Atm i wouldn’t play any mesmer (and guardian, for the matter) roaming build without either these or speed runes. Mobility is somewhat required in WvW.

Heck, i would probably use them on any class except engi and warrior to open the 3rd utility spot.

Torch is actually a pretty useful weapon when traited for condition removal as it allows for different utility skills / runes. I often catch myself casting iMage at an obstructed target since it will cleanse even if the cast fails.

That about shows how useful the phantasm is without the trait… ^^

Your suggested change would heavily diminish build diversity across the whole class as it would virtually be impossible to play shatter or clone death builds in their current form.

It doesn’t help much with shatter doing a lot of damage if it can only be done every once in a while. Shatter builds are already highly predictable, we don’t need them to be even more gimmicky.

Clone generation currently is pretty good (saying so as a Sword/Torch + GS mesmer who tends to use his F1 and F2 more or less on cd) and does certainly not need to be improved. DE is a good trait, but only used for shatter and clone death builds and doesn’t need too much of an investment.

The IC buff should be enough to allow strong phantasm builds (maybe too strong in 1v1 but overall not as effective in larger scale fights) to exists beside the established shatter and clone death/PU builds. Shatter might need a slight buff or – preferable – blurred frenzy getting reverted to invulnerability but overall we are ok.

/edit: If everything i’d say we need a way to fight more effectively while not using stealth so we can finally capture/defend points on our own. For this we would need viable alternatives to decoy and mass invis (replace moa already…).

Warriors have lots of passives (Heal, Condiremove, lots of damags buffs) and low cds, making it easier to spam powerful moves like Whirlwind and Earthshaker. Combined with having the highest hp, armor and mobility (when using GS) in the game, there is generally a lot more time while fighting compared to a class that has to rely on active skills for defending (ele, mesmer, …)

- got nerfed hard and needs either staff (again, condi, or low damage unless the opponent lets himself get hit by the warlock) or Null Field which leaves no free utility slot, so…no stunbreaks, which means you are dead in the current warrior meta.

- please…this coming from a warrior sounds like a joke considering that i need preparation and near perfect execution to get a Sword 3 -> 2 + shatter combo off (which is very easy to avoid) just to do the damage a warrior does with his earthshaker + 1-2 autoattacks.

Bunker condi mesmers

- please read my posts. Condi mesmers are good, maybe even too good at the moment, but power mesmers are certainly not.

Not to mention they are horrible to try and stomp thus further reducing the desire to hard focus them at the start of WvW fights.

- Actually this isn’t true. In 1vX, unless there is a ranger or maybe necro, i always target mesmers and thieves first. We have no stability (please…don’t mention the useless mantra), at most 1 condicleanse and are squishy as hell if we want to do any damage (again, i’m talking about power builds). Also, even with traveler runes, we got basically no swiftness so there is no way we will ever be able to run from or after a warrior unless we have portal ready.

You have survivability just based on the fact that you have so many tools available that makes you a much harder target to focus than say, a necro.

- I won’t argue with you about necros being easy to focus but they are still hard to take down considering their high hp, deathshroud, chill and fear. Mesmers defense is purely active compared to, say, a guardian or warrior which don’t have to basically avoid every single skill against a zerker warrior or die horribly.

Stopped reading there. You should probably get better if you think mesmers are underpowered in WvW.

That might have been true once, but apart from condimesmers roaming, we ARE pretty much underpowered right now.

The mesmer class ability gets hardcountered by AoE which is…well, everywhere in WvW. We also get countered by conditions which are the current meta and keep getting buffed.

We are slow as hell unless we are using traveler runes, other speed runes or a focus.

Our direct damage, apart from F1, is really low compared to other classes. At 3.2k attack and 90% critdmg my sword autoattack crits for about 1.2-1.3k. Compared to warrior gs (2k+) and hammer (4k+) that’s REALLY low considering how dangerous it’s for us to go into melee compared to a heavy armor class.

Now whenever i try to use #4 or #5 my char is using #2 or #3 which basically makes the game unplayable for me.

While being great when traited, the iMage for itself is quite bad. I’m using torch in a power build right now, mainly for the condi remove and decent cd stealth (the blast on reveal does pretty good damage, too) but i rarely use iMage against non-condi builds.

Regarding Defy Pain being useless against conditions: I think we agree, that condi builds are a tad too powerful right now. On the other side, it is very (and i mean VERY) hard to kill a warrior with direct damage right now so i think it’s good to have this sort of weakness.

Perplexity are pretty op right now, for a good reason. Fought a warrior some hours ago and got as high as 12 stacks of confusion with a single interrupt (warriors get an additional 4 stacks via trait + the random 3 stack proc).

Depends. Warriors got a lot of sustain in lower placed traits and are therefore more open in terms of build diversity. Mesmer builds, for example, are quite fixed. A shatter basically needs to be 0/20/0/0/30, a condi needs that 30 in Chaos for PU etc.

PU is also very much the only sustain trait that is regularly taken by mesmers, the rest need to be -CD traits because of generally high cds (most likely a leftover from when IC was easier to achieve)

Apart from that, there already seem to be some grandmaster traits that are doing what you want to:

- Defy Pain: Granted, this only triggers every 60s, but you can’t deny that it’s quite powerful and often saves lifes when getting ambushed by someone.

- Inspiring Battle Standard: I once fought a condition warrior beneath his banner on my condi thief. I won, but the fight took forever and would be impossible to win without poison. That said, i could have leave the fight anytime if i wanted, since he didn’t seem to leave the healing area ^^

- Vigorous Shouts: Healing is obiously some kind of sustain ^^ That said, warrior shouts for themselves don’t do much in terms of sustain (that’s guardian terrain), so you most likely will prefer stances and signets, then.

I generally don’t see warriors getting protection since it’s more of a help for classes with lower armor/hp. I could imagine some defensive counterpart for Berserker’s Power, mitigating 3/6/9% damage, depending on the amount of adrenaline built, but i wouldn’t really want to see this while retaining warrior’s superior mobility.

It should replace Adrenal Health, then, and altered to roughly heal the same amount of hp/s. This would encourage warriors to spent their adrenaline instead of saving it.

I agree with F4, but dodging doesn’t help you when you are fighting 1vX and need the stomp NOW and not 3-4s later.

/edit: Regarding 1vx or other outmanned fights: They should remove the option to hardress when in combat. That’s one of the main reasons for numbers > skill.

Phase Retreat is usually easier to do, but requires a staff, our only “real” movement skill (Portal works, but only if you had it placed somewhere and it didn’t time out already) and keeps you in sight and range of whoever might be around the person you want to stomp.

You still have to press F twice. The tricky part is that taking a portal has priority over stomping someone so as soon as the portal becomes usable you won’t be able to start the stomp while standing on it. This is why you have to make sure it becomes available shortly after the stomp started (or at the same time, but i’m still not able to do this regularly).

/edit: It takes some time to get the timing with opening a portal and taking it. I think it’s good training when running from a zerg, having a portal somewhere hidden (i prefer shallow water because the portal is very hard to see there). While running, place the second portal, move out of it, turn around and move on it again. If done right, you will be there just in time to take it and even have the momentum to move in the zerg’s opposite direction.

Well, the theory at least is simple.
1) Place portal Entre some distance away from the downed opponent.
2) Initiate the stomping (get close, press F, you know the drill).
3) Place portal Exeunt while stomping animation is underway.
4) Press F immediately to use this portal.
5) Just before the stomping animation end, reuse the portal to get back to the downed opponent.
Et voilà, you just portal-stomped

If you can’t make it to work, what exactly do pose a problem?

Not quite right. You have to place the 2nd portal about 0.5-1s before starting the stomp to be able to start the stomp and take the portal at the same time. Otherwise, and you won’t get to use it again in time.

Perfectly executed, you will take the portal and visible start the stomping animation on the other side and take the port back the moment before your char hits the ground.

/edit: A tip: Ranger downed #2 does not need LoS and seems to have infinite range so you can still be interrupted during a portal stomp.

Yes…on 45 and 60s cd untraited…fyi: Not a single warrior weapon skill goes over 30s cd. Most guardians would kill for shield stance on their shield (or any other weapon).

Confusion is pretty much the Mesmer’s only condition that they can apply themselves outside of sigils. Other conditions rely on clones, either critting or hitting or dying.

That’s how mesmers work. If you aren’t counting on your illusions maybe you are playing the wrong class.

Besides, it’s true that mesmers aren’t as versatile when it comes to conditons as other classes but there are still some options:
- confusion via various shatters, scepter #3, torch #5, chaos armor, etc.
- bleeding via clones, staff #1.
- burning via staff #1.
- vulnerability via staff #1 (yeah…we all love it, right?).
- cripple via clone death, chaos storm, (iZerker).
- and, while you said excluding sigils, i’s suggest every condimesmer to put sigil of doom on both sets. Heck, depending on the opponent i’d even use it on a shatter set to counter healing.

Taking that ability off the runes and then sticking them on a trait…with a 30s cooldown, would be anotherkittento the Mesmer class.

Actually no. About every other class can make better use out of these runes (even more so, since our condition removal is still subpar) and my suggested change would give confusion back to the confusion class while still having a useful runeset for us.

There are two sides of this:

- For once, it’s odd that Dragon’s Tooth (and possible other skills? I only know of ranger downed #2) isn’t affected by LoS while everything else is (and mesmers iZerker got adjusted properly).

- On the other side, it gives another option to clear siege to the attacking fraction, I don’t usually siege but i think the patch that made trebuchets/catapults unblockable gave defenders an edge over the attackers, so i’m fine with this.

apply confusion on interrupt with a 30 second ICD? how about no and how about most useless trait ever o.O

You seem to forgot that it’s 20s duration with all the +condi/confusion duration easily accessible by mesmers. 5 stacks of confusion are freakishly powerful and shouldn’t be as easily to maintain permanent as they are currently.

Also, necros are investing 30 points into a traitline “just” to get 4s (2s in sPvP) of burning every 10s and we all know how powerful it is.

It about averages what other classes get in passive condition removal.

“Other classes” don’t get -33% cripple/chill/immob duration, 2 stability skills (+ elite), a maximum of 3 cleanses every 5 sec via Cleansing Ire (yeah, blind yadda yadda) and/or virtual immunity against immobilize via movement skills.

Warriors heal less then rangers do

Yeah, sure…apart from being not true, rangers also got less hp and armor than warriors.

Please stop your QQs and learn to use stun breaks.

What do stunbreaks have to do with condition immunity and superior ability? Whatever…try comparing your stun cds to the stunbreak cds of…well, every class. And remember: Not everyone is able to spam stability like warriors can.

/edit: But in all honesty: Warriors really don’t need more healing and cleansing. Other classes survive with a lot less of both and doing fine, so can you (and no, you don’t need stealth/blinks when you can pop in and out of combat like eles used to while 15s+ bleeds keep your enemy infight).

The trick with cleansing ire is to use LB and/or hammer bursts, which aren’t cancelled by blind or dodge. You should still know Nil, former Amok player. One of his warriors is hammer/lb afaik and doing very well.

There is a small gap between running away and kiting. For me, as soon as you are out of combat because you increased the distance, the fight is lost. As long as you stay in combat, circling around the opponent and waiting for cds or hp-reg, you are kiting.

/edit: Try playing a shatter mesmer against a perma-retal tank guardian or condi-warrior and you know what i’m talking about ^^

The thing you are whining about are Perplexity Runes, not mesmers or engis which both are balanced if not underpowered atm.

And no, i don’t main a warrior and i’m too lazy to level/craft one especially when looking at ArenaNets anti-twink-attitude. But you can ask each and every warrior player out of BNF and they will tell you that currently there is basically no way a warrior will die if he doesn’t want to.

They don’t have protection, perma vigor, perma regeneration, perma stealth or kittentons of teleports.

They have the highest armor, hp, damage, mobility, healing and amount of cc. Please learn your class.

/edit: I forgot to add the amount of cleansing available via Cleansing Ire alone.

Some people might tell you otherwise, but i would focus down the phantasms (with the exception of iWarden, iWarlock and iMage) as soon as possible. The mesmer alone usually isn’t much of a threat and highly predictable.

Keep distance from necro and send out 2 phantasms from 1200 and watch him die as he chases you. Same thing works on condi engis.

Depends…if the necro manages to hit you with a medium-long duration chill, Dark Path or Spectral Grasp, you are in trouble most of the time. Apart from that, necros are quite doable UNLESS they manage to hit you with Signet of Spite which is too much for a mesmer to handle properly.

/edit: Generally spoken, the mesmer class highly profits from obstacles, opportunities to LoS and different height levels. The more even and plain the area, the harder it’s for the mesmer.

A full shatter hits 4 times, that’s still something ^^ I’m playing my mesmer for about half a year now and i know for a fact that my build (gs + sword/torch shatter) gets hardcountered by retal.

/edit: While mesmers might be able to produce (and let die) enough clones to overwhelm the condi remove of the guardians, the sheer amount of heals flying around would most likely be enough to ignore every condition besides confusion, which (at least for me) always gets cleansed first.

You dont really need more Mesmers than that, no… But you must admit, it would pure awesome to watch a 20 Mesmer vs 20 Guardian fight. I am actually very curious who would win, assuming equal skill. Sure the Guardians got heavy melee, condition removal, healing and CC potential, but on the other hand Mesmers could just blink away and lay down some iBerserker smackdown without even turning around. Perma stealth fields, complete buff and ranged combat denial, not to mention timewarps everywhere. Lets not even begin to discuss clone generation and cripples/voulnerabilities…

Sorry, but…no…guardians got a ton of condition removal. Shatter builds would die instantly from retaliation when even trying to bring on 1 shatter combo (yes, i got myself killed from 18k-0 just yesterday in 1 shatter combo from retal alone) and illusions are useless in a fight that big.

Mesmer is a solo/smallscale class by design, in bigger fights we get totally outclassed by about everything else (well…maybe, except rangers…thiefs have daggerstorm and near infinite blast finishers speaking for them).
