Chloe (Version 3):

Building a computer is really simple if you do a little research and/or watch some movies on youtube. I learned by simply using google and read everything I came across. This gave me enough knowledge of all the necessary components (CPU/RAM/Motherboard/Hard Drive). Once I was confident I knew what parts I needed I went and researched what was the best for my money. It cost me a pretty penny since I didn’t do enough research, but it was a solid computer with a P4 before dual-core processors were out and about.
Are you shooting to have that FPS in WvW? If so, your build will not fit inside that budget.
I used to buy whatever power supply was the cheapest and it was always the problem component of my computer. In my latest build I got myself a nice 750W (TX Series) from Corsair (came with its own bag and everything, it was awesome). Its lasted me over 3.5 years now and has led me to buying more corsair products, like the H50 I have cooling my CPU. If not Corsair, then Seasonic has some nice power supplies from what I hear as well. I would recommend a 550W, especially if you upgrade your GPU again or you get a new CPU/RAM/motherboard. 550W leaves enough room for future parts and some age degradation loss from the power supply.
Being in a ‘high-end’ list doesn’t mean anything. I understand wanting to support a friend, but that card isn’t meant for gaming. The 250 is a media card.

If you haven’t blown the dust out of your laptop, I recommend doing so.
The game doesn’t happen to be on this ‘new bigger faster hard drive’ is it? If it is, try tossing the game back onto the hard drive you were playing on from beta and disconnect this new drive. Maybe it has something to do with this new drive that is interfering with something.
What would help you the most is a new everything. However, since you are on a tight budget (not sure how much). I would have to say either save up and buy a whole new computer, or buy a graphics card since a graphics card can be easily ported over to another computer in the future.
Upgrading your CPU/motherboard/RAM is going to cost more than a graphics card.
They have to do with your hard drive or SSD. Your internet speed doesn’t factor into the equation of load times. You can monitor the network activity while playing the game and there really isn’t too much going on when you’re playing the game.
I’m not sure what a 50 player battle would result in on these processors. As I own none of them, I’m speaking from other people’s experiences on the forums that I have read about.
Another thing I forgot to ask is if you are able to salvage parts from your current PC (if there is one), stuff like hard drives, CD/DVD ROM drives (if you desire to have these optional devices), a case, a power supply, and peripherals (mouse/keyboard/monitor).
I saw another post very similar to this and I’ll ask you the same question. Do you want 80 FPS in all of GW2 or 80 FPS during everything EXCEPT WvW battles and large Dynamic Events?
If you want 80 FPS everywhere, there is no hardware that can produce that result.
If you don’t mind getting 30 FPS in large WvW battles and large Dynamic Events, then I would recommend any of the following processors:
AMD’s FX 8350 (worst high end processor netting you 25-30 FPS in 100+ man WvW battles)
Intel’s i5 3570K
Intel’s i7 3770K
Intel’s i7 3930K (best high end processor netting 30+ FPS in 100+ man WvW battles)
every processor listed above requires an overclock to achieve the listed FPS (to about 4.5Ghz). If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, then expect sub 30 FPS in large 100+ man WvW battles. If all you do is game on this rig, especially games with outdated engines like GW2 and skyrim, the 3570K is the choice of processor. If you’re going to FRAPS and do video/audio encoding, the FX 8350/3770K/3930K are more up your alley.
then for a graphics card:
AMD’s 7870 XT (best graphics card for your money, it will play GW2 at max settings on 1080p with 60 FPS on normal play)
Alternatively, you can wait until early June for Intel to release Haswell, and get the new processors which average (and estimated) to be about 5-15 percent faster than Ivy Bridge (i5 3570K/i7 3770K).

It almost sounds like skill lag, which is on their side somewhere. The game doesn’t freeze for me, it just takes forever to cast skills and you start rubberbanding slightly. This only happens to me when in WvW battles of around 50+ people. If the game is truly freezing up on your end (can’t move or do anything), then I bet its something with your setup. However, if its just taking forever to cast skills, then its probably network lag on their end, whether its terrible netcode or stressing their servers too much.
I would try posting in the Mac subforum as well. I’m not sure what to say other than check your graphics drivers to make sure that they are up to date.

Do you have another hard drive to install the game to? The reason I ask is because the error you posted was an error that said the game couldn’t read something in memory. Sometimes this leads to a defunct hard drive or RAM. You can also test your RAM with memtest:

Yeah, even if she did get it to install from the disk, there are huge patches she would have to download.
Assuming she has already created her account:
https://account.guildwars2.com/login?redirect_uri=/account
There should be a download client button on the left side of the page. Then, hit the download X client where X is Windows if she has Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Mac if she runs a Mac.
Yeah, that was a lower end car for its series and that series (as awesome as it was) is really old now. I wouldn’t expect anything more than Ok I Did It said.

This is because the game is heavily CPU bound. It doesn’t take a great graphics setup to run GW2 at max, but it take one kitten of a CPU.
I don’t think its a needed file and I would delete it if it takes up less than a couple MB of space.
My real concern is, why do you have the data files on your desktop?

Currently I have it set to show the highest amount of people at the lowest detail possible. I still see my graphics card dip down to 20% usage and get sub 30 FPS, makes me cringe every time.
Well we didn’t say that. The technology is out there, you would just have to liquid nitrogen the CPU so that it could run at 6Ghz. However, its not proven that will work, its just a guess since no one has done it yet as far as I know.
I play much more than spend time on the forums.
I could reproduce that bug all the time in GW1, can’t say I’ve done it yet in GW2.
I play a main Thief and most of the time while in combat for dungeons and what not, I’m spamming the init skills for spike damage. Mainly skills like dagger 2 and pistol 2.

Yeah, it was bad in T2 Kain BL last night as well. There were 2 huge zergs fighting over the right keep and any utility skills I tried to use to stealth (Thief) to save my life, ended up going off a multitude of seconds later. However, it seems everyone has this issue, because of this I didn’t die because no one else could use skills to kill me.
Thanks ArenaNet, WvW was great on paper, not so much in practice.
I’m going to assume you haven’t tried anything yet, so we’ll start with drivers. Latest drivers are found here:

@Malediktus
I have to say I’m a little flabberghasted how you are achieving an out of memory error on a 64-bit operating system and 8GB of RAM. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your RAM usage when inside the game AND when the game is closed BUT everything else you normally have is open (such as browsers, steam, downloading porn [its a joke please don’t take me seriously], etc, etc).
@XpKiller
I seriously hope you killed XP, 7 is the dominant operating system here. kittenty jokes aside, you are running into not being able to access something in memory. My guess is that something is corrupted (either your RAM or the game or the hard drive). I would start with the game, try doing a -repair to the client. Searching the entire Tech Support subforums should come up with the instructions if you look. People talk about it quite a bit.

Graphics drivers…getting a new card is nice, but hardware without drivers is like a rock in the sun…useless.
In other words, make sure you’re running the latest Nvidia drivers found here:

I’m making the assumption you are running Windows 7 64bit.

It might help if you post in the Mac subforums as well.
I’m not familiar with Macs, but how do your graphics drivers look? Might be needing to update them to a latest version.

If you read another article, it mentions that the attacks started around March 18th.
Threads started before then…like I said I agree with you that it might have impacted some of the more recent issues with latency, but this problem has existed since way before that.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/wvw-skill-lag
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/LAG-in-event
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Unplayabele-Lag-105ms-instead-of-15-o
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/massive-lag-make-world-events-unplayable
and there are many more 17+ pages back.
A few things, there is a Mac sub-forum.
You’re experiencing normal behavior. The game is terribly optimized, you can try tossing down the shadows and reflections a level and see if that helps.
I experience the same thing as you (as well as many others who have better systems than myself), but even the i7 extremes simply can’t play this game well. If you can overclock, I would recommend doing that and ramping your clock speed to about 4.5 Ghz.
Other thread about this:

Wrong sub-forum buddy points towards the bugs sub-forum.
if you could teleport to work, the store, the bar, out to eat, visit family around the country, anytime you wanted, for less than the cost of a gallon of gas per use, would you honestly still use a car for anything, ever?
If you owned a Ferrari (or any exotic supercar) would it change your mind?
Nope, I’m economical. I’m pretty sure the horse here is beyond beaten. What we really need a suggestion for is something worse than beating a dead horse.
I vote no, unless we add more hours to the DAY, its a daily and should be on a 24 hour cycle. I too forget to be part of my daily before it resets, granted I’ve never been that close as one salvage with to which I say, click faster. I get angry at myself, and move on to do whatever other things I wanted to do whether it was the next set of dailies or going to play another game.
I do like the idea of rollover dailies/monthlies.
Hahaha, don’t forget the lightning bolt over the LED meant it was background downloading stuff.
League of Legends has this where the FPS is up in a corner along with the ping to the servers. I would love to have this information available to me in the extreme rare case that I had legit latency issues.
However, with the way the current game runs, I would be interested to see my pings in WvW with all the skill activation latency and what not.

Yeah, GW2 is a 32-bit application which can be run in a 64-bit operating system.
Well, since it was this new game that might have caused the error, have you uninstalled said game and redownloaded whatever graphics drivers you had before?

Like I said in another post, I don’t think it has anything to do with latency. But more to do with packet loss across hops.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2013/03/27/the-biggest-cyber-attack-ever-is-slowing-down-the-internet/Quote “One thing that does slightly worry me though. I’ve been having problems with the speed of my connection for the past few days now.”
Now this could also be affecting Anets DC/ISP aswell as our own ISPs.
If only this attack were happening for a really long time, but it hasn’t. People have been experiencing this issue before that whole deboggle started. I can’t disagree with recent latency issues though, I was having some issues yesterday while at work. However, that can probably be blamed on the kitten network infrastructure in place.
Oh they know it is a problem but they refuse to acknowledge it.
The client is overly CPU bound that uses 3 heavy threads.
Mandatory overclocking of a CPU to play this game is beyond ridiculous.
I wonder how many people have fried their CPUs from overclocking just to play this game at a reasonable level?
Since my previous post got deleted for no apparent reason(EA you modding this?) I will reiterate the statement.
There will never be a fix for this. Ever.
It would require them to rewrite the engine code to utilize more threads and do it in an optimal fashion.
Since this would require a lot of time and resources there will never be a fix.
The only way to get the game to play WvW and PVE events at a good rate is to wait for hardware to overcome the limitations of the antiquated engine.Lets see if this one gets deleted as well for “honesty”
I would say, “Never say never”…but month after month I just wonder what happened to all that data from the beta events where FPS took a kitten during the final event of the betas.
If they expect hardware to catch up, they better look at the trends. AMD with more cores and Intel with energy efficiency. Granted you will have your incremental performance updates, you won’t get huge leaps and bounds like we used to back in the day.
I keep waiting for an announcement for GW3…they stopped GW1 because their engine didn’t allow them to do what they wanted. I feel like history is repeating itself only this time the engine isn’t allowing us to do what we want.

Why not experiment with the settings yourself? Just hop into the middle of LA, look at everyone, and start changing things to get YOUR desired FPS.
I have GTX660 which is 1,5 or 2 gigs of memory and I have out of memory crash every hour. ATM im running repair hope it works. ( I had everything set on low) My OS is 32bit with 4 gigs so its <3.25
The out of memory error deals with system memory, not the memory available on your graphics card. It is recommended to get yourself a copy of Win7 64-bit since you have 8GB of RAM but can only utilize less than 4GB of it.
That is similar to SolarNova’s build and I think he/she claims to get 30-35 FPS in the worst case dynamic events and WvW battles.
So lets get some more detail. Do your skills and chat delay all the time or only sometimes? What times and which maps have you experienced this in, were you in the middle of a large WvW or dynamic event when this happened?
If its any consolation, I tossed a normal versatile infusion on my amulet until ArenaNet says something on the matter. I’m with you though, 30+ laurels saved up, I suppose its about time for another amulet for an alt.
Technically speaking, the minimum requirements to run the game for AMD is an Athlon 64 X2, and the lowest frequency I could find is 1.9 Ghz. Since its under that spec frequency-wise, it might not work, but I have experienced an intel dual-core running @ 1.86 Ghz playing the game (which is under the minimum requirements).
Your processor is a few years newer though, and a different architecture, so the 100Mhz difference is probably alright.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
If its not a reported know bug, it should be. There are a lot of people that experience this, one of them being me. If you check your GPU usage during the low FPS camera movement, the GPU should be much lower than your normal percent usage. This is because your CPU can’t feed information fast enough to the GPU to process to display more frames.
Just a side note, the Tech Support forums might be another solid place to ask.
Other than that, contrast ratios are kinda important. They’re hard to compare brand Y vs brand X though because of the different tests and standards different companies use.
Server side lag, its a known issue in more crowded areas of the game. It happens in WvW zergs all the time.
The file you’re looking for is the one at the location below. If you search your computer for gw2.dat you can find its exact location. The location below is just the default location of the game. Guild Wars 2 has always been around 15.5GB because it replaces files rather than becoming a huge bloated game.
D:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\gw2.dat
Do you have a desired FPS to have in WvW or other crowded areas of the game? The graphics card can most likely run on medium, but the FPS you will get will vary.
I have no idea what the problem is besides maybe it not liking the map your main is currently in. I would swap to guesting on another server temporarily and trying to get on your main in another server.
That’s because he rejected the new terms of service in order to play the game. Are you asking how he can get the prompt back up to instead hit, “I accept”? I have no idea how to do take-backsies with ArenaNet.

Disable character models in WvW in the graphics options menu. Turn culling on max, also located in this options menu. These are new options that were included with today’s patch.
None exist if you want 80fps in all of GW2. With today’s patch it might ease up on the WvW side of degraded performance, but large scale dynamic events in PvE will still be hit by fps drops down to most likely the mid 40’s. I haven’t tested the new build yet.
