The one time I had frequent crashes is when my RAM was going bad. It could be a hardware issue. How long have you experienced this problem? What are your system specs?
Afaik the minimum amount of gems that can be bought is 10 dollars worth (800 gems).
Hey everyone. I was under the impression that only level 68 rares or above, when salvaged, give globs of ectoplasm. I hear that the 30 token rare level 30 armors from the AC collector give ectoplasm when salvaged. Can someone give insight to this, are there exceptions like this that exist other than dungeon armor?
EDIT:
Nevermind, I got my answer, the person misspoke and meant CoF instead of AC.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
When you’re playing the game, how much RAM does GW2 use? Since you only have 3.xxGB of RAM, GW2 might be running out of RAM to use, thus crashing.

Haswell is due out come the end of Q2. This should hopefully lower prices on older generation gear. Or if you have a burning ambition to have the latest stuff, get Haswell.
I would recommend a straight up rebuild if you want a new motherboard since the Q6660 is getting old in terms of a gaming machine.

Well if turning down the graphical settings without touching the resolution, it sounds like a CPU bottleneck. Running at 2.9Ghz, which is still a little slow, I can see it freezing for a second because of this.
You should try lowering the resolution just temporarily and see if the problem persists.
Yeah, he’s asking whether or not the percent increase is +30% or +50%. Iirc, you get all 50%.
I guess my question is, why isn’t this stickied somewhere. I didn’t realize this has been around for 3 weeks already. A+ dulfy, you sir are a hero!
1.)
The best armor is exotic rarity armor. Various methods of acquisition exist for gathering exotic armor. Among them are many you listed; karma vendors, WvW badges, crafting, random drops, dungeon sets, and many more I can’t think of at the moment.
There is no Legendary armor…yet
2.)
The trade post, but if you want to actually play GW2, then I would imagine dungeons are pretty profitable.
3.)
Pistol: Quip
Dagger: Incinerator
The cooking guide will only get you part way there as stated above. I hear it takes 7.XX out of the 8 professions to get to 80. I believe at the very start it was required to do all 8 to get to 80, but since Anet added recipes to the professions it does not take all 8 to achieve 80 anymore. Happy crafting!
Milwaukee area here on Fort Aspenwood!
Obviously the solution to one up other states is to make a guild with only Wisconsinites!
The bank, located in all major cities and can be accessed out in the world from random crafting stations. In LA its just east of the mystic forge.
Time Warp hands down, all the racial elites seem gimmicky and underpowered since Anet doesn’t want people to play a certain race for their skills, hence they rarely get used.
Depends, it could be the specs of your machines if they’re outdated. From the information given, anything could be the problem. Have you tried redownloading the client?

I run the 310.70 drivers. I saw no difference from the 306.97 version. I run a single GTX 560Ti 448 edition.
For the sake of doing Story Mode once is all the reason right now. The only Story Mode dungeons I remember are AC since it was in the BWEs and was amazing at the time, CM since it used to be farmed, and Arah since its part of the story.

Looks like you only have 3GB of RAM in your machine. You’re running out of RAM to play the game. If I were you I would upgrade to a 64-bit OS and buy some more RAM that is compatible with your machine. 32-bit OS can only support up to 4GB and even then it rarely allows the use of all 4GB. What processor are you using? Your graphics card is not the issue. You can try lowering the texture settings since my sibling’s computer can run GW2 with only 2GB of ram, but the textures are set lower.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
Yeah, the .exe is to boot up the game, and the .dat file is all the data for the game. The nice thing about GW is that you can move those files around without having to reinstall the game. Those are the only files needed to run the game.
Send us the log file that was created so we can take a gander at it. We love all the information that can be provided to us, no matter how insignificant it seems, it could play a huge role in a problem.
Actually the max run speed afaik is 50%. This is only for thieves traited in

One thing that jumps out to me from the information you gave is ‘1GB of DDR3 Graphics Card’. Afaik, most, if not all, lower end (media graphics) cards come with DDR3 RAM instead of GDDR5 RAM which is for medium to high end graphics cards. Which begs the question, what media graphics card are you looking at? Should be something alone the lines of GT 640.
If it is a media graphics card you’re looking at, then it won’t play GW2 very well. Depending on the card, lowest settings might be the best it could do, or if its a higher end media card, you might be able to pull medium settings out of it.
I recommend getting at least a GTX 650Ti to play GW2 at medium-high settings at 1920×1080 at 30+fps.
That’s plenty of RAM.
As long as that is a quality power supply, that would work, but if you’re looking to keep the computer for 5+ years, I would recommend bumping the wattage up some due to power supplies becoming more inefficient over time. Then, if you get a more powerful graphics card, I would definitely recommend getting at least a 550W power supply. If you plan on upgrading parts over the years, make sure you have enough extra wattage to cover those beefier parts. Also, if you plan on overclocking your processor/graphics card make sure to have enough extra power to do so.
Everything else looks alright. With your processor, WvW and a crowded LA might give you some grief with a lower frame rate than you want. However, everywhere else in the game you should be fine.
They got ‘lucky’ when opening a Black Lion Chest, or bought them from the gem store.

Negative, the 610M is slightly better than minimum spec (Intel’s HD 3000).

Nope, you can go crazy on how many times you download the game. Your account is tied to your serial key you provided, the game client isn’t tied to anything.
Free transfers are open to everyone all the time on a one week cooldown timer. Meaning, if you change servers today Dec 26th, you can’t change servers again until Jan 2nd. Free transfers are ending eventually, but no one knows when yet. The cost will depend on the server’s population that you’re transferring to.
As long as you overclock your CPU to 4.5Ghz+ then you’ll get those desired frames in WvW battles. As for a graphics card, you can roll with a variety of cards and get the results you want. If you want to go big or go home:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133452
or you can get something a little more tame and still get the frames you want with a (best to worst) GTX 580, GTX 660Ti, GTX 570, GTX 560Ti 448 edition, and all the Radeon equivalents. You might be able to even get it with a GTX 560Ti or a GTX 660 and their Radeon equivalents.
RAM isn’t the only thing that could be limiting your game performance. Do you happen to know what your CPU/GPU are? Or if you could give your laptop make/model that would help as well. Also, when you say slow, does that mean slow load times or just low FPS?
You might see some improvement, but I don’t think it’d be 70 bucks worth of improvement.
The 310M isn’t exactly a new GPU, so I’m sure that is hindering your system a lot.
The 740QM is better than your i3, but its still first gen i3/i5/i7 and has faded out whereas sandy bridge and ivy bridge are still out and about. That and it’s only giving you about a half a Ghz improvement over your i3 with a couple extra cores.
If you do upgrade your CPU I can’t say how much it would help, but if it does, I can’t see a half a Ghz helping a tremendous amount, especially since GW2 loves fast single thread CPU’s (high Ghz, like 3.5Ghz+), especially in WvWvW.
You shouldn’t have to re-verify on the re-install of the game. You should be able to move the GW2.exe over to the desired directory of the new home for the game.
That is copy GW2.exe…
From:
HDD:\Program Files\GW2\GW2.exe
To:
SSD:\Program Files\GW2\GW2.exe
Launch that sucker once its on the SSD and redownload the game. Or you can just copy the entire game over from your HDD to your SSD. I did this when I got an SSD just for gaming.
So copy…
HDD:\Program Files\GW2\
to:
SSD:\Program Files\GW2\
You might have to make a new shortcut for your desktop and everything, but it will work in the end. Copying the files is much faster (unless you have a ridiculous internet connection of the 100Mbit sort)

No problem. I should also point out that the benchmarks above were done in PvE, not in WvW where people’s systems really start to choke. So if you’re interested in decent performance in WvW, get something that gives a little more horsepower.

Yes and no. It depends on your definition of smooth fps. I consider smooth 30+ in which case at 1920×1080, yeah the GTX 660 would work. I run around with a GTX 560Ti 448 edition overclocked slightly to 822Mhz with a i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz and get a ‘smooth’ FPS. I’m not sure how well a stock i7 920 will fare out though. GW2 is a very CPU intense game and requires fast single thread performance. At stock clocks it might be your CPU hindering your gaming experience rather than your GPU.
I can try and mimic a i7 920 later tonight by underclocking my rig down to stock i7 920 levels and see how my system performs with my GTX 560Ti-448 and can let you know how it goes when running around crowded zone (LA) and an abandoned zone (Gendarran Fields).
Just out of curiosity, what GPU do you have right now since its not listed in the specs you gave.
Also, 6GB of RAM is enough.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
Thanks for that, I saw the topic earlier today and was curious as to what the answer was. My dreams of a thief constantly dodging are out the window now…
Totally forgot to link this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/guild-wars-2-performance-benchmark,3268-6.html It’s a benchmark of a bunch of graphics cards when playing GW2. It’s a useful reference when looking at what you want to buy. Tom’s Hardware even did the multiple presets at different resolutions. I’d take a gander at this before deciding which card/performance you’d like.
I still stand next to my GTX 650Ti that I recommended, but as you can see, even the mediocre 500 series cards play the game at decent FPS at the resolution you mentioned.
Another note, I’m not sure if you’re forced to play at such a low resolution because your monitor can’t go any higher or if you choose to play that low since your GPU/CPU are a little outdated, but if you are to increase the resolution you will be asking more from your system. Basically what I’m trying to say is don’t cheap out now on a GTX 550Ti because it plays good at 1280×768 because if/when you upgrade and start playing at 1920×1080 or higher the graphics card will really start to show its mediocreness.
I forgot to mention, I play on 1920×1080, but my siblings only play on 1600×900.

(sarcasm) You could play the game outside in the snow
In reality though, I would take some compressed air and go to town on the internals of your laptop/PC and make sure dust isn’t the cause of your overheating issue. I find that dusting out my rigs every half a year keeps my temperatures down within a reasonable level (basically to prevent overheating and theoretically prolong the life of the machine). Look at it as car maintenance except for your computer(s).
cringes Alright, since DDR2 RAM, from what I’ve seen, is extremely expensive compared to DDR3, I would avoid upgrading RAM. Another reason to avoid upgrading RAM right now, is that if you were to upgrade everything, the RAM would not transfer over.
If I were you, I would purchase a mediocre graphics card if you aren’t looking to play at amazing frames and highest settings. I know you said 80 bucks is your limit, but personally I wouldn’t get anything under a GTX 650Ti. I recently (in the past month) purchased one for 110 bucks for a sibling’s build and it was much better than the 9800GT that they had that was a hand-me-down from me.
If you’re willing to go the extra mile and wait for a deal, the GTX 650Ti/AMD equivalent won’t disappoint. With that said, you’d probably be fine with a normal GTX 650 or GTX 550Ti or their AMD equivalents.
Realize this though, your CPU would be what is bottlenecking your performance if you upgrade your graphics card. To fix that you’d prolly have to do a full rebuild (new mobo/CPU/RAM). If/When you do this, you’d already have the nicer graphics card to port over, which is why I recommend going the GPU route rather than RAM/CPU/ect.
Over Christmas break I was able to see the performance increase in my sibling’s rig which is a E6320 C2D @ 2.4Ghz and a GTX 650Ti (was a 9800GT) and the game went from unplayable on lowest settings (5 FPS) to playable 15-25 FPS in LA and 30+ in Gendarran Fields on medium-high settings. It went from the graphics card being the bottleneck to the CPU being the bottleneck.
If you look at my post history, I ranted about how I tested the graphics card in my system before gifting it to check performance. I got better results in my rig because I run a i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz which is less of a CPU bottleneck than the E6320 @ 2.4 Ghz.

I looked at the specifications I could find on: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/K52JC/#specifications
I seriously hope you have one of the i5 versions because that would probably be the only processors that could play GW2 decently. GW2 requires a fast single thread performance processor (higher frequency, the better off you are). It also helps if you’re on an architecture from the previous 2 years (sandy bridge [2nd gen core i3/i5/i7 series]/ivy bridge [3rd gen core i3/i5/i7 series]) but the laptop you run has a first gen core i3/i5 series.
I run a first gen core i7 930 overclocked to 4.1GHz at the moment. It doesn’t play the game perfectly, but it plays the game decently. However, you can’t achieve this frequency in any of the listed processors your laptop could have in it.
In addition to that, the 310M isn’t exactly one of the latest mobile graphics modules either, so this would be hindering you from playing on high settings like you do in WoW (a really old game) and rift (closing in on 2 years old).
The latest driver for your graphics card: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/54629
That’s why the game auto detects to low settings and runs terrible.

I saw in the patch notes on the wiki stating that the requirement was changed to only have one dolyak survive. Then, in wiki’s notes about the patch it said this change didn’t go into effect. Now that wiki note is gone, so can anyone confirm the achievement is now for saving at least one dolyak instead of all five?
Same thing happened to me, no daily rewards on the first run of the day and the second yielded 3 presents.
Same thing happened to me…I thought it was a one-time glitch I encountered but I guess other people are having the same problem.
Like you, I do the daily run to get the nice chest drops, I didn’t get anything from the chest the first time that day and went to go do it again, I got 3 presents just like you did.
71% MF isn’t a lot. All magic find does is increase the chances of getting nicer things. The wiki page will explain it better than I can:

Perhaps its because you don’t have enough RAM in your system and the PageFile is being constantly accessed. How much RAM is in your system?
Or that ^ . I kinda forgot you could bind two keys to one function (its been a while since I’ve opened the keybind options window).
Yeah…I would want some sort of thing to report people with for leeching as well. I just feel like it’d be over used and the reports generated would just be ignored by arenanet in the end due to the massive amount of reports of people leeching, not just in Toypocalypse, but in other grouped instances as well. I can also see a person using it to report people who aren’t necessarily playing up to the skill level that person thinks they should be playing up to, thus generating even more of a flood of reports arenanet would have to look at.
I don’t think a reporting function would be best here, perhaps there is another avenue to pursue that would be more effective. Like the timer to boot people off should be lessened in some instances.
I have a Razer Naga and I do not reassign my keys to the numpad. I just reassign F1-F4 to easier keys to press around WASD while keeping 1-0 as the default controls.
I do like the idea of saving custom button layouts, I can’t really see a reason besides having someone else use my computer which is next to 0% of the time. If the idea is on arenanet’s to-do list, they have more important quality of life things to add/fix before this IMO.

I’m pretty sure it adds, so you’d get +30% stun duration. This is a hot topic of 1H weapons versus 2H weapons and whether or not its balanced.
Answer made short:
Yes and no. I don’t think they should necessarily be buffed, perhaps changed would be a better word. Whether that means a change in numbers (nerf or buff) or a change in words (change in functionality).
As nice as it would be not having two different skills, one for PvE and one for PvP, the two modes are radically different in the way the two modes are played.
Dodging does not help prevent agony once it’s applied to your person.
Protection does not help against the damage taken from agony.
Just to comment about the +40% gold from monsters:
In AC some of the gold tier mobs drop 5s (augmented to 7s) and the final boss drops 15s (augmented to 21 silver). In a good group, you can do all three paths in an hour which grants you an additional 24s over all 3 runs for 2 bars. Unless the bars cost more than 12s each, then its profitable in AC.
I can’t comment on their use outside of AC, but I can imagine it’s not nearly as nice as doing AC runs.
