The happens to me all the time. I prefer it this way. Isn’t it better for us that our phantasms look like regular clones? I hope it remains this way.
I’m still having the issue of not having an aura.
The issue is the wave still being in your hitbox, it’s like sprinting away from a warrior greatsword 3 so you take more of the pulses of hits.
I’m convinced that the Hammer only hits once and me going down from block is just a bug. I did the fight a few more times since I posted about it and my block hasn’t failed once, that’s why I haven’t posted another video cause they all seem to show me blocking without fail. If it happens again and I record it, I"m gonna just repost this issue in the bug forums.
Or just do the achievements and get the better looking wings? That way you don’t grind and get to enjoy ALL of the fun from the festival!
I can’t find any pics or vids of the better wings. Do you have a link for it? Cause I just bought the regular ones without reading the entire thread.
His hammer attack is actually two attacks. Shield Stance for example works well, Guardian Focus 5 too, Aegis… not at all.
Illusionary Riposte only blocks one attack. In this 20 sec vid you can see that the hammer attack only hits once. But then again, sometimes, for no reason, my block fails and I go down. later tonight I’ll try to get more recordings of it failing in slow motion.
My spvp character is dressed exactly the same as my pve/wvw one except it isn’t carrying a legendary…i don’t see a problem.
Maybe you should actually try spvp one day. Takes 1 day to get a nice suit.“Hello everyone, I am here to post in hopes of self gratification. I myself, me, no one else, not the majority am dressed EXACTLY how I am in pvp. I don’t see a problem at all. After all, if i’m doing fine for myself, everyone should follow my lead and no one else matters. Hopefully in posting, I have brought attention to myself so that people believe I am very good at sPvP.”
I had been an avid spvper for awhile and I do have some nice things unlocked, some of which aren’t even avaliable on the pve side of things, and also have Eternity but seriously. Not everyone enjoys spvp but everyone CAN enjoy an event like this, so what is the problem with them looking pretty/festive/cool as they want to? I am so tired of the “You should try this, its not hard, it only takes (insert completely incorrect timeframe to finish).” talking down onto players. To top it off you have to mention a Legendary. Juvenile and annoying much? Your post has no relevance to the topic at hand other than crying for attention. Run along and consider yourself spanked. Please.
I think its a great idea. I dont think the devs thought about it really. Probably the arena gametype automatically equips us in such gear equal to what we have in sPvP so most of it was probably automatic. Maybe for future events they can take a look at changing the structure so that others can look cool
You should have an eternity, it takes seriously like 1 month to get and that’s all. Derrrr
lol this made my day
rangers are immortal underwater.
@Lordrosicky
maybe u should play a other game in pvp instead of gw2…
there are enough games without dodges.for me it looks like u whant to be a brainless burst class,
just immobilize and then burst ppls to death…
and nobody can do anything.
that whould be easy enough for u, to kill anyone in pvp toothis is just another brainstorm topic,
i love the dodge mechanic.
ppls who dodge well have skill and dont spam.
its your problem if it feels unfair to you when ppls dodge your
attack button spam…
sometimes its better to know the enemy skills.
the way to know this skills is play the game and if its not fun for you, because this skills, then look for an other pvp game.
That’s harsh dude. But I gotta agree with this. Most people who come to the forums come to complain. Very rarely do I see people making threads about something that was done well in this game. The combat in this game is the sole reason I never stopped playing. I love the complexity of the combat in this game. I said this before in another thread a while back, but I really think it’s genius. And genius is often lost on a lot of people. The combat in this game is the best I’ve played in any mmo. Because it seems so simple and easy to grasp because you only have 10 skills on your action bar at any given time, unlike in WoW where you’ll have 40 to 50 macros for every skills on your action bar. But it’s still takes a lot of practice to master it. Arenanet hit the needle on the head because it’s easy to play, but difficult the master the way every game should be. At least that’s how every game should be in my opinion. It’s not perfect, but it’s close to it and a lot of fun.
TLDR: Evades, blocks, invulnerablities, vigor, etc all add to the complexity of the combat. Without that complexity, it would be boring.
The hammer swing creates a type of shockwave that travels to you. If you block it but the next instant the shockwave is still in your hitbox then you still get hit. Similar to the abomination charge attack. If you have stability of block, it will keep hitting you until it leaves your hit box. Those attack do have some sort of interval between damage dealt hence when sometimes your block works.
Thanks, i’ll have to check my combat log next time I do it. I was almost certain that the attack only hit once, instead of a series of shockwaves, because my block never failed before until recently. I’ll look for a group then test it.
you will only see it once in your combat log. Lets say you expect him to hit you with your block up, it will be: 1-blocks (doesn’t show in log), 2-hit (log shows you take 30~50k damage), 3- if shockwave still in your hitbox it will keep hitting, but since you get a brief period of invulnerability as you get downed, the log won’t show anything.
Other things I’ve noticed to support this theory is: guardian focus 5 always worked so far, sometime 2 blocks are shown; if I stand inside his circle but closer to the back then a single aegis is enough to block the hammer smash
I just did the fight and my block didn’t fail once. I blocked every hammer slam successfully. I’ll upload and post the vid so you can see.

He put you out of your misery because of your group comp.
I’m not someone who needs to be carried by any particular group composition. I play well enough that I can finish any dungeon with any random mix of classes. And even in the case of this group and countless others I’ve been in just like this, any unmix of classes is just fine for me also; whether they be all heavies, mediums, or light armored classes.
I like evades on skills. and I love the animations of it on both thieves and rangers. I like the idea of building a character to be very agile. You can have characters that are tanks, I don’t see any thing wrong with have characters that are agile.
Perhaps another option would be, then, to simply have the ability refill endurance rather than just “evade” outright (as well as shed immob). But, that doesn’t fix the issue of how soft the “evade in combat” classes are and how easily they’d be destroyed by immob-spike. Guardians and warriors do not have this because they have plate/boons/health at a constant, Rangers/Thieves have paper.
I think the skills are fine just as they are. I don’t find it frustrating at all to fight sword thieves, rangers or mesmers. i actually think sword thieves are probably the easiest of all thieves to kill. Then again, I’m not someone who call for nerfs for any class or skill in a game. I sorta just go with the flow. If I like the balance, I keep playing. If I dont like the balance, I just don’t play.

I used to be able to block his hammer swings without fail with Illusionary Riposted, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Illusionary_Riposte , but for some reason it fails 50% of the time now. I would say this started happening in April. I wanted to get some feedback from the community as to your thoughts on why my block is failing. Maybe it’s a bug, maybe it’s not.
Here’s a 1 minute video I recorded showing exactly what the problem is. Also, this problem is relatively new because I never had an issue blocking his attacks before.
Also, just wanted to add that my block is not being taken by a hit from any other mobs. The only thing being fought at the time of this happening is the Crusher.

Well thanks to everyone that answered my question, I’ll problably run with S/P and GS for that moment when range is useful or S/F. Still my main weapon will be Sword
If you wnat to answer this one is fine but, for the looks, what do you think is better. Human, Sylvari or Asura?
Oh and am I crazy if I delete on of my lvl 80 characters? I’m tired of them and because of them I almost leaved the game, and I want to use the name of one of my lvl 80 (I have 2) on my Mesmer
Sylvari all the way. They glow at night. Nothing beats that.
If you’re generalizing, you may as well consider the fact that a percentage of WvWers are even upscaled players. =p
I’m referring to 80s in WvW. I don’t ever count upscaled players cause it’s not fair to include them in my opinion. I only solo roam in WvW, and I’m sure other solo roamers could probably attest to this too, but most WvWers, specifically zerglings, are scrubs at playing their class and are an easy kill any time they’re caught outside of their zerg. And I’m totally baffled by all the people saying they would kitten the people that mostly do structured pvp. This is the skill order in this game. Spvpers > PvEers > NPCs > WvWers (zerglings). Again, this is only my opinion that is based on my experience as being a solo roamer for the last 7 months.
From my experience, WvWers are the bottom of the bottom in terms of mastering their class and playing skillfully. Having individual skill plays such a little role for most WvWers. Most of you run at the mere sight of a single enemy player without even engaging them.
So I wholeheartedly believe if the best Spvpers decided to form a guild and only WvW, most WvWers will be on these forums complaining about dieing to Spvpers and they should go back to Spvp.
For me it’s not really about the skills as it is about how cool my character looks. The main reason I use dual swords is because to me it looks awesome. I just love swords. I also love greatswords, but our greatsword isn’t a melee weapon and I can’t dual wield them. It’s important to me to have that look of a sword in each hand. So no matter what the skills were on swords, I would still dual wield them. And that’s why I always use a sword in the main hand. So even if the sword skills were terrible, I would use swords just because I like the way it looks.
I wanted to add that I actually like the torch skills, but torches look stupid. If only only I could use sword/sword and sword/sword and have the off hand sword in only one of those sets have the torch skills.
(edited by Hot Boy.7138)
dual swords all the way! I use dual swords for everything.
S/S + S/S FTW! WEAPON SWAP? THAT’S JUST FOR SWITCHING FROM RUNES OF FIRE/WATER TO RUNES OF AIR/EARTH!
I use sword/sword and sword/pistol. The pistol is nice for ranged pulls. But that’s it. I never use greatsword, staff, sceptor or torch. I switch the pistol to focus when I’m running long distances and if I need iWarden to protect me from projectiles on very specific fights, such as the Dual Pistol boss in arah path 2.

The name is The Black Reaper. It’s from a show called Darker Than Black.
Thanks ShadyNZL. That settles it. I really appreciate all the responses and I’m sure this info will help other people wondering the same thing.
The name will be available to OTHER people 24 hours after you delete the character.
As long as you claim the deleted name within 24 hours, it will still be yours. Wait more than 24 hours and someone else can claim it. I have deleted characters myself and been able to claim the same name on different characters within a 24-hour period.
Thank you very much for this. Are you sure it will work with the name change charter? because i’m not creating a new character with that name. I will be giving that name to an already existing character using the name change charter.
I will tell you after I change it! The world will be jealous. Lets just hope that the name change contract recognizes the name of the deleted character as being available within 24 hours. But I’m still unsure because….
1. The wiki says I’ll be able to use the name if I act within 24 hours.
2. Gaile Gray, ArenaNet Support Liaison, said the name will be available 24 hours after I delete the character.
So I don’t know what to do still …
Thanks, but the name I have is super special. Is there any way to guarantee that I will get the name after I delete the character? I mean super duper special name everyone would want to have.
According to the in-game description, I think you will be able to use the name if you act within 24 hours. =)
“Change your character name to another available name. You can reclaim the abandoned name for a different character within 24 hours of the change.”
— In-game description
Woot woot! thanks, just what I wanted to hear!
Thanks, but the name I have is super special. Is there any way to guarantee that I will get the name after I delete the character? I mean super duper special name everyone would want to have.
I want to change my main character’s name to the name of another character I have. I could delete the character whose name I want to use, then buy a name change for the character I want that name on. My question is would the name of the character that I delete be immediately available for use?
The damage isn’t really important. The point I was trying to make is that I don’t understand why most of them are so easily kited. Why don’t they switch to a ranged wep when they’re being kited? It just seems like a lot of them have the attitude that they should only melee, and more specifically, use only greatsword.
Greatsword just happens to be the most solid and versatile weapon a Warrior has at the moment. The auto-attack does decent enough damage(less than axe auto but still), hundred blades is very nice res denial and synergies well with two warrior traits that give might and vulnerability on crits(100b is 8 rapid attacks and while it is only marginally better than axe auto spam it is good in some situations), whirlwind attack is the only evade that a warrior has access to while also being a very good damaging AoE attack that also functions as a mobility skill(this is the best skill in the greatsword even though uninformed players cry about 100b), bladetrail is a solid cripple that also functions as a potentially devastating AoE damage ability if the opponents are stupid enough to not dodge the boomerang effect, and Rush is one of two very amazing mobility skills the Warrior has access(the other being Sword #2 – Leap) to even though it is buggy and the damage dealing part of the skill rarely lands.
If a Warrior is playing without greatsword he is severely gimping himself in either mobility, survivability, or damage. The other Warrior weapons seem to all have a few mediocre skills that seemingly do nothing. Axe skill #2 for example is a tiny double hit that does the same damage as an auto attack and applies a pathetic 4 stacks of vulnerability. This ability is borderline useless and is just used on cooldown to get the incredibly minor vulnerability since you might as well use it. Sword is a condition damage and direct damage hybrid weapon that ends up being terrible at both because it doesn’t apply conditions well enough for full condition builds and doesn’t deal enough direct damage to warrant using it over other DD options. The Rifle suffers from the same issue as the sword but gets some use anyways because the only other ranged option(longbow) is also a hybrid physical and condition damage weapon. The hammer is borderline unusable because only someone that has never fought a hammer warrior will ever get hit by the majority of the abilities as they are all incredibly slow and incredibly obvious attacks with long cooldowns.
The reason most Warriors use Axe/Shield as a secondary set is that Axe offers good sustained damage from auto-attack, has a ranged cripple(not a great one but still), and has one of the better F1 abilities. More importantly the shield is incredibly necessary in many situations because the stun allows a Warrior to deal some damage before being kited further and the shield block allows a Warrior to have some much needed defence(Warriors have some of the least active defence options of any class. See Blurred Frenzy, Flanking Strike, etc.)
ahh okay. that clears a lot of things up for me. thanks.
I think they should nerf the damage of a warrior if they give him new stuff.
at the moment if you do not watch your back you are dead if a warrior hits you. If they are not kiteable you will die every time to them.
I agree. And I also wanted to add that I don’t understand why most of them are so easily kited. I fought a warrior the other day who was having a hard time staying on me to do damage. This warrior actually had enough common sense to switch to his rifle and killshot me for 14.5k damage. I only have 15k hp. With that said. I’m not entirely sure yet that warriors are actually bad, or are most players that pick warriors bad. Because 90% of the warriors I fight all seem to use the same build, same utilities, same weapon (greatsword), and all try the same predictable combo on me.
So far, my opinion is that most players that choose to play a warrior in a fantasy game lack some creativity , and it shows in combat when they play very predictably. The again, I’ve never played a warrior before so it might possibly be true the only correct way to play one is to use that greatsword, predictable combos, and hope for the best.
Kill shot is probably the most obvious animation in the entire game; once you learn it and its approximate cast time you should be able to dodge it 90% of the time barring they chain it with something that you should have dodged anyways.
The problem with warriors is that their standard combo’s become ABSURDLY less effective against highly skilled players. When you dodge bulls charge, shield bash and eviscerate for the fifth time in a match you’ve successfully made another warrior reroll. Same goes for arcing arrrow, bolas, kill shot, tremor etc etc. Obvious animations with big effects, long cooldowns and huge opportunity costs.
That said, their combo lands often enough for them to be effective in practice. Nobody is perfect and a well played warrior will almost always force a stun break. The true problem ATM seems to be that warriors distinctly lack the kind of survivability that every single viable melee class/spec has.
Once they give warriors more options for survivability its hard not seeing them become an amazing class. It just depends on what those options are and how strong they are. The situation is incredibly tricky and is probably the only time where I’d ever condone arena-net’s approach of slow n steady. Recently they’ve been too slow, but a few tweaks to some traits, utilities, weapons and heals might make them incredible

I want an elite phantasm that resses people and puts up feedback during the ress
I actually like having the armor I want already and never having to worry about it again.
I support the idea of making dungeons available for solo players. Currently, most dungeons can be soloed, but since they’re recommended for a group of 5 players, it takes forever to kill bosses unless you’re a zerker warrior. I’m a zerker mesmer and the amount of time it takes to kill a boss is unbearably long that it’s just not worth the trouble to solo current dungeons; unless you’re just doing it for prestige. Anyways, I support this idea because all it is more options and it’s not taking anything away from other dungeons and players.
I’m far from an expert on condition damage and especially staff, but I remember seeing a post last month about condition duration bonuses now also affect clones. Someone in the post mentioned that condition duration is better than having more condition damage. You should go to hearts of the mists and try out your build for free on those 2 big mobs before making any big changes in pve that might cost you a lot of gold. But I think it’s a good idea to stack condition duration instead of damage. But then again, with longer durations you’ll be able to increase the amount of stacks of bleeds you put on a target, which may not receive full effect because others will also be putting bleeds up. And it caps at 25. Either way, you can’t go wrong have many different armor sets, so make one for every build you’re interested in.
Notice that most of the suggestions are to not use Barrage or any other high-hit-number channeling skill. That’s a problem with the game design, not the player.
It’s not a problem with game design. Retaliation is working as intended. If you don’t want to nuke yourself, then attack slower, don’t attack at all, or strip boons. I like retaliation and it’s function. I don’t want to see it changed. I personally don’t run a build that gives me retaliation, but I also never felt like I lost a fight because someone had retaliation up. If I ever died and the person that beat me just happened to have retaliation up during the fight, it just means the same thing if the player didn’t have retaliation up; I was outplayed. Retaliation adds more depth to combat and I appreciate that level of complexity.
I strip retaliation along with every other boon on the target as often as I can.
I really wish I could see people’s names in WvW so I can tag them to my vids so they at least know they’re on youtube.
As a solo roamer, I actually don’t mind when people lay there dead for a while. Actually, it’s good bait because people from their realm will see the dead icon on their minimap and come to ress them; and I can get more kills. So for me corpses = bait.
My character needs some town clothes. This is what I would like to see her in. I’d love to buy gems, but the current town clothes available doesn’t look good to me.
A double split long dress is what I would most like to see her in, but I’ll include two other dresses I think would also be nice.
I’ve duo-ed with a thief friend of mine. It didn’t work too well though because we had literally no coordination. I could never predict when he would stealth us and vice versa. Often times we would just run in different directions because we noticed different targets in different areas, or going different areas.
I do have a very good friend who was my partner in wow for arena who I’m sure I could have a good duo with. He’s making a staff mesmer and I think it’ll compliment my melee mesmer very well. That is if his staff bounces go to me instead of his clones.
This topic is about bolt, not the kitten harp or blob stick. But yeah, I think the teleport lightning effect would be awesome. Thief +bolt would be amazing with lightning port. Might have to make a Sylvari with mushroom cap and name him Raiden though.
That’s an awesome idea! You better hurry and save that name before it’s taken (if it’s not already).
Some of my most recent vids from the last week or so.
I found a zergling nest.
OP is right. WvW is ridiculous most of the time. I still try to have fun though doing things as a solo roamer. But I do believe the design of WvW encourages the formation of zergs to win over everything with numbers instead of skilled gameplay. I managed to get a video last night that sums up my feelings toward WvW.
(you need to watch in full screen to fully appreciate it)

When I set my status to invisible I still get whispered by people who have me on their friend’s list. They see me as being online.
(this isn’t a thread to state that my legendary has enough effects and yours needs more effects. Just my thoughts on how to make Bolt more legendary than it already is.)
I ask everyone to look up and read those last two sentences of my original post and to respect the topic of this thread. I understand how you feel but this isn’t a thread about The Minstrel and Meterogolicus being lackluster. You can make your own thread talking about it. As a matter of fact, there are already countless threads about that. This thread is about how to make Bolt more awesome than it already is. No need to act like children and whine on every single thread that is even remotely discussing a legendary and its effects.
ANET doesn’t create builds, you do. Go play with traits and who knows what you might come up with. That’s how every single build prior has been created. Stop waiting for someone else to tell you how to play your class…
Say this again please, but say it louder so everyone hears.
A friend and I was joking around about my Legendary Bolt. He threw out a joke saying that when I use waypoint it should look like a lightning bolt striking the ground from the sky. Even though it was a joke, it’s an awesome idea.
To add to that idea, I think it would be great if my mesmer had sword #3 skill, illusionary leap, affected. When using swap from illusionary leap it should also look like a lightning bolt striking the ground from the sky. Same for blink!
Also, it would be better if the aura was everlasting while the sword is equipped. Meaning that the aura should always appear whether the sword is stowed or out. I can’t speak for everyone, but I would prefer if it the aura never dissipated. With myself included, I know of a number of people that use a bug to keep the aura going while the sword is stowed. Maybe most legendary wielders would prefer to have their weapon’s aura appear all the time while it is equipped. You can ask the community how they feel about it but I think most would like it.
(this isn’t a thread to state that my legendary has enough effects and yours needs more effects. Just my thoughts on how to make Bolt more legendary than it already is.)
I know a lot of people use exploits in dungeons to make them ‘easier’ and quicker, but this is almost never true. Most of the time, the party wipes more frequently because if any one screws it up it fails. My best examples for this are the side stepping the mobs to lupi on all paths, and AC p3.
What most people do in Arah, is hug that left wall as to not aggro any enemies, but even with the most seasoned Arah veterans some one aggros a single enemy. Now one enemy shouldn’t wipe the party right? Well it does, because to kill it, it aggros more and more and at best one enemy dies. I found that clearing the area of enemies takes about 3 min, I know that cause Lich Form was on recharge. You may be thinking “but if it’s done perfectly it only takes 1min to make it” yeah, maybe but wiping on lupi means you have to do it again, where as murdering them all means it takes the 10s to walk to lupi.
Remember Collosus Rumblus before the patch? Yeah he wasn’t too bad was he? Have you tried killing him after the patch with out climbing on that wall thing? He’s still easy, just different. What you may do, or know some one that does, is they stack on the wall and beat him down from a distance. That makes him easier, yes, but for the glitch to work you have to not aggro him, all hide in the corner at the same location and have one person bring him over, have that person climb back on the wall with out dying, other wise you have to start all over again. I can do it properly in 2min. He’s got no hp. It seems like he does when you can only attack from a range, but he doesn’t. I’ve had parties quit at this part because they can’t glitch it right, and refuse to do it normally. Mull that one over.
I completely agree with everything you said. I just wanted to add that when I start my own dungeon groups I don’t let anyone use any exploits or glitches. And if I join other groups, if they glitch or w/e for shortcuts I still run thru normally and usually get there before them (ex end of arah path 2 that boat exploit that is now patched). I like to let people play the way they want, but it bothers me when people only want to play with experienced players, but then choose to exploit every thing possible. Why do you need experienced players if you’re gonna cheat? I would think people would want experienced players for legit runs only.
Also, instead of asking people to ping their gear or link their tokens, and whatever nonsense people ask for you to stay in the group, I just ask them to do the bosses legit. That’s a bigger test of skill in my opinion. And it really is faster to do bosses legit. Asking melee heavy groups to stand in one spot and range when they do less damage just so the boss doesn’t attack is lame and takes longer.
And I also had the same issue with AC path 3 last boss. Actually, not even just that boss. Almost every boss that’s exploitable when I ask people to do normally, most of them still try exploit because it’s the only way they have ever done the fight. They never did it legit so they think that’s the normal way to do it. So when it doesn’t work they want to leave the group. Or when I ask them to kill a patrol that takes 45 seconds so we can all run safely, they rather try to skip and wait 7 to 10 minutes for everyone to finally make it there with broken gear from dieing so much beacuse it’s the only way they have ever seen it done.
If you have a sigil that has a cooldown, such as sigil of air, when the effect activates, the cooldown prevents any other non passive sigil from activating for the duration.
If you have same sigils, two sigils of air, instead of 60% chance of activation on crit for each wep or 120/100% combined, the chance is seperate for each one.
E.G. 1# you have two weps both with sigil of air, you get crit, 60% for first weapon sigil fails, second one passes, sigil activates and both are put on 5 sec cooldown.
2&3# Sigil of energy and air, you switch weapons, activating sigil o energy, you gain 50% endurance and both sigils are put on sigil of energys 9 sec cooldown.
Air activates, putting both on airs 5 sec cooldown4# Sigil of force and sigil of air, Air activates, is put on cooldown, but you will still benifit the 5% dmg increase even through cooldown.
tl;dr. Any sigil that has an activation will not activate while a cooldown is still up, but any passive effect will stay working, and any sigil on mainhand will trigger before offhand if both are activates.
I was just googling this. Thanks for the info, saved me a lot of time having to look elsewhere because I was thinking of using sigil of energy and air together.
