear and elites, a full exotic set is easy to get. And players like myself who had the game since launch are familiar with having to do dungeons long before having an exotic set. And any good player will tell you, having an exotic set doesn’t mean you don’t need to learn to play. You still need to dodge to survive. And dodging is something anyone can do whether they are in blues or exotic. If you don’t want your survivability to be up to you, then you need to play a game with dedicated healers and tank. I love the combat in this game and I find it very refreshing to not have holy trinity.
And being a casual is not synonymous with being a bad player. Being casual just means you don’t play for extended periods of time. Being a bad player just means you either are unable to learn the mechanics of your profession, monsters, and the game in general, or unwilling to. This change simply doesn’t cater to bad players. It has nothing to do with being a casual player.
If your excuse for being a bad player is cause you’re casual, then I have to say that excuse it pretty pathetic. Evading damage by rolling is a core element in this game. Either get with the program or it’s just not for you.
And dungeons are recommended for 5 people. If someone does happen to make a fatal error, we’re all human afterall, you have 4 other people to pick you back up.
Just for the record. I don’t know anyone in this game, whether they be so called elitist, or casual, who watches boss fights videos to learn the mechanics before doing the dungeon. This game isn’t hardcore like that. There aren’t any raids or serious content in this game. This entire game is really casual. 99% of people, including both “elitists” and casuals, learned to play simply by playing. Now if playing the game is simply just too hard for you, then just say that. No need to throw stones at anyone or call them an elitist because they’re good at the game.
Bosses that encourage players to stand at max range and just spam 1 until it’s over aren’t enjoyable at all…. TA forward/up and up path end bosses are really bad. Not even fun. I like the forward/forward end boss though. The first boss in TA, the nightmare vine is an awesome fight that I never get tired of doing.
I love all the boss encounters in Arah exp. Imo, Lupricus is the best designed boss in this game. Alpha in CoE exp is great also. The bosses in SE story mode are great, especially the last two. There are more that I like, but these just stand out the most to me.
I couldn’t agree more. Most people who come to the official forums come to complain. I hope arenanet knows that a lot of the players who are satisfied with the game and its changes won’t bother to visit the forums. So it seems like most the pve community hates this changes. But I’m positive the only people against this change are bad players who run dungeons only for tokens, and not for fun and to be challenged.
I actually love this change that everyone in the party needs to be out of combat to use the waypoint. This is how it should have been from the beginning. Now if arena net would just fix the exploits so people actually have to learn to play, it would bring the challenge and fun back into dungeons.
I spent exactly 200 shards and got 80 mystic clovers. I did the 10xs recipe. I started off and the first 7 attempts didn’t yield any mystic clovers and I freaked out a little bit. But I kept going.
is this in game yet?
I was really hoping this patch would get rid of all the obvious and common exploits.
I really like your ideas, OP. I was just telling someone I wish arah had a more challenging path. And I actually said exactly that I didn’t just mean hard as in more HP. I want the mobs to have more abilties and skills, and better AI. I want them to move out of feedback and to dodge to evade also. Maybe that’s asking for too much. I really enjoy a challenge. I really don’t even mind if the rewards are the same as all the other paths as long as it’s fun and challenging.
Gandalf just got a legendary weapon with a nice skin. ANet needs to take a lesson out of Tolkien’s book. Legendary weapons that only have cool skins should only be found through luck. Truly legendary weapons should be forged through skill and mastery of one’s profession and not mind numbingly boring grinding.
fix’t that for you
Legendaries aren’t legendary at all imo. When I see someone with a legendary in gw2, I don’t say to myself, “wow that character must be a really skilled player.” I just think that guy is good at farming gold or makes enough money outside of the game to buy gold. You pretty much get karma every time you do an event, pvp, or a dungeon…. which is basically all there is to do so you get karma from doing everything. The wvwvw badges are easily acquired from doing the jumping puzzles. And the Map exploration is something most people eventually get around to doing anyway. And you earn skillpoints just from playing the game, because everything you do awards experience.
The skins are really nice. But there is no prestige for having a legendary in this game. You could be the worst at playing your class, but have a good system for farming gold and dynamic events and get a legendary.
I’ve accepted the fact that I’m an extraordinary player in terms of skill, but I suck at making gold. Or maybe I just don’t care enough to because farming gold has got to be one of the worst things to do in this game; turns it into a boring job. I want a legendary skin also, but I’ll just get there when I get there. Trying to compete with people who make more money in real life and can just afford to buy it, or compete with people are just machines when it comes to grinding gold doesn’t matter to me.
Now if acquiring legendaries were something like soloing dragons, gods, demons, and/or hordes of monsters in some epic long personal quest with the fate of Tyria at stake… now that’s something worth competing for. As it stands now, the skins are nice, but there is no prestige behind it, so it’s just “meh”. So I’m just not gonna torture myself trying to farm 1000 gold to buy a precursor and lodestones.
This is mostly for the duelers in join smaller games. Do you get a lot of unprovoked, hate messages from players you dueled, or played against in Spvp? I find myself, more than usual, receiving a lot of whispers from players calling me a B**ch, tw*t, f*g, n****r, and every other name you can think of over a match.
Or sometimes, it’s not that extreme, but I get people who try to discredit my win over them with an excuse. Like, “you only beat me because you play <insert class>.”
It’s gotten to a point that these same people are sending me messages saying they’re reporting me for using mods. Because obviously, if they lost, it has nothing to do with being outplayed; in their mind it’s because the other person is using mods. Twice today this happened.
What’s going on with this Spvp community. Has there been a shift at some point in the last month or so because I don’t remember it being this bad?
And I have a question for the devs:
How do you deal with players who were reported for using mods? I’m in a position right now where twice I have been reported for using mods and I haven’t, ever. I think the players doing the false reporting should be penalized in some way. It’s sad when a game’s community tries to get another player banned for losing a duel. Are these the type of players you want to keep playing the game?
I seem to be coming across more and more groups that like to use exploits to make bosses in dungeons easier. If I chose not to exploit, I die or could possibly get removed. If I complain about exploits, it starts an argument and could possibly lead to a kick. Dungeons are slowly becomming a place where you have to exploit or glitch parts of them in order to complete them. Not because the dungeon is impossible, but because 4 out of 5 people want to exploit. If you chose to not exploit with them, your gaming experience becomes about laying on the ground dead, being kicked from groups, or constant arguing. The problems don’t end there either, exploiting can cause you to be banned from the game. So it comes down to hopping on the exploiting bandwagon to experience pve (dungeons), or avoiding them altogether. I am not complaining or whining about exploits, but venting about my worry of being hit with a banhammer. Anyone else have this issue?
I couldn’t agree with this more. I have this problem everyday. It has ruined a lot of what I found fun in dungeons. It’s the norm now to glitch and exploit every boss encounter possible. It’s taboo for me to ask for a normal run because it will end in a kick or an argument. So when I join groups I tell them straight up that I want to do it regular without any exploits. They agree sometimes. And then continue to exploit and glitch and I’m just sitting there baffled, like “didn’t we just go over this.”
The problem is now that most people, especially new players now coming into the game really have no idea how to do any of the boss fights without glitching them and they think that’s the way to do it. Having everyone stand on the lamp post for the first boss encounter in arah path 3 and just afk auto attack till it’s over. Or in Twilight Arbor F/F path, glitch all the treants so they spawn in a spot where they can’t get down and group just afk auto attack after that.
This skipping mobs is annoying, but it isn’t an exploit. But if you include the fact that they’re skipping every possible mob and then glitching every possible boss, it totally ruins the experience. It’s not fun.
I asked this group earlier today why glitch a boss encounter that’s neither hard, broken, or poorly designed. The group says cause it’s not about having fun, it’s about farming tokens and proceeded to kick me from the group. It’s at a point now when it’s so normal to do exploit and glitch bosses, and it’s an actual insult to the group to expect or want them to do it normally.

This is an awesome idea. I love it.
i was just copying and pasting what avast showed me, but you’re right, i’ll delete it
I’ve used gw2lfg.com for a long time now. I think it’s one of the best features in this game despite not actually being a feature in the game. But today when i clicked on my Avast notified me that it blocked a malware from the site:

Although, this would be convenient. I don’t feel like I need it just because other classes have a passive speed bonus. I’m not going to ask for a ranger pet because rangers have one. It’s the same to me. Different classes are different. I seen this in other games: homogenization. People complain they don’t have an ability another class has, then complain there is too much homogenization after they get it.
I love to solo roam WvW and all enemy invaders do is run from me. I really have no way to catch them, but I manage. Honestly, it really does make sense to me that mesmers don’t have increased speed. I’m like the Hulk in pvp: destroying everything and everyone in my path, as long as the odds aren’t stacked too high against me of course. The other classes need that speed boost to escape my onslaught.
If I really wanted a passive speed boost like other classes, I would just go play another class that has it.
I know someone was asking to see it in video or it isn’t true for them. But if you wanted to buy me a harddrive and fraps, I would be more than happy to make a montage for you of me only killing thieves. I’ll even let you pick the soundtrack :-)
Frankly, whoever the thief is in that video is killing all low level, glass canon, and very unskilled players.
While you’re right that most thieves running assassin-type quick kill builds pick easy/squishy targets, I think you’re missing the fact that being able to do so is an innate profession attribute thanks to stealth and mobility. It isn’t a coincidence, it is how the game is built.
I agree that it is how the game is built. I think that’s the role of the thief. To be an assassin or rogue type of class. This is the intended playstyle. I like the idea of Thieves having this role. I’m not a thief, but I love that each class a theme and a niche. I’m also a roleplayer so to me it makes sense that Thieves can single out a player in a group, take him out and leave before caught. It makes sense that they have uber mobility and can vanish into the shadows often. That’s the flavor of the class.
And like assassins, you pick and choose your targets carefully. And you pick choose your battles carefully so I like that developers made it possible for them to run away if they need to and hard to catch. I’m a mesmer and I’m slow as hell. I have no speed increasing traits in my build or skill on my bar that makes me faster. I’m a turtle compared to everyone else in pvp. But that makes sense to me to because it’s just the class design.
I love this game and the class design. But again, I saw thieves try to choose targets they can take out very quickly, and most pvp thief montage videos won’t show them fighting targets they couldn’t take out.
You’re saying it has nothing to do with skill, but I have no problem with thieves. I kill 90% or more of the thieves I encounter. And because I’m a solo’er most of my encounters are 1v2, or more…. so many times the thief is an extra in the fight for me to deal with…. I still have no issues killing that thief and whoever else is fighting alongside them.
And in that video Miku posted, the players are dieing in 1 second are glass canon and/or not max level. And the people not dieing in the first second are too busy trying to run to counter. Which I’ve seen a lot; even though I’m not a thief, when I engage people they are so busy trying to get away they literally don’t do anything to counter. Just their back towards me running away while i’m shooting them in the back as they run, until they’re dead. So those people who run away without ever trying to fight will die the same death, no matter which class was attacking them. And a few people in that video that didn’t die in the first second and a half play stupidly. They try go for a heal cast in the middle of the thief burst without realizing that a roll would evade the next hits. They don’t use any defensive CDs, or do much anything to save themselves.
Frankly, whoever the thief is in that video is killing all low level, glass canon, and very unskilled players. You’re probably thinking that he killed a lot of players and no way all of those players are baddies. Truth is, players in WvW are very bad at playing their class. WvW focus isn’t on individual skill and more about having enough numbers to capture a base. So many players in WvW never learn to play their class well. And when they’re forced into a position against a duelist 1v1, they have no idea how to react; they either try to run without countering, or they play stupidly.
Just wanted to add that the thief in that video isn’t going to post the scenes of him losing 1v1s, though I’m sure there are few moments of that since most people in WvW have no individual skill. So all you’re seeing is him roflstomping bad players, which I suppose is the point of the video. Almost all pvp montages shows the person pwning. What would be the point otherwise?
(edited by Hot Boy.7138)
Er… please, no mesmer comments on how easy a thief is
I too can wreck thieves while wearing greens using Moa.
Snacktime – no time for kitten noobs. “User successfully ignored!”
Back to the topic on hand…
If you think the only way to beat a thief is to use Moa morph then you’re playing at a low skill level. I’ve never even purchased Moa morph because I don’t waste skillpoints on unnecessary skills since I’m saving all my skill points for the legendary weapon.
And I don’t run a shatter build, and I don’t beat them by running a phantasm build either. I don’t hide while phantasms kill them and come back to finish them. I actually stand toe to toe with thieves. No, I’m not bunker build either. I found a sweet spot for how much toughness I need to not get one shotted. I don’t stack any vitality because it is a wasted stat for my playstyle. And like I said, I use my defensive skills proactively.
I hate to use this term because it is usually attached to criticism that is not constructive, but Learn to Play. This is really a learn to play issue.
I play a mesmer and I’m a solo’er in WvW. Thieves aren’t as overpowered as the common player will try to make you believe. Yes, they do hit hard and yes, they can stealth often. But that’s the flavor of the class. I beat thieves 9 out of 10 times when I come across them, and I’ve even beaten 2 thieves at once quite a few times.
To beat a thief you have to play defensively at first then go offensive. Truth is that the common player thinks he is a better player than he is. Rather than trying to improve and practice when you can’t beat a class, you assume it’s impossible to beat that class and call for nerfs.
And if you and 5 friends working cooperatively gets slaughtered by 2 thieves, I’m pretty you and your friends aren’t playing at a high skill level. I admit that dual pistol condition thieves give me problems, but it’s not because they’re overpowered; it’s just because my particular build doesn’t have enough tools to remove conditions.
For the record, I spend a lot of time in WvW. I personally have never had a problem facing a thief and dieing because of a culling bug. I’m still not exactly sure what that is. When they stealth, I immediately put my hands on a defensive skill or a roll and am ready to hit it as soon as I get a feeling they’re going to pop out. You have to use your defensive skills proactively against thieves. Don’t wait for them to unload on you and then hit it.
This game seems very easy to play because there are so few skills, when compared to games like WoW. But I’ve found the skill cap to be just as high. Even though the classes are easy to play, they’re a lot harder to master. My suggestion to you is to practice. And you may not like this, but if you want to get better at fighting thieves, keep fighting them. The mists is a great place to duel and practice.
The issues is far more prevalent on some servers then others.
Regardless of what folks may feel I have seen solo’ers of all classes and as a solo’er have died to all classes. Some exceptionally good players out there, regardless of what class they play.
I see the excuse ‘not spec’d for 1v1’ a lot, and while this is a valid statement for some people, the vast majority have no special spec for anything in my opinion, which is likely more of a problem then being spec’d for group play.
The idea if you solo you are some how not helping your team is a mass generalization that has no basis in reality. I run more supply, defend more dolyak’s, take out more enemy siege, defend more back field, cut off more supplies, take more supply camps, provide more intel, get to defense calls faster, clear more walls, etc, etc then 90% of the zerglets all while solo. Just because you prefer small group play, does not mean you are not playing for and with your team. Many roles to be filled, running around in a big ball is just one of them.
The whole ‘got somewhere more important to be’/tactics angle is also valid, but let’s be honest how often? I have had people run away from me taking a supply camp just before point tally. All they had to do was stand in the circle for 20 seconds and they would have kept the points, but instead they ran.
As for the question, I have given it some thought myself and my general feel is lacking in confidence is a much more accurate term then fear. They have no confidence in their class, build, spec and/or gear and as such will not engage. Overall I am fine with that, the wonderful thing about WvW is that it provides play opportunity for all types of players. Some of us are competitive and spend hours and hours fine tuning our builds, gear, learning other classes, etc. Other people just want to roll out for 2 hours of free time and enjoy a good fight. Both are 100% acceptable, I just wish the latter crowd would recognize that their knowledge of the game may be limited before they post their next QQ thread
100% agree with this. You’re absolutely right. I realize now that’s it’s not fear but lack of confidence.
What class you’re playing?
Inb4 it’s because you’re a mesmer.
Yes, i thought so. Doesn’t make it any less true because of the fact that you managed to lose to other classes.
In Spvp I thought I was a god. I won every duel. But as time progressed and people got better with their class I began losing some matches. And each time I lost I would change my build, change weps, change sigils, etc. I would win, until I lost again and begin changing traits all over again. This continued about 40 times until I was able to make the perfect build that suits my playstyle. And I was sure this trait build could defeat anyone… until I eventually lost. And I made a build just to beat that player, I won. But another player I had previously beat had defeated me right after.
I realized at that moment there is no perfect class. There is no perfect build that beats all over classes and builds in the game. There will always be someone with a build and playstyle able to counter your own. It’s better to play the trait build you like the most that suits your playstyle the most. I personally don’t run any cookie cutter builds or builds that are said to be flavor of the month and overpowered because they don’t suit my playstyle.
Being a mesmer doesn’t put me in a better position than anyone else for a 1v1 against a skilled and well geaerd player. The only thing that gives me an advantage is if my build is able to counter his. For example, If I’m running a healing build with heavy condition removals then that seemingly OPed-master-of-conditions necro will lose to me. Then again he could still overcome it if he plays very well and doesn’t make any wasteful moves.
Point is, every class is capable of beating me in a 1v1 if they’re running a build a build that can neutralize mine and if I can’t overcome that disadvantage by outplaying him.
I owe all my greatness to the hundreds of duels I’ve lost to the really good players in the mists. The 40 times they made me change traits to make a better one and to work on my playstyle to learn to overcome players with a trait build advantage over me.
I’m a duelist. And this is what it means to be a duelist. The thrill of the kill is all that matters. Overcoming disadvantages, whether it’s a condition thief or necromancer, or fighting 4 players at once in wvwvw, is a glorious feeling.
(edited to fix typos. It’s late now and I’m making a lot of them)
(edited by Hot Boy.7138)
What class you’re playing?
I’m a mesmer. I run an unorthodox trait build that is made for me to fight several players at once. But I don’t use any signets or mantras that gives me a class buff. With my playstyle I can easily overwhelm to 2 to 3 players at once. I’m a good player. I’m an asset to my realm when I’m there because of my solo skills. I’ve lost some really good, epic 1v1 fights though. Condition build dual pistol thieves give me a hard time. I’ve lost to a couple elementalists who were seemingly indestructible lol. A master of conditions Necromancer who I clearly underestimated because of all the bad necros I’ve fought prior. And I’ve lost to a ranger who humorously shot me off of a cliff while my HP was already in low in an awesome 3 way death match between me, him and someone from the other realm. I could go on and on for each class that beat me. There are so few good players in WvW that the really good ones stand out to me and I don’t forget them.
Inb4 it’s because you’re a mesmer. I have lost to every class. Every class is OPed in the right hands, and any class can feel underpowered in the wrong hands.
I’m not weighing solo kills against team objectives. I’m asking how do you get to the team objective if a single player is in your way? Cause you’re not helping by running back to where you came from and hiding in the base until I leave.
There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind what the intent for WvW is. It’s for zerging bases. If I’m in your way, how do you get there? When you’re running away I’m 100% sure the objective will be completed or have failed and moved on before you have gotten around to it. Do you wait and see if if you can lure me into a pack of NPC guards? Because by then the zerg will have already moved to another objective. Do you wait for around for 5 to 10 minutes for other players to show up and to hopefully defeat me?
I complete small objectives as I said further up like killing yaks, road guards and taking supply camps. Those objectives just happen to be on my way as I wander in circles looking for players to kill. I actually accomplish a lot of those objectives, more than I even realize until I look at how much karma I earned for the day. No one is weighing the objectives against 1v1s.
Evidently, 1v1 is a part of WvW because there will be times when you will run into a player like myself. What do you do?
You bring up a good point Fivekiller. I actually wanted to mention more about that. The people that run from me literally have no idea if I’m good, or bad, or just bought my account, or a child playing, or a bot, or if I’m a total noob and have all crap utilities with each one autocast on my bar. They just see a Sylvari running toward them and run away.
@Rainbowcrow, You can’t help your realm in wvw if you’re running away from the objective or hiding in your base because I’m in your path. Again I ask, how do you catch up to the team or get to the objective if a single enemy player is in your way? They’re not running pass me to the objective, they’re making an about face and running back to where they came from.
(edited to respond to rainbowcrow)
I know there are certain buffs that give you away. I can tell an ele right away by their attunement icon under their health bar, but I don’t have any such buffs that can tell anyone what class I am. I really don’t even think it matters what class the person is. They just run.
(edited by Hot Boy.7138)
Whether Spvp or WvW, I pvp so I can kill players. If everyone is doing what they paid for and having fun doing it, it’s not a waste of time. The basis of WvW is pvp, player vs player. That is the basic form of all pvp. I’m not bashing team style battles. All I’m saying is how do you catch up to the team if an enemy player is in your way?
If hiding is the best thing you can do, then I don’t know what to say. But I already know WvW isn’t about skill and more about who has more numbers. Point is, I’m there to kill and not cap bases. And whatever my objective is, if I was in the mood to cap bases or just farm nodes, I wouldn’t let a single player scare me from doing that.
I run solo on my Ranger, see my video’s in my Sig.
I won’t run from a 1v1, I actually try and at least honor them if I come cross two people fighting (though if you’ve zerged me, I reserve the right to zerg you back).
I try and actually attack larger numbers then myself, My upper limit is 3, If I see more then that I usually try and avoid it. Two people are pretty much attack on sight if I can get on them before they make it near a guard and such.
If I die, oh well, It’s like 1 silver to repair and go back out there….big deal..
I get zerged a crap ton, and people will AJ my fights, even when its me vs 2 or 3 people all the bloody time.
People also run from me all the time..Like it blows my mind how much people run from me..
But i pretty much accept it that this game has a ton of Ex WoW players, so it’s to be expected.
This guy understands me. I’m a solo roamer. People invite me to groups, I decline because I don’t want anyone I killed thinking I only killed them because I had help and couldn’t do it on my own. I only care about the thrill of the kill.
And it totally blows my mind how much people run from me too.
That said, I do complete small objectives like killing the road guards, yaks and taking supply camps by myself. For me that’s just a bonus for karma, but not why I’m really there.
I love to pick off the stragglers of a zerg moving slowly behind the pack. I feel like a ninja taking out the enemy one by one without them realizing. I get a lot of satisfaction fighting 1v2, or 3, and 1v4 is the most I’ve done successfully. I’ve lost every 1v5 encounter. It is extremely satisfying to have an epic 1v1 fight in WvW. I spvp a lot, more than I WvW. Spvp doesn’t give the same excitement.
In my opinion, those who play their class well won’t turn around and run. Those who know they’re not very good players and can’t win a fight against anyone 1v1, will run.
From my experience 99% of the players in WvW are afraid of a 1v1 fight. Okay, so WvW is about zerging, but how do you catch up to the zerg if you can’t get pass one enemy player?
When I’m running through WvW alone, I often see an enemy player coming in my direction. What happens next? Well I keep going and I prepare myself for the kill. The enemy player, without even attempting to fight, as soon as they see me will literally turn around 180 degrees and run in the opposite direction.
Usually they run to a base and hide inside and only pop out to see if I’m gone yet. Or they’ll go to top of the base and use a canon in hopes I leave so they can then leave. And me, with nothing to do late nights, will wait there and they will never leave their base if I’m in front.
And then you have those players who will try to get close enough to their guards in hopes their guards will aggro and kill me. They’ll fight then if NPC guards are attacking with them. Or if another player on their realm comes along they’ll stop running and fight.
Are you one of these players who turns around and run if I’m in your path, or any other solo player? I just want to understand what exactly is going on in your mind at that moment. Help me to understand why most people in WvW are afraid of a 1v1. Hiding in your base for 10 minutes is a lot longer than it would take to run back if you did happen to lose the fight.
I really wouldn’t care if they at least tried to fight before running. If they’re going to die and can get away then that’s understandable, but to not even try… to let me detour you back to your base where you’ll hide for 10 minutes until I’m gone… really makes me wonder if there is something I don’t know. Like some great disaster will come about if you duel another player in WvW in a fair, 1v1 fight.
video is blocked in my country. I live in the U.S.
The only groups I’ve been in who downed Dwayna were those who pounded her through her invisibility. You can’t do that anymore. Since then, the only groups I’ve seen down her are those who were lucky and she bugged behind some rock and made her not attack and not go invisible. It was essentially a free kill. Anyone beating Dwayna encounter legitimately got lucky by having the sparks go in to it’s spots without too much of a delay for her healing to be an issue. And that’s getting lucky, because the sparks rarely do as they’re supposed to.
So if you beat Dwayna, it’s not because your group is any more skilled than any other group, you just got lucky.
Edit: 1/7/2013. Okay, so I take back what I said 19 days ago. I had the opportunity to do this path again and I don’t know if it was patched, but the sparks didn’t give me any problems this time around. None at all. They went in to the areas we kited them to correctly and activated correctly after putting 5 in. My group did need high dps to get through it and it took a while, but this fight is doable. Nothing is wrong with it. Never thought I would say that.

How many people have tried and failed to get tokens out of Arah since the last update?
And how many people still think it isn’t hard enough? Seriously, it’s not good enough to have max gears, and can’t blame it all on player skill or the lack thereof. Was with a group that failed Giaganticus battle. One hit from his AOE’s downs me and i probably won’t be able to get back up. Pretty hard to dodge those red circles he spawns so much of it all at once! Can’t say that we were really doing anything wrong, never even got close to the half-way point, just reset after reset!
Even if you dodge all of the red circles, you can still get hit by his AoE because those projectiles zig zag. It’s not a big issue but it is very annoying to dodge all the red circles and get hit still.
I’m expecting to dual wield pistols on my mesmer tonight
I actually like when my clones explode when the target dies. I feel like Deidara blowing up my creations. Art is an explosion! When I first started playing Mesmer I didn’t like that the clones died when the target died either. I’ve grown to appreciate that’s part of the flavor of the class and I look forward to seeing them explode and getting more clones out for the next mob.
Deceptive Evasion is a great trait. It would be a lot better if the clones produced from it attacked my target instead of what is closest to me at the time. If no target is selected then performing as it does now is acceptable.
The issue is not being able to loot Badges of Honor. You need a considerable amount to buy anything good with it.
I’ve noticed in the last 4 weeks or so, more and more people leaving the map once I have downed them. I don’t know if they’re exiting the game or what, but they entirely leave the map after I have downed them. I can’t finish them so I’m unable to loot and makes it much harder to get Badges of Honor.
They’re not going invisible, or stealth. They’re entirely leaving the map by whatever means. I’m not sure how. A lot of people are doing it.
Arenanet, I would appreciate it if you implemented a system that didn’t allow players to leave a map once downed, or even in pvp combat.
Leaving the map once downed so you can’t be killed is a scrub move.
This please. I need to dual wield pistols on my mesmer or my life will never be complete.
I too can wreck thieves while wearing greens using Moa.
